Chose this cruise because it was departing from Charleston, SC and going to San Juan. The food selections and quality was amazing. The entertainment especially Zack Daniels in the piano bar was great fun every night but Thursday. Thursday is his drinking night and he was not performing. The shows in the Liquid Lounge where really good. The Acoustic Jams with the young couple Unity entertained us almost every night. They sang a variety of songs and he whistles well while she plays the drum. Ketut and Joyce took good care of our rooms and the Omelet Station on the Lido deck in the Havana Bar was my favorite breakfast most mornings. I would recommend this ship to the 50 and older travelers. They made up 90% of the cruisers onboard. If you require a wheelchair to get on and off the ship this port and this ship does it better than any of the more than 14 ships of 6 different cruise lines I have traveled on. I can't wait for our next cruise on this ship in January 2020. Read Less

I've cruised quite a few times on both Carnival and other cruise lines. This was the best cruise I have had. The food and service were extraordinary. From the time we entered the ship Carnival lived up to their claim of FUN cruise. The atmosphere was great. When we reached our cabin our Steward Eman took care of our every want and need. He told us he has been on board for 12 years. His experience surely shows. Emma, our cruise director was the most active person I have ever been around. She was go, go, go from early morning until late at night. She would not let you not in enjoy yourself. The entertainment was very good but Music and Magic Duo was incredible. He was a fabulous keyboard player and vocalist and she was absolutely great. Her covers of Whitney Houston and Adele songs were super. The food was wonderful no matter where we ate was top notch. We will be cruising again in the not too distant future. It will be on a Carnival ship and quite possibly the Sunshine again. Read Less

The Carnival Sunshine was a very pleasant surprise to a jaded cruiser like myself. I have cruised Carnival before and have been very disappointed, but the Sunshine has inspired me to give the line a closer look! The public spaces, the dining options, the overall cleanliness of the ship, and professional, friendly and courteous attitude of staff and crew added up to a very pleasant trip! The ship itself is laid out very well. For a small ship, it never felt crowded, but did offer a variety of public venues for every taste. You could party or relax as you wished. Our group made an excellent purchase of Faster To The Fun, which made boarding and disembarking a breeze, bypassing much longer lines. We had priority access to many features on the ship, including shorter lines for customer services. Well worth the price, I highly recommend this to any potential cruisers on Carnival. Our cabin was available fairly quickly and with Faster To The Fun, our luggage was delivered before we got there! The room, a balcony on the seventh deck, was small, but clean and convenient. We even had a partial view of the bridge, which was fun. The bathroom, while small, was conveniently laid out so that even someone as big as I am did not feel cramped. We visited the spa on the first day, entering the drawing for spa certificates, of course. (One of our group even won a certificate!) During the tour, most of our group signed up to take advantage of the Thermal Suites in the spa, with dry and moist heat. The absolute favorite was the heated chaise lounges, great for relieving aches and pains, and so relaxing! There was a deal offered for access for the entire cruise, if you go, take advantage! The food variety was extensive, suiting every taste from Guy Fieri's Burger Joint to the specialty restaurants, including Italian, steakhouse, and Oriental choices. One of our group has severe food allergies and she was accommodated with ease. The staff was very helpful in navigating the selections available. I loved the Mongolian Wok lunch and the juicy burgers as Guy's Burger Joint. The main dining room selections often offered surprising choices, including escargot and frog's legs appetizers, as well as vegetarian and meat and potato entrees. My favorite entree was a vegetable lasagna, very tasty and gooey with cheese. I wander at night, so finding well-lit areas was a delight. I worked on my crafts, ate pizza at the 24-hour pizzeria, and talked to other early/late birds. I can't say enough good about this trip. The only truly serious complaint I had was the safety drill. One of our girls is handicapped and has trouble standing for long periods of time. The drill lasted for an hour! Unreasonable and a blemish on an otherwise delightful cruise. Carnival Sunshine, find a way to expedite your safety drill or accommodate those who cannot stand so long! Overall, I would tell everyone to enjoy a vacation aboard the Carnival Sunshine, I know I did! Read Less

