Good Eastern 8 day trip itinerary , Great ports with off setting departure times . Ship was in Great Shape and crew/staff were terrific ,warm and friendly. Dinning was ok/good with no major flaw's, main dinning was accomplish in less than an hour and a half . Buffet items were also ok and with the amount of passengers that ship ship holds, items seemed fresh and not picked over Wife and I attended 2 shows and found them good, Vintage Pop and Soulbound which was our favorite the best , interaction with the players and audience make the show even better , don't want to spoil it but get there earlier for added extra's We do have issue's with what Carnival Horizon has done with the theater and seating thou, depending on where you are seated the view from the 2nd level is limited to viewing the main level as now there are no more fixed row seating on the first level and the show has extended from the stage onto the main level area . So some of the acting is out of view with the current new design if you are seated on the 2nd level . Show last about a half hour Comedy show's where just ok as we did see all comedies that week both their PG and R rated versions . there were 4 total comedies on our cruise 4900 passengers this week with spring break and didn't find the lines terrible... 5-10 mins before a show and seating was pretty easy Up-Charge restaurants were good as usual We did Pig and anchor with live entertainment while dinning , J.J's Asian and Bonsai Teppanyaki with the chief show very funny as he prepared our meal . We also had reservation set for the Steakhouse and when they called to confirm our reservation they informed us that since it was formal night dress shorts would not be allowed but jeans were ok ? As we have always done formal night's on our previous cruises we decided to pass on this cruise and just be lazy and on vacation, we did find this to be very disappointing as we both were looking forward to the Steak house as we have dine there on several other cruises and they are normally very good and worth the charge and did have jeans also but as they made it an unannounced stipulation to dine prior to our reservation made 6 months earlier that just annoyed us as we were the patrons paying additional for this restaurant . so a tip , make sure that its not a formal night when you make your reservation, as this was the first time we encounter an issue if your not planning on bring formal wear. Casinos seem to be paying with several witnessed good jack pot pay outs also speaking with several people thru out the cruise said the tables were friendly also . So go have a great time if your planning a Horizon trip and don't let the small stuff bother you, as we found on this trip there weren't many at all !!! Good Sailing ! Read Less

Year after year Carnival just gets better and better. Carnival Horizon is Carnivals BEST, by far. We had just gotten on board and were waiting for the elevator. The door opens and out comes Shaq. He came to my 88 year old mother and gave her a hug and said a few nice words to her. He shook hands with 8 of us and he was off. About an hour later my mom and I were in the Pixels area and he saw my mom again. He walked over to her and gave her another hug and said " there's my friend again". He was so nice to her. I asked him if he could stand next to my mom for a picture, which he gladly did. He is such a great person. We had a Havana Cabana cabin and loved it. I had the exact same cabin number on the Vista when it first came to Miami. Our cabin was always spotless and so close to so much. Deck 5 is one of the main decks with so much to do. We were disappointed to find out SkyRide was not working but with so much to do, it really didn't matter. The kids with us had a great time at Waterworks and the pool. Guy's BBQ place was awesome. The food is great and the new Microbrewery beers were great. We had dinner the first night at Fahrenheit 555. The staff was fantastic and the food was some of the best I have ever eaten. One appetizer had bone marrow with it. I have never tasted anything so good before. My medium well Cowboy steak was perfect and was juicy and tasted great, too. My entire family, 12 of us, loved everything. A cruise on board the Carnival Horizon MUST include at least one dinner at Fahrenheit 555, the best of the best. I have been to Nassau so many times that I stayed on board with my mom who is in a wheel chair. I didn't want to take her off the ship there. We just sat by the Havana pool area and relaxed, it was great for me. Everybody else has a nice time in Nassau. The Carnival Horizon is so much fun and an AWESOME ship. Read Less

While I can venture to say that I have been on better ships, it doesn't mean that this ship didn't serve the purpose of what was needed! First and foremost, I prefer a Guys Burger Joint Burger over a regular Lido deck burger! This is included in your price which is great. Additionally, the Blue Iguana bar that serves "Chipotle Style" taco bowels and burritos are great! The Captain's Suite needs it's own review, which I will give, but for the most part I am happy with the investment we made to treat ourselves with this suite for our milestone. We are Gold members, but received a lot of Diamond and Platinum benefits as a result of the Port Side suite we stayed in! The islands were wonderful! The time of year we went and the porting times made the weather perfection to walk around and tour! I have been to San Juan, Puerto Rico a few times and really didn't think I'd appreciate any more the island had to offer and was surprised that I bypassed a BOATLOAD of fun with Senor Frogs! The ONLY thing I will say is I thought the Cruise Director wasn't as visible and a bit dry for my taste, however that is a totally subjective remark! Different Strokes for Different Folks and according to DISC Assessment, I'm an "I" personality, so Dustin needed a few more gestures, exclamation points, and overall extraness to win my affection! I didn't mind those things too much because of the nature of our trip and our desire to take in our Captain's Suite as much as possible! I didn't love the pastries or cookies, they are always seriously dry, but the other foods on the Lido and in the restaurants were amazing! Read Less

The service on the cruise was outstanding. My waiter Ciprian or chip was amazing always made sure we had everything we needed. Everyone on the cruise was very welcoming handbags helpfu. Getting on and off the ship went very smoothly. There was 8 of us that cruises on the splendor, they always made sure to give us all the space we needed. The cruise gave us options once you got off the ship such as excursions and restaurants to go eat at or see. Entertainment on the ship was amazing. The shows on the ship they would do we’re so much fun and you could even talk to the cast afterwards. They were so sweet and fun to be around. The comedy shows we’re hilarious and they had family shows too so everyone can watch them. Certain nights they would hold deck parties and play music and just dance all night. On other nights they would hold movies out on the deck where everyone could lay out and watch them it was awesome. Read Less

We had an amazing time on the Carnival Dream. The staff was amazing. We loved all the bartenders, when you passed staff members they always greeted you with a smile. Our most favorite was our waitress Olivia. She was beyond amazing and we made sure to ask for her every night. If you are ever on the dream and eat in the cremson dining be sure to ask for her. Food was good some days and not so great other days, but their was always something you could find to eat that you would like. The only problem I had was some peoples children walking around with their foul language mouths and rude, which is not carnivals problem but the parents problem. Loved the comedy shows, they played movies at night on the lido deck, they had an 80s party and a mega deck party. Overall, we had an amazing time and will definitely do it again. The only bummer was we couldn't go to mahogany bay because of the bad weather Read Less

I traveled a few of the Carnival ships this was just another, or I thought, till I spent a week with her. Great time, great crew. It was an easy embarkation- went from signing in at the check in to the Lido deck for a quick bite. Then to our cabin to unpack. Followed by a quick muster. From there we met with our meet and great group had a few drinks, followed by a return to our cabin to change for dinner at the Golden Restaurant. Then to the Amber Palace theater for a spectacular show, The Welcome Aboard Show which featured the three shows that were to be presented on our cruise. Followed by Ewart at the piano in the Cinn A Bar and a sing along by the rest of us. Then topped the evening off at the casino. We finally got back to the cabin after a wonderful first day, not a sea day yet, tomorrow begins all the fun at sea. More to follow. Read Less

