Our family wanted to celebrate the 70th birthday of the most amazing woman ever! There were three children, ages 5 to 9, several young adults in their twenties, thirties and forties, and three 62-and-over guests! I don’t see how we could have enjoyed ourselves anymore! The staff was super friendly and accommodating, the food was truly amazing in the formal dining room, and the buffets were far above average! The hamburgers at Guy Fieri‘s were outstanding! The entertainment was great! There was plenty to do for everybody of all ages! The pool and spa area were fab, as was the whole ship! We took advantage of the Cheers beverage packages, which was great! The kids also loved all of the activities geared toward them! Our room steward could not have been more accommodating! We ported in Catalina and Ensenada, both of which I have been to several times, but others hadn’t. Everybody enjoyed themselves. La bufadora was great! The other passengers were friendly and everyone was looking for a great time! The whole cruise was very impressive and tons of fun! Read Less

We chose this 4 day cruise as my son lives in the Los Angeles area. Embarkation was smooth and quick. They had scheduled us at 1:30 but we showed up at 12 and we were able to board. We were in 2 rooms - M10 and M14. Rooms were nice and roomy. We were traveling with a 2 year old and she had plenty of room to explore in the room. We signed her up for the childcare but only left her one night as we wanted to spend all the time with her. The childcare seemed great and they give you a phone so you can be called. They also change diapers which I thought was great! Can't say much about the food. It was just ok. Guy Fieri's Hamburgers were excellent though. Our granddaughter loved the children's area, especially the slides. It was chilly though! My husband and son went on the ATV excursion in Ensenada and loved it! In Catalina we just walked around the shops as we had been there before. The entertainment was excellent! Our 2 year old clapped and danced to every show. A little tip about disembarkation - get a Porter! You go to the front of the line and get right off! Would do this 4 day trip again! Read Less

I have taken this cruise before, both as a 3 night and a 4 night. The 4 night fare is usually cheaper since it runs mid-week while the 3 night runs over the weekend. It tends to attract groups of bachelor and bachelorette parties, which liven the trip up and provide excellent people watching opportunities. Not for the Cunard crowd, thankfully. Unfortunately we didn't have great weather - cool, windy, some rain, which killed most pool deck activity, other than the overcrowded hot tubs. The cruise director Benjamin was very energetic and helped make the best of the trip. The gym is small and was not crowded. Good to see that Ensenada is still the same dump it was five years ago when I went on this itinerary. Friendly merchants on the streets trying to suck you in to buy their cheap junk, or visit any of the upstanding massage parlors, where one guy invited me in for a "rub and *** from one of his pretty cousins". My cabin (porthole, upper deck, very much up front) was clean and functional. Pushing the beds together resulted in an obvious divide and I would probably been more comfortable sleeping on a twin. TV channel... movies are good including TCM, CBS News network (extremely repetitive) and some kid channels. If you're up front, you will be awakened at 5am when returning to Long Beach by the ships engines, extremely loud and lots of vibration. I survived, the trip was cheap. Food in the MDR was at least okay, no complaints but not very exciting. The lido buffet was fine, the pizza was actually good, the deli counter is great, and the Guy's burgers were much better than typical cruise buffet burgers, actually very good for any burger. Stand-up comics were excellent, even when they did their family friendly shows they engaged the kids in attendance. Musical shows in the theater literally put me to sleep. The cruise activity staff was small, Benjamin and the person who did bingo (Jax?) plus a couple of people who did games. The cruise has been livelier in the past, but the cool weather kind of put a damper on it. I arrived around 2:30 pm and was in my cabin within 15 minutes. I carried on a 12 pack of coke and a bottle of wine, no hassles. Disembarkation is the dreaded long line snaking around deck 7. Read Less

Carnival Imagination was a great experience for a first time cruise. They have amazing service and the place was always so clean. The buffet had so many options for breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The pride restaurant was a wonderful experience especially for valentines. I recommend having all your dinners there. There was plenty of activities to do on the boat but of course many things cost extra money. They have an arcade, miniature golf, water slides, a library with games, and much more. You can not pay anything in cash so everything gets charged to your cabin. The casino however is the only place you can use cash to gamble which is nice. Be sure to check out all of their activities because they give out prizes and raffle great things. If you are without kids the serenity room which is hidden in the back of Xanadu Lounge, a great gem. My only complaint is that i bought a Happy Anniversary cake from the fun shop. In all the pictures it shows a beautiful heart shaped cake with the words spelled out. When i saw my cake it was round and only had to letters HA, I complained to several people and no one showed any interest in helping me out. It was delicious but very disappointing. In all reviews everyone seems to have had the cake i wanted, my cake was very lazy and guest services was rude because i complained. I would go again but i will never order anything from the fun shop again. And at the end of the trip they charge us 40 bucks each for gratuity so keep in mind this is not included in the ticket pricing. Read Less

