Having cruised multiple times on Royal C, Disney, and Celebrity we were accustomed to a certain level of service and quality. We chose this cruise solely on the fact the itinerary worked with everyone in our travel party's schedule. Embarkment- was easy enough-the employees seemed very stressed and not eager to answer basic questions. We figured things out on our own. Upon entering the ship we were underwhelmed to say the least. The ship is very run down and in need of a major renovation. The staff were pleasant enough however they paled in comparison to the other cruise lines. Cabin-We had a balcony cabin. Unfortunately, the balcony door was not sealed properly and made a terrible whistling sound when closed and locked. I called Guest Service's to have fixed multiple times and it never was. Only went on the balcony a few times because it overlooked a hot tub. Not exactly the view we were expecting. The room had ample storage, the bed and pillows were surprisingly comfortable. The cabins are not insulated for noise reduction. You can hear EVERYTHING. Food-Not a lot of healthy options. The Lido Marketplace never had food labeled correctly which unfortunately caused an allergic reaction with one of the individuals we were traveling with. She had to use her epic pen and was quiet sick. Dinning room menu was blah at best. Guys burger and the pizza place were yummy. The other places, not so much. I actually lost weight on this cruise. That never happens! If you are a coffee drinker, you will be really disappointed. The coffee was disgusting in the restaurants. You definitely have to get coffee on deck 5 at the coffee cafe. This was included in our cheers package. If not, you will pay roughly $5 for specialty coffee. The lines were long but the staff was friendly. Wifi-DON'T BOTHER!!! Absolutely awful. Nothing more I can say. Staff-It appeared the staff were over worked and there were not enough employees. They were busting their bums all day long. It took a toll on several of them which translated into poor service and being rude to many guests. My biggest issue is the lack of consistency. I asked a question about disembarkment and shared what I was told with our travel party. 3 other individuals in our group apparently asked the same question and got 3 different answers. We all went to Guest Services to clarify and then got another completely different answer. It was very frustrating. All companies can improve training and communication. Carnival needs to make this a priority. Cheers Package-Bar and wait staff under staffed. Had to wait consistently 20-25 mins for a drink. Lines long, no consistency the way drinks were made. Some of the staff were wonderful and other definitely did not like their jobs. Pools and chairs-On sea days plan to get to your seat by 6:30am even though the pool doesn't open until 8:00am. I observed at least 15 different arguments over chairs. People would reserve their chairs at 6:30am with a towel and not show back up until 12:00pm. The Carnival staff was not consistent in tagging chairs for situations like this. This caused a lot of commotion among the guests. Activities-I always heard Carnival cruises had a lot of fun activities. I was really disappointed because this cruise did not. Several prior Carnival cruisers commented that this ships "Fun Squad" was the worst they had experienced on Carnival. I will say the DJ was FANTASTIC. The High C's and the Shredders were absolutely amazing. Every time they played we were there! We still found plenty to do but there was nothing memorable about the activities. Therma Spa-In theory it sounded great. Reality it was a HUGE waste of money. The spa staff were more interested in talking to each other than monitoring what was happening in the spa. We went a various days and times and it was always too crowded. It didn't matter if it was 10:00am, 12:00pm, 3:30pm, or 9:00pm. Lots of guests were complaining about the same thing. After day 4 we just gave up going and we bought an 8 day pass. 3 of the heated chairs were broken. When you finally could get a chair, the spa staff were constantly bringing tours in to sell the service, It was not relaxing like we thought it would be. I think with some tweaks, it could be a great service but the way it is run now, save your money. We loved that Carnival provided blankets for their Dive In movie nights. This was a nice extra that was unexpected but really appreciated. Even with all of the negatives, we had a good time. We met some lovely people, had a great time on the different islands and soaked up some sun. Will we travel on Carnival again? Not unless they get newer or renovated ships, have consistency with staff training, and improve the food significantly. Read Less

Passengers were kept lined up outside the entrance. Loyalty Program Protocols were ignored at the time of embarking and by Guest Services. Ports staff were very rude, as they attempt to keep people in line while blocking people who claimed to have special privileges based on Loyalty Program of the Cruise Line. Guest Services staff, seems to be unable to deal with issues related to Loyalty Program protocols. They have four staff people (during rush time) for Blue, Red and Gold passengers; and only One Staff person to handle Platinum, Diamond and Rush to Fun (who are mostly inexperienced cruisers with lots of questions and problems. Holding that line for long period of times. Toilets malfunction in our stateroom for day one. Finally we had a flooded bathroom. Corridors were dirty. Food -same one-as in every ship. Salads were stales and moldy. Embarkation as disembarkation (it happened again) was a nightmare. Felt like corralled cattle by the elevators. Wonder why we continue to booked with them. Well, not every ship is the same. Just bad luck this time. Bazinga! Read Less

