The Elation is an older ship with some design quirks, but still a great cruise.
First the cons:
-Strange design with the inability to travel from one side of the ship to the other without going up or down a floor.
-Small stores with limited variety of merchandise. This was my first cruise ever in which I bought nothing in the gift shops.

Although the Elation is an older ship, one could not tell from the asthetics or decor on board. 2nd cruise (1st was on Carnival Conquest out of New Orleans in 9/2013).
Noticed the following on this cruise:
1) Liked Lanai deck going around the ship, but did not like that it obstructs balcony view of the water.

We drove down to New Orleans from Canada....it was a long drive but we stopped along the way a few times in Nashville, Memphis, and Talladega before arriving in New Orleans 3 days before the cruise. We stayed at the Super 8 in New Orleans. It fit our budget and it was a nice hotel. Not 5 star, but we didn't expect that. Just a nice place to sleep and enjoy the pool after a long day of sight ...

My 25th cruise, my 6th with Carnival.
Did a 3 day pre-cruise in the Big Easy at the newer AC Marriot. Great location for the French Quarter, and virtually noise free, even though it is in close proximity to Bourbon Street. (walking distance).
About 10 dollars, (with a tip), for a quick taxi ride to the Port of New Orleans.