Review of Carnival Imagination Sail date 2/2/20 Room type – Ocean View – Empress Deck – E135 My young adult daughter and my late 50-year-old self-took the Imagination to celebrate her bday and to just enjoy some time to ourselves. Why we chose this line and specific cruise: 1. We’ve always cruised Carnival (we’re gold) 2. Port is quick hour flight from our home 3. Very cost friendly and she was paying her own way 4. Just right amount of days (4) Embark was a breeze out of Port of Long Beach – we literally just walked on – we had 12 – 12:30 check in time but were earlier. Although we carried our luggage on flight – we decided to check at port – I might just keep my luggage with me next time although we did receive within 2 hours of embark. We didn’t realize at the time but you walk on the ship on the Empress deck which was where our room was. We headed to the Lido to wait out the 1:30 cabin access time and grabbed a quick bite at the well-appointed buffet; and noted the Guy’s Burgers for future enjoyment. Lido was booming the welcome music and Ben-your-cruise-director – was making periodic welcome announcements and updates. As this was my first Ocean view cabin vs balcony, I was a bit worried about the space however was pleasantly surprised at the room especially as we had our twin beds made into an L shape which left the middle of the room open. Nice, large (albeit could have used a wash) window and usual appointments in cabin and bathroom – as this wasn’t our first rodeo, I knew to bring a small usb hub for multi charging. Beds were very fluffy and comfy and as it was a bit chilly, we asked our steward for comfy blankets and he brought very soft, blue fleece ones for us to use. Was a bit dismayed to find a small pipe in one of the drawers and some used gum under one of the closets - but, I realized we were not on a luxury line and didn’t let this bother me too over much as I know how little time the stewards have to turn these rooms (and no – I was not tempted to keep either item). Room was midship and the deck was perfect – not noisy above and easy to get around from location. As day 1 was Super Bowl, Carnival had several tv screens on around ship and had set up the large Dynasty showroom with buffet and bar and had the game on the big screen. Muster was delayed accordingly until 8:30 and was very brief. We received sad news that due to high winds, we were not going to be able to visit Catalina the next day (it is a tender port and thus, small craft advisories prevent visiting – make a note for those going in Winter/Spring – and, in fact, were not going to leave Long Beach until morning – as this was the port we were most excited about, we were very sad however decided to make best of it and scheduled an excursion for Ensenada and I booked a “top to Toe” spa treatment for my daughter as she was gifted a $50.00 spa gift card via Carnival delivered to our cabin. We were refunded our port fees for Catalina but no other compensation – I did note one couple demanding their money back at Customer Service desk – luggage in hand - Other areas to note: • The excursion we booked was the Bufadora Adventure (?) – while a very nice tour and we had a very nice but beware – you must run the gauntlet of aggressive vendors to get to the blowhole and also are shown what is touted as a wildlife conservatory with baby tigers but is nothing of the sort and is just a sad use of animals as entertainment – and although the baby tigers looked healthy it was just sad. We alerted Carnival to this and as of now, we have not received a response to our request, onboard at the excursion desk, they indicated we were not supposed to have been taken to this or had to ensure the stores. Who knows if this is accurate? • Dining room – mediocre at best – food just isn’t good. Soups however are amazing – broccoli cheddar and steak/ale amazing • Ship overall – ship is older and it shows – but I wasn’t expecting much so wasn’t disappointed. I’m not sure I’d choose this for my first cruise but for our purposes of a short get-away – it was just fine. • We carried off our luggage and had early departure due to flight time – got in line at 7:00 and were off ship by 7:30 and at John Wayne by 8. I have been on several cruises before... always on Disney, so naturally the bar was set extremely high. The reason I was on this particular cruise was because it was gifted to me by my mom. I had read alot of review about the carnival imagination before I embarked (on this site in particular) there were alot of reviews in which people's complaints were things I was not bothered by, there were also many things that I was bothered by that many people have not mentioned. I'll start with the good and end with the bad. The good: the embarkment process was super fast, and easy, faster and alot less complicated than Disney. One thing that I noticed other people were complaining about was the smoking... honestly I didn't mind it...I actually liked it...not because I am a smoker, because, well I am not. However what I liked about it was that the cruise did not solely cater to kids. Their smoking policy encompassed this perfect. There were many areas to smoke that was not just on deck but also inside. Speaking onto their dissregard for kids. That was probably the thing I liked, actually loved most about this cruise. Which is funny because it is what most of the reviews ranted about. Anyways, I don't like kids...I am a child free person who really dose not like kids or their parents they are rude and self absorbed. (To further prove this...there was actually a used dipper on one if the elevator button boxes that a parent had just left there) as I was saying, as much as I LOVE the Disney cruise it is very catered to kids. The carnival was not, they had many casinos, bars, smoking areas, nightclubs, 21+ comedy shows and even an area just for adults with hot tubs. I loved Catalina island the water is clear and the island was beyond expectations. There was quite a few events to keep us busy. The buffet was above average, I loved how they had the cakes cut and served to you by staff (so the kids were not getting their hands all in it) the comedy shows 21+ were above expectation and both comedians should be famous honestly. It was not too packed either. Beds were comfy as hell, state room was clean, and there was alot of good movies available. The bad: I wish we had stayed at Catalina the whole time...if you want to see Catilina this is a good way to do it. There is alot to do snorkeling, parisailing, scuba, and the water was crystal clear. That island was amazing. However ensanada is not much it is polluted, gross, and really is not much more than Tijuana. Your tours consist of getting drunk, fat, or both. On many cruises such as Disney they employ staff from all over the world. It provides a really fun and beat experience. However on carnival unlike Disney many of these staff members barely spoke English. The sit down dinners were a constant battle of guessing games. It would not bother me as much however the staff was rude about it and would get frustrated with you even though they were the ones who did not understand you. More about the sit down dining. I have been to many upscale restaurants and whatever that was is far from "upscale" if you have not had a 5 star dining experience you may be fooled, however. Many of the dinners were nasty and tasted like airplaine food. The chef mixed alot of wierd ingredients in an attempt to be fancy however they kept coming out as nasty concoctions. Besides the food, the "fancy" experience was ruined by the fact that every 5 seconds they needed your stateroom card, and we're constantly trying to sell you stuff. Also of you get the "bottomless bubbles" package (free drinks for your Cruise) you still end up paying a tax....leading into my next subjects. I don't know if you have ever flew with spirit airlines, however if you have you know about their bare minimum experience followed up with alot of "nickeling and dimeing you" (extra charges) one of the things I absolutely loved about the Disney cruise was that everything was free.... everything. However on the carnival many of the restaurants cost money, drinks cost money unless a package is purchased....your ticket may cost 200$ but by the time you spend the money to have a half decent experience you will be 500$ in easy. The pool is way too shallow. Read Less

