Loved this ship design, loved the itinerary. But the service varied from excellent, to adequate, to poor. First time on one of Carnival's big ships. Plenty to do every day. Cabin service was excellent, some of the best I ever had. Entertainment ran the gamut, some very good music groups, I thought the show performers were quite average (the Cuba show was great), bar service was overall fine, but the dining service was poor. Slow, inattentive, and often wrong. The restaurant management did try to address it, but it never got solved. The comedy club is too small. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early for the adult shows to make sure you get a seat. The main theater is oddly designed. I'd guess at least half of the seats have some level of obstructed views due to odd seating angles, a flat main seating area, and metal posts. Loved the itinerary with plenty to do in all ports Read Less

Elevator system on the Horizon was HORRIABLE. We took the stairs most of our cruise. They also need to have a separate elevator for the handicap and scooters. my mother had to spend most of her time in the room because of the lack of working elevators on the ship. Our stateroom was only cleaned once day after asking for twice a day am/pm. Food was not that great. Mike the cruise director was excellent he made the ship experience a little better. Also they need to start breakfast at 6am instead of 7:30 some folks get up early. Guest services employees need to be a little more friendly to there guest and not have attitudes. I have cruised on Carnival several times this was the worst. I do plan on crusing again on carnival to give them another chance and if no improvement I will be going on another ship.. Read Less

Horizon was great! Our handicap room, 10205, was excellent. The room was very large, and I could use the scooter everywhere. Even though it is listed as an interior room, the room has an slightly obstructive ocean view size window, and a great view. All the staff were fantastic when dealing with handicap people... from the people helping to board, to the time we left! I was thrilled about that, as I had concerns before the cruise. The only MAJOR problem on the cruise was all the smoke in the casino!! People were having to leave the area allot just to get a breath of fresh air! I had a bad cough after 3 days, and it took me over a week and a half after the cruise to clear up. Other than that, great cruise! The food in the buffet was just okay, definitely not allot of write home about. The specialty restaurants were great!! Read Less

I had $$$ casino free play, the casino was very nicely designed with the newest slots. The smoke was no worse than any other ship comparatively. We ate at the buffet , formal dining room and a specialty restaurant, "ALL" fantastic. Crew went out of their way to make everyone happy. Serenity area on deck 15 was exceptional with triple the space, cabana type clam-shell covered chairs and bar service. They even had a salad bar at lunch. Our cabin Steward was fantastic and always around if we needed anything. We have been cruising for 18 years and this was one of the best. very easy for my wife to navigate with her rollater/and cane for her to get around. We share the love among various cruise lines and really do not have a favorite. If we have the chance to cruise the Horizon again we will without hesitation. To sum it up..Great ship, crew and entertainment, especially the "Dive in" movies under the stars... they were all first run new releases..."GREAT JOB CARNIVAL". Seeyou again soon!!! P.S. have to try the donut sandwiches at the coffee shop-maple bacon-over the top!!! Read Less