We just returned this past week from a 5 day Western cruise with Carnival Triumph out of New Orleans (Monday-Saturday). We've cruised many times on Carnival and other cruise lines, we always come back to Carnival for the fun atmosphere, good food and friendly staff. This was our 2nd trip on the Carnival Triumph. Our first was a few years ago with the grand suite, this time around we tried the ocean suite since it was just 2 of us. The room was an adequate size for 2 adults. Lots of space to and storage to put all of your belongings. Our cabin steward was Randy, very hospitable and good with taking care of our our room while we were away from the cabin, etc. The food for this trip was noticeable that the buffet's food wasn't as we remember with food quality - for example, on one day with fried chicken on the buffet, it doesn't look as though food is kept fresh/switched out periodically during the time it's sitting at the buffet. The fried chicken was so dried out and hard, we couldn't eat it. Also, this was a 5 day trip, so there was no lobster/steak night. My husband opted to purchase it on one of our dinner nights and was happy with the steak, but he said the lobster was overcooked/rubbery. Not worth the $20 extra that he paid for it. I ate a couple of times at the pay for seafood restaurant - lobster rolls $11 (they were good) once, and the fried seafood platter another time $10 - the oil I don't think is hot enough because their french fries on both orders were very greasy. They auto charge gratuity for whatever you order at this place, so be aware when you sign and it asks for tip. The chinese food and the deli sandwich shop are both good. The rueben at the deli shop was my husbands favorite. Also, we can't forget about Guy's hamburger place - everywhere you looked, there was a Guy's hamburger that someone was eating. They are really good, so I was glad it was onboard to quickly grab a good burger. The blue iguana cantina had good huevos rancheros ready each morning at 7am, so I visited them for breakfast often. They also have a good taco salad during lunch. Also, brunch on seadays from 8am-12:30 is the best breakfast with steak and eggs, pork chops, don't miss this breakfast in the Paris dining room. For entertainment, the comedian show was always packed, so get there early if you want to get a seat. We didn't get to go to the Rome Lounge for the show, but I remember there were 2 nights - Tuesday with music and dance styles from around the world at 7 & 9pm. on Wed, there was a vegas style magical show at 7 & 9pm. Overall, the ship is kept very clean, lots of activities (more than you can do on the 5 day cruise), friendly people on board, very diverse group of people with everyone having a good time and enjoying themselves. Embarkation and debarkation was very smooth - the quickest we've ever experience at the Port of New Orleans for debarkation. We were happy with the cruise and service from everyone and was able to relax and enjoyed this trip. We'll be back on board again in December! Read Less

Embarkation, well I guess that makes me start with the tough part. We were in the terminal literally sitting butt cheek to butt cheek and knee to knee and I am not as limber or small as I used to be. The crew was very nice and accommodating, They brought us snacks and bottled water. We sailed cheap so we were some of the last called to board. We were informed we could bring 12 soda and 12 bottles of water.. they took our water. Once on the ship, food everywhere and everything was so knew, we were just taking it all in. We smoked so we spent quite a bit of time in the casino and smoking area.. HaHa we could see the nightly movie from the smoking area. I was so concerned eating was going to be a hassle but I couldn't have been more wrong. The Blue iguana, Burgers, BBQ, Pizza and Ice cream on tap pretty much when you wanted.. 24 hour room service.. did I say free??.. haha.. We ate in the Dinning room one night, otherwise we were going.. It was great too.. the waiter even offered to get me more when he delivered the first lobster tail... The buffet & fruit on it was fresh and open every time I was hungry, but that's not all day though.. The crew was awesome. I felt like I was priority to them.. There was always cleaning going on.. My porter, I cant say enough about Marvin. He was great. He always left us surprises in the room, and I think there was a camera, because if we left for an hour or so, we came back and he had the room spotless.. We go cheap. Our room was an interior, but how much are you really in your room. We have debated ocean view, balcony or suits, but we really aren't sailing to be in our rooms. Our room was about as central to the ship as it could be. We received, I believe, as good service as anyone in any suit on the ship.. Cloud 9 maybe in the future, but that's about it. We bought bubbles but really we could have done without it. We may have had a 12 pack of soda between us. We brought cups from Universal studios that we would fill and sip on.. I really wish sweet tea was available. The hot tubs were great except I wish they were hotter.. Pools were great but I didn't bother the youngens much.. The sky walk was great and water slide cool.. they close at night so get to it during the day. Skywalk views are amazing. We really didn't see any shows but we did do the parade with Cat in the Hat and Thing 1&2.. We plan to see more shows in the future. I must have played enough in the casino because they started giving me free drinks and sent me premier offers after the cruise. So I guess we really enjoy the casino. They had several games I enjoyed but I wish they had cascading games. Ohh and they gave us chocolate covered strawberry's 2x.. I don't know exactly who sent them but who is complaining. Room again.. You know I hear a lot of folks concerned about clocks, alarm clocks and the darkness in the room at night. Night lights..etc.... There are channels on the TV, you can watch where we are going and see whats going on at the main pool.. Live action.. If I remember right, it had the local time and forecasts. Otherwise, the tv on gives off light. The bathroom has a light and you can close it to adjust the light. Who needs to bring a light? or clock on vacation. We may take our watches again, but other than getting to the timed events and the ship before it leaves us, who cares what time it is. We didn't do much at St Maartin.. but the others we had a great time. I think the most fun at PortoRico.. You can always buy a bottle to drink once you are off the ship.. wow that sounds bad.. But you don't need to spend the high prices on the ship. We did have a couple drinks but we saved money by not getting the drink package and using that in the casino. That is about what I spent in the casino.. The alcohol package for two. We probably spent about $150 on Drinks on the ship including souvenir for Melissa. You can buy alcohol duty free cheap on the ship and it is delivered to your room the night before departure. You can also buy cigarettes cheaper than anywhere duty free.. but you are limited to how many you can bring back. They have sales on different stuff. we bought some shirts, hats and also you can get bathing covers for women pretty reasonable. We will probably get some this time too. Read Less

This was our first time sailing on Carnival and we loved it! We had heard negative reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. The crew was friendly and helpful. We had no issues arriving or leaving the ship. Our cabin was clean and extremely comfortable for two. We had the anytime dining and never had to wait for a table longer than 20 minutes. We had a party of four and had a table by the windows 3 out of 4 times we ate in the dining room. The buffet was perfect for breakfast and lunch. I would not recommend the buffet for dinner. We were able to save lounge chairs near the pool on sea days without any issues. We would choose our chairs prior to going for breakfast. Carnival has several lounge chairs available for those who want to sun themselves during sea days. We traveled during spring break and found the spring breakers to be acting appropriately and respectful. I would recommend this cruise line and I will personally travel on Carnival again, Read Less

