I was invited to join a birthday group traveling to the Bahamas. We cruised on the Carnival Sensation. The staff was quite friendly, I must say! Our steward was very outgoing (the three times we saw him), our dining room service team of Alex, Soe, and Karla was magnificent, and the cruise director Deon kept the party going! Those were the very best parts. The cruise ship is kept pretty clean. I could not rave about our housekeeping team or our steward, who was never available by the direct line that he offered to us on the 1st day. Bathroom was not kept clean or stocked until day 2/3 or so, which was disappointing. Regarding the food...the reviews on this site are accurate in that the buffet, IMO, is terrible. I chose to stick with Guy's Burger Joint (surprisingly delicious), the Blue Iguana (tasty taco bar), and the Main Dining Room fare. I really wish that there were other dining options; I got pretty tired of having burgers and tacos almost every day for lunch. The main dining room was the best bet (brunch/dinner only). The portions are tiny, considering the limitless dining offering (you can enjoy as many dishes as you'd like--the entire menu can be had for dinner). We chose open dining, too, which was a nice flexible option. We also enjoyed the Cheers alcohol package, which I HIGHLY recommend. The bartenders are pretty slow-moving, and not super friendly, unlike the rest of staff...however, the package pays for itself in 5 drinks or so throughout the course of the day. The cruise ship director Deon made a BIG impact on this trip. He livened up every night (and day) with his beautiful singing voice, great sense of humor, and vivacious personality. My sister is booking another trip solely because of him, so...there you have it! The nightly entertainment, games, and shows were available almost everywhere, so there truly is ALWAYS something to do. There are also quiter activities like board games in the library, yoga/morning stretch, gym time, and more. The ports-of-call were delightful. Princess Cays was beyond beautiful. Nassau was more authentic, but I found it to be a lot less clean than expected. The straw market was full of repeated stalls, but I was able to get great, "handmade" gifts well within my budget. I also especially enjoyed a vendor in the promenade near the Tortuga store (where I also tasted some great rum and cake, and the ladies were so friendly). I would have liked to have traveled off the main thruway, but was nervous about going it alone. I also voided the jeweler's row that we were encouraged by the cruiseline sales team to visit; it was not for me. Overall: a nice and relaxing trip with the girls. You could not beat the options for "fun," for which Carnival is known. There are activities abound and a lively spirit brought about by the Cruise director and friendly staff. The affordability, as well, probably can not be beat. I would like to try cruising again, perhaps on another line or a nicer ship (the Sensation is outdated, apparently), as I would love to have more dining options. I looked forward to eating well on this trip, and was a little disappointed. I enjoyed my vacation nonetheless. Read Less

Went on this trip with my family and a travel group. My second time traveling with this group and had a lovely time. We left from Miami to Princess Cay Island which was lovely. This island is privately owned by cruise company and the you can use your room key to purchase here. Also Carnival provided lunch on the island. Next stop was Nassau, Bahamas we did a guided tour this time 20.00 per person which I could hear others saying different prices which varying from 20.00 to 30.00 pp. The guided tour was cool I got see a little more of the island. Food on this cruise was okay. Breakfast we ate at the omelet bar which was delicious with your your choice of fresh vegetables, cheese, bacon or ham. They also had a all you can eat side with pancakes, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, hash browns, baked beans, bacon, sausage and breakfast burritos. There is also a area that offers brunch where they bring the food to you. Lunch they had typical burger joint which I stuck with. They had a salad bar and a taco bar. Drinks we got the free stuff (I learned from my first trip I do not drink enough soda to even bother with the plan) orange juice, lemonade, cranberry juice and water. Side note: bring a travel cup so you do not have to make a bunch of trips to the ice machine. We often are dinner in the assigned fine dining Restaurant. On the last night we went in the casual dining Restaurant and I was not too happy with it dried out pasta with vegetables that I had to mix with another dish to give some life back to the dish. Wait staff was SUPER AWESOME my 6 yr old niece was having a moment and the waiter went over and beyond to calm her down. Each night he would show her different ways to fold animal napkins, he did magic tricks for the kid and us adults. The room stewart was awesome too! He was very tentative to our needs. My heads up is about if you have a strong sense of smell you might have a problem. We smelled what at least think was the smell of raw sewage twice on this ship. Once in our room and the other time was in the Restaurant where they did brunch. The smell greeted you at the door but not in the back. The staff faces looked like they could smell it too, you know the look where you hold your breath so you don't smell anything and putting your hand right below your nose so you can smell your hand lotion. Overall: the trip was enjoyable we made some memories and that is all that matters. Will I travel Sensation again: Probably not due to the smell issues only. Read Less

this was our first time on a cruise for my wife and I it was my wife and I wedding Anniversary of 20 some years. we was greeted to the ship fantastic way that never thought it was going to be the crew was great. the shows where great to. Especially the two that we went to the studio VIP show. and the 70 and the 80 show. the Playlist Productions Cast. they made us feel like we were like one of the cast in there show we did feel like we VIP. I like everything they did made us feel like one of there family. the rest of the crew on the ship was friendly to us and everyone that seen. the food perfect every day was deferent every day. like that a lot the rooms cleaned every day and the bath rooms to. everything seen. on the ship beautiful thank you to the captain for great Ride. we are going to set up another cruise on hear in 2020 with Family and grandkids. I choose this cruise for the entire family (14), 4 cabins. We had first timers and recurring cruisers. Our embarkation was fast and smoothly for all of us. I had every one doing their check in online , definitely recommend ,which help with the transition. For disabled assistance, the check in was fast too. I had requested wheel chair assistant for my parents ahead of time. We had 4 children during the trip, they loved the water slides, golf courts area, arcade, pool & the children clubs, recommend online registration for kids activities. This ship is one of the old one from carnival. Very simple, not much entertainment and activities onboard. Dance club not much options; DJ sucs no variety in music selection. Cabins were simple, small and some structures deteriorated.We had ocean view and inside cabins. The worst room service take long to bring your request. All shore excursions were bought at ports, cheaper.Yes will go again. Read Less

