We chose this cruise for our ten year anniversary trip. We liked the itinerary and the six days worked well for our schedule. We flew into Ft. Lauderdale the day prior and stayed at the Renaissance Hotel. We have stayed here before cruises in the past. It’s a nice clean hotel and is right at the entrance to the port so it’s a very short taxi ride. We left the hotel around noon and were on the ship within about 30 minutes. Smooth embarkation. We are not the type to be the first people on board the ship and I think this helps as we have not waited in lines for the last several cruises. Half Moon Cay was our favorite stop. We slept in and hopped on a tender after the crowds died down. This beach is beautiful. We found two chairs pretty easily and spent a few hours in the water. The water is crystal clear and the beach is some of the nicest sand you will find. Carnival has done a great job with this island. The one big complaint is getting back on the ship. We went back to the tender about an hour and a half before the all aboard time and found an extremely long line. We waited in line for well over an hour before getting onto a tender. I know there’s only so many tenders, but standing in the blaring sun for that long is a real downer after a great day. Carnival needs to at least put up some shades along the long path people line up on. Next stop was Amber Cove. We booked the Terracross Off-road Adventure through Carnival. Melvin our tour guide did a great job and this was an enjoyable excursion. We are experienced off-roaders and I will admit there was times it was a little annoying when stuck behind a first timer. But I knew that from reading the reviews. I give this excursion 4 out of 5 stars. One thing to note at this stop is that it didn’t seem like there was anything to walk to other than the typical cruise shops. Last port was Grand Turk. We had been to this port once in the past and was aware of the decent beach and areas right off the ship. We booked a cabana through Carnival at the Margaritaville pool. This was a nice relaxing day. The cabana was nice with cold A/C and a comfortable couch. Service was good and the food and drinks were just ok. Typical of these type of places. We had late dining, which we prefer. The only issue is that you miss most of the shows. We don’t mind as we don’t really care to go to them anyway. Our waiters were the best we’ve ever had. We absolutely loved the layout of this ship and what it had to offer. By far our favorite yet. We spent a lot of time on deck 5 and found ourselves in the Redfrog Pub often. Naomi is an amazing acoustic performer, and she is often in there performing. This cruise had an interesting crowd for some reason. We have been on several Carnival cruises and expect to see all different classes on board. This cruise was particularly low. I can’t quite figure it out. I know Carnival has no control over who pays to take their cruises. There was several occasions where my time was disturbed by disrespectful people. There was a very loud cabin above us. It sounded like they were letting their kid jump off the bed repeatedly. A couple nights this continued after midnight. Then there was a cabin two doors down from us. They partied in their cabin with loud music and numerous people several nights. I’ve never understood partying in a small balcony cabin. There is so many places on a ship that you could have completely to yourself if that’s what you’re looking for. I saw security there at least once, and that was nice to see actually. I have also never smelled so much marijuana on a cruise. We have smelled it on probably every cruise we have ever taken, but this seemed to be everywhere. Then there was the announcements. We love to sleep in on our cruises. Especially when we get the chance to leave our son at home. I don’t think sleeping until 10am is unreasonable on a vacation. For some reason the cruise director, Simon, loved to make announcements at 9am. Although they are in the hallway, they are impossible to sleep through. Carnival loves using their loudspeakers. It’s often to tell you something that 90% of the cruisers don’t care about. On night 3 or 4 we were woken by two announcements about ten minutes apart over the loudspeakers in the hallway at 4am. They were announcing a persons name and asking he call guest services. Then about fifteen minutes later they did it again two more times. This time they blasted it through the speakers in every room in the ship. I can only imagine these poor people that had kids sleeping. I understand someone was probably worried about someone, but come on Carnival. This is unacceptable. We all know the guy is passed out drunk somewhere or is in someone else’s room having fun. There was no reason for this. Overall all, I had some serious disappointments with this trip but we still had a great time. This was our 10th cruise. 8 on Carnival, 2 on Princess. We are at a point that we intend on cruising twice a year, as we did this year. Unfortunately, I need a break from Carnival. I was really looking forward to getting that platinum status in the next few years. I’m afraid my wife is set on being religious Princess cruisers after this. We shall see, perhaps we return down the road. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a well talked about and loved cruise by many on Social Media. I have cruised out of Port of Miami in the past. The embarkation was very smooth. Arrived at port early due to early transportation drop off. Was on the ship by 10:52am. Cruise director MarQ was good, but not the best I've seen. The ship was decent, could have been cleaner. The service was great in all areas except housekeeping. Major issue was the shower. There was a huge drainage issue creating a puddle whenever you showered. Everyday there were different issues, but we managed. The shows and bands were great. All other activities were just as Carnival promised FUN! Dining was great but after several cruises I am bored with The American Table Theme. I always like to try new items. Overall we had a great time. We are cruising on the Magic again In January 2020. Our first cruise was on Carnival Magic. Even though I have nothing to compare it to, it has set the standard on what I will expect. We chose this cruise because it fit in my work schedule and was a good price. With 5 in my family we were on deck 1 with an ocean view room. The room seemed small at first with all of our luggage out, but after everything was put away it fit is nicely. The steward met us shortly after to introduce himself and find out about the family. From that point on he called us all by our names. He left towel animals for us each day, which the kids loved. We ate at the steakhouse on the first night, which was great. Not many took advantage of the free bottle of wine. Service and food was great. The fun started right away, the sail away party was in full swing after the safety briefing. The CD, MarQ, was constantly full of energy and seemed like he had clones because he was all over the ship hosting events and keeping everyone smiling. The shore excursions were fun, and let us experience new things. One of ours lasted a little long and the ship waited for us to return shortly a problem. Everything on the ship was well kept, everything was always cleaned even if it seemed like it didn't. I did notice that they emptied and cleaned the pools every night. We really enjoyed the movies at night on the lido, catching at least one a night. Read Less

