Horizon was great! Our handicap room, 10205, was excellent. The room was very large, and I could use the scooter everywhere. Even though it is listed as an interior room, the room has an slightly obstructive ocean view size window, and a great view. All the staff were fantastic when dealing with handicap people... from the people helping to board, to the time we left! I was thrilled about that, as I had concerns before the cruise. The only MAJOR problem on the cruise was all the smoke in the casino!! People were having to leave the area allot just to get a breath of fresh air! I had a bad cough after 3 days, and it took me over a week and a half after the cruise to clear up. Other than that, great cruise! The food in the buffet was just okay, definitely not allot of write home about. The specialty restaurants were great!! Read Less

We took this cruise with 5 other couples and we all had a great time. Early and late seating was full when we booked and we were afraid that we wouldn't get to sit together at Anytime Seating but we were able to get a table for 12 and we were able to keep that table each night at the same time. That worked out well. We all thought the food was great--don't know how anybody can complain about the food with all the choices that are available. We were impressed with all the various seating areas you could eat at the Market Place Buffet on the Horizon. We never had a problem finding a seat even at peak eating times. The 2 aroma steam rooms in the thermal suite were great. Most of the steam rooms in most of the ships we have been on are not hot enough but these were nice and hot like they should be. The comedians were very good. The juggler that we have seen before was very good. The dancing shows in the Liquid Lounge were quite an extravaganza but we are sort of getting tired of the dancing and singing at the top of their voice (it sometimes just seems like a lot of yelling that you can't understand). Embarkation and debarkation were a breeze--the best we have experienced in the 19 cruises we have taken. The water slide and sky ride were exciting. We were surprised at how many ships were at each port. 7 ships were at St Martin and 3 of those were the individual cruise companies largest ships. However, the port seemed to absorb the 24,000 people pretty well. Seems like most of the ships leave and return on the week end and not sure why they do that. Would like to see some of them leave in the middle of the week and maybe that would alleviate some congestion at the airport, motels, and ports. Read Less

I am a seasoned cruiser (40+) with diamond status on ccl.Being new the ship was in nice shape. Signage should be better in public areas, such as location of restrooms, beverage stations,&fore&aft. My interior cabin on deck8 was fine, however I still can not understand why they do not provide a chair that has a back on it. I did not attend any shows but the entertainment in the various bars was outstanding ,probably the all around best I have enjoyed on any ccl cruise. Food was average. Why cant they serve real orange juice at the buffet instead of orange cocktail? CCL has enough ships sailing from fl. you would think they would serve a real fl. product. I had been to the ports numerous times&only took a tour in st.kitts which was well worth it even though the windows on the van were too small.Embarkation was delayed by an hour due to the prior voyage having an unexplained late debarkation. My debarkation was fine&it seemed I passed thru customs in record time. The strongest asset of CCL has always been the friendliness of the staff & this staff met (already high )expectations. NOW FOR THE NEGATIVE.I do not take cruises to watch tv,but in the past we always had access to the major networks which would let me watch my NFL games in my room if I so chose.I love my beer&football but sitting in the sports bar from 1 till 11 is abit excessive. This also caused overcrowding in the bar because somany chairs were occupied by non drinkers CCL PLEASE FIX.Also there were many upset patrons who could not watch the SEC championship game.NO MORE CCL CRUISES FOR ME DURING FOOTBALL SEASON. Recently, I returned to Carnival Cruise Lines from a three year stint on Royal Caribbean. I was seduced by RCCL's mega ships, the quality of their entertainment and the novelty of their gorgeous mega ships. However, RCCL lacks something that Carnival has in spades - FRIENDLINESS and Horizon is no different. I'm a solo cruiser and on RCCL, I was very much alone. The staff at the dining rooms never even sat me with anyone else! On Horizon, I met friends on the first day during a tour of the spa and while I had dinner with them most nights, when I didn't, the staff at the dining rooms made sure I was sat with friendly people unless I asked to be alone. Embarkation: This process was not smooth. I had a check-in time of 12:30-1:00. When I arrived at the cruiseport via Carnival shuttle, I had already been checked in at the airport. Thank God! Because the lines to get in were ridiculous. I would have missed my check-in window by hours. When we got to the port, since we were already checked in at the airport, we were ushered through to a line to go through security. I was not happy about being yelled out to hurry up. The staff overseeing embarkation were clearly under a great deal of stress and were taking it out on the embarking passengers! Not cool, Carnival - not cool! I finally got onto the ship and it's a beauty. The Atrium was beautiful and friendly crew were selling lovely drinks. Elevators: One thing you should YouTube is how to use the elevators. They are very different from anything else I've ever seen and the first day was not pretty! They had a couple of elevators going to the Lido deck for lunch and a couple going to rooms. There was a long long and again - the staff was stressed out by complaining cruisers (I'm sorry to say I was one.) Please