I recently sailed on the Carnival Sensation from 07/07/18 - 07/12/18. Upon boarding the ship there was a very strong sewage smell. We initially thought it was the ship emptying their tanks, however as the cruise progressed the smell continued. At that time I chose to not let it affect my vacation, while annoying I wanted to have fun. My cousin was getting married on the ship. On day 3 my husband and I realized we were showing in brown water. I immediately stood in line at Guest Services. I was offered an apology and a plumber promptly came to our room to resolve. He ran the water and it was clear for one minute, then turned brown again. I went back down to guest services where I was offered a steak/lobster dinner for my troubles. I said I was not satisfied with that, that I wanted a credit. I was told an investigation would be opened and someone would get back to me. On the next day, no one got back to me so I stopped at guest services and was told a plumber would be to my room, someone came again and said it was all fixed. But while he was standing in our bathroom we filled the tub and my husband asked him if he would shower in that, he said no sir and said he would let Guest Services know. At this point I went down to Guest Services again and was told I needed to speak with Connie. After another visit to Guest Services (4th time now), Connie and I talked, she offered me $150 credit (I paid over $4,200) for this cruise and she would reimburse me for $100 of charges already on my room. I was told this was the most they could offer from on the ship. I said no ma'am that wasn't good enough. It was a slap in the face for Carnival to tell me they couldn't fix the problem and Connie's response to me is that "Corporate was being stingy with offering any credits on this cruise despite the sewage leak". So it was confirmed there was a sewage leak and I was showering in brown water. How did I know that I was not showering in sewage? I don't!! And I wish I would have thought to take a sample. On Day 4 after 5 visits to Guest Services we finally saw Carol-Anne or Carol-Lee, I can't remember her full name. Carol saw the discoloration in the water and immediately apologized, offered an onboard credit of $150 per person and 25% off our next cruise. My husband promptly told her that given the lack of customer care we were provided with and the fact that Carnival was finding it acceptable that we showered and brushed our teeth in brown water, we would never been returning. As a side note, as soon as we discovered the brown water, we were all forced to brush our teeth with bottled water. I told Carol I would settle for nothing less that half our cruise fare returned to us. In the end we received $900, to which I indicated to Carol that was not enough and she said that is all she could offer on the ship. Remember earlier that I was told I could only be offered a total of $250, but now I am being given $900. Carol told me to contact Corporate when I got off the ship. I have since called Corporate, sent a message on facebook and an email. Today I received a return call from Vanessa, she was professional as she could be, but told me she didn't have a manager that I could speak with, that I was speaking with the person that she needed to speak to. She refused to provide me a Manager's name to speak with. This is terrible customer service. When someone asks to speak with your manager, you provide your manager's name. After filing this complaint, I will be contacting the EPA and Department of Health. Carnival you have failed me in the respect that you find it completely acceptable to allow your guests to spend 5 days with a sewage leak on your ship that could have potentially contaminated your water supply. I am requesting a refund of $2,100 which was half my cruise fare. Read Less

This being my 4th Carnival cruise...6th cruise total, I was shocked and extremely disappointed with the overall service, hospitality, and food during this cruise. Carnival cruises in the past have set a standard with me that I've grown accustomed to and love, and the Carnival Sensation was truly a disappoint to say the least. I'm used to being greeted when staff passes, not have them darn near scrub up against the wall to keep from having to acknowledge you at all. We experienced so much rudeness and so much attitude during the first couple of days that we just gave up on expecting anything positive from crew members. Something as simple as asking for directions to a certain part of the ship we encountered sucking of the teeth... REALLY! At our FIRST breakfast in the dinning room we requested Danishes for our table and the server had the nerve to exhale as though he was exasperated with us. This we did complain about and were moved to a different section. On Lido deck that same evening my girlfriends and I wanted to enjoy a pitcher of frozen Margaritas, the bartender proceeded to fix it on the rocks and when we told him that we wanted it frozen he literally THREW THE PITCHER into the tub bin behind him telling us LOUDLY "It doesn't come frozen"! The entire cruise our sink and shower were clogged and would overflow easily if we hadn't been careful and patient enough to not let it happen. This was reported to FIRST night of the cruise, and when we left... it still hadn't been fixed. I could go on...and on with complaints and the awful experience of this vacation but as bad as everything was as a whole I'm sure Carnival is aware way before my complaint today and obviously have chosen to do NOTHING. As much as I LOVE Cruise Vacations... IF SENSATION is the only ship sailing... I would NEVER CRUISE AGAIN!! After this Cruise, I'm strongly considering experiencing some of the other lines... I doubt if anything can be a worse experience than being trapped on Sensation for 5 days! I'm so easily satisfied, and I'm careful when having to make complaints especially where people's jobs are concerned. But things were so awful on this trip that I just couldn't let it just slide by. Not to mention that this was my most expensive trip of all if I'm not mistaken, which is another thorn in my side. Other cruises I've been on haven't been PERFECT, but the good always out weighed the bad so much that I didn't mind the other minor things... NOT THIS TIME! Things were so bad that we actually joked about this ship either being where newbies go to train but just not grasping it, or where the staff that are being let go are positioned until they disembark. The highlight and CARNIVAL HOSPITALITY that I've grown to love was consistant with Kirby - Lido Deck Server. He was the ONE person that provided the kind of service, fun, and memorable laughs that I've grown to love since traveling with Carnival. Kirby was ALWAYS quick, easily accessible, made suggestions, remembered our names and what we liked. Yes, Kirby is that stuff that other Great Carnival Staff are made of. Read Less