Got on and off the ship very quickly and with no problems. The food was AWESOME and all the staff were incredibly friendly and kind. Guys burgers, smokehouse and Mongolian wok were our favorites... out of this world good!!! Our servers in the dining room and staff that made up our room... very personable and such great people!! Our ports & excursions were a blast. Only thing that lacked was the comedy club... wasn’t as funny as we would have liked but wouldn’t defer us from sailing on this ship again. Cruise director MarQ was super nice, funny and made the cruise sooo much fun!! We had extremely beautiful weather and no rough water which made for smooth sailing throughout the whole week! I would definitely recommend this cruise ship! Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the 4 different ports and because it fell withing my birthday. I really loved amber cove because it had a pool and bar as well as activities and zip lining. I don't have much to say about st Thomas.really a bore if you don't have excursions. Puerto Rico is my culture so it was great to see San Juan as a tourist, i had some traditional Puerto rican food and piraguas. My birthday was spent at grand Turk with the most beautiful beach view of the ships, Margarita and an awesome DJ. I would def book another cruise in December because of the Christmas theme most of all. I took my 15 month old which caused me to be extremely tired by the time nightlife rolled around. There is NOTHING to do for under 2 year olds at all not even a swimming pool so I will not be cruising again until he is 2. just a heads up parents! Food was amazing and so was our steward and even for being on deck 1 everything was greatly accessible. Cruise director MarQ was amazing!!!!! Activities were all fun and family friendly. Great dining and a host of different foods. Unbelievably affordable for the 5 of us. Read Less

This cruise was a deal too good to refuse, and although our 34th cruise, only our 2nd Carnival. Bright spots: Great crew, excellent service in the cabins and dining venues, clean well-appointed cabin, and surprisingly good food with a broad menu.. BUT the ship is tired, with worn carpet, worn upholstery in lounges, peeling paint and some rust. The production show crew was only fair with 2-3 good signers and more pretty bad ones. I did not at all care for the cruise directors sarcasm before the start of each show. The Lido banquet line is ridiculous! most ships have stations to breakfast and lunch rather than long, very long lines going past every choice. Finally, hot tubs on the promenade deck 5 right outside one of the pre dinner entertainment venues created wind tunnels every time someone opened the door. Good cabin, good food, good menu, good service, but I wouldn't take it again. Read Less

Please do not buy Faster to the Fun on the Carnival ships....got on fast, room was not ready, luggage not time either. Got off the ship ok, but almost 50 minutes getting my luggage. Got stuck in a elevator also for 10 minutes before they fixed it. Also got sick on the pizza there, do not get the pizza. Had to change ports, due to trying to find a boat in distress, no problem for me on that one, but we had to go to another port not scheduled, Nassau which is not my favorite port at all. The cabin was very clean, cabin steward was great, loved my balcony room, however they must have skipped cleaning the chairs on the balcony as I had to clean them myself. I always take wipes with me and of course never forget the Lysol. Entertainment was great ! Cruise director Malcom was the best too. Went to St. Thomas, did the party boat excursion, skip this one for sure, spent more time on the water picking up people from another boat then we did at the beach and the guide did not point out only one thing, Blackbeard castle and that was it. The beach was small. Not good. Did the rain forest in Puerto Rico was WONDERFUL....I highly recommend it. Tour guide Alex was wonderful too. Read Less

Roxani Sanchez Cervantes, I Made Sudita, and Christian Salazar were our main servers. We also had Dwiputra and Joseph who were awesome. They gave us superior service and made us feel like family. Malcolm the cruise director was awesome also. I am not sure when he slept because he was always out and about. The entertainment was great! We went to the show to hear the music every night. All of the food at all of the locations was delicious. We loved sitting in our chairs on our balcony as we were sailing. We liked the map and the route we could watch on the TV with speed info. We enjoyed the shopping at our ports and especially liked walking all over San Juan, Puerto Rico to soak up some of the history there. Read Less