A friend of mine mentioned he and his wife were going to celebrate their 30th anniversity & my wife and me were coming up on our 25th anniversity. So we decided to surprise her and take our first time ever cruise to theBahamas. My friends had never met my wife prior to (Co workers). We planned to get her on board with out her knowing she was going on cruise. I had paid for it via a Walmart credit card and had my daughter help her pack for "Charleston week" we kept telling her we would be there the whole week and then over dinner my Friend Joe and Karen mentioend how his cousin "Larry" was retiring from the first mate position and it was a big deal, so Joe Karen and I also told her we were going to a bed and breakfast place Sunday check in at 3:30 but we were going to Larry's retirement party that moring, Joe and I reloaded the luggage and came back to pick up the girls. Well Joe and Karen went in front of us and would tell each point the fast version that it was our first cruise and we would be going to "Larrry's retirement party" and they would say, have a great time at Larry's party. We even had Joe pay for the parking in front of us so when we pulled up they said oh don't worry Larry already has you covered, have a great time at the party. Joe and Karen managed to stay just enough ahead of us so when we got up to a check point they would smile and say, have a goodtime at the party! Once we made it into the atrium one of the crew members walked up to us and asked are you Emily? She said yes, she said. Congratulations your going to the Bahamas! The ship was awsome, the cabin stewad "Poe" ( E152) was great he did extra stuff for us, iced down the water bottles and made sure we had silverware and plaplate for our anniversity cake and was super happy all the time. The dining room waiter (Hari) was too good to us, he was always dancing and singing to himmself, really made the experience special. ( he kept bringing out food we lmuch) Wow did he take good care of us, he was over the top; service . It was the best service I have ever had at any resturant. Kunyakorn was extremely friendly and gave us terrific service there too. Every single service person was never impatient, unbelievable. We had the best vacation of all time on the Carnival Fantasy cruise ship Nov 8-13-2015. The Bahamas. Private island dolphin swim and beach day and all inclusive reef snorkel beach shopping excursions. They were excellent - we enjoyed them tremendously! Great job! The cruiseship crew really made this so great, that was the best part of the trip; everyone was so nice, from the boarding to debarking this was the best trip we had ever had. Very cool! Keeping this a secret for 6 months was hard. Our travel agent kept me up to speed with deals and was great! Again this was the best experience on a vacation we had bar none. I don't know about other cruise lines but this was excellent! And I think I won few husband points for all of the carnival team's efforts. You guys really made it special. Thanks so much! If your thinking about taking a cruise I can say they were fantastic to us the whole trip. Highly reccomend! Activities and events were well planned and we just enjoyed hanging out and enjoying the whole experience. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever. Our cruise started on 25/09/2015 and was fantastic from the very start to the very end. We had originally booked for 5/8/15 but told after booking that the ship was in dry dock and had to reschedule. I purposely didn't book the first two cruises after dry dock because I wanted any problems with the refurbishment to be ironed out, and reading the reviews I did the right thing. Our cabin on deck 7 number 7212 which is midship and very close to the stairs and lifts was fantastic, very quiet and very clean. We mainly ate in the Empire dining room which was fantastic, we had any time dining which was great. We had the same waiter team each night (Joel and Anamaria and their team) were the best. We would ask their recommendations on the food and they were pretty well on the ball. They sometimes even brought us an extra serve so we could both try. The last night we payed extra and dined in the nouveau restaurant, we were a bit disappointed with the food as the lobster we bought on Mystery Island was so tasty and fresh we expected the lobster in the nouveau restaurant to be just as good and it wasn't. The comedians were a little disappointing but the stage shows were fantastic and having multiple shows of each every night was great. The different activities each day during fun at sea days were well organised and ran well, including the ice sculpture demonstration, the pamper session, the cooking demonstration in the nouveau restaurant we even got to sample the cooking, and many other activities. The one criticism I have is there was only one table tennis table on board and a few more would have been good as we didn't get to have a go at table tennis. We did play a lot of mini golf which we did enjoy each day. During our cruise because of the amount of great food we ate we decided to only take the stairs when moving about on the ship. We only left the lifts for the first and last days when we had our hand luggage. This was a great choice for us as we didn't put on much weight during our cruise. We also kept moving during the cruise going from one activity to another, we didn't lounge around much at all. We only booked 3 on shore excursions through carnival because most were expensive. The first we bought was on Vila the Cascade waterfalls which was worth the money, we later found out that others went there with a taxi that they payed for after leaving the ship and was cheaper but they had to pay extra after arriving at the falls to enter. Mystery Island my husband payed for a fishing trip from an islander that he payed $40 for instead of $170 or more from carnival on other islands, he didn't catch any fish but he may not have caught anything on the ship booked fishing trip either. We bought a lobster from the islanders for $40 which was the freshest and tastiest we have ever tasted the same size lobster in Adelaide would have costed us $130. Mare we payed $20 for a shuttle to the beach through carnival this is a must and the beach was beautiful and worth the money. Isle of pines we organised a tour when we got off the ship. We payed $15 each and the islander took us around the island showing us most of the same destinations that the carnival tour did. He was very friendly and informative and the tour took about 50 minutes. The rest of the day we walked around the markets and the shore. Noumea we booked a tour at the tourist building where we got dropped off we ended up having a private tour around Noumea including the lookouts. The guide was very informative, he told us to take our time every time he stopped at a sight, the van he drove was fairly new and we were very happy we waited and bought this tour off the ship. The last tour we booked through carnival was back in Sydney after we finished the cruise. This tour was meant to take us around Sydney and show us Bondi beach. We are not from Sydney and this would have been a good way to see Sydney and then get dropped off at the airport after the tour. Unfortunately due to a medical emergency and the delay in arriving in Sydney the tour got cancelled. However due to the cancellation Carnival placed us straight on to an airport transfer which we absolutely appreciated. The night time entertainment on the whole was fantastic however some of the comedians weren't all that funny. The on stage performances on the other hand were fantastic we thoroughly enjoyed them. We were a little concerned after realising we had booked our cruise during the school holidays and it was just the two of us. The first and last day we noticed a lot of children running around however every other day the kids clubs seemed to keep them busy or the parents had them well controlled we are not sure but we barely saw the kids during the cruise and we didn't even spend much time in the adults only area. The kids we saw were well behaved and kurtosis to us oldies (almost 50 years old) Well done kids. The one thing that we have realised was that the weather does play a big part in having a great cruise. On our cruise the first couple of days were a little rough and a few people we talked to later felt like jumping over board due to sea sickness however we both suffer from motion sickness so came prepared and pre purchased Phenergan from the pharmacy prior to boarding and we took this each night before bed which gave us a great sleep and we didn't feel sea sick at all. The rest of the cruise was smooth sailing and beautiful weather. All in all this cruise was fantastic and would love to do another cruise someday. We just need to save up our pennies as we would love to do the Alaska cruise. Thank you Carnival Spirit for a great cruise Read Less

This was our fourth cruise flying from the Gold Coast to board the ship in Sydney so as to experience the departure from Sydney Harbor which was worth it. Previously we have done the 7 nights South Pacific on the Pacific Dawn an excellent cruise and would recommend, 10 nights around the Eastern Mediterranean on the Crown Princess, another lovely cruise that we would highly recommend with beautiful food, 12 nights around the Western Mediterranean on the Norwegian Jade a bright fun ship again with excellent services and food and we were looking forward to, This next 15 nights around the East Coast of Australia and on to Singapore, as my wife was recovering from a Breast Cancer operation on the Carnival Spirit. Leaving from Sydney and going to Singapore (we were notified after departing, that it was for some minor upgrades and resteraunt renovations) via Brisbane, Airlie Beach, Darwin, Lombok, and Bali (wherein all the passengers, including children, whether going ashore or not, were automatically charged $50 each for being in Indonesian Waters). On boarding our first comment was she is old and in need a major renovation but thought it was still to be the fun ship. The meals at best were only very average, and not all the restaurants were operating. It is the only time I consistantly received burnt, or at least over cooked Eggs Benedict for breakfast and the free coffee from the Buffet area had a tannin taste to it, so we bought espresso which was ok. After waking and showering on the first morning of the cruise, I noticed little flea like bite marks on my chest but thinking it must have just been bed louse did nothing about it. Other people on board were complaining of sore throats and so again, just thought it was a bug going around, then on hearing of others who had gone to the doctor who had prescibed antibiotics with little if no benificial effect, further believed it was a virus that would run its course in a few days. Around ten days later I came down with a severe fever and was to ill to leave the cabin but still believing it to be a virus battled on. We eventually disembarked at Singapore and was then admitted to the Raffles Hospital on an emergency basis, gravely ill, with Typhus fever (this bug I am told, for people over 60, has a fatality rate world wide of around 60% and is transmitted by bites from rat fleas and is not air borne and has an incubation period of 7 to 10 days). On our return home I wrote to Carnival Guest Relations to advise of my experience and further advise that I had also been advised that a friend had overheard whilst in an Emergency department of her local hospital, of another patient in the cubicle next to her, who was being tested for Tyfus Fever, she evidently had also just come off the Carnival Spirit after a cruise to Singapore that departed Sydney on the 1st of August. There reply was to say, sorry we wern't happy with the cruise, but regrettably they cannot be held responsible for illnesses incured whilst on board. I should also add, that another guest broke their ankle while going on the water slide $3,200 in onboard medical fees was the figure that did the rounds. The ship did have all the basic offerings: Kids Club, Casino, Theatre, Shops, Shore excursions etc. and the staff were really nice trying their best to make the trip enjoyable. Don't get us wrong we love cruising and will again but we will NOT cruise with Carnival again. We had already booked another trip on the Carnival Ledgend to Hawaii but this has since been cancelled as a result of our first and only experience with Carnival, which was a shame, as a first timer could wrongfully prejudge other cruise lines by this ship and the attitude of Carnival, which would be grossly unfair!! We always got in line around 5:30 to make sure we got tables and also sat at the community tables where we met some amazing people as well. We used room service, which was prompt! The shows where the performers danced and sang was phenomenal. We had joined a page with people whom were going on the ship as well as I, and we met a lot of people whom we hung out with through the length of the cruise. I am definitely gonna be going on another cruise (i'll give it 2 years so we can save money on the side each paycheck) so we can definitely do what we want. Please, Carnival Freedom ship was great!!! Just an all around great experience. Read Less