I wanna be fair, this is a value cruise and I get that and I honestly had a very good time, state rooms are comfortable and where cleaned regularly, casino was fun, spent quite a few bucks in the slots and playing blackjack, the host treated me and the wife with "free drinks" and brought some cookies and a certificate for a bottle of wine to stateroom which I appreciated. Where I always have issues with Carnival and this was our second trip with them, is the food!! Main dining room dinner was fine on the 3 nights we used it, however the food and service at the main dining room for breakfast and brunch was terrible, very slow and almost not edible. Buffett we didn't do, just not our thing however we did try the pizza station which was good and you could get a decent deli sandwich or a fairly taste Guys burger, which had weird limited hours of 12 to 6??? Why? Pool area was always very crowded and the music was so loud!! I avoided it unless we had to walk through, upper decks where nice and the back serenity area was good but man it got crowded fast! (Best spot is forward near the putt putt top deck) Had a great excursion booked through carnival in Cozemel, it was called the elite Champaign catamaran, highly recommend this! Worse part of cruise was getting of the boat, they really screwed this up! You just wait and wait to wait some more, one que to the next, have done other lines that have this down way better! But if you want a short getaway and have a limited budget this is probally a good value, Myself I would try another line or go with one of carnivals newer ships. Read Less

St. Jude benefit was exciting and the dancing was great.High tea was very impressive. Bingo was thrilling and rewarding. Hot tubs were comfortable. The saunas were perfect. The shows were captivating. the comedy club was really good the first night. I must say that the elegant dinning was a favorite. I also enjoyed the towel folding. I looked forward to see what we were getting next. What a fantastic cruise. My congratulations to the Celtic Thunder, Rose Tours and Carnival Cruise Lines for the awesome cruise we were on. My mom, who is 87, had a great time meeting all the members of the Celtic Thunder and all the other groups that were onboard. My thanks to Barbara from Rose Tours for all of her help before and during the cruise, she managed to get my mom (who is handicapped) and I some of the best seats in the main theater. There was so much entertainment on the ship that we had a hard time getting to all of the shows. We were very happy with all the shows that we did see, which was probably about 90% of the shows. The crew on the Sensation did a fantastic job of cleaning up the ship after the prior cruise passengers who were partying 24 hours a day on their cruise. As always on any Carnival ship the crew was great, the food was very good and disembarkation was the best I had ever seen. I loved the way the members of the Celtic Thunder were always walking around the ship and would always stop to talk or sign an autograph. The guys are awesome gentlemen and truly great people. They have awesome voices and put on great shows. It was a pleasure to meet Elaine from Ireland who works in the merchandising and ticket sales departments, she is another fantastic person. Being a VIFP Platinum member with Carnival, I know what to expect from Carnival and the onboard crew and was not at all disappointed. Awesome from shows Celtic Thunder, well organised concerts and events from Rose Tours and a great staff on Carnival Sensation made this a cruise to remember for a lifetime. Our first experience with Carnival will be our last. Our daughter chose this cruise for her beach wedding in Nassau. While I had read a few bad reviews, we thought "it's a cruise, how bad can it be?". How bad? Only good things were: smooth embarkation and disembarkation; Stefan the manager on board at Pixels; dining room staff; room steward; Catherine and about 3 other bartenders. THATS IT!! The boat is old-needs to be retired. Room was dirty. Dust on lamps and glass shelves. Carpet was disgusting. Room smelled like mildew. Had a Grand Suite, but grand it was not. Balcony door did not latch properly and the make shift lock they placed at the top did not secure it. Food was horrible. I actually lost eight pounds! Buffet was a joke. Food was dry. Dining room was not any better. Burgers were dry and tasteless. VERY little on board activities , especially for our 23month old granddaughter. Ports were fine, organized. Fairly smooth on and off at each. The boat is small, dirty, old and was actually leaking in places. During the art auction in Kaleidoscope, the roof was dripping. My daughters room had brown water coming from the faucets. Daughters officiant's room had the bathroom floor come up with the towel after a shower. This was the most disastrous experience EVER!! There is still so much that was wrong, but will save that for later. NEVER CRUISE CARNIVAL! SENSATION IS HORRIBLE! Read Less

This was my first cruise experience. I really enjoyed myself and thought the whole trip went great and smoothly. We sailed to Jamaica and Cayman Island. Food was for the most part great through-out the 5 day cruise. Occasionally something was overcooked but I was just amazed at how they were able to feed all the members and all the different varieties of food. Staff members were all very pleasant and all were extremely hard working! The room was small but that was expected but didn't spend much time in the room. Number one thing you should pack is an extension cord (came very handy plugging up multiple phones). Our housekeeper gave us the option of cleaning the cabin in the morning or evening and we picked evening. Occasionally someone would be in the room and they would have the person step out and down the hallway while they cleaned up. Entertainment was great, atmosphere was great. My main complaint would be the pool was too small for the number of passengers and saw several lady's sitting on the edge of the pool getting mad because kids were slashing water and swimming?! Great overall experience and would like to cruise again on another ship for comparison. Read Less

I went on this cruise with my best friend. It was my first time "cruising". The embarkation and disembarkation were disasters. It was very unorganized. There should of been staff or signs on each floor level giving directions or instructions on where to go. It was chaotic on every disembarkation. There has to be a better process. Most of everyone had the same complaints which was the disembarkation process off the shop to the islands as well as obtaining your liquor you purchased either on or off board. that had to go through customs. There were 2 lines for this however there were no staff or signs to tell you one line was for onboard purchases and one for off board purchase. After waiting in line 30 minutes there was finally a staff member around to inform everyone and by this time the guests were almost trampling over one another. This could of caused a major brawl. The food other than the nightly dining was below average and not many choices for a vegetarian or vegan person. On the positive note, the stewards were absolutely amazing especially ours by the name of Melinda. The balcony suites were extremely spacious and exceeded my expectations. Daily and nightly entertainment were excellent. I would not pay for excursions through the cruise line, you get them cheaper when you get to your destination. The spa is a joke, do NOT pay for this overly priced treatment. You can get same for 70% less at home. The spa manager was rude and if you win a spa certificate they'll offer you and book you a "special" but neglect to inform you until after your services that you can't use your certificate toward any "specials" and charge you the full service rate and won't refund you but will offer you (after major complaint) another certificate which doesn't cover any service they offer which means guess what, yes you pay for another service. I may have booked my 2018 cruise with Carnival however the spa experience and lack of customer service left a very bad taste in my mouth and I will book all future cruises through another cruise line and will tell all my friends not to cruise with Carnival. I hope the $50 was worth Carnival loosing a future cruiser. It was the principal. Read Less

