Horizon was great! Our handicap room, 10205, was excellent. The room was very large, and I could use the scooter everywhere. Even though it is listed as an interior room, the room has an slightly obstructive ocean view size window, and a great view. All the staff were fantastic when dealing with handicap people... from the people helping to board, to the time we left! I was thrilled about that, as I had concerns before the cruise. The only MAJOR problem on the cruise was all the smoke in the casino!! People were having to leave the area allot just to get a breath of fresh air! I had a bad cough after 3 days, and it took me over a week and a half after the cruise to clear up. Other than that, great cruise! The food in the buffet was just okay, definitely not allot of write home about. The specialty restaurants were great!! Read Less

We just returned from our Spring Break cruise on the Horizon. We wanted to try a Vista Class ship. So far, we have taken 8 cruises with Horizon. Below are the Cheers and Jeers: Cheers Had a Havana Suite. The added balcony room is a treat. The room was very quiet. Exceptional service from the room steward. Got to see the Dr. Seuss Activity in action. The children were enjoying themselves. Shows were good. The singers apparently were rehearsing and we were treated to one song in the atrium (third floor on the steps). Could have listened to them sing all day. The app is nice. We always get good service from the agents when booking by phone. More efforts toward sustainability - pencil instead of a pen, fewer paper handouts each day, straws by request. Cake Buffet had a different, delicious selection each day. Internet connectivity is much better. All you trivia cheaters will love it. Jeers We ordered the Cheers pass knowing that at best, we would break-even. Never again! Carnival has cut staff and it is especially felt in this area. Wait staff rarely come around so we had to go to the ONE bar that was open on the Lido Deck on port days. That bar was two deep so the wait was considerable. For most bars, there was only one bartender even on sea days. Think carefully about ordering the Cheers Pass if you have not been on a cruise recently. It just isn't worth it. (We tip in cash with every drink that is served to us so it is not us, it is them). Carnival needs to revamp the drink menu. Same boring drinks and them seem to be more sugary sweet. We went to Guest Services immediately upon arriving because we wanted to send a gift to someone on another ship. There was one person to handle us lowly cubic-zirconia level members. Diamond and Platinum have their own line. The person that was being helped was not accepting whatever the guest service agent was explaining. I waited for 15 minutes before I asked them to summons another agent. By now, the line had grown to the elevators. I asked the Diamond agent if she could get someone else to help. No one was in her line. "Well, I will go ahead and help you," she said sarcastically. She wasn't pleased to do so. She gave us incorrect information. We ended up calling the 800# on the Carnival website. We found ourselves at guest services twice. Both times, went away feeling like we were at the DMV. They had the warmth of a TSA agent. Main Dining Room - No, we were not able to check-in for ATD on the app. Instead, we had to go to level 5 where we were rerouted to level 3. Why can't we just go to level 3 in the first place? We ate in the MDR on first night. Food/service was good. Again, getting a drink takes awhile. On Elegant Night, we went to the MDR again. This time, we were seated in a dark corridor by the kitchen door/kitchen elevator. It was so dark that it made it difficult to read the menu. We wanted to see the show, so we asked to be seated somewhere else. The waiter spoke to someone and came back and removed the silverware from the table for the other two no-shows and left us there. We didn't return to the MDR for the rest of the cruise. While we enjoyed the Havana Suite, the patio chairs are very uncomfortable. They are low to the ground and are appropriate for a preschooler. The short lounge chair has a back that does not adjust. It is too low to look at sea or to read. Whoever purchased that chair should have to sit in it for a week. TV channels are limited. There is one news channel: CBSN which doesn't cover much. From there, TCM, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, Discovery, and a few cartoon channels. To make up from this cost-saving mistake, you get a selection of Pay Per View movie channels. Many are free but they are so bad that you cannot even watch half of it without turning it off. Liquid Lounge Layout - get to the shows early. The Horizon has more passengers but it does not have more room for the Liquid Lounge or Limelight Room. Do not select a seat with a free-standing chair close to the stage. The performers use platforms in this area which means that you will miss some of the performance. Elevators - the destination dispatch elevators increases the wait time. You have no idea where the elevator you have been assigned is at in the hoist way because there are no position indicators letting you know if the elevator is coming or is being held up at another floor. Most floors do not have TV screens showing which elevator has been summoned to which floor to allow you to get on should the door open. There is no longer a PreSale Agent on board stating staff cuts. Carnival really needs to staff this position! Part of enjoying this cruise is booking the next one while on board. Read Less

