We booked this trip as a weekend getaway for a bachelorette trip. It started off terribly. Trying to park at the New Orleans port was a complete disaster. We arrived before we were supposed to board but spent almost an hour and a half in standstill traffic.. then to be told we had to turn around and go to overflow parking and take a shuttle. We were treated unkindly and yelled at- all while just trying to figure out where to go. Once on the boat, I was very surprised at how outdated our stateroom was let alone the rest of the ship. The cabin was very small and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. The food was TERRIBLE. The ONLY good food was the Guy’s burgers. I would give those a 5/5. Find that place and eat it for every meal. I survived on ceaser salads at dinner. Room service is a joke!! We would wait anywhere between 15-30 minutes just to get someone to answer, and then another 1-2.5 hours to get what we had ordered. We waited over 1.5 hours just for a Diet Coke. The bar service was extremely slow. We would wait nearly 30 minutes to be waited on. The bar tenders did not seem to care because most had the cheers program which has built in gratuity. We eventually figured out that we would have to pay in cash a server to come to the deck where we were sitting. Find the serenity deck and claim a chair!! There are clean bathrooms and nicer chairs on this deck. Unless you are into filthy music, bad smells, and people grinding, I would recommend the serenity deck. This boat is not kid friendly AT ALL! Our best part of the trip was getting off in Cozumel. We just explored around the port. We had excellent food at Pancho’s and loved the shops. Fat Tuesday’s was also fun. Returning to the cruise ship was dreadful. Disembarkation was a nightmare as well. Do not listed to them when they tell you that you must leave at a certain time. Have your stuff ready in your hand and on deck 3 at 7am on the dot. No one follows the rules so you can get stuck in a hallway or stairwell for hours if you do not stand on ready at 7 by the door. Good luck if your going to be on this boat. Bring lots of snacks and just try and dance out your attitude. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was the Music City Concert Cruise. We didn't care which ports we were visiting because for us it was all about the concerts we were going to hear. It started from the beginning - with embarkation. Due to an accident on the roadway we did not arrive at the ship until after 2:00pm. We had to carry all our luggage on ourselves. Thankfully we were able to go directly to the cabin and leave the luggage. The cabin was just about what we expected for an inside cabin. The carpet needed to be replaced as it was very stained and dirty. We went up to the Lido deck to have some lunch. The buffet was completely closed as was every other place to get any lunch. The only place with any food was the pizza place - with a line wrapped around the pool. You didn't get to order what you wanted - you took whatever came out of the oven next! This ship is OLD, very dark and extremely dated. I couldn't decided if the windows were extremely dirty or just so old they were marked. There was lots of heavy dark metal scroll work and the colors were terrible. Areas of the ship smelled of mold and sewer. This smell never did go away - it was there day after day. I felt sorry for the passengers who had cabins in that area of the ship. The service was very good. It seemed that all the staff went out of their way to try to please because they knew the ship was so bad. They all worked very hard to make sure we had everything we needed or wanted. The food in the dining room was surprisingly good. There were not a lot of dessert choices, but the chocolate molten cake was amazing! Also, the steakhouse was beyond great - the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were huge. We had the 9 oz filet and it was grilled to perfection. The cheese cake was soooo good and was huge!! There was enough to feed four people. We did not engage in any of the activities on board as we were attending the concerts. Also, we only went to the "Love and Marriage" show - which we left. I understand this was for "mature" audiences however, simulating sex acts on stage is inappropriate for any age. We understand that Carnival is the "party" cruise line but again no class at all. We did not leave the ship as we had just been in Nassau in October and it was to cool for us to do any water type activities while at the island. Will think long and hard before going on another Carnival cruise. Maybe in a year and on a larger, newer, ship. Read Less

