Not the best cruise we've been on, but good value for the $$

This was our first cruise on Carnival. We'd heard a lot of horror stories about the line, but were intrigued by the price difference. The old addage, "you get what you pay for," held true, but as long as you adjust your expectations, you it was a good value for the money. We arrived in San Diego at about 1:30 for a 4:00 sailing. It took us about an hour and a half to get on board. We had to ...

Ages 43 and 51. Like traveling independently in port. 13th cruise, 2nd Carnival. We have sailed a number of different lines. Embarkation was terrible. 2.5 hours. Not sure if this has more to do with the port or Carnival. Probably a little of both. This was our first balcony cabin and we really took advantage of it. We had a pot of coffee delivered every morning. This is a good ship to score a ...

Intro - My girlfriend and I were feeling the need for a vacation back at Christmas time. Got on good old Travelocity and saw a decent deal for the Feb 4 sailing to Mexico on the Spirit. Carnival is the only line I've ever been on and I've done her sister ship, The Pride, a couple of times. I really do like the layout of the ship compared to others I've been on. So we bided our time and ...

We have been on the Spirit before. It has always been mediocre, but traveled where and when our lives permitted. The ship just returned from a two week drydock and it showed. The gym has been totally reconfigured and outfitted with state of the art Life Fitness equipment. There is a new 21 and over pool and sun area that is just wonderful. Quiet (means no kids) and pretty at the back of the ship. ...

So we usually do a cruise. This time to keep it simple we did The Mexican Riviera ~ again. This cruise was the fourth time for the "Riviera". First time for Carnival. The Cabin and balcony were great.Lots of storage and space under the beds for our suitcases, bath adequate with a "seashell" full of freebies ~ toothpaste, "Snore Strips" disposable razor, Cabin Steward Rahan kept it all perfect ...

Carnival Spirit, 5 nights, Feb. 12-17, 2012 sailed from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas. A friend and I shared a super cheap cabin category 1A, inside. Cabin 1255 is the same size and shape as more expensive interior cabins. As this was just a quick cruise, the cabin was fine though I always prefer a balcony. The cabin location worked out well, we had quick access to the elevator aft, and also to ...

First time solo cruising

Before embarking on my first solo cruise, I had read some negative things about the Carnival Spirit, including embarkation issues, so I was pleasantly surprised that conditions had dramatically improved since the Hawaii/Ensenado/San Diego cruise. I took the short cab ride from the San Diego airport to the ship and was aboard 1/2 hour later. Quickest embarkation I ever experienced. Of course, I ...

No spirit on the Spirit

We have been on the Spirit for 3 or 4 times. In July 2012 we cruised to Alaska and the Spirit was as wonderful as ever. However we just returned from the Mexican Riviera on the Spirit again and what a difference. We were traveling with 5 other couples, all past cruisers and all of us had similar complaints about dinner. The menu had been cut back drastically with fewer items to select from. ...

Embarkation (1/1/11) We drove to the ship from Las Vegas and stayed at the San Pedro Doubletree. They let you park for the week as part of a room package and deliver you in their van to and from the pier. Tip the driver, who works very hard at getting you close to the curbside porters. My only complaint was that the porters seemed overwhelmed and you do not get a claim check for your ...

Spirit to Cabo

I went with a family of seven on a cruise to Cabo in January. The Carnival Spirit was a nice ship but we were a little disappointed with the overall experience. It all started a week before the cruise. Carnival called us and asked if we would like to upgrade to 3 balcony rooms with interconnecting doors on the back of the ship and on the main deck that was near all the activities. We decided to ...
