My wife and I always cruise with Carnival because of the emphasis on comedy clubs. This one offered up to 4 shows a night. 4 comedians , two of them top notch. The new year's eve party was wonderful. The pianist at the piano bar was joined by the lead singer of the evening show and threw an unforgettable party. Service was excellent. Thete are quiet places to be, to avoid the upper decks. Check out the decks on the fifth floor. There is an adult only pool, so you dont have to be with children if they bother you. Buffet choices were superior. The dining room reservations operate through an app. Our cabin, that had ocean view window, also had two separate bathrooms, one of which had a toilette. The second had a bathtub. The only recommendation I have is that for the folks that seek the quietness of the fifth floor deck, some soft background music would be a treat. The crew were fantastic. Helpful and ultra polite. We will certainly be back, again and again. Read Less

The Good - i enjoyed the ship as a whole but there was definitely room for major improvement. The layout while nice could have been better thought out as far as color scheme is concerned. I stayed in a Havana Cabin and the shower curtain is hideous. That aside, there were ample amounts of activities scheduled throughout the day so theres never a dull moment. The ship director Mike was great and very friendly, I really did enjoy his energy. Service for the most part was great everywhere we went, especially from out room steward Calvert (9th floor), he was amazing. Contrary to popular belief, i actually enjoyed the elevator system. I felt it eliminated overcrowding and people gunning it to any open elevator making the wait worse than what it would hve been had it not been for assigned elevators. My husband and I seldom encountered any issues waiting. Entertainment - The shows were decent at best. The cast worked very hard and executed the shows nicely however there was just something missing. Some songs are not one size fit all and they definitely didnt arrange all songs accordingly amongst the singers. It was okay. But some days i found myself trying hard to make it to the end of some of the shows. The other scheduled activities outside of that, such of love and marriage, carnival quest, trivia , and comedy shows just to name a few were very entertaining and well put together . Food - the food I would say is the most disappointing on the ship. There was a limited variety of options at the lido deck and it was just not good imo. The pizza location made me sick afterward so i would suggest they make the chef use gloves at the pizza spot. Meridian wasnt any better. The options and taste were lackluster. On one occasion my waitress was rude and another girl sneezed and coughed continuously and didnt wash her hands!!!! We asked to be moved and were simply moved to a table 2 feet away. Annoyed is an understatement. We decided to just spend money on the specialty locations throughout the week. Teppanyaki was delicious, pigs and anchor was decent but nothing to write home about. And guys burger which was a free option was tasty. Excursions - we chose to do excursions through Carnival and they were all nice Grand Turk- Stingray and snorkel. This was one of the best ports. Ocean was clear and the tour guides were awesome, definitely enjoyed it here La Romana, DR- monkeyland. We had a great time here. The monkeys are well taken care of and we had ample time with them. Tour guides were great Curacao- Beach hop and swim with turtles. This was one of my least favorites, the water was murky and they threw fish remains in the water to attract turtles. Swimming through fish carcas was disgusting to say the least. Aruba- Natural pool and 4x4 Jeep safari. Fun and very bumpy , the natural pool while nice was too crowded and felt like i was swimming in pee with how overly warm it was and the overcrowding. I was a bit repulsed by that too and spent limited time in the water. (Just bein honest) Cabin - we had an aft Havana balcony. Very nice view. But for whatever reason there was a constant smell of cigarette smoke int he hallway. Someone must have been smoking in there room and it was annoying. Carnival should have installed soft close balcony and front doors because the slamming all day and night was crazy. Idk how they did it for the toilets but not those heavy doors lol. My room steward Calvert like I previously mentioned was amazing and very accommodating . The beds were uncomfortable unfortunately All in all it was a decent ship. Despite there being 5000 onboard including staff i never felt overly packed in except for coming back on board from each port. Read Less