My sister cruised aboard the Carnival Magic from September 22-28. As this was our first cruise we were excited; however, Carnival stamped out that excitement real quick! Carnival does a real good job of letting passengers know their money, not their experience, is what matters most. If we could get our money back we would! CONS 1.A lack of decent water. The water available for free from the drink fountains and restaurants tasted horrible, like old ocean water (not exaggerating). It was UNdrinkable. In order to get drinkable water you had to purchase it. From room service it was $4.40 for a large bottle (what we can get for a $1-$1.25 here!). 16oz bottles were 1.25 IF purchased from the ship coffee shop. 2.They sold everything they knew people would need or want (going ashore? Here’s some cold water for a price! Want something hot from room service? Here are a half-handful for a price, got a headache? Here’s some aspirine for a price etc…) 3.They push alcohol like IT is water. There were workers walking around constantly asking if we wanted these alcoholic beverages. We constantly told them no. Couldn’t eat in peace for them. At one point my sister told one who wouldn’t take no for an answer not to come around asking us again. It truly felt like the workers were pressured to sell these drinks; the look of disappointment, or sheer annoyance on their faces when you wouldn’t take the bait was truly off-putting. {The same can be said for the spa workers; it got so annoying having them shove flyers at us for their over-priced services. And the attitude of some of them was not quite the turn off. I believe they are also pressured to make sales, and that is sad.} 4.Every fountain had bad lemonade; that is all they had to drink with lunch or dinner. It was not fresh made so it was very strong and artificial tasting; not good at all. Only In the mornings could you get orange juice cocktail or a Guava juice drink (this was actually the best juice offered). If you wanted a soda you had to be ready to fork over $3 bucks a can (that’s right, 12 ounce cans). I’ve included a picture of the toddler cups – the ONLY cups they had for the fountain drink. 5.Mediocre food: The Lido buffet was nothing at all to write home about, and the lines were so long that by the time you got your food and sat down it was cold. Also, I am allergic to seafood and the way they had the food organized at the buffet I often could not eat it due to saucy seafood being passed over the non-seafood items, or possible utensil mixing because everything was so close. The best places were Guy’s Burger Joint and the Deli. Guy’s Pig and Anchor Bar was ok to (this and the burger joint were closed at 6 or 2:30 respectively). The Ship Dining rooms (Southern Lights and Northern Lights Restaurants) were okay. Service was quite slow so, again, lukewarm to cold food. The restaurants did not handle the crowds well at all. The waiters, though nice, were overwhelmed and provided service that failed to impress. And at these restaurants, though free, were the same bad water and bad lemonade – unless you wanted to pay for soda or alcoholic beverages. The food was so disappointing that we opted out of our planned steak house dinner; we weren't impressed enough to take a chance paying $38 each just to be disatisfied. 6.Ship not clean: A. The ship carried an odor, especially in the hallways where the staterooms were. Oftentimes it smelled like sewage. If you have never smelled that before, take my word for it- it stinks! The smell really caused some of us to wonder what was going on with the workings of the ship. B. The carpets need serious cleaning. We kept socks on our feet when in our room, but we were shocked at how dirty the bottoms of our socks got and so quickly! I forgot to take a picture of them, but they were just shameful! I saw some people walking around with barefeet...not a good idea. C. The windows were filthy. You couldn’t really take good pictures from the windows because they were in such need of scrubbing (see pics). This was not 1 trips worth of grime; it has clearly been a while since they washed those windows. 7.Old Bedding: Carnival obviously tries to keep bedding until forced to replace. Our sheets were old and had pill-balls on them (see pic). 8.Rude, disorganized, unclean room service: The room service order takers were rude. There was a charge to order hot foods from room service. You could only get cold sandwiches for free from room service until 10pm. After that everything cost you. Cleanliness was questionable. They replaced our ice one evening, and I am so glad we didn’t use it. The container was mildewed (see pics)!!! We didn’t see it till the next morning after ice had melted. We could not eat/drink as comfortably after this. 9.A hassle filled vacation: getting off the ship at Half Moon Cay,the first stop, was so disorganized. Extremely long line waiting for a “ticket” (which they ran out of) to get off the ship. The whole set up made no sense whatsoever. The first stop at Half Moon Cay left a lot to be desired; there wasn’t much to see or do, but of course there was plenty of alcohol to buy! 10.The Medical Facility was hardly, if ever, open. My sister needed some help and was directed there. They were closed. They were closed the next morning/day etc. We never saw them open! She ended up just getting Tylenol from Room service, for which they charged her $1 per pill. 11.The rooms do not fully match the description/images on their website. The pictures are taken deceptively. They are not as roomy as they appear for “suites.” The beds are smaller than twin size. 12. The cigarette smoke practically permeated all of deck 5. The most comfortable seating on the outside decks were in smoking sections. So if you don't smoke or cannot take the smoke due to say, asthma for example, it could be a little difficult finding a perfectly comfortable spot to sit. 13. The serenity area of Deck 15 was just okay. The elevator was not always on, meaning a pretty good walk up from deck 10 (If I remember right). It is also next to the water slide area, only separated by a little divider. So if you are sitting outside in the serenity area of deck 15 then it is not always that serene, as you can hear the water, yells, and laughter from "water park guests" a few short feet away. PROS Our steward was nice and kind to us. The majority of the ship’s staff was nice. I had a good cheesecake from the coffee shop, and the price wasn’t too shabby. The coffee shop also had almond milk or soy milk for those who are allergic to dairy; that option, to my knowledge, was not available elsewhere aboard ship. The positives of the trip really had nothing to do with Carnival. The scenery was the best thing of the trip, that and watching the water. The stops had beautiful scenery, and Amber Cove was the best port of the 3 stops we made. **I cannot and do not recommend anyone cruise with Carnival. My sister doesn’t even want to take another cruise (period!) after this experience with Carnival. Many of our fellow travelers said it was the worst cruise they had ever been on. They kept singing the praises of Norwegian. So if I ever cruise again it will be with Norwegian, but never ever again will I go anywhere on any Carnival ship! They should be ashamed of themselves! My husband and I cruised royal Caribbean in the past and after finding their staff rude and condescending Carnival seemed like the logical choice when we were looking for a cruise line to take our kids on for our family vacation. So first let down was during embarkation, going through security my husband who is a former active marine gets stopped because he has an hollow bullet bottle opener on his keys. A gift I bought him because it was a bullet fired in Iraq during a former tour that had been custom made. Keep in mind this is hollow with a tip so dull even if it was fired it would bounce off its Target. I might be able to overlook this if we had not made it through security with a wine bottle opener that not only had a stainless steel corkscrew on it but also a 2 inch straight blade. So please tell me what the more dangerous thing ? So thanks for the appreciation for your veterans service. The towel policy is completely assanine , while most ships have crates of white towels for you to take from, Carnival makes you sign out every towel you take with your folio number , which is yet another 4 digit number for you to remember on top of your room number. AND ! If you are in a room that is ajoined to another room don't think you can check out and return towels to your ajoining room account where say your husband and 2 kids are assigned , no no no , your folio number only , doesn't matter your one big happy family , keep track of everything you sign out or prepare to be harrassed . But THE CHERRY ON TOP of everything had to be ..... Carnival makes it super nice and convenient to pre pay for things. Which we did with everything we possibly could ! Paid for the rooms in full ... Obviously that's required but we also paid our gratuities in full , paid for our excursions in full , all 4 of our kids bubbles packages as well as my husband's cheers package . We also placed a $15 limit on each of our children's sign and sail cards to visit the arcade or the candy shop or whatever they chose to do while enjoying their time on the ship. So the kids go to the arcade and spend their money and two days later my husband and I go to the arcade with them to play and everyone's cards are declined , so we proceed to guest services to see what's going on and much to our surprise our children have racked up somewhere around $600 worth of an arcade tab. So we ask what happened to the $15 limits and carnivals guest service response ? Why didn't you come to the service counter to verify the limits were properly set on the first day on board ? Well I don't know , how about the fact that the first 2 days on board the line for guest services was 2 miles long wrapping around the boat with a 2 hour minimum wait . And considering I took care of everything BEFORE I got on the boat my idea of vacation is not starting it off verifying that you did your job ! Everything else was taken care of , we had the tickets for our excursions , our kids were able to get their hearts desire of soda and my husband his fill of alcohol why would this not also be taken care of ? So what else did Carnival do or say ? Nothing and we got stuck with a $600 arcade bill , a pretty hearty mistake for us to have to cover , so thanks for that treat Carnival. The one good thing I have to say is about the dining team. We had a crew from the Philippines, the primary guy serving us was GERENE and he is fantastic ! Day 1 he had our kids drinks memorized as well as my husband's preferred drink beverage. He was always on top of everything , interacted with our kids so well , catered to our picky eater without batting an eye and knew everyone's names at the table by the second night. Truly the only people on board that made the cruise enjoyable and worth the money we spent. In the end I would rather pay Royal more money to have rude service people who do their jobs than pay carnival to have them completely fall short of impressive customer service or even mediocre service . Destination cruises are just that. You board a ship with the intention of having an amazing onboard experience as well as having wonderful destination experiences. To that end, this trip is definitely what you make of it. The onboard entertainment was less than overwhelming due to the repetitive with the string instrument trio playing EVERY evening and one of the two comedians having NO routine WHATSOEVER - he concluded his last nights TERRIBLE performance with asking the audience to give him a break (from our silence) and taking a bow to let us know that he was finished. The lines for meals were insufferably long irrespective of whether it was breakfast, lunch or any of the snack stations (pizza, burger, or BBQ). We had breakfast in the Southern Lights 3rd floor dining room and you could not be in hurry for that meal insofar as breakfast there was at least a 45-60 minute undertaking. The dinner portions were the smallest of any cruise that I've been on and it was rare to hear anyone in our party RAVE about their evening meal. Now to the destinations - Half Moon Cay (supposedly the Bahamas), Grand Turks (a 7 mile long by 1.5 mile wide island attached somehow to Turks and& Caicos) and Amber Cove (an $86 million dollar Carnival Cruise manufactured destination on the Dominican Republic). None of these destinations can be remotely associated with what one would perceive the Bahamas or Turks and Caicos or the DR to be. They're Truman Show-ish prefabricated stops affiliated tangentially with sovereign Caribbean nations but requiring no passport for passengers to disembark and infiltrate. Tantamount to changing sets in a Hollywood production. Now I do understand that the resort industry would not appreciate 4,000+ people infiltrating these luxurious $1,000+ a-night resort towns with their world famous beaches for 6-hours at a time; but we didn't visit the Bahamas or Turks and Caicos or the DR. We visited Carnival prefabricated (or owned islands like Half Moon Cay) destinations with no organic link to these sovereign Caribbean nations whatsoever - unless you consider the very industrious and ubiquitous Jamaicans who worked EVERYWHERE...NO PROBLEM MON!!! I'm married to one, so that was a plus!! Overall, this trip was disappointing. My floor, our cabin smelled like no other ship I've ever been on. The internet (a $15/per day up-charge) NEVER worked!! The entertainment outside of the Showroom was mediocre and the cruise director Simon's "lovely jovely" (yes JOVELY) was not as nifty as his million repeats of him saying it would suggest. Read Less

