For a family of 7 it was the right price. Boarding was easy and quick. We were able to grab a seat by the pool, take a dip in the pool and made our way to the wonderful buffet. The kids (4 of them) favorite part was of course the ice cream. My mom and sister's favorite part was getting coffee delivered to the rooms. The only downside was the kids zone for ages 13-14 was always closed. the other two age groups would be open. Both of our shore trips were great. We took the glass boat tour in Catalina and the Gold Coast Tour in Ensenada. We came along the devils home right outside of La Fonda where we stopped to take a stroll on the beach, get a free drink and eat some great chips and salsa. My mom is a huge Steven King fan so she enjoyed getting a closer look at the creepy home. Our tour guide was great. Our dinner staff was great and the entertainment was great. Wish they would extend the time for family kaorake and comedy shows. they were kind of short. It was kind of hard to enjoy the over 21 hot tubs when the 13-14 year club was closed so we had to be surrounded by the teenagers who invaded the hot tubs on the Lido deck vice enjoying their club that was open..... The food was awesome. everyone tried something new..... From alligator fritters, braised rabbit and frog legs. Plus the endless seafood on the menu. The only true bad thing about the cruise the pricing of the pictures. it was insane how expensive they were. Other cruises offer a great bulk pricing but Carnival doesn't. Spent over 150 for 10 pictures and left a lot of great pictures on the wall. But overall it was a awesome cruise. Thank you for a great time. Read Less

I went on this ship as it was the only thing available at the last minute when trying to find a cruise to take my 30y.o. sister on who has never cruised before. I had done this itinerary twice before (Ensenada twice and Catalina Island once) and I had done this ship before in 2015 being in a wedding as my friend was married on it. The ship looks old, worn, and dirty. We saw crew members dusting the walls in the morning but important things like cleaning our oceanview window so we could have a clear view outside and pickup up trash in the public bathrooms were missed. The handwashing machine near Blue Iguana didn't work properly most of the time, just flashing a red light and and hand sanitizer near there was never filled. The bathroom nearest the buffet on port side, the air dreyer never worked and there were no paper towels available. Within 20min of boarding the ship we sat down in the buffet to eat lunch and the wooden bench part of the seat in one of the booths completely fell off the bench making my sister almost fall. Two crewmembers walked by, saw it was broken, and did nothing. Certain coffee makers and other drink dispensers didn't work the entire cruise. Our sheets had holes and there was only one outlet in the whole room. The food in the dining room was more miss than hit and no one encouraged hand washing like they do on NCL. I rarely touched the ladles and spoons to serve myself, using a blue cloth napkin instead, yet I'm still sick the day after the cruise. The casino house edge on roulette is insane with Carnival adding a B (bonus) green space to the the standard 0/00. The lady running the trivia was unfamiliar with the subject matter of some of the trivia games and while generally having people from all over the world work on the ship is an amazing display of diversity, in this case it made trivias less fun when you can't understand the host. Not only when running the Harry Potter trivia was she unaware of simple things like Ron's last name being pronounced Weasley and not Wesley but the second question asked was WRONG! "Of the three main characters, who is the oldest?" The correct answer is Hermione, yet on her sheet (and clearly because she's not versed on the subject matter to know otherwise) the answer says Ron, which is incorrect and leaves a damper on the experience itself when those running a trivia don't know the correct answers. German C, the DJ on board always looked like he hated being there. Nightclub hits was supposed to start at 11:30 in the dance club but normally he didn't stop playing oldschool or 90's hits until 12:15am or later making the fun of dancing to current music only last about 45min or so. Also, our server on the third night in Mardi Gras was not very kind nor patient. And the person staffing the pizza area in the back of the buffet always had an attitude as if you were bothering him. The Cruise Director Ryan Rose was great and so was his right hand man 'Fernando(?)'. They were the positives of the cruise. The two shows in the theaters while short and had basic choreography and wasn't anything new or exciting, was still entertaining and the male lead singer/dancer was very good. My sister enjoyed the nightclub but wished they played current hits starting earlier in the night since it ended early. Too many times she tried to eat a caesar salad but it either had too much or too little dressing no matter how she specified it. Overall she enjoyed herself so in my opinion if you haven't been on many cruises, or haven't been on new and large ships or haven't stayed in a balcony cabin before and don't have much to compare it too you may enjoy this cruise for a quick getaway if you are local to the area. We were looking for a family friendly 4 day cruise and we found it! First time on Carnival Crew was very very nice My cabin was clean all the time Orlando our cruise director was a delite! Loved the dining was pretty good always a vegetarian selection Our kids enjoyed the kid activities such town animals, arcade, kids club - (although this was disorganized and s small fight broke out with several 10 years old in the kids club) yikes! Guys burger bar and taco bar by the pool was great! The winner for us was Alchemy Bar which mixed delicious martinis! Don’t miss this bar! Photo ops were everywhere so that was also a plus! Perfect amount of time on the cruise- Tiny bit sea sick due to boat going so slow- The Stufio VIP show on the last night was hysterical! Go to the comedy shows too If you a party this is your cruise! We appreciate Carnival Inspiration Crew for making our first family cruise a wonderful and memorable experience. Our steward Bernard was friendly and we appreciate his hardwork. We dined every night and it was a great experience for my two boys (8 years and 6 years-old) to try and enjoy a variety of foods. We thank the people who served us and we appreciate their hard work. We also enjoyed the dining entertainment- your crew can definitely dance! My boys also enjoyed the breakfast with Dr. Seuss and the family comedy shows. We will for sure cruise with Carnival again. Our excursion in Ensenada- La Bufadora was really great. Belen was our tour guide and was very knowledgeable and welcoming. I am glad that I booked our excursion through Carnival. Our day at Catalina Island was also fantastic. We enjoyed riding around with the golf cart. We appreciate that your price is fair and deliver and provide us a priceless experience!!! Since I live near the Port of Long Beach, the terminal is only about a 15-20 minute drive. Plus, the price was right for a four night cruise. I had never cruised with Carnival before and wanted to give it a shot. Having cruised with Disney, I didn't come in with the highest of expectations. The ship is older (one of the oldest in Carnival's fleet) and it shows. The main entertainment venue is a lounge--style theater instead of the more-modern broadway style. There are no speciality restaurants (this is made up for with upcharge options at dinner and chef's table). The ship is showing its age, but Carnival has appeared to have kept it in ship shape during dry docks. Hopefully the next one will bring some new life. I was in an upper/lower birth cabin. Having this does give you a little more room, since the bunk leaves more space. However, I'd have preferred this configuration with a balcony or even an ocean view. Unfortunately, Inspiration's balonies are only in suites. That said, no complaint on the room. It served its purpose well and was clean. Dining on the ship was amazing. We had anytime dining. Had the same server team 3 of 4 nights. The food was amazing. The "rare finds" are worth a shot each night. There is a nice mix of poultry, pork, beef, fish, and vegeterian/vegan items. On Sea Day, I did the brunch and the filet mignon melted in my mouth. The flat iron steak from dinner came very close to melt in mouth, but was tender and well flavored. The chefs know how to cook. I also loved the desserts, especially the banana cream pie. The Lido Buffet does a new theme each day, which is nice. Plus, you can't beat a Guy Fieri burger. Main show entertainment was pretty good, but given the loung style seating, I tended to just watch from the back on deck 9. I preffered the comedy acts the most in the Punchliner. BT was a riot and I went to two of his shows. Service was amazing. Carnival has hired a great diverse crew for this ship, from crew to staff to officers and everything in between. If you want great service, I have found cruises do it best. I'd most certainly recommend this cruise and I'm eager to eventually cruise with Carnival again. They are truly the Fun Ships. Warning to those who want the upscale experience, Carnival is not for you. If you like a relaxed, casual, fun atmosphere, this is the cruise for you. Read Less

