We chose the first check-in time at 12p. Embarkation went very smoothly - we arrived at 11:30a, and we were on the ship by 12p. We knew the buffet on the Lido deck would be mobbed on the first day, so we ate at Guy's Pig & Anchor on deck 5 and there was no line at all. Later that afternoon we went to happy hour at the Red Frog Pub, also on deck 5. They have 1/2 price drinks on beer and Caribbean cocktails for 2 hours in the afternoon on the first day and port days. You can get a huge fishbowl drink for $10 (the Blue Bahama is excellent). Some information for first-time cruisers: I recommend bringing lanyards. The ship card comes with a hole punched in it already. You need the card for the room, to buy drinks, at the casino, & to get on and off the ship. It's so much easier to just wear it on a lanyard. You also need the card to keep the lights on in your cabin - there is a slot near the door. No one explains this to you, however, and it's not really apparent that's what it's for. We prefer to eat in the main dining room. The food is so much better than the buffet and the lines at the buffet were always long. The service in the MDR is kind of slow, but it's a much nicer experience. For lunch we ate at Guy's Burgers (great fries!) and Blue Iguana for tacos and burritos. I find the food at these stations to also be better then the buffet. I did eat once at the Mongolian Wok in the buffet and it was excellent, but it also took 45 minutes in line. The omelet station at the buffet is really good also. It's very chilly everywhere on the ship, so bring a light jacket. I'm normally very warm, but I wore a sleeveless shirt one day and I was too cold. There's a towel station near the main pool where you can exchange wet beach towels from 8am to midnight. The R-rated comedy shows were super crowded. I got to one show 45 minutes early and every seat was already taken. The PG shows were not as bad - you need to arrive 20-30 minutes early to get a seat. The chair-saving situation around the pool is very frustrating. You really need to be there by 6:30a-7a to get a lounge chair. I arrived at 7:45a on a sea day and they were all taken already. I was able to find a loveseat, and I had a view of 8 lounge chairs that had been saved. Two hours later I still hadn't seen anyone use the chairs. Apparently people save them at the crack of dawn and then go back to sleep. Be prepared to hear the phrase "Lovely Jubbly" multiple times a day. Half Moon Cay was canceled unfortunately. It looked beautiful. At Amber Cove there is no beach access at port - just a large pool. I didn't eat or drink while there due to all the news stories, but the 4 people I was with were drinking and they were fine. I haven't heard about anyone getting ill at Amber Cove. I really enjoyed Grand Turk. I walked all the way down the beach to Jack's Shack. It's located near the other, shorter pier. It's so much quieter down there and the water is much clearer than the water near the ship. It's $10 to rent an umbrella and they have great jerk chicken & free wi-fi. Walking back I couldn't believe how crowded the beach area was near the ship, and the pool area was even worse. Resign yourself to the fact that disembarkation is going to be a two-hour ordeal. What a hassle it is. Trying to get an elevator is impossible. I had to lug a very heavy, very large suitcase down 4 flights of stairs. The line for customs is ridiculous. Then there was another long wait trying to get an elevator in the parking garage. It's a shame to end a nice cruise vacation with the chaos of disembarkation. Read Less

In hindsight, booking a cruise mid-June was not the smartest if you don't LOVE 2,000 kids running around. The ship was full and lines were long for everything, that would be my only big complaint. Trying to get a deck chair, ANYWHERE on board after 8:30am is not possible. Old ladies in their scooters are propped up saving rows for their grandkids, who are probably still in bed. Embarkation was very smooth. Got on board, got all of our instructions, and were allowed into our rooms within an hour of boarding. Luggage was there quickly too! We were on deck 1, so getting an elevator was challenging at times. Food is on deck 10, so stairs weren't any faster.. since I kept having to stop and rest. Very bummed that our first port (Half Moon Cay) was cancelled due to weather, but the crew handled it very smoothly. The cruise director Simon London was very good! He was constantly running from one activity to the next, always with a smile and still stopping to chat & greet guests. Honestly, every single staff member I encountered was awesome the entire time. Ok - the ports were something I wish I'd researched more. Unless you book an excursion, there is nothing to do in Amber Cove other than sit around another pool! It is a huge nice pool, but 4400 people fill it up quickly. At least here there are plenty of deck chairs available. Grand Turk is basically all about paying to get shade or a drink. The first 3-4 rows of covered chairs by the water are 'paid upgrades', upwards of $25 depending on which guy catches you as you walk on the beach. Food was good, not fantastic. The best spots are the burger bar and burrito/taco bar on the pool deck. Oh and 24-hour pizza is a huge hit with my kids! Read Less

This is our third time on the Magic, and as always it was great. Honestly this has been one of the best cruises we have ever taken. We did miss Half Moon Cay due to the weather conditions, and that was a disappointment. But that's the risk you take when booking a cruise that goes there. We decided to make the best of it, and spent the day playing trivia and Bingo. We were upgraded to a spa cabin, which was nice. We especially enjoyed the heated pool in the spa. The only drawback to our cabin is lack of closet space. I didn't know when we upgraded that it is a handicapped cabin. So, our bathroom was huge, and very nice, but very little room for our clothes. The cabin itself is very roomy. The entertainment staff on this ship is wonderful. We had a great time at every activity. I played and won trivia so many times Maddie, the trivia lady, knew me by name. I can't say enough about our waitstaff. We had early dining in the Northern Lights dining room. On the first night, my husband didn't order dessert. When the waitress asked why, he told her that he doesn't eat very many sweets. And that they no longer serve the only cake he really likes in the dining room, Black Forest cake. A few minutes later, the hostess Daria comes to our table. She asks my husband about the Black Forest cake, and he told her its no big deal, just the cake that he always used to get. The next night, she comes to our table and tells us that on the last sea day she has a surprise in store for him. The last sea day, they bring him his very own Black Forest cake! I thought that was such a wonderful surprise, that definitely went above and beyond typical service. We hadn't book an excursion for Amber Cove yet. When we got off the ship, we walked through the gift shop and there is a shore excursion stand just outside of it. We talked to the man in charge and chose a short excursion that went to town, toured the church and town square, stopped by the beach for pictures, and then stopped at the fort for a few minutes. We also went to a gift shop, and watched a man make cigars. The guide had told us that the tour would be around 2.5 hours. We left at 10 and got back at exactly 12:30. We spent the rest of the day at the port, in pool. At Grand Turk, we walked to Jack's Shack and spent the day relaxing. Overall it was a nice, relaxing vacation. I am already planning the next one! in 40 cruises this was the worst. if you have allergies DON'T GO ON THIS SHIP. even though we had notified the ta and the ship and the dining staff they couldn't get the food right for my grandson who has severe allergies. on other cruises there was no problem. the service was horrible in the dining room for both dinner and breakfast. excursions were ok we did a private one in st. martin . getting off the ship was crazy. we didn't go to the lecture as we are experienced cruisers they told us there were no more luggage tags available. we should walk our luggage off. a joke as my son had a baby and 2 kids and 8 pieces of luggage. I was very perturbed at the counter and they finally found some tags. the sports area was terrific. the rope course and the golf etc. were all together so the adults could watch the kids doing activities so that was good the shows were ok. ship was fairly clean. main problem was the service Read Less