This review concerns only the Carnival ship and company. Our cruise was an adult-only charter and we had no complaints about its organisers. Our overall impression was of a penny-pinching enterprise seeking to squeeze every last dime from its captive customers. Specifically : - Food in general was very poor. Everything in the buffet was cold and poor quality (exception: the bacon was lovely). The MDR was pretentious and lacking real quality. The smaller venues (omelette station, Blue Iguana, pizza bar...) were notably better although the burger bar food was disgusting. Most places were closed too often, giving a poor choice of food for "non-standard" meal-times. Conform or go hungry? - Drinks prices were outrageous (with alcohol packages unavailable on charters - I can't think why). Wine “deals” were available at slightly less outrageous prices, whereby you effectively pre-purchased bottles from a selection. Having taken our money THEY RAN OUT of the most popular wines. We felt defrauded. We also often received our wine when our meal was half over. Water that wasn't heavily chlorinated and decent coffee also had to be paid for. - They confiscated the bottles of wine we brought onto the ship as apparently we had put them in the “wrong suitcase". They were never returned, despite the letter that said they would be! That left a VERY bitter taste (but presumably a rather pleasant one for staff). - The internet was extremely expensive, with very limited options to choose from. There definitely ought to be a per-minute option too for those who just want to research a lunch in port etc. The staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful. However there was a noticeable lack of management and training at the level above their individual jobs. They need to know how it all fits together! Our cabin, a deck 7 interior, was absolutely fine. It was well designed, had just enough storage, and nothing was damaged or missing. The only problem - a grave one - was that the toilet stopped flushing on several occasions towards the end of the cruise. It was quickly fixed each time but it was difficult to cope with, particularly in the night. The self-serve launderette on our floor was useful although each wash, dry and detergent cost a rather high $7.50. The gym facilities were also adequate. The ship has had major refits, I believe. There are certainly some oddities, including confusing lifts. Two major problems are: 1. The casino forms a main thoroughfare, particularly when it's raining, and smoking is normally allowed there. It wasn't on our cruise, but the stench lingers. 2. Everyone walks through the Limelight Lounge to get to the MDR as there are few viable alternatives. The route runs along the edge of the stage - most off-putting for everyone. Read Less

On day 6 of my cruise my cabin was flooded due to a burst water pipe attached to the Dr. Seuss water park. I was not made aware of this situation until I came back to my cabin to find the floor soaked with water and an industrial fan on the floor blowing cold air into the room. I was inconvenienced due to the faulty water pipe burst, I missed a special dinner with the group that I traveled with on the cruise, my fellow guests had to help me move to a new cabin which was above a bar/club, and I didn’t get any rest at all in the noisy cabin. The last three days of my cruise became a nightmare and ruined my entire cruise experience. As a VIFP Platinum member, I feel that Carnival’s guest services did not take my concerns seriously and they certainly did not treat me like a VIFP Platinum member. I traveled on this cruise as a single passenger and paid for double occupancy. Carnival refused to issue me a refund for my cruise or even offer a travel voucher credit on another cruise. I was given a credit of $388 and offered drink vouchers. My cabin was the most impacted in this water damage incident and I was the least compensated in terms of money and overall respect as a passenger. I am thankful that my travel agent was traveling with me and was able to take pictures/videos of this incident and she witnessed the lack of respect shown to me by the Carnival staff. Read Less

The crew is friendly but rather unhelpful, they never clarified any instructions and I was offered a drink maybe once in my several days by the pool. There was no one out taking drink orders and bringing drinks. The food at the formal dining was not great, and even upon sitting at the bar my younger sister tried to get the crews attention for over 30 minutes. I’m addition when we made it to our second stop we originally were told we could get off at 11, well going through customs has people still on the boat it’s alrwady 2 o’clock. Originally they also said we didn’t have to be back on the hot until 8, that has also been moved up until 6:30. This is the most unruly cruise I’ve ever been on, people are missing their excursions they paid hundreds of dollars for, and frankly it isn’t even worth it to get off the boat anymore. Simply ridiculous. All of this said, we were looking for a cheaper cruise but I feel even for the price it wasn’t worth it. Read Less