Carnival Horizon is a brand new ship and is a very pleasant surprise, in that it seems to be a upgrade from the ordinary. We did the 8 day Exotic Southern cruise which was the 2nd time on this itinerary.Because of this we did not get off in, La Romina Which was a great time to go and explore this beautiful ship. However we did go a shore in the other 3 ports Grand Turks not much to do and see, we have been here before so just a trip around the port area HIGH PRICES. CURACAO when you arrive and you are in a wheel chair don,t except to much we asked and was told we only have 1 lift bus and did not bring it we didn't think we needed it, they said talk to the taxi people well we tried but they blew us off, so we set out to explore on our own, did the shops and sight see in downtown area NICE. Aruba same thing with the wheelchair walked up to a cab operator and he said nice private tour about 2.5 hours 45.00 a person to some might not be a lot but to us to expensive, so we just went out on our own again. The islands are beautiful but the prices are pretty pricey. Now onto the The Horizon, Carnival is really making it handicap accessible,The Liquid Lounge main show room they have certain spaces set aside BUT arrive early as that they fill up fast The Limelight Lounge where comedy shows are is the same and if you are in a wheelchair you can skip the line and go to 2nd entrance just let the Carnival host know they will accommodate you or your spouse. The dining rooms and passage ways seem to be wider and easy to navigate> The crew on this ship is top notch and i would like to congratulate them on a job well done!!! We never had a problem with anyone and Mike the C.D. is a real professional and does his best to get everyone into a party mood. The food is typical Carnival food and after 15 ships i have had better and i have had worse the Lido area is a nice set up but more handicap seating PLEASE. With so many lunch choices we only ate there once then we tried the no charge lunch at the various places and the Italian was the best if you go for dinner there is a charge. The main dining room food was good 1st night it was, cold but did get better as we went along. We did The 555 steak house well worth the extra charge. The drinks are very pricey almost 14 dollars a round, we don't drink much but when we did OUCH. The entertainment top notch the Vegas style shows great the singers in Ocean Plaza THE BEST the Comics the worse I've seen in 15 cruise the R rated show was nothing short of being bullied Carnival please rethink. The CONS The ELEVATORS are the worse they are suppose to be smart so you tap the touch screen for how many people are waiting and it is suppose to send a car that could accommodate i would say 85 % of the time they show up full. That is when the rudeness of those inside went to 100% Carnival please rethink this system. In the past it seemed like we didn't notice the prices to much but now we cruise and we have to do it on a budget and it seems like the prices are going through he roof. In the past we would purchase pictures and trinkets this trip only a couple but i guess we have enough. If you or your spouse is handicap don't let that stop you this ship is a real nice treat and the handicap bathrooms are plentiful as long as you find one without the KIDS playing in it. In closing Carnival is still a great vacation for the money there are subtle changes and cut backs but all in all it is still the best bargain out there and we will cruise again SOON . Read Less

Year after year Carnival just gets better and better. Carnival Horizon is Carnivals BEST, by far. We had just gotten on board and were waiting for the elevator. The door opens and out comes Shaq. He came to my 88 year old mother and gave her a hug and said a few nice words to her. He shook hands with 8 of us and he was off. About an hour later my mom and I were in the Pixels area and he saw my mom again. He walked over to her and gave her another hug and said " there's my friend again". He was so nice to her. I asked him if he could stand next to my mom for a picture, which he gladly did. He is such a great person. We had a Havana Cabana cabin and loved it. I had the exact same cabin number on the Vista when it first came to Miami. Our cabin was always spotless and so close to so much. Deck 5 is one of the main decks with so much to do. We were disappointed to find out SkyRide was not working but with so much to do, it really didn't matter. The kids with us had a great time at Waterworks and the pool. Guy's BBQ place was awesome. The food is great and the new Microbrewery beers were great. We had dinner the first night at Fahrenheit 555. The staff was fantastic and the food was some of the best I have ever eaten. One appetizer had bone marrow with it. I have never tasted anything so good before. My medium well Cowboy steak was perfect and was juicy and tasted great, too. My entire family, 12 of us, loved everything. A cruise on board the Carnival Horizon MUST include at least one dinner at Fahrenheit 555, the best of the best. I have been to Nassau so many times that I stayed on board with my mom who is in a wheel chair. I didn't want to take her off the ship there. We just sat by the Havana pool area and relaxed, it was great for me. Everybody else has a nice time in Nassau. The Carnival Horizon is so much fun and an AWESOME ship. Read Less

