Heard good and bad reviews and I wanted to judge for myself. Overall, it was a nice ship with room for improvements. Casino had a low ceiling with very little ventilation. Layout was not player friendly. Had a balcony cabin and there was less room for luggage. Felt a bit smaller then we are used to staying in on other Carnival ships. Had late seating for dinner and service was extremely slow. Never served our appetizer before 8:45. Lucky if we finished by 10:00. No ambiance in the dining rooms, more like cafeteria seating. Entertainment throughout the ship was very good. Embarkation and debarkation was extremely slow and behind schedule. Being Platinum did not make much of a difference. We are booked on a back to back to back starting January 8th out of Miami. If it wasn't so close, I would probably rebook on another ship. Maybe things will run better out of Miami. Read Less

This is our second cruise, first one was on Liberty of the Seas (from Bayonne . This ship expirience is definitely nicer in terms of embarkation and disembarkation. It was faster and more organized in general, almost never a wait. I don't understand complaints about staff on the ship in some reviews - I personally loved the staff. Everyone was welcoming, not overly intrusive, and very nice. My 5-year old loved the Camp Ocean staff and was crying on the last day because she didn't want to leave! Our cove cabin was simply amazing, I feel like we'll never book anyother cabin anymore, this is the best experience ever. The activities were nice, too, although on sea days I wish they started life music earlier in the day. I loved the traditional tea party with string band! The string band was great as well as the guitar duet and the brass band. The Dr.Seuss parade was a little messy and disorganized IMO but the kids liked it. I wish I knew about Behind the Scenes show - I didn't realized it even exists. Never saw a notice about it but apparently other people booked it. Also I didn't know you can change your time dining to a certain time dining. We'd prefer that because my time dining was inconvenient for us - there was always a line to get checked in and then you had to wait for 30 min on sea days to eat! It was a little crazy with 2 little kids so we only used the MDR twice. But it's ok - the buffet was good (albeit crowded at times),the pizza guy Daniel and his colleague (Forgot the name) are THE BEST! We love and miss them!!! Say hi to them from us :) We also liked the burgers and sushi, but didn't try any other special dining. We're simple :) WE used IMAX and saw 3 movies about nature there for only $5 each. Amazing experience! We did the sky ride, rope course, mini-golf, mini-bowling, The pools never seemed too crowded. Free abs and strech class in the morning was great. There was an art lecture every day, I loved that idea! But would be nice to have a port lecture too, like it was on RCI. We loved the entertainment, Matth the director was awesome, the night with the captain (and free drinks ) were fantastic and the captain himself was soooo nice! And all the shows in Liquid lounge were really good too although a little R-rated, I'd say. We didn't see comedy or magic shows, only the production. The only HUGE no-no that I absolutely hated is that there were way too many outside smoking areas and moreover - a smoking area was right next to the children playground. The smoke was literally ALWAYS on the playground. It's ridicuouls! Who could have thought of such stupid idea???? I tried to talk to the management and also complained on Carnival website. We never used the playground because of that. This is pretty much the reason I'm giving this ship a 4instead of 5. As a nurse Ican never approve of creating more smoking areas especially when children are nearby. Read Less