I picked this cruise because I felt it would be family friendly and it was! Our early bird discount and deal we booked with actually gave us a better price then my husbands military discount would have. The kids always had something to do but did blow a ton of money in the arcade ... over $200 together if I am being honest but it was their spending money. I didn't love that the candy store and sushi place were next to smoking areas :( but when we did get sushi we could get it to go. I really like spirit dinning and our waiter Dodik! nicest guy although we did prepaid gratuities we made sure someone tipped him in our party each night! Most of the staff we found pleasant. We thought most of the Talent was good as well. We loved the Christmas decor and the beds were actually comfy. Catalina was lovely! I wish we were there all days! Read Less

Ship - Smaller side but good for a 3 day cruise Cabin - Inside room (floor 7) close to Atrium - less noise from the outside than expected. Room was sufficient size for 2 people in this case Dining - Food was much better this time than our last trip a few years ago. Guy Fieri burgers were great and the PIZZA was our go-to late at night (24hrs available)... Dining room was good for dinner, but brunch was not good. Eggs were under cooked and service wasn't as good since we were sitting somewhere different than normal. Entertainment - Comedy shows were good as always. Service - Juan was our busboy and he did a great job. Seno did well as our waiter and appreciate his efforts. Ben our cruise director and was pretty funny. Gotta see the love and marriage show! Diva's show was not good and was glad to hear the show ended. Read Less

So the day we arrive is an easy transition. The boat boarding goes very smooth. Were greeted by pleasant employees that carry infectious smiles on their faces. As we arrive we payed for early to the fun so our room was ready. Our room appearance was neat. However the ship was out dated! It had a smell that I couldnt really figure it but it wasn't pleasant. Our rm was u110. We were right next to the electrical room. Every night was HOT! MISERABLE ! THE ROOM SMELLED LIKE BURNT WIRES AND NEEDLESS TO SAY we woke up with severe headaches every morning. We tried to be positive and ask for a fan. Even offered to pay in which we were denied. The ship is of fair size but the ship had alot more movement than many others I have been on. Seasick to say the least. AT THE PORT OF ENSENADA, we get off the ship to do our activity paid and chosen that we paid 189 to do . We rode the four wheelers maybe 30 mins. However the drive to get to them took an hr. No where to use the restroom for hrs. No where to get a drink. However the tour guides were great but did mention because of our American President Trump he could no longer get a passport. Kinda made me wonder. The excursion had so much driving to get to the event we didnt get to explore Ensanada. Back to the ship. The food was nasty except for the outside cooking. The outside food was so much better than the inside. Lastly I'd like to thank the staff because they were tremendously wonderful and were ALL FAR TOO GOOD FOR THE SHIP ITSELF. Read Less