So I would like to start with a positive. The embarkation process was super easy and organized this was better than on Celebrity, Royal , or Norwegian. We knew that this was an older ship and we really only booked this as a quick getaway from LA to a few places we’d never been to before. Upon arrival to our stateroom , the attendant (who was lovely) informed us that there was no hand soap. They were waiting for it to get on the ship but there wasn’t any yet. I immediately began to panic - if all 2,000 guests are using the bathroom and then not using hand soap , that’s a health issue. So I called guest services to inquire - she told me to use shower gel for now but that I most likely misunderstood the stateroom attendant bc he just didn’t have any on “his” cart. We were then given a bar for each of our staterooms. Day one - 15 minutes on the ship my son uses the bathroom and it begins to back up. We flushed again and it all went down - I blamed my son for maybe using too much paper but he swears he didn’t . Later on after dinner I come back to the room and use the bathroom and it flushed but then would t fill entirely up with water again. Well, I woke up at 4 am to the toilet backed up and a wet floor - I was nauseous thinking about this - called maintenance right away , they came and fixed it and then never cleaned it until our regularly scheduled housekeeping! This was now grossing me out. As we are disembarking in Catalina we had to wait for the tenders down this long corridor and the stench of sewage or garbage began to resonate , luckily before I hurled I remembered that we had laid “faster to the fun” pricing and asked if that meant we could board the tenders first - Thank God! The smell in that hallway where they had people waiting like cattle to board the tenders was unbearable. The smell of garbage lingered and got worse as we got closer to the end of the cruise. Other People on board noticed it too and a few who had been on this ship before thought it was normal. I have never been on a ship where the smell of raw sewage and garbage was ever prominent on guest decks. Bizzaro - Anywho the food was fantastic! The cantina was our favorite and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Orlando , the cruise director , must be the hardest working cruise director in crushing history. He was EVERYWHERE. He’s a sweet man and made everything fun. The shows for the little ones were great - the kids club watched movies and drew which my kids found boring , the casino was fantastic - Maggie was an amazing dealer who was friendly and personable. The Bingo situation seemed rigged to me - they had two bingos and the prize was supposed to be $5,000 - then each winner only won $250 - my kids were even like - wow what a letdown. Binging bradley went a little too fast on the end and never gave anyone a moment to “catch up” the numbers weren’t on the board while he was verifying - you kind of got the vibe that they didn’t want you to win lol. Which I guess they don’t . Anywho - this was my 2nd Carnival cruise and I loved the staff, the food , and the entertainment- but what are they doing about the most important aspect - hygiene?? Not the place you want to cut corners. We managed to enjoy our time - but I was severely disturbed by how dirty everything seemed . We sat by a window for dinner and you could not see at all out the window - it seemed to have Layers of grime on them. Sorrry if I’m being too harsh on this older ship - but you’ve got to make some changes. If this were my first cruise experience I would have to say - never again! Read Less