This is my second Carnival Cruise, first on Magic. We had a group of 21. Where do I begin? We sailed on June 16th. The pros, the service people work hard, the balcony cabin was nice but (see cons), food was decent, white hot party and mega deck party were fabulous fun and cruise director Simon was awesome. Negatives - ship is poorly designed. Having the majority of the food choices at the same place as the popular pools is just dumb. It caused mobs to gather in one location. They are incredibly understaffed and expect too much from their employees who work hard but can’t meet the demand for service causing long waits for everything. We got the soda package, note that we would never do it again! No soda machines or souvenir cup like RCCL provides. Have to order from the bar which means a 20 minute wait. Frozen drinks are no longer frozen when they finally get to you, food often lukewarm at best. We had four connecting balcony rooms with the intention to have partitions unlocked for one large party balcony except the partitions don’t fold back so they either block your window or your door and they bounce around keeping you up all night. No night service on cabin like we had with RCCL. No real theatrical shows for family to enjoy, Iike Mamma Mia on RCCL’s Allure. (Yes we are spoiled by and love RCCL as is obvious by our comparisons). On board Shops were uninspired, casinos non smoking machines were overrun with smokers with no one enforcing the rules. Seriously in this day and age how difficult is it to implement a non smoking casino? Trust me people will still gamble! Amber Cove was a pleasant surprise (though none of us drank due to the recent death toll}, Grand Turk was disappointing. Have to walk a bit to get away from the water filled with limestone and the locals rob you blind on chairs and umbrellas (free ones are at the ugliest part of the beach and fill quickly) and locals were smoking weed around Cruise families, unbelievable the lack of respect for those providing tourism income, nephew offered cocaine while walking thru one of the shops. Unfortunately bad weather made us skip half moon cay which was disappointing but understandable. We had a great cabin steward, Ricky. However I need to make one last note on a Carnival team member named Brandon. We unfortunately had him as host for trivia several times and for karaoke, regardless how many times he was told he could not be heard, he would not speak up instead just was in his own world oblivious on how to engage guests. At the end of the trip there was delay in getting off boat causing unsafe conditions near elevators. He was clearly given a task to clear areas near elevators, again using his low voice he half heartedly tried to advise people then immediately said I give up and walked away. I don’t say this ever but he should be fired. His arrogance was beyond words. Read Less