We picked this as a last minute cruise vacation because it's close to home, we had sailed the same cruise on Princess before and liked it, and they had a sale going. The ocean view cabin was good. Our steward was great and kept everything clean. However, the ship is worn. Our closet had broken hinges. The toilet felt like it was going to come clean off the wall anytime I sat on it. [I am not overweight.] it wobbled. The doors sssqqquuueeeeeqqqqqqeeeddd every single time we opened them. The was ONE Power outlet in the whole room. One. This ship was built in the 80s and you can most definitely tell. They literally named a lounge Xanadu. Plus it was slightly racist in the whole Egyptian and "Asian" theme that was underlying everything. The buffet is tiny. It had almost no selection of food. The dining room selection was horrible too. Why don't they have the list of "everyday items" like the Magic did? The elevators run weird. The stairs are very steep. The artwork is super dated and again, 80s. The only thing that looked new was the carpet. They had fans everywhere and randomly we got wafts of sewer, even in the dining room. This was definitely the worst of the 4 ships we have been on. Not because of the crew, they were all great. But the ship itself is in desperate need of an overhaul and modernization. Everything is dented, chipped, and just.. worn out. The only thing that looked okay were the tile tables in the lounges, and the curtain on the stage. Read Less

24 years ago, DH and I did this itinerary on the Carnival Holiday for our honeymoon. Having just paid off our mortgage and celebrating our 24th anniversary, I thought a little celebratory getaway was in order. I chose this cruise based on sentiment and price, as well as proximity to home - being on the West Coast. We sailed as a couple, no kids. Pre-Cruise - Dh and I flew into LAX a full day prior to the cruise. We took a Lyft from LAX to Long Beach, $39.00 plus tip, and checked into our Pre-cruise hotel, the fabulous Queen Mary. Having stayed on the Queen Mary before, we took advantage of the complimentary Red Passport Bus and headed to Long Beach to explore, shop and dine. While there are many great dining options available in Long Beach, if you find yourself craving comforting Pub food, the Auld Dubliner on Pine Ave in Long Beach is an excellent choice. Friendly staff and great food. Embarkation - We literally walked across the parking lot in the morning from the Queen Mary to the Long Beach cruise terminal. We were a bit early so wandered about the shopping stalls set up outside the terminal then took a seat to wait. When it was our time, we entered the terminal, found no lines, breezed through security and customs and then were directed to have a seat to wait for boarding. We only waited 20 mins and then were cleared to board. The only issue I had was that our luggage was not taken pre-boarding, nor was there anyone around to give our bags to. I thought maybe I'd missed a drop off point or porter but I observed everyone toting their luggage onto the ship which was somewhat inconvenient, especially for those with multiple suitcases and bags Ship - This ship is old; built in 1995 and it does show it's age however, it was well maintained, clean and had some updates. My only issues were toilets that would not flush and a strong, recurring sewage smell found in various places on outer decks. Also, I am not a big fan of this class of ship with no single deck that could be walked fully around outside but that is a personal opinion. I also was not thrilled that the only live band was stationed outside the casino and the only bar on the ship that allowed smoking - as a non-smoker, I found it unpleasant to sit and enjoy the band but that again is a personal opinion and others may not mind the smoke as much. Lastly, I really wanted to enjoy the ship's fitness facilities, but they seemed to be a well kept secret. I, along with other guests, spent a great deal of time just trying to find the gym. Cabin - U17 Porthole Cabin - Loved it! First time in a Porthole cabin. Usually we have a balcony but I felt like this category would suffice for this short trip and I was totally right. I found the cabin to be quiet, spacious and comfortable. Toilet issues persisted in our cabin daily - the toilet seemed to lose pressure and would not flush. That said, we did not find the room to have any sewer smell or any other unpleasant odor. Dining - We had anytime dining but actually did not visit the dining room on this cruise. With so many great options, we dined at the Lido buffet where we were able to get made to order omelets for breakfast, subs and sandwiches for lunch along with a vast array of buffet items. We also enjoyed Guy's burgers, freshly made Pizza from Pizza Pirate, as well as freshly made tacos, burritos and taco salads from the Blue Iguana Cantina. If you are a chocolate lover, the chocolate extravaganza is not to be missed! Entertainment and Activities - The cruise director, Mel was quite pleasant, outgoing and involved. From the sail away party to debarkation, she was helpful and maintained a fun atmosphere. This sailing had the usual shows, Bingo, Comedy shows (very funny), Hairy Chest competition, ice carvings demonstration, Love and Marriage show, 80's Music party and trivia competitions. Lots of entertainment. Also, they had the usual sales of jewellery, t-shirts etc. Service - Service was hit and miss - some staff seemed happy and friendly, while others were doing a bare minimum and made it clear they were tired and not in a mood to talk or smile. I actually had one server tell me that he was so tired and had had a very long day and just wanted to go to sleep... that was at lunch time. The bartenders in the Alchemy bar were amazing. Friendly, fun and made extremely delicious concoctions. Ports and Shore Excursions - Excellent! This cruise went to Catalina Island which is part of California. It is a neat, fun little island with lots of great shops and restaurants. Water activities were available as well as many excursions. We opted to rent a golf cart for $50 an hour and do a tour of the island. This provided many photo opportunities and great views. Our next port was Ensenada, Mexico. We opted for a ship excursion - a guided tour to La Bufadora. The entire excursion was well executed. Our guide was friendly, informative and fun. The 45 minute trip to the Blowhole was enjoyable in comfortable motor coach with air conditioning. The Blowhole exceeded expectations, and the market stalls lining the way to the blowhole provided lots of free samples, fun shopping options and banter with locals. Overall, I found the value for money on this cruise to be very high, I got a great deal on the cabin. We purchased the Cheers package and felt we got our money's worth by starting each day with specialty coffees, bottled water and of course, alcoholic beverages. We never came close to our maximum of 15 alcoholic beverages per day. With so many great cruise options and destinations available, I would not rush to do this sailing again but I would consider doing it for a quick, inexpensive getaway again in a few years. Read Less