My work booked us a 4-night cruise from Miami to Key West and Cozumel. We had a balcony room at the back of the boat, which we did like. The balcony was larger than the others near us which was nice. The ship's decor, furnishings, etc were all very outdated and old. Not dirty, but old. Our "air conditioner" would only turn between low and high, no "off" and our room was always really cold. I did not like the maze of getting from one place to another... The food was no better than anything I could make at home. Except maybe the cheesecake. The service was very good and that is why they get a 3 instead of a 2. The entertainment also saved this rating from a 2, the most fun things were the trivia games and the Newlywed Game (which was hilarious!) I wish the PG comedy stand up would have been longer than 15 minutes, the R Rated comedy is just not needed. I will probably never go on Carnival again, even if it's paid for like this one was. This cruise ship is good for first time cruisers. The ones that done expect much on a cruise. Don't expect anything spectacular because you wont get in it on this ship. Little pool, mediocre to nasty food, NO SHOWS. Windjammer food was not good at all. Some parts of the ship smell, but like I said, its an old ship, so that's is expected. Only chairs to longue in are the beach chairs. No fancy chairs to just stretch out and relax. The room was kept very tidy and clean. Very noisy crowd. Couldn't find a quiet space on the ship to really relax. Serenity on this ship is a joke. But I know it's older, so that's a given. I've been on many cruises, and this ship I wont go on again, because all the other ships spoiled me. The ports was good like always. We did Miss T's Jamaican food and Scotchies Jerk chicken. Oh and Debarkation to get off the boat to go home is HORRIBLE!!! They need to find a better way in doing it. Read Less

We were 1st time cruisers and didn't know what to expect. We had a blast! Mat the cruise director was a lot of fun (and Canadian too) while Floyd one of our waiters at dinner was so welcoming we couldn't wait to see him and share our day's adventures. Dinners and Sea Brunch were really good. The pizza on the Lido deck was thin crust and the best I've ever had. Our 13 year old daughter disappeared to the Circle C group and made fast friends with the kids there. Grand Cayman was amazing. Can't wait to go back! My best piece of advice......FASTER TO THE FUN!!!! It's a must, saves a lot of time standing in lines. The singer/dancers in the shows were first class. The two comedians were funny and I went back to all of their shows, even the repeat! We went on a private tour with Marvyn Gayle tours in Jamaica and visited the Blue Hole. A must see in Jamaica. In Grand Cayman we did the Carnival excursion with swimming with stingrays and star fish point. Both days were perfect. When we got back to Miami we did the Everglade tour but didn't see too many wild alligators. The water was too deep at the time. Probably wouldn't bother with a port excursion at the end of the trip. I'd try one at the beginning next time. Can't wait to try out a bigger ship with more amenities. I hear the Dive-in Theatre is a great experience. Read Less

I have cruised on the Sensation many times before and like the staff on the smaller ships. You get to know them on a personal level. The fun is always there, with less of a selection of newer ships that now offer specially bars and eateries. The Sensation is at its best, a great reasonable price for fun. The rooms are the most spacious among the other companies. Interior and Ocean views offer 185 sq. feet of space compared to Royal Caribbean and Norweigan only measuring in at 124 sq. feet-155 sq. ft. That makes a lot of difference when you are hunting for a more spacious place to unpack and relax. Carnival has the most spacious rooms in the cruise industry. The food is good but not anything out of this world to awe about, but it is tasty and you are never hungry. On the smaller fleet of ships the prices are always cheaper then the larger, newer ships when booking your cruise. I don't mind the quaintness of the smaller ships where others may want more. Remember though the more you want the more you pay for! My idea of a vacation is relaxation, not what ship I will be sailing on. Some people think opposite and want all the fancy perks of more expensive larger ships. Whatever you choose you can always be guaranteed a fun and relaxing vacation with Carnival. Read Less

