First the great. Embarkation was a breeze. We (my wife, daughter and her companion) arrived at our allotted time and we were on the ship within 10-15 minutes. It was the best embarkation experience of our 19 cruises. Great job on this! The food was also great! My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find that this ship had such an array of dining selections and the quality of the food. The main dining room was our choice for 3 of the 8 nights, and all meals were terrific. We ate at the steakhouse twice and the Italian restaurant once, both were very good. Our daughter also ate at the Asian restaurant and loved it. For breakfast my wife and I ate in the dining all but one day and found it quiet and with wonderful service and food. The wait staff remembered our names after the first day. For lunches we experimented with Guys and the buffet. All very good. Our cabin (7305) was a Grand Suite. It was very nice. The balconies on these cabins are very narrow but still nice to have. The service from Agus was top notch. Now the not-so-great. We paid over $400 to get the Thermal Suite. If you are looking for peace and relaxation, do NOT get this. Passengers are rude, noisy, and do not care about anyone but themselves and the staff does nothing to stop it. We also got 5 spa treatments while on board. Most were very good, but the upsell effort was a little too aggressive. Finally, the worst experience we have ever had on a ship was getting off this one. We were supposed to have "expedited" privileges but it was a nightmare. We had our bags checked the night before and waited over 90 minutes to get them the next morning. We missed our flight and had to rebook at our cost. My advice, if you go on this shop and have a flight before 11:30 a.m., do not check your bags. Nobody could seem to help us...we were on our own. Everyone just shrugged their shoulders. I know this is a family ship in the "value" category, so we got what we signed up for. But we probably will not be going back to Carnival even if we are taking our daughter. It's too noisy, too much partying, and that disembarkation experience did it for us. I guess we have officially become old fogies. Read Less

This is not our first rodeo with Carnival. We keep telling ourselves that "it will get better." That is why we decided to book a spring break cruise on their newest and largest ship: the Horizon. Now we can honestly say that the bigger the ship, the worse the service and amenities get. I do have to say that with a ship of this size and about 4,500 fellow passengers, I thought we would have felt somewhat crowded, but honestly we did not. There was never an issue finding a chair by the pool, a wait for a table in the dining room, waiting for service at the bar, etc. The pools were not crowded and activities still felt intimate. The only time you realized how many people were actually sailing with you was when the deck parties happened. Carnival if known for FUN and they did not disappoint in this area. If you are unable to find something to do on a Carnival ship then you are NOT on a Carnival ship. The most memorable part of this cruise and what will probably keep making me come back to the brand is the FUN concept. Our cruise director on this sailing was Schwartz and he was AMAZING!!!! Carnival picked a winner when they brought him on board. Our room was your typical balcony stateroom. The only complaint I had with the room itself is that your key card is what turns on the power in the room. This is fine, but I was quick to realize that when I left the room, all power went out. Nothing could charge, including my phone, camera, etc. while I was gone because I took my key with me. The second complaint is that there is no power outlet next to the bed, but we made do. Ohhh... and the beds must have changed. They were not comfortable at all and you could feel the seam. I don't know if Carnival intended to skimp on the stateroom service, but they did skimp indeed. Granted, we did sleep in until 10 or 11 every day and maybe this is the reason, but our room was only serviced once a day if we were lucky. A few times, not at all. We had to call for towels and toilet paper. Also, I had to call room service for ice after 10:00pm and was charged. However, when our room WAS serviced, an outstanding job was done. Lets talk food... Your best bet is the "for fee" dining. We were only able to eat at the Italian place and the Sushi place because of availability, but neither disappointed. Actually, it was some of the best sushi I have ever had; anywhere. The Main dining room had the same outstanding service and the food was good and nothing was wrong with it, but it just wasn't memorable. I don't care for barbecue so my review of the Pig and Anchor wouldn't be a fair one. Both Guy's burgers and the Taco place are outstanding. If you are able to get a table for lunch for either Ji Ji's or the Italian place, do so. It's free. Some really great looking salads came from the Serinity pool deck for lunch too. Beware of the Lido Buffet for any meal. It is disgusting and there is no variety for any meal. What you have on day one will be what you have days two through eight. The only good item here is the made to order omelets in the morning that you have to wait a hour for because they have one crew member preparing them for 2,000 people. The pizza place is mediocre and you will stand I line here for approximately 30 minutes for 2 slices of pizza. Up to an hour after 11:00pm. Room service, although delicious, is a joke. Everything is ala carte. This can add up. Other lines charge you a flat rate which is acceptable, but Carnival has you reaching deep into your pockets if you don't wait in the hour line for those 2 slices of bland pizza. All of the shows were amazing. The even premiered a brand new show on our sailing and it was a treat. The layout of the auditorium, however, is that of a very poor design. Get there early to get a seat on the main floor, close to the stage, with no pillar. Pools were great. More whirlpools/hot tubs needed. Waterpark was a favorite with the kiddos. All other outdoor activities kept everyone busy during the day. Though my son was upset that they closed the basketball courts during dinner hours. No complaints with the kids clubs. Spa was wonderful. Shops could have carried a few more personal items and apparel. Elevators, though aggravating at first, made perfect sense after a few days. All in all it was a pretty good cruise. I think I like Carnivals smaller ships better. This big ship was, well, Forgettable in some ways. For me anyway. You may think different. Read Less