Departed out of Ft. Lauderdale which I LOVE. So much easier than Miami. We live in the area so we just drove down that morning. This was our 9th Carnival cruise (gold). With two kids (13 and 6) we go for the ocean suite and it makes priority embarkation/debarkation worth it. We bypassed all the long lines and we were on the ship in about 15 minutes. Our room was already ready by 12:30. The cabin itself was good (7277). To keep the lights on, you do need to keep a card in the slot upon entrance. I had no idea, until reading another post, that we could literally use ANY card to do this, including business cards! Ah well. Now you know! The room balcony is my favorite place on the ship. I read out there for hours. Keep in mind that on this floor (well, 6 and above), your balcony won't be directly above water. You will be looking at the edge of deck 5. Some rooms had a view of the hot tub on deck 5. I would have not enjoyed that at all, but our room just had lounge chairs and it was always quiet and didn't obstruct my view when sitting and looking out to sea. Bring a ship approved adapter so you can have more outlets. I also bring a travel fan and digital alarm clock. The muster drill was much better! We just met in a specified room based on our muster station and heard the safety instructions. No standing in rows in the hot sun on the decks! I thought the ship was clean. There's always someone cleaning something. It never felt exceptionally crowded, except the first day on the lido when everyone's scrambling for lunches. After that, I never felt overwhelmed with people. We spent most of our time near the water slides which my kids absolutely loved. We mostly had breakfast in Northern Lights (sit down) which service was VERY slow, but we kept going because it was a nice way to start the day without the chaos and heat of a Lido breakfast., We ate lunch at Guys our the taco place (or deli) which is great. We did early dining. The first couple of nights in the dining room were awful. Either they didn't take our drink order, or they did and they never came. Felt completely ignored. We even wondered if they were short staffed. Slow service. I'm talking 30 minutes to get the dinner rolls! And that's if we got to pick them. Sometimes they just handed you whatever kind without even asking you which break type you wanted. I know, it's little stuff. But we were so annoyed that for the first time, we booked a specialty restaurant (the Italian place) for the third night just hoping to get better service. The service was great at the specialty restaurant, though the location is a bit odd. I think the basketball court is right above it so there was a lot of banging. Anyway, when we went back to the dining room the 4th night, service improved greatly and for the first time, everyone at the table got their drinks! Each night after that was perfect. The food itself is very good too. I gained 7 pounds! (Currently down 4 of those pounds tho!) We never used the kids club even though I sign them up every time! I actually thought the shows were pretty good! Especially compared to the last couple Carnival cruises we've been on. The director was great (British guy), the staff was great too! Having kids, our fav was the movies at night on the deck. You can get popcorn and rent a blanket. St. Maarten: we did the Golden Eagle Catamaran tour and loved it! Very organized. Smooth ride. First stop was snorkeling. Even my 6 year old loved it. Second stop was a beach. Beautiful waters. They served a lot of beer and rum punch. The punch was awesome! Of course a few passengers over indulged (there's always a few!) but luckily they were happy drunks and nothing got too crazy. Would def do that excursion again. St. Kitts: meh. To be fair, we didn't book an excursion because the only ones that interested us, the min age was older than 6. We just walked around the port and then tried to navigate the town a bit and it was just a little too much for us. The roads/drivers made me too nervous with my younger one. I didn't find it to be very friendly there, but if we were to ever go back, I'd def book an excursion because I am interested in the history of the island. San Juan: We've been here a few times but it was the first time for my youngest. We always visit the National Historic Site. We read everything and explored. We also walked around the city/shops. It's such a cool city! We've never done an excursion here though. Grand Turk: my husband's favorite. Honestly, we just enjoy the beach/Jimmy Buffets. Bring your water shoes and snorkel. We saw the most amazing fish just swimming on their beach. Rainbow parrot fish being our fav. We want to go back to Turks for a week just to snorkel! Overall it was a great vacation and we were lucky to have amazing weather! I would def go on this ship again. Read Less

I have cruised with Carnival 3 times in the past 19 years. On June_2018 we took the Magic leaving Fort Lauderdale. The food quality at the buffet was very disappointing, menus were repeated over and over. We tried the assigned restaurant once and it was hell, server was messing out order all the time, the food took over 1 hour to be served and even like that, ti came out wrong again. There was also poor entertainment, theater's stage was supper small. Main pool was very often without music. Room's carpet was not clean, bathroom sick clogged, refrigerator making loud noise non-stop. The room's attendant was OK but my 2 requests were never fixed. We were supposed to have a KING bed but all they had were 2 super small personal bed put together. Why offering KING when they know that is not an option?! We had a balcony room, the roof in the balcony was extremely rusted, the door to the balcony had the door lock broken, night lamp also falling apart. Mid ship, deck 11 had very comfy seats with cushions but sadly they were assigned for smokers only... seriously? Smoking section should be assigned to the back side of the ship so the smoke doesn't get anywhere else, it was disgusting passing thru so many areas and having to smell that. The casino's cigar smell was so strong that you could smell it outside of it, they need some serious extractors in there. I got charged me for a protection plan I didn't sign-up for and refused to refund my money, they took the prepaid gratuities' money toward the protection and charged me gratuities again and refuse to adjust my folio. They failed to provide proof of the protection plan policy claiming I added it. I called several times and all they say is SORRY, asked to speak with CEO and they refused too. THEY ARE STEALING MONEY FROM ME AND REFUSE TO COOPERATE ... NEVER AGAIN WILL CRUISE WITH CARNIVAL! Read Less