We chose this cruise for its destinations and liked the size ship it was. We chose a lower cabin because we had talked to people who enjoyed being closer ro the water even though the balcony view is a little restricted by the over opening in the hull around the balcony. Port of Miami: Awesome organization, no waiting in line if you checked in on line your keys were in your room. we were priority boarding at 12:00 so we walked in, went through security and directly onto the ship. Boarding: Went directly on no delays at the ship rooms weren't available until 1:45 (really 2:00) and since your room key was in the room you couldn't go early. Used boarding pass for cocktails until then. Plenty of space at bars but unfortunately they only had one football game on all the TV's at both the Casino and Red Frog Pub Bars and everyone was mad. The staff told us they are not allowed to change channels its controlled below. Cabin 2275: DO NOT ACCEPT THIS CABIN, when we got near our cabin the corridor stunk and its was coming from the cabin! When we went it it was unbearable, opened the door to the balcony to find it was worse outside. Guest services said they could not even consider charging us until after the muster drill and it was too late to get off the boat. We were charged after to a good room 2369, but why makes us so upset instead of fixing an obvious problem. Dining: check times closely they open and close promptly regardless! Food service staff were not at all service oriented. They brag about having the Guy Fieri hamburger and barbecue places. These used to be great but now they precook so much food its just dried out. The food on the buffets again is severely overcooked, restaurants OK, Pizza great as usual. My key note here is that the staff ( for the most part) just didn't care they just through the food out. Entertainment: Good but again so uncoordinated and irritating. Except the Casino Staff and bar who were all over customer service! Shore Excursions: Be early, remember if you need breakfast they won't open until exactly 7:00 even if your tour is 7:15 like we had. Get something the night before to take with you. Shops: well organized and entertaining. Departure: Get ready for aggravation due to lack of their coordination! I have never seen so many upset people and a staff that could care less. This ship has great potential, but Carnival allows the captain to establish their ships operating philosophy and in this case efficiency for the staff is their only focus, not the customers satisfaction. This is evidenced throughout the ship except in the Casino. Read Less

I was on sabbatical for the month of September and after my first cruise in April (4-day Carnival Liberty) I decided to go on a 7-day cruise on a larger ship. My mom and sister joined me and my daughter and 3 of us had a blast; one was a downer. We drove in from Atlanta the night before and unfortunately I stayed up until 6AM playing on my phone so I started our trip off tired (big mistake, never again). My mom wanted to go last minute shopping in the morning so we got to the terminal around 2pm. We had to take our luggage onboard which was a PAIN because we had sodas in tow but the upside was our room was ready when we boarded. When we boarded we thought our fridge was broken but we later learned that when they dock they power down the boat so it sometimes takes a few hours for everything to cool down again. Because we were so late getting on the taco place was closed but Guy's Burgers was open and we loved their fries. There was no line at the terminal 2pm so if you want to ensure you can get into your cabin upon arrival and have a short line, arrive at 2pm. The ship was really nice. During my early morning runs I saw the employees doing maintenance like painting, mopping, and fixing other random things. The layout of the ship was hard to get used to, the maps by the elevators were life savers, although I didn't mind the walk as I was eating every 15 minutes. Our wait staff was too nice to us and literally stuffed us full. Our head waiter was Robert from Thailand, assistant waiter was Lee from Zimbabwe, and the runner was Jason (I forgot where he was from). These guys were extra nice to us so we gave them a little extra cash tip on the last day. They were so attentive Lee knew me and a lady in the table next to us wanted an actual melting cake. All of our "melting cakes" thus far were fully cooked no lava. On the last night before he even asked for our desert orders he came over with a huge smile on his face and says "I saw these two and I said I got to have them. I don't know who they are for but I got to have them." It was so divine, and even though I was stuffed