Not a fan of port of Miami to start. The parking garage for our terminal was full and we arrived at 11:30 am .we had to drive to another garage and finally found a spot on the very top deck, 3of the 4 elevators were broke . I can’t image the frustration for those arriving later or those who were older folks with difficulties walking stairs and having to carry there luggage . I have sailed on many different cruise lines and this was a complete disappointment. Giving this a mid rating. The ship was pretty, the beds were comfortable. We stayed in a balcony room and it was so loud with all the ignorant people who opened and slammed there balacony and room doors all hours of the night . We complained nightly to the manager and heard from multiple people on the ship it was continuous on every floor. The only food that was good was the BBQ from pig and Anchor & Burgers from Guys Burger joint. However these were only open for specific times . The buffet food and dining room food was gross. Even the Deserts were gross except for the soft serve ice cream. I was also extremely disappointed in the wait staff on the ship , I have never seen such minimal wait staff across a cruise ship to assist with drinks . There was only 2 bartenders per bar, and 2 on the deck . I asked the waitress after standing in line for 30 minutes at the bar if she could get me a drink , The deck waitress refused to get us drinks bc we weren’t sitting in a chair , however after 45 minutes waiting in a chair they still didn’t make it over to take our drink order. When you have 3900+ people on a ship you would think they would allocate more to wait staff. We had to wait in line at the bar for 30-45 minutes to get a drink and they only serve you 1 at a time, which was frustrating due to the wait time to even get a drink. This didn’t matter if you were getting a soda or a alcoholic drink. The plus side was embarkation and debarment, smooth and quick less than 10minutes . The 2 comedians who performed were actually funny. We had 5 kids and The kids were disappointed in the camps and refused to go back. There was minimal entertainment. I won’t get back on a Carnival ship again. I saved for 2 years to bring my family on a cruise that cost over $5K and everyone was disappointed. Read Less

Just returned from a 6 Day Western Caribbean on the Horizon. Everthing from the ship to the service was top shelf. Not a fault of Carnival, the Port of Miami is a mess. There is no communication of closed parking lots and updates. We had to park at Garage G for our ship which was close to 1/2 mile away. Could not find a shuttle to the terminal so we walked. Glad the luggage had wheels. The path was not direct and not pedestrian friendly. Embarkation was easy and the rest of the cruise was wonderful. Stateroom clean, food delicious and the staff was friendly and out going. Only negative of the ship was the smoke in the casino coming out into adjoining public areas of the ship. Not much Carnival could do so we avoided the areas. Waterworks was fun for all. Did not do the specialty dining and we thought the MDR was 5 stars. Debarkation was ok with some snags in the line once in the terminal but we survived!!! Cannot wait for our next trip..... Read Less

Not worth the money... over crowded deck, slow restaurant service, at full capacity shows, long wait lines. Day 1: room was not stocked with towels, hand soap or animal towel. Day 2: went to deck and placed towels on chairs while I took kids to the obstacle course on the next deck up and then down to the pool. Came back 30-40min later to a ticket stating the towels sat for too long unattended and I can find my belongings in a bag at the towel bar. At this time all the chairs in the sun were taken front, sides and back of the ship filled. The only spot available was in the shade with an obstructed view of the ocean. Day 2: night we placed our kids in camp ocean ages 7 and 8. Kids were super excited to go due to prior camp ocean experiences on other ships. We picked our kids up two hours later to 2 of 3 crying saying they never want to go back. They hated it, no games and/or arts and crafts. They made kids participate in scheduled activities. They did not provide alternative options. My daughter wanted to color instead of playing in their olympics and they told her no. They have a terrible child to teacher ratio. At one time I counted 28 kids to 3 adults. Sea day brunch and dinning took over an hour to get our food. Comedy shows were sold out every night. People started to line up an hour before hand. Terrible seating options. Seats are individual chair-no booths so there is limited seating. All in all it was not an enjoyable experience, not worth the money, our family will not be rebooking this shop again. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I like the new larger ships. It was also easier for my bother to fly into the area from Sweden. We traveled with 5 sibs and spouses, also my sisters oldest son and 3 of his kids. Loved the ship, but missed the awesome spa we are used to from the Breeze and Dream. They did away with that great thalasso pool! I sure did miss that! Another disappointment was the new lounge. They changes from those old school large seating areas with tables to basically folding chairs on the ground level, other seats were very hard to see anything. The dinning seamed to be better then past Carnival cruises, including the main dining room. We stayed in a spa balcony cabin, nothing changed here, still a nice room, but seams like they could work on giving the cabins a fresher look. Our steward was fine, not much interaction like on other ships. Did a great large group excursion in Cozumel, Private Oasis At Passion Island! It was $739 for up to 12 people. They treated us like Platinum VIP guests, food, drink and our own private area of beach away from others on the island. Check it out, it must be catching on, because the price just went up to $799. Para sailed in Grand Cayman, also fun, we always book with the Carnival website. Both embarkation and disembarkation went very smooth, We are Platinum sailors, but the others in our group were not, and we all managed to get on ship the same time. Read Less