We had the Spa Balcony and as when we took a shower the whole bathroom floor flooded. The dining sitting arrangement was bad. They had us seated back where the help was going in and out. They should never put a table bake in a corner away from all diners. The waiter took 15 minutes to come to our table just get water. We had to ask for water for the table. We were always the last to leave. It took the 2 hours or more to complete our Dinner. This is unacceptable. Door were not open when arrive for dinner. We had 15 minutes wait. All the food was dreadful except for your assigned dinner arrangement. If you didn't eat dinner or at the hamburger cart by the pool you be out of a meal. The breakfast buffet always had raw bacon. I did eat at the WOK and got sick. After the cruise my Grandaughter said she eaten there and go sick also. I have been on Carnival in pass years (before 2008) and have never had a bad experience. I became a Gold member of Carnival during this time. We use to only do New Ship each year. I just started cruising again and this was the first time on Carnival since 2008 and it was BAD. When we went get snack after 9:00pm we all ordered a Ruben sandwich and ask for extra cheese and they stated that they couldn't"t give us any Swiss cheese but American cheese. Everyone knows a Ruben sandwich only takes Swiss cheese. The roast beef was so tough like rubber we couldn't it. We laugh and through tin the trash. The pizza was like cardboard. The pool was always filled with kids. No pool for only adults. I don't know what happen to this Carnival cruise line but they're not how I remember. I will never cruise with Carnival unless I get a real good deal on Newer Ships. Read Less

Overall, we (my husband and I and my daughter and her boyfriend) had a great time. This was a 6 night cruise beginning in Fort Lauderdale with stops at Half Moon Cay, Amber Cove and Grand Turk. Our last cruise was on the Disney Dream in 2011. The Ship/Activities: The CD, MarQ, was very entertaining. The ship was clean and we saw staff cleaning the common areas throughout the week. Our cabin was perfect (other than some really loud neighbors who liked to congregate in the hall between 2-4 a.m.). Very comfy bed, hot shower, air conditioning worked well. We had a balcony and my daughter had an inside cabin. We played Bingo, saw the Love and Marriage Show, 2 comedy shows, went to Quest, watched 1 Dive-In movie, played trivia, went to the MarQ's farewell and 90's Trivia party which was a lot of fun. We had a good time at everything. Food: We had your time dining - used the HUB app to reserve a table and there was never really a wait of any kind. By the time we got to the dining room our table was ready. Dining room food was good - one of the elegant nights filet mignon was on the menu. We ate at Guy's Burgers a couple of times - good but greasy. Didn't love the buffet but we don't care for buffet's anyway. Nothing really wrong with it, just have saw better on Disney (which you definitely pay for). We ate at the Italian restaurant and it was tasty. The 24 hour pizza was a hit with all of us. There was a line at times but it moved quickly. Ports/Excursions: Loved the beach at Half Moon Cay. The water was super clear and calm. Enjoyed just relaxing. BBQ lunch was provided - chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, fruit, brownies and a bunch of different type salads. We took a private excursion at Amber Cove to the Damajagua Waterfalls through Iguana Mama. We had 12 people in our group and they took excellent care of us. We did the 12 waterfalls trip and afterward they provided lunch (and rum & coke). Highly recommend Iguana Mama. We did another private excursion on Grand Turk with Humpback Dive Shack. Also had a great experience. First stop was snorkeling with sting rays and then we snorkeled at a nearby reef. We saw a lot of colorful fish and really enjoyed it. Loved that they are environmentally friendly - the captain turned the boat around to pick up a floating balloon and they also don't touch the sting rays or feed them (which is illegal). The water at Grand Turk was amazing. After our excursion, we walked down to Jack's Shack for lunch and rented 2 umbrellas for the afternoon ($10 each for the umbrellas, the chairs are free). We had a really good time on the cruise. Almost all of the Carnival employees we encountered were very friendly. We definitely got our money's worth. Read Less