I have cruised with Carnival 3 times in the past 19 years. On June_2018 we took the Magic leaving Fort Lauderdale. The food quality at the buffet was very disappointing, menus were repeated over and over. We tried the assigned restaurant once and it was hell, server was messing out order all the time, the food took over 1 hour to be served and even like that, ti came out wrong again. There was also poor entertainment, theater's stage was supper small. Main pool was very often without music. Room's carpet was not clean, bathroom sick clogged, refrigerator making loud noise non-stop. The room's attendant was OK but my 2 requests were never fixed. We were supposed to have a KING bed but all they had were 2 super small personal bed put together. Why offering KING when they know that is not an option?! We had a balcony room, the roof in the balcony was extremely rusted, the door to the balcony had the door lock broken, night lamp also falling apart. Mid ship, deck 11 had very comfy seats with cushions but sadly they were assigned for smokers only... seriously? Smoking section should be assigned to the back side of the ship so the smoke doesn't get anywhere else, it was disgusting passing thru so many areas and having to smell that. The casino's cigar smell was so strong that you could smell it outside of it, they need some serious extractors in there. I got charged me for a protection plan I didn't sign-up for and refused to refund my money, they took the prepaid gratuities' money toward the protection and charged me gratuities again and refuse to adjust my folio. They failed to provide proof of the protection plan policy claiming I added it. I called several times and all they say is SORRY, asked to speak with CEO and they refused too. THEY ARE STEALING MONEY FROM ME AND REFUSE TO COOPERATE ... NEVER AGAIN WILL CRUISE WITH CARNIVAL! Read Less

Ive been on 4 carnival cruises and this by far was the worst one. I don't even know where to begin. The boat constantly smelt like donkey butt, walking up and down the hallway to our room made me want to vomit countless times. The only good food on the boat was Guys Burger Joint and the breakfast buffet in the mornings. The customer service was TRASH, i couldn't believe it. My boyfriend and i had a couples massage that was roughly around $300 us (were from Canada) and i felt so sick through-out the entire thing, i said no hot rocks and the lady still put hot rocks. I had to rush away after because i was going to get sick. Later that night we received a voucher for $50 off at the spa & we thought oh well we just had a massage, lets see if we can use this towards it since we didn't plan on going again. We went down to the guest services and the guy explained that the spa was a different company so we would have to go ask them but that he didn't think it would be a problem. Well... we get up to the spa and explain our situation and politely ask and the lady immediately had such bad attitude and was like " no they're delivered at a specific time, you can't use it towards that but you can put it to another service." and gave us the b****iest look. We just walked away in complete dissatisfaction. We also both purchased the "social plan" wifi which only allows you to go on facebook, messenger, and snapchat and the top airline sites for $50.. the other Carnival i went on was $10 a day for all around wifi, which is how it should've been. This one didn't work while we were in our room, we had to go all over the boat just to get it to work, i tried to video call my mother via messenger like it says and it wouldn't work. Regular features on those sites weren't working either. We were so angry and annoyed at this point in the cruise. We went down to the guest services and explained to them everything and expressed how it wasn't fair and once again, TRASH customer service. The lady just looked at us and was so quiet and just said video calling doesn't work for our plan (it never said that when we purchased) and said there was nothing she can do and just kept looking around. We walked away again! so fed up of carnival. Its not over yet, we were at the bar one night and we just wanted gingerale because i was not feeling well and to be fare, it wasn't that busy. My boyfriend was trying to get the bartenders attention for a can of gingerale and he just straight up YELLED at us and said "are you next?!"with the dirtiest look on his face. It was so rude! Also every set of cutlery i grabbed whilst aboard was dirty, it was disgusting.Theres probably more but I'm going to end it with this last one. Every single time we got pizza from the 24 hr pizza place, it was burnt. EVERY SINGLE TIME. So on our last night i was so FED UP of everything and the service i was getting that i decided to ask the guy for "non burnt lightly toasted pizza" when he handed me yet another burnt pizza. He looked so annoyed with me and just gave the burnt one he tried to give to me to the lady behind me and she looked so displeased. I explained ill wait and he just gave me a dirty look. the fresh one came out and he only gave me 2 slices of it and i said no i want a full one please.. once again ANOTHER dirty look. Then my boyfriend asked for him to politely refill the parmesan when he had a chance and he then again just gave him the dirtiest look. LIKE IM SORRY BUT WE PAID FOR THIS, FOR EVERYTHING AND IT WAS JUST COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I will never sail carnival again. Read Less