This is not a new topic. I just want to write about what I was feeling. I just came off the Carnival Horizon Oct 5-13. There were many things that took place during this time. First I miss my flight with Southwest and had to find another flight. AA wanted to charge us 1300 for 2 people one way that is not including baggage. WE found a nonstop flight with Delta that would get us there in time to get on the boat. Thanks Delta. We finally get to the boat at 1:55 to find out that the people that normally take our luggage doesn't take luggage after 2.. So my husband and I had to carry our own luggage through security. I put my back pack on the conveyor belt and left it when I walked off. As I was going to get on the escalator my luggage was too heavy for me and my luggage tumble to the ground, my shoe went the other way. Security came to help. When I reach the top of the escalator I realize my back pack was left and my hubby realize that he had lost the slip that security gave him. I went back to get my back pack to find that the security officer had my back pack in the lost and found but then he tried to come on to me. I retrieve my back pack from him. I left to join the Mr then he had to go back to get the slip that he lost so we could continue through security. Once we get to the next security he lost the slip again after searching he found the slip stuck to the back of his cell phone. After this I told my husband lets go back in prayer again so we prayed. After all this we were glad to be on the Carnival Horizon. While on the ship for the week a lot of unfortunately things took place. MY husband met a couple on the 11 deck and later we found out that her husband was taken off the ship because he had died. Also a fight broke out that included about 25 people and they were put off the ship in Curaco. I didn't see the fight. But I did see a little boy got burn with hot chocolate and on the first floor I witness two young boys in handcuff laying face down on the floor screaming "I am going to sue yall." I met a mother that daughter left her medication and she share with me that her daughter had to pay the doctor 100 to see him and pay 100 for the shot that she needed every day. I shared all of this to say After all I been through I still have my joy!!! And after all the mistake mishap having COOKIE as our cruise director made it all right. COOKIE you were AMAZING. MY cruise would not have been a success if it weren't for you, not only are you amazing you are AWESOME. Carnival should allow you to TRAIN ALL the cruise director on all the Carnival fleet except for MATT. YOU & MATT is a force to be reckon with. Canival please pay attention to your Customer. WE Need people like Cookie & Matt that are gifted for this job as a CD. . Who wants a boring CD. NOT me. I will go on a cruise just because MAtt & Cookie is there please take heave. Someone please show this to Cookie & Matt. I want them to know how VAUABLE they are. Read Less

This ship was beautiful, decor, clean, several restaurant, all great. The staff, crew and service was top notch. Food was great everywhere we ate. The elevator system on the other hand is nightmare. If you push the button like 10 times it thinks there's more people so it comes quicker. But overall the engineer that designed that system needs a new job! Our cabin was an ocean view and very comfortable. The entertainment was great...and our cruise director Mike was awesome! Go to the Quest...it's late night, but ton's of fun. If you are easily offended not a good choice, but if you like to have some adult fun...take advantage of this event. Visit the wonderful IMAX Theater, they have a great selection of movies, a variety of show times and super nice theater. Also take advantage of the ships two floors of shops. I found several good deals with great choices. Read Less

I commend the Cruise Director, entertainment staff and Playlist Productions on a wonderful experience. The Celestial Strings was by far the best production i've seen on any ship. This was quite a stunning performance and the team is very talented. The Cruise Director Mike is so entertaining and has so much energy and really knows how to pump up the crowd and include everyone. He was EVERYWHERE ensuring fun! Our family loved him. The dining room staff was upbeat and they had a few really good dancers surprisingly. The food was average and I recommend ordering from the Grill. There were several dishes I had to send back, but overall we were satisfied. The salmon was amazing and the lobster was very good! The buffet could use some healthier options and wish it was open after long port stays when pizza or burgers were the only options....i love guy's burgers but really dont want to live off them for days. I would like more fruit and green options as well for breakfast. Would be nice to have more than one cook on omelette station. The bar service was great