This cruise was so much fun! We really wanted to go to Aruba. They say it hardly ever rains there and that's why there are so many aloe plants growing there. We rented an open-air bus to take us on a tour of the island. That was a mistake. There are so many people on the bus, that you cannot see the sights. Plus, it was so hot, that unless the bus was moving, we got no air. We prefer to rent a private van that is air conditioned. As it turned out, we liked Curacao better than Aruba. There, we rented an air conditioned van with a driver that took us to all the sights and even stopped to let us get a local drink and he took us to the post office to mail myself a postcard! My dad, being in a wheelchair, stayed in the van with the driver while we did a little shopping. Our driver, Javier, was so sweet that he got my dad out of the van and put him in his wheelchair and took him on a stroll through the town! We also had a stop in Grand Turk. The beach there is so calm and beautiful! The NASA exhibit is interesting. Visit Margaritaville while you're there! The food on the cruise was fabulous! We ate in the Sunrise Dining room every night and chose anytime dining, which is great because you don't have to be there at a certain time every night. They offer rare finds, which are things you wouldn't normally try, in addition to other choices. The chocolate melting cake is a must! We had 2 formal nights for dining on this 8-day cruise. Guys Burgers is a must for lunch every day! These burgers and fries are delicious! For breakfast, in addition to the huge buffet, we went to the Havana Bar for the absolute best omelets! They cook to order. We spent most of our sun time on the Serenity deck (adults only). Occasionally, people would allow their kids in the pools/hot tubs, which is a no-no. It's supposed to be for those 21 years old and older. Our cruise director, Donkey, was awesome! He really kept the fun going! Our cabin, as well as every inch of the ship was kept extremely clean. The staff was so attentive to whatever we needed. Overall, this was an awesome cruise and we plan to do it again! Read Less

We flew to Orlando from Texas and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express is Cocoa, FL. We flew in the night before and called the hotel to see what was the best way to get there. The hotel advised that we get a one-way car rental and then the return place would be at the port. We did this and a large SUV rental was $50. The morning of the cruise (around 11am) my husband dropped myself, another wife and our children off at the port with all of our baggage and then went and returned the car and they brought him by shuttle to the port. The entire process took 30 minutes. Once we were all in the terminal, it took about 30 minutes (we are Platinum) to be on board the ship. This was our second time to cruise on the Sunshine and immediately, I remembered why I love this ship. I love the fresh looking design and the 2.0 improvements. We dropped our stuff off at the room. I had brought on a case of bottled water and a 12-pack of Diet Dr Pepper that were a bit heavy to lug around. Once we did that, we were off to the Blue Iguana and Guy's to get either a burger and burrito. We stayed in a Grand Suite (7195) and it was very typical of the other Grand Suites that we have stayed in while on board a Carnival ship. The storage is just ridiculous. There are so many drawers and closets and plenty of room for all of our stuff and our twin 9 year olds belongings and then some. The couple we traveled with stayed in an Ocean Suite (7183) and its very comparable just smaller. Our room steward Jason was fantastic! We ate at the early dining and every night we were taken good care of by Cornelius and his two assistants. The menu was good and every night you are given an option to have selections from the steak house for an additional $20. We only took advantage of this one time and got a lobster tail. Our group loves to play games so we attended 80% of the trivia. We really enjoyed all of the entertainment staff - Jess, Sara, Darnel, and Jamie. The Disney trivia is an absolute must. My kids will remember that for many years to come. We enjoyed the EA trivia as well. This cruise is the first time that we had that on a ship and even though we were awful, we went every night and enjoyed it. The shows are just fantastic on the Sunshine. They get better and better as the week progresses. The first time we were on the ship, we would come about 20 minutes early and wait to enter the showroom and we always got great seats. This cruise, the couple that we came with are lifelong friends and he is a retired Navy vet and has had a leg