First the great. Embarkation was a breeze. We (my wife, daughter and her companion) arrived at our allotted time and we were on the ship within 10-15 minutes. It was the best embarkation experience of our 19 cruises. Great job on this! The food was also great! My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find that this ship had such an array of dining selections and the quality of the food. The main dining room was our choice for 3 of the 8 nights, and all meals were terrific. We ate at the steakhouse twice and the Italian restaurant once, both were very good. Our daughter also ate at the Asian restaurant and loved it. For breakfast my wife and I ate in the dining all but one day and found it quiet and with wonderful service and food. The wait staff remembered our names after the first day. For lunches we experimented with Guys and the buffet. All very good. Our cabin (7305) was a Grand Suite. It was very nice. The balconies on these cabins are very narrow but still nice to have. The service from Agus was top notch. Now the not-so-great. We paid over $400 to get the Thermal Suite. If you are looking for peace and relaxation, do NOT get this. Passengers are rude, noisy, and do not care about anyone but themselves and the staff does nothing to stop it. We also got 5 spa treatments while on board. Most were very good, but the upsell effort was a little too aggressive. Finally, the worst experience we have ever had on a ship was getting off this one. We were supposed to have "expedited" privileges but it was a nightmare. We had our bags checked the night before and waited over 90 minutes to get them the next morning. We missed our flight and had to rebook at our cost. My advice, if you go on this shop and have a flight before 11:30 a.m., do not check your bags. Nobody could seem to help us...we were on our own. Everyone just shrugged their shoulders. I know this is a family ship in the "value" category, so we got what we signed up for. But we probably will not be going back to Carnival even if we are taking our daughter. It's too noisy, too much partying, and that disembarkation experience did it for us. I guess we have officially become old fogies. Read Less

Wanted to cruise on a newer ship. We had sailed the itinerary before. The Horizon is a very neat and clean ship, because it is new. However, I did not find it to be much different than the Carnival Dream. We stayed in a cloud spa balcony room. There were a few perks, but we didn’t feel they were worth the extra cost. We bought several spa sessions, couples massage, facial, double close shave and stone massage. Be very careful and check your bill, they double and over charged us on every service. The elevators are very difficult for most people to use. You can’t just hop on any elevator and you want. You have to enter the floor you wish to go to and then go to the assigned elevator it gives you. We spent a lot of time waiting on elevators. The buffet on Lido deck was horrible. The food choices were limited and not very good. If you have been on one carnival cruise you have been on them all. We like Carnival, but did not see any difference in this ship than some of the others. The decor was very bland and insignificant compared to other ships we have been on. It is mostly just decorated with photos. Read Less

This is not our first rodeo with Carnival. We keep telling ourselves that "it will get better." That is why we decided to book a spring break cruise on their newest and largest ship: the Horizon. Now we can honestly say that the bigger the ship, the worse the service and amenities get. I do have to say that with a ship of this size and about 4,500 fellow passengers, I thought we would have felt somewhat crowded, but honestly we did not. There was never an issue finding a chair by the pool, a wait for a table in the dining room, waiting for service at the bar, etc. The pools were not crowded and activities still felt intimate. The only time you realized how many people were actually sailing with you was when the deck parties happened. Carnival if known for FUN and they did not disappoint in this area. If you are unable to find something to do on a Carnival ship then you are NOT on a Carnival ship. The most memorable part of this cruise and what will probably keep making me come back to the brand is the FUN concept. Our cruise director on this sailing was Schwartz and he was AMAZING!!!! Carnival picked a winner when they brought him on board. Our room was your typical balcony stateroom. The only complaint I had with the room itself is that your key card is what turns on the power in the room. This is fine, but I was quick to realize that when I left the room, all power went out. Nothing could charge, including my phone, camera, etc. while I was gone because I took my key with me. The second complaint is that there is no power outlet next to the bed, but we made do. Ohhh... and the beds must have changed. They were not comfortable at all and you could feel the seam. I don't know if Carnival intended to skimp on the stateroom service, but they did skimp indeed. Granted, we did sleep in until 10 or 11 every day and maybe this is the reason, but our room was only serviced once a day if we were lucky. A few times, not at all. We had to call for towels and toilet paper. Also, I had to call room service for ice after 10:00pm and was charged. However, when our room WAS serviced, an outstanding job was done. Lets talk food... Your best bet is the "for fee" dining. We were only able to eat at the Italian place and the Sushi place because of availability, but neither disappointed. Actually, it was some of the best sushi I have ever had; anywhere. The Main dining room had the same outstanding service and the food was good and nothing was wrong with it, but it just wasn't memorable. I don't care for barbecue so my review of the Pig and Anchor wouldn't be a fair one. Both Guy's burgers and the Taco place are outstanding. If you are able to get a table for lunch for either Ji Ji's or the Italian place, do so. It's free. Some really great looking salads came from the Serinity pool deck for lunch too. Beware of the Lido Buffet for any meal. It is disgusting and there is no variety for any meal. What you have on day one will be what you have days two through eight. The only good item here is the made to order omelets in the morning that you have to wait a hour for because they have one crew member preparing them for 2,000 people. The pizza place is mediocre and you will stand I line here for approximately 30 minutes for 2 slices of pizza. Up to an hour after 11:00pm. Room service, although delicious, is a joke. Everything is ala carte. This can add up. Other lines charge you a flat rate which is acceptable, but Carnival has you reaching deep into your pockets if you don't wait in the hour line for those 2 slices of bland pizza. All of the shows were amazing. The even premiered a brand new show on our sailing and it was a treat. The layout of the auditorium, however, is that of a very poor design. Get there early to get a seat on the main floor, close to the stage, with no pillar. Pools were great. More whirlpools/hot tubs needed. Waterpark was a favorite with the kiddos. All other outdoor activities kept everyone busy during the day. Though my son was upset that they closed the basketball courts during dinner hours. No complaints with the kids clubs. Spa was wonderful. Shops could have carried a few more personal items and apparel. Elevators, though aggravating at first, made perfect sense after a few days. All in all it was a pretty good cruise. I think I like Carnivals smaller ships better. This big ship was, well, Forgettable in some ways. For me anyway. You may think different. Read Less