Everything was perfect! We loved this boat. Our Stewart Ian was fantastic. We stayed on the Havana deck (5). It was so nice we never explored the rest of the boat! It was so worth the extra money. Carnival has changed the way they clean the your state room. If used to be twice a day, now it is only once. Your Stewart will ask which do you prefer morning or evening. The downside was not having fresh towels for that second shower of the day. It wasn’t that big of deal. If I had to pick one thing I wished it was done differently it would be the siding doors had a key pad or an exit to go directly to the pool. As it is now you have to lock your sliding door from the inside and walk through the bar to get to the pool if you want your room locked. It wasn’t a well thought out plan in my opinion. Other than that we had a wonderful time and we would do it again! Read Less

We are platinum members on NCL. We thought we would give Carnival a try. Embarkation was a breeze! From cruise port door to lunch in less than 45 minutes. Great job on that. Our spa balcony stateroom was lovely, nice colors, plenty of space, comfortable. Our cabin Steward, Alfredo was top notch, friendly, always around and just a very nice young man. We thank him for being so attentive. Most common areas are ok to look at nothing that elegant or fabulous. People go crazy over the elevators but we found it very efficient, our cabin was on the top of the ship, we had no trouble with the elevators. The thing that made this cruise was the Cruise Director, Schwartz! He was really terrific and made the events quite fun. There were so many things we enjoyed in the area of entertainment, this is another thing Carnival does really well. The movies on the deck were quite enjoyable as well. Nice touch offering blankets! We enjoy the spa on any of the ships we have been on so we booked the spa balcony. The first day the staff was oh so nice after that wow they got crankier and crankier. The spa itself is very disappointing, the thermal pool is pretty tiny and can't fit more than 6 people. They do have the wondrous stone loungers but if you are not able to get one, well there's no place for your to relax and you have to leave if you have done the steam and sauna etc. The locker room was adequate. We booked the Italian restaurant and the Steak House for specialty dining, but also went to Pig and Anchor one night. The Italian restaurant was terrible. Food was cold and quite underdone, we left most of it, the Steak House served a great meal and is worth the cost. Pig and Anchor...oh my! Lunch there was pretty awful as well. Does Guy Fieri follow up on his namesake? If he did he would find out that this place is butchering his name, the food was barely edible. Most of it tasted like reheated frozen food. So that left the main dining room and buffet, both served pretty miserable foods any time we tried dinner there. Breakfast was ok, not much on flavor or variety. Trying to get an omelette at the buffet was a long long wait. The Gelato at lunch time was delicious! Cakes we pretty and mostly not very tasty. I will give good words to the Pizza place, Blue Iguana and the Guy's Burger place, all three served pretty good foods. We are still reeling from some stomach ailment we got on board, not sure what it was. The adult area, Serenity was nice but getting a chair is virtually impossible unless you go up at 6 am. Wow! It was always hard to find a place to sit, you end up milling around until you stalk someone leaving. Perhaps Carnival can convert this area or part of it to a limited access pay for area with guaranteed seating. I'd pay for that! Casino was smoky and pretty smelly, we stopped in for a brief few minutes once or twice. Getting off the ship and back on at the ports was also very easy and quick, I give Carnival great praise for people moving overall. We did our own excursions so I can't speak for ship excursions. We went to Bohio Dive Resort in Grand Turk, walked all around San Juan and had dinner at Vaca Brava, went to the Marriot St. Kitts on a day pass, and the most fun excursion was Billy Bones Cigarette Boat All Day Excursion, it included snorkeling, beaching, lunch, airport beach and more swimming/snorkeling. Lots of fun! There are a lot of things this ship does well, there are things that this ship does not do well. If a nice dining experience is important to you, I would not recommend this ship. I can't speak for all Carnival ships just this one. Overall, I give high praise to Embarkation and Debarkation, Cabins, Cruise Director, Room Steward, Steak House and Casual Lunch at Pizzeria, Blue Iguana and Guy's Burger. We unfortunately will not try another Carnival Cruise. Read Less

Good: The ship has so many nooks and crannies and places to get away, there was always a way to party or take it easy. Loved the skyride and my kids loved the theater and the water slide/ ropes course/ sports complex. As far as bars go, we Adored Pig and Anchor enjoyed the presentation at the alchemy bar and had fun at the comedy club and ocean plaza bar. The service was outstanding everywhere, except maybe the red frog rum bar, but they are busy ALWAYS. Ivana makes the best bloody marys at Pig and Anchor, Marvin was our room steward and he did a great job of taking care of us. Ollie was our waiter in the dining room and he was always going above and beyond for our big group of 11. Schwartz was the best cruise director I've had on a ship, he made the parties great. Sea day brunch, guys burgers, blue iguana cantina were great. We stayed in the family harbor area and loved our room and the lounge was really helpful, especially on port days for eating breakfast or having a small lunch when it was late, and awesome that we didn't have to go to lido on debarkation for lunch. My kids also loved all the free movies. The ship was also very smooth. Lastly, it was the smoothest embarkation and debarkation ever. Bad: Our room was an ocean view family harbor deluxe. It was a nice size, but tight for 5 people. (Go figure!) It needed more storage also. A big downfall is the room was underneath the elevator on the third floor and it was loud EVERY morning. We ended up borrowing an ambient noise machine from my sister and it helped a little. Also, the ship has a confusing layout, and my husband never really figured it out. The pools were really small too. Food in dining room was hit or miss. Read Less