We traveled out of New Orleans to Cozumel, Honduras and Belize. The ship was beautiful although the dining rooms were garish with too much red used in the decorating. We had an ocean suite, and it was lovely. Loved the oversized balcony. Unfortunately, the guest in the next room used his balcony as a smoking lounge which detracted from our enjoyment. Our room steward was outstanding! The food was ok. We ate in the main dining room every evening. Unfortunately, we selected anytime dining for this trip and needed to wait many of the evenings. We will not select anytime again. The food in the dining room was good and the staff accommodated my requests. We ate breakfast in the main dining room. I did not care for the brunch menu. It was too heavy and it was the same menu everyday. The main dining room was not open for a lunch only menu and I certainly missed having a salad and sandwich for lunch. Many days we ate at the buffet. I did not care for the layout. It was difficult to find a variety without visiting multiple food lines, and the salad offerings were poor. I like lots of fresh veggies on my salad and the selection was limited. The hamburger/hot dog bar was one of the speediest I have ever encountered. The entertainment was disappointing. I am tried of the song and dance. The movies were for 12-19 year olds, and the only special activities during the day seemed to be the silly pool games and trivia. The entertainment on Carnival needs to be updated. I did enjoy Punchliners. We never saw the Cruise Director which hasn't happened on other ships. Service on the ship wasn't good. The drink waiters were few and far between. I always had to find a bar to get service. With the exception of our room steward and the waiters in the main dining room at dinner, I felt that service was poor. The staff did not appear to be happy to be on the ship. We went on shore excursions in all three ports. We loved Turtle Beach in Cozumel/Playa Del Carmen and Rendezvous Cay in Belize. We did not enjoy the snorkeling in Roatan. We will not be traveling with Carnival again. Read Less

Listen up folks. I am a long time cruiser and did cruise with Carnival one previous time. This trip was 8 nights out of NYC on the Splendor and there were 18 of us, 5 of them children. We chose Carnival because the price was right for the majority of our party but this trip has proved the reality in that saying "you get what you pay for!" Let me start by saying that we booked our trip 10 months in advance with Carnival and I had confirmed on several occasions with our "vacation planner" that we would be seated at 6pm dining altogether and worst case scenario would be that we would be at 2 round tables side by side, which we were ok with. For many of you experienced cruisers, you probably know that when you cruise with a large party you rarely see everyone during the day and often dinner is the only time you are all together, so this was extremely important to us to sit together. Fast forward to embarkation day, none of us were seated together and in fact we weren't even seated in the same dining room! I did speak to the maître d, who was rude and never once made eye contact with me who stated "there is nothing I can do". After going back a second time to him, he slid a form my way and said he could try to get us 8:15 seating together. Well he gave us that seating, but no one was happy with it. We sucked it up and took it b/c it allowed us to spend time together and break bread like we had planned but NONE of the children (ages 2-5) ate with us once because it was too late. This resulted in the parents having to spend 4 hours of their evenings feeding kids and then themselves. I subsequently went to guest services 3 times in hopes they would try and assist me in some way, but again, "there is nothing we can do for you". Nothing? Really. The food was terrible on this boat, my meals were often served to me cold and a few nights I opted to skip dinner completely b/c the cold lousy food coupled with the mediocre service I had experienced wasn't worth my time. At times, we found ourselves scouring the ship for a place offering food but often pizza was the only thing available. It was "decent" and to say we ate pizza for majority of our meals, is the unfortunate truth. But here's the thing, when I cruise on my favorite cruise line, the staff is usually falling over themselves wanting to ensure that you as their guest are enjoying yourself; knowing you by name, knowing what you drink, willing to listen if there is a problem and finding a way, no matter the cost, to fix that problem. Repeatedly on Carnival this was not the case. We were never treated as guests and felt a burden to most of the staff. A few times, when I asked a staff member where something was, I was told, "I don't know, go ask someone else." What??? It begs the question, has the automatic gratuity comprised the service once provided to cruisers? In regards to their Cheers package, all adults in the same stateroom must get it in order for one person to enjoy it. This was a problem! Not everyone drinks, or at least not excessively enough to want to spend the money on a drink package, but yet some did want it but could not get it b/c their roommate did not drink that much. Bogus. I will say with most certainty that we will never chose to sail with Carnival again and will be sure to let anyone who asks know of our experience. I will say the Camp Carnival staff was amazing, my kids had a great time and they were great with the kids and had many many activities that were truly enjoyed! Other than the camp staff and my room steward, this boat left a lot to be desired. If you are looking to cruise but need to save money by using Carnival, I would suggest you postpone your trip a little longer and keep saving and splurge a little more on the price. Trust me it's worth it. Read Less