This is my husband and I's 7th cruise together, my 8th. We LOVE cruises and this one was probably our favorite. It was the biggest ship we have ever been on (even though they are all set up the same). I was really nervous about lines/cleanliness etc based on reviews I read before I left, but this was by far a great vacation and fantastic ship. We flew into Fort lauderdale the day before and stayed at the La Quinta inn and suites. They have a free shuttle that picks you up from the airport and takes you to the hotel. Expedia, however, lost our hotel booking and after an hour of the front lady going back and forth with Expedia, it was resolved. The hotel upgraded us to a suite for the mix up. We took an Uber from the hotel to the shuttle the next morning. Getting on the ship: Embarkation was extremely smooth and efficient. We almost instantly got on the ship even though we were early. We grabbed lunch at Guy's burger and found a set of seats under an umbrella outside. The day everyone was getting on the ship was the busiest of any of the days and had the longest lines. They weren't even that long though! I read some other reviews of 45 minute long lines throughout the cruise.... I'm not sure what they were trying to wait for because we didn't experience anything like that. Ship: Great ship. More modern than the other ships we have been on, so that was nice. The lanai on deck 5 was pretty great! Clean and well maintained. There are a ton of hot tubs on this ship! Dining: We had anytime dining and showed up anywhere between 5:30 and 6:30. We used the app to reserve our table. This was our first cruise using the app and it is such a GREAT addition. We would reserve it in our room and by the time we walked to the dining room, our table was ready. We always requested to sit by ourselves and it was always honored. Food was always great and prompt. I even had a few odd requests like an additional side of mushroom risotto or extra plantain chips that was used as a garnish for a dish (so delicious!) - and they would always bring them to me. Also - if you're new to cruising, know that you can order multiple things. I usually would get 2 appetizers. Shimp cocktail and a salad, or a salad and xyz. Food: We usually order room service the night before for the coffee and some fruit in the morning but this was the first cruise we didn't do this regularly. We are usually early risers and so when we ordered room service - the coffee was stale/burnt and it just wasn't worth the hassle of trying to make sure we were up and dressed. That's another big thing about ordering room service - they come INTO your room to set down your order. I have made the mistake of not being fully dressed when answering the door. So fair warning! - I WISH I WOULD HAVE TRIED THE OMELET STATION SOONER! I tried it on the day we got off the ship and it was SOOOO good. - I ordered 24 bottles of water before we got on the ship for $10? and it was delivered to our room when before we arrived. Best decision ever, as I hate the taste of tap water on the ship. Specialty coffee: Grab a latte on level 5. They are priced well and well made. Make sure you go on the first day and get the punch card. If you end up getting 1 drink a day, you'll get your last one free. You can use the punch card for multiple people too. Entertainment: We LOVE going to the comedy shows but the shows need to be held in bigger venues. I'm not kidding when I say, we had to show up an hour beforehand if we wanted any choice in seating. The place is full 30 minutes prior. We loved the shows though. Make sure you go to the Love and Marriage show. I will say this, there were quite a few dead times on the ship. Compared to 7-9 years ago, I feel like they have cut back on things to do in general. This has nothing to do with the Magic specifically though. If you JUST started cruising though, you would know no difference. We usually go back to the room and take naps during the dead times. Our last cruise with Carnival, they had a magician on board. That would have been a great addition to the Magic. No pun intended haha Service: As usual, we had great service. There was one incident with people under us having a bose speaker that was vibrating our balcony from how loud it was playing. Carnival handled it quickly and in a professional way. I read other reviews of crew members being mean or acting like they don't care..... again... not sure how that is possible. Staff was always fantastic, no matter where we were on the ship. Ports: Half moon cay + Amber Cove + Turks and Caicos HMC - this was our 3rd visit to half moon cay but by far our best visit.... simply because this time, we brought our own inflatable rafts. I went to 5 below before our trip and bought 2 rafts. We unfolded them and blew them up and floated for hours. Everyone around us kept asking where we rented them from. It was the best $5 we ever spent! Make sure you get off the ship early so you can have your choice of a chair and bring plenty of sun screen. Drinks on the Island are pretty expensive as well even though they sell a ton. Amber Cove- This was our first time we visited Amber Cove. I'm glad we booked an excursion because just like Freeport and a few other ports, if you don't book something, there would be nothing to do. We did the waterfall of damajargua (spelling?). It was an amazing excursion and was ran extremely well. We brought our Gopro to take videos and pictures, but they did a good job at taking pictures/video that are available to purchase. I believe it was $50? I would highly recommend the excursion. Turks and Caicos - this was our second time here and we didn't book an excursion, so we just ventured around the shops for a bit and then enjoyed the pools on the ship while everyone was off the ship. We also were the only ship in all the ports all week, so it was awesome that we weren't crowded! WARNING WARNING - GETTING OFF THE SHIP! I am SO glad we didn't book early flights. Getting off the ship when the cruise ended was the worse de- embarkation we have ever experienced. They kept stopping everyone because the gangways, customs were backed up. We didn't get off the ship until 11 am. The worst part is that THEY SHUT OFF THE WATER AT 9 AM. That means you couldn't flush toilets, get water to drink, wash your hands etc. There were still a ton of us on the ship, so I found this extremely frustrating. You had to be out of your room by 8:30 am, so there were hundreds of people just waiting anywhere they could. Read Less

This was our first cruise, and couldn't believe what a great ship this was. Started at embarkation from FLL, an absolute breeze and were on ship in about 20 mins. Headed straight for food, and then to the red frog pub for drinks. Balcony cabin aft on deck 7 was great (apart from noise of neighbours slamming door, oh and smoking weed on his balcony) Food was always great - big fan of guys burgers where we ate a few times. Food in MDR was always great, though sometimes not overly warm which was more due to the room temperature more than anything else. We also ate in the steakhouse, which was amazing food and the best steak I've ever had. Also booked the italian restaurant for our last night which again was lovely food, and really big portions. We didn't purchase the drinks package, but did make use of happy hour when we could catch it. Spent our sea days up on Serenity deck which was nice - but be warned it can be really hot up there as not a lot of shade about. I booked a pedicure in the spa, but it wasnt a great experience - mainly due to staff being quite rude and not interested in interacting with customers at all! All in all I don't think there is anything else i could fault about our cruise, staff and room steward were all lovely. I would definitely book to go on this ship again Read Less

The comedians and watered down drinks in the punchliner comedy club were not very good-only one was worth the time to listen to-saw him first cannot remember his name. Hint-get your drink elsewhere and take it in there with you! This was disappointing. The theatre was good-the singers and dancers worked very hard to deliver an awesome program. My favorite was 88 keys-this show was awesome! The food was excellent. Our room and a lot of areas on the ship were warm-could have been better air conditioning all over the ship. They had a weird set up for the lights-had to keep your sign/sail pass or a credit card in this thing on the wall for the lights to work-yea-who knew why we had no lights! we had never been on Carnival, and this was a 9 day cruise, so we decided to give it a try. we traveled with our son and daughter in law, had adjacent cabins. what was good was we had the steward open the door between balconies and were able to all enjoy the balcony together. did not enjoy the food, every seafood dish I tried was fishy, even the fried oyster appetizer and the lobster tail--inedible. the anytime dining was convenient, and the Carnival Hub app worked very well most of the time. the highlights were the sit down breakfasts and the seaday brunches. the Italian restaurant was the biggest highlight of the cruise, and everything there was perfect, the waiter, I believe his name was Goran, was exceptional. our cabin was very nice, and our steward, Agung, was very good, with fresh ice all the time, and he was right on top of keeping our cabin fresh. too many smoking areas, and the casino was terribly smoky, we couldn't go there to gamble, and even passing through to another area was a bad experience. shows not good, 88 keys was below average, and the country music show was terrible. the best entertainment was the three ladies playing electric violins in the atrium, they were excellent. boarding and debarkation were smooth. we won't be traveling on Carnival any more, will have to look for a "luxury" cruise I guess. Drunken fools during the muster drill and thereafter. The inclusive drink option is crusing cruising experiences.kids club....advertised and closed. Grand turk is a very sad place to visit ( post hurricane) we did a tour of the island and there is still lots of visual scarring The best for last...the good....the crew the food and the ship are top notch. Staff appear to be really enjoying themselves. I had absolutely no complaints about the carnival side of things....gym was clean and large. Cruise director Marq gave it his all. Great food options include burritos guys burgers.to be succinct....it was the ten percent of the passengers that act like drunken stoned fools. Read Less