The ship, the Carnival Horizon, is very nice and the decor very eye appealing. The staff was a friendly group and willing helpful and accommodating. The food was ok but not exceptional in any way. It was rather repetitive actually except for the evening meals in the dining room. The dining room evening meals did offer a variety but was just ok in the preparation and taste. I probably would have given the ship a rating of five overall except the food lowered the score. “Schwartz” was the cruise director and rated in my top three all time directors. He was super! He stayed on top of things, was very energetic, seemed to enjoy his job, and actually was some of our best entertainment. It was a very relaxing, enjoyable cruise. Read Less

Embarkation is standard - when you check in online, you get a 30 minute window to show up. If you show up outside the window, you go in another line. Passports are check before security. Keys are in your room mailbox. Getting on the ship is much faster now. Carnival app - not sure why no other cruise has this. Has all activities on the app. What food is available. Chat with your group for $5 for the entire cruise. Can check into dining for any time dining. Maps of decks. A lot of rooms are smaller and used more efficiently. The main theater is on 2 floors instead of 3. Only some small tables on the outside. The main floor seats are like dining seats, so they can be move around based on the show needs. No tables so there are more seats in a smaller area. There is a bar in the theater. Punchliner club is smaller as well. Moveable seats with no tables. Seems like less capacity than before. Need to line up to get in. There wasn't comedy every night like other ships. Not sure if that is the new standard or because this ship has a higher focus on kids. The 2 comedians on this ship repeated shows. I've been on other Carnival ships where the comedians never repeated a show. Water park area looked good for kids - large play area and 2 water slides - longer than avg. Theme is Dr Suess - Cat in the Hat and Thing 1/2 were on board. Skyride - like a bicycle in the sky. It's more exercise than a ride. There is one part where it is downhill on each track. There are 2 tracks - same length. 2 cars per track, so it can take a while to get on. Absolutely nothing allowed in your pockets - they have temporary lockers to put your belongings in. Skycourse - obstacle course in the sky. 2 tracks - 1 easier than the other. Normally lines weren't long for this one. Walk across an elevated course tethered to a beam above. Cabins - we had an inside cabin - they are shorter and wider now. Instead of 3 door cabinet, there are 2. from the washroom door in, the wall is on an angle so there is more room by the desk area. TVs are large 42" LEDs. Very few channels. CBS news instead of CNN. Beds were comfortable. Luggage fit under bed. Washroom same size as before. Desk has 2 usb plugs in addition to regular power outlets. Mini fridge in room. Standard safe. No more controls for speaker announcements. Shower have containers of shampoo and body wash. Shower head power is adjustable. Test water temp for kids - can be very hot. Room stewards come once a day - you can ask for 2x a day. Thermostat is electronic instead of dial. Dining - seemed liked there are more any time dining slots now. Food was excellent- as good as more expensive supposedly luxury cruise lines. Service was great. Big emphasis for servers to address you by name. For any time dining, you check in on the 5th floor by the cafe. They give you a ticket with your table and then you proceed to the restaurant. The carnival app allows you to check in on the app- tells you your table number when ready and you just show up at the entrance. Lido buffet - seating decor is much nicer now. Looks more like a restaurant. Food is no longer against the kitchen area. There are 2 rectangular areas for food. More efficient use of space. Separate area for salads, desserts. One day was chocolate day - entire area of chocolate cakes/treats. Snacks - Pizza normally has a line. have about 5 types of pizza, but mostly make cheese and pepperoni. Deli sandwiches. By the pool, there is a Mexican shop and Guy's burgers. Juice was always available - other ships they were only available at meal times. Specialty dining - seems like with the extra space they have more specialty dining. Steakhouse, seafood, Guys bistro, Sushi, Teppanyaki, Italian. There is a brewery on board. Entertainment - standard singing and dancing. Dancers and female singers were strong. Male singers were ok. The other musicians were more geared to the older crowd - little odd given the kids theme. Shops - more shops. Jewellery store was one of biggest I've seen on a ship. Usual great alcohol deals. Candy store is about 4x bigger than other ships and has ice cream. Atrium - main 3 story atrium has your standard bar. There is a seperate area for musicians now, instead of playing on the main floor area. There is a 3 story column that is basically a video screen - images are constantly changing. There is a 2 story one in the casino. Pool area - main pool area only has 1 pool now instead of 2 - allows for more chairs and room for dancing....makes sense. the upper decks are now narrower and only have room for 1 row of chairs vs 2 on other ships. They added a pool on the 5th floor aft of ship- need to go through Havana room to get there- not sure if it is only available to rooms backing onto the pool. As the upper decks are narrower, it is an issue to get chairs on sea days. Go early. They do walk around and put sticker on unattended chairs warning they will come back and remove your towels. Some aggressive passengers will remove your towels even if you haven't been away long. Photos - finally using technology. They are available to view electronically. they ask for your cabin # when they take your picture and you can view them later for purchase. Movies - standard big screen by main pool area. Also an IMAX theater on board - $10. Casino is still smoking. The walkway goes through the middle of the casino instead of the side....so we avoided crossing on deck 4. Ventilation was poor. Kids clubs - looked great. Dr Seuss theme was nice. If I had young kids, I would go on this ship. Looked like a lot of fun for young ones. Ocho Rios - dock right by Ocho Rios beach. $3 to get in. Clean. Go to the further area - less sea grass and less people. Water sports are available. We went snorkeling out to the reef less than a mile off shore - there was 4 of us - they started at $45 each, we got it for $20 - not much out there. There is zero snorkeling on the beach. To get to the beach, hang a sharp left out of the main port gates, towards the marina. Grand Cayman - have to tender into port. Can take some time to get off ship. If you have your own tour, go early. Sit on the upper deck to get off faster. Cozumel - The port is south of the main city. They force you to go through a duty free shop that is super narrow - like rush hour in a subway. There can be up to 4 ships in at once - I think they time it so no more than 2 arriving at the same time. They have dogs smelling for food in your bags, which slows things down as well. A variety of vendors in port - seemed expensive. Don't do the jeep tour - complete waste of money - rent your own jeep and drive around - it's safe and the roads are not busy, no crazy drivers like other islands. Jeep tour takes you to a tequila place and tries to sell you over priced tequila, then to a fruit juice place charging USA shopping mall prices, except they don't have minimum wages, rent or taxes, and the lunch places charges more for water than in the USA - completely taking advantage of tourists. Beaches on the east side of the island had nice waves - not suited for kids. if you have kids, go to Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park - just take a cab, not a tour. It is just south of the port. Debarkation - we did self debarkation. Was easy and fast. Customs was faster than normal as well. Summary - if you have young kids, this is one of the best ships to go on. Otherwise, better value on other Carnival ships. Read Less