The skip's decor was nice but the food was really below par! We tried the main dining room the first two night and did not like the food so we tried the Italian place that we had to pay $15 a person for. The food, the atmosphere and service was great. Couple more nights in the dining room...not that great so and we decided to try the Steak house which cost $39 per person. It was honestly the worst steak i have had and my husband loves steak so we have eaten a lot of them! This restaurant was trying to be so upscale that they really missed the mark from the appetizer to the desert. I would not recommend you spend your money on this restaurant. The shows on the ship were below par also. I have been on 6 cruises and this ship had the worst shows of then all. We loved the comedy shows! Just get there early so that you can get a seat and a drink. As far as excursions..Deep Sea fishing should be called Deep Sea Trolling. We got to hold the rod for 30 sec as we pulled the fish in. The boat ride as relaxing, but it was not what we expected. The best part of the trip was an excursion that was not one of carnivals. We went to Mr. Sancho's beach resort. WONDERFUL! Food, drink, wait staff and beach was great. Very relaxing and wonderful way to end the cruise. This resort is a 15 min tax (there are plenty) for $20 for two people. Highly recommend! Pros: The embarkation in Miami was a breeze. Carnival is usually a lower price than other lines. Carnival has good itineraries for the Caribbean. The Magic is definitely a large ship with many places to grab a drink or sit on the deck. Carnival does a good job moving people off the ship and to their excursion or other transportation. The lines to get back on the ship after excursions were also efficient. Our family enjoyed playing the games that were out on the tables at the Red Frog Bar on 5. I did have a fish, pescado asada, which was good one night. We enjoyed some of the showcase theater entertainment and movie on the deck. We had awesome weather. Cons: Not enough bartenders because we always waited long for drinks. I just had the soft drink package and waited over 20 minutes to get a diet coke to have with lunch. The buffet lines were long, long, long, at breakfast and lunch. I called 3 different times to get a second pillow for one of the kid's beds. The beds were not really comfortable. I knew Carnival's food quality is mediocre at best, but some of the items were inedible. I had a chicken wrap that was filled with skin and gristle. I ate a lot of salad. Coming back to the ship after being gone most of the day left you with only a burger or pizza since everything else closes at 2:30. Dinner every night was cold. On night 3 before dinner, I asked the waiter to please make sure food was hot. Nope, not even close. Don't dare ask for the veggie served with another entree. No changes. Long waits for appetizers and the entree each night. They have a system and you better be ready to abide. Missing some activities due to almost 2 hours for dinner each night was not fun for the 9 and 11 year old. (I have found Royal and Princess to have much better food and be more accommodating.) I really hate the additional charges for everything such as the chat feature on carnival hub. Just price it in the cruise. The lines at guest services were too long at most times. I took my grandson to the arcade. One game worked by swiping my ship card We then swiped the ship card 5 more times on 2 different games. Nothing worked. We went directly to guest services. The woman at guest services was told about our arcade experience. She pulled up my bill and said no arcade charges are present and even gave me a paper copy at that point. I asked if the charges would show up later and insisted that all charges were up to date. So, i took my grandson back to the arcade. The next day I looked at my account on carnival hub and saw the charges were on the bill from our first and second arcade visit. I called guest services and spoke to Imen. She said she would pass the information on to someone and they would call. Guess what, no call, and charges remained. If carnival needs to cheat a retired grandma out of $13, then where else are they cutting corners. I will never choose Carnival for a cruise, life is too short. Read Less

Just returned from a 7-day cruise onboard Carnival Magic and there was no magic onboard that ship. My family and I are avid cruisers and pretty much once a year during the week of Thanksgiving we do a 7-day cruise. We normally cruise with Royal Caribbean but thought we would give Carnival a try this year. Unfortunately, we were totally disappointed with the lack of customer service onboard the ship and the poor communication and organization onboard. We had a group of about 90-100 in our party and for the most part everyone in our party had some sort of problem with their stateroom, onboard accounts, etc. My problems with Carnival started as soon as me and my family entered our balcony stateroom. The room was extremely hot, the AC was not working. The safe in the room was locked so we couldn’t use it. I immediately went to Guest Services, which was around 4pm to let them know about the AC and the safe. I stood in a very long line to get to someone, finally I got a young lady who I explained my problems to and she said she was sending someone to our room to take care of the issues. In the meantime, my family and I went to have lunch and explore the ship while our room was supposedly being taken care of. It’s now 9pm and our AC still isn’t working and our safe is still locked. Turns out no one had even been to our room so Guest Services lied to us. Thankfully we had a balcony room because that night we had to sleep with the balcony door open since we had no AC. The next morning, I went back to Guest Services with the same complaints and once again they said they were sending someone to our room. We waited for a little while and once we realized no one was coming I tracked down our room steward and told him the problem. He tried to help, he called and got our safe open but the safe wasn’t working. We were given a new safe and that safe didn’t work. Another safe was brought to our room and guess what, that one didn’t work either. It took two days and 3 safes’ later for us to finally get a working safe. Meanwhile, we’re still dealing with no AC in our room and no one seems to have any real answers as to when the problem will be fixed. Turns out we were not the only one having an issue with the AC in the room. Several rooms on the ship had an AC problem and two days later Carnival finally acknowledged the problem by sending letters letting us know they were working on the AC. This was just an example of the poor communication and lack of customer service. They knew on day one there was an AC problem and they just lied and brushed off our complaints without being transparent about the problem. This let me know that Carnival does not value their customers. You don’t repeatedly lie to your customers when you know you have an AC problem and you’re not sending someone to our rooms fix the problem. Carnival must think their customers are stupid and they can just brush them off. Shame on them. There were numerous issues I could write about, like the long lines at the buffet, the long lines to, etc. This commentary would turn into a novel if I wrote about all the issues with Carnival. I will finish this up by telling you about the CHAOTIC and UNORGANIZED debarkation process Carnival has. Our debarkation was so bad, you would have thought this was Carnival’s first-time cruising. I’m used to the debarkation process on Royal Caribbean which I have gone through several times and I’ve never had a problem getting off the ship or understanding what I needed to do. First, let me start by saying Carnival placed debarkation steps and times in our rooms the night before. However, when it came to debarking, they did not follow those steps, or the times mentioned at all. Some of our party got off the ship as early as 7am. Then some of us were not allowed off the ship and we were being told that the ship had not cleared yet. The staff on board made us wait, people and their luggage were camped out all over the place because they wouldn’t allow us off the ship. It’s now about 10:00 am and no one on board is communicating to us as to when we will be able to get off the ship. All they would say is you have to wait here. Meanwhile, we see a long line of people moving to get off the ship so we decided to join that line. Once we got in that line a member from Carnival’s staff told us if we were to get off before they told us to, we would not be able to get our luggage. That turned out to be another lie. We finally got off the ship and our luggage was there. Some of the other members in our group didn’t get off the ship until 10:30am or later because Carnival wouldn’t allow them to get off. It was a total nightmare. Although me and my family found our luggage right away there were so many people who couldn’t find their luggage. Our groups debarkation nightmare started at 7:00am and it wasn’t until 12:15pm that the last family in our group got through the process of getting off the ship and finding their luggage. On Royal Caribbean were usually off the ship and on our way home within hour or two at the latest. With Carnival the debarkation process took us 5 hours!!! The last thing I will say is that I will never cruise on Carnival again and be aware if you’re planning to cruise with Carnival. Read Less