Overall, this was a great cruise.  With a diamond status on RCCL, I haven’t been on a Carnival cruise in nearly 14 years, but was looking for something “New”. I stumbled across their Carnival Live concert series entirely by accident. Being a huge Kansas fan, I decided to give them another try. My expectations were low, but was genuinely impressed. For those who haven’t heard of the Carnival Live Concert series, heres a quick rundown. Carnival has booked a dozen or so major acts to perform a live concert in the ship’s main theater. They extend the stay in port long enough to allow the band time to do a night show after the second seating dining and get off the ship to do another show the next night on a different ship. The Sensation was scheduled to stay in Nassau until 1 A.M. They seem to have targeted the 3-5 day cruises, which makes it economical for those who are primarily interested in the band and not the ports of call. They offer a VIP price that included a photo with the band, autographed pictures, first 3 row seating. Normal tickets aren’t bad for the concert which ran $20, and VIP ran $100, but these prices vary with the band. After seeing this band many times in large arenas in the many years past, it was quite nice to be able to see them in a more intimate environment of the fantasy class ship theater. The show is a one set show, about 90 minutes long, and Kansas proved they can still rock a boat after 40 years! I’ve booked the Chicago cruise out of Tampa for the end of May. The good the bad and the ugly. Overall the ship is very clean and well maintained. The crew friendly and leaves you feeling welcome. Cabins looked good with a flat panel TV. The beds comfortable and room under them to store your bags. Bathroom small, and closet space tight, but more then adequate for a 5 day cruise. No hair dryer in the room. Cabin service was excellent, with our cabin steward refreshing our ice bucket whenever we left the room. Every evening we were greeted with a new towel sculpture. While almost invisible, our steward kept our cabin immaculate. Kudos to him. Meals on the ship were good. The variety of venues was excellent with something to suit nearly everyone. At the rear of the ship on the Lido deck there is pizza bar, and deli next to it, along with a small bar. My favorites were the corned beef and hot pastrami on rye paninis and Rubens. Each day the buffet line featured a new fare (French, American, etc). Moving towards the forward part of the deck, they offer cooked to order eggs and omlets for breakfast, and Stir Fry, burgers and hotdogs for the remainder of the day. Brunch is offered on deck 8 mid ship if you can figure out how to get there. The filet and eggs was good, and the salad with chicken not bad. Dinner service was excellent with a three man team serving us. Unfortunately unlike many other cruises I’d been on, those twenty minutes or more late were still seated. With so many other venues available for dinner service, those that late should have be turned away. Likewise, on formal night, I actually felt “Over Dressed”, and I don’t believe those in jeans and tennis shoes were turned away. With three cruise casual, and only one formal night, I don’t think this is too much to expect. I was impressed with the fact our waiter made sure he served those on time before trying to accommodate a group of four at our table that arrived more then a half hour late. The nightly parade also a bit annoying, led by a Maitre’D who couldn’t sing. While his staff is excellent, I feel he lets them down by failing to turn away discourteous diners. Corporate Carnival I hope you are reading! The dinner selections were good, having to resort to the “standard” menu option only once. The presentation was excellent, and most selections good. My wife chose lobster on formal night and found it rubbery and disappointing. My shrimp starter that evening was also sub par, but these were more the exception and not the norm. One night, the entrees were swapped with the sides, and as a result, a medium rare steak was sent back being over cooked. It wasn’t until later did we realize that the other couple we were with, had an undercooked well steak. Had they spoke up, a hostage exchange could have been arranged. Dessert selection was not as wide, which solves the dillema of what to choose that I normally experience on RCCL. My scales appreciate Carnivals efforts to keep me in line. Deserts were good, but nothing to rave about, and were not the highlight of the meal. Reduced and sugar free options were limited as compared to other lines. Coffee on board often was not fresh. After leaving the ship, our first stop was Ronald’s place for a decent cup of joe. This is something I’ve grown use to when cruising. Entertainment The two production shows I saw were excellent, “Curves” and the 80’s themed “Far From Over”. For a small ship, the productions rival the larger ships with elaborate costumes, and performance and composition. I found the male lead being the weakest aspect of the shows. Both going to see. The third show was also good, with a preview of the comedy acts, and an audience participation event that left me laughing. Wee Jimmy has to be the most memorable, and funniest cruise director I’ve yet to experience. His asst director left me in stitches with his duck impressions as a warm up intro for the late night adult comedy act. The highlight of the evening was the nightly trek to the Punchliner comedy club. Michael Macy is definitely the best act on the ship doing 2 different adult shows, and at least one other family friendly show. Jorge Solano is also great. Outside of the concert, the regular live music was disappointing. While the band that played a mid ship on deck 9, could do a wide variety of music, the vocals were lacking. The acoustics there, and also on the pool grandstand were horrible and overly loud. With enough alcohol, they may have sounded OK, but sober it was just noise. There were also other choices for DJ and club music, but found the shows and comedy acts my choice for a good time. The casino was friendly, and routinely typical of most I been in. Photos I’ve never seen so many photographers on any cruise ship before. I believe we must have set for at least six different settings on formal night, and ran out of time before dinner. It was great to have so much choice, and we had a hard time getting down to an affordable number of pictures. Most of the gangway and dinner pictures are done on 6x9 and are quite a bit more expensive then the 5x7s. I probably would have spent more and picked up a few more shots had the 6x9s been in a 5x7 format. I would have liked a digital only option, but this is not available. There was a special for $10 extra, after 10 purchased photos, you get a USB flash drive with digital copies. Shore Freeport, I didn’t venture far from the ship, buying a few trinkets here and there. Be prepared to “shop” as many of the hand made items, are mass produced, with a wide variety of prices. Don’t buy at the first place you stop. Nassau: If you’ve never seen Atlantis, It’s worth the 4 dollar taxi ride or ferry there. I wasn’t prepared for the bit of a long walk from the ferry pier, thinking the ferry docked at the hotel entrance. The walk isn’t that far, but being unsure where I should go, made the trip seem much longer. Sun and aquatic fun isn’t my thing, so don’t let their absence in this review leave you with the wrong impression. Departure: We used the “we’ll take our bags with us option”, and was off the ship by 8:00. By the time we got ready to leave the line had stretched from the mid ship gangways all the way down the starboard side to well past the aft elevators. Unfortunately they sent us down the starboard side hallway to join the end of the line. We should have used the art gallery, or the port side hallway to make our way to the end of the line. That was a big mistake considering the laundry and cabin carts and vacuums along the way. Live and learn, and take heed. All in all, a great cruise, and I love the new concert series. I will be sailing at least one more time on Carnival, and hope they continue the program. Without this new program, I probably would have never ventured on another Carnival cruise and discovered they are capable of the levels of service and entertainment, to which I’d grown accustomed. Parking: Used Park Port Canaveral, paying for 5 days for a 4 night cruise. Virtually no wait. Will use again. Hotel: La Quinta in Melbourne. Good rate, not far, and clean rooms and breakfast. Would use again based on rate. Zoo is close by if you arrive early. Read Less