Embarkation flowed well Only issue was our new, unopened bottles of SMART water was confiscated by Security for the reason they said "you can't have plastic bottles on the ship." However, you can purchase plastic bottles of water on the ship, and you can bring them on in the ports, and there are plastic recycle bins on the ship so apparently you can have plastic bottles on there. So, terrible reason Carnival; come up with something more honest. Also, if you can't have plastic bottles on the ship then 3/4 of my toiletries should have been confiscated too. I think they wanted our SMART water for personal use. Another confiscation was my travel iron "they" said for safety reasons. When you pull your room card out of the wall socket it shuts down all electricity in the room. So what is the safety issue? The curling irons and hot rollers don't get confiscated even though they use the same electrical outlet as the iron. Don't try to be pro wrinkle free; you have to go join the masses waiting to use the iron if you want to look nice on formal night (go early; you'll still be in a line) Once on the ship our room wasn't ready so we went to the Marketplace (buffet) and chilled. I liked the addition of the bar tables in addition to dining tables. Our room on the Spa Deck was really nice and looked just like the website photos. I did not like this ship! All through the ship you can see Carnival $ cutbacks. This ship is computer controlled everything. Hopefully, there is a backup plan for computer crashes and computer dumps. Compared to other Carnival ships the decor is boring, the clubs are boring, the biggest disappointment was the Atrium; so boring. Showtime is no longer like Broadway shows or broken up by other acts. Every night was the same group of young people singing. That was it, just singing all the way through the show. The club was unimpressive, while the group was singing "they" would digitally display these unfavorable backdrops. The midnight buffet is the same food as the dinner buffet; no longer the extravaganza display of food and talents, ice sculptures, etc. Another huge noticeable cutback by Carnival. The mercantile store was replaced by a Victoria's Secret store. So be prepared and bring enough sunscreen, headache pills, women necessities, etc. We ate our meals in the dining room for food quality reasons, but beware, there are extra charges for food in the dining room. The pool games were boring; not like the pool games of the past. Even the men's hairy chest contest is not played the same. The casino is a designated smoking area so it ALWAYS reeked of nasty, stale, gross, cigarette smoke. The second hand smoke in it will kill you -- take a mask with you to wear in it. We liked the ports, did an excursion in each of them which were all good, milled around the tourist shopping areas and felt safe. Enjoyed the outdoor movies under the stars. Don't stand in line for popcorn; the popcorn is stale and cold and hard to eat. Cruises of the past you weren't moneyed to death by Carnival for everything; now you are and on top of the pricey cruise price that you would think would cover more than it does, get ready to pay out a whole lot more. I suggest you watch the daily Fun Times for all the dining places available and take advantage of them. The only thing I found on the ship worth the money were the specialty donuts at Java Blue. I spent our whole 8 days reflecting on cruises of the past and comparing it to this one. So disappointing in so many areas. You can definitely tell where the $ cutbacks are. I actually felt bad for all the new cruisers and the young people for they don't know what they are missing. Read Less

My son picked this cruise and i did enjoy the islands, but most of all i enjoyed the weather, everyone seemed to experience snow and cold before hand. Getting onboard was amazing, we just walked on and were have lunch in like 5 minutes. The elevators worked fine if you followed the protocol of one click per person in your group, but many people would just join in our car and then when the door opened up on another floor already full, those people got mad, this especially happened on port days, so folks, follow the rules. We really do love kidding the staff they all made us laugh. Chairs were forever saved by a towel or shoe for hours with no one in them , to those people, i think you are rude and only thinking of your self. We laughed when the very strong accented captain came over the loud speakers for the daily update what he said was: this is the captain speaking from the navigational deck, what it really sounded like was: this is the captain speaking from the irrigation ditch, haaahaaa we always laughed at that one. Favorite port was curacio, wish we could have stayed a day more. There wasn't much for the 13 year old to do, so that needs to be worked on. How to entertain kids that are too old for camps and bashful. Read Less