Took this cruise with my daughter-in-law for some fun and relaxation. We couldn't get on the this until 4 P.M. due to the fact of the ship repositioning from Miami, but no problem we just did some fun things in Ft. Lauderdale until time to board. Right onto the ship, right to the cabin. We upgraded to a balcony two days before sailing and everything was switch but a few items, but our cabin steward, K2, fixed these thing quickly. Room was always kept clean. We only got the evening turndown service which worked fine. I really don't know why so many people complain about the food. I have been on many cruises and the food in the MDR was the best I have ever had. There are plenty of places to eat and we went to evening meal at the MDR everynight. We had a great table lots of fun. Our waiters really knew how to dance. The shows were great. The only thing I can say is the seats in the balcony are very close and if you have bad knees, like me, set on the main floor or ouch. The casino is a little to smoky, but we played anyways. I will admit it did get to me a couple of times and effected by throat, but I lived. The casino workers were all very friendly and I didn't do bad in the casino, brought back what I took, so this was a win. The pools looked crowded on sea days. I can't do the sun any longer, breaks me out, but it looks like everyone was enjoying the pool that went. Cruise director Markq, was great. One the best I have seen. If you go to Amber Cove, be prepared the walk off the pier is long, but there are Pedicabs that will transport you for a tip. We gave $10 each way. Coming back it is the best $10 we spent, because we were tired. Took a shore excursion, Outback Adventures on Amber Cove and would highly recommend it. The ship was very clean, I don't know what the people that says it isn't is looking at. Go have an open mind and have fun. This is the reason to go on a cruise. Read Less

We booked this cruise to relax and I must say... Mission accomplished! This was our 3rd sailing with Carnival, our first on a larger ship. Overall, we had a great time! The ship did not leave until 9 pm since she was repositioning from Miami that morning. We drove the 3.5 hours to the port. Our goal was to arrive around 3 since we had a 4:00 check-in. I was following social media for updates and saw how some people took a bus to a mall. I guess they started boarding shortly after the bus pulled away. We went straight to the port, arriving around 3:30 and were on the ship in about 20 mins. I read other reviews where people didn't have such a good time but this was the easiest boarding experience I've had so far. Our room was ready as soon as we boarded. I went straight to the shore excursion desk to pick our cabana. I was second in line and was able to get my first choice, #13. I then went to the atrium bar and ordered a celebratory glass of champagne! We did my time dining. I thought I would like the flexibility but I think I prefer late assigned dinner. Every meal in the main dining room was excellent! There was nothing we were served that disappointed. Bar service was a little slow so bring a drink with you. We ate at the Italian restaurant one night. We were a little disappointed that we were waiting at the reservation table for about 5 mins and a couple that walked up after us was assisted first (we had a reservation). The food was okay, large portions. The service was excellent. It was difficult to eat because the restaurant is in the aft of the ship and the vibration was so bad at times it looked like that scene with the water glass in Jurassic Park! My boyfriend was getting queasy and couldn't eat. We also ate in the steakhouse one night. I did not like it as much as I had thought I would but the price is great for what you get. Again, top notch service. Unfortunately, this night I was feeling queasy so that may have contributed to my lack of enjoyment. Brunch in the main dining room was my favorite! This was a Premier cruise so I understand the casino was more packed than usual. I was not a premier guest but I guess I did well enough to earn some cookies, a bottle of water and a discounted room on another cruise. I enjoyed the slots almost every night and did not lose all the money I walked on the ship with. I will say the bar service in the casino was disappointing. The actual bar only had 2 bartenders although this is a popular bar. Drink servers were few and far between. One server on the last night forgot my beer TWICE. The casino wasn't even crowded at this point. He even commented on my patience after the first time forgetting. After waiting 45 minutes and the server forgetting my drink for a second time, I told him to cancel it. I went to the bar and got a drink only to realize I was charged for the drink I never got. Eventually he gave me 2 drinks saying he owed me... so I had 3 beers. I also found the people at the cashier's desk to be short and little rude but it didn't ruin anything for me. Our room steward was exactly what we expect from Carnival. He was friendly, got us our bathrobes quickly and took care of our cabin. We requested evening service. We had a balcony cabin and the location on deck 7 was convienent. The room seemed smaller than other rooms I've had on Fantasy class ships but it fulfilled it's purpose! We enjoyed visiting Red Frog Pub! Nelsha, Lotoya and Christina are some of the hardest workers on that ship! They were always so busy but remembered our names and what we wanted. We made sure to tip often! We didn't do a lot of activities. I enjoy bingo and played as often as I could. I never won though. I also enjoyed the Lip Sync battle. We were lucky with the contestants on this sailing because the guy really put on quite the show! We went to a comedy show and just didn't find it all that funny. Comedy is a matter of taste and other people seemed to enjoy the show she put on. MarQ was the CD. He seemed very visible and approachable. I was worried the ship would feel crowded but we always seemed to be able to find a place to settle when we needed. The pool seemed crowded often but a lot of activities take place there. Overall, the Magic manages crowds well and lines move quickly. Very rarely did we feel crowded. The overall condition of the ship was clean. Someone was always cleaning something! There are a few noticeable worn spots in areas but with so many people moving through there it's to be expected. The outside was a little rusty, my boyfriend even commented on it. Fellow cruisers were nice but I think I understand more when people say Carnival is "the Walmart of the seas." Of course trashy people just seem to draw more attention to themselves but there were quite a few people on this sailing who caught my attention, if you catch my drift. Ultimately no impact on my vacation, though. We rented a Cabana at Half Moon Cay. I highly recommend getting one. We chose Cabana 13. This proved to be a good choice as the beach was super crowded but most people stayed closer to the ship. We talked to someone who had Cabana 5 and they said people were trying to use their showers and stuff but we had no problems with that. Bar service was practically non-existent at the Cabana but it was a quick walk to the bathroom and bars so not a problem. In Grand Turk we walked the short walk to Jack's Shack. We were offered horseback riding, drugs or a beach chair by a one-stop shop manned by friendly locals right off the ship. Jack's Shack lives up to the hype. Much less crowded than at the port, quick service, umbrella for $10. We also were able to watch the Pride leave port. We went to Margaritaville for a drink. Apparently someone (an adult) pooped in the pool. Luckily we didn't go in. In Amber Cove we just hung out at the port. Definitely check out the sky bar... the views can't be beat! It was beautiful! It was hard to choose a favorite port because each had something different to offer. I would do this itinerary again. We had a great time and will definitely sail Carnival again but will book another line for our next cruise just to see what else is out there. Read Less