Reasonable prices... yet the cruise is crying out for remodeling looks like an old vegas casino. Smells very much like one too, alcohol n cigarettes . I don’t feel is family friendly as the bar is right next to the pool. People were too drunk we saw 3 fights not something I want my kids to experience on our family vacation. The pool I feel is too small for everyone on board it gets too crowded... the main activities took place on the days where you can get offthe ship, and the actual day when everyone stays on board not much to see or do.... In regards of the food not much vegan or vegetarian options but like anywhere else is all about getting creative with your options. But the high light of the trip has to be dinner, the staff is amazing made us feel like royalty..... Not sure if I would spend my money on a cruise again maybe I can try a different cruise line, definitely a resort is the way to go, for us as a family. Read Less

This was my first cruise. I do have to say the embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. All the crew/staff members were extremely helpful and nice. My Stateroom Steward was Sebastian. Sebastian was very helpful, caring, kind and hardworking! I did encounter a couple of issues, my bedding had some stains on them and our sink was plugged up. I reported my issue to Sebastian and he had the issue resolved in a blink of an eye. I do have to say I was not impressed with the pool area- The pool appeared green and about 300 people in it at one time. There is an adult (21+) area that had two jacuzzies and gave me the same feeling as if the water was dirty. So I did not go swimming in the pool areas at all. As for the food, everything was GREAT! I felt that the menu accommodated to all people. The shore excursion we chose to do was the ATV. Our tour guide was Diego. Diego was funny, knowledgable, friendly which made for a fun and entertaining ride. TWO THUMBS up for Diego and his crew! One thing that I did not like about the ATV was the route/course that Carnivals promotes on the website, is not the actual course you will be riding through. Carnival needs to update the website cause that is false advertisement. Read Less

This wasn’t our first cruise experience, but will for sure become the last on Carnival Imagination. The stinkiest ship ever. The nauseating blend of urine, bleach, old furniture, filthy carpets was so horrendous that I had to hold my breath when we first stepped on board. I should have left right then. We stayed on deck 7, right by the guest services. The room and bathroom were so stinky that I poured half a bottle of my perfume just to tolerate it. The filth and dirt are everywhere. The dirty baseboards, the stains on the carpets, dust and dirt in the buffet area was so bad that I would rather skip a meal that experience it. We were traveling with a toddler and it was a challenge for me to let him run freely - he would pick up trash, dirt, dust. In addition, in 4 days they didn’t change our bed a single time. We were provided with pillowcases with stains and I noticed them again on the last day packing. I felt so sorry for the crew and staff members who work on this ship. They are doing their best to provide great customer service. Benjamin and Jacki are always fun and cheerful. Kuddos to them! The choice of food in the buffet was very limited and mostly unhealthy. The dining menu was rather simple; there was not a single meal that I would say was exceptional. It was ok, mediocre, average. In fact, on the last day of cruising I got a severe food poisoning from a burrito that I had for lunch from the buffet. I spent all night vomiting and was so happy that this “vacation” was over. Never again I would go on Imagination. This ship should go for a full renovation because it is unacceptable for a company to treat their clients with such accommodation. Read Less