This was the 3rd cruise trip my sisters and I had with Carnival. We were very excited about our trip to Europe and be on Carnival's new ship Horizon. The ship has a new elevator system. The high tech system was designed to increase efficiency and reduce wait time. We didn't notice any improvement in wait time. Most of the time, we were tire of waiting and took the stairs instead. The 2nd night was the formal night. To get to the dining room, there's a new system. First, we went to a lounge on a different floor to register. We were given a pager. The pager would go off when our table was ready. We waited at the lounge along with many others. And we waited... After 2 hours, one of my sisters decided not to wait any longer and we walked straight to the dining room. We were taken to a table in 2 minutes. As we sat down, we noticed many empty tables around us. We were so hungry that we literally inhaled the food. By the time we ordered the desserts, the server said they were closing soon and hurried us to order. It was the most terrible dining experience we ever had on ships and on land. Two days later, we tried the dining room, again. There was no wait time and the dining room was half full. Other than the ox tongue appetizer, everything else was dry and rubbery. We were discouraged completely and did not go back to the dining room again. Now, let’s talk about Lido. The breakfast choices were exactly the same every single morning. We didn’t want to have breakfast there after the 4th day. We rather ate the cold pizza we saved from the night before. We ordered one breakfast from room service but the selections were limited to bakery and fruits only. Supper at Lindo reminded me of my years living in the university dormitory. The desserts at Lindo were cakes and nothing but cakes. I took one piece one night. It wasn’t good, so I left 2/3 on the plate. I tried a different cake two nights later. This time, I managed to finish half. The positive food experience we had was the night at the Japanese restaurant having Teppanyaki. The food was nice and the price was reasonable. We had sushi in the same restaurant on another night and it was pretty good, too. The servers were courteous and helpful. We were pleased with the dinner on both nights. There were many brand name shops on the ship; more than the average cruise ships we had been to. The little gift shop was about the size of my closet at home. We didn’t buy anything on the ship this time. The stateroom we were in was reasonably clean and comfortable. After all, Horizon is a new ship. The bathroom had an unpleasant odor when we got there. We did our own cleaning with Lysol and rubbing alcohol we brought along on the trip. It was okay for the rest of the staying. There was something about the corridor in the cabin section I want to mention. The floor was uneven. It dropped and raised unexpectedly. We walked gingerly to avoid tripping and falling. The overall experience on the ship was fine. If it’s not because of the disastrous food experience and the poor dining room management, I would have given it 4 starts instead of 2. Carnival Horizon is a very nice ship. I hope my review will help Carnival to make the necessary improvements for the future vacationers. Read Less

Very 1st cruise and it was a disappointment. We paid for Faster to the Fun and it was probably worth it, but only if you were at the beginning of the line. Our board time was 11:30, but didn't actually get on the ship till 12:30. Sat waiting for "special parties" to get on. The food. Window's by the Sea buffet was no better than any casino buffet in Biloxi. The highlight of the Jubilee Room was our waiter. Guy's burgers were so greasy I think they used them in the engine room. The noise level on board ship was crazy. Everything played & sang as loud as possible. First two days the toilets didn't flush on our side of the deck. Room, not to mention the ship, is really old. Corners of wall panels peeling up. Plastic trim on window ledge bubbling off. Legs on stools & chair dusty. Carpet stained. I wouldn't want to count how many layers of paint are on that ship. Did enjoy the Karaoke & Casino. And our tour of Chichen Itza was everything we expected. We might try sailing again, but not on Carnival. Read Less