I went on this cruise with 4 other friends. This was my first cruise but some of the others I traveled with have been on many cruises but after seeing what I endured this will be their last with Carnival. I am handicapped from the waist down & utilize an electric wheelchair to get around. We rented a handicapped suite which had plenty of room but we also had to pay extra for the suite to fit my wheelchair. I didn’t mind. Never at any time was I told or warned that there were decks of the ship that I wouldn’t be able to access. Not even in an e-mail. When on board some of friends went to deck 12 and I was trying to get to them. I spent over 2hrs going from 1 location to another, at the direction of crew members to get on the deck. There was a screen on the deck & supposedly I could get there behind this screen. Nope! 2 hrs I spent I felt like an idiot & degraded. I ended up back in my room crying. I also couldn’t get on the adult deck only, deck 11. Nor could I go into the Spa, which would have been great for my medical issues & not just for vanity reasons. Then there’s their private island, Amber Cove. Wheelchairs aren’t allowed on tenders despite them being large boats. This was the only thing I was aware of & that was because of my friend that I was traveling with. One would think with Carnival owning their own private island & they could make it handicapped accessible & perhaps put up umbrellas for quests to have some shade. Instead they gladly screw over their quests by making them pay extra for drinks instead of it tying into their drink package on the ship. They both belong to Carnival after all. Then there’s the dreaded elevators. There were instances were I couldn’t even get on them due to overcrowding & attempted for over 45min only to just go back to my room. Another time 6 tries before someone helped me because the doors closed to fast for me to get to them fast enough before they closed. This was just to name a few. It got to the point that any time I had to go them my anxiety went through the roof. My friends were shocked at how difficult it was for us to get an elevator with me. It was degrading, humiliating & embarrassing. I skipped dinner 3 nights because I just didn’t have the energy to fight with the elevators anymore on those days. I was done. Instead I stayed in my room & just cried. I also wasn’t made aware I wouldn’t be able to access any of the pools or hot tubs. How would you feel about going on vacation & find out 1/2 of the stuff available wasn’t available to you? You had to sit back & watch others having fun! That’s not my idea of a vacation. Had I known all this I wouldn’t have booked my trip. Then to top off my trip on the final night of my trip I utilized my walker to drag myself out onto my balcony to take pictures of the sunset. While taking pictures I felt an weird sensation in my right foot & looked down & there was a dirty, salt covered, rusty razor blade sticking out of my foot. I got myself back inside & sat down & while I was trying to pull it out of my foot I cut my left thumb. I immediately tried to call medical & got no answer. I got my steward & told him & showed him where it happened. Showed him the razor blade. I also reminded him we received a note the day or 2 prior that the crew were going to be cleaning all the balconies. That maybe someone dropped it while cleaning & the wind could have caught it then lodged it in my foot. He went to his supervisor to tell him & I tried to call medical again & got no answer again. When my steward came back he said “ There is no Dr on duty but you could go try to find the nurse.” I told him “ I have a rare immune disease that a lot of Dr’s don’t understand & no offense to nurses but if Dr’s don’t understand it a nurse certainly won’t & a nurse can’t dispense medication & if I need a tetanus shot & antibiotics she can’t administer them. I need a Dr. I guess I’m on my own. His response was “There is nothing we can do.” Then he left. I wiped down my wounds with antibacterial wipes & wrapped them in tight bandages to hopefully close them I had with me for emergencies. When I got home I ended up having to have both a tetanus shot & go on antibiotics. I wrote Carnival to tell them my experiences & they blatantly lied to me saying they sent me all this information in an e-mail on 2/20/18 & told me this verbally. I saved all my correspondence from Carnival. The e-mail from 2/20/18 was to join their VIPC club. I also was never told how hard it would be to get around the ship, that I couldn’t go into the pools, the spa, the hot tubs etc... The only I was made aware of was that I couldn’t go to their private island because I couldn’t go on the tenders but when I saw the size of them I was shocked. When people go on vacation it’s to escape from the trials & tribulations of their daily lives. It’s no different for people who are handicapped. We didn’t ask to be this way but we deal with it the best we can. We try to live independent lives. I didn’t need my disability slapped in my face. My mind also works great so I didn’t need crew members to treat me like I’m an idiot. Take this as a warning. If you have any special needs don’t travel with Carnival. Read Less