and so was the pool service. Rarely had to wait for drinks. They were really on top of it. I had a balcony room, 7223 and our cabin steward was Arnell. He was by far the best i've had on over 10 cruises. The room was spotless and we always had fresh pool and bath towels. We were so impressed. I tend to do my own things for excursions and rented a jeep in Grand turk. This was such a great option for us as we got to go offroad to a few "off the beaten places" and felt completely safe on this island. Love this island and the snorkling here is topnotch. We rented a van in Aruba with another family and again, this was a great way to see the island and go at our pace. We took taxi in LaRamona to the beach which was 25 mins away. There were many "sales" people every 2 minutes trying to sell stuff but the service for chairs/food was nice. The beach was clean but we were not impressed with this port and would not want to return. No areas to walk too and many people didnt feel safe as there have been many issues in the country for tourists recently. Curacao was beautiful and we taxi'd to Mambo beach in the afternoon and enjoyed walking the city for shopping in the morning. Read Less

Horizon is just amazing from the mike the director to the fun squad I loved every minuet. We also did the carnival quest which is led by mike and so much freaking fun! I am completely hooked on cruising it’s the best! The lido deck I think could of done better food wise but it was horrible. The captains night dinner was ok as well. We chose the Horizon for the itinerary since we had not traveled to these ports- Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao and Aruba. Each port had it's own special things- Grand Turk, the beach, Jack's Shack and Margaritaville, La Romana, the diverse souvenirs you could get there and the friendliness of the people, Curacao with its beautiful buildings and architecture. Also the good local beer and the wonderful gouda cheese., finally Aruba with its wonderful Catamaran sail. The great views, rum punch, music and people. Now we get to the ship. It was beautiful! The restaurants were wonderful, especially the Steakhouse. I Can't say enough about the bars and he service. Our cruise director, Schwartz was beyond wonderful, such energy! We went nightly to the Havana Bar for the music and dancing. The comedians were fabulous and the shows- WOW! Especially Amor Cubano. Strongly recommend Carnival and especially Horizon- Bravo to the staff! Read Less

This was our 5th Carnival cruise, and our third to the Southern Caribbean in January. We choose this itinerary because the weather is always 80 degrees or above in this part of the world during this month, so "Fun In The Sun" is guaranteed regardless of where you are coming from! Now to the ship. The Horizon is beautiful and well thought out in its design. The transformation of the LIDO deck buffet from the single line concept, to multiple serving areas made for less congestion, and quicker service. My family and I were able to walk up, grab a plate and our food, and immediately sit down for a meal. BRAVO Carnival! We also found plenty of seating available, which made for short meal times allowing us to get back to the fun! The staff in the LIDO buffet were excellent by greeting everyone, clearing tables quickly and even walking around offering to gather more drinks, or desserts. I also enjoyed the speciality restaurants, including Bonsai Sushi and Pig & Anchor. Both are excellent with the full Pig & Anchor restaurant on board offering those amazing Greens and Barbeque at anytime a plus. You can also eat for free on Sea Days for lunch. Normally, my family and I are not MDR folks, because we travel for work often, and are not looking to sit down in a restaurant for a meal for a long period of time. The Horizon is the exception. We had breakfast several times, being served by the wonderful Harlene and Tomina, and used the Carnival app. to reserve a table for dinner, where I had the grilled lobster, which melted in my mouth. Including Pizza, Guy's Burger, Blue Iguana, and other food locations, Carnival provides a meal option for all cruisers on board. The cabins are also one of the reasons why I sail Carnival. If available, I would definitely book a Havana suite. But, I have a beautiful five year old daughter who comes along, so I have to go with another option. Must be 12 years or older to book a Havana room. Here's a tip, the hot tubs and pool in the Havana are open to everyone after 7 pm, so head on down for a virtually private bar, romantic getaway, or family fun time. Carnival handles other customers by offering Family Harbor Suites with a private fun area, and other excellent options. I could afford a balcony, suite, etc., but being the cost conscience guy I am, I always