Chose it because friends of ours could only get off work that week. Was Thanksgiving week, kids running up and down the halls making all kinds of noise at all hours of the night. Apparently the ones above us and next to us decided it was fun to jump off the top bunk beds onto the floor. Food was not great, and Thanksgiving dinner was a joke. dark meat looked like it was pressed into a form, about 2 tablespoons of dressing, about the same for sweet potatoes, and the "cranberry sauce" was about 1/8 tsp of juice on the plate. Deboarding at Miami is another joke. Someone decided that the luggage carosal like at the airport was the way to go,, NOT !! people didn't know which one their luggage was on, and as they were trying to find theirs, they put the ones they did get off behind and next to them, and no one else could get in to get theirs. They need to do it like at Port Canaveral. This was our fifth and last time with Carnival. Read Less

I choose this cruise for shopping at the ports. Embarkation was disorganized and slow we stood in long lines in the hot sun being barked at by port police and listening to Carnival luggage handlers scream at one another. One handler requested a tip and then let us know that what we did give was unacceptable. Felt disriminated against for most services on board...ie ordering drinks, ignored in dining room, service in fun shops.. booked parasailing adventure in St Thomas and no one was there to take us upon arrival at the port. Walked up and down the Pier asking Carnival reps for assistance they were not interested in helping us. Attempted to get back on the ship and one worker directed us to the director of the shore excursions.. found parasailing tour guide and he said he had no room..we were scheduled for the first tour so not sure how that happened? We would have to wait until 1 hr after the last tour they had. We cancelled. I got sick after eating pizza on the ship and was told in order to get otc meds I would have to be quarantined and be reported to CDC. This was after several trips down to medical to find them closed during hours that they were supposed to be open. Long wait for service in dining room on every visit.. and tiny portions to top it off. Bingo was robbery .. trivia was ok. Quest and comedy were good....cabin was nice size..cruise director Malcolm was funny and service in the casino was good. Read Less

I chose this cruise 8 months ago after a 7 day trip on the Carnival Dream. My plan was to take a trip on all the dream class ships. Now I am questioning this decision. The crew is tired and not up to par with any other cruise I have been on. The drinks were very syrupy sweet and weak lacking alcohol and taste as if they are premade. The food was by far the worst I have ever had on a cruise. We ate at the burger place and taco stand because they were the best. The MDR was awful and slow. One night I had a filet that was ordered medium shouted up well done and was about 3/8” thick. It almost seemed boiled and chewy. The buffet was always crowded or closed food was below average quality and taste. A few things such as the Asian ribs and a BLT sandwich were my only A+. The staff st the stir fry wok were making fun of people in their language if any one asked them anything. Everything that was open was crowed or closed no in between except after 7 pm. The lines would be 30/40 people deap at times tacos, burgers, buffet, pizza and bbq. We missed a port at grand Turk due to a distress signal/report of help needed so we circled for hours to find out hours later we were not going to make it. The captain and crew knew we would not make it but withheld it from the passengers until 10:30am after they had been searching for 5/6hours and we were at least 4 hour from the port. We has a see day but the problem was they were not prepared for it one bit. Thousands of people where up getting ready to get off the ship then port cancelled and understaffed bars Barely open with massive lines and awful bartenders Read Less

We are Gold on Carnival ( almost platinum ) so we have sailed on carnival many times. Port Canaveral is an easy departure location for us in FL so this is why we like it. The ship is just typical carnival layout with a few changes. They put the Italian restaurant on the upstairs area of the Lido Buffet which makes the seating area in Lido more crowded unfortunately. The Spa is maybe one of the nicest features on this ship, it has a big soaking tub and good sauna and steam rooms. But the upsells in the spa are pressure sales big time. E.g. hair treatment was $329 ( not cheap ). The shows were lacking, and for about 1/2 of the songs it was clearly a lip sync. The female dancers were pretty “chunky” and the lads lifting them were clearly struggling. It did not feel like a cabaret at all. The vocals were often off-key also. The best show is the last one Rock-n-roll. The decor in the ship Read Less

We take Carnival every year, this was my least favorite ship that we've ever went on. It was hot all over the ship, the cabins were miserable hot, and every guest that I spoke with stated the same. The bars, hallways, you would be dressed up to have a great night and sweating your butt off all night. It's not a very pretty ship, just kind of blah. The people who work on it were awesome like always. We personally would never go on this ship again. There was not a lot of entertaining on the days at ship , just lots of trying to sale you something, mainly the spa. The children on this ship were out of control, just all over the place. Parents weren't watching them and the staff wouldn't do anything. There is no adult only pool so expect to get water constantly kicked in your face and drink. Couldn't even play put put golf, the kids were sitting all over the course just running wild, while their parents were off not caring. My husband who is law enforcement and I save up all year for this , and what a let down this year. Oh and I always pay gratuities up front, all of them make you feel guilty for not giving them more once you're on the ship. Read Less