Just not for seniors! Bars are late and excessively loud, too much smoke in the casino, bands not good - the whole experience was not our cup of tea. We have traveled a lot and this is the first time on Carnival and it will be our last.......... The big show was awful....no one on pitch, cheesy themes! Only one band was good - Free at Mightnight and they didn't play enough around the ship. The staff in the dining room and our cabin steward were wonderful but the rest of the staff we found to be indifferent and at times rude. Food was good but too sa]ty for some of us. Wait staff in the brunch area on sea days need training....... we sat there for over 10 minutes before we got service and even at that we had to ask for it........ overall, the waitstaff needs better training if they are going to be in that area. And it was obviously that the big boss was not respected....he asked the waiters to do something in a very nasty tone and the looks on their faces said everything you needed to know - he is just a big bully! We subscribed to the spa only to find that the water was never warm inspire of talking to management and the heated chairs were lukewarm, again talking to staff. They were just vey indifferent. And getting on and off the ship was a ZOO! It was so disorganized! Not a good example of what good and true cruising can be. Read Less

I have am a slight handicapped passenger. i did not need a wheel chair. I had preregistered on line and the curbside support was great. the first dock people in the terminal were more interested in text on thier cell phones and not helping the passengers. when I asked what time I had to board she said its on my boarding pass. No zone was or number was on the pass that I made on line. I am a gold member and that meant nothring. I had signed up for a 12:30 boarding time and the not attentive two gate agents siad you wil jjust have to wait. when i was charging my phone I can what appeared to the supevisor or the gate area and she said I could have boarded already. We finally started the process of getting onto the ship. That is when all service disappeared. We go to the room after waiting and hour in the buffet area. the buffet line was over an hour wait. there was no assistance offered and I finally gave up and went directly to the salad bar. for a ship with over 3000 guest I would have thought more possible stations then the pasta hamburger and buffet areas would be open. the pizza was also an hour wait and the hambuger and pasta areas were also an hour wait. why the main dining rooms werent open I have no clue. When qwe got to the room. the 3rd wasnt there. We had expected a drop down bed but instead with had a trundle bed with a reaslly crappy mattress. No one was answering the steward line and no one was answering the service line. we finally went to the front desk another 45 min wait. Once I got the desk I was completely rebuffed with the fine print of the contract. if we had been told it was a trundle bed we would not have reserved the extended balcony for three. we would have gotten a standard balcony wiht the drop down ben. I asked for wheel chair assist and waited over 25 min. so my first 4 hours with Carnival were horrible. No food. room number ready and no wheel chair every showed up. when I gave up on the wheel chair another supervisor who was directing the traffic asked if he could help. My legs at that point had giving out and caused me to fall. Again no help from a staff to get up or get a wheel chair. then the continuous annoouncements. We douldnt understand and single word fo the announcements. if the ship needs to do this as load as they are it needs to be fixed. the announcements at 10 am and later should be eliminated and teh training load horns on the cozumel day were horrible. I thinki I load the hearing from laying out on the serenity deck. The food on the ship was about mcdonalds level of tastiness. poor soups, same deserts every night and the meat was 1/2 rate. this was my 11th crusie and 10th with carnival my gold level on this cruise ment nothing except the pin. no captains toast and nothing in docking etc. The service team needs to go to jet blue RCCL or southwest about service. our room steward was decent and no one got an additianal tip. I should have actually reduced all of the tips to $0 dollars. I was with 10 other men and trying to get carnival to get us onto a single table was like asking moses to party the red sea. We ended up with drunk lady that pissed off one of our guest who was celebrating his birthday and we ahd men at 3 other tables. The pizza was only decent. for the wait I would have expected more. It was basic but very greasy. I asked for vinegar for my fries and was told they didnt have any. IN all of my cruises on carnival I looked forward to different appetizer and never turned away a main because the pasta, sauce or meats were great. the sauses were average, the plate was filled with stuff that didnt look or taste good and the desert bar at the buffet was the same stuff each day. I guess the desert chefs have been allowed to serve substandard fare. I will not take the Victory again. I have had a ton better service on teh smaller ships like sendation and facination. and the ship we had in Alaska. I think we will use RCCL and celebrity for future cruises. Read Less