My family and I went for the first time on a cruise. We didn’t really know what to expect, but we have heard it’s a lot of fun!! So this is how we decided to spend my mom’s birthday. We booked a cruise with Carnival Imagination! It was what we had expected and much more!! My family and I had a wonderful time! We felt welcomed from the first step we took on the ship. The entertainment program and the crew was fantastic! The cruise Director, Benjamin, (which by the way I will miss waking up to his “Gooood morning, ladies and gentlemen”) and Jackie were great! We enjoyed the shows throughout the day, as well as the evening program. So many things to do!! The dancing and singing was amazing, I truly felt like I was watching a show in Vegas. The entire crew had so much energy, enthusiasm, and happiness like it was the first time performing the show!! I do remember Ryan’s name because he celebrated his birthday the same day as my mom’s, but the entire crew was awesome!! The comedy show with Benjamin, Geoff and Michael was great!! We laughed so hard!! The host, CJ was very funny too!! The food and desserts on the buffet were very good, many different options to choose from. We were assigned to the Pride restaurant for dinner, where we had the great pleasure to meet Srdan. He was our waiter the first evening. He was very professional and also pleasant to talk to. Although we didn’t get served by him again throughout our cruise, he made sure he came to say hi every time he saw us dine. He went out of his way one morning, making us two lattes, when we asked for regular coffee, even though it wasn’t his section to cover. I also remember Dwi, Rody, and Wahyudi, our service team the second evening. The hostesses, Dragana and Martina were extremely nice too. Although they were there morning and evening, every day, working lots of hours a day, they were always welcoming us with a smile on their face. Viktor, our housekeeping member, was awesome too! Always making conversation with us, asking us how our day went, or what are our plans for the day. Every evening we came back to a clean and organized room, with cool towel faces welcoming us “home”! We know how many hours you guys work every day and my family and I would like to Thank Carnival Imagination and the entire crew for keeping us safe, your hard work and dedication, for offering us a wonderful vacation and making us feel special every day! See you soon!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise (4 day to Catalina & Ensenada) because we wanted an affordable, fairly short cruise. We had a great time and loved our cabin. The crew was amazing. They were always professional and friendly. We loved our cabin steward Arnold who even fixed a squeaky door for us. Our waiters, John and Samdani were the best! The comedians and musical shows were top notch. We loved the Buffet - always good food and good service. Food in the dining room - not so good. The Caesar salad dressing had no flavor at all and the fish was terrible. From other cruises, the dining room is usually the best, so I was disappointed in the quality this time. My biggest concern was the on board bathrooms. They were consistently dirty. Not one was being cleaned on a frequent enough basis. I even saw toilet paper on the carpets outside the bathrooms. Service on some of the decks by the buffet wasn't so great. We were on the back deck and observed every table had dirty dishes/food/glasses on them and it took about 20 minutes for someone to clear them up. Then it took another 20 minutes for the same guy to come back to clean them, but he did a lousy job. He didn't use any type of spray/cleaner and on a few tables, only cleaned half the table. The other big concern - the elevators. My daughter got stuck in one and had to pry the doors open to get out. They were constantly broken. There were lots of Trivia & other games, but the prizes are tempting enough to make me want to participate. Maybe offer the winners a free drink or something, not just a plastic ship on a stick. They really need to offer more activities for the 18-20 year old crowd. I don't know if I will cruise with Carnival again. Read Less

This was a 3 day cruise that departed Thursday and returned Sunday. This is my 3rd cruise. The first two were on Celebrity ships in the Caribbean. This cruise did not match up anywhere near the same quality as my first two cruises. The food quality was fair. The quality was somewhere between fast food and a Denny's or IHop. There was only pizza and ice cream available in the mid afternoon and late evenings. The entertainment was good though and always on time. The ship was smaller, the rooms were smaller and it was crowded. The passengers were about 40% families with minors, 50% adults between ages of 30 and 50 and the rest were seniors. I don't think I would do this cruise again. I was spoiled on my other cruises which had some of the best food I ever ate. I paid $1,470 for an interior room for 4 people. On line app to text was $5 per person, The after cruise mandatory tip was $42 per person. Drinks were $7.62 for a beer and about $10 for a mixed drink ( tips and tax included ). Read Less

My husband and I wanted to go on a cruise to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We choose this cruise because it was closest to where we live and the date worked perfectly for us with our kids getting out of school for the summer. We completely loved the cruise! We got an inside room because I heard that you can feel the motion of the ship more in outside rooms. I was prepared for our room to be tiny, but it wasn't as small as I expected, which was great. With the closets and the desk drawers we had plenty of room this our things. Embarkation and debarkation were quick and easy. The food was great, especially in the dining room. The service in the dining room was excellent, and we loved the little shows that the waiters did at dinner. Our cabin stewardess was really nice and helpful, she fulfilled all of our requests and kept our cabin really clean. The selection of excursions was great. We went snorkeling at Catalina island and we went on a tour to La Bufadora while we were in Ensenada. We had a great time in both Ports. The day at Sea was fun, too, there were plenty of shows and games going on to keep us entertained. Benjamin, our cruise director, was really awesome and kept the fun going. The sea day brunch in the dining room was so amazing! Going on this cruise has wet my appetite for them! I would happily choose this particular cruise again. Read Less

