This was a Bare Necessities cruise, which, from our past experience, has an extremely friendly passenger base and very-well coordinated activities. This cruise was a disappointment, mainly due the apathetic service and really iffy food from Carnival. Compared to the Celebrity Constellation's cruise in 2016, this cruise was simply sub-par. I'm not one to send food back, but I did so at the sit-down dinner 3 times. These 'sit-down' dinners are supposed to highlight the chef's talents, but the (limited) buffet options were actually better. The staff ranged from excellent to snarky. Instead of seating us with other passengers at dinner, we were told to "sit wherever you like", which diminished meeting folks (quite a highlight on the Celebrity). Everyone we did meet agreed that this cruise was simply not up to standards, especially when comparing it to last year. Carnival is know as the "fun ship", not for quality ~ and I'd have to agree that Carnival is the 'Wal-Mart' of the cruise line, 'tho it's not any less expensive. Read Less

I love the Pride. This was my 5th cruise. However I noticed that some of the perks are no more. Examples are not all cabins get the robes (you can have them upon request) but not every room has them any longer. The complimentary toiletry basket has also hit the skids. The crew was great as always and our cabin Stuart was awesome. I've made a point on trying a different cabin grade and something special on each cruise. This time was the spa. I got a cut and hair treatment. Was quoted a price but charged a few bucks more no big deal just a "surprise". My DH tried the behind the scenes tour. They got less pictures then when I did it. I have not had the chance to look over past FunTimes but it seemed there was less entertainment as far as live shows than a few years ago. I feel the female singers need some polishing. Lots of what sounded like straining voices out of range. Comedy shows typically I am good with. Not this time the adult show was just sad and the family show was terrible I don't find humor in racial jokes or comments even if it is your own culture you are making the butt of a joke. We purchased Faster to the Fun. I'm glad we did. It was no help with disembarkation at the last day nor did we get a priority # to call guest services. However each time we went to guest services we were taken care of immediately. I would purchase that if I go again. Our AC in the cabin worked about 4 hours the entire cruise. I have video when it finally cooled as we were heading home it was because the air was coming through the door so much the curtains were moving. The first uncomfortable and worse cruise I've had. Mind you I've spent time stuck on the water on a dead ship before so this is saying something. :( sad Read Less

The cabin was nice and spacious, clean and in good repair. I really enjoyed everything from the food selection, servers, beautiful scenery in the Bahamas, to our state room clean up guy who had a fun towel animal creation waiting nightly I was very pleased all around. I was on the ship with family and friends, high energy performances, impersonating old school and new school singers, actors and dancers great experience wine tasting and fun shops We chose Carnival because it was recommend by a friend. It was a great time, Our group was from 8 to 70 and all had something to do. The excursions that we booked through Carnival were superb. The food was great and our dining accommodations were excellent. The interior cabins were comfortable and our room steward was always there and helpful. The cabins and hallways were always clean. Room service was great - hot coffee delivered to the door each morning, Very professional staffing in all areas of the ship. Smooth sailing all the way did not notice any high waves or extreme rocking. If you have never cruised it is definitely something to do. Read Less

After 20 Carnival Cruises I have to give the crew of the Pride top rating. The itinerary was just so-so, but we still had one of the best times ever. Our house keeper, Num, the best yet! If you do the Casino, this crew is awesome. If you need bar service, look for Joel. He took care of our needs from the first night out and I can't say enough. Been on too many where even the best was slow. Giving Joel a lot of credit, but the Casino was ran better than any I've done at Sea! After leaving the Majic earlier in the month, May 7th cruise, the worst managed I've ever encountered, I was impressed! Glad to know its not a Carnival issue! Even the food on board was great. The only negative to watch for, and if you think it through, not so bad, was the delay in embarkation and disembarking. The Pride travels so far up the Chesapeake that traffic must be dealt with. So just plan accordingly. When you do get on board it's a treat and just plan on sleeping in on disembarking day. That was a first for us! Anyway, awesome Cruise, take it! And look Joel up for your drinks in the Casino, tell him Mike appreciated him. Also the the corner 3 card poker table was a blast win or loose every night! Read Less