the lava was still delicious. Robert and Lee always made sure to give me an extra desert so I could take to my daughter as she always left dinner early to see the movie. The food in the dinning room was hit or miss but definitely still better than typical wedding food. I did not try any of the oddities, maybe next time. Guys Burgers had really good fries. They taste homemade from real potatoes. I don't eat beef so I did not have any burgers but I did ask for cheese on my fries and they always obliged. Every night before bed I got a specialty pizza. By the end of the cruise the guy remembered me and my order, number 4 no Gorgonzola add mushrooms. Put some salt, pepper, Parmesan cheese and oregano on that baby and it is delish. Guy's BBQ place is meh. What ruined it for me was the Velveeta mac n cheese. Seriously soft cheese in your mac is for toddlers. The greens were good and the chicken was also cooked well and I liked all of the sauces. The sweets station was also meh. How can something so pretty be so flavorless. Oh and I have to give a WARNING the sausage in the buffet is pork not chicken. The taco place serves chicken sausage as well as the main dinning. In the mornings the employees sing and dance through out the whole buffet area, that was a nice touch. They also walk around and serve you drinks. OH also they serve different drinks in the AM verses PM, the Guava juice is only served in the AM so fill up while you can! The lines for all of the foods were reasonable given the number of people. I never waited long for Guys Burgers, the pizza place had its busy hours and if you have a brain you can figure it out pretty quickly when to and when not to go and Guys Pig and Anchor is only open on sea days and the line was long but not unreasonably, they kept it moving. The cruiser director Cookie was AWESOME! He was so nice and attentive. Super funny guy. My only compliant is he didn't talk as much as Donkey over the loud speaker so I missed a number of activities like the Chocolate Buffet. I saw 2 of the 5 shows. The country show was really well done and Flick was... lets just say... interesting. I also participated in the Clue Mystery which was really fun. I went to most of the comedy shows. The adult shows did get full but sometimes they allowed us in and we had to stand. The Spot Light Lounge was FREEZING. Like extra cold. The movie selection was really good for the dive-in; my only complaint is they start the movie before the sun went down so it was hard to see. Vibe club was very nice and the DJ was dope. The kids club surprisingly had a fair amount of kids in attendance even though it was September. The service on the boat was AMAZING. I was greeted most of the time when walking by any employee. The hotel service desk was responsive. We were just blown away at the customer service we received. Just hands down amazing. I will say the spa employees kept to themselves unless they were soliciting. I was in the gym every day and found it odd that everywhere else on the boat the employees were happy and helpful but not in the spa/gym. We went to Cozumel - We did the chocolate factory tour. The tour it self was educational but the chocolate we made was yucky. The chocolate spa kit I bought is amazing. I smell like chocolate all day. I recommend this tour Belize - We did the city tour and rum tasting - It was kinda lame. I would recommend taking a taxi to the shops inside the city and walk up and down the street to shop with the locals. However this tour I would not recommend. Roatan - We did zip lining here instead of snorkeling and loved it. I went upside down. Our guides were super cool and very nice. The only thing I don't like is that we had to tip. I feel like companies should charge a price that enables them to pay their employees adequately. I don't want to walk away from an experience thinking the person who served me is not going to be able to feed his family that night because I forgot cash. This whole tipping situation really needs to stop. It is unfair to the hard working employees. I recommend this tour. Costa Maya - We were only here until 1pm so we didn't have an excursion. The port is setup very nice. They have a pool with swim up bar and a bird sanctuary. I loved this cruise and want to encourage everyone to pre-pay your gratuities and DO NOT reverse them at the end. Those tips go to every service person on board. The person cleaning the bathrooms and vacuuming the floors. There are plenty of behind the scenes employees who also get a piece of the gratuities. So don't be a jerk, just pay the tip. If you received bad service let the hotel director know or let Carnival know when you complete the survey. Read Less