Embarkation: really no complaints, was able to register at miami airport and walked right on the ship. room wasn't ready, so we grabbed something to eat on the lido deck. Ship: there are simply just too many people on this ship. Everything we wanted to do there was a line for. We were fine with taking the stairs if elevators were always full. they cramped all these people on this ship (just for the money). i was so excited because this was a new ship. i paid more $$ because it was turkey day. I'm a season cruiser and truly was very disappointed. i would rather cruise on the older ships. this one everything was about the money. never got a chance to do the sky ride or water slides because of the crowds. I have never written a review but i was determined once i got home to do so. Cabin- nice balcony, tiny room with no chairs or couch. Bathroom on the same..they use to leave you a gift basket and robe to wear while cruising... No more...they use to clean your cabin twice a day...now it's once. no dressers but has two double closets. Dining: seem like all the "good food" you had to pay food. guy burger joint no seasoning. the buffet was better than the dining room. just to many people for the buffet. the bbq place close at 2:30 (was disappointed with that). main dining room was very disappointing. our waiter seemed to argue with us about our selection. only used linen on dress up days. was there celebrating my anniversary and several birthday...said they didn't know anything about it. Entertainment: so so... Ship decor - not impressed. i was looking for this havana feeling... Palm trees are fake. I did enjoy the over 21 hot tubs in the Serenity Lounge Excursions: carnival just charges to much for the excursions, so we took cabs. Itinerary: get up early and come back between 2-4. check your sail and sign accounts. We paid our gratuity before going on the cruise and it showed up over drafting my account. Bottom line no more new ships expensive and seems like carnival isn't into people pleasing no more. Btw they have 4 more ships coming out like this...child please... Read Less

We chose this cruise as a fun and easy way to go to the Melbourne Cup. It was but the ship itself is awful. When I first stepped onto this ship all I could smell was deep fat frying. Our friends that we were travelling with also mentioned the same thing, unprompted by us. It's not a good start. All I could see when we stepped on was people getting plastered at the "Pub". Also not a good look. Maybe because it was a Melbourne Cup cruise... The good things: lamb cutlets/chops at Nouveau were the best I've ever eaten, the Melbourne Cup transfers to and from Flemington were impeccably organised. It's downhill after that. Food was very average. Edible but nothing special. Drinks were restaurant prices and average tasting. We had a glass of sparkling wine one night that tasted like eucalyptus juice! There was also a bit of substitution going on. Part of our package was a bottle of Veuve Cliquot. It was substituted with a cheaper champagne. Veuve was available as it was on the restaurant wine list. As we had guests to the cabin for drinks we didn't make a fuss - but it was remembered. This cabin has lots of space and storage. Two people can fit in the bathroom at one time and it has...double sinks! The decor is hideous but I understand that a refit is on the cards so let's hope they do something tasteful. It really does look like a Las Vegas Casino from the old days. The common complaint about the stairs is true. However they were rarely used and only in port. I think they were not too much of a problem. I wouldn't travel on this ship again. Read Less

We were looking for a cruise for a "girls weekend" and this seemed really appealing to us. It was a short 4 day cruise to the Bahamas. We left on Sunday, October 29th and the check in and boarding of the ship went great. We got to our cabins and the room was a good size. We were in Cabin 6371, 6363 and 6359. We were greeted by our cabin steward Webster. He was the best part of the whole trip. He paid careful attention to our needs and we were thrilled to have him. Food ~ That evening we had the early seating at dinner. We found that the menu changed very slightly each evening. The food was good, but a couple of nights the food was just okay and found the meals to be cold. Lunch on the Lido was just okay. Was really disappointed in that. The burgers at Guy Fieri's were great, the pizza was good and found the deli to be pretty good too. Room Service was horrible. Food arrived and it was cold. Coffee and Tea were warm. It did arrive on time, but not good, Our Cabin~ Cabin was very roomy considering other cruise lines that we have sailed. That evening after dinner we went to the cabin and found that there was a band playing in the casino right below us. We got no sleep. It was horrible. I have no idea why they would have a band in a casino. There were many nightclubs on the ship and none of which were be utilized for a band. Needless to say, we got little to no sleep for the entire cruise. We complained to the service desk and got a bit sorry. Nothing we can do. The next day they offered a ship credit to be used in their gift shops. To tell you the truth, there was nothing there that I wanted. A refund of some sort would have helped but we were really sleep deprived. I was glad to get back home and get some sleep. Read Less