know that after Day 1, the elevators actually work really great. However, I kept reaching for buttons inside that were not there! A bit unnerving. Cabin: I had a Spa Balcony on Deck 11 and it was beautiful! I really enjoyed that cabin. I had a slight issue with a urine smell in the bathroom, but I left a note for the room steward and it was taken care of immediately. The cabin was spacious (as cabins go) and the balcony just awesome. The room was clean and well taken care of. One thing I do have a huge complaint about is the TV. It wasn't working right. The picture made everything look like an old movie. I did not complain to anyone, so I have no idea what they would have done had I mentioned it. But the worst thing was the lack of content! I think they had TBS and one other channel, some cartoons and that's about it except for cruise advertising channels. Very disappointing. I know most people don't spend much time in their rooms, but I like to kick back at night sometimes and RCCL has many stations and movies available. I really wish Carnival would up their TV game. There were some good movies available for a small fee and some for free. I like how RCCL has movies playing all the time 24 hours a day. Carnival, please improve this. If I hadn't loaded my iPad with NetFlix movies, I would really have been bummed. Steward: The steward cleaned my room every morning, kept me in ice, which I told him I liked when I first boarded, however, he wasn't the friendliest person. He was perfectly nice, but took absolutely no interest in me. On past Carnival cruises, the room steward became my friend. He was there at the beginning of my day and toward the end ever day, asking me if I needed anything, asking me about my day, where I came from, etc. This room steward - nothing. Just polite smiles and that's it. And his tip reflected that. Dining: Fantastic! I had the Java Cafe, which was more formal than it sounded, with My Time dining, which worked perfectly even without reservations (much different than RCCL, where I got a stern lecture on making reservations (jerks)). I only ate there one night, after which I either met my new Aussie friends for dinner at the other dining room reserved for My Time or went to a specialty restaurant. The food and presentation were amazing. I have mixed emotions about showtime. Some nights I had the energy to participate and some nights I was just tired from a full day and just wanted quiet and dinner. I highly recommend a trip to the Steak House! It is totally worth the price. You're treated like royalty and the food is mouth watering from beginning to end. I'm planning on going back for my next cruise in March. I heard a nightmare story about guest services messing up people's cruise accounts, so keep a close eye on that. Being the only person in my room, there was no way they could mess it up. Do yourself a favor and download the Carnival Hub app. It shows you everything that's going on around the ship, you can make dinner reservations, sign up for shows, etc. It also has a chat feature for $5. Gone are the days of looking all over the place for your friends - old and new! YAY! Spa: Carnival has one of the best spas at sea and Horizon was no different. I love the new saunas, but I don't like the way the thalasotherapy pool is right in the middle of the thermal suite with no privacy (like on Carnival Breeze where it is set aside in its own room). There were not enough heated, tiled divans and people were saving them (a habit I can't stand!). Otherwise, if you don't have a spa cabin, I recommend a day or week pass for the thermal suite, which has a beautiful view of the ocean while you relax. The Theater: I was very disappointed in Horizons theater. Other ships have couch style seating with small tables, however Horizons Liquid Lounge just has chairs. It's tacky and messy looking. Carnival - WHY?? The show I went to was with electric violins and the whole theater was set up looking like a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Best - this was one of the BEST shows I've ever seen. Karaoke - get there early or you won't be singing - like an hour early! I never got to sing Karaoke during my trip on the Horizon. During some of the 18+, there were many children under 18 who were allowed to take up the few spots there were. The contest was randomly picked instead of picking from among the best singers. Disappointing. They need a new Karaoke DJ on that ship as the one working it was not personable, did not interact with the crowd, did not sing and did not enforce the age restriction rules. In St. Kitts, I went on the Fan-ta-Sea excursion. The crew was fantastic, the boat was beautiful as was the scenery. I highly recommend this excursion. It is pricey, but you get first class service. These guys worked so hard for us. They were friendly, entertaining and danced with us all the way home. Remember to bring cash to tip them, because you will want to after this excursion. The food was also very good. I saw a lot of sparkly fish, a ship wreck and a giant barracuda. I also saw a couple of really cool puffer fish. This is a long day. The rum punch is excellent and the beach they took us to gorgeous. I was constantly in awe of the beautiful scenery. The crew was happy to answer questions about the distant islands, etc. Oh, and this is just a short walk from the pier, which is always a plus. They did not stop to pick up any other people - straight to the catamaran, a short briefing and then away we went. Overall, the Horizon was beautiful and her crew friendly. I've mentioned a couple of things that disappointed me, like the theater, my room steward's general invisibility, and the TV, but I had the best time of my life! Read Less