My 2 sisters and I decided to take my mom on a cruise. We decide to get a nice suite. Not only was there no wheel chair elevators for disabled people, but the lines for the Buffet was insane! The line to get onto the boat took over 35 minutes due to rude people not allowing a disabled lady in a wheel chair go first. Then the 10th floor buffet was gross! Lines that took way over 45 minutes. Also to get to the buffet the floors around the pools were so slick and wet we couldn't chance one of us pushing my mother to fall! Someone is seriously going to get injured. As to the restaurants thankfully they were delicious. Liked the steak house very much. The one thing I had was a great time laughing. ONLY THING. Way too crowed. 5000 people on one ship. UM no. And to have no wheel chair elevator is not smart! And they don't just have where you push the floor you want to be on. Nope. They make you wait and advise when that elevator will be ready. Again by this time rude ignorant people jump in front of my mother in a wheelchair. Lastly being on a floor with a suite, we had our own bar and pool. Loved that. BUT.....the pool was only for us till 7pm. Then it was open to the entire boat. I didn't spend thousands of dollars for rude ignorant people to be allowed on our floor's pool! Oh and best part? There was a bachelor party on this floor. LOUD, RUDE, AND didn't want to go back to the suite pool as all the guys were drunk the entire time. Shocked no one kicked them back to their suite. Would I go back? Nope. For the amount of money I spent I could of went to Ireland. Waste of money. Don't do it. Read Less