Good Eastern 8 day trip itinerary , Great ports with off setting departure times . Ship was in Great Shape and crew/staff were terrific ,warm and friendly. Dinning was ok/good with no major flaw's, main dinning was accomplish in less than an hour and a half . Buffet items were also ok and with the amount of passengers that ship ship holds, items seemed fresh and not picked over Wife and I attended 2 shows and found them good, Vintage Pop and Soulbound which was our favorite the best , interaction with the players and audience make the show even better , don't want to spoil it but get there earlier for added extra's We do have issue's with what Carnival Horizon has done with the theater and seating thou, depending on where you are seated the view from the 2nd level is limited to viewing the main level as now there are no more fixed row seating on the first level and the show has extended from the stage onto the main level area . So some of the acting is out of view with the current new design if you are seated on the 2nd level . Show last about a half hour Comedy show's where just ok as we did see all comedies that week both their PG and R rated versions . there were 4 total comedies on our cruise 4900 passengers this week with spring break and didn't find the lines terrible... 5-10 mins before a show and seating was pretty easy Up-Charge restaurants were good as usual We did Pig and anchor with live entertainment while dinning , J.J's Asian and Bonsai Teppanyaki with the chief show very funny as he prepared our meal . We also had reservation set for the Steakhouse and when they called to confirm our reservation they informed us that since it was formal night dress shorts would not be allowed but jeans were ok ? As we have always done formal night's on our previous cruises we decided to pass on this cruise and just be lazy and on vacation, we did find this to be very disappointing as we both were looking forward to the Steak house as we have dine there on several other cruises and they are normally very good and worth the charge and did have jeans also but as they made it an unannounced stipulation to dine prior to our reservation made 6 months earlier that just annoyed us as we were the patrons paying additional for this restaurant . so a tip , make sure that its not a formal night when you make your reservation, as this was the first time we encounter an issue if your not planning on bring formal wear. Casinos seem to be paying with several witnessed good jack pot pay outs also speaking with several people thru out the cruise said the tables were friendly also . So go have a great time if your planning a Horizon trip and don't let the small stuff bother you, as we found on this trip there weren't many at all !!! Good Sailing ! Read Less

We have cruise several Royal Caribbean ships, and were looking for a change so thought we'd try the newest Carnival ship, the Horizon. She is a beautiful ship with all sorts of great options for fun. From their thermal spa to the Skybikes and Skycourse we tried it all. We chose a spa balcony room on deck 11, which was a perfect location for us since we used the spa, the running track and pool areas often. The buffet did not have as many choices as we're used to, but there were a large number of free food choices available for breakfast and lunch around the pool deck also. My favorite was the Blue Iguana breakfast burritos. The pizza was great too! The staff was great, the comedians were hysterical, shows were a bit artsy for me but were ok, and the cruise Director Schwartz was amazing! His energy was infectious! Only thing I didn't love was the casino smelled terrible, like stale cigars or something. And since deck 3 didn't go through we usually had to walk through casino to get to dining room. Read Less

We are platinum members on NCL. We thought we would give Carnival a try. Embarkation was a breeze! From cruise port door to lunch in less than 45 minutes. Great job on that. Our spa balcony stateroom was lovely, nice colors, plenty of space, comfortable. Our cabin Steward, Alfredo was top notch, friendly, always around and just a very nice young man. We thank him for being so attentive. Most common areas are ok to look at nothing that elegant or fabulous. People go crazy over the elevators but we found it very efficient, our cabin was on the top of the ship, we had no trouble with the elevators. The thing that made this cruise was the Cruise Director, Schwartz! He was really terrific and made the events quite fun. There were so many things we enjoyed in the area of entertainment, this is another thing Carnival does really well. The movies on the deck were quite enjoyable as well. Nice touch offering blankets! We enjoy the spa on any of the ships we have been on so we booked the spa balcony. The first day the staff was oh so nice after that wow they got crankier and crankier. The spa itself is very disappointing, the thermal pool is pretty tiny and can't fit more than 6 people. They do have the wondrous stone loungers but if you are not able to get one, well there's no place for your to relax and you have to leave if you have done the steam and sauna etc. The locker room was adequate. We booked the Italian restaurant and the Steak House for specialty dining, but also went to Pig and Anchor one night. The Italian restaurant was terrible. Food was cold and quite underdone, we left most of it, the Steak House served a great meal and is worth the cost. Pig and Anchor...oh my! Lunch there was pretty awful as well. Does Guy Fieri follow up on his namesake? If he did he would find out that this place is butchering his name, the food was barely edible. Most of it tasted like reheated frozen food. So that left the main dining room and buffet, both served pretty miserable foods any time we tried dinner there. Breakfast was ok, not much on flavor or variety. Trying to get an omelette at the buffet was a long long wait. The Gelato at lunch time was delicious! Cakes we pretty and mostly not very tasty. I will give good words to the Pizza place, Blue Iguana and the Guy's Burger place, all three served pretty good foods. We are still reeling from some stomach ailment we got on board, not sure what it was. The adult area, Serenity was nice but getting a chair is virtually impossible unless you go up at 6 am. Wow! It was always hard to find a place to sit, you end up milling around until you stalk someone leaving. Perhaps Carnival can convert this area or part of it to a limited access pay for area with guaranteed seating. I'd pay for that! Casino was smoky and pretty smelly, we stopped in for a brief few minutes once or twice. Getting off the ship and back on at the ports was also very easy and quick, I give Carnival great praise for people moving overall. We did our own excursions so I can't speak for ship excursions. We went to Bohio Dive Resort in Grand Turk, walked all around San Juan and had dinner at Vaca Brava, went to the Marriot St. Kitts on a day pass, and the most fun excursion was Billy Bones Cigarette Boat All Day Excursion, it included snorkeling, beaching, lunch, airport beach and more swimming/snorkeling. Lots of fun! There are a lot of things this ship does well, there are things that this ship does not do well. If a nice dining experience is important to you, I would not recommend this ship. I can't speak for all Carnival ships just this one. Overall, I give high praise to Embarkation and Debarkation, Cabins, Cruise Director, Room Steward, Steak House and Casual Lunch at Pizzeria, Blue Iguana and Guy's Burger. We unfortunately will not try another Carnival Cruise. Read Less