We are not new to cruising we have been on over 50 cruises. Cruising on the Inspiration 3 times. It had been over 5 years since we sailed on this ship. We drove to the port in LA to embark on a relatives 70th birthday party. We live about 90 miles from the port so it was a easy drive. We arrived at the port around 10AM. We were able to check in at the Platinum line. You are able to sit in the lounge and then be the first group escorted on the boat we boarded by 1:15 am. Ship: The ship is old but it's a 4 day party cruise and served its purpose. After going on the RCL Allure of the Seas and the NCL Bliss it looks really outdated. Dining: We had always loved the food on Carnival however, the quality was just not there as in years past. Especially in the dining room. No tablecloths, it looked more like the local coffee shop. They did bring out the tablecloths on the dress up night. We had fixed dining and our waiters were fantastic. They went above and beyond. Service: Was great no problems. We made our own excursions and disembarkation was quick and easy. We walked off the ship. Read Less

A 40th Birthday Celebration with nearly 20 friends was fun, but could've been a better experience. To be fair, this was my very first cruise, so I have no other cruise ships to compare it to, but I do have a lot of experience traveling as I work in the travel industry. Also, I set my expectation fairly low, and it was about accurate. The level that our cabin was located on, Floor 6, Upper Deck, smelled like raw sewage for the last 2 full days and had industrial equipment in the hallways, so I was not sure if something happened or if it is just a regular issue with that ship. FOOD The majority of the hot food was barely served warm, and the broccoli on my main entree plate in the fine dining room was still frozen. There was no sauce on my plate, so I just asked for a side of ranch dressing to add flavor. The baked potato was also cold in the middle. DRINKS The beer selection was fairly varied, in that they had a lager, an IPA, and even a gluten free beer, however, not a lot of craft beer options and the only draft beer I saw was the self serve Miller Lite in the buffet area. The higher end selection of liquor that was included in the adult drink package was great, but when I tried to order an Aperol Spritz, I had an issue with several bartenders, who gave me attitude because they were not allowed to mix a champagne cocktail, so one refused to even make the drink, and another would only give me a glass of champagne first, then wait 5 minutes to charge my drink card for a shot of Aperol on the side and a glass of ice, (there is a waiting period between the number of drinks a guest is allowed to consume in a certain time period). So, I then got charged for 2 drinks, and had to make the drink myself which was ridiculous! Also, it should be noted that this was my first drink of the day, so I was completely sober. ENTERTAINMENT The comedian was hilarious!! The dancers were great! I wish they had a movie theatre or better wifi. I bought the wifi package before I embarked but it was not working so well, so I cancelled it and just used the Carnival App to connect with friends. I made the mistake of staying on the ship when we arrived in Mexico, and there were very limited options of things to do for the day on the ship. The weather was super cold (50's) and really windy, so laying by the pool or going down the water slides was not really an option. The casino was closed, as were the shops and theatre's and even the majority of bars & restaurants were closed until the late afternoon. SAFETY The safety demo that was required, was completely pointless. They made us wait a really long time to even enter the theatre and then all they showed us was how to put on a life vest and kept us in there for far too long to be shown even that. Overall, I think I would go on another cruise line to be able to compare it, but I would never go on another Carnival Cruise again. Not my cup of tea. If you value food, aesthetics, and a higher caliber of service, pay a few dollars more and choose another cruise line. Read Less

Let me start off by saying this is well worth $350 per person. I have been on this cruise a few times and I was able to see the improvements Carnival has made to this ship. In fact, I have been on brand new ships like the Breeze that were not as clean as this ship. Ancient? YES! Dirty? No. We arrived at 10:30am and we were on the boat by 11:10am (we are Platinum guests). Our room was ready right at 1:30pm and our bags were in our room by 4:00. VERY ORGANIZED embarkation. I saw our room stewardess once in 4 days but he did a good job, just wasn’t warm and fuzzy which is fine with us. Now to the dining room. I would give it a “C-“ at best. Most of the food was bland, not very warm and took forever. Sorry but you get what you pay for. I knew it wasn’t going to be elaborate, fine dining so I wasn’t all that surprised. Our served was just ok but rarely checked in on us. On the other hand, we loved the room service option, pizza, Guys Burgers and Blue Iguanas. The boat stopped in Ensenada overnight because of the rough seas. We are gamblers so we were obviously sad to see the casino close but still had a blast. Both comedy shows were absolutely amazing, the Alchemy bar was some of the best drinks I’ve ever had and we enjoyed being losers at Bingo. I loved the dealers and bartenders at the casino. They were extremely friendly and almost all of the employees were talking about how much they loved this ship in particular because of the people. I highly recommend the drink package for a 3-4 day cruise. I would say I had 9-10 drinks a day on average (you can have 15) and that saved me soooo much money. If you are a beer drinker, it might not be the best package at $60 a day after tip. I also steer away from drink packages on 7 day cruises since you are off the boat for half of the trip. Overall, if you go into this trip knowing it is cheaper than a weekend in Vegas, you will be happy. Don’t listen to the complainers. Read Less