Carnival Spirit was my 8th cruise but my first as an "adult" onboard. I went with my boyfriend and another couple. We were 21 and 23. It was my boyfriends first cruise. I knew I would love it but I was a little worried to see whether my boyfriend would. He did... we absolutely loved it and less then a fortnight after we had disembarked we had another cruise booked!! Embarkation day: We were on the ship by 12pm. We had lunch at the buffet. Our room was ready straight away. We had a lovely day in Sydney too which made it extra nice! We had dinner in the main dining room on the first night and went to the late show. The first two days out of Sydney were cool but warm enough to enjoy the ship. We were lucky the whole voyage which great weather (especially as it was winter in Sydney!). The first morning we had breakfast in the main dining room and the second morning we had room service. The second night we had the State of Origin on a live feed in the show lounge. The big NRL fan's on the ship were very impressed. It was a fun night. They split the show lounge into QLD and NSW and gave each side red/blue glow sticks. After the footy we went to the Piano Bar. I think we may have gone here every night actually. It was so much fun signing along to old and new songs. We had an absolute ball every night! From the third day onwards we went to Isle of Pines, Mystery Island, Villa, Santo and Wala. We were very lucky and had great weather at each port. Having been on a couple South Pacific cruises previously I did not pre book tours. In fact I found that each port had the same tours the cruise line offered for half the price. Day 3: Isle of Pines Isle of Pines was a little windy. We only spent half the day at the port as it was too cold to lie on the beach. The locals put on a nice dance ceremony for everyone which was very fun to watch. We had a really fun day after the port. We tendered back on the ship for a late lunch in the buffet again and spent the rest of the day sun baking on the serenity deck and in the spa. We didn't find it as windy on the ship which was great. We also tested out both the slides today which was very fun! Everyone at all ages must have a go on both of them! We had a lazy afternoon laying in one of the pods and watched the ship sale away from Isle of Pines. Dinner was at the main dining room again. The show this evening was the hypnotist. It was hilarious. We were sceptics so we went to both shows as we wanted to compare. We popped into the early show, were super impressed and then had a quick dinner so we could make it to the late show. In the late show my boyfriend went up on stage and the hypnotist actually worked! It was hilarious. It 100% worked.. somehow!!! Day 4: Mystery Island Today was much warmer. We all got a bit too much sun but had an amazing day. The snorkelling was fantastic. We went to both sides of the island. We also had a look around the little markets and spent time with the local kids. We also played mini golf on the top deck just before the ship sailed away. This night was our friend’s birthday. We went to the Nouveau restaurant. It is definitely worth going. The meals and deserts were sensational. Day 5: Port Villa We went to the Cascade Waterfalls. We didn’t book a tour with the ship, we just went onto the dock and had lots of people offering to take us there. There was a government building near the entrance to the town which had a display on the window for how much we should pay the locals to take us to each of the tourist destinations. Much cheaper to do it this way - but if you don’t get back, the ship will sail off…! So it is a gamble. We met a man who drove us and picked us up a couple hours later. Was a good day. Was fun and beautiful. Bit of a walk into the waterfalls thought. From memory I think it cost $25 entry each. In town is also a very good and popular place to do duty free shopping. You can’t take the alcohol back onboard with you, you get it when you get back into Sydney. Day 6: Santo We had a little problem the night before.. Too many cocktails and too late a night meant that we only got off the ship for five minutes..! Unfortunately we wasted the day at the port but had fun on the ship anyway. I think it was the hottest day yet. We heard the Blue Lagoon was amazing. Again that could be bought on the pier for half the price. Day 7: Wala - FAVOURITE DAY! I woke up early this morning to a little bit of discomfort. About two months prior to sailing I snapped my ACL while playing netball so had to have a knee reconstruction. Luckily though for me, there was a fantastic gym on board that I could go to to give my knee some exercise and stretching. It was very good. A cleaning lady was picking up all the towels and wiping down the machines at all times. There was also a personal trainer who I think made exercise plans and diets for clients. The music was also good, not to mention the view! After the gym, had some break and went straight onto the Island to discover Wala. I had never been here so was very keen to go and explore. Wala is beautiful and was my favourite island by far. We were lucky to get great weather again. The beach was beautiful, the ship was very close. A great photo opportunity! The locals had lots of little stores set up. The girls drank some coconuts and the boys drank some kava..! We had a little massage and went on a tour around the local village. We also went out in a little boat to go to a secluded area to snorkel. Seventh night was our Mexican night. Not enough people dressed up. I think Carnival should advise the guests on book the themes as everyone missed the ‘Caribbean Night’ which was on the second night.. The only good thing about the theme this night was that we had Mexican food which was delicious. So delicious that we all had two mains and two entrées!!! Day 8: Sea Day The smoothest sea day EVER! Spent majority of the day on our balcony. We had the ice carving demonstration today which was fun to watch on deck. We had the formal night tonight. Lots of people got dressed up which was nice compared to the theme nights. In the dining room this night the wait staff had a song and dance which was very entertaining. We also went to the night club for the first time. It was full of the younger teens but it was very fun still. On the last day, disembarkation was too quick! I didn't want to get off. But it was very smooth for people who had to get flights elsewhere. Overall, we had an amazing holiday. Faults: - Food used to be better. It was lacking a little but the staff onboard make up for it with there great attitudes. - Drinks are very expensive. A drinks package would be more appropriate for guests. - Entertainment could be improved. - Needs more activities during the day. - Bingo can get VERY expensive.. - Photos looked so good but were very expensive. Tips: - bring a power board so you can charge numerous things at once. - bring drink bottles with a wide neck, fill them up with ice and take them on shore. The ice will eventually melt and you will have lovely cold water all day. Would love to go on another Carnival cruise in Australia. It is a shame that the Legend will be almost identical to the Spirit. I probably won't sail on an identical ship though. Read Less