This is our 5 th cruise and by far most disappointing one! Food options that you don’t have to pay for are very limited and the almost the same every day. Salad bar is basically non existent. Breakfast doesn’t start until 7, so if you are a early morning person you have to wait forever to eat. The entertainment was no where near as good as any of our previous cruises. And it they scheduled everything around the same times. So you spend all day with nothing to do unless you want to pay $12.95 to watch a movie in the imax theatre. This is the only cruise we have been on that you don’t have to be early for the entertainment. You can show up 10 min late and still get a great seat. I could go on and on but don’t I don’t want to rant. We will never cruise with carnival again! Very disappointed! Read Less

Everyone was wonderfully friendly. As a first-time cruiser I really didn't know what to expect and was open to anything. We were a party of 5, (mom, dad, 2 kids ages 7 and almost 3 and Nana in tow). All first-timers! The food was very good and plentiful with many choices. For breakfast Lido marketplace was the place to be; omelettes, Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, bacon. Anything you could think of - cereals, fruit, danishes it was all there, and I sure do miss it!! Their midnight buffet had three selections, my favorite being the grilled ham and cheese sandwiches . They were awesome for late-night munching. If you're looking for BBQ the Pig and Anchor is YUMMY, go on "at sea" day for lunch at no cost. One thing, the beverage pack doesn't seem cost effective and if you're a Pepsi person you might do better bringing your own. So much entertainment and found many things of interest but always seemed to gravitate towards Lido deck aft to meet new friends, chat and laugh. Very kid friendly- waterworks, build a bear and Camp Ocean was great for them while we adults took a little time for ourselves. Shore excursions we booked lived up to expectations except one. My Sea Trek excursion was cancelled last sec, literally, because of compressor malfunction. But better still on dry land instead of underwater at the time. This is the only reason I gave 3 stars for excursions. Was offered any remaining excursions for 35% off which was appreciated but sadly I panic trying to snorkel. Overall the GREATEST vacation I've ever had!! Bucket list- Cruise Caribbean check! Read Less

i chose this cruise in order to be on the newest carnival ship, i enjoyed all the new amenities on this ship, was however dissappointed in some things. the one thing i was really looking forward to was the sky course which was unfortunately under maintenaice for our whole cruise , this was one of the reason we chose this ship., this was very disaapointing ,i also feel like the dinner menu is getting pretty bad, this was my 8th cruise and i use to dress up and go to dinner each night but for this cruise and my last one , i have skipped dinner several nights because the menu was not good at all, you can get the same stuff at the open service on lido, menu needs to be revamped, my last complaint is the hold carnival places on your account on the day of embarkation, it is probably written some where when you book your cruise but it needs to be high lighted or place in big bold letters so you are aware, this caused lots of confusion and my daughter account to be locked to futher charging ability beccause we were unaware of this. thanks to Talum, customer service manager for helping us out.good things were , we had a great cruise director, so much energy and fun, the carnival app is great, down load it to your phone and you can get all the info you need, everything, also the tv in your room has all your account information, you can view your pictures, this great !!!!!!!good job carnival, overall i had a great time and wonderful memories Read Less

Carnival Horizon is a beautiful ship! Ship maintenance seems to be well done and few, if any, common areas require additional maintenance. The crew members were friendly and went out of their way to ensure a carefree vacation for my wife and myself. We really felt that the crew members were motivated to provide excellent, friendly service. Our stateroom. #7426, was larger than most inside staterooms I've experienced on other lines. Fit and finish were excellent as was the care that our room steward took to ensure that each of our needs were met. This is one of the few times I did not feel cramped in our stateroom. Our room was very quiet in the evenings. Dining - ate breakfast and lunch on the Lido Deck, and dinners were taken in the Meridian Dining Room upper level. Breakfast - it's difficult to ruin a breakfast meal. Buffet items were limited and each buffet counter was a pretty much the same as all others. The eggs to order lines became long but chefs did a good job of preparation. Lunch options were improved over breakfast with Guys Burgers, separate BBQ smokehouse "Pig and Anchor" and a Taco Stand which were all excellent. We all enjoyed the automatic hand washing machines on the Lido Deck. Dining in the Meridian Dining Room was generally excellent. Our servers at table #646 were attentive and exceeded expectations each evening. The menus were tasty and the preparation was generally good. Kudos to the cruise line for including good cuts of Prime Rib and one night of Lobster!!! My only complaint was the Fried Chicken meal where the chicken was cold and the mashed potatoes wouldn't melt the whipped butter I put on top. The fried oysters were actually raw oysters inside a thick coating of flour. The entertainers were very good and the quality of the musicians was excellent given some challenging material performed without error. We enjoyed the shows and felt that the rooms were well managed and the supporting crew was very good. The Cruise Director was engaging and made us all feel at home on the sea without becoming annoying as so many directors do. Getting on and off this ship was a study in efficiency. Very good work by staff!!! Read Less