We have been on many Carnival Cruise Ships. We also have experience with Royal Caribbean. On the Carnival Pride I can say that the staff was great! The staff was pleasant and very helpful. They learned our names fast and addressed us by our names whenever they saw us. Our head waiter was not very good, he was demeaning to the people who worked under him. However his assistants were excellent and we passed that along. I personally did not enjoy the food in the dining room, but it may have just been me, because my husband and the others at our table did not complain. The Captain did an excellent job of keeping us out of Tropical Storm Ana's path on our way home. Kuddos to him. However, I found the ship to be very rough, in that there always seemed to be a vibrating sensation from the engines. I love Guy Feri, but I did not like the Burger Restaurant named for him. Even though there were many toppings to pick from, they appeared to be greasy. The Cruise Director, Jase, was annoying and tried to be funny. We were disappointed with the shows. We were also disappointed that we had a very limited time on Grand Turk and Freeport. However, Half Moon Cay was one of the best stops ever!! We totally enjoyed that island. I wonder what those little clear fish were that kept swimming around us? Beautiful! The lunch provided was just okay. We got there a little bit late and they were packing up. I know this was an older ship which was recently refurbished. However, I personally was not wild about the décor and felt that the ship as a whole may not have been renovated, only parts of the ship appeared to be updated. I loved the adult pool/hot tub section. However, the pool seemed extremely small. The only other thing I would say is that my husband and I did not get the same sign and sail cards as Gold Members. We both have cruised the same amount of times. But that was an easy fix. Like I said the staff was great! Will we cruise again with Carnival? Probably, because we go with a group, but I am not opposed to trying different cruise lines. Read Less

We just returned from a week cruise on the PRIDE out of Baltimore to Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Freeport. Our entire group of 50 people had a fantastic cruise and a great time on the PRIDE. We loved all the new renovations. Although we have sailed on the Pride on 2 other prior trips, this was our favorite. The new Red Frog Pub was awesome as well as the new bar layouts on Lido. We love the new food venues too and they were much better than last trip. I think the biggest hits with my group were the The taco bar and Guys Burgers for lunch which I think we all ate several times during the week. GREAT IMPROVEMENTS and kuddos to Carnival. The dining room staff were excellent as well. Ken, the Maitre D was the best we've had yet. He was Very personable and a great singer. He came over every night at dinner (when we were not at David's) to talk to us and our group. Our waiters Orlando, Florin and Imade were awesome too! We got great service at dinner. David's is always a favorite and many of us ate there mulitple nights while on our trip. It was nice to see Brad bartending at David's in the evenings after bartending on lido during the day. Also, I have to let you know that the Bar staff we met this trip were exceptional. I could not get all their names but those who stood out to us and provided excellent service were: Brad, Jing, Joann, Luis from the Lido Red Frog main bar and Made from the atrium bar. We had alot of fun with all of these fine folks. They told us they did not want us to leave which was a real compliment. We took good care of all the service staff which they all deserved as they all work so hard. Deep, the F&B Mgr. was also a great help and we enjoyed talking with him on several occasions where we ran into him. We have met many F&B Managers over the years sailing on Carnival since 2003, but Deepp is the best F&B Manager that we've met to date and our favorite. Deep took the time to say hi and ask how things were going. He is a very nice man and he went out of his way to take care of some small issues we had which was really appreciated by me and my husband. The entertainment was excellent this trip and much improved since the last time we sailed on the Pride in 2012. One of the entertainers, Alex was on the last cruise so it was great to see him again and we had alot of late night sing alongs to his music. The calypso musicans are back with was missed last trip. We enjoyed all of the entertaiment at night and during the day at various venues during our cruise. One of our favorite cruises to date. I would definately recommend this itinerary and ship. Baltimore is a great cruise port and it is easy on and off. They really have this down to a science. Looking foward to sailing again with our group in the near future. Thanks Carnival! Read Less

The Pride is showing her age. Public bathrooms were always dirty and seemed to be cleaned rarely. Did not see staff wiping down railings very often during cruise. No mandatory requirement for hand sanitizing before meals. Sanitizers are located well outside of the dining room and often missed by passengers who are in a hurry to eat. Needed to get cane from Medical Center first day of cruise due to sciatic problems. In 5 days of breakfasts and lunches at the Mermaid Grill (buffet) only one staff member offered to carry my tray as i struggled with a cane in one hand and tray in the other. This would never have happened on NCL. I have seen the staff offering to take trays for those who needed help while they were still in the buffet line. One supervisor even walked past me while i struggled. The food was adequate if that in the buffet and in the main dining room. Specialty restaurant was not tried. Wait staff was very friendly. That said- one bartender from the deck bar tracked me down in the buffet to bring me a soda since she was not yet open when i passed by on my way to breakfast and the cruise director and her staff were terrific! It was certainly not 7 nights of hell but was just about the least favorite cruise i have ever taken. Read Less