This was our first cruise and a great family vacation all in one. Total 8 adults in our group with 4 cabins. Embarkation was fast and easy, we opted for the faster to the fun upgrade. Once on board we were a little lost, not sure how to charge drinks and just trying to figure out what was Aft and what was forward! Great lunch on the lido deck and a few yummy cocktails made us feel right at home before we even got to our rooms. Our rooms were small, but that was expected, the window size was a nice surprise to me..it was bigger than I had expected! Lots of storage space and a nice desk/vanity area. Only complaint on the room was the amount of electrical outlets, only one in the guest room area and one in the bathroom. Jovana was our steward and she was awesome! So friendly, room cleaned right on time everyday, always a smile on her face and how do they remember everyone's name!! Michelle at the Alchemy Bar kept us happy with tasty drinks every night prior to dinner, it quickly became one of our fav. spots, meeting there with family each night. Our dinner time was 6pm, dinners were always fantastic, almost always in part to our server Sharon! She was the happiest person everyday, truly enjoying her job. She knew us all by name, what our favorite drinks was and for a few of us she even knew what we would order! She helped us to celebrate not only Christmas, but a birthday and an anniversay! She sang and danced along with us making each night a night to remember. I had steak every night and found out the the demi chef Michael cooking my steaks was Sharon's husband! I loved learning that and hearing how Carnival really works with married staff and keeps them together where ever their contracts may take them! Really tells you something about a company when they care about their staff that much. It was reasons like this that this cruise is def. above average! My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful couples massage while on board, I misplaced their names but it was one of the best massages's I have had! Great service, comfortable, and so passionate about what they do! Again kudos to Carnival for keeping employee's happy! We enjoyed the comedian one night, a song and dance review, and love love loved the piano bar, Jeff was amazing and fun! Loved the karaoke bar, they could really use a notebook with songs available, enjoyed all the food, great room service for breakfast. We did early disembarkation and took our own bags, got off really early but missed out on all the long lines! Only cons would be lack of power outlets, really slow internet (so not worth the $$), smoking in the casino, several public area toilets were out of service, and the pools including the adult pool seemed too dirty to use. Took my kid to the Holiday "carol" in the atrium and it was so loud she wanted to leave. There was a show on Tuesday that woke me up in the atrium FROM MY ROOM. (E55) Yikes! Get your sound checked. LOUDER IS NOT BETTER. With that said our room guy was awesome. I couldnt belive they stopped cleaning rooms twice a day I cant belive that Lobster on Fancy Night is gone Trashy people on board: I can NOT Blame Carnival for this. The price is amazing. I literally witnessed a woman try and get money out of the ATM machine....trasshhhyyyy *checked it though she didnt use it*. I loved everything else. But let me tell you, I had 4 shots of (supposedly, PATRON Tequila) and after the 4 shots, I didn't even have a tiny buzz. They were very easy to go down, but even Patron has a bit of a kick. It tasted like water with a bit of alcohol. I am normally a lightweight. One shot and I feel a lil buzz. But after 4 shots? No, something was just not right. And the last cruise I went on, all the food was included, but this time, Room Service was not included and at dinner, if you wanted anything like steak or lobster you had to pay an additional $20 each meal!! That was crazy!! Regarding beverages, it use to be all included except Alcohol, which is understandable. But now, you have to pay for sodas as well... Normally my husband and I prefer longer cruises, but this was the first time we'd taken our kids (ages 8 and 6), and we weren't sure how they would do. So we decided a 3-day was the way to go, just to find out how they liked it. The verdict is in -- they LOVED it and are begging to go back. Embarkation was ridiculously easy. Our time slot was at noon, and we'd left the Queen Mary hotel (next door) by 11, thinking we would need time dealing with parking in the garage. We were parked 2 minutes later. Because we had almost an hour left before our time slot, I suggested that we walk over to the water and take some photos. That killed another 10 minutes, so I decided to have us just go through the "early" line, hoping that the wait wouldn't be long. Ha! We literally walked right up. We were on the ship about 5 minutes later, and were relaxing with our lunches by the pool before our time slot even opened. The waterslide area never got crowded. Nor did the pool deck. Super easy to attend shows, too. Just walk right up and get a seat. If you wanted the front row right in the center, come like 5-10 minutes early. Both my daughter and I were contestants on the Hasbro the Game Show and we won consolation prizes. Son and husband got selected as characters in "Horton Hears a Who" reenactment for the Dr. Seuss storytime. Super fun! Daughter and I won the dance contest during the kids Halloween Party in the Rock n Roll Lounge (I was voted Best Mom Dancer and she was Best Girl Dancer). Food was AMAZING, especially the cold soups. That was my attempt at introducing my kids to fancy food. They had cold soups as an appetizer along with their chicken fingers or mac n cheese. Well, you can't win 'em all, right? Husband and I enjoyed the steak and seafood entrees every night. The surf was a bit choppy on our Sea Day, and our sea kayaking got cancelled during our port in Ensenada. No worries -- we'll just have to go again next year for Fall Break! I think we'll do the 4-day this time. Read Less

