This was our 2nd cruise with Carnival (1st time for our 2 kids ages 14 and 10 & mother in-law) and everyone had a great time. We departed out of San Juan, PR and embarkation & disembarkation was a breeze and hassle free. Loved all the ports and being able to visit places I would have otherwise not gone to on my own. There were enough activities on board that everyone was kept entertained. The kids enjoyed the buffets, water slides, and the nightly entertainment. We truly enjoyed the staff in the dining room. They were always pleasant and very accommodating. Likewise for our cabin steward (Ariel)! My only issue was that the shore excursions were on the higher end of what we'd like to spend so didn't book any through Carnival. We went on some excursions on our own and got the same tour but for a lot less than what the cruise was charging. I would definitely cruise Carnival again. Thanks for a great experience. Read Less

Before I launch into a tirade about this cruise, let me just say that the ultimate fault lies in Carnival's business model. They are trying to make as much money as they possibly can so they fill their boats past the brim until people are crawling over each other and competing for the resources on the ship. That being said, the cruise was bad. When I imagine a zombie apocalypse hitting the world and ships being the last safe haven, I basically imagined my vacation on Carnival fascination. People are everywhere, and your only break from the choas is your room (the only reason that was good was because someone in our party had one of the biggest cabins on the ship). There were so many people and such limited resources ( for examples places to sit, activities to participate, games to play, etc) that people were literally competing and fighting over who gets to sit where. I had more unpleasant experiences in that one week than the last few years combined. But it's not a surprise that's what happens when you have competing groups of people in a resource-limited setting - the strongest and the loudest survive by force. So if you'd like to go on a cruise, where huge, fat people intimidate you to leave a table that you had been sitting at for five minutes and that they had not claimed, go on Carnival Fascination. If you want to have people scream and yell at you in the Casino, go to Carnival Fascination. If you want to a crazy person to kick you off your beach chair screaming "I DO WHAT I WANT" (and the chair was unclaimed when I had approached it 10 minutes prior), then go to Carnival Fascination. If you want to surround yourself with the most low class, uncaring people go to Carnival Fascination. The food was mediocre. The on-ship pool was tiny and always brimming with 50 kids (the ratio of urine to pool water was undoubtedly higher than normal). The service was actually good (but I feel sorry for the abuse their employees suffer, not to mention the fact that their wages appear way under minimum wage - most of the service employees are from emerging countries like Carribean islands, West African countries, Malaysia, Ukraine, etc where they big companies like Carnival can take advantage of the poverty). Nightly shows were way loud and just vomiting the garbage of Hollywood and pop culture. Read Less

Most horrible customer service the staff did not care about your complains. All they say we are sorry but there is nothing we can do. We spent the first 5 hours on the first day trying to have the steward change the configuration of the room to fit 3 people. We had to eventually do it ourselves and I hurt my back in the process of moving around the beds. Cabins are so cramped barely enough for two people. Most Staff is very unhappy with their job so they are not friendly at all. The ship is old and rust is on all the life boats and other parts of all the decks areas which is a potential safety concern. The food is the same each morning with minimal choices, The coffee taste like mud. Dinner has some variety but rolls back to the same after 2 days. The waiter looks at you sarcastically when you order something extra. Entertainment sucks and the only play the music they want not what the guests request. Did shore excursions on my own. This was my 9th cruise and it was by far the worst ever and will never recommend it to my worst enemy. Stay clear of this ship period. Read Less

I took my daughters on this cruise out of San Juan to explore the city and destinations in hope shore excursions would be fun entertaining and educational. On arrival the ship had a disgusting nauseating sewer smell everywhere that lasted the entire cruise. Our grand suite was overpriced, small, the bathroom was tiny and leaked the entire cruise, and smelled bad even after it was cleaned. I ate in the dining room twice and the food was overcooked and tasteless. Service was slow. Buffet food worse than school cafeteria. I ate lettuce and under ripe tomatoes and cantaloupe. Lost 4 pounds during the cruise. Only one buffet line was open and lines extended out of the area outside. Cabins weren't cleaned. Dishes weren't removed. Internet and Carnival Hub didn't work and my daily complaints were dismissed by the IT guys. Boring entertainment. Shore excursions were just a van ride down bumpy roads with only a few photo ops. I slipped in gravel, and learned when I got to home that I tore my right hamstring and dislocated my hip. The ships Nurse never examined me but said if you can stand you're fine. Skip this cruise on this ship. There are better ones out there. Read Less