On this cruise, the quality of all the baked goods.Bread, rolls, and even paid for desserts from the coffee shop, where dry, tasteless and barely edible. There was no room service menu,(except morning menu),in our room. And the bread ,that was supposed to be toast was like warmed up stale bread. And the biscuit on the sausage biscuit we paid for was nothing like biscuit texture, from that menu.We requested Anytime seating, and a table for 2.And their idea of a table for 2 is now,2 person tables, shoved so close together, with other tables for 2.That you bump arms with the people sitting next to you.And a private conversation is completely out of the question. The entertainment was a whole lot of trivia. And very little live music. In anything but the showroom. Our room steward was told to not come to our room, before 12pm.Because my husband likes to stay up and watch all the late shows. He consistently tried to come in each day.And after my husband told him the third time.He started cleaning the adjoining room next door and smacked the vacuum cleaner on the door. And we could hear him laughing about it each day.The quality of this cruise, has me really hoping this isn't Carnivals new norm.As we have an Alaska cruise in August. Let me start this off by saying that we love cruising. This was our 3rd Carnival Cruise. Previously we have been on the Pride and the Conquest and we enjoyed both and decided to once again cruise with Carnival aboard the Magic. From beginning to end.. something was just.. off. The day of our sailing, the ship was moving from Port Miami to Port Everglades. With that being said, we pre-checked in at the airport and they said that since we cannot get onto the ship until "late in the afternoon", they would bus us to a mall and we would meet back at the drop off location and be shuttled to the terminal. There was mass confusion at the airport and the carnival staff was being so mean to one another - it was a huge disorganized mess. We FINALLY get on a bus and the bus drive has no clue where he is going or where to drop us off. What was supposed to be a 20 minute bus rider turned into 1 hour of us driving in literal circles. We finally get to the mall and had 3 hours to shop and time to meet back at the location to get back on the bus... more mass confusion. People everywhere. Police directing us, some carnival staff telling us to wait - while some staff is telling us to get on the bus. Passengers running in front of us to get on the bus. It was just mass chaos and extremely hot outside to be out there waiting. When we finally get to the terminal, it was more confusion because some people had an arrival appointment and some did not. People were RUNNING through the lines to get up the escalator to get on board. I could not believe what I was seeing. No sense of organization at all and passengers acting like children. Since embarkation was a total mess it started our cruise off on a bad note. But we were determined to still have a good time - and we did. Our cabin was small but nice enough. The cabin stewards were so kind to us and always had us laughing. The food options were awesome! We loved all the food we ordered! One thing though - although the service in the dining room was great - my appetizers were wrong on multiple occasions. I know that these things happen and I did not mind the mix up. Everyone on the staff was amazing and made the ship truly feel like home. One thing that we did not like about this ship is that it seems like there are too many people. If you did not make plans to get a lounger by the pool early.. you were not getting a chair. Lots of people were saving their seats with towels and we actually saw the rules about not saving seats being enforced which was nice because I feel like it usually isn't. Along with the chairs, if you did not plan to have your breakfast/lunch at an earlier time.. you were going to be waiting in long lines. Everything we did had to be planned around the crowds and lines. If you weren't at a comedy show 45 minutes early.. you weren't getting a seat. We bought the Cheers! drink package and at the pool .. we waited SO long for drinks that we just ended up getting up and waiting at the bar almost every time. I know this seems so "first world problem" but when you're on a cruise and in your chair comfortable.. the last thing I want to do is get up and wait. We never had that issue on any other cruise we went on. Another thing we did not like is the smoking in the casino. I don't have an issue with people smoking but there was NO ventilation whatsoever. Smoke would just sit in that area and it was terrible. We came home with all of our clothes smelling. Even if we weren't hanging out in there, we had to almost always walk through to get to our destination because of where our room was.. I feel like this is something that needs to change. Entertainment on the ship was okay.. same as last year and we were surprised to see that not much was changed so we did not go to many shows. We loved going to the piano bar and watch Rebecca play and sing! We went to Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, and Amber Cove. We loved all of the ports and the simplicity of getting on and off the ship - no lines! Disembarkation was a breeze .. we carried our bags off to catch an early flight and had no issues and waited in no lines.. All in all, after a rocky start with embarkation, we truly did have a good time. We met some great people and loved exploring this ship (lines and all!). Read Less

Ive been on 4 carnival cruises and this by far was the worst one. I don't even know where to begin. The boat constantly smelt like donkey butt, walking up and down the hallway to our room made me want to vomit countless times. The only good food on the boat was Guys Burger Joint and the breakfast buffet in the mornings. The customer service was TRASH, i couldn't believe it. My boyfriend and i had a couples massage that was roughly around $300 us (were from Canada) and i felt so sick through-out the entire thing, i said no hot rocks and the lady still put hot rocks. I had to rush away after because i was going to get sick. Later that night we received a voucher for $50 off at the spa & we thought oh well we just had a massage, lets see if we can use this towards it since we didn't plan on going again. We went down to the guest services and the guy explained that the spa was a different company so we would have to go ask them but that he didn't think it would be a problem. Well... we get up to the spa and explain our situation and politely ask and the lady immediately had such bad attitude and was like " no they're delivered at a specific time, you can't use it towards that but you can put it to another service." and gave us the b****iest look. We just walked away in complete dissatisfaction. We also both purchased the "social plan" wifi which only allows you to go on facebook, messenger, and snapchat and the top airline sites for $50.. the other Carnival i went on was $10 a day for all around wifi, which is how it should've been. This one didn't work while we were in our room, we had to go all over the boat just to get it to work, i tried to video call my mother via messenger like it says and it wouldn't work. Regular features on those sites weren't working either. We were so angry and annoyed at this point in the cruise. We went down to the guest services and explained to them everything and expressed how it wasn't fair and once again, TRASH customer service. The lady just looked at us and was so quiet and just said video calling doesn't work for our plan (it never said that when we purchased) and said there was nothing she can do and just kept looking around. We walked away again! so fed up of carnival. Its not over yet, we were at the bar one night and we just wanted gingerale because i was not feeling well and to be fare, it wasn't that busy. My boyfriend was trying to get the bartenders attention for a can of gingerale and he just straight up YELLED at us and said "are you next?!"with the dirtiest look on his face. It was so rude! Also every set of cutlery i grabbed whilst aboard was dirty, it was disgusting.Theres probably more but I'm going to end it with this last one. Every single time we got pizza from the 24 hr pizza place, it was burnt. EVERY SINGLE TIME. So on our last night i was so FED UP of everything and the service i was getting that i decided to ask the guy for "non burnt lightly toasted pizza" when he handed me yet another burnt pizza. He looked so annoyed with me and just gave the burnt one he tried to give to me to the lady behind me and she looked so displeased. I explained ill wait and he just gave me a dirty look. the fresh one came out and he only gave me 2 slices of it and i said no i want a full one please.. once again ANOTHER dirty look. Then my boyfriend asked for him to politely refill the parmesan when he had a chance and he then again just gave him the dirtiest look. LIKE IM SORRY BUT WE PAID FOR THIS, FOR EVERYTHING AND IT WAS JUST COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I will never sail carnival again. Read Less

Good itinerary, great weather. Ship was a little rusty and our cabin wasn’t that nice. Boarding process at Miami was much improved from my last experience. My biggest complaint was with some of the passengers. Lots of drunk and messy people. Carnival tries to combine the booze cruise type with the family friendly type and they don’t mix. A fight broke out in the cabin next to ours at 1:30am. Do not need to expose my kids to a bunch of drunken idiots. When somebody can hardly walk it might be a good idea to stop serving them drinks. Main dining room was nice, food was good, but the cafeteria was very crowded and hard to find a place to sit down. In general lots of people lots of lines. Comedy club was really good they rotated out the comedians in the middle of the cruise so we didn’t have the same ones every night. Entertainment in the main theater was not that good. The music on the main deck was good but I was hoping for more of a Caribbean vibe, It’s the Caribbean I want steel drums. Read Less