I had such a wonderful and amazing time sailing with Carnival this past weekend with my mom!! We left from the port of Long Beach and when we got there the atmosphere was already fun! Nono was an incredible cruise director. I don't know how she does it. She has to do so many shows and announcements but manages to do it with inspiration and enthusiasm. Those 70's and 80's sing-a-longs were AMAZING!!! The water slides were fun and so was the pool. I loved ordering a cocktail alongside the pool. I didn't know it was salt water but that made it all the more fun. As far as dining goes, we were at Carnavale and had the first seating. Both Alejandro and Rogelum were so accommodating and so sweet!!! It was first class service!! They even gave me free wine for my birthday and they sang very well. They were attentive and everyone really loved them!! Additionally, when we went to Ensenada La Bufadora tour. Abner was our excursion tour guide and boy was he amazing!! He was so knowledgeable and really brought out the best in Mexico. I learned so much from him. I couldn't believe he was there for only one year. He was such a professional! Also, the burgers were really, really good and so was the fried chicken. Everyone was so nice and I had SUCH a blast with the amazing entertainment. They were incredible!!! Love, Michelle Read Less

We took the 4 day cruise Carnival cruise to Catalina and Esenada from Long Beach. Wife and I did the 3 day cruise on Royal Carribean 10 yrs back, and so we did a lot of comparisons. This time we had our daughter with us cruising for the first time. Embarkation and disebarkation was a breeze at the port. We parked our car at the cruise terminal. Food was very average. Our last 2 cruises on RCL had awesome quality food compared to this carnival cruise. As vegetarians, the food choices were very limited on this cruise for us - both in dining and buffet. In general, the quality of food was medicore according to us. A few good highlights for food - Masala Dosa in dining room breakfast, carnival melting Chocolate cake, decent salad bar. The fries at Guys burger was good and the burrito at cantina by poolside was good as well. Loved the water slides!! The cabin was decently big and comfy, the shower was good as well - great water pressure!! We liked the dining room for dinner and Breakfast for 2 reasons - 1) that was the only place we could get Indian Vegetarian 2) We got out own table unlike RCL where we shared table with others. The indian dinner was average - except on the last night of the cruise the curries tasted good. Again, full credits and praises for the tasty masala dosa for breakfast!! That was truly yummy!! Overall it was a great time on the cruise. Would do it again!! Read Less

Needed a cruise that began and ended in the week of 7/16. This was the one available. When we take short cruises, we often like to go Carnival. they really do provide the most fun. Particularly as the end of the day.. This ship had 2 late night comics, that were hilarious. When I go on Princess and other lines, once the main show is over, there isn't much to do, unless you like gambling or dancing. Many people say that the food on Carnival isn't very good. That hasn't been our experience. While not the gourmet food one finds on some of the Luxury lines, it is more as good as most of the other ships we travel on. Our cabin service, as well as our food servers were outstanding. No issues with service. I've had much more difficulty with the service on Princess, which I usually take. Others providing excellent service include the pool bar staff, and the Customer Service desk. Read Less

I've always been interested in going on a cruise and had a chance to go on Carnival out of Long Beach to Catalina and Ensenada. Good parts -- The room steward was very friendly and helpful. He quickly learned our names and was readily available. Dinners were great -- all the food was excellent; great selection of sides, main dishes and desserts. Service was usually very good. Not so good -- Some of the public parts of the ship needed more frequent cleaning, including bathrooms. From the moment we boarded they were trying to sell us stuff -- ALL THE TIME. Bottled water was provided -- for more than $3 a bottle (big bottles). Most areas were crowded all the time. We were told rooms would be ready at 1:30. Ours was not and the cleaning staff didn't seem to care. They did, however, tell us it would be ready at 2:00 and it was. Debarkation information was not clear. Debarkation itself was fine. But we couldn't understand the description they had given us. Finally we just started making our way to the exit and got off without any delays. Read Less

I went on cruise for first time. I found this as an average experience. Ship is little old. Need some renovation. They also need to add more entertainment. Like movie theatre. Some games or more theatre activities. Food and staff were good. I would suggest if they can also give some souvainer for remembreace after cruise specially to small kids. Entertainment . It was boring after 2 days specially there are not much entertainment. I would suggest do not go with high hopes. If you are going only for food then you will not get disappointed. We buy Wi-Fi plan for our phone and it was hardly working very difficult to check social sites. Also there are some hidden cost involved like water and soda are not free. Overall it was fun for 3 days cruise. If you want to have more fun then go with family and friends to have more fun. Read Less

The staff gets rude even though the 5:30 is the time to be back. Food wasn't all that great. My girls call it fake bacon. Lol. Thank God for late night pizza. Dinner in the dining room was great. Room service could have a few more options and not charge for soda if they can see you have the bubble package. The night prior of entering the destination port, the ship goes a lot faster and you'll feel more movement. The same as coming back to main port. Have your Seabands ready. The cabin Stewart was great. He calls you by first name. How he remembers everyone's name is beyond me. The cruise director was amazing. Great personality and includes all in the dance party in the lobby. That was a lot of fun. If you like to people watch. Sit by the pool and enjoy a laugh. Read Less