We took this cruise with 5 other couples and we all had a great time. Early and late seating was full when we booked and we were afraid that we wouldn't get to sit together at Anytime Seating but we were able to get a table for 12 and we were able to keep that table each night at the same time. That worked out well. We all thought the food was great--don't know how anybody can complain about the food with all the choices that are available. We were impressed with all the various seating areas you could eat at the Market Place Buffet on the Horizon. We never had a problem finding a seat even at peak eating times. The 2 aroma steam rooms in the thermal suite were great. Most of the steam rooms in most of the ships we have been on are not hot enough but these were nice and hot like they should be. The comedians were very good. The juggler that we have seen before was very good. The dancing shows in the Liquid Lounge were quite an extravaganza but we are sort of getting tired of the dancing and singing at the top of their voice (it sometimes just seems like a lot of yelling that you can't understand). Embarkation and debarkation were a breeze--the best we have experienced in the 19 cruises we have taken. The water slide and sky ride were exciting. We were surprised at how many ships were at each port. 7 ships were at St Martin and 3 of those were the individual cruise companies largest ships. However, the port seemed to absorb the 24,000 people pretty well. Seems like most of the ships leave and return on the week end and not sure why they do that. Would like to see some of them leave in the middle of the week and maybe that would alleviate some congestion at the airport, motels, and ports. Read Less

Good: The ship has so many nooks and crannies and places to get away, there was always a way to party or take it easy. Loved the skyride and my kids loved the theater and the water slide/ ropes course/ sports complex. As far as bars go, we Adored Pig and Anchor enjoyed the presentation at the alchemy bar and had fun at the comedy club and ocean plaza bar. The service was outstanding everywhere, except maybe the red frog rum bar, but they are busy ALWAYS. Ivana makes the best bloody marys at Pig and Anchor, Marvin was our room steward and he did a great job of taking care of us. Ollie was our waiter in the dining room and he was always going above and beyond for our big group of 11. Schwartz was the best cruise director I've had on a ship, he made the parties great. Sea day brunch, guys burgers, blue iguana cantina were great. We stayed in the family harbor area and loved our room and the lounge was really helpful, especially on port days for eating breakfast or having a small lunch when it was late, and awesome that we didn't have to go to lido on debarkation for lunch. My kids also loved all the free movies. The ship was also very smooth. Lastly, it was the smoothest embarkation and debarkation ever. Bad: Our room was an ocean view family harbor deluxe. It was a nice size, but tight for 5 people. (Go figure!) It needed more storage also. A big downfall is the room was underneath the elevator on the third floor and it was loud EVERY morning. We ended up borrowing an ambient noise machine from my sister and it helped a little. Also, the ship has a confusing layout, and my husband never really figured it out. The pools were really small too. Food in dining room was hit or miss. Read Less

The ship, the Carnival Horizon, is very nice and the decor very eye appealing. The staff was a friendly group and willing helpful and accommodating. The food was ok but not exceptional in any way. It was rather repetitive actually except for the evening meals in the dining room. The dining room evening meals did offer a variety but was just ok in the preparation and taste. I probably would have given the ship a rating of five overall except the food lowered the score. “Schwartz” was the cruise director and rated in my top three all time directors. He was super! He stayed on top of things, was very energetic, seemed to enjoy his job, and actually was some of our best entertainment. It was a very relaxing, enjoyable cruise. Read Less