book us in a QUIET, Deluxe Ocean View Suite, located forward of the ship. Why? It has two bathrooms with one being a full , and the other a half. If you are a husband with a wife or daughter, no need to further explain why this is important. Secondly, the square footage of these rooms is 230 square feet, with none of that space being used by a balcony. A definite plus for us. Being a regular cruiser, I am also aware the Family Harbor suites are near the Aft of the ship, and below the galley. It can be very noisy so be careful in where you book here! Our room was clean, comfortable, and our Steward Suli was excellent. There when you needed him, and disappeared leaving you to enjoy your cruise at other times. Entertainment wise, Carnival has it all. We normally don't go to the shows, but speaking to other passengers these were excellent. The Southern Caribbean itinerary is one of the best at sea, which includes Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao, and Aruba. Don't be afraid to explore La Romana, we hired a driver for $25 per person and explored the entire city. Just be prepared to say NO to some aggressive vendors along the way. The other ports are quiet, beautiful, and can be enjoyed by walking if you choose. Both embarking and disembarkation were painless and efficient. We always leave our rental car at the Miami International Airport, check in at the Carnival Kiosks located near the baggage claim areas, then the entire family rides in a taxi to the port for a flat fee of $27. Yes, I said $27! Compare this to taking the carnival shuttle, or other travel options where you have to wait for the bus, ride with a larger group, etc. $27 is the authorized fee for taxi service to the port in Miami, and being Florida residents, by driving down in a rental and picking one up at the airport after the cruise, we save a ton of money on both travel costs and parking. Also, by checking in at the Kiosk, you are allowed to go directly to the Security Line at the port and walk right onto the ship during your assigned time. No need to pay for Faster to the Fun and and no waiting in lines at the port! We still travel to Miami and spend the night before our cruise in a hotel to avoid any last minute hick-ups. Highly recommend Carnival, and enjoy your cruise with them! Read Less

Carnival Horizon 11-17-2018 8 day-Southern Caribbean out of Miami, FL. Ultra-Premiere Casino Cruise. Room 11219, Interior Spa Stateroom, 4S Overall Rating of The Cruise 9 out of 10. Embarkation: It was a good surprise to arrive at 11:15 AM and be onboard by 11:45 AM carrying our boarding pass. Embarkation 5 of 5 State Room 11219, Interior Spa Stateroom: Steward Eko had the room ready when we boarded. I highly recommend Eko and his team. This cabin is located 1 deck below the Spa. 1st order of business was to take a tour of the spa and amenities we received for having our fist spa room. Access to the Thalassotherapy pool, hot beds, sauna, steam room and other amenities was easy with our room key. The robe in our room was lots more comfortable than the ones you get in other rooms. Soaps, shampoo were definitely an upgrade. Access to the Spa area was easy either forward to the stairs or just use the main elevators. The Thalassotherapy pool was almost useless, shallow, seats shape was wrong and difficult to get in and out. The rest of the Spa amenities was very good and ready for use. Assigned Seating Reflection Lower, 6:00 PM, table 162. Team Head Waiter Paul Rodrigues, Team Waiter Onur Gvres and AssistantTeam Waiter Komang Gede, did their best to make the dining experience as pleasurable as they could. DW and I both noticed changes to the menu and I think it is better than previous cruises. Love the décor of the Dining room with the separation walls making it more intimate dining experience. On one occasion I ordered a stake from the steak house. For some reason they were very late bring our meal, but when it did arrive it was so tough that the steak knife would not cut it. Not acceptable! in fact I had them return it and start again. Now we are really late, DW was thru eating and most of the others in the dining area had already left before I received my second steak. Spoke to Matri d’ and let him know my dissatisfaction. Do not blame the food service staff but the Steak House needs to work on quality and timing. Casino: Can’t explain how well Carlos and Karol along with the rest of the team did on this Ultra Primer Casino Cruise. The games, prizes and staff interaction were nothing but 1st class. For some reason there is always one Bar Waiter who stands out and this cruise was no exception. Yoki was always at work, always calling us by name and always happy “5 star”. Why “NO” nonsmoking machines in the casino? Cruise Director: Mike Pack, lived up to