Even though we had done this itinerary before, it was one we were ready to do again-with a couple of days in Barbados! Because we embarked in Barbados, it was very easy. Carnival was ready for the couple of hundred people who were joining the cruise. The interior cabin was well organized, seeming to be bigger that other cabins we have had. Again, because we boarded in Barbados, we were assigned to My Time Dining. But this was not may choice. After a conversation with the Maitre'd we were assigned to a table in Imagination for dinner at 6:00. It was perfect! The staff were very friendly and paid attention, and throughout the cruise they remembered our names and our preferences. They were so much fun! We chose to go on an excursion each day. Each port was beautiful and all excursions were great! Disembarkation each day went very smoothly. Because it was just me and my husband, staying the night before the cruise in Barbados and a couple of days after the cruise made it a more relaxing experience. The beauty of the ship, the positive attitude of all the staff, the fun activities (we won a ship on a stick at Trivia), and the music in the Dining Room and added up to reinforce the name of FUN SHIP! Thank you! Read Less

To start off with and give a little bit of context, my family chose this cruise in particular to celebrate my grandparent's anniversary both of which are smokers and refuse to set foot in Mexico thus limiting our options. I've cruised two other times, once with NCL and another with Costa. This experience was the worst of the three and I can easily say I will never ever cruise with Carnival again. It's pretty typical that cruises try to sell you a lot of garbage while you're stuck on the boat, but Carnival really blew the others out of the water in this endeavor. There is quite literally nothing to do on the boat other than spend money and if you happen to find the one activity that is there for the guest's enjoyment... don't worry, give it a few minutes and you'll be offered something, I promise. Carnival even goes so far as to add extra alcohol to their drinks in an effort to justify them jacking the price up to over $10 for a mojito. If you know anything about bartending, you know that you can't just change the proportions like this without the drinks tasting awful; and besides it still wasn't enough to justify the amount of the price hike. As experienced cruisers we researched the stops fairly well before getting on board so we weren't dissatisfied with the stops, but that was mostly because we already knew there was little to do there. This is a cruise where you will need an excursion in order to enjoy the area, except for St. Maarten where you can just take the ferry over to the beach for $7 for unlimited trips the whole day. Getting on the ship went smoothly, no one lost our bags which is always nice. I'd say we were lucky as we ran into another guest who arrived to find his "stateroom" flooded up to his ankles and staff had to rush to try to accommodate him in another room. The ship was small and very outdated. Decor was an eyesore and you can definitely tell its age. I'd say it's about time to rip the thing apart for scrap as there is visible rust, holes and leaks throughout the ship. We also had numerous issues with the flushing mechanism in the toilet in both our staterooms (had to be serviced more than once each by the ship's plumber), just because everything is outdated and old. Our bathroom also flooded every time we took a shower because the drain in the shower would overflow out of the drain for the rest of the bathroom. The dining experience was one of the few bright lights on this trip. The food was good with quite a variety and our dining staff was attentive and polite. I can't say the same for the rest of the service onboard. One of the interactions that I'll never forget took place the last night of the cruise when I ordered a drink to my stateroom for my girlfriend. She took a sip after it arrived and handed it to me asking if I tasted anything off. Sure enough, there was no alcohol in this drink at all: just soda water and mixer. I called room service back to request a correctly made drink and she rudely told me that since she doesn't make the drinks I would have to leave my room and take it up with the bartender! This attitude pervaded the whole ship the whole trip among most of the staff other than those in the dining service. Unacceptable. I can definitely say I would not go on this cruise if I had the choice to do it all over again and I won't be cruising with Carnival in the future. Read Less