This is our 5 th cruise and by far most disappointing one! Food options that you don’t have to pay for are very limited and the almost the same every day. Salad bar is basically non existent. Breakfast doesn’t start until 7, so if you are a early morning person you have to wait forever to eat. The entertainment was no where near as good as any of our previous cruises. And it they scheduled everything around the same times. So you spend all day with nothing to do unless you want to pay $12.95 to watch a movie in the imax theatre. This is the only cruise we have been on that you don’t have to be early for the entertainment. You can show up 10 min late and still get a great seat. I’ve been cruising for the past 15 years and I will try to give an objection opinion for all of you. I won’t include the good and bad of the cruise ports we went on or the weather which have nothing to do with the ship. So, I’ve been cruising for 14 years and have seen a lot of changes in the industry. The Carnival Horizon is a gorgeous ship. It was very clean, my girlfriend and I loved the décor and the center area with its funnel shaped changing screen is a site to behold. The cabins are also nicely appointed and very comfortable. The new elevator system is neat but doesn’t always work as intended (not as fast as you would like). The restaurants that we tried were excellent. But the Carnival Horizon represents a new vision with cruising which has caused me to say that, after 23 cruises, this is my very last cruise. It used to be that you paid your cruise fare and everything was included. Tipping was done with cash and you paid extra for good service. Yes, even during formal night, a lot of the guys would wear tuxedos. Then little things started to change. You still get your towel animals done by your steward but the little mints they used to give you are gone. On past cruises, you could order room service anytime you wanted and pretty much get anything you wanted at no extra charge. This is vastly different on Carnival Horizon where room service without charge is only available from 2pm-10pm and the available free room service menu is limited to a few sandwiches. Anything else (and everything else outside of the 2pm-10pm time frames) is an extra charge. A few years ago, cruise ships added a specialty restaurant where you could pay extra to get a better dining experience. The Carnival Horizon has five such restaurants. We did try Jade ($15 extra per person) and it was a great Asian meal for sure. But Fahrenheit 555 will set you back an extra $30 per person. The regular dining room was good too but they tried to get you to buy wine or fresh pressed juices. Don’t get me wrong, all of this looked good. But it does seem like less and less is included in your cruise fare. The Carnival Horizon also has an IMAX theater which is very impressive…but a movie will cost you $12.95 per person. They also have an interactive theater which we liked. But again, this was $5 per person. I will say the entertainment on the Horizon was pretty good and better than you would expect on a cruise ship. Our favorite show was Soul Bound followed by Vintage Pop. We liked the Havana Club and pool. You can only use the pool after 7pm unless you have a Havana cabin. But the Havana pool, the Serenity adult area, the shows and restaurants were all good. The buffet was okay but I really do think it was designed on this ship to be good but not too good…so you’ll try the specialty restaurants for an extra charge. But like everyone else, I hate, hate, hate automatic gratuities and so, like a lot of people on our cruise; I waited in line (a long line) at the customer service desk the last day to have the gratuities removed. The reason is that I always pay cash tips for great service and the automatic gratuities added to your bill do not go directly to the people that waited on you or really to anyone else but the cruise line. The reason is that an employee on a cruise ship signs up for a 6 month or 9 month contract with a salary. That salary is based on what tips the cruise line would be expected to receive but I like to tip the people that waited on me directly. So, the bottom line for us is that not too much is included in the cruise fare. The cruise lines seemingly want you to pay extra for this and extra for that. I’m not even including the typical shopping on board for t-shirts, cheap jewelry and other things that we’ve come to expect. But a vacation is always about getting the best value for your money. In our case, we took a 6 night cruise, with taxes and port charges added, for a total of $1,313. But…then you have to pay $132 to park at the port…then you have to pay $144 ($72 each) for internet on board the cruise ship. This comes to about $264 a day for a very small cabin (and yes you will hear your neighbors), some decent food at the main dining room and a couple of good shows. So you really do have to ask yourself if this would be worth it to you. In our case, we think that at this point, going to an all-inclusive land based resort (such as Sandals) might be the better deal. The cost may be a little more but your room will be stunning, no constant announcements about shopping, no pre-paid gratuities, no up charges for a restaurant. This was our first time with carnival but our 15th cruise. We thought we would give them a try and liked the look of the Horizon. We were so glad we did. We absolutely loved it! We thought carnival were excellent and the ship was modern and so beautiful. EMBARKATION was so easy, we arrived at our allocated time and we were on the ship in 10 minutes. We choose an inside CABIN as so cheap and it was surprisingly large, very very clean and had everything we needed. The ship was beautiful, we loved the Atruim, the decor, the modern art, all of it really ! The FOOD was wonderful. Ate in the dining room, buffet, Ji Jis, Mongolian Wok, Pasta Bar, Guys burgers, the Burrito place, Pizza and the smokehouse. All of it was excellent. Jij Jis was our favourite and a must do. ENTERTAINMENT was very good and there was always something to do. Watched 4 shows and SoulBound and Celestrial Strings were very very good. The cruise director Mike was excellent too. Could never get in to see the comedian as the queue was always massive. Enjoyed watched the piano player Jeffery Munks and some of the others, they were all good. The sky ride was scary, the thrill theatre good (preferred level 2 than 3) and loved watching aqua man on the IMAX. As new to carnival, a few things carnival do very well over other cruise lines - Disembarkation - they keep it simple, express check out or early or late. Easy and effective. Loved that the entertainment schedule is published in advance so you can plan your week. The many different fab food options which meant areas like the buffet were mainly quiet. The app you use on board was very effective. We could be enjoying a drink then go on the app, request a dinner table and ten minutes later they would let us know through the app , that our table was ready, so easy. There was only one thing that i didn’t like about carnival and that was the lack of hand washing. No one ensured people washed their hands at the buffet and we watched most people not bother. Not good. But apart from that, we had a blast and loved carnival and the horizon Read Less