Sailed on Splendor 4/8 - 4/16 from NYC... OK... A little background details about myself. 5th cruise on Carnival, but 14th overall. Others have included Princess, HAL, Cunard & Seabourn. My last cruise on Carnival was 2004 & I greatly enjoyed it. I sailed on the Legend and I loved the ship and the cruise overall however I wanted to try other lines plus I have no kids and like relaxing more then parting so HAL/Seabourn/Cunard fit the bill better. I picked the cruise to take my family (siblings & the parent of 2 of my siblings, but not my parent) on their first cruise. I'm always talking about cruising and just CruiseTalk all the time that it was time to drag them on one. I chose Carnival because of a few reasons. While not my personal favorite, I had enjoyed my previous cruises with them, it sailed from NYC, and we live in NYC. The itinerary was nice, I'd done it 2 times before, and Carnival does deliver what they promise of Fun For All... So everyone in my family would have things to do. So Done Deal! Embarkation: Super quick. 20 Minutes from getting out of our car and into the ship. I've sailed out of NYC too many times, both the west side and Brooklyn. We arrived at around noon. However.... we had priority embarkation because we were in suites so that is why it was fast. However... it was disorganized. I actually waited in one line for a few minutes until someone came and took us to the front because we had priority. There were limited signs. Pier 92 is way better... but the Russian billionaire with his big yacht is parked there till further notice. Cabin: We had 2 suites... An Ocean Suite and a Grand Suite. Grand suite was for 3 people, and Ocean suite was for two. Small suites compared to HAL or Cunard and even some Princess ships but I knew that coming in. They were great though. Most time was spent in the Grand Suite. I had not originally booked the suites and was upgraded a few weeks before by Carnival... however I later found out my company had paid for the upgrades for me as a gift. They just need bigger TV's in all rooms. But no issues with the cabin. The Grand Suite was even able to accommodate a little cocktail party I hosted at Sail Away from St Thomas. Not all so spacious, but not cramped either, & we had about 15 people. Ship: I did not like the ship. I could live with the "Pink Ship" that has been coined for it, however I felt it wasn't flow friendly. Several areas had hallways, stairs and rooms that lead people to one area that was too narrow and would back up "traffic". If you live in NYC or NJ, I compared it to the Holland Tunnel on the Jersey Side. Like 12 lanes of traffic that have to at the end converge into just 2 lanes of the Holland Tunnel & overall I did not like the layout. I hated were the Steakhouse was located. Such a challenge to get there. You learn the layout after a few days... but the term I coined and a few people agreed with me is the ship isn't "flow friendly". People traffic just doesn't flow. It backs up. Did like the covered dome over the mid ship pool. That was nice, my siblings loved the slide, the poolside TV, and the pools. Serenity deck should have a hot tub at least. Ports: San Juan, St Thomas, Grand Turk. For me its been there done that, but for my family it was their first time going to these places. San Juan I got a private car. This super super super super nice guy. I have his card and info if anyone wants to use him, just email me... (ga0610@aol.com) and as soon as I unpack. I mean he was so patient with the girls which aren't easy in my family. For $50 a person, he took us to the Bacardi Rum Factory, escorted us to get the free admissions, waited for us by the bar while we did the tour, took us to El Morro, waited for us again, then drove us around old and new San Juan showing us a few highlights and then I had asked for REAL Puerto Rican Food! Not tourist stuff, but where the locals go. We went deep to straight up localville. Food was super cheap and super good, even the picky kids were happy. People were sooo friendly, and since he had been so patient with us all day, like 4 hours already, I asked him to join us for dinner. He started conversations, spoke English with no problem, even though I speak Spanish, he was super super nice. We then got back to the port and we saw some cops, we chatted with them and were so friendly that me and little brother wrangled a few pictures on there cop bikes. - St Thomas: I had booked para-sailing on my own, not the cruise line. However it was canceled due to high winds. I was really bummed as I really wanted my family to enjoy it. Anyway... we ended up in Coki beach as we had a large roll call group on CC and we all just hit it off right off the bat that many had said they were going to Coki so we went and joined them there. Got a bunch of chairs, umbrellas for cheap and you can buy food and drinks right on the beach & they will bring them to you. We then headed back to Havensight, did some shopping and back to the ship we went. - Grand Turk: Got the cabana at Margaritaville and just relaxed there all day with fellow roll call members. Food: The steakhouse food was excellent. Made reservations for one night, ended up there 2 more nights. It was just excellent. MDR food was good or ok, depending on what you got. Lido food sucked. I think I ate there once or twice at most. Though the burgers were really good. Room service menu is limited but it was actually good. Ordered room service many times and was never disappointed. I heard pizza was good, but just stick to the pizza. My brother who isn't picky with food and would rather eat what he doesn't like instead of wasting food actually threw out the Calzone type thing he ordered. My siblings which love chocolate were not impressed with the chocolate buffet in the terms of taste. Presentation was cool but that's about it. Punchliner brunch was a hit and miss. Pancakes are good, don't order a bagel toasted or it comes out rock hard, stay away from the eggs. Didn't try anything else. Bacon comes out really greasy, but it wasn't bad actually. Just don't have a heart condition. (LOL) Service: Ok... Here comes the tricky one. There was no median with service. We either got someone who went above and beyond, or someone who was just trash. Now... the company I work for went above and beyond (I learned after I boarded) in working with Carnival to make sure we were treated amazingly and everything went smoothly. My company sent us dozens of things for bon voyage, bottles of wine, champagne, fruit baskets as well as covering the entire on board expense I was to rack up. The cruise director sent us wine, the cruise line sent us wine bottles to our MDR tables, the hotel director sent chocolate covered strawberries and my very first ship on a stick :-).... Malcolm Burns, the cruise director called us to make sure all was good, and stewards were amazing, the Steakhouse staff was just superb, the senior Maitre' D (Vivek) was ridiculously attentive and visited us several times in the MDR during, breakfast, brunch, lunches and dinners. Guest services was being a little difficult in helping me organize the cocktail party in the suite and one quick word with Vivek and he said "DONE"... I'll take care of it and sure did. Everywhere I went on the ship, senior member of the staff knew my name and greeted me and my family all by names... it was a great touch. Now... just because I was getting that treatment, I wasn't expecting it. I did not board the ship expecting it, yet from my previous Carnival Cruises, the staff have always been friendly and attentive. Many staff members who I did not deal with on a regular basis, like bartenders, the bar staff taking drink orders, lido staff, while some were so nice and funny and sweet, some were just down right nasty that they just left a bad taste in your mouth and ruined your day. I wasn't doing this cruise for myself, but for my family. I was not the one Carnival was trying to convince to like cruising and come back, it was my family who needed convincing, but some crew were just NASTY! About half way through the cruise I had a problem which began several hours before and escalated as the evening passed. I was on the Cheers program, even though my company was covering expenses, I did not find out till the first sea day, so I had purchased the cheers program the night we sailed out. Now...regardless of them paying for my on board charges, Again, I was not expecting it. I had put down my credit card, I had determined I would spend a certain amount of MY money, and being my families first cruise, I had no limit. Whatever they wanted, we would get and that was that. That was the mentality I went into for this cruise. Now... me being in the cheers program... I understood that if I got a drink, it was not charged and went towards my 15 drinks a day, however if I wanted to buy drinks for others, I could be charged at regular prices for the additional drinks... & until day 4, that was the case and there was NO PROBLEM. So when I bought drinks for friends or family, we had no issues. On the 4th day... I was in the casino with a friend from the roll call. I wanted a drink and offered her one as well. So the server comes, I tell him, "I'm on the Cheers, so one drink for me, and whatever she wants just charge it". He goes and comes back and tells me, Sorry! Can't do it and proceeds to walk away. So I called him back, "How come?" I asked. He replies... "I don't know". So I'm like seriously, but alright who can i speak so I can ask? He says, "The bar manager but he is too busy so I'm not going to call him". I said "Ok, Wow, but fine, where can I find him so I can speak to him?" He just points to the bar in the casino. So I walk over and ask why is the server telling me this when I have had no issues till now. He says I don't know, new rules, and he can't do anything about it. I'm not the fighting type, I will ask to speak to people. So... I brush it off... I'm heading to the showroom with the friend I was in the casino with, plus i'm meeting her family, another family, my family and a couple. We had the entire row. In my mind I said, just forget the casino thing, I'll order the drinks in the showroom, I haven't had any problems there and the servers have been super nice there. So the server comes, "I would like my drink from the cheers, and I'm buying a few people drinks, so whatever they want, put it on my card" Now what happen next is now kind of a blur to me because I got so mad. He took the order, then came back and said NO! Can't Do It! & just started walking away. Before he gets and further, I say "Can I ask you a question" & he says, NO! I'm too busy to answer questions and turns away. My Blood Boiled! My siblings lost it, the people around me were like WTF... All I remember is one of my sister started yelling at him. I got up and bolted for the front desk. So I get to the front desk... and I said I'm trying to buy drinks, I'm not arguing to pay, I'm not trying to get anything for free, I'm not trying to get money back, I'm not even paying for this, so why is it that I'm being very rudely told I can't get drinks If I'm willing to pay for them? What company turns money away? This woman says "I don't know, I really can't help you with that, You have to speak to the Senior Bar Manager but she isn't available at the moment". I look at he and tell her... "I'm not moving from here till I speak to her, so I would appreciate it if you call her now because I'm not asking for anything for free from Carnival, my company clearly did all these things to make my life easier so if they are paying EVERYTHING I SPEND without question or limit, then there is NO REASON for me to need to milk Carnival for anything. She saw my tone has started to increase, and while I didn't mean it, once you get to a frustration level, you can't help it. She called the lady and the problem was corrected, I was profoundly apologized too, but the fact that some staff were THAT rude, and not only to me but many members of our roll call experienced similar situations of extremely nasty people and many people we met expressed similar situations. I felt later on I may have made the issue bigger then it really was, however, I was disrespected as a guest, and embarrassed in front of other fellow guests, family and friends and that bothered me greatly. Not to mention that about a dozen people, even up until the point of getting into our limo in the port leaving the ship, recognized me because they were sitting around me in the showroom when the final incident happen and asked me what did Carnival do to make the situation right. Thanks to my company... I was treated incredibly well... but I feel that had that not been the case, the service I would have experienced, would have been more in line with some of our fellow roll call members who adjusted tips and had more issues with more crew. I've noticed that has been a recurring role with past reviews though so I should have listened. Entertainment: One deck party was really cool, the first one when sailing San Juan. The second one is when sailing Grand Turk which I think they should reconsider. Barely anyone showed up to it and they ended it 20 minutes after it started. Now from reviews I heard the production show VROOM is really good, but I missed it because that was the day I had the incident. The show on the second formal night was very good IMO. A Latin theme it was. For some reason I can't remember the first formal night show which can't be good. All other entertainment is pretty standard, just depends on what you like to do or participate in such as pool games and such. Malcolm Burns the cruise director is quite funny, my family loved him so when he called my room I did swell his head with compliments because they loved him and that's all that mattered to me, that they were happy. Some supporting staff such as the guy in charge of comedy (Dominic) was funny. There was one comedian, Percy Cruz II, he was just a wonderful highlight to the cruise. His shows would get packed very early and they would be forced to close the doors because the room would just get filled well over capacity. Overall the cruise was great... most importantly my family loved it and are looking forward to their next cruise. I believe they are addicted now. I noticed the cutbacks everyone has been talking about and boy are they noticeable. Miss the reggae bands up on deck, I don't like the DJ things, the drawing you got of the ship on the last night of the sailing in the MDR, and the food quality and service has deteriorated. I have repeatedly said to many the Carnival does deliver what they advertise and for the prices they have you get just that. However, the fact that on my last Carnival Cruise I walked away very happy and without any hesitation of sailing Carnival again, this time... the tone has changed. I won't say never, but... I will put it in some serious consideration if a Carnival Cruise pops up in my radar in the future, regards if I'm paying... or my company picks up the tab once again. Read Less