everything I have heard. This was one of the best sail-away parties. When it come to a harry chest contest Mike made me laugh nonstop for the entire time. Will rate it “the best” I have ever witnessed. Mike took the time and spoke with DW and I numerous occasions while on this 8-day cruise. Misc. Cruise Particulars: Elevators on the Horizon are new but I liked them. When we arrived, some people would just jump in to find that did not know where it would stop and no way to select a floor. After the second day everyone seemed to understand how it worked and I believe it went smother and faster than elevators on other ships. The Pig and Anchor brewery is fantastic. Laundry is a great perk of being Diamond or Platinum and those who work below deck to support that effort deserve a pat on the back. “Thanks, Sholihin, and I Nengah Budasa”. Carnival needs to work on location of the hand sanitizers. Serenity spa water cold and pumps not working. Skybike was not functioning the entire cruise. Read Less

This is yet another Thanksgiving Cruise we've taken and it's nice to see how the crew will decorate for the holiday. We were 2 adults and two children under 10 in an inside cabin. We traveled with family in a balcony cabin. I'm probably used to inside cabins but aside from the balcony, the usable interior space found in the balcony seemed quite comparable. We flew in the night before and stayed at a local FLL hotel before taking our pre-arranged shuttle to PortMiami. We received an email from Carnival saying that boarding would be delayed by an hour and not to arrive until then. I did switch out my shuttle reservation for the later time but they called that morning saying there were a lot of delays from others and that if we wanted to leave a half hour earlier than the new time I chose, we could. We took them up on it since they were saying it could further delay if we waited. We got to the port just after the time that was originally selected on the Carnival.com site during online check in. Check in was a breeze and so was security. We sat around waiting for our number to be called for about 15 minutes and were finally onboard just after 12pm. We signed up for communication package through the Carnival Hub App for $5 pp. On iPhone, you need to keep it open in the background in order to receive the text message through the app. A battery drain for those that use iPhone. We had a great steward Mauricio. He was able to sneak in and out of the room to tidy up during some short stints out of the cabin. I found it odd that the towel animals were done during the morning cabin tidy rather than the turn down service. The Your Time Dining option was really poorly run. Someone from your party will need to go to Deck 5 JavaBlue Cafe in order to let them know you were ready for dinner and then go down to deck 3 to be seated. No one mentioned that you can do it in the app until after we switched to a 5:30pm dining time. That's all we really wanted to begin with. We were then lucky enough to be waited on my Olimpiu from Romania. The nicest guy you will meet and full of great stories and experiences. His whole Team was quite helpful and had enough attentiveness to feel like you weren't neglected or waiting too long for anything. Even repeat entrees or replacement entrees were brought up quickly. Food tasted great and at the right temperature. I wish they had more Indian food to offer. There was one vegetarian option that stayed all week in the MDR but absolutely NOTHING in the buffet at all. Generally, lunch in the Lido buffet was the disappointment. There was one section of the buffet open and in each of the four corners was the same 7 or 8 items. On other lines I've sailed, the lunch buffet would have a number of different cuisines and variety for each. The alternative was to eat at the pasta bar, Mongolian wok, Guy's burger, Pig and Anchor. I know, I know... the horror of eating at those places. But it would be nice not to have to wait for a table at the first two, or in a line for the last two. Pig & Anchor didn't disappoint on sea day lunches. A little fatty with the brisket but so tasty. Guy's burgers was/is my favorite and I was looking forward to them as soon as I booked the cruise. Pizza was great!! Enough said. Desserts could have been better. Ice cream was plentiful so that filled the gap. Guest Services would take folks standing in the Platinum Diamond line first but when they realized the people were not either status, or, they were standing beside a friend that was that status, they continued to serve them. Another cruise where the Sky Ride wasn't working. Apparently there was a short period of time where there were two workers in there looking at the bikes. Though it still wasn't fixed for our sailing. Apparently, it was probably