A quick get-away for my son's 21st birthday. Embarkation was so quick and simple, we never stopped walking from the parking garage until we were in the atrium. The remodeled dome is beautiful and streamlined. The Inspiration is beautiful, even for it's age (just like me!) Everything is clean and sparkling, comfortable, yet elegant. Our interior cabin was perfect for a place to get some rest, I was on a trundle bed and I was worried about comfort, but it was very comfortable. Our cabin steward, Bagus, made sure we had everything we needed, even though we rarely saw him. Out of 7 cruises, this is the ONLY one where I can say that the cruise director really impressed me. On other ships, the CD was either rarely seen or only mingling with the opposite sex! NoNo was great! She is full of energy, funny, and spent her time with everyone. I loved the music trivia. Stage shows were entertaining, and my son said the comedy shows were very funny. Bar and dining service was quick and all the servers were very friendly. The dining room meals were yummy! However, the buffet for lunch and dinner was hit or miss...but there is always, pizza, the deli, guys burgers, or burritos! Never was hungry. Had room service one night and it was quick, hot, and very good. I did not even see a crew member who wasn't working hard, smiling, and accommodating. Catalina is a beautiful port. My son and GF went parasailing, then we took a golfcart around the island. Having been to Ensenada previously, I stayed onboard while here. My son found a great little beach, walking distance from the port, then a couples massage at Ensenada Massage. Overall this was a fantastic cruise. We all had an amazing time and I am already planning another! (Maybe 7 days this time!) Read Less

We have always flown out of Florida for our cruises, as the west coast did not have options we were fond of. We decided on a whim to try it out. * Embarkation - Great! So fast and easy - very different from Florida. * Ship - Beautiful! This class of ship has beautiful ships - they are older but have less gaudy decor and carpet. The Inspiration was very lovely! Our last day (sea day) was very windy: 30-40mph winds. This made for high swells and rocky waters. We *always* take Dramamine with us, just in case of these situations. You could definitely feel the boat moving. The top of the ship will be blocked off for safety reasons when there are high winds or bad weather. * Cabin - We were in R10. This is in the left (port) side front bottom of the ship on the Riviera Deck (level/deck 4). If you plan to do a lot on the upper decks (10 is lido with the pool and food), plan to use elevators or stairs. We liked this cabin because of the cost and the ease of getting back on the ship after port (embarkation is deck 3). We had two portholes - they are awesome to at least see daylight and know around what time it is. There was a slight odor in the bathroom (from the very first time we walked in). I am not sure if it was from mold or from a pipe. There were days we noticed it more than others. * Cabin Steward - Huge shout out to Dante! He did an amazing job keeping us comfortable and our cabin stayed very clean. He remembered our names (I always wonder how they do that) and always greeted us, and asked if everything was okay. He was very respectful of our times we didn't want the cabin cleaned. * Dining - We ended up having to go with Your Time/Anytime dining. We usually go with the early dining. We did not sit in the same seat/area twice (although I heard you can request this), and had different wait staff each meal. We ate breakfast and dinner in the dining room and were very happy with both. The staff did an amazing job and the food was wonderful! For dinner we ate mahi mahi, prime rib, spare ribs, salmon, steak tacos (Ensenada port of call on the menu); for breakfast we had omelette’s for most of breakfast meals, but had a good offering of sides (hash browns, English muffins, etc.). We are not adventurous eaters, they had a lot of seafood and at least 4-6 different options for dinner, plus options for those non-adventurous eaters. If you do not like your meal, let the waiter know and request a different meal. We ordered sides from other nights with no problems (even if they weren’t on the menu for that night). The wait staff was always happy to please and always took care of you. I was _very_ surprised and pleased when I heard of another member on board having a gluten intolerance - the dining room prepared her a full menu for each day – allowing her to order the night before so they could get it prepared for the next day. So awesome! * Ports – (Itinerary – Long Beach->Catalina Island->Ensenada, Mexico->Long Beach): ** Catalina Island: We LOVED Catalina Island. It was so quaint, cute and a pretty island. We rented a golf cart and toured the island – with no regrets. ***If you do the golf cart tour, reserve WELL in advance! For some companies, you have to just stand in line and wait for golf carts to return. They don’t have a wait list. People were very friendly and we highly enjoyed ourselves. The beach was beautiful, but the water was cold. ** Ensenada: Just as personal preference, this is not somewhere we would go again. We walked the city around 1st street just a few minutes from port and were hounded by little kids trying to sell items – to the point of them following us and walking next to us for ½ a block. After that, we decided to get on a tour bus to La Bufadora ($17/pp) with a stop at the Corona Distillery. The Corona “distillery” was very much like a tiny convenience store. Corona cans are under a dollar. At the time we went, the bathroom was inoperable. Then, onto La Bufadora. This shopping area is 45 minutes away from port. It is a street vendor/flea market. There is a least ¼ to ½ of a mile of both sides being filled with street vendors that are very pushy, direct and will yell out to you to come to their shops. There are a lot of free samples – we were offered a lot of free tequila shots. To give you an idea of pricing, we were interested in a Lucha Libre mask and were told it was $25.00. They asked us to make an offer – which we didn’t. We just moved on. We did not spend much time there. You do have to go through this flea market to get to the blow hole. Sadly, the blow hole was not very active when we saw it – it had a few small bursts, but nothing really big. If we go on this cruise again, we will stay on the ship for this port (again, just personal preference). Overall, we were very happy with this trip. We will go again someday! Read Less