I have traved with Carnival cruise before and was excited for this trip, there were six of us on this curise, we had two Cabins u201 and u205 the one cabin was good there were only two in that room (our elderly mothers) we were told that there were two twin beds one pull down bed and a couch, which would have been fine however when we got there, there were only two twin beds and two beds that pulled down on top of the other and seeing as how this was a trip for the six of us to spend time together, we called down stairs and they did nothing, if they would have told us ahead of time we would have NEVER booked this room (seeing as how were were from 3 different states) we wanted it to be relaxing, however we could not sit and visit when the beds were down we sat hunched over could not visit, when telling this to customer service (yes I called and talked to a Lisa) felt like it went in one ear and out the other, she said that we could have asked the sterwart to put the beds (because you need a key) up till time for bed, but seeing as how when we asked for ice it took forever, we were booked in the dinning room clear at the other end of the ship when there was one right above our floor, when asked if we could be moved to that one (our mother was with us and she is 77 years old) we were told we had to go and ask the maiterde ourselfs, our room service trays sat on the floor outside our room for hours, and our room railey got cleaned, I am so emaressed I told three of the guest in our party when they cruise with carnival they will never again travel any other way, in my past travels they bent over backwards to accomendate you here they just did not care... we were also told that we were only allowed two wash clothes and there were four in our room, I was planing a cruise with my family next year I might have to rethink this...even when my family went on a curise in 1999 with Carnival and we were not able to spend the time told to us on the island they gave us a vouchour for a return curise this time they did not even offer us a free drink.. Which by they way you can purchase a coke card but if you do not drink coke and you want bottled water you have to pay for EVERY bottle you want you cannot purchase a card for this.. I am so unhappy with the Senstation, I am not saying I will never travel Carnival but I know I WILL NEVER go on the Senstation, and we were not the only ones un happy there were other guest unhappy as well. so now I called down stairs to customer ship imeditily called customer service when I got home and now I am writing, hopefully I will get an apology or something :( Read Less

Pre-Cruise hotel: Arrived two nights prior to embarkation and stayed at the Wyndham, Westport. We booked through Priceline and won a $45 bid. The hotel was convenient, good quality, and had an attentive staff. I had reserved the Embassy Suites at $93 for Sat and $103 for Sun and found that to be the average in Westport. The Wyndham was more than adequate and nicer than expected for the price. Unfortunately they discontinued the M&M's at the desk. I asked about it and the manager told me it cost on average $5,000 per month to keep M&M's on the front desk. They still have bags, all you have to do is ask. Recommend against the "Stay and Sail" package. The transportation folks will pick-up and drop off at the airport and the cruise port without the package. Save your money. The drivers don't see any of the $ from the package deal anyway, so our party of 6 tipped $30 each way and they were very appreciative. Embarkation: Standard porter haze, they won't let you check your own bag, so porter/tips are part of the deal. I guess $2 isn't too much to ask, I just don't like not having the option. Most of us did the "roll on" option and it was painless. The "Platinum Class" process looked very quick and efficient. The regular folks (us) were in line about 45 minutes. We've have definitely seen less efficient and comfortable operations. The Cruise itself: Ship- adequate, but lacking in many of the modern facilities of the newer ships. The ship only had a small pool and two hot tubs, no "jumbotron" for MNF or movies for the kids and an older somewhat inefficient design for traffic flow. Overall the ship was in decent shape but showed a very hurried dry dock where many of the finishing/cosmetics were rushed or incomplete. The carpet for example was not trimmed properly in areas or was left uneven. This is not a big deal but something that even a casual observer would notice. Our daughter was in the 9-11 year old kids program and quickly bored with the program. They do more babysitting than actual programs. Not terrible though, but anticlimactic after our last cruise on Disney. Food: Hit or miss. The dining room fare vacillated between above average to totally uninspired. The Lobster, prime rib, and chocolate melting cake were all good. The rest was mass produced and lacked inspiration and freshness. The Eggs Benedict had a hard crust every morning on the hollandaise sauce from sitting under the heat lamp. The service was polite but often deplorable. I use the empty water as a metric of service and we had to ask for more water every single meal. The servers are spread very thin and appear harried and undermanned. The days of personal service and building a report with your service staff are apparently over on the big box lines. JMO We never did room service, our daughter enjoyed the pizza and it looked fresh and good. The buffet on the Lido was often overrun with guests loading up on platefuls of medium quality fare. Entertainment: The comedians were fine, not to my taste but my wife laughed at Valerie Storm's show. The Variety show was actually well done. Not to Disney standards but well above the amateurish NCL star crew we saw last year on the Star. Ports: Grand Caymen- Walk outside the fence and book your own excursion, you end up at the same place and in our case the very same boat, at half price or less. Cozumel- We took a taxi to Palancar, I dove a single tank (Columbia, and Palancar gardens) and my wife and daughter snorkled. It wasn't cheap but very relaxed and low key. The dive was first rate ($60) and the snorkel equipment for the girls was $10 each. Mario the beach server was a genuinely nice man that doted over our daughter. Summary: Have fun but manage expectations before time so there are no major disappointments. Carnival is better than we remember but it's still very entry level. The rooms at 185 square feet are better than most and our steward Gabby was first rate. he definitely deserved the extra gratuity. The only negative comment I have about the stateroom was the dirty exterior of the window. Enjoy your vacation! Read Less