I will hit some of the main points: Used Faster to Fun for boarding and it was a breeze getting on the ship (we were soaking in the hot tub before most people were even at the port :D) Room and room steward were great - no problems We ate most meals in the main dining room and food was good and service was fast (actually service was quicker than my last few cruises so many they made some good changes) We spent alot of time in the Serenity Deck area and it was adequate (Clean and not crowded but not as nice as ones on bigger ships) We did the Behind the Fun Tour and I def recommend it to see what goes on in the background and get a picture with the captain on the bridge Comedians were ok, I give them a solid B. Strangely my one complaint is not enough bartenders - a number of times we wanted a drink and there wasn't one to take an order (never had this problem before on a ship) Also not a big fan of them replacing the Sushi Bar with the Taste Bar We used the Park and Cruise for parking and the service worked well. We booked this cruise as part of group so we didn't really have a choice about the ship on which we were sailing. We did not have high expectations as we knew this was a smaller, older ship and Carnival is not generally regard as "upscale." Our trepidation was well validated the first few minutes on the ship. We boarded around noon & had about 90 minutes to kill until we could get into our cabins. OK, not a problem. But we were all shunted to the Lido deck to eat lunch. The buffet was horrid...largely inedible. The Deli and the Korean Wok were good but unprepared for the crush of guests and they soon had long lines. What really annoyed me was that while the Deli struggled with the long line of guests, only two people were slicing the meat & making the sandwiches. At the same time these poor guys were being overwhelmed, they had at least 5 servers trying to hawk drinks around the pool. Most of the time, they were idle. A little shifting of the manpower could have made a big difference. The main dining halls were almost as bad. The first night I had the steak and the meat tasted, shall we say, "funky." Others at our table had to return their food for similar reasons. And NEVER was anything served hot. The first night they screwed up our seating arrangements (we were a party of 6) and when we asked them to solve the problem, the maitre d' said "why don't YOU go over and ask those people to find another table." The maitre d' was a smiling, affable fellow but I'm sorry, asking people to move is NOT the job of the guest. On another night it took a full hour from the time we sat down until our first course was served. My wife & I agreed that were this our first cruise, we would be unlikely to take another. Fortunately, we had previously gone to Alaska on the Diamond Princess & found that some cruises are remarkably well run & efficient. The Carnival Sensation is not. Read Less

The cruise was too short to really get to know the workers but it is possible if you make the effort. The ship was clean overall with hand sanitizing stations. You definitely have to watch the buffet times, because if you have partied the night before, you might miss breakfast...they don't wait to switch over to lunch. We experienced where they took down the breakfast food 10 min early while we were still standing in line for it. The pool is small but seemed to be the hang out spot. The workers became annoying after constantly asking every 5 min if we wanted a drink. I would suggest the early dinning time so that you can do more of the night life activities. Our 8:15pm dinner seemed to be right in the middle of everything and we were a party of 12 so it seemed to take us forever to get through dinner, causing us to miss the some of the shows, etc. I went to one adult comedy show and it wasn't too bad. The Love and Marriage show is always my favorite...natural humor. We were 4 to an interior room with no window. I would suggest spending the extra dollar to upgrade to a balcony if possible. Drinks on the ship were expensive ($25 for a bucket of beer). There are only 2 outlets in the room which was somewhat of a problem for 4 girls getting ready and no full length mirror. There was a safe which was nice to have. One thing I would suggest would be bringing a lanyard or something to wear to keep up with your room key (Fun Pass). Also, I would suggest parking at the 'Park n Cruise' for $6.99 and shuttle to the port (short distance, 5 min ride) instead of paying high prices at the port to park. You can even make a reservation for the parking - very seamless process. Also, guys cannot wear short sleeves, hats, shorts, sandals etc on formal night so be sure to bring something a little nicer to wear. The cruise was fun, full of young people...there was a wedding, 3 or 4 bachelor/bachelorette parties on board so be ready to drink and get loud! Read Less

This was our group's "test cruise" to see if we should plan a longer trip, and to find out what to watch for. For a cheap, 3 day trip, it was enjoyable. However, I doubt I'll return to Nassau, and I probably will choose another cruise line next time. The rooms were bigger than I expected, but I was expecting to be packed into a torpedo tube. The staff kept it clean and organized. The public areas are scheduled for a much needed face-lift in 2011. The decorations looked like Star Wars meets Saved by the Bell. The pool area is very small for the number of people on board. The wait staff in the pool area is very quick to take your drink order if they notice you're empty. The food was unimpressive at best. The main dining rooms advertise master chefs, but I don't think they were any more qualified than my high school lunchlady. She could make some mean tater-tots. The food selections are hit-or-miss, so order one of everything in order to find out what's good. Any time I ordered a pasta dish, the pasta was overcooked and mushy. The seafood in the seafood dishes tasted old, and the ripe tomatoes in the tomato-mozzarella salad definitely weren't ripe. The buffet lunches were edible, but not great. The pizza and sandwich area was pretty good. Drinks provided were water, sugar water with a hint of lemon, and motor oil labeled as iced tea. What really upset me was when the breakfast hostesses lied to us and told us there were no tables available, when we could clearly see open tables. It turned out that they just wanted to close a half hour early. Entertainment choices onboard were sparse. I wish I'd gone to some of comedy shows, because I heard they were good. We did go to an 80s song and dance number that was watchable. Most of the time, we spent drinking overpriced drinks on deck or plugging money into the slot machines. For what we paid, it wasn't bad, but now we know what to look for when we schedule our next cruise. Read Less