That was not a big deal. we packed everything up and Lyndon our room steward moved our bags for us. Lyndon and his crew are great. He is one of the best. Also, we ate in the Reflection Restaurant more this cruise than ever before. Our waiter Slavisa was great. We had table 236 and had a great time with all the diners around us. I really do not have anything bad to say about the cruise. Our cruise director Mike is fantastic and very friendly. Loved the ship , very beautiful. We were checked in at the airport so when we got to cruise terminal, we went right past everyone and thru security and on ship. This was the best boarding process we have ever had. I am an experienced cruiser. I have taken RCCL, Norwegian, and Princess. I am Gold with Carnival. This would be my 6th Cruise with Carnival. We are a group of 30-celebrating a rare feat these days-my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We were all excited to be boarding the brand new Horizon. We did have hesitation due in part to the negative reviews we have read but we all went with an open mind and a discerning mind. I truly am disappointed in Carnival for the ship's layout, the lack of attention to the customer's needs, the poor design of the ship, and the relatively high cost to sail a very short and less detailed itinerary. Yes, I understand that I chose this ship and it only affirms my belief that I was going to have the "vacation of a lifetime" as it is so proudly promised and advertised by the Carnival Corporation. Before I get into specifics, let me just reiterate why Carnival should be ashamed of themselves. A less than appetizing Lido Buffet, very small and not practical pools, a very small Serenity area with no pool, lack of security presence, lack of safety precautions, no attention to the size of a lounge or showroom for a ship holding more than 5,000 passengers and a debarkation system which was hard to comprehend. Now I will go into more detail-listing the pro's of the ship first because there were positives. PROS- -The embark was quite possibly the best I have ever experienced on a cruise. We arrived to the port short of 1230 pm with a 130 embark and were on ship at 1pm-less than 30 minute process. Congrats to that staff. -My balcony cabin on the 10th deck was both roomy, clean, and with enough storage space to fit us comfortably. -The Dining Service in Reflections was outstanding. We were a group of nearly 30 people-children, seniors , and adults. We ordered multiple entrees and appetizers every evening and never felt a wait for any item. Jose and Head Waiter Roger made our vacation bearable. -The Specialty Restaurants-Italian and Steakhouse were worth the extra cost. We also did the Chefs Table and found that experience completely awesome I am disappointed in that Carnival in my opinion, fails to design a ship that takes into consideration the paying customer's needs. For example- lack of restrooms close by to the dining venues, the casino venue and lounge venue. Restrooms that were consistently dirty and without soap or paper towel. Restrooms that did not include a baby changing station. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would short-staff a brand new ship-charging vacationers thousands of hard earned dollars to wait in line for overpriced fried seafood (Seafood Shack), overpriced Coffee, overpriced Pictures that were being pushed every evening and with every jam packed walk down an "open " corridor. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would not best protect its paying customers with a both responsive and visible security force. This ship was jammed with unruly teenage mobs (both girls and boys) who could be seen defecating in the hallways and pools. They were also free to roam the decks at any time of the day or night holding a booming stereo and smoking weed freely in front of other family's. This made for both an unpleasant and unsafe cruising experience. There was no quiet time or lock down time for these passengers either. They would be up and about or causing havoc in their cabins well into the early morning hours disturbing all around them. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would overcharge paying customers for simplicity's previously found. For example- 15.00 to open a bottle of wine that you are already over - charging 25% to purchase on board. Advertising a final bingo prize of 5000 and ultimately paying out just 615.00 that was split multiple ways? Room service items for 5.00 a pop? Shame on Carnival. Shame. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I do realize that there is no control over another passenger's behavior or demeanor while on board but whatever happened to controlling yourself or showing respect to others? Cursing customers, threatening other cruisers or employees with their words or their demeanor. I felt like I was amongst wild tameless animals. I could never relax at the lounge for it was never comfortable -jam packed and no open seating. I did arrive nearly 15-20 minutes prior to a given showtime. I never spent time in a hot tub as they were always filled with kids or packed to the rim with fellow adults. We never went to the pools as they were too small to accomodate the packed ship. These are all design flaws. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it left out of New York and it was a new ship. I thought that everything was great. The food, excursions and the employees. The only place I thought was a rift off was the seafood shack. I had red snapper and it was falling of the bones and had too may bones in it. I wished it was de-boned. It was also over priced. It was $18 just for the fish. The rooms were great. I have no complains. Our steward was great. The waiters and waitresses were also great. I really enjoyed myself. I read a lot of complaints and do not understand why people would go as far as lie about the cruise. For example, someone wrote that they went to Dominican Republic on the excursion where they were supposed to go to the distillery and it was not open on Sunday. That was not true. I went on a Sunday and it was open. Read Less