I have to start off by saying Bassic said it best in their review of this ship. It wasn't terrible . . . . it just wasn't what I was hoping for and I believe my expectations were pretty low considering I had chosen Carnival for my cruise. The ship is really a beautiful vessel. It's really got fun, personality and beauty all wrapped up into one. When we pulled into a port we were definitely the big fish in town. That was pretty impressive. I totally agree that the layout takes some getting used to. I think it took most of the trip before we actually got the exact layout down. It's very big and the elevators and stairs do not always get you where you want to go. The rooms were bigger than I had anticipated which was nice. My room had two twins, sofa, long vanity and TWO BATHROOMS !!!!! I loved having TWO!!! The staff on the ship was VERY hot and cold as far as attitudes. My room guys were above and beyond EXCELLENT. I could not of asked for a better group of people taking care of my room. The manager in the casino was SUPER EXCELLENT !! I know he's in the business to bring more money to the casino but he was sensational. He always addressed the guests by name, was quick to ask if he could bring you anything or do anything for you, he took the time to just visit with the guests . . . . very professional and all around great guy. I did speak with Guest Services on a couple of occasions and they were hot and cold. I agree that the complaints were probably overflowing but some of the staff was very helpful but others would respond with a very snippy response. This is something I didn't appreciate because I was merely asking questions and not complaining. 80/ The girls at the desk in the spa were not not my fave. Again, very short and snippy. But my massage lady for me and my daughter were very very nice. I do not feel I got my moneys worth though. I paid $170 for a 50 min stone massage and the poor girl kept dropping the rocks and eventually dropped the lid to the heater that they're kept warm in. I bet she spent atleast 30 - 40% of her time arranging things and picking stuff up that she had dropped. But she was nice. 80) As far as meals, the sit down meals were pretty good. The main dish was usually very good but I didn't have very good luck with the sides that would come with it. The appetizers and desserts were usually very good as well. As far as everything else, it was very average as I would think would be expected. The service in the dining rooms was very slow for us and we were in early seating. There was a couple of nights that it took over an hour to get our meals. The staff was cordial but not happy to be there . . . . we felt like they were strictly there to do their job and go home. We were there the night of the fight. Very entertaining but a little taken aback by it all. We had signed up for an excursion in Cozumel which had a time change on it. The cruise said they gave us a notice of it but we didn't get it. Therefore we were left behind and weren't able to go. Unfortunately they said they left the notice on our door but we also had kids on our floor that were stealing the mail. 80( The money was refunded but it took ALOT of talking to get that done. The change in port was upsetting only because they knew the problem existed with the ship WAY before they picked us up and they could have offered other solutions which they didn't. Progreso was a TERRIBLE port . . . to the point some of the guests were slipped drugs in their drinks and they had to be carried back to the ship and then wheeled back to their rooms in wheelchairs. That's not the fault of Carnival but Carnival could have picked a better place to dock especially since they knew from the Transatlantic sailing that there were problems. They had plenty of time to work out a better location. Carnival led the guests to believe that the issue happened just as they were pulling into Galveston and they had to make other arrangements with little time. Very untrue and disappointing. Many of the guests were unhappy. I was disappointed. With some tweeks this will be a very very good cruise. It does have alot of potential. Its unfortunate the ship had problems because it changed the attitude and schedule of alot of things. Read Less

My husband and I have went on 5 cruises, 4 of them on Carnival Cruise lines. This was the first time out of Tampa and I have to say the fastest when it came to boarding a ship. We arrived the day before and stayed at the Rocky Point Inn which was not too bad to stay at. They are in the middle of a remodel so the wallpaper was torn down in the hallway and sheet rock showing in places yet our room was clean. Not a bad hotel for the price. They do a cruise special were they will pick you up from the airport, take you to your hotel and shuttle you to the port. There is a wonderful restaurant within walking distance called Bahama Breeze. The worst complaint we had about the Legend was the entertainment. It was the same "dance" shows almost every night. There was very little variety. There was one night when there was a juggler/comedian that was good but the rest of the nights it was the same. We ended up going to the comedian shows. It definitely needs improvement. Wonderful Cruise Director!!! We heard from several sources that the Legend will be remodeled soon and that will be a good thing. The layout on the ship was a bit to get us to. Seemed to have a choppy design. Would like to see it once it was remodeled. Read Less

We have just come back from a back to back Carnival cruise and had a wonderful time. I wont go over what everyone else has already written, but apart from the air con being too cool inside the ship , the second weeks entertainment the same as the first weeks, and the same menu in the dining room, everything the cruise had to offer was wonderful. Our carnival trips ashore were informative and exactly what we expected and wanted. We did book through Bernard's tours in St Marten and would recommend this thoroughly. Slim our guide was wonderful, fun and helpful in every way. Our Belize trip down the river Wallace, the mayan ruins, and the trip into the jungle was so exciting. Where else would you get Manatees, dolphins, monkeys, crocs, iguanas, in the wild, all in the one place. Definitely worth the trip. Our stateroom was lovely, clean, airy and roomy and we would recommend the cove balcony which is nearest the sea to see the flying fish and the dolphins! Unfortunately our balcony had to be closed for a couple of nights because of a storm, but were soon opened again when it was safe. The meals in the Scarlet dining room were lovely and our waiters Florenza and Keelan....probably spelled wrong......were the best. Nothing was too much trouble for them . The same goes for Leonardo our steward. Nice man, very quick and efficient. Loved the serenity deck, free of children.....a lovely place to relax between trips. The American people as a whole were extremely friendly to us Brits and always willing to have a chat, nice people and very helpful in lots of ways. In the two weeks my husband and I are proud to announce that we win the trivia quiz THREE times. !!! Despite the fact that some teams had five in them to our two....... Three golden ships on a stick were our precious prizes, and they are on prominent display in our house!!! Lovely staff, lovely meals, lovely trips, lovely weather (except for a couple of days )lovely clean ship, and decent entertainment, what more could you want on holiday ! We had it all ! Thank you Dream..... Read Less

My husband gave me a wonderful birthday gift last yr aboard the Carnival Dream. This was our 8th cruise with Carnival, 10th over all. Carnival out did themselves with the Dream. The ship was amazing, lots of fun, the staff was fabulous and the rooms were fabulous. I loved the new figuration of the bathrooms.. No longer do they feel like a closet. There we a few cons... My hubby and I love a cool room and we had a hard time getting our room to cool down the whole week we were on board. Also we feel that Carnival has lowered it standard for food quality. It just seems that Carnival has had to cut corners which I understand and they cut those corners in the food quality department. Now I do love that on the Lido deck along with the buffet there is several different types of food choices including a burrito bar with homemade tortillas.. Pasta bar which is FABULOUS! Just about every type of food you would want.. At breakfast time on the Lido deck you can get omelets made to order or eggs how ever you want them.. BUT you are going to wait in a very long line! Yes we had a rocking ship at times BUT we had some very bad storms that we went thru and was very happy with how the staff handled everyone doing those storms... The entertainment staff was wonderful we had a great time.. My Son and Daughter-in-law had cake and champagne sent to our table for my birthday.. The staff was AMAZING and had such a wonderful time.. Over all we had a wonderful time and I would DIFINTELY recommend the Carnival DREAM too everyone that will listen.. Thank you forgiving this chance to express my opinion! Read Less

This was our 2nd cruise aboard the Carnival Dream. We boarded her out of Port Canaveral which is very convenient for us living here in Central Florida. Our first cruise was December, 2009, when Carnival had a one-time 9-day itinerary and this cruise was a 7-day with a few of the ports. The only complaint back in 2009 and in September, 2011, is that the ship's food court on the Lido Deck is not large enough to accommodate a ship with so many passengers. The staff can't (or don't) get the tables cleared fast enough to eliminate the confusion of passengers standing around waiting for tables. We are Milestone Rewards Carnival cruises so we get VIP service. This was the first time we tried the "Your Time Dining" and it was wonderful. Our first night we gave the dining room hostess our stateroom number, requesting a 2T (table for two) and we were taken to a lovely little alcove where there were four tables for two - it overlooked the first floor of the formal dining room. Our servers were excellent. The food? Well, we have trouble ordering food we can't pronounce but we did find the 'comfort' food selection was very good for the nights we didn't want to order from the menu of the night. We did not make it to Nassau as the hurricane was too close so the captain took us further south toward Cuba and we went on to St. Thomas. In 2009 we stayed in a suite which was nice. This time we booked a regular balcony which was more than adequate. My husband is a smoker and never smokes in the stateroom so the balcony is perfect for him. Most all the cruiselines are prohibiting smoking in staterooms without the passengers having to pay upwards of $250 cleaning fee. The cleaning fee in most cases would be cheaper than upgrading to a balcony but we do prefer the luxury of sitting outside as we cruise - particularly at night. We would recommend this ship to families and it would be great for reunions, as well. I don't know that we will board her again any time soon even though the port is so convenient and, we have been on so many cruises, east/west doesn't matter...we are beginning to take longer cruises to far away places. We'll see how that pans out. Read Less