I went on a cruise with several other divas to the Bahamas recently.I have been on other cruise lines, Royal Caribbean (2), Holland America(1), The Big Red Boat (1), and even an old defunct cruise line I can't name. I had also been on two prior Carnival Cruises; One was nice and one was crappy. Well the score is now 1-2.Parking. Parking was somewhat convenient. This was Carnival and there was no valet, but the parking lot is a short walk from the boat. As we parked the car and walked toward the pier, it started to rain. The pier seemed a lot farther away in the rain than in sunshine.Two aspects of the cruise were great. Embarkation and disembarkation. We were in a VIP cabin, so we did not have to wait in the miles-long line for general passengers to get onto the boat. Or the hours-long wait in the crowded common areas with the other thousands of folks to get off the boat. Embarkation and disembarkation in Nassau was also painless.After we had our non-complementary welcome drinks, we were rushed from the deck for the safety drill. In trying to get to our cabins for our lifevests, we encountered several rude members of the crew. That would be our introduction to Sensation life. It turned out that we did not need our vests for the safety drill. This must be some new rule, as before, on Carnival and other Cruise lines, we were always required to have our lifevests for safety drills.Room Service. Not so great. We arrived in our stateroom at 3pm to find that our cake which was supposed to be delivered at 5pm for our Bon Voyage party was already there. However, it had arrived sans plates, cake knife, or forks. I called room service to let them know that when they brought the other appetizers at 5pm, they should bring enough plates and forks for the cake also. On a great note, the Bon Vogage decorations were fantastic! Loved it.At 4pm, we met our cabin steward, Antonina. She quickly informed me that we would use a roll-away bed instead of the sofa bed in our cabin. We had already placed the questionably clean roll away in the hallway because we did not request it, it was in the way, and nobody would have slept on it—even if it were disinfected right in front of us. When I told Antonina we were not going to use the rollaway, we wanted her to dress the sofabed in the evenings; she flat refused to do it. She said the sofabed was difficult to pull out and that she was not going to pull it out and night and then put it back in the mornings--too much work. When I told her that we would pull it out ourselves, she refused to put it away in the mornings. My girlfriend slept on the couch for the entire cruise without pulling it out... I also asked for an extra bucket of ice. She told me to call room service. When I called room service, they said I should ask my cabin steward. I told them that Antonina said they should bring it and that I did not plan to be sent back and forth between room service and my cabin steward for a bucket of ice. At 5:30 when my 5pm order arrived, they did bring an extra large bucket of ice, but no plates, and no cake knife.We enjoyed our little Bon Voyage party sans cake. The canapEs were enjoyed by a few of our guests. Most of us found them pretty bad, though. We had a great view of the pilot boat from our balcony and watched the pilot climbing down from the ship and stepping onto the expertly driven pilot boat. The plates showed up toward the end of the festivities. The cake was pretty good.Dining on board. After our little party broke-up, we ventured out. Dinner was decent. The salad was fresh. However, to the strong consternation of the table waiter, I had to order two entrEes before finding an edible one. The lasagna did not resemble any I've had anywhere. This was not a good thing. The spare ribs were tender and seasoned well. The apple pie ala mode was room temperature and the ice cream (in a separate little cup) was just about melted when it reached the table. We roamed the boat. We went to the alcohol tasting. They had two varieties of Baileys and a coffee liqueur to taste. The other two days and nights, food was pretty mediocre. We patronized the pizza and sandwich bar multiple times. I don't eat sandwiches too much, but I was told they were very good. I mostly ate pizza. At one point, there were two stale pieces of pizza left. We asked for hot pizza. The server said no. So we had to wait for other passengers to take the two stale pieces, then ask for pizza again...I lost about 5 pounds on the trip, so there was an up-side to the food not being great.Shopping. We did some shopping. I always love the $10 accessories on these boats, similar to the $10 chain at airports. I told my friends we'd better buy them the first night. On other Carnival Cruises, the good merchandise disappeared almost immediately—as if this would entice us to buy the crappy merchandise that was left over. Carnival was true to form. I did find two great purses on the first night. I thought they might put out new or different merchandise later, but the cute merchandise was gone and the ugly ones remained plentiful.The "Gold by the Inch" guy was ill-tempered and bossy. He told me that the length of bracelet I wanted was "ridiculous" and that he didn't want to waste his time cutting it at the length I requested because it would make more work for him when he had to shorten it at my request later. I started to walk away, but wanted the jewelry. I had to argue with him for quite some time to get him to let me pay for what I wanted. After I finished, he started arguing with the next customer. It was pretty good entertainment. I could never obtain any documentation regarding the gold content of the jewelry, though the salesman repeatedly claimed that it is18k gold—but warned us not to put the "gold" in liquid jewelry cleaner.Entertainment. We saw the adult comedian preview on the television and decided to skip it. We went to the piano bar, but they were playing some weird game in which the passengers around the bar told jokes. From our vantage, it appeared that the longer one sat at the bar, the funnier the jokes seemed. We left before the jokes were funny to us.Karaoke was a BLAST. We had a FANTASTIC time! We stayed most of the evening. As this was pretty much the only viable entertainment on the boat, it was packed. We eventually got a decent seat in the back of the room. The nightclub next door also seemed pretty enjoyable. After Karaoke, about 1am, we searched in vain for something interesting to do. This is not the ship that never sleeps. We went and got some pizza and retired to our cabin.Our Cabin: Grand Suite U114. The balcony is large enough for five or six people to have a conversation while leaning on the rails, having drinks. There are two chairs and a side table. The cabin was roomy, but aged. You could definitely tell you were on an older ship. There was rust on the ceiling in the shower, but overall the bathroom was clean. We had a walk-in closet and a Jacuzzi tub. None of us trusted the filters in the older tub, but the shower water pressure and temperature were great. There was no fan for circulation. The bathroom got really steamy.On the second day of the cruise, we thought we would remind Antonina to take out the over-flowing trash. One of my diva friends is "the most understanding diva in the world." She found herself arguing with the person on the phone regarding the person on the other end's disbelief that nobody had dumped our bathroom trash for two days. We hadn't seen any glasses after our Bon Voyage party. We brought in disposable cups in from the outside buffet for most of the cruise.That evening, Antonina