This was our 5th Carnival cruise, and our third to the Southern Caribbean in January. We choose this itinerary because the weather is always 80 degrees or above in this part of the world during this month, so "Fun In The Sun" is guaranteed regardless of where you are coming from! Now to the ship. The Horizon is beautiful and well thought out in its design. The transformation of the LIDO deck buffet from the single line concept, to multiple serving areas made for less congestion, and quicker service. My family and I were able to walk up, grab a plate and our food, and immediately sit down for a meal. BRAVO Carnival! We also found plenty of seating available, which made for short meal times allowing us to get back to the fun! The staff in the LIDO buffet were excellent by greeting everyone, clearing tables quickly and even walking around offering to gather more drinks, or desserts. I also enjoyed the speciality restaurants, including Bonsai Sushi and Pig & Anchor. Both are excellent with the full Pig & Anchor restaurant on board offering those amazing Greens and Barbeque at anytime a plus. You can also eat for free on Sea Days for lunch. Normally, my family and I are not MDR folks, because we travel for work often, and are not looking to sit down in a restaurant for a meal for a long period of time. The Horizon is the exception. We had breakfast several times, being served by the wonderful Harlene and Tomina, and used the Carnival app. to reserve a table for dinner, where I had the grilled lobster, which melted in my mouth. Including Pizza, Guy's Burger, Blue Iguana, and other food locations, Carnival provides a meal option for all cruisers on board. The cabins are also one of the reasons why I sail Carnival. If available, I would definitely book a Havana suite. But, I have a beautiful five year old daughter who comes along, so I have to go with another option. Must be 12 years or older to book a Havana room. Here's a tip, the hot tubs and pool in the Havana are open to everyone after 7 pm, so head on down for a virtually private bar, romantic getaway, or family fun time. Carnival handles other customers by offering Family Harbor Suites with a private fun area, and other excellent options. I could afford a balcony, suite, etc., but being the cost conscience guy I am, I always book us in a QUIET, Deluxe Ocean View Suite, located forward of the ship. Why? It has two bathrooms with one being a full , and the other a half. If you are a husband with a wife or daughter, no need to further explain why this is important. Secondly, the square footage of these rooms is 230 square feet, with none of that space being used by a balcony. A definite plus for us. Being a regular cruiser, I am also aware the Family Harbor suites are near the Aft of the ship, and below the galley. It can be very noisy so be careful in where you book here! Our room was clean, comfortable, and our Steward Suli was excellent. There when you needed him, and disappeared leaving you to enjoy your cruise at other times. Entertainment wise, Carnival has it all. We normally don't go to the shows, but speaking to other passengers these were excellent. The Southern Caribbean itinerary is one of the best at sea, which includes Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao, and Aruba. Don't be afraid to explore La Romana, we hired a driver for $25 per person and explored the entire city. Just be prepared to say NO to some aggressive vendors along the way. The other ports are quiet, beautiful, and can be enjoyed by walking if you choose. Both embarking and disembarkation were painless and efficient. We always leave our rental car at the Miami International Airport, check in at the Carnival Kiosks located near the baggage claim areas, then the entire family rides in a taxi to the port for a flat fee of $27. Yes, I said $27! Compare this to taking the carnival shuttle, or other travel options where you have to wait for the bus, ride with a larger group, etc. $27 is the authorized fee for taxi service to the port in Miami, and being Florida residents, by driving down in a rental and picking one up at the airport after the cruise, we save a ton of money on both travel costs and parking. Also, by checking in at the Kiosk, you are allowed to go directly to the Security Line at the port and walk right onto the ship during your assigned time. No need to pay for Faster to the Fun and and no waiting in lines at the port! We still travel to Miami and spend the night before our cruise in a hotel to avoid any last minute hick-ups. Highly recommend Carnival, and enjoy your cruise with them! Read Less

My wife, two kids (11 & 7) and I cruised on the Carnival Horizon in early January. It's my second Carnival cruise, my wife's third. It was our first time on a "big ship", we sailed with just over 4800 passengers. Embarkation was a breeze. We had an appointment for 1:00pm. We arrived at 12:45 and was on the ship by 1:30.First problem: when you get on the ship, they are using the central elevators to haul luggage and it's difficult to find your way out of the atrium. End result - about 500 people crammed into a small, hot space. Second problem: when we finally found the buffet, the room is too small for all the guests. We ended up climbing two decks with our plates to find a lounge chair to sit in. Embarkation day is always confusing, but this day was worse by far. The room in the "family harbor" was great. Slept our family of four easily. The family harbor lounge is not open 24 hours, just during certain times. However, it was nice to eat breakfast there instead of the buffet. No complaints about the room. I can't review the production shows. There weren't any. We received a letter in our room that all production shows were cancelled for the sailing. I could tell the cruise director was trying to fill spots; the shows we saw were not built for the big stage. Comedians in the lounge were ok, and did both PG and R rated shows. I did notice a distinct lack of live music. The main dining room was fine. The buffet, not so much. We saw the menu in the dining room one night and decided to hit the buffet. There were nine hot items for dinner. Nine. They were the same entrées that were in the dining room. There's also no outside seating at the buffet. There is no pool on the serenity deck. Two hot tubs, but no pool. There is a private pool for guests in the Havana suites. Saw "Aquaman" in the IMAX theater. Really comfortable. My kids loved the sports deck. Here's where it gets confusing: the staff on that ship is incredibly good at their jobs and working hard to make everyone happy. There just isn't enough of them. The ship is understaffed. I felt as if Carnival (corporate) doesn't want me at the buffet or main dining room or in the pool. They want me in the specialty restaurants, paying more for rooms with pools, nickel and diming my way through the cruise. Those areas are staffed to the detriment of the rest of the ship. In short, the staff is incredible in spite of the corporate baloney they are put through. End result: this is the first cruise on any line that I left saying "meh". I sailed on the Carnival Sensation - before it's refit - and would rather sail again on that 30 year old 2500 passenger ship than on the flagship of the line. Read Less