We choose this ship mainly for the ports of call and knew it wasn't a new ship BUT this ship was just plain awful. This was our 3rd cruise (6 sailed total) with carnival and will be our last! For my review below, I would have stopped at customer service to discuss with them but every time I stopped the line was ridiculous, so I did not get a chance. Ship-Overall completely outdated smells of stale cigarette smoke everywhere. Cabin-we stayed on the 2nd floor, basic inside cabin. Whole floor smelled like mold/mildew, the smell permeated into the room. Washed all of my clothes when I got back because the smell stuck to my clothes. The a/c unit barely worked and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. We did, however, have a fantastic housekeeper! Dining/Food-we requested the anytime dining and did not get it and was given the 815 dining, so we never went to the formal dining room. The cafeteria, get ready to wait 20-30 mins in line every day for awful food, just horrible. The best food on the ship is in the cucina del capitano (italian restaurant) $15 a person and you get an app, main course, and dessert. I purchased the soda package, what a joke! They serve flat soda because they cannot give you the can of soda, they open all the cans and let them sit in the sun then pour for the next person. If you ask for the can of soda, they make a big deal about it and say they have to open it. You cannot take it to your room. Why? I just don't get it! Entertainment-Casino is fun, but couldn't take the smoke & that smoke smell is everywhere on the ship. Clubs and comedy shows were ok. Went to the lip sync battle show which was fun. I didn't attend any of the major shows because I don't really care to do so. Shore excursion options were good, but book early, many sold out. Download the carnival hub app, best way to keep up with what is going on. They also offer $5 texting via the app, best deal on the ship! Definitely helps when keeping up with friends/family members. Ports/Excursions-We did the power snorkeling in Grand Turk, awesome time! Highly recommend!! Service-Overall was good, I have no major complaints. Our housekeeper was awesome and was very accommodating! Like, I said this was our 3rd Carnival cruise and will be our last. If you are considering carnival, get on a new ship, maybe it will be better!! Read Less

Magic was our first cruise and I had high expectations for it, mostly it didn't live up to my expectations. Boarding: It was much smoother than I thought it was going to be, so A there. We were in the ship in no time and felt a bit lost at first. We were talked into a Cloud 9 Spa tour, skip it! It was overly long sales pitch, I was bored 1 minute into it and regretted it. We gave an excuse and left that sales rabbit hole. Excursion desk: waits were long, but staff very helpful: We book the behind the scenes tour right away and got the last spots in it. We also booked the Spa couples Pass: Totally worth it!! Thallasotherapy Pool was the best part of our trip and great for after port trips. Saved my poor body. ROOM: We were not able get in the room as our check in was 12:00 o'clock. Hint: Push the doors open and get in there to drop your bag. First room impression was that everything smelled old/cheap and almost dirty air, you know when too many ppl sleep in the same room, that smell. Also the clean linen smelled weird, I can't describe the smell, but on some cheap hotels the linen just smells blah. Room 11278 was very HOT! And didn't get better, we complained and got a broken fan to help the problem. If you stay on this room don't expect AC to work much. Beds were thin and hard, my son complained of back pain everyday and hated sleeping in the sofa bed, AVOID THIS! Steward was good and attentive most of the time. Cruise Director was very funny. Cookie is great! Entertainment was corny at best and felt bored most of the time. Comedy club was fun but overcrowded. Food lines were crazy long all the time and they closed way too early, specially on port days. Carnival you need to keep buffet open on Port days! Very limited food place options after the port visit and hard to way in gigantic lines to get food, NOT ACCEPTABLE. Main Dinning Room: Menu repeated on most days, specially the vegetarian options is always the same and never changed. Behind the Scenes Tour: Good, but very long and part of it is very boring like laundry facilities. Engine room and Bridge were cool, but we are not allowed to take photos which sucked. Overall: I would go as far as compared our stay with a what I think staying at a Motel 8 would feel like. Do not expect much if you are used to 4-5 stars hotels. It is a budget option and feel like a budget compromise. We'll try RCI this November and hope that will be a better experience as the Magic disappointed us for our 1st cruise. Read Less

This cruise was chosen because we had never been to Grand Turk or Amber Cove. Also because we were celebrating our 50th anniversary. However, evidently they no longer care to make these occasions very special. This was not like the experience that our parents had when they were having their special anniversary celebrations. We have never felt more alone, ironically on a big ship full of people. We were seated at a table for 2, far from a window, rather than a larger table which we had requested. We tried unsuccessfully to be moved. We had to sit and observe other huge family groups having fun while we were stuck waiting for them to be served. It was boring and sad, as our family was unable to join us since we do not live in or near Florida. We mostly ate in the Lido restaurant at breakfast and sea day lunch. It was utter chaos, noisy and difficult to find a table. Lines for food were ridiculously long. The scrambled eggs were not real. After supper, there were no snacks available except for those who chose to wait in a long line for pizza. Instead, guests have to go to the candy shop to buy things like m & m s. There was a very surly bar waiter in the adults only serenity deck who did not want to serve nonalcoholic beverages (I was on antibiotics). He frightened us with his aggressive response to our simple inquiry, so we left the area. We saw him later in the dining room. The entertainment has deteriorated so much through the years. Now there is no broadway style show or musical, no burlesque, no ballroom dancing, no shuffleboard. So if you like comediens, take a Carnival cruise. Or if you like to watch children's puppets. Bingo was ok. And there was an excellent singing duo Magic and Magic but the bar area dance floor was tiny. There was also a good violin trio by another bar. People hogged the pool area loungers, so we could never get a chance to use one. The casino was completely smoky and no one was winning anything. We had pre-booked 2 excusions, and one was cancelled. They waited until we were on board to do this and then said it had been discontinued for a couple of months. Lines were long for excursions. And on the first 2 days, the lines for Guest Relations were horrendous. Those with internet connection problems had to wait in this line instead of having a dedicated internet area. We would have enjoyed ourselves more if we had stayed home. And none of our previous cruises ever made us feel so disappointed. Read Less