Let me start with background. This cruise was the 5th for my husband and I, (late 30s-early 40s) and the first for my 21 year old daughter. It was a college graduation present to her. My husband and I previously sailed on the Pride in January of 2010 with the same itinerary. We chose this cruise again because Baltimore is our home port and because of the great price. We spent Saturday night in Baltimore. We ate dinner and went to the James Joyce Irish pub for cocktails and to watch playoffs. Always a great time there! Embarkation was smooth as always at Baltimore port. We were on the ship by 12:30ish and in the sports bar for the start of the Ravens game. Did I mention I Strongly dislike the Ravens? Met up with cruise critic roll call people while there and enjoyed our first bucket of beer while watching the game. Went to our cabin after the game and retrieved our luggage. Only one suitcase hadn't made it at that point and of course it would be my daughter's. It arrived later and all was well. Had a balcony on deck 6 and surprisingly my daughter and I could fit all of our clothing with a little room left for the hubby. Met our cabin steward, Henry, and from that point on he referred to each of by name throughout the rest of the cruise! Our room was well taken care of and service was great! We chose My time dining and I have to say it worked out great for us. Yes, you loose the comradery you would have by having the same wait staff every night, but not being stuck to a certain time to dine was great. Night 1 was come as you are and we did!! The food throughout the cruise in the main dining room was pretty good to very good. Always enjoy the lobster on formal night and my husband and daughter really enjoyed the prime rib later in the cruise. We also ate at David's steakhouse and once again had a fabulous meal and service! A must try for last night of the cruise is the bacon mac and cheese!! The buffet food was as it usually is and we always found something we wanted and never had to wait for seating. The coffee and chocolate covered strawberries at the coffee shop are good. As far as entertainment goes we didn't catch any of the musical shows in the main theater. We did catch most of the comedians and really enjoyed them all. We participated in most of the trivia contests throughout the week as well as the scavenger hunt. We also enjoyed the wondering magician, Tim, his card tricks were impressive! We joined a group for the Quest and came in 3rd place so our team won a bottle of wine. My daughter participated in the gender revenge game at the end of the cruise and of course the women won and she got the coveted 24 carat gold plastic ship on a stick! We caught the karaoke sessions a few times and my husband sang a song or 2. By far the most entertaining venue on the ship was the piano bar! Roger was the entertainer on our previous cruise on the Pride and we were so happy he was still there! He played and sang everything from the Beatles to Lady Ga Ga to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody! The place was always full with people from 21 to 81! My daughter loved it and we stopped in for a little while every night! We spent some time in the casino with my husband teaching my daughter how to play craps. Surprisingly, they both came out rather well at the end! The casino bartenders were the best on the ship. Sadia and Jittima were so friendly and helpful! The crew is what really makes a cruise experience stand out and the crew of this ship made this trip Great! We had a server, name sounds like Alibaba, that remembered us throughout the cruise and quickly became our favorite! We enjoyed interacting with him. In Port Canaveral we took the bus trip to Disney World as my daughter and I had never been. It was a nice day overall and I can now cross it off of my bucket list, although I don't think I will go back! In Nassau we went to Atlantis. My daughter did the dolphin excursion and my hubby and I did the Aquaventure, love the not so lazy river! Third time at Atlantis and still didn't see everything! Went back to ship, changed and headed to Senor Frogs for dinner and a yard. We did the jeep excursion in Freeport with stops at Junkanoo beach and Garden of the Groves. Would recommend all of these excursions! My husband did the behind the scenes tour and really enjoyed seeing parts of the ship that most guests don't get to see. He met the captain and galley crew and got pictures with them. Only a few people get to do this so I recommend signing up the first day at the guest services desk. Of course everything wasn't perfect, but it was pretty darn good. We never really got to hang out at the Serenity area because on days that were warm it was packed and we didn't get to use the pools because it was too cold or packed when warm, but we knew that going in. My husband and daughter did go down the slide and were both smiling when they were done. Would I recommend this cruise? Absolutely! Read Less

