Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Carnival Freedom

How to do Europe with no luggage.... We flew to Rome several days before our departure date of 5/10/08. Our most direct flight option was to fly through Newark airport. Mind you we claimed our luggage in Newark, and hand carried it to the international check in desk, because we had heard that they had 'baggage issues' in Newark. We checked 2 bags, and had 2 claim checks when we arrived in Rome. ...

Our sail date was May 22nd. My husband and I are frequent cruisers but we had never been to Europe before. Our grown daughter traveled with us. She's been to Europe several times. We arrived in Rome on USAirways three days prior to our cruise. We flew overnight on USAirways and were jammed into a very small area. Most of the time we were in Rome it rained which made it hard for us to use a map to ...

Let me begin by saying that this was the 3rd cruise for both my husband and I with Carnival; however, I will say that maybe the next cruise will be with another cruise line for the following reasons: We began our trip flying on US Air which I booked through Carnival. We were originally supposed to fly from Raleigh-Durham to Philadelphia; however, Carnival only gave us 50 minutes to get from ...

This was the 4th cruise for my wife Denise and I, the 3rd on Carnival. We were travelling with our friend Tom, and Denise's mother. We took the cruise in celebration of both my wife's and Tom's 50th birthdays, both of which would occur during this cruise. Just as background information, I'm 50 years old also, and somewhat mobility impaired -- I don't use a wheelchair, but I walk with a cane, and I ...

On the whole, my cruise was a wonderful experience thanks mainly to a wonderful group of friends with whom I traveled, and the gorgeous stops on the Freedom's itinerary. The ship itself, and the way things are handled on it, leave quite a bit to be desired, from the hideous decor to the organization. The decor is atrocious and it wasn't just me who thought so. Ugly, gaudy, tacky ... my best ...

Pre-cruise: This was our 10th cruise with Carnival. We were a group of 25+ and most had previously cruised with us before. We arrived in Rome early to see some of the sights prior to leaving on our cruise. We stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen which was quaint, clean and reasonably priced. I had made arrangements with Alfredo with Roma Shuttle to pick us up at the airport and take us to our hotel. We ...

Background Information I travelled on Carnival Freedom with DH to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. My travel agent sent me a flyer about the cruise a year ago with a great price...too good turn down! We like to travel and this was our second cruise. We flew Alitalia - next time, I think I will spring for business class. Ship Info DH thought it was rather gaudy with all the bright colors and ...

After reading CC reviews for months about the Carnival Freedom, I finally went on MY trip. We were five couples, mostly teachers what work together. We arrived in Rome the night before the cruise, each couple getting to Rome on their own. Some had FF miles and other like me, booked their flight through Wholesalefares.com. Lufthansa flights are a dream! On time, comfortable and generous with the ...

WARNING: THIS IS A LONG REVIEW! My family (includes 2 teenagers) and I were on the Carnival Freedom on the July 12, 2007 sailing to Rome, Naples, Rhodes, Izmir, Istanbul, Athens, Katakalon, and Florence. SHIP: Embarkation was a breeze. We arrived at approx. 1 pm via private transportation that I shared with another cruisecritic.com member. As soon as we arrived at the dock, our bags were ...

EMBARKATION: Smoothest that we have ever encountered. We arrived later but there was little wait and check-in was very short. PORTS: Personally, the worst ports of call were in Rome and Messina, Sicily. The city of Rome itself was quite dirty, but the Colosseum was spectacular. Messina was a smaller city, but the problem was everything was closed. Barcelona, Spain was the best part of the cruise ...