Cabin was clean, however our bathroom flooded on the last day and it spilled out and flooded the hallway as well. Also, the balcony door had a leak and our floor near the door and bed was soaked. We had a group of 8 and nearly all cabins experienced problems...included my now mother in law's room having no electricity or lights for almost 3 days. Food was sub par at best compared to the other cruises I've been on. Embarkation was a complete disaster because they moved the ship from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale and didn't tell us until 4 days prior that our ship was going to be very late. (Did I mention we got married on the ship?) Service was average with the exception of our room steward, who was amazing. The dining crew we had was boring, didn't care to make any kind of conversation and lacked any enthusiasm. Minus the actual 1 1/2 hour wedding/reception being stunning and flawless, the rest of our cruise/honeymoon was just ok to poor...especially compared to my other cruises. The ship is really old and has a lot of mechanical issues and I feel like the staff reflects that with their lack of energy and enthusiasm. Read Less

Some location of the boat the smell was more intense. The entire boat just needs a good washing job. The bartenders are rude as hell. The wait staff was better but it seems as thought the least seniority crew runs this boat. The drinks are so watered down that I just started ordering martini's all day long and then still seemed to be watered down. The food is mediocre at best. Long lines are the standard in the buffet especially breakfast. Best food: Guys Burger Joint. The upgraded steak that I purchased they overcooked both times and when I complained the second time, I just said take it off my bill and I won't eat it. Nope they would not do that. This cruise was chosen for us by a friend of family member. the ship was beautiful; however, the bartenders on the Lido deck need serious customer service training. long wait due mostly to the bartenders not asking who is next (or caring for that matter). Bartender Lin stated to me "ma'am you NEED to take those plates around the corner" referring to plates from lunch. I did as I was told but wait! I'm not on staff there (oh well) the entertainment in the Lido area around the pools were terrible!!! there should have been party music instead of a documentary about Celine Dion. it was very depressing and not appropriate for a vacation setting. We do not want to watch a movie while on vacation in the middle of the day on the Lido deck by the pool. please hire a new cruise director!!!!!! The head waiter at dinner was fantastic!! I've now been on 5 cruises, with this Carnival Conquest being the 5th. I have done two with Princess and two with Royal Caribbean, and those will most likely be the two that I stick with. Let me start off this review by saying that in no way was this a terrible experience! My boyfriend and I do two large vacations a year and we chose this particular itinerary for the specific ports and the value. I will say, the price was unbeatable - but you do get what you pay for. The positives: This boat was CLEAN! I never saw anything out of place, dirty, or messy. Every time we stepped into a hallway, public room, or even the pool deck we saw the staff cleaning and keeping up with maintenance. The service for most of the staff was top notch. Our Room Steward, Herry, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and constantly there for whatever was needed. Every crew member always met us with a smile and greeting, the bartenders were always on top of their job, and the Fun Squad did their best. The dining room servers... well, they were kind! But not one of them were quick or as attentive as I've come to expect on other cruise lines. The interior room we stayed in was pretty spacious! We had more than enough storage and decent room to move around in. And even though the boat is older, it is not really showing its age. It's a very pretty ship. The negatives: Oh where do I begin? The food is AWFUL. We consider ourselves foodies and tend to structure our vacations around where we're going to eat. It's an experience for us. Every other cruise I've been on, I've had memorable meals in the form of delicious dinners and desserts. This ship left me with memories of how utterly bad Carnival chefs are. Most of the food we had was bland, under seasoned, and boring. Some of the desserts were inedible, especially those from the Lido deck buffet. We actually turned it into a game of how bad the next food would be. At least we were entertained! The only redeeming food was the Carnival Melting Chocolate Cake, the short rib, and the burgers from Guy's. The pizza from the 24 hour pizzeria was OK. Other than that, my advice for Carnival is to scrap it all and start from fresh. The dining room experience was extremely aggravating. We had to wait upwards of 20 minutes almost every night at 'Your Time Dining,' no matter what time we chose, and then when we were finally seated it would take another 10-15 minutes to even get our order taken. They also would sit us in other groups of 2 person tables and serve us all our meals at the same time. I'm sure they're directed to do so, but I've never seen anything like that and it was extremely inconvenient. The entertainment was laughable. The same cast performed in nearly every night's show and it made us wonder: who was in charge of casting these individuals that actually thought they were passable singers? There were two standouts as pretty good dancers, but the "main" singers were dreadful. The blonde female had an annoyingly screechy voice, the male vocalists had no range, but at least the productions were entertaining in mocking way. The comedian, Lester Bibbs, saved everything for us though. We saw him 4 times and couldn't get enough! The enrichment activities left a lot to be desired. All they ever had was 4-5 rounds of trivia, Trivial Pursuit, and dozens of casino events. If you're not a gambler, there's a lot to be desired. Even the pool deck activities were lacking when compared to other experiences. The pools were ice cold and all salt water, incredibly unpleasant, though we were hardly ever able to get near them. Finding a chair up on the deck after 9:30AM was nearly impossible. Incredibly annoying. And my biggest, biggest pet peeve: there are no garbage cans anywhere! I felt like I had to leave garbage on tables just for them to be taken away or bring it to my room to dispose of. Garbage cans may be unsightly, but actual trash is even more so. To summarize, it would be a long time before I try Carnival again. And if I do, it would have to be a newer ship to see if they've offered any improvements. I'll stick to Royal or Princess where I know I'm going to have a wonderful experience. Read Less