amputated. One of the lighting techs (Chris Ping) talked with us and got permission to reserve a couch in the very back of the showroom so that he would not have to stand in line to wait because its very difficult for him to do so. Just before they would open the doors, we would go to our couch and we were served nightly drinks without even asking by the sweetest bar girl, Melanie. She knew our order and our Sign and Sail numbers by memory - that's service! I cannot say enough about the Epic Rock show. I actually wrote down the "set list" so that I can create a playlist on my iTunes account to listen to whenever I am in a rock mood. My 9 year olds (one boy and one girl) had a great time at Camp Carnival. Daniel would literally wake up and couldn't get out of the room quick enough to get up to Camp. We would see him again at 10 pm. They did attend one of the Night Owl parties though, they would have loved to go to all of them. We had told them about the Hasbro Game show from when we had been on the ship in the Mediterranean and they could not wait. Daniel was actually picked to go up on stage and ended up winning the whole show. He won a $150 gift card and now I have a house full of Nerf guns and extra Nerf bullets all over the living room. Thank you Carnival! We went to almost all of the Comedy Shows and we really enjoyed Happy and the comedian from New Orleans. Some tips for people traveling on the Sunshine is that during lunch, no matter where you want to eat, take your plate to the aft of Deck 9. We usually sat in between Jiji's and the Italian place. We always get the bottomless sodas stickers. This ship did not use the soda guns but instead can soda every time, which is a plus for us. My husband loves the Mongolian grill at lunch. The Italian is great at lunch too, they give you a piece of paper and you indicate what kind of pasta you want, the meat that you want and the veggies and sauce. They then will give you a pager and then you pick it up when it's ready. There is no standing in line. I cannot say enough about the burritos, I love them and typically eat a burrito every day at lunch. Our ports were Saint Martin, St Kitts, San Juan and Grand Turk. We did the French Beach Getaway in Saint Martin. It was just wonderful, beautiful beach and good lunch, We paid $10 for each child to use a ocean trampoline with slide the entire afternoon. In San Juan, we went to the Rain Forest. It was just beautiful. St Kitts, we just walked around the port area. Lastly Grand Turk, my husband and son went on the Helicopter ride and had a wonderful time. They got a video of the entire ride for $15. As always, the worst part of the trip is when the waiters sing "Your leaving our Funship" on the last day of the cruise. We got off the ship on Saturday morning, had luggage tags #1 and were in a car headed to Disney by 8:45am. Absolutely wonderful vacation! I have read many complaints over the years about this ship and I just cannot understand any of them. The only thing that seemed to be a drawback was for the people that chose "YourTime Dining." The first several days there was a long line for that. Every day we would walk past all of the people in line straight to our table and have a wonderful dinner with people that called us by name and knew our favorites. I have never understood why anyone would want to chose that and I continue to be puzzled. It doesn't make any sense to me. Read Less

First of all starting on customer service thank you david fernandez for excellent customer service. I cannot say anything negative about this cruise. Service in the dining room was excellent thanks to kristjan, iam and aiam. They were excellent servers going beyond there duty.the food exceeded all expectations for me and my family as well as accommodating any food changes for my picky eaters. My family and i really enjoyed the buffet and jiji's kitchen for lunch.especially jiji's since at lunch it's free and you can create your own noodles with sauce's my favorite being black bean and thai barbecue. The pool was small but the kids zone with the slides made up for it. At night there were plenty of excellent shows to watch that were good and the comedy show was hilarious. I have to say a big thank you to guest services for always willing to help with any problems and getting it done fast. Also we had inside cabins that were excellent with plenty of room as well as excellent room service especially with elena who was always willing to help. Last but not least for those who do like to drink and don't want to get the alcohol packages there were constant drink deals and the pricing on most drinks and wines were inexpensive especially at the casino which was fun. Just got off of this ship on my fiancé and I's cruise and we had an absolute amazing time on Carnival Sunshine! This is a