I stopped cruising Carnival several years ago after a particularly bad cruise on the Carnival Spirit but this cruise coincided with grandchildren's Spring break and family birthdays and it was affordable, though by no means inexpensive. Thought the family activities were really fun, the cruise itself left me resolved to not cruise Carnival again for several more years. Two of us shared an obstructed view "junior suite" that was really an average cabin with a balcony so small that you could not sit on it without moving the chairs sideways to the rail. The view was completely blocked by a rescue ship. It seemed that there were few advantages to this class until we compared it with regular ocean view cabins on lower decks. For us, service was pretty much the same as non-suite cabins on other cruise lines with the addition of free bottled water. When we compared it to the standard ocean-view service our family received, though, it was quite different. They received once a day cabin cleaning (no turn down service) and no luggage collection for diebarkation without a special request. The ship has been redone and is generally comfortable. My one complaint was the poor lighting. Our "suite" had bedside lamps that were non-functional and extremely poor lighting in the closet areas. With closet doors opening to the entry instead of the window and no overhead or interior lights, I needed a flashlight to see the clothing storage area. This ship has one fairly small swimming pool that was usually crowded. There was a very nicely designed water slide area that was not crowded that the grandchildren really loved. Entertainment was really awful. The atrium entertainment drove me out with the volume and I spent one sad evening in the piano bar listening to a guy who really couldn't play and didn't want to. I generally avoided it. We enjoyed the spa and found the spa attendants to be better than on most ships. The one drawback there was that the ship redesign put the running track above the spa so that it was quite noisy. Dinner service was spotty. The one night that we were celebrating two birthdays, our desert order was not even taken yet when other diners had finished and left the dining room and their tables were cleared and reset for breakfast. Food was average. Though no fault of the ship, I'm sure, debarkation was delayed nearly two hours and the ensuing lines to leave the ship were extraordinarily long - 35 minutes in our case. As "suite" guests two of us had priority debarkation but chose to disembark with the family. We were unable to gain any privileges for the family, even though the fares for everyone were paid by the "suite" passengers. I would rank this as a good cruise for families with children who are cruising on a budget. Don't expect the service or amenities you might enjoy on one of the other cruise lines but you can have fun anyway. Read Less

Myself, DH and our son and his family (kids 12.10, 8 and 2 years old) went on this cruise on March 26th. I was a little hesitant to cruise on this ship, as quite a few people were not very kind in their reviews. We have been on 12-15 cruises in the past. The ship is smaller than we are used to; however, there are benefits to this. Such as, you don't have to walk a country mile to get to your room or events every day. We booked interior rooms. Normally, we try to get a window or a balcony, but expenses prevented this on this sailing. My daughter-in-law required a frig for medicine and a crib for the 2 year old. The housekeeper had it delivered into the room before 6:00 pm! He kept the room very clean. We only requested morning service. I like to keep the rooms tidy, and with a 12 and 8 year old in the room, it was a must. I know these people work hard, so giving him one less room to turn down was something I thought he would appreciate. He did leave a towel animal every day. We were supposed to be porting in Catalina on Tuesday, but this didn't occur. We found out that the wind was high, and this made it difficult to run the tenders. Tuesday became our full day at sea. I think the smaller ship and its slower moving caused quite a few people to become seasick. I saw a a young teenage boy vomit in the main dinning room. Fortunately, I was the only one to witness the event. We did hit Catalina the next day. Mostly, we walked around for a bit. There isn't a lot for kids to do, so we headed back to the ship for lunch. We ported in Ensenada the next day. Again, not a lot to do there for kids. The 8 & 10 year old opted to stay on the ship at their camps. We walked around a bit, and made a few purchases. We returned to the ship again for lunch. Now, I will say this; the kids were fine with this, as they spent two days prior in Disneyland. The food was good. I found the main dinning room in the evening to be an enjoyable experience. I am in agreement with others who have said that people come to the dinning room very casual. We did dress up (not too formal) for formal night. My favorite dish was salmon and my favorite dessert was Creme' Brulee. Very yummy! The kids enjoyed the dishes served on their menu. The eight year old is a boy, and he was thrilled to have 24/7 pizza and ice cream! The buffet was adequate, and I enjoyed the Blue Iquana was good. I had a breakfrest burrito and I had the tomato and fresh mozzarella sandwich from the sandwich counter twice. The second time I had it on a wrap, as it was too much bread for me. We went to brunch on our sea day, as well as the afternoon tea. Our 2 year old grand daughter is very charming. She waves and smiles at everyone. One of the waiters from another table came over to see her. She ended up liking him so much, she kissed his cheek. He wanted her to dance with him during one of their shows. She wanted to dance with her grandpa. We later learned he wasn't fond of children, so she had worked her charms on him. They made over here every night, as well as the other children. All of them are well behaved. We didn't attend the shows. Some of our family went to the comedians late show. They said he was funny but very "crude." They said the sing around the piano player was really great. We hit Karaoke and trivia several times. They both were a lot of fun. My birthday fell the day after we left the ship. I found a birthday card from the staff, as well as a $50.00 gift card to the spa! I was shocked and thrilled. I went up and purchased some expensive hair products. It was a great touch! Thanks Carnival! The younger three children loved their camp and the crew. They opted to attend more than anything else going on! The 12 year old is shy, so she went less than the others. I do think they all enjoyed themselves. We purchased the FTTF option for both cabins. We arrived after 11:00 am to the port, so they had already started allowing zone one to board. Although, our room was ready, and not having to drag the bags around was nice. We only tendered once, so it wasn't a big deal to use these. Now, on debarking the ship was another subject. We went down the waiting area for FTTF folks at 7:00 am, so we could try to get to Universal Studios by the time they opened at 9:00 am. We didn't get off the ship until 9:00 am. There were people trying to change their flights over the delay. This was not Carnivals fault. We were told by other cruisers that a passenger had tried to bring in illegal contraband from Mexico and was found out. She got into an altercation over this with a crew members. Port Authority held everything up over this. It was a young lady that had been overly drunk the night before. She had cursed all over the place, talked very loudly and tried to take over the comedians act. He didn't stand for it. The family members left every single place they went when she was present. It was sad that so many were affected by one persons actions. Overall it was a good trip. I like a longer cruise, but limited time and the kids wanting to go to the amusement parks, we opted this route. Read Less