Chose due to the itinerary. (Southern Caribbean leaving out of San Juan). I was told by a friend the itinarary was a WOW (it was) however the ship was trash. This is my 10th Carnival cruise. All but one on old ships. I know what to expect. Bad room (read below) less than exciting activities, Trouble with getting back on the ship, Rude Guest Services people, Pee on the public restroom floors, almost every day. Noisy library, Food was Carnival norm, but the service was often a mess. They would bring one of our meals half an hour after everyone else. Very choppy design on the ship. I would give this one a NO GO. These over 20 year old ships are starting to really show their age. Carnival needs to put some money into them, or retire them. And as for customer service, put more emphasis on kindness and making customers happy. Not partying and drunkenness. Read Less

We chose this itinerary for our first cruise as there were so many stops in the caribbean. We travelled in a group of 7 (late 20's to early 30's) from Australia and essentially just wanted to use the ship as 'transport' to visit all of these amazing ports. We ended up loving our time on board and will definitely cruise again. It took us almost two weeks to get to Puerto Rico from Australia as we flew from Adelaide, Australia (via Auckland) to LA, then Miami (where we hired a car to visit the Florida Keys) and finally Fort Lauderdale to San Juan. We stayed at an Air BnB in Old San Juan for 2 nights prior to embarkment and easily found our way to the cruise terminal. Overall highlights were visiting St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. (St. Lucia we could have skipped, or in hindsight we would have taken a taxi to a resort for the day as the beach was dirty, expensive and we were constantly approached to purchase drinks, jewellery or marijuana). Dusan and his staff in the main dining room were fantastic, as was the food. We didn't book and shore excursions through the ship, instead opting to make our own way from the port. Taxi's and buses (although very expensive) were easy to navigate. The only hiccup was some misinformation supplied to us by the porters in San Juan (I asked where to declare 2L of Barcardi purchased at the factory and they told us to put it in our checked luggage and we'll get it back at disembarkment - as they were in a hurry to take our bags - this was subsequently confiscation upon check in and it wasn't until the last day that we found out that it was discarded). This was disappointing and no compensation was offered by guest services for the misinformation provided. We enjoyed using the gym and spa on board and found there were plenty of activities to entertain our group on board. We loved the lobster night and found the facilities on the ship exceeded our expectations and that of other reviews we had read in preparation. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the itinerary. My wife and I have cruised on Carnival about 10 times, this was our 7 year old son's third cruise and 2nd for our 4 year old. We also had our adult daughter and her 18 month old daughter with us. Carnival has been our go to get away/vacation and we have been very happy with all our past cruises; we live in Florida so it is very convenient. The ship is old, we knew that going in, but the ship is not in bad shape, for it's age it is actually nice. The issue we had was with the crew, by far the worst service we have received on a cruise. I would describe them as stand offish for the first three days at least, sort of like the feeling you get in Home Depot when you have a question and employees seem to disappear. One ship issue is the cabin for 4 means you get a 4 inch high cot that goes on the floor but you get charged full price; new ships have full cots or sofa fold out. We did have one excellent server at dinner one night and Juan at service desk did good job addressing our complaints but it took a while to get to him. Initial response to us was "you booked with travel agent we can't/won't help you". Again itinerary is excellent just do not expect too much from crew. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. There were 5 ports after leaving San Juan....only one true sea day. We were busy everyday and exhausted in the evening, but did go to a couple of the comedy shows, that we did enjoy. Our embarkation couldn't have been any smoother. It was probably the easiest that we have ever gotten on board. I think the food, service, cleanliness, etc. was all about average to what we have had on our other Carnival cruises. I was a little afraid of what we were going to find with the Fascination due to some other reviews I read. I didn't find it as outdated and in as bad of shape as others had reviewed. It is a smaller ship and doesn't have all the same things as the other bigger ships. We had a great time as we were more about the ports than the size of our cabin. This was the first cruise where we were asked by the room steward if we wanted early service, late service, or both. I thought this was a little odd, but if we needed something else in the p.m. our steward (Gade) was always willing to help. We had a great time and I wouldn't hesitate to go on this ship again.