My husband and I have always sailed Carnival, and this was one of the few Carnival cruises to port in Europe. Let me start by saying overall I had fun not enough to justify the cost of this vacation and not enough to recommend it to other people. I had many friends on the ship who disagreed with my assessment. Here's what I think happened... Carnival doesn't usually sail in the Mediterranean so it probably won't be a problem for most people, but I feel like cruising is not the best way to experience Europe. We stopped in Sardinia, Florence/Pisa, Rome, and Naples (Italy), and Marseille (France), and we sailed from Barcelona, Spain. Most of our stops were not close to our actual destination and required a long bus ride (1-2 hrs) to reach the points of interest... Which left less time to explore and made for longer excursions. We only had one day at sea which was at the beginning of the cruise so all of our really long excursions were back to back. We were so tired by the time we reached our last stop that we actually skipped the expensive excursion we had already paid for. We just couldn't do another full day starting at 5:30 am (that's how early we had to get up to get ready, eat breakfast, and get to the meeting point in time for the excursion to start.) Plus, we were constantly rushing on and off the ship. On the excursions we were running to cram in as much of the sights as possible or to keep up with the tour group. I feel like we didn't have nearly enough time to really see anything Europe has to offer, which is A LOT. On the ship we were rushing to make it to some meal before the restaurant closed, or to some show, or to some other activity before they closed. Which brings me to my next point - I can't understand why Carnival had so many things closed so much of the time. It seemed like every time I turned around something that I wanted to do was closed and there didn't seem to be a good reason. On our last day on the ship we found only one of the four whirlpools on the ship was open. We had to wander around for twenty minutes looking for it. We did a lot of that - wandering around the ship looking for something that was open. I purchased the bottomless bubbles (soda) package which means you are supposed to be able to get free unlimited soda any time of day or night. I paid a lot for it. But there are so many catches... for one- you can only get a soda at one of the official bars (does not include the coffee shop or theater), which means yiu have to wait in line, there are no soda fountains. Second, you can only get a soda in a glass, (no cans) and only one at a time. So you can't use your bottomless bubbles to stock your in-room fridge. Last and most frustrating of all, not all of the bars are open at all times and not even the same times from day to day. Which means you have to wander around the ship all day and night searching for a bar that is open, or you need to constantly have your nose in a schedule trying to figure out which bar is open at that time that you happen to be thirsty. Most bars close at 11 or 12 at night and don't open again until 6 or 8 the next morning. If you want a soda between those times you have to go to the casino bar. If you're a non-smoker like me this can be exceedingly frustrating because the casino is a smoking area. You'll have to wade through the clouds of smoke to get a soda. I'm not complaining about the smoking, I'm complaining about the fact that the only bar open is in a smoking area. That's not very inclusive for people who don't smoke, and there doesn't seem to be a good reason for it considering there has to be at least 15 bars on the ship. Another example is the main buffet restaurant. During the day the buffet is almost always open, but only half of it... which makes for bigger crowds and longer lines. Why, Carnival? That's the main eating area, it's the busiest restaurant on the ship... seems like a really bad idea to keep half of it closed all the time. And if you want to eat between 12 and 6 am (hey, I'm on vacation... I'm allowed to eat late) the only restaurant open is the pizza place... Which will probably be packed since it's the only option. Or you can get free soft serve ice cream (If you can find a machine that isn't out). So basically late night entertainment and food is QUITE slim on this ship. Sometimes they have a night club open if you like that kind of thing... But I don't know if they have food. For those people who have babies and children under 2 yrs of age (there are a few of us at least) they do have a babysitting option but there are a lot of catches. It costs extra, of course but it's quite reasonable in my opinion. (6.75 per hour plus 15% gratuity). They only take babies 6 months to 2 yrs old at night from 10pm to 1am, and then in the mornings at different times depending on the day. Most days for us it was 6:30am to 12pm. That's a lot of hours but you have to work around the excursions you planned and the opening hours for all the activities on the ship. I felt like most of what I wanted to do was closed during most of those hours - not all of thise hours, and not everything. I did have a few small windows to take advantage of the baby sitting service but it took careful planning, and a lot of rushing, again. And one of those times was during the time I would have been on an excursion had I not been too tired. So I basically traded an excursion for a little bit of fun on the ship. So just be aware if you have babies. Lastly, the elevators. I don't know what they have done to the elevator system but I didn't meet one person on the ship who wasn't disappointed or angry with it. They have some kind of smart technology or poorly designed algorithm controlling the elevators. In the middle of the ship they have 6 elevators but I could only ever get 2 to work at a time. This meant you had to wait a long time for an elevator and sometimes it would be so full you had to push the button again and wait for the next one, or even the next one after that. I waited for 10 minutes for an elevator more than once on my cruise. Doesn't sound like a long time but when you're standing there doing nothing and you're in a hurry, AND there are 4 other elevators doing nothing at all... It gets frustrating. You can take the stairs but if you're on deck 3 and you want to get to deck 10 - who wants to climb 7 flights of stairs every day? This says nothing about people who don't even have that as an option. (Wheelchairs and strollers?!?) Another complaint I have is the amount of entertainment and food that costs extra now. Is it just me, or has Carnival started charging for a great many more things that used to be included? And it could have been my frustration clouding my judgment, but it seemed like the activities and food options that are included are closed more often than those things you pay extra for. I felt like a lot of the free "entertainment" was a sales pitch in disguise to get you to spend more money. There were faaaaar too many spa demonstrations and not enough live shows on the itinerary. The shopping was quite limited on the ship. A lot of expensive jewelry and watches, and not enough souvnire type shops. I was dissapointed. I really liked carnivals new candy shop, however. That was a fun place to go. I spent a lot of money on souvenirs for my children there. Another thing I really enjoyed was the service. Carnival always employs the hardest working and the friendliest people. I give them 5 stars for service. Also, the ship is always immaculate. There were never a shortage of clean tables to sit at in the main dining area (unless the dining area was straight up full - which didn't happen very often.) I loved the water slides, the sports square, and the skyride. The sky ride is soooo fun. You must try it if you cruise on the horizon or Vista. The sky course looked like a lot of fun too but I never got to try it. (I had a baby with me.) The ship is beautifully decirated as well. I loved my cabin which was just the right size. (A regular balcony room.) I love the addition if the mini fridge in the room. I also really appreciated the new hand washing machines in the main dining area. Those things were so cool and convenient. Overall, I had fun on this ship but it was very expensive and I feel like we could have gotten a much better value for our money if Canival had planned things just a little bit better. For that reason I do not recommend this ship to other people (especially families, people who don't drink or have conservative taste in shows and entertainment, or those with disabilities) and we probably won't sail with Carnival again.