I sailed on the 3/9/17 cruise to Nassau. It was a 3 day cruise that left from Port Canaveral. I am 25f and went with a group of 7 other women for my best friend's bachelorette party. Almost all of us have been on multiple Carnival cruises before and have always enjoyed it. The last time any of us went was at least a year and a half ago, and we have all been on 4 or 5 day trips. It seems Carnival has gone downhill... either that, or they just don't care about their 3 day cruisers. The service was terrible, which was disappointing because it's always been so great in the past. The only 2 exceptions I can think of are Kunkun, our room attendant, and Lester, a bartender/pool deck attendant. They were both AMAZING. Other than that? Not so much :/ The 8 of us have all worked in the service industry before (waiting tables/bartending), thus we are ALWAYS respectful of wait staff. We know how it feels to be in the weeds, running around trying to please all of your tables. So we make sure to be polite. At dinner one night, our server was rude and literally rolled his eyes at us. We were all shocked, we were being perfectly polite and we didn't see a reason for it. It also took about 45 minutes (not exaggerating) for a single glass of champagne to be brought to me at dinner, while most of my other friends got their drinks around the 20 minute mark. On the pool deck, in past cruises, you could tip a pool attendant $15 on a drink and they would take care of you the entire time. This time I did that on my first drink and NEVER saw the server again. Seriously? We often sat in our pool chairs for 30 minutes before a pool attendant came around for drinks. The bars took forever as well, but the bartenders were friendly at least. The only exception was the nightclub. We went two nights in a row and stood at the bar for about 15-20 minutes before being acknowledged by the bartenders who had TERRIBLE attitudes. I understand working in a nightclub surrounded by drunk people can't be fun, but at least try and be polite, especially when we are doing the same. Another disappointing thing-- the food. On past cruises, the food has been amazing. I'm not a picky eater, give me anything and I'm happy. This time though, it was so bad :( I got broiled scallops for an appetizer at dinner one night and I couldn't finish it. That bad. Also we were ALL disappointed in the chocolate melting cake, one of Carnival's most famous items. In the past it has been exactly how it sounds-- chocolatey, melty, and amazing. This time it was pure chocolate cake with no melting in the center :( One of my friends ordered the filet (which costs extra) and it was TINY. Luckily she was able to order prime rib from the free menu to get more food. Overall, the only reason we had a good time is because we made it a good time. I guess you can't really go wrong with spending 3 days with your best friends (and alcohol). However, we were all very disappointed because this cruise was such a let down compared to past cruises. I may give Carnival another try in the future, but with a 4 or 5 day sailing, as they really seem to care more about you on those. Or maybe I will switch to a different cruise line. Random positives: Our stateroom was nice. We had interior (no window) and 3 of us shared it. Comfy beds, Kunkun kept it clean every day, and we felt there was plenty of room. Twice we had to ask Kunkun for things and he immediately got them for us with a smile. Karaoke bar was so much fun! It was packed and we were able to get a drink relatively quickly. We should have gone there every night instead of the nightclub. Embarkation was fairly easy, no issues with that. Debarkation took about an hour but still not terrible. Carnival is pretty organized when it comes to those things. The 24 hour pizza really hit the spot at 3am when I was tipsy and tired! At one point I got a tuna salad room service sandwich and I SWEAR it was better than any of our dinners in the dining room. It was delicious. My friends enjoyed their room service BLT's immensely. The two violin/cello(?)(viola??) players in the main lobby were amazing. We really enjoyed listening to them. Actually all of the entertainment in the main lobby was great. One night they had an 80's party there and it was packed and really fun. We checked out the spa bathroom/fitness room (we never used it though) and it was SO NICE. They had a steam room, sauna, and huge locker room. Read Less