a better use of your time to just go to the gym rather than wait in line for the Sky Ride. They did have Sky Fitness for some basic elliptical, hip, walker, pull ups, abs and triceps exercises. I thought it was better than even going to the gym since when can you say you were working out on the deck sailing on the seas. My kids who were in the penguin and sting ray groups seemed to have enjoyed themselves the 3 or 4 times they did go to Camp Ocean. I can't comment much beyond that. Ports of call in order: Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao, Aruba. We did not take any ship sponsored excursions. The first two were new for us and the last two were return trips from a cruise 17 years earlier. I go into these ports oblivious to what to expect. Grand Turk was great. We are not beach people but still stayed on the island for 2-3 hours and had fun swimming by the beach as well as in the large, expansive pool in the back. La Romana was more of a walk around and back to the ship. We took an open air bus ride around Curacao for $20/adult. We got into Curacao after 1:30pm and by the time the tour dropped folks off at the beach, it was closer to dusk. We went back to town and walked along the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge at night and there were nice lights to look at as well as a tall Christmas tree at the other end as well. We took a similar tour as Curacao in Aruba but in an AC van. Great driver and tour of the area. Apparently Eagle beach is the place to go for all you beach lovers. Entertainment times were odd. There were many shows that only ran once an evening. So if you missed it, that was it. No 7:30pm or 9:30pm showings. Comedy in the Limelight was great. We had two comics leave mid cruise and replaced with two others which weren't as great. Disembarkation We had an early flight out of MIA. 11am. So we did the Express Disembarkation program they offered. This has been far and away the most efficient and well run disembark I have ever had in 20 cruises. We were told to meet in Liquid Lounge by 7am. By the time we were there a few minutes after 7, they were already calling decks to leave at the starboard side entrance to disembark the ship. They have a Global Entry line in the terminal but if you're off that early, it seemed that the regular line was SLIGHTLY quicker since there were more officers vs the 1 Global Entry officer. This line works for those that carry Nexus as well. Random observations The ship seemed "older" than it really was. There were some stalls in the restrooms that you would need to pull extremely hard in order to close. Then you feel like you can't get out afterwards. This is the men's room near the Blue Iguana. There was no push to sanitize your hands before entering the buffet or MDRs. I like the fact that they're not announcing that bingo is about to start each and every day. Read Less

NCL has you beat by 10 times. I know I need to lose a few pounds , but variety is the spice that makes me come back. The ports were great with four new to me adventures. I must say, this was my first cruise and all around it was AMAZING. Everyday, every moment, every seconds I loved it. But what also made my 8 days at sea so wonderful is the amazing staff I came in contact with. First these to amazing people Francisco and Thal in house keeping, always remember there pleasant and genuine smile in the mornings and evening. I should know because I LOVE people and these two they have a very gentleness and pleasant spirit towards them. I pray a special blessing upon them and their family. They were very kind. Next in Pixels is Sinisa (Serbia). He is very pleasant and does an amazing job at what he does in Pixel. He complements a girl's picture when he is in it. Must I also say, he is GORGEOUS. Just a bonus and glad he was on this ship. Now a sets of amazing waiters, Adi, William (Colombia), Esther or queen Esther (India), Edi (Indonesia) and James ( St. Vincent).... These crew made my Church sisters and I laugh so hard and was a great pleasure having them as our waiters. They made dinner in the evenings exciting and with a lot of laughter. I do pray they keep that excitement in them because they help made my first cruise very exciting and a great experience. And to top is off, Mike the cruise director, HE WAS AWESOME and FUNNY. Whatever he does he makes it very exciting and gets the crowd involved in fun and excitment. From start to finish was amazing getting on the ship was all pure excitement for me but leaving I wasn't ready. I am sure there are plenty more wonderful people on board like the few I mentioned, but I must say GREAT STAFF you have Carnival Horizon. Thanks to you and your staff especially the ones I mentioned for making my first experience a memorable one. Read Less