This was me and my husband's 5 cruise and second with Carnival line. I can honestly say without hesitation that this was the worse cruise ever. And if this was my first cruise I'd ever been on I'd probably never take another one!We booked this cruise for a couple of reasons. 1- We wanted to take the kids on their first cruise and this week lined up with their spring break, 2- It was cheap (you really do get what you pay for) and 3- we live in Ohio so we could drive there.Embarkation- We drove so we used their parking lot. We got there around 9am which was pretty early so the attendant told us we had to come back later. The port seems like it was in a sketchy neighborhood. We asked her where we could get a bite to eat and she said there was a Wal-Mart with a McDonald's in it. This struck us as funny because if someone came to Ohio and asked where they could go to get something to eat a fast food place in a Wal-Mart would be the last place I'd tell someone to go. But we just laughed about that. When we did get to the parking lot it was congested (which is fine a lot of people trying to get on the ship) but they way the traffic was handled was a joke. We were one of the first lines there but one of the last ones let in. And the attendant who gave us Wal-Mart directions was directing traffic while smoking a cigarette and not even looking at the car she was directing to go. So....When you pay for the parking you can pay by cash or credit. They had 2 women in an SUV in the middle of the 2 lanes taking your money. One of them was yelling and going off about something.... All I heard was...I've been here for 5hrs and I didn't get a single tip. I was very afraid to let them swipe my credit card!! Getting through security was easy and everyone was very nice in the terminal. We went to the Lido deck when we got on the ship to hit the buffets and get the kids some ice cream. The buffets were a joke. They only had one grille open for hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and fries and that is what everyone ate! The wait for that line was not shorter than 20min every day. This was a hot spot for my kids because that's all they ate the entire cruise. The ice cream machines were right by the grille so the grill line always wrapped around to the ice cream station. So you had 2 lines running into each other. The food in the restaurant and buffet was terrible! My husband was sick for 3 days after eating their food. We had to go see the nurse just to buy something for his diarrhea. I got sick on the last day on the cruise. Camp Carnival was another joke. My 7y/o spent a total of 2hrs in there and my 5y/o maybe a total of 4hrs in 7 days there. They didn't do the activities that were on the itinerary. They said they were going to have a magician and when I picked my 5 y/o up and asked him how he liked the magician he said they never had one. And when I picked him up they were all sitting around watching t.v. The halls would smell like raw sewage, our toilet would flush and then bring whatever was flushed back up. Probably from everyone using the facilities too often from getting sick! The toilet smelled like urine! I mean like port-a-potty smell! Pools were freezing cold. One day when it was finally warm enough to swim my husband asked 3 different people if they could clean the pool because it was so dirty with bugs and debris. Finally he took the pool skimmer out and cleaned it himself. You think any workers stopped him from doing it....no they just watched him do it. Slide was never on. It only operates if the temp is 74 degrees or more. HERE'S THE BEST PART!!! Our first stop was Port Canaveral. We went to Universal Studios, which was awesome! Just wish we had more time there. When we returned there was a severe thunderstorm and "a gust of wind" hit the ship and snapped one of the mooring lines holding the ship to the deck. This made the ship move away from the deck and made the on ramp separate from the ship. They had to immediately call everyone off the ramp and made us wait in the terminal until they fixed the problem. Well we ended up staying in that terminal for 3hrs! They didn't know what they were doing. They ended up shipping half of the people waiting to get on the ship to another port then decided that wasn't a good idea. So those people who were sipped to the other port had to come all the way back and go through security again. They gave us a granola bar and a pop while we waited our 3hrs! We missed our early dinner. We were in the terminal from approx. 6pm to 9pm. We ordered room service (cold sandwiches!) and had to wait at least 45 min. for it because everyone was ordering! It gets better......We were suppose to leave Port Canaveral at7pm that night but didn't end up leaving until 6am the next morning because when the mooring line broke they had to drop the anchor and a mechanism broke to bring the anchor up. Instead of taking us to Nassau they opted to skip that port and take us directly to Freeport. They said we got a "bonus day at sea!" Wippy dooo!! Who wants to spend a total of 5 days at sea on a boring ship!!?? Freeport only had one thing to do and that was get a taxi and go to the beach. We complained to the excursion and help desk because our excursion we booked at Nassau was canceled and the same excursion at Freeport was 70 bucks more. We didn't want to pay any more than we already had for our excursions. They all said "their hands were tied." So we asked to speak to the manager and he gave us the same response. And that none of what happened was their fault. They were not sympathetic at all! In the end they gave everyone a 25 dollar on board credit for our troubles (which didn't seem like enough) and $0.71 back for the port we missed. I would like to know if it's only $0.71 per person for each port then why do they charge so much extra the more ports you stop! The staff looked like they hated their job and acted like it too. Probably because they did! My kids said they were happy to be home. And so were my husband and I!!! I don't know how this ship ever got any good reviews!!! If you book this cruise then good luck and I hope your experience is better than ours was. But I would never recommend this cruise to anyone!!! Happy sailing!! Read Less