Everyone was wonderfully friendly. As a first-time cruiser I really didn't know what to expect and was open to anything. We were a party of 5, (mom, dad, 2 kids ages 7 and almost 3 and Nana in tow). All first-timers! The food was very good and plentiful with many choices. For breakfast Lido marketplace was the place to be; omelettes, Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, bacon. Anything you could think of - cereals, fruit, danishes it was all there, and I sure do miss it!! Their midnight buffet had three selections, my favorite being the grilled ham and cheese sandwiches . They were awesome for late-night munching. If you're looking for BBQ the Pig and Anchor is YUMMY, go on "at sea" day for lunch at no cost. One thing, the beverage pack doesn't seem cost effective and if you're a Pepsi person you might do better bringing your own. So much entertainment and found many things of interest but always seemed to gravitate towards Lido deck aft to meet new friends, chat and laugh. Very kid friendly- waterworks, build a bear and Camp Ocean was great for them while we adults took a little time for ourselves. Shore excursions we booked lived up to expectations except one. My Sea Trek excursion was cancelled last sec, literally, because of compressor malfunction. But better still on dry land instead of underwater at the time. This is the only reason I gave 3 stars for excursions. Was offered any remaining excursions for 35% off which was appreciated but sadly I panic trying to snorkel. Overall the GREATEST vacation I've ever had!! Bucket list- Cruise Caribbean check! Read Less

Carnival Horizon was a different experience compared to previous Carnival cruise ships, added rides, water works, etc. This was our 10th Carnival cruise. Entertainment was better that previous cruises. It was nice to have a live band for some of the shows, rather than canned music. Dining was as good as before, with the exception of too many extra charges for various restaurants. The Bonsi Teppanyaki ( habatchi style) wasn't worth the extra $80 dollars and the food preparation was slow, maybe due to lack of chef experience? The service was good as usual, the elevators were a different experience, but eventually grew on you) We do miss the elevators in the central lobby/bar area. As other ships, it takes a few days to get use to the layout. We do miss the Filipino bands from previous cruises which we consider better that the violin, singe guitar, etc entertainers (personal choice of course) If you want to dance, sing along, bands are much more fun. Karioki - only 4 times in 8 days, should be every day as other Carnival ships (I like to embarrass my wife) The wife enjoyed her spa visits! Dining - the midnite buffet is baack.. would be nice if it had some variety, rather than the same thing every night. One thing we have learned over the years, is on the first day, go find your best bar on the ship, find out who the lead bartender is, and give 'em a $100 tip. Then they will take care of you the rest of the cruise (and no extra tipping required!!) Another note: the muster station exercise was indoor (rather than melting beside the boats) however it was a bit confusing, so pay close attention. This is the best time of year to go cruising, just outside of hurricane season and before holiday vacations for us. Read Less

Chose this ship because it was new and to explore the ports for our honeymoon. Booked 3 shore excursions. Ziplining in St Kitts was my absolute favorite! The power scooter excursion on Grand Turk was fun and water was gorgeous, and the provided lunch was delicious! Golden Eagle catamaran excursion was enjoyable, but boat could do with a few less passengers to allow a little more comfort room. Cabin 6205 was nice for interior price with picture window of front of boat. But the loud banging sounds from the waves crashing was quite extreme. Enough to wake one from a deep sleep. To turn on lights you must place sail & sign card into slot, just dont forget on your way out the door! Room size is sufficient, would like an extra shelf or drawer for clothing. Entertainment was great, really enjoyed every production. Never caught a comdey show, but everyone raved about them. Music in the atrium was always great! Loved the electric violins. Nice to have a movie theater on board, played 2 current movies, some documentaries and thrill experiences. Service was good, but nothing exceptional. Guest services always helpful and accommodating, but trying to ask a crew member a question in passing always seemed hurried or unaware. Food was my greatest disappointment. Nothing absolutely stood out as delicious. My favorite meals were taco bowls from the Blue Iguana, which always closed before dinner. Lobster rolls from Seafood Shack were good, but not willing to pay for it for every meal. Really enjoyed our teppenyaki dinner. Chef was funny and entertaining. Lots of food, but again at an extra cost. Overall, nice experience, but would not take same iteniaray again. Read Less

We wanted to be one of the first to cruise on the Carnival Horizon. There were so much hype and expectations. So glad we did!! Overall one of my top 3 cruises. Ship- Beautiful and decorated for Christmas Cabin- If I had to complain about something, it would be our cabin. We were in room 12221(Interior Spa Room). Only one closet to hang clothes and 3 small drawers for two to share. I don't remember ever having a room with only one closet to hang clothes or very little space for the fold up clothes. Dining - We had "our time dining", so it was a different waiting staff each time we went. It was the best dining experience we have had in the past. Entertainment- The shows are top notch. Wish we could see more. Service- Our Stewart was EXCELLENT! Ports and Shore Excursions- We did not book any excursions through Carnival Read Less

This is the newest Carnival Ship in fleet going to an Island I had not been to before ( St Kitts) You might miss the towering 9 story atrium but the new 3 story with the ever changing lightscape tower in the center of the Atrium bar is really cool. ONCE you master the new elevators it's a great innovation. I found that the "learning curve" for many passengers took perhaps the whole cruise. You have to hit the floor button in the waiting area as many times as there are people in your party or there may not be enough room as it's a "smart" elevator. However they need a handicap button as when a person with a wheelchair or scooter enters it's hard to fit more people in. The Comedy club venue ( Limelight Lounge deck 4 ) is small and the shows only last 30 minutes so get there early to get the best seats. Playlist productions has great shows in the forward Liquid Lounge (Decks 4 & 5) which turns into their late nite nightclub after the shows.Promenade deck 5 has many shops and bars with plenty of activity My best bartenders were: Pig & Anchor Bar = Ivana. Havana Bar = Diana, Alchemy Bar = Maria. Didn't go to the Piano bar but many said it was a great venue late after dinner. Read Less