This was a Bare Necessities cruise, which, from our past experience, has an extremely friendly passenger base and very-well coordinated activities. This cruise was a disappointment, mainly due the apathetic service and really iffy food from Carnival. Compared to the Celebrity Constellation's cruise in 2016, this cruise was simply sub-par. I'm not one to send food back, but I did so at the sit-down dinner 3 times. These 'sit-down' dinners are supposed to highlight the chef's talents, but the (limited) buffet options were actually better. The staff ranged from excellent to snarky. Instead of seating us with other passengers at dinner, we were told to "sit wherever you like", which diminished meeting folks (quite a highlight on the Celebrity). Everyone we did meet agreed that this cruise was simply not up to standards, especially when comparing it to last year. Carnival is know as the "fun ship", not for quality ~ and I'd have to agree that Carnival is the 'Wal-Mart' of the cruise line, 'tho it's not any less expensive. Read Less

Dining was good. Comedians was very good but rest of the other entertainment not so good. Smell of sewage was real bad. Embarkation and disembarkation was very very slow. Very crowded but it was Super Bowl 2017 Cruise. We had an Oceanview cabin on the first floor. Never again will I ever stay on first floor of any ship again. The noise was terrible and not from above but from below. Beating and banging all the time. Hard to sleep sometimes. The smell after just one day coming up through the shower drain and sink drains, toilet also was very bad. I have very sensitive smell. Which is bad on my part. Even though there was pros and a lot of cons I will still continue to cruise just not Carnival Magic.. My husband and I are frequent cruisers & this was our first time on the magic. Out Steward Raul was the best. Read Less

This ship needs a major overhaul! The theme is so outdated and the decor bordered on tacky. Clashing carpets, walls, colors and decorations and the ceilings were really low. I tried the adult hot tub near the rear of the ship and was grossed out by the major rust bubbling up on the metal around the tub. No one came to clean up the dirty drink glasses that were laying everywhere around the edge of the hot tub. I have been on both the Sunshine and Breeze and they were continually walking around picking up things, sweeping, wiping down tables and servers were everywhere taking drink orders from sunbathers. Not one person came around the entire week I was on the ship. The Lido was severely limited in its selection and the food was sub par. Again, nothing like the Sunshine and far from them delicious variety on the Breeze. It was like I was on a totally different Cruiseline. The entertainment was good and the comedian was not bad. I will explore other Cruiselines from now on and never cruise