We did a back to back Cruise leaving on 4th Aug If long queues for food, overcrowded swimming pools, woeful organisation, rude staff, and constant sales pitches are you thing, then carnival magic is for you Let’s start with food.... the minimum amount of time we’ve had to wait in line for the breakfast buffet was 30 minutes. Yes 30 minutes for a lousy piece of bacon and undercooked sausage. This is solely down to the woeful organisation and layout of the food selection. (I.e only one dish of bacon, pancakes out at a time meaning waits every time they are replenished). Other far bigger ships manage the buffet sections with far greater efficiency, and when fed back to the buffet supervisor, the standard carnival ‘we don’t give a crap’ response was given. The seated restaurants are much better however stop serving breakfast at 10am meaning you have a choice between decent food and a lay in. When evening food has been served in the restaurants, the quality of service has been average at best. I believe this is largely down to the mandatory gratuity scheme that carnival run ...( in other words passengers tips that are automatically charged to their cabins are used to subsidise their lousy wages) meaning the restaurant staff effectively have no incentive to offer the fantastic service we have experienced with other cruise lines. On three occasions bread was not been served until the main course, and on a further four occasions we had to sent food back due to it arriving at our table cold. On the ‘formal’ nights, and I use the word formal very loosely the seated restaurants are also chaotic (the restaurants still allow those in beachwear to sit alongside those who followed the dress code). On both occasions we were given a buzzer and informed there was a 40 minute wait .... again this is clearly a ploy to drive people to the bar / casino. When we were finally permitted to enter the restaurant, it was 50% empty with numerous tables sitting empty. We counted 10 tables in our vicinity that were empty for 15 minutes despite the huge queues outside..... again this is down to pure and simple woeful organisation. After flagging this to management a simple nonchalant shrug was given with clearly no desire whatsoever for things to neither change nor improve. Moving on to the ship.... like most big cruise ships, it is adequately equipped with many facilities and the cabin comfort and size was comparable with other cruise lines. What isn’t compatible however is the sheer volume of passengers carnival have dumped into on place at one time. There are literally queues for everything, not just the food queues mentioned above, but everything.... shows, bingo, toilets, you name it, there’s a queue. Beyond this, for some inexplicable reason, there are only 2 swimming pools on board. Yes there are hot tubs, and there are the water slides, but if laying by the pool and dipping in to cool down is your thing, then The Carnival Magic is not for you. The pools are both very small and throughout the day are literally standing room only.... in fact that is an understatement, you are more like a tin of sardines standing shoulder to shoulder with other guests due to their being nowhere to move. Other similar sized ships have 4 or 5 pools which are much more adequate Grand Turk - given the short pier at Grand Turk, only one small gangway was available at the front of the ship... No bright spark at carnival had foreseen that up to 6000 people exiting the boat at the same time down one single staircase might not be the best idea. . cue absolute chaos and downright dangerous activity. For 40 minutes we were wedged in on a staircase from all angles, children were crying, the elderly had no place to rest, and even myself as a fit young male struggled to breath at times. People got very heated at the officers waiting at the gangway, only to once again be greeted by the standard nonchalant carnival shrug. Escalations - thorough the trip, we raised several bits of feedback with ‘management’, eventually going to the front desk. Lloyd in the northern lights restaurant was useless, the chap in the Lido buffet no better. As for Joseph from Haiti on the front desk, it would’ve been more helpful to have spoken to a dog. Our case eventually got escalated to Joseph Ballesteros a ‘supervisor’ who promised to resolve our issue and update us accordingly. If you count doing precisely nothing as resolution, then he did a tremendous job. 48 hours after being promised a response, we still hadn’t heard a thing meaning we then had to once again chase up the useless front desk. Eventually we spoke to Ana one of the managers at guest services who was somewhat more helpful. Despite this we were promised a letter with a case number so that we could pick up our issues when we got back home. Naturally in true Carnival fashion this didn’t arrive ... we then had to queue for over 90 minutes to talk to Guest Services (we’d given up calling after spending 60 minutes on hold) Other points; The constant ‘ding ding’ announcements..... these just get incredibly annoying especially given that on most places on the ship you have absolutely no idea what the person is saying. 99% of the time these are just a lame sales pitch. The casino - several of the ‘grabbing’ machines were not replenished between cruises giving the false impression that prizes had actually been won that voyage. (Ie slots for $2500 were left empty suggesting the prize had been won). At best this is misleading, at worst, downright fraudulent. Lemonade dispensers - it’s amazing how the ‘pressure keeps going’ on the free dispensers, but there’s no such issues with the paid for drinks. Tour in Belize - turned up at 9:30 as stated. We were told to be seated until tour was called. We waited 15 minutes and were then told the tour had been already called prior to us arriving. This resulted in us arriving late to the tour and nearly missing the coach. Smoking - whilst I appreciate the need for certain smoking areas, it is incomprehensible for this to be permitted inside the ship like in the Casino. As an asthmatic, I find this deeply off putting and grossly offensive. 90 minute queue to speak to guest services on the final sea day... but only 3 out of the 5 counters were manned. Was assured a response to the complaint via letter but still not received - so far been stuck in the call queue for over an hour as the queue for the reception desk is still around 90 minutes! Woken up by hoovering on 3 occasions after midnight Disembarkation a farce. Guest services had told us coach was at 9:30 to the airport so we organised early disembarkation luggage tags which stated disembarkation between 8:15 and 9am. Got to 9:40 before our tags were even called to disembark, but by this point we had been informed that the airport coaches are ongoing meaning that once again, incorrect info had been given by guest services. In summary - you’d get better Customer Service in prison than you do on the Carnival Magic. Even when things go wrong there is absolutely 0 appetite to put things right. The fact the queue for Guest Services was 90 minutes throughout the final day absolutely exemplify the apathy in which Carnival treat their customers. Never ever again will I be stepping on a Carnival ship. And now for the good points; The Cruise Director Cookie is excellent and an excellent host. Sadly the rest of the ‘fun squad’ are not so excellent. In fact I’ve seen better hosts at McDonalds. The Shows have been good and some really great talent on show from the theatre productions. The comedy club was excellent, and Manny oliviera in particular was hilarious. The host on the other hand was woeful and clearly way out of her depth at this level. The ports of call were excellent and all beautiful in their own unique way. Read Less