let me start be saying this was a chartered cruise. that being said there are some things that were not carnival's fault but solely the responsibility of the group who sponsored the cruise. this review is only about carnival magic. the cabin was ok, our room steward was friendly and kept our room clean, however he did not do anything to our balcony which was consistently dirty. i had to wipe out chair before i could sit. the bathroom had a persistent sewer smell and the flooring had soft spots that felt like if i stepped on it wrong my foot would go through the floor. there was adequate storage space. the spa was wonderful. i had several massages and enjoyed the steam room and the Thalassotherapy Pool were great. i took advantage of the facilities almost every day of my seven day cruise. dining was ok. the lines were atrocious. on our very first day we tried the seafood shack and they were out of lobster rolls and crab cakes. how is that even possible? running out of food on the first day. it took forever to get served and to find a clean table. meals in the dining room were good. guy's burgers were great and were our go-to when lines were long at the buffet. guy's barbeque place was good too, just needed longer operating hours. service overall (drink servers, table cleaners, etc.) was slow. it usually took 30 minutes or so to get a drink and for a table to be cleared. embarkation was terrible...we stood in line for over 2 hours before we proceeded through the security area then had to wait another hour for wheelchair service. when we reached our room it was ready and keys were available in the box. disembarkation was beyond horrible. after reaching the luggage carousel it took almost three hours for our luggage to arrive. carnival staff could not tell me why there was such a delay and seemed not to care that patrons were getting angry and the area was over-crowded. lastly the next cruisers were delayed because of our disembarkation issues. news agencies were notified and carnival implied that our group was at fault for the delay. i am personally insulted by the implication. furthermore, the waiting cruisers were offered compensation for their delay in embarkation. why we were not offered compensation as we endured the same type of delay? if these delays are consistent each time this ship sails then carnival needs to review their current procedures and implement changes so that cruisers can board the ship at their appointed time. would i go again? on the carnival magic? absolutely not!!! on another newer carnival ship, possibly...but not any time soon!! This was a chartered cruise adventure and i plan to address my issues with that group as well but many problems that i had personally made me want to go home by day 3 of a 7 day adventure. My cabinmates mainly kept our cabin clean prior to service coming in but i was disappointed to see that an obvious makeup spill on my bunk stayed all week which let us know that bedding not changed. Food service lines were ridiculous and menu selections were bad. Dining room service was slow/2 hours to completely get our meals which caused us to miss shows. The entertainment venues were hot and air conditioning was also scarce in other parts of the ship. Mostly, this was an all-adult cruise that we had always had the option of hot tubs 24/7. The pools/hot tubs all shut down at 8p. Embarkment was a nightmare! It took 3 hours to find my final piece of luggage and i embarked in the first group. This was my 12th Carnival cruise and 16th cruise overall. We loved this ship and had a wonderful time. Embarkation was very smooth as I am now platinum and so we basically arrived at the port at 11:30 and practically walked on the ship. Our aft balcony was perfect. We had cabin 9474 as each end of deck 9 and deck 8 have balconies that are much wider than the middle balconies. I booked this cabin over a year in advance as the other end was already booked. We also like to be under the lip of the lido as we prefer a shaded balcony. The hallway is typically quite quiet at the back as well as the only people walking by have cabins in the back. Our stateroom Heri and his assistant Edison were wonderful. The room was clean and very comfortable. My sons had their own inside cabin which was also nice. The ship itself was very similar to the Carnival Breeze and Dream which we loved so I knew that I would like the layout of this ship too. Upon Embarkation, it is ½ happy hour at the Red Frog pub. We also ate at the Guys BBQ as we knew that would be lined up on sea days. It was yummy. The food was excellent. We eat at the main dining room every night. We noticed this crowd to be a lot less casual than other cruises which made the MDR very quiet and the Lido busier at night when we walked through. Each to their own as that is why they have the option. Breakfast in the MDR as well was excellent. Lunch we enjoyed Guy’s burgers and a burrito. We love the deli for a late night snack and very a very late night snack, at 11:30 they would put out some food including a very delicious chicken noodle soup. The ports were all good. We stopped at Amber Cove, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico and Grand Turk. Puerto Rico was by far our favourite. If you are walking to the fort, I recommend the path along the ocean as the views of the wall and ocean were incredible. You will see dozens of beautiful feral cats along the way as well. The sign says that they are captured, fixed and then returned and fed. They weren’t friendly but very sweet to see. The passengers on this voyage seemed like they were from all very different walks of life. They ranged from the very casual to very fancy. Everyone was friendly, polite and courteous. There were lots of kids on this voyage and they were also polite and courteous. My sons were in Circle C and O2 which they loved. They have moved up from the days of Camp Carnival (they are one cruise away from platinum). The youth workers are always wonderful. You would see packs of teenagers walking around together and again they were always respectful. Sometimes we would get a glimpse of my own teens in the groups. The shows were all very good. The singers on this voyage were better than some other ones. We loved all the show but are not a big fan of Flick which other seem to love so my opinion shouldn’t stop others from seeing or enjoying. Comedians were hilarious. Arrive early as it is hard to find a seat right before it starts. John Heald was on this cruise which was so nice to meet him and get my picture with him. Vito the Captain was so friendly and personable. He had no problem posing for a photo with my son and I in Grand Turk. MarQ is wonderful. He is one of my favourites so far and we have sailed with him twice. You can tell that he really loves what he does and wants everyone to have a great time. He was around a lot and so much fun! Debarkation was easy as again, I am platinum. We heard rumblings from our Facebook page that there was an incident in customs and that there was a big delay getting off the ship after us. My only complaint and I know this may sound ridiculous to some is that Carnival eliminated NBC, CBS and ABC on the stateroom TV’s. Now I know that we do not cruise to watch TV but in the morning I like to watch a bit of the Today Show or Good Morning America and at night, I like a bit of the news or evening talk show as well. They have a news channel (not CNN) that is very boring. Other channels are Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network for the kids, HGTV and Food Network. I wish Carnival would bring back NBC, CBS and ABC. I loved this cruise so much. They have an amazing circle c leader, Georgia, she has the humor as a teenager so she gets our jokes. She also lets us have our free time and doesn’t make us do the scheduled activities. She was super nice to us all and was awesome. I would like to see her on my next cruise because she got me into dancing with her when I didn’t want to, but they made me happy. She told me she has been part of carnival for about 2 months and I think she is already a pro. Kids 12-14 will definitely enjoy her on any boat she goes on. MarQ, the cruise director gets everyone pumped up, singing, and dancing at anytime you may see him. The food is amazing and the people are so nice to you. If you want to sleep in, all you have to do is put the snooze sign up and the stewardess won’t bother you. Read Less