Hello I decided that the new carnival ship Horizon would be a great adventure for my grandaughters and I We were impressed with all aspects of the ship. Service was wonderful and all staff we so pleasant and helpful. So many activities to chose from! We utilized the hub app to plan our days and to make dinning room reservations. We never waited more than 10 minutes for a table. The new elevator worked efficiently and easily. The grandchildren love the sky ride. I enjoyed the piano bar with lady Red. There was red flag waves in cozumel which led to our excursion being cancelled. It was quick easy to book another excursion for the day. River tubing in Jamaica was a great adventure.Grand Cayman was such a safe and easy to navigate port that we spent the day shopping and walking. The cruise director was amazing as were the all ages music events each evening Truly it was the fun ship Read Less

Good food generally. Decent service. Staff friendly and attentive. Fun slides and sky ride bike. Way too many people to enjoy though. Carnival is the problem like all money hungry large corporations. They cheap out on everything taking away from what would otherwise be a pleasant experience. Cheers program won’t let you order more than one drink at a time, treating you like an infant or a crook when you want to order two glasses of wine at a time for you and your spouse without two keycards; you will have to wait 15 mins before being permitted to get the second one. $38 American per person for steak restaurant is termed a “nominal fee” after spending some $7k usd (by the time it’s all accounted for) for the trip already. Ports are mostly industrial wastelands forcing you to pay out ridiculous charges for shore excursions. Also bring earplugs: between doors slamming, balcony door whining and clicking all night because of wind and kids running late at night you have to have the drinks program to sleep. Way too many people and not enough chairs. Way too small pools. But again. Nice new ship. Nice staff. Read Less

Chose this cruise because of the ports of call from Miami - Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao and Aruba. Also because it was their newest and biggest ship. After being on 4 other Carnival cruises I have to say that I like this ship the least. The layout was just poorly designed. Basketball court directly above two restaurants (and yes it's noisy and loud). Given the size of the ship and the number of passengers everything is WAY too small (gym, pools, show theater, fun shops). The rooms were nice and the most of the service personnel were friendly. However, I would have to say that most of the bartenders that I encountered were pretty rude and unfriendly. Also, there are just not enough decks to sunbath. If you don't get up at 6:15 in the morning to reserve seats you're going to be out of luck. The atriums are very small compared to the other ships and it's more difficult to get around as many of the areas of the ship are tucked away almost secret areas. What they don't tell you is that you can eat free at many of the restaurants (Guy's BBQ, Italian place and Chinese Place) during lunch. However, you have to pay to eat there at dinner. The cruise director (Mike) was good at his job. The shows ranged from mediocre to just horrible. For the most part the food was very good everywhere on the boat. The one exception is the the fish which no one in our large group liked. It's as if it wasn't cooked all the way. We were thrilled to be on the first ever New Year's cruise on the ship but my next cruise will be on a different boat. Read Less

Much needed vacation with my daughter who was home for the holidays. I booked this cruise as a spur of the moment thing last March and did not know about this ship until I started researching it and what sold me on it was the Skyride. From the start of our cruise to the very end, we had no complaints and enjoyed ourselves tremendously and will be back for another sailing on this beautiful ship, because we did not get to see everything. From our cabin steward Novi to our waiter at dinner Marlon (asked for lemons one night for my water and had them every night after) and staff, they went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything that we needed and the ports of call where definitely an added bonus. If you get to sail on her, go with an open mind and try not to take the negative reviews to heart, form your own opinion. The elevators at times did take a while so be patient, they were not difficult to figure out at all. If you only have to go up or down a deck, take the stairs. We where on Deck 9 and we would walk up to the Lido Deck all the time We had not complaints on any of the food that we ate. I am a pescatarian and I had something to choose from daily. We did eat at two of the specialty restaurants Ji Ji's and Bonsai Teppanyaki, go with an empty stomach because you do get a LOT of food. Cruise Director Mike Pack is so full of energy and it is very infectious and always has a smile on his face and very approachable. We only did one excursion on this sailing in La Romana to Monkeyland and thoroughly enjoyed it and I would definitely do it again. Grand Turk, Curacao and Aruba are beautiful islands, but we only did the beach and some shopping in those ports. As the saying goes you can't make everyone happy, but if you go with an open mind you will definitely enjoy. Read Less