We had 2 shore excursions and we enjoyed each and every one of them. We will definitely recommend this cruise to anyone. Read Less

Great atmosphere and balance for the whole family! Boarding and disembarking went very smoothly. Carnival Magic was always kept clean at all times. Along with being efficient cleaners, the housekeepers were friendly and welcoming during the entire stay. Great food was provided 24/7. The overall service was organized and very efficient. Each and every member of the crew was very kind and kept a smile on our faces. My husband and I traveled with our two children, which are 16 and 20 years old. They both loved the ship’s entertainment and activities. Every crew member was kind, helpful and always seem to have a smile on their face. Food was great and endless supply of ice cream/frozen yogurt was over the top. We look forward to cruising with Carnival again next summer. Just to reiterate, our vacation was AMAZING because of the fantastic crew....from the Captain to housekeeping and everyone in between!!! Read Less

We choose this cruise because our first carnival freedom cruise was awesome...but this one was different. The paid WiFi did not work at all, the food was ok, but the sides were not hot at all! What happened to Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, good yeast rolls, sweet potatoes, asparagus, and the list goes on!?! The meats were very good, just didn’t have good things to go with them..and a lot of people agree with me! And last the unwanted gratuity...like me and my wife being charged for 60 bucks worth of tips for a couples message!?! Really!? After paying 100 a piece!?! Whoe! Just whoe! I think we may try royal Carribean next time. Oh and another one! We were suppose to get a cruise credit for getting this cruise wayyyyy in advance, and when we asked for it at the desk, they said it was cancelled because we “upgraded” and spent more money.....how does that happen I’ll never know!?! We had a really great time on our recent cruise. I'm sure I'll miss a lot of things, but in my review I hope to highlight the main highlights and the few lowlights. The highlights: 1. Our room. We were in 12011, a spa-level balcony room. The room was nice and clean (many thanks to our most excellent room steward Kristian). We enjoyed being surrounded by the quiet spa activities. Absolutely no unwelcome noises. It was also really nice to be able to use the sauna, hot tub, gym, and large showers right around the corner. The latter help to make the evening dinner prep most efficient with easy access to another shower. 2. Cruise director. Jonathan "Cookie" Adams was an amazing host. Funny, warm, well-spoken, and, in the couple of instances where we interacted with him in a more private setting, he came across as a top-notch human being. He is the total package. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Hollywood some day soon. If you're choosing between two cruises and one of them has Cookie as the CD, go with Cookie! The other member of the Fun Squad (i.e., entertainment staff) were really good too. 3. Southern Lights Dining room. We really enjoyed our regular 8:15PM dinner. Our waiters I Made, Jenkins, and I Putu were amazing... Hard-working, courteous and prompt. The maître d, "007" (the guy legit called himself "007"), couldn't have done a better job. 4. Tacos and Burgers. The tacos and burgers on the Lido deck in the afternoon were really good. I wish they alter the hours of the tacos a little so that we would have had more chances to get them on days when we were at port. 5. Alchemy Bar & Cheers Package. The rate for the Cheers package was $52 per person per day. It included up to 15 alcoholic beverages and unlimited non-alcoholic beverages (sodas, coffee, water, etc). The Alchemy Bar served up amazing cocktails @ $11 each. So if you think you can take down 5 per day, then the Cheers package is a good idea. Shout out to the Alchemy Bar staff (Nathan, Raunak, Natalya & Ivan) - awesome job and hope to see you guys again. 6. Overall cleanliness and appeal of the ship. Imagine 4,000+ people having a week-long party at your house. Man, if that happened at my house, then I'd just take a bulldozer to it because it would be ruined forever. Well, Magic... Not like that at all. The crew work like ninjas all the time to keep it nice and clean so that the party can go on without a hitch. 7. Room service. Being able to request fresh coffee and a little food to be delivered (at no additional cost) every morning was clutch. The lowlights: 1. Cucina del Capitano. We paid extra to eat at the Italian restaurant on our last night. Mistake. The entire restaurant had an awful vibration, presumably due to its location on the ship, and the food was not as good as the Southern Lights dining room. 2. Waterfalls of Damajagua in the Dominican Republic. We think they waaaaay overbooked that excursion because we spent about a quarter or our time in line at the top of the hill waiting in line to get into the water. This excursion would have been great if we got what we paid for. 3. Dearth of pools and hot tubs. We felt like there should be another pool on the ship. All of the pools were always full of kids. It would have been nice to have another one for adults in the serenity area. Friends of ours had a room on the sixth floor (#6338) and didn't like that the hot tub on the fifth floor right under their balcony was usually full of noisy people. Read Less