Recently, I returned to Carnival Cruise Lines from a three year stint on Royal Caribbean. I was seduced by RCCL's mega ships, the quality of their entertainment and the novelty of their gorgeous mega ships. However, RCCL lacks something that Carnival has in spades - FRIENDLINESS and Horizon is no different. I'm a solo cruiser and on RCCL, I was very much alone. The staff at the dining rooms never even sat me with anyone else! On Horizon, I met friends on the first day during a tour of the spa and while I had dinner with them most nights, when I didn't, the staff at the dining rooms made sure I was sat with friendly people unless I asked to be alone. Embarkation: This process was not smooth. I had a check-in time of 12:30-1:00. When I arrived at the cruiseport via Carnival shuttle, I had already been checked in at the airport. Thank God! Because the lines to get in were ridiculous. I would have missed my check-in window by hours. When we got to the port, since we were already checked in at the airport, we were ushered through to a line to go through security. I was not happy about being yelled out to hurry up. The staff overseeing embarkation were clearly under a great deal of stress and were taking it out on the embarking passengers! Not cool, Carnival - not cool! I finally got onto the ship and it's a beauty. The Atrium was beautiful and friendly crew were selling lovely drinks. Elevators: One thing you should YouTube is how to use the elevators. They are very different from anything else I've ever seen and the first day was not pretty! They had a couple of elevators going to the Lido deck for lunch and a couple going to rooms. There was a long long and again - the staff was stressed out by complaining cruisers (I'm sorry to say I was one.) Please know that after Day 1, the elevators actually work really great. However, I kept reaching for buttons inside that were not there! A bit unnerving. Cabin: I had a Spa Balcony on Deck 11 and it was beautiful! I really enjoyed that cabin. I had a slight issue with a urine smell in the bathroom, but I left a note for the room steward and it was taken care of immediately. The cabin was spacious (as cabins go) and the balcony just awesome. The room was clean and well taken care of. One thing I do have a huge complaint about is the TV. It wasn't working right. The picture made everything look like an old movie. I did not complain to anyone, so I have no idea what they would have done had I mentioned it. But the worst thing was the lack of content! I think they had TBS and one other channel, some cartoons and that's about it except for cruise advertising channels. Very disappointing. I know most people don't spend much time in their rooms, but I like to kick back at night sometimes and RCCL has many stations and movies available. I really wish Carnival would up their TV game. There were some good movies available for a small fee and some for free. I like how RCCL has movies playing all the time 24 hours a day. Carnival, please improve this. If I hadn't loaded my iPad with NetFlix movies, I would really have been bummed. Steward: The steward cleaned my room every morning, kept me in ice, which I told him I liked when I first boarded, however, he wasn't the friendliest person. He was perfectly nice, but took absolutely no interest in me. On past Carnival cruises, the room steward became my friend. He was there at the beginning of my day and toward the end ever day, asking me if I needed anything, asking me about my day, where I came from, etc. This room steward - nothing. Just polite smiles and that's it. And his tip reflected that. Dining: Fantastic! I had the Java Cafe, which was more formal than it sounded, with My Time dining, which worked perfectly even without reservations (much different than RCCL, where I got a stern lecture on making reservations (jerks)). I only ate there one night, after which I either met my new Aussie friends for dinner at the other dining room reserved for My Time or went to a specialty restaurant. The food and presentation were amazing. I have mixed emotions about showtime. Some nights I had the energy to participate and some nights I was just tired from a full day and just wanted quiet and dinner. I highly recommend a trip to the Steak House! It is totally worth the price. You're treated like royalty and the food is mouth watering from beginning to end. I'm planning on going back for my next cruise in March. I heard a nightmare story about guest services messing up people's cruise accounts, so keep a close eye on that. Being the only person in my room, there was no way they could mess it up. Do yourself a favor and download the Carnival Hub app. It shows you everything that's going on around the ship, you can make dinner reservations, sign up for shows, etc. It also has a chat feature for $5. Gone are the days of looking all over the place for your friends - old and new! YAY! Spa: Carnival has one of the best spas at sea and Horizon was no different. I love the new saunas, but I don't like the way the thalasotherapy pool is right in the middle of the thermal suite with no privacy (like on Carnival Breeze where it is set aside in its own room). There were not enough heated, tiled divans and people were saving them (a habit I can't stand!). Otherwise, if you don't have a spa cabin, I recommend a day or week pass for the thermal suite, which has a beautiful view of the ocean while you relax. The Theater: I was very disappointed in Horizons theater. Other ships have couch style seating with small tables, however Horizons Liquid Lounge just has chairs. It's tacky and messy looking. Carnival - WHY?? The show I went to was with electric violins and the whole theater was set up looking like a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Best - this was one of the BEST shows I've ever seen. Karaoke - get there early or you won't be singing - like an hour early! I never got to sing Karaoke during my trip on the Horizon. During some of the 18+, there were many children under 18 who were allowed to take up the few spots there were. The contest was randomly picked instead of picking from among the best singers. Disappointing. They need a new Karaoke DJ on that ship as the one working it was not personable, did not interact with the crowd, did not sing and did not enforce the age restriction rules. In St. Kitts, I went on the Fan-ta-Sea excursion. The crew was fantastic, the boat was beautiful as was the scenery. I highly recommend this excursion. It is pricey, but you get first class service. These guys worked so hard for us. They were friendly, entertaining and danced with us all the way home. Remember to bring cash to tip them, because you will want to after this excursion. The food was also very good. I saw a lot of sparkly fish, a ship wreck and a giant barracuda. I also saw a couple of really cool puffer fish. This is a long day. The rum punch is excellent and the beach they took us to gorgeous. I was constantly in awe of the beautiful scenery. The crew was happy to answer questions about the distant islands, etc. Oh, and this is just a short walk from the pier, which is always a plus. They did not stop to pick up any other people - straight to the catamaran, a short briefing and then away we went. Overall, the Horizon was beautiful and her crew friendly. I've mentioned a couple of things that disappointed me, like the theater, my room steward's general invisibility, and the TV, but I had the best time of my life! Read Less