again seemed to stalk us before we left for dinner. She handed me our towels, and chocolates and said goodnight. When she saw my reaction, she added, "You can call me if you need me." Divas in other cabins had told us about their towel animals and cabins being cleaned after they left for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our cabins were hardly ever touched except after breakfast. We never saw an animal until the last night—the night after we reversed the automatic cabin gratuity from our sign and sail accounts. That's when we figured it out--Antonina probably did not want to make animals because she was awful at it.Sign and Sail. Unlike on other cruises, I thought I liked Carnival's policy of not requiring a credit card or minimum dollar amount for the sign and sail account. This was until the second night of the cruise I found my account to be negative. When I went to guest services to ask why my account was negative, the "Service Agent" on duty let me have it! She told me that if I had read my cruise documentation, I would have known that they were going to charge gratuities to my account. I then told her that other cruise lines charge the gratuities the last night of the cruise. Then I repeated my request for her to remove the tip. As she typed into the computer, she gave me a piece of very important unsolicited information. She told me between clenched teeth that my service staff would be able to see that I had removed my gratuity and that I "had better" "tip as you go" for services. I am not sure what else she had planned on saying because I cut her off and told her that I did not ask for her advice and she should just give me a receipt after she finished doing as I asked. I told her that we meant for our cabin steward to know we reversed the tip. Whew. Bar Service. Most of the bartenders were friendly and service was had in a reasonable amount of time. 15% gratuities are added to each drink. Most drinks are about $7. It would seem that bar service should be consistent throughout the boat. You can drink Bailey's® at the Lido Bar, but at the Empress bar, there is a brand of Irish cream called Brogan's. You can get a morning special drink at the Lido Bar, but at the same time, the same drink at the Empress Bar is $2.50 more than upstairs. WHY? Nobody knows. I enjoyed bar service, for the most part. This was my second cruise on Carnival - the first being in 1999.(However, I've cruised 13 other times so I'm not a newby to crusing.) Our cruise group included 29 ladies from the Warner Robins, Ga. area. My part of the group left Warner Robins on Wed., Sept. 30 and stayed at the Raddison. Great room, great bar service, and great shuttle to the ship. We got to the port about 10:30. Embarkation was quick and easy. We were in group 4. I really liked the fact that the picture taking was optional. We entered on Deck 7 and went straight to Guest Services which is located there to separate our charges. No line. It took all of 5 minutes at the most and we were good to go. The staff at Guest Services were friendly and efficient. We then headed to the Lido deck for lunch, drinks, and to catch up with the rest of our group. Then we were off to our room.... It was my roommate's birthday so we had arranged for the room to be decorated with the Happy Birthday motif. It was fantastic. Our room steward, Iasac, did a wonderful job with that and everything else for the entire cruise. (Sorry, folks. He is headed home shortly and will then be on the Dream.) We were in E-255 which is one of the new aft cabins. We loved it. No problem with motion, soot, or noise. There were two chairs and a table/foot stool on the balcony. One chair would recline and you could use the table for a foot stool. We don't smoke but had absolutely no problem with neighbors or with possible previous smokers in our cabin. The safety drill was quick and painless. We had selected late dining and Carnival did a "Sensational" job of seating all in the same area even though we did not all book together or through the same agent. Our table was #388 in the Ecstasy dining room. Our servers were Gregory and his assistant Nery. Impecable service each night. The food was just fine. Lobster was great and we all loved the soups. We had also ordered the birthday cake and it was well worth the $10 bucks. We all loved the dancing during dinner. We used the Lido for breakfast and for lunch and most of us used Room Service at least once. We found the food to be just fine. We were group number 21 to leave the ship but we were off by 8:15 or so. We had a little wait for the Raddison shuttle but once again their service was great. We had "Bong" as our driver both ways. Ok,so I know everyone has been waiting for this so here it goes! OK so it was bad, just let me tell you what they did to me! THEY MADE ME GET OFF THE SHIP!!!! Who cares that it was the end of my cruise, I did not want to hear that! So I sulked and got my bags and sadly got off of the ship. Although I thought about hiding out on the sun deck in hopes they would not find me.;) The ship was great, the food was good and we loved it. The new water slides are sooo much fun, we came back to the ship early on our port day so we pretty much had it to ourselves. They took very good care of us on the adults only deck, and no there were NO kids. They seemed to keep that in check. Our room was nice, a regular inside room.It seemed that the refurb had made a difference on the entire ship as far as the public areas go. The ship seemed very clean and like new. I have seen lots of pics of the ship before the refurb and it seems that it was a big update! Yes the main color is still purple but it is not like Barney did the decorating. Nothing was a loud color and I did not feel like I was on a vegas cruise ship not a carnival ship. As far as the lido deck goes, yes kids are allowed in the hot tubs there. And trust me they were full of them. Kinda looked like kid stew there were so many of them. But like I said, the serenity area was great and no kids allowed! Get the drink special card. I paid 26.00 for it,tip and all. You get five DOD on the card along with one DOD glass. You do save $ on the DOD,it was more expensive than before. We got to port in Nassau and got off of the ship soon after we were cleared. Our Yellow Bird trip was canceled because of lack of other people wanting free drinks. Can't understand why but oh well. We just walked around town And we ran into a surprise. We were walking down the sidewalk and almost ran over Steven Tyler, yes the Steven Tyler!!!! We walk into the store after him and after we could breathe and "Shopped" about 2ft away from him. OMG!!!!!! That was SO COOL! So we did not mind missing our Yellow Bird trip after that. Senor Frogs was, well Senor frogs. We had a blast. The last night there were plenty of things to do. We turned in early and enjoyed the rest it those great new Carnival beds. They are so comfy, we were out in about 5 min. after our heads hit the pillows. Disembarkation was a breeze. We put our 200lb suit case:) outside the night before and they called us down by groups. We were given zone numbers and it seemed like it went much faster than before. It went very smoothly. We were off the ship,very sadly, and quickly. Overall the trip was great, and the ship was GREAT!!! And I know you want to know about those add on balconies. After they were painted and finished they weren't so bad. Yes you can tell they were an add on, but the paint job did WONDERS!!! Some may not care for them but if you can get one, feel lucky. That add on balcony room could have been a window room!!