pretty lengthy and in depth post, so if you don't like to read full reviews you might want to tl;dr this one. Carnival has packed all of the Fun Ship 2.0 enhancements on board this newly renovated ship and has really improved the ships decor from its old, glitzy Vegas themes to a more contemporary and cool feel. The ship's entire entertainment staff, Cloud 9 Spa staff, wait staff, steward staff, and guest services staff was absolutely fabulous. The cherry on top of it all was our Cruise Director, Butch Begovitch, who pretty much set the perfect fun atmosphere for the whole vacation. I highly recommend booking cruises while Butch is on board because he is the best cruise director that I've ever had the pleasure of sailing with on Carnival! These guys definitely know how to have fun and coordinate an amazing vacation! As far as the ships new places and spaces on board went, everything was pretty phenomenal, especially when compared with the other 4 Carnival Cruises that I've cruised on before this one (all of which were pre-2.0 upgraded ships). The food from Cucina del Capitano, JiJi's Asian Kitchen, Fahrenheit 555, Bonsai Sushi, Lido Marketplace, Guy's Burgers, The Blue Iguana Cantina, and the main dinning rooms were all absolutely delicious and flavorful! We only had one issue during a main dining time where a steak was undercooked and a little too fatty, but that was literally the only bump we had for food. The new Red Frog Rum Bar, Blue Iguana Tequila Bar, Alchemy Bar, EA Sports Bar, and Serenity deck bar were all great as well. What was nice here was that while the Serenity Bar and EA Sports Bar offered the typical cocktails and alcohol available in all other main places on the ship, all of the other venues offered a great variety of specialized cocktails and concoctions that you could only obtain at those specific bars. It was a great way to enhance the flavor and atmosphere of each location. (Psst! Hey, they make some MEAN cocktails over at the Alchemy Bar. STRONGLY recommended!) Oh! And don't pass up Java City if you like to get your coffee and latte fix. Java City also offers quite a few spiked coffees and shakes for those of you that like a little extra fun in your drink! The new Ocean Plaza is a great location to catch karaoke performances, trivia games, and live music on the daily. Carnival really opened this area up on deck 5, past the gorgeous casino, so that it's more fun and inviting for guests. Also, the new Waterworks and Serenity Decks? They are probably the best in the fleet. They are huge and absolutely amazing. The slides are a blast! Here is where my only two negatives about the ship come in. The new Liquid Lounge is WAY too small for the increased amount of passengers that this ship carries. While the new 2 story lounge has totally revolutionized the ability for Carnival to actually have a functioning adult dance club (the Liquid Night Club that was opened every night was pretty boss and featured amazing mixes from Carnivals new DJ's) the ability for it to successfully serve as an appropriately sized show lounge fell short. The 2.0 Playlist Production shows were amazing and obviously, everyone wanted to get a seat to see them, but the size of the lounge coupled with the large families that would hoard seats all over the lounge lead to major seating issues. There was one instance where I had to sit behind a support pole structure (infamously found in Carnival's showrooms) and I literally missed half of the action on stage during Epic Rock (this is arguably the most amazing show that Carnival has produced to date on its 2.0 ships). Adding more cabins, eliminating a floor of seating in the lounge, and not being able to find a structural compromise for those support structures = a pretty miserable experience unless you get there 45 minutes before the shows start... Lastly, the newly restructured aft lounge, now called the Limelight Lounge, faced similar issues. While they've pulled out all of the new and modern stops to feature all of the hilarious comedians that come on board, there simply wasn't enough space in the lounge to accommodate everyone that would've liked to enjoy the shows. Even though there were 5 different show times for each comedian, there were always people standing on the outskirts of this downsized lounge. Again, the addition of even more cabins on deck 4 aft eliminated the public space that would've been required to make this an appropriate venue. All in all, this ship is pretty fantastic. Just make sure to plan accordingly for all of the major shows because you REALLY wouldn't want to miss any of the Playlist Productions. And the comedians are too hilarious to pass up, so make sure you get to the Limelight Lounge early too. This ship will be missed dearly in the port of New Orleans for sure! Read Less