I am a seasoned cruiser (40+) with diamond status on ccl.Being new the ship was in nice shape. Signage should be better in public areas, such as location of restrooms, beverage stations,&fore&aft. My interior cabin on deck8 was fine, however I still can not understand why they do not provide a chair that has a back on it. I did not attend any shows but the entertainment in the various bars was outstanding ,probably the all around best I have enjoyed on any ccl cruise. Food was average. Why cant they serve real orange juice at the buffet instead of orange cocktail? CCL has enough ships sailing from fl. you would think they would serve a real fl. product. I had been to the ports numerous times&only took a tour in st.kitts which was well worth it even though the windows on the van were too small.Embarkation was delayed by an hour due to the prior voyage having an unexplained late debarkation. My debarkation was fine&it seemed I passed thru customs in record time. The strongest asset of CCL has always been the friendliness of the staff & this staff met (already high )expectations. NOW FOR THE NEGATIVE.I do not take cruises to watch tv,but in the past we always had access to the major networks which would let me watch my NFL games in my room if I so chose.I love my beer&football but sitting in the sports bar from 1 till 11 is abit excessive. This also caused overcrowding in the bar because somany chairs were occupied by non drinkers CCL PLEASE FIX.Also there were many upset patrons who could not watch the SEC championship game.NO MORE CCL CRUISES FOR ME DURING FOOTBALL SEASON. Had an ocean suite on this cruise. Great room, spacious and comfy. Would sail on this ship again, was my fave of Carnival ships so far. My husband missed the grand atrium feel on older ships. Played in th water park, enjoyed playing scrabble in the library. Cruise director Mike was great fun! The ship was new so everything still looked nice the dining staff and room stewards were awesome as always. And the cruise director was probably the most personable that I had seen in the last several cruises. Overall great vacation. Just the spa and fact no one cared about my concern put a bad taste in my mouth. Others complained about the casino being really small but I did not visit there but I felt their aggravation as I felt the same about the spa. I did like the new serving lines on this ship it definitely made things move faster . The guys burgers and burrito bars and deli was delicious and always had a line that moved very fast. I have always been loyal to carnival but I think it’s time to check out others due to the fact they did not want to address my concern over my spa issue. Read Less

When you first step on board, you realize almost immediately, this is not your father's Carnival! The ship is smart, modern, tastefully decorated. It still has a fun vibe, but loses a lot of the over the top in your face gaudiness that most people equate with Carnival Fun Ships. Although the ship holds over 4000 passengers, it never felt overly crowded. Carnival has upped their game in almost every aspect. And for 8 days had nearly nothing to complain about except for a utterly nasty rack of Baby Back Ribs in the Pig And Anchor, and an overly chatty tour guide in St. Kitts. The Fahrenheit 555 offered a sublime steak dinner that I will not soon forget. And the Cuban Bar and pool area offered an almost criminally underutilized area to relax and unwind after 7pm. The "smart" elevator system employed worked amazingly well. Unlike traditional elevators, you choose your floor in the elevator lobby and you are informed which elevator will take you to your desired floor. And while it is a little unnerving at first to enter an elevator with only "open and close" options, for the most part, the elevators load balanced rather well. The addition of live musicians in the playlist entertainment is welcome, even though some of the themes of the shows appeared intentionally "high brow". The comedy acts were fantastic, and we had 4 comics. They swapped out the comedians in St. Kitts. The only disappointment I experienced was a really poor rack of baby back ribs on the first night at Pig and Anchor. My son's pulled pork was really good, but the rib's were awful and terribly over-sauced. Also the railway tour in St. Kitts was overly long, lacked any real variety (how many old sugar plantations do you need to see?), and contained a tour guide that must have been paid by the word. Friendly yes, but by the time the tour ended, we just wanted her to stop talking. Veteran Carnival cruisers might mistake this more grown up vibe as being cold, and prefer the over the top party atmosphere found on some of the other Fun Ships. But I for one loved the more mature vibe. And let's not forget, you can't be too grown up with a bunch of waterslides adorning the superstructure. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive and our steward was excellent. Even Debarkation, something that is almost always painful, was the smoothest debarkation I have had on any cruise. The entire crew made sure that we were ushered off cleanly and easily. At first I must admit, I was taken back with this New Carnival. But by the end of 8 days, I was convinced that my latest cruise with Carnival won't be my last. Now only if they would come up with a solo cruisers program, I would be all set. Until they do, I'll stick with NCL for my solo cruising and Carnival for my cruises with the family. Read Less