Between my husband and I we have 11 cruises under our belts. We were so excited to set sail on the Magic, we booked our vacation 5 months in advance and counted down the days for months. This would be our first cruise with our kids. But... We were highly disappointed! We had the worst Cruise Director EVER! He was loud, obnoxious, not professional and a little on the not kid friendly side. The entertainment was ridiculously horrible (very little options) unless you want to see the same comedy shows 5x. We have gone on other cruises where there are so many options you cant fit it all in! We were shocked at how small everything felt. The description talks about how big the ship is, but it does not feel it. And There was next to nothing to do past 10pm. (For parents whose kids begged to stay for the kids activities... that sucks! We just stayed on our room.) The buffet line says it closes at 10pm (which is early) but they would start breaking it down at 9pm. The pizza line was always 20 plus minutes and they got an attitude of you asked for more then 2 slices. I have never seen pool water so dirty on any cruise, you could not even see the dolphin at the bottom of the pool!!! Needless to say, we took a lot of naps! Way better off to go on an older Royal Caribbean ship again! On the plus side, I did get the BEST PICTURES! They were so good we bought the digital flash drive and got 50 prints! But, the back drops were so spread out, on 3 different floors and not ONE person was able to direct you in the direction they were. We had to hunt for them. And on.formal night, we had no idea the "formal back drops were on a different floor." So we have a ship with fire works as our back ground while wearing a suit and evening ball gowns. They definitely need signs! And the food we did eat was the Best of any cruise, it had great flavor! The service was not the greatest but the food was good. We did an excursion in Honduras called Little French Key, it's not through Carnival but it was The HIGHLIGHT of our trip. Our greatest memories were made there. Over all we were very disappointed! We took our first cruise last year for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and had a good time (Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, VI, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Grand Turk) so we decided to do it again this year! What a BLAST! We really explored the ship this time and took advantage of going to the Comedy Club, singing karaoke, couples therapy, Clue (the mystery who did it) and going to the Lip Sync contest. There were other things as well. The staff was great, the food was delicious and the Ports of Call were unbelievable (Costa Maya, Mahagony Bay, Belize and Cozumel). It rained all day in Cozumel BUT we still had a great time at the Port. We're not big on dressing up while on vacation but maybe next year we'll add that to our plans and join the rest of the crowd for elegant night. I'm already planning next year's trip Perhaps Aruba! Carnival's new policy of not letting you bring a drink into the back pool was terrible. It was okay for a family to have their baby have a crapped in diaper, but we can't have a beer in the pool??? WTH? Now that kids are allowed in the back pool, there was a constant barrage of shrieks from kids screaming at the top of their lungs. With each screech you could look at the faces of people trying to relax, and their reaction was the same as if someone was dragging their nails across a blackboard. This was when the middle pool wasn't crowded, just people wanting to be in the back pool. Also, no cool music at the back pool, just some low rent jazz. Also, the entire casino was smoking allowed. For the first cruise ever, I didn't play a single game in the casino. This also wafted into the areas in the atrium, so Carnival isn't worried about poisoning their customers. Food was better than on previous cruises, but we were never able to get a second portion like on all of our previous Carnival cruises. Read Less

We have been on the Magic 4 times and also have cruised on other Carnival ships multiple times and we believe the Magic (and all the Dream Class) are the best they offer. Certainly better than the only slightly large Vista class. Embarkation at Port Canaveral is always a smooth process. We live here so that helps, but the employees are helpful and friendly and the process is always smooth. The Ship itself is the perfect size, similar to all of Carnival ships, so if you have been others learning this one is not so difficult. Carnival food is in out opinion always mediocre at best , if we cruised on Carnival for food, we would pass. (and often do and go Princess ) Its rare we eat in the MDR more than once or twice per cruise, preferring Steak house and Italian along with Lido. NO sports Bar,m its sort of combined with the Casino Bar, bit of a let down for sports fans, but the casino is big and well laid out. Entertainment, if you sail with carnival often you have seen it all, if not its treat, they do a very good job, but the shows do not change often, so keep that in mind. Ports are ports, seen one seen them all. Embark and debark at port is always smooth Read Less

We had cruised Carnival in the past with much enjoyment. We looked forward to cruising with them again but were disappointed on a few aspects of our trip. First in regards to the ship, the Carnival Magic is a huge ship that seems over crowded no matter where you go. The show theater is small and the lounge is always standing room only. They had great entertainment but you had to arrive an hour early just to get a seat. There are long lines at the buffet and some of the cooler outside cafes like the BBQ place were only open twice during the entire 7 day cruise. We had a balcony cabin which I felt was very nice. We were one deck below the pool deck but I was surprised at how quiet it actually was. The cabin staff as usual were great. The refrigerator never really got cold but I wondered if it was on the same automatic electrical system as the lights in the room. (requires key card to remain on.) This ship should be advertised as a smoking ship. The casino is soaked in smoke and stale smoke smells. It reeks down the halls into the Piano bar, the pastry bar and another lounge. There are smoking areas on deck that the smoke travels a long way away from the area. It is a horrible ship in regards to the smoking and the smells. There are only 2 pools on the ship. A ship this size should have more pools. There are 2 sea days and there are no where near enough areas to sit in the sun. There are many umbrellas and covered areas for shade however. I also used the gym which I thought was quite nice for this ship. As for the ports, Carnival has there greedy claws into at least two of them. In Honduras they own or operate an area called Mahogany Bay. Everything from chairs to towels are for rent. There were two ships in an area designed for a very few people. The first Carnival ship arrived an hour before we did and took every chair on the beach. It was wall to wall people in the little port area. Fortunately we had an excursion that got us away from that. Costa Maya is the same. A tiny "built for the cruise" location that made you feel like you were at the Epicot Mexico exhibit. Although this is not my last Carnival cruise, I will be more attentive to the ship and it's reviews as well as the ports of call. The ship owned locations takes away from the experience of visiting foreign lands. Read Less