I wanted to go to the eastern caribbean so we chose this cruise. Our ports of all were Domincan Republic, Puerto Rico, Grand Turk, and St Thomas in VI. Most enjoyable thing was a private boat ride at St Thomas with Ocean Peterson. It was wonderful. We booked it on our own and he made sure to have us back on time with a taxi waiting to take us to the ship. Took us to all the beaches, wonderful gourmet meal on the boat along with wine and mixed drinks. Nothing short of awesome. To book this excursion contact cataniayachtcharters@gmail.com or on facebook, Catania Yacht Charters. You will never forget the excursion. Now for the bad. Our first stop was in the Dominican Republic. We booked an excursion but around 10 pm the night before we received a notice that it was cancelled. The excursion desk was closed so missed any chance of seeing that port other than the overcrowded pool area that was set up by carnival. Prices were high on all the products in the carnival area also. Our cabin on the boat was 6261 on the ship. Too much noise. Food was mediocre on good days. Not enough on ship entertainment. Just boring for those who don't drink constantly. Catania yacht charters on St Thomas VI was the highlight of our trip. They saved the week for us. Thank you Ocean Peterson. Read Less

We went on this cruise for the itinerary and port. Mom is platinum so getting on and off was easy. The quality of the shows have gone downhill. No more Las Vegas like shows. The western one was boring pretending to be on a bus. The entertainers were most dressed in black leotards. The talent show is gone only some lip syncing. There is no more past guest party for Gold members. We ate dinners in the dining room, breakfasts Lido deck. Long lines for Mongolian Wok. Guys burgers very burnt and over cooked. Our cabin steward was excellent. The dining staff was wonderful. All staff on board went above and beyond to help my 83 year old mother and me. We both have difficulty walking. All passengers were polite. The comedy club could have more seats. I wish the piano bar was more midship. Most sugar free desserts were bland. I don’t think chia seeds belong on desserts. Bottom line we will go on a smaller ship next time. Read Less

I am a huge Carnival supporter. I think you get your money’s worth on Carnival and they usually treat their returning clients (platinum) like royalty. This was not the case for the Carnival Magic. We boarded the ship on 2/10 in 11 minutes, yes 11 minutes. VERY organized line for their platinum and diamond guests. Our room should have been ready early but it wasn’t; probably should have been ready since it was disgustingly dirty upon our arrival. The amount of mold in our shower or the smell of our fridge shouldn’t have gone unnoticed. Not only was it gross but it was a health hazard for someone that is highly allergic to mold. For some reason our bags took until 5pm to arrive, which is a first for me. We proceeded to the lovely guest services line to show them the photos of our room. They told us someone would call us from housekeeping to fix it…..they didn’t. I had to make two ADDITIONAL trips to guest services and go without our second shower in the deluxe ocean view room for 2 days. Absolutely ridiculous. The lack of customer service on this ship was one of the biggest flaws. This ship is only 8 years old and should not be in the condition it is in. In my opinion the Triumph was cleaner and that is not saying much. To make matters worse, we were not able to stop in Amber Cove (the only port I haven’t been to). Yeah Yeah Yeah, I know it isn’t Carnival’s fault but they could have taken us somewhere else. If it is that hard to dock with a little wind, it shouldn’t be a port. Here are my favorite things about this ship: the casino staff, Lip Sync Battle and Quest (don’t you dare get rid of that), Alchemy Bar, Red Frog, Guy’s BBQ and Burgers, Dr. E. I will have to really think about which cruise line to book next time. Carnival is on a downhill climb lately and a free bottle of wine won't fix that. Read Less

Carnival Magic Feb 10-17 departing Port Canaveral (room 8392) Within 20 minutes of being on the Carnival Magic my husband and I wished we could get off the ship and this persisted for most of the week despite the amazing staff that we had the pleasure of encountering. This was our first cruise and will unfortunately will likely be our last. I would also like to preface this by saying this is the first negative review I have ever written regarding a vacation of any sort as we are a relaxed, easy going family. Within minutes of getting on the ship the overpowering smell of smoke was nauseating and seeped into our toddler’s clothes, despite never stepping food in the casino. I talked to staff regarding this within the first hour of getting on the ship. They ensured me it would get slightly better, which it did while at sea, but barely. Despite only passing through the casino (which the layout of the ship necessitates), smoke overpowered the entire midship of floors 3-5. Why the casino is open to the air off the main atrium to travel up and down all the floors is beyond me. Is the smell supposed to entice people to gamble more? Being celiac I was told there would be lots of options available for me, however, this took a lot of searching and a great deal of time to find. Fortunately, I was pleased with the staff at the Northern lights restaurants, as every night I was able to enjoy a gf meal (staff were phenomenal all week). We choose anytime dining as we thought this would be best for our toddler, I was also informed pre-departure that we could book times while on the ship. Again, this was another disappointment and we were told multiple times it was first come first serve and many time we waited over 30 minutes for a table. Our 18-month-old son enjoyed himself and the staff treated him amazingly. however, most nights dinner took 1.5-2 hours, which is tough for anyone, let alone a toddler. The line ups at the lido marketplace (and all food areas for that matter) were significant, and it would often take 30 minutes to find a seat and get food. The bars were an entire other issue; many times my husband would just walk away from the bar (seeking out the least busy ones) because the service was so slow, which speaks for itself. With exception to the last day and 2 Dr. Seuss events, there was barely any entertainment that the entire family could partake in prior to 8:30 pm, meaning we missed all the evening entertainment as I was not going to drop our son off between 10pm and 1am. Considering Carnival, especially the dream class ships were advertised as family friendly I was highly surprised and shocked that there was actually very little to do on the ship in terms of entertainment. The schedule was filled with opportunities to shop (spa events, jewelry events, auction events). I honestly felt like we were living on a giant infomercial and Carnival was more interested in selling us stuff (especially considering the imbalance of employees utilized for selling vs entertainment/service; 2 bartenders but 7 jewelry staff?) The entire week we felt as if we were in a smoke-filled legion (no wait…you’re not allowed to smoke in most of them anymore) that rented out half of the ship to a fraternity while doing infomercials every chance they got. Overall, we feel greatly disappointed with how Carnival has been targeted towards families, when in fact it was the least relaxing week we have ever experienced on a vacation and regret our decision to cruise for both the time and dollars spent.