Carnival is a great value for those on a budget but I was really disappointed in the food. We had anytime dining. Here were some exceptions: 1. 5 stars: Featured Vegetarian dish--the head chef was Indian and the Featured Vegetarian dish offered each night for dinner in the dining room was Indian and fantastic (just get extra yogurt sauce if you can't handle spicy food) 2. 4 stars: Guy's Burgers. 3. 5 stars: Strawberry soup appetizer offered in the dining room 4. 4 stars: Caesar salad 5. 4 stars: ice cream (order the banana split off the kids menu for dessert, nothing else was good) In general, I found most seafood and desserts offered to be terrible and everything else to be ok. Steak tip: They charge you for the good steak at dinner but you can get a small portion for free at brunch (Steak and Eggs) Embarkation and Debarkation was a breeze in Long Beach Best fish tacos on the planet: Tacos Lily in Ensenada (your maps app should be able to find it.) Recommended by Anthony Bourdain (No Reservations, Season 8). Next to the fish market. A short walk from where the bus drops off passengers downtown ($8 round trip if you are not doing an excursion). We ate ceviche at another location and didn't have any tummy problems so yay! Service was wonderful. Bed was very comfy, bathrooms were nice and clean We had a 4 year old and she liked the kid's club Noise sensitivity. Bring noise cancelling headphones for anyone with noise sensitivity. Everything was so loud (DJ on Lido deck, Muster drill, any show in the lounges) my 4 year old had her headphones on almost the entire time we were out of our room. Seasick: I got a little seasick on the at-sea day. They will give you free generic seasick pill at guest services for free if you forget your dramamine Birthday: I celebrated my birthday on the ship and on the evening of the second day, they gave me a $50 credit at the spa for use on the 3rd day only. Frankly that left little time to make a reservation but the prices are so high, $50 wasn't really a big savings and I didn't use it. They also gave me a $12 credit for pictures and I did buy pictures. Bottled Water: Since this was my second carnival cruise, I got a large bottle of water free (sign up for the VIFP club) and it was enough, we didn't need to buy any extra water. Read Less

We took this cruise in 2015 and as it was our first cruise we enjoyed the cruise experience and were totally satisfied. With our second cruise on the same ship we noticed some degradation in quality, especially in the dining experiences. There seemed to be less staff to bus and clean tables on this trip. The food was mediocre at the buffet, much better at Guys Burger and the delicatessen. Pizza advertised as pan pizza definetly was not and had a coat of flower on the bottom, crust was dry and thin and crispy. We ordered a complimentary Ceasar Salad it was horrible. Did not resemble a Ceasar in any way. The dressing was a tasteless milky substance and we refused to eat it. Room was clean and well tended by Mega, who was very friendly and attentive. Slight odor in bathroom. Cabin windows needed to be cleaned on the outside. Entertainment facilities were well used and fun, the mini golf area had been renovated since our last visit. Shows were fun and lively. Staff throughout the ship was friendly throughout the ship; although, it seemed far fewer spoke adequate English on this cruise and was often difficult to communicate with general staff. The two excursions we chose were fun and informative, great value. Overall a fun experience and we still consider the cruise full of positive memories. Read Less