I was initially hesitant to cruise carnival during spring break, but since my brother and his kids would be with us, we chose a kid friendly ship. I have seen some negative reviews on the Magic and wonder what ship those people were on, because I found the Magic to be great! The crew was friendly, the cruise director entertaining and the ship was always being cleaned, although level 5 smelled of smoke from the casino and bars, it would be great if they could control this somehow, I avoided that level as much as I could. It was so easy and pain free to get on the first day The food was also great, I have cruised many other lines and never really cared for the meals on some lines, some had great meals soso deserts, others great deserts and soso meals, the Magic had great meals for both. The chocolate extravaganza was loved by the kids as was 24 hour ice cream and pizza. I wish I had realized there was a laundry on board that was self service as well, I could have packed less. Food; The pizza was great, Guy's burgers was tasty too. The bbq was good but only open on sea days and the line was insane. It was good but not worth the wait for me when there were so many other choices (hot dog cart was neat). I never made it to the Mongolian wok or Tandoor. There were too many choices at lunch. Dinner menu was varied and I planned to skip desert and be healthy, that all ended on day two. The wait staff in Northern lights was incredible, Joven, Kanda and Migi were the best and very attentive to the 3 kids in our group of 8. We switched sets each night and they always knew our individual preferences and likes. Their recommendations were spot on. Wish their wee more tropical fruit choices, maybe we were out of season. Rooms; Lots of storage, was very pleasantly surprised, the cabin stewart did new towel animals each night, chatted up the day and cleaned well, thanks Ni Lui. Also very quiet, a few nights the kids were running about, but did not last long. Ship; Loved the dedicated comedy club and the Serentiy adults only area with loungers and bar. The Shows were not bad, I attended a few. Loved the movies nightly on the big screen over the pool. The elevators were slow, there were plenty but so many people taking them one floor, it was easier to walk most days. The app was nice, but the text was probably not needed if it had just been me and hubby and not family too. I wish there had been more specials for picture purchasing, ;like they don't print them unless you pay for that. Less waste, but often pictured of others who were not even on our ship popped up in my feed, so their app needs some work. The trip was a 10 except for two things; disembarking, I was in the first group after those carrying own luggage and still managed to have one of my suitcases dissapear! There is no checking of luggage people take out and a careless person can just walk off with your stuff. I am not sure what they can do to fix that, but I can never get back things in that bag if it does not ever turn up. I only wanted one thing on this cruise as a souvenir and it was in that suitcase, so lesson learned for future cruises, I will carry my luggage off and not worry about all that luggage hanging out in public areas while waiting to get the go ahead to get off the ship.We went through all luggage and it was no where to be found, by then the line for customs was crazy and we waited forever to get out after we filled out a claim. Second is liquor, on other ships we got it our purchases the night before and we could pack it in checked luggage then. We had to go morning of disembarking and repack luggage after getting off to make sure it was padded well. That was inconvenient. Not a deal breaker was the kids roaming free disturbing others, it may be a vacation for the parents, but others should not have to listen to or deal with rude wild kids, because some parents are clueless. It comes with the spring break timing and it seemed to be the same handful of kids, so it does not detract from this vacation enjoyment. I can't wait to take this cruise ship again, just going to carry off anything I care not to lose! Read Less

Overall, the Carnival Magic was average. The ship is dated. The ship reeked of cigarettes public areas. Smoking areas were in prime locations such as deck above the pool with lounge chairs and umbrellas. The ship really needs to update the internet. We cancelled our Value plan since it would download emails after two days attempt. Carnival should take the Muster presentation much more seriously. The presentation was disorganized and rushed. Crew - Friendly and worked hard. Better if they spoke more English. Dining - The same food served at dining rooms as the buffet. Lots of choices at the buffet, long lines. Average quality. Great alternatives - pizza place, Indian food, burger joint and the smokehouse. If you are a foodie, this ship is NOT for you. Entertainment - something every night. There were some free gym classes. The stretching and abs instructor (Alexandra) was amazing! The mini-golf, jungle gym zip line was great! Ports and excursions - we booked private tours. There was a time zone change at the Belize port, we ended up missing the excursion due to mix up of time zones. The ship could have announced to guests that "ship" time was what's important. Would pay more for better ship, entertainment and quality of food. Read Less

One of their ships we haven't been on and close to home...been on sister ships. This was I believe our 27th on a Carnival cruise ship. This was our 54th cruise...Food was very good...had lobster twice on a 7 night cruise! Great attentive dining server who ALWAYS addressed us by name..something I think Carnival exceeds expectations! We have been on a 16 night transatlantic cruise, same dining table nightly, and never...did our waiter call us by name or even pull out the dining chair! And...surprisingly, never had lobster once! And it is considered an upscale cruise line! Carnival has many places to have something to eat without any extra charges. Although, we think their steak houses are the best at sea...Always an enjoyable delicious dinner..well worth the small up charge...Generally it is 2 to 1 1/2 hrs dining experience. Outstanding service, as usual.. I always shutter when people make derogatory remarks about Carnival,,We travel on several different cruise lines...I will say...Carnival's dress code has declined to NCL'S dress code. Too bad...