I live thirty minutes from Galveston so it was a simple matter to drive over on the morning of the 3rd. I was traveling with three friends and we arrived around 11AM. We always park at the EZ Cruise parking. By making reservations on-line you can park for $35 for a five day cruise. The people at the parking lot are very helpful and we were taken without delay to the port. After checking our bags at the curb I was expecting to have a long wait in line to go through the security area and board the ship. On the two previous Ecstasy cruises embarkation was a long and tiring experience. It seems that the Port of Galveston must be listening to the complaints from cruise critic members because this time embarkation was handled very efficiently and in less than thirty minutes we were boarding the ship. CABIN: Our cabins were not ready so we went to the Lido deck for lunch. We were met with another pleasant surprise, the Mongolian Buffet. I have always thought that the Ecstasy had the best hamburgers but with the Mongolian Buffet they are now second place. Within an hour the cabins were ready and we went below to stow our baggage. The cabins haven't really changed and are still at best utilitarian. There is not really any place to comfortably sit except on the bed. The cabins are small but do have adequate closet and drawer space. The cabin attendant was very good and kept the ice bucket filled, plenty of clean towels, and the room in neat order at all times. DINING: I was in need of gaining a few pounds and found doing so to be very easy. The food in the buffet was edible but nothing spectacular. The main dining room was a very pleasant experience. The waiter was very good despite having a lot of tables. Each night the menu had entrees that were tasty and nicely presented. Two of our table mates ordered a complete Indian Dinner and were kind enough to share it. It was very good and I was impressed that Carnival was willing to prepare this as an off-menu item. Since I wasn't overly impressed with the buffet the grill on the Lido deck became my venue of choice for lunch. The Ecstasy still has the best hamburgers of any of the ships I sailed. They cook them on the grill as you wait and serve them hot. All in all I think the Ecstasy holds its own with other ships when it comes to food. OTHER: One of the nicest things that have been added to the Ecstasy in its last retrofit was the Serenity Deck. It isn't in the most convenient place but worth the effort to reach. The young lady who was the attendant was extremely nice and did an excellent job of enforcing the adults only rule. There were nice lounge chairs, two hot tubs, and an area that was shaded. The serenity deck became my favorite place to relax, read, and nap. Being just below the pizza preparation area, the nice aroma drifting down around noon always let you know it was getting close to noon. I also enjoyed the 3PM Tea Time on sea days, the pastries were delicious and the waiters were very attentive. ENTERTAINMENT: The shows in the main show room were nothing special. It may be because I had seen them before but after several years I did think that some changes would have been made. The show band was good but most of the singers and dancers were what one would expect at a high school musical production. DEBARKATION: Another pleasant surprise. In the past self-assist was a nightmare with a mad dash being made by passengers creating long waits. Carnival seems to have gotten a handle on this situation because this time when your deck was called the process was efficient and you got off the ship in a short time. Also clearing customs has also been made much more efficient. In less than thirty minutes from the time our deck was called we were at the curb and on our way to the parking lot. I hope this was not a one time event and that in the future embarkation and debarkation continues to be handled efficiently. CONCLUSION: Carnival is still the "party" group but for a quick get-away the four and five day cruises out of Galveston are a bargain as long as you don't drink too much. I took my first cruise on the Ecstasy some years ago and will always remember just how great I thought she was. In truth, the Ecstasy isn't nor never will be a ship with a lot of "wow" but she offers her travelers a cruise that is worth the money. Read Less

I always read reviews and have to remember everyone is different so you pretty much have to take them with a grain of salt. My first cruise was on a Carnival and my second on Celebrity. It was obvious that Carnival is your more affordable line. That being said - I was way more impressed with this cruise than I had anticipated being. Embarkation out of Tampa was relatively painless but slow. The first group went about 11:00 and seemed to get through pretty quick. We went about 11:45 and waited in line about an hour. The third group went about 1:45 and walked right in pretty much. Rooms weren't ready so we joined the huge crowds on the pool/Lido deck for buffet lunch. While we were loading they handed out a piece of paper documenting a change in our ports on certain days. I called back to my mom still at the hotel loading up and she was able to quickly get out an email to the tours we booked to let them know. However I'm sure the tour companies are used to cruise lines doing this and there was no problem when we got there. FOODS We ate dinner in the main dining room for early dining every night as a group and they were able to put all 9 of us at one table. I had expected mediocre food based on the reviews that came out on Legend. I have enjoyed and can appreciate the finest of dining in many places of the world but still feel comfortable in ma and pa's diner. I was REALLY impressed with 90% of the meals I had for dinner. Everything was great from temperature, taste, and presentation. We were traveling with our 6 year old and the first two nights he ate off the children's menu with your basic pizza, burgers and chicken. Then after that he started ordering things off the adult menu - steak, pasta and even grilled salmon and loved it. Also made him feel big ordering like the rest of us. Most of the time we were off on an island for lunch but did eat the Lido buffet for at sea days. Here's where we weren't impressed. Food was okay for lunch but the crowds were irritating. Waiting in line to get everything then it was cold by the time you sat down. I thought the 24 hour pizza was terrible and feel it's hard to mess up pizza. I only got it once so maybe I just got a bad kind. The kids of course loved the 24 hour ice cream. Breakfast in the main dining room was great - but limited. Same menu every day but enjoyable to not fight crowds. We did eat breakfast buffet several times due to the early nature of the excursions. Same experience as lunch. I didn't see much on the reviews with kids so didn't know what to expect. We had also an 11 and 17 year old nephews. they had a mini golf course, ping pongs (which were always busy) and basket ball court. They also had a water slide but it was at the opposite end of where the pools were so didn't really go to it much. There is an adult only pool at the back of the ship and two main pools mid ship. They were full of kids. We checked out Camp Carnival and there were a ton of activities and you could check in the little ones and let them play. My 6 year old only went one night for a movie. But it looked like a great program and would give adults a bit of time to themselves. Mine never seemed to be bored and managed to find things to do all over the ship. There was a lot of smoking in the casino - it's a casino - go anywhere into one and you'll find this. But as much as i despise smoke, it did not bother me. It did bother me more on the back pool area where there are table to also eat. Seemed to be more smokers out there - that must be the smoking deck. No where else on board did I find it. Casino took all of our money of course but it was fun. We only went to a few shows, the comedy shows were only about 25 minutes long. The song and dance - although a bit cheesey - were entertaining. Because of the kids we didn't stay out too late and each port was early. Day one, I signed up for the mixologist contest. It happened on day two and you had to create a drink and got judged by a panel. I got to drink the drink I made and got a great drink recipe book and a coupon for a drink (up to $5.95) so it was an easy way to get two drinks for free. :) They do hit you up for a lot of stuff extra between the constant waiters for drinks, photographers, art, water bottles on days of excursions, bingo, and the shops. I expected that so it didn't bother me. we brought liquor on board so we actually tabbed out at the end of the cruise with only our required tips on there. Service was excellent in both the dining room and the cabin steward. the kids couldn't wait to see the animals made for them each night. Ice was provided in our cabin every afternoon and the beach towels replaced. Had NO issues with the service at all. I'll post the reviews on the ports - I could do without Belize however. The embarkation for those that tendered were long and irritating. We booked only one tour through carnival and it was in Belize. We sat in the Folley area (their room for shows) for about 45 minutes waiting for our number to be called. Seemed like it could be better thought out. Getting off the boat was painless but long. We left our cabin about 8:30 and didn't get off until almost 10:30. They really turn that boat around fast getting it cleaned up and ready for the next group getting on at 11:30! Over all - I was extremely pleased with the trip and loved every minute of it. I see that it says I had an obstructed view on my balcony. Didn't even know that. It was perfect! Read Less