People don't seem to review the shorter cruises out of Long Beach, so I wanted to write one for last week. This was our third Imagination cruise from Long Beach, and it was great! Pre-cruise: Got to Long Beach the day before the cruise, and spent the day at Cabrillo Beach (San Pedro) relaxing in the sun. Stayed at the Golden Sails in Long Beach, which was a fine hotel 20 minutes from port. On Sunday morning, we left the hotel at 10:20, with zero traffic, we were parked in the garage at 10:45. Embarkation: This is the easiest embarkation port of the many we have used. We were completely checked in and waiting to board before 11 am. FttF was called at 11:11 (good luck!!) and we were boarded very quickly. Straight to our stateroom (E90 - right off the atrium) to drop bags, and we were at Guy's Burgers before 11:30. Stateroom: Excellent choice (E 90) for access to everything. No problems with noise, smell or stateroom steward. Received twice-daily cleaning as requested. Room was in excellent shape, with comfy bedding and everything in working order. Dining: Had Anytime dining, which worked great. Ate all breakfasts in the MDR, and avoided the buffet completely. Lunch was Guys, Blue Iguana or Deli. Sea day brunch was awesome as ever---steak and eggs was great. All dinners were good, with many choices, and we ordered double appetizers or entrees more than once. Brought case of Coke Zero and two wine bottles in carryon, so we brought our own glasses to dinner each night. Worked beautifully. Day one: Bags were delivered before 12:30, so we were quickly unpacked, and headed to an empty Serenity deck. Relaxed until muster drill, then off to get dressed for dinner. Yes, we dress for dinner each night. Not over the top, but I wore a dress, and my husband wore button up shirt and slacks each night. Comedians were okay this trip, and we enjoyed family and adult shows most days. Did a little dancing in the nightclub. Funniest thing was "80's hour", which was from 10 to 10:15 pm one night! Dance floor was packed for those fifteen minutes!!! Day two - Catalina: Breakfast in the MDR, then ready to tender to Catalina. Expected a crowd, but easily caught a tender with no wait. Didn't even use FttF tendering. Rented a golf cart for about 90 minutes for a nice tour. Walked around a bit peeking into shops for a little while. After that, we lounged on the beach by the dock for a few hours before returning to the ship for a late lunch. Short but fun day. Day three - Ensenada: This was a weird day. We had breakfast in the MDR again, and got off the ship easily at approximately 10:30. Nice walk into town along the new Malecon. The streets, stores, bars, restaurants were EMPTY. It was amazing how few people we saw in Ensenada. Nothing like our past visits. We walked along the main street looking in a few stores. Had a quick (unsatisfying) lunch at a street restaurant, then hit our favorite Ensenada store that sells stained glass, and headed back to the ship. In the two years since we've been there, prices across the board in Ensenada have skyrocketed. Maybe that's why it was dead. Returned to the ship for Serenity deck and relaxation around 2:30. Day four: Day at sea started with sea day brunch, and consisted mostly of the Serenity deck! We went on this trip to relax, and relax we did! Got front row in Serenity, but it was packed by 10:30 that morning - don't dawdle! Disembarkation: So quick and easy! They started self-assist at 7 am. Started calling zones at 8:45, and did a last call for everyone to disembark by 9:05!!! Short wait for customs, and we were back in the car by 10 am. Overall: An excellent cruise for first-timers looking to try cruising, or for seasoned cruisers looking for a relaxing few days. We don't gamble on ships, and didn't drink too much. The ship was oddly empty for the most part (considering this was Holy Week/Spring Break). Never a wait at a bar, easy to get chairs on Lido and Serenity, no long lines at lunch locations. It was downright weird!!! For the price, it is an excellent value cruising experience, and keeps us satisfied between longer cruises. Next up for us a the Legend Transatlantic 2020! Read Less

Cheap and Cheerful Spring Break Cruise. Can’ beat the cabin size real estate ocean view category, value for money. Lots of space for storage,. Thumbs up on moveable storage stands, moved one in cabin bathroom for shelving. Nice side window in cabin. Great staff on board! Food was awful, like TV dinner quality in the MDR! Stick to the Breakfast Buffet items in Cafe. Bar staff friendly and approachable. Shore excursions fun and value for money. Coffee bar and Sushi kiosk, extra cost, but good service and items available. Entertainment was good for all audience age groups. Nice cruise, for families on spring break, variety of activities. Cruise did not seem overly crowded for a holiday sized crowd, lines were minimal, if any. Did not utilize spa services while on board. Beverage package was a great value, no lines at bar. Excellent cruise, except food was terrible and hope Line will work to make it seem less “cafeteria” like. Read Less

For our first cruise my wife and I were a little scared to do a long cruise. What if one of us gets sea sick easily, or can't stand being cramped in a cabin, or we get bored. So to play it safe we chose one of the shortest cruises we can find. Being in SoCal we are also lucky that Long Beach is a short drive away. In any case we chose one of the 3 Day Baja Mexico cruises - known for college kids wanting to get drunk in Mexico. I guess if we had a choice between a ship full of college kids or a ship full of retirees we'd rather have the college kids anyways. Turns out the ship had a good mix of people with families, college kids, older people, etc. Probably on the younger side I would say judging from some videos I saw of the recent cruise in Norway that got disabled and passengers had to be rescued with helicopters off the ship. In any case I didn't want to get a cabin with an ocean view or a balcony on this first cruise. We had to make it the worst possible cabin to see if we could survive. And definitely no problems having an interior. We didn't miss not having a window to the outside world at all. We basically used the room for sleeping in and getting changed for the day, that was it. We hung out on the ship most of the day, either watching shows, playing games, doing auctions, sitting on the decks outside, etc. We had plenty of activities to do on our short 3 night cruise. Our cabin was on Main Deck, which is Deck 5, two decks below the boarding deck Empress. We were mid / aft which was good because the dining areas were right above us two floors. Easy to get to and without any noise. A lot of activities on Imagination are more Forward so we would have a small walk forward to get to the activities but not too bad. I think we would probably try to get Mid Ship if we sailed in the future. Our Steward was great and recognized my wife and I every morning. Room was always cleaned and cute little towel animals left every day. We left all of our electronics out with no problems - didn't feel a need to put anything in the safe. Dining was hit or miss. For the price we paid we can't complain and we enjoyed the food. But picky people beware, the buffet is probably more of an average buffet rather than a higher priced buffet. In addition the food during the evening dinners was good but not something that will blow your socks off. The wait staff at dinner was excellent and we enjoyed the food but it was a little hit or miss. Some dishes were excellent and others were okay, nothing spectacular. Either way - a great first time cruise option to see how well you can handle being on a ship for several days. Read Less