We chose a 4 day to Catalina and Ensenada since this was our first time as a family of 6 and wasn’t sure what to expect. We booked 2 cabins next door to each other on the Riviera deck (4) so the kids (13, 7, 4, and 4) could be close to us. The embarkation process went smoothly. We purchased FTTF for both rooms. We didn’t need it because we arrived around noon and it wasn’t crowded but on the way out it helps avoid the lines. Either way I will always purchase it since you enjoy other perks like no line at the info desk, and no lines when getting on the tender to go to Catalina. Also, if there’s a long line to exit through customs be sure to grab a porter and he will avoid the line completely and get you right through. That was well worth $10! We had the most amazing head waiter named Arwin. We have some allergies and he was always very accommodating with a smile on his face. He was so nice that one of my twins got teary eyed the morning we left when he found out he wouldn’t be seeing him again. The food was good. There’s a lot of complaints on this site but honestly I am pretty picky and I liked the food. If there was something I didn’t like I just ordered something else! The burgers at Guys were really good. I only had it once and both my husband and I wished we had it more but we had so many other things to try. Their burritos and taco salads were delicious. Steak, shrimp, roasted corn, grilled onions, the works! Don’t eat the tacos. Not good. Even the buffet is decent. I had potato leek soup one day that was delish! I’m gluten sensitive and they did have gluten free bread, buns and pizza but they weren’t good but I was fine with all the other options they had. The kids loved the water slides, pool, and hot tub. The kids club was also a hit for movie watching and making new friends. We enjoyed craft cocktails at the Alchemy bar and there was never a wait. I think it helped that we were traveling mid week during spring break. The comedy club was fun as others mentioned and hubby won a little money in the casino. Overall, I would recommend this cruise for a nice easy getaway at a reasonable price. If you keep your expectations low you will be blown away. Read Less

Let me first preface this by saying that this was my wife and I's first cruise. We figured we would take a 4 day cruise to see if this kind of vacation suits us. We had heard positive things in the past from other cruise goers and thought we would give Carnival a shot. Getting onto the ship was ok. We were 5 minutes early for our allotted time and instead of letting us wait, which would have been the much faster line the person outside chased us down and forced us into the early line which was quite long. We got on board around 1pm. Entering the boat we were ushered to the lido buffet. Into what could only be explained as a mad ant pile of humanity, it felt more like a sardine can than a boat. It took us 30 minutes of stalking people as they ate to find a seat. Finally we did. The buffet food overall was similar to an average all-inclusive resort in Mexico, bland and cold. The shining star in the buffet was the Deli, amazing sandwiches. We could have lived off the sandwiches and Guys' burgers alone. We then went to find our stateroom. It was as we expected small but functional. We were mid ship 7 deck E135. The windows were so filthy that we could barely see out of them. We chalked this up to the joys of being at sea. Clearly a disadvantage of being on a boat that does not have any balconies. The TV only had 4 stations, TBS, TNT, TCM and one movie channel. My wife's luggage was waiting for us outside, but mine did not show up until 4 hours later. Definitely not ideal but not the end of the world. We saw several shows on board, by far the best was the comedy club, B.T. was hilarious both times we saw him. The other entertainment was very lack luster. We got off the boat at both port stops. We rent a golf cart on Catalina island and this is my wife's highlight of the entire trip, it was a blast! In Ensenada we moved along to a shuttle bus that cost $4 round trip to downtown. We were on this bus for all of 5 minutes before it dropped us off at what appeared to be a back yard make shift market place. We felt uncomfortable there so we found the nearest main road and started walking. We walked for 15-20 minutes before realized we could actually see our boat. So we just walked back to it. We are not your average 30 something travelers. We do not drink alcohol or like to party. With that being said we bought the bottomless bubbles drink package. What a waste! They don't tell you they charge you tax on the beverage you've already paid for when docked. And the only time we could use it was at sit down dinner service. The only place you can get I filled is by a waiter or at a bar, good luck with that. They have self service beer stations but you have to fight to get a soda?! In the buffet they only served lemonade and Ice tea. That's what we ended up drinking the entire cruise. Clearly We are not cruisers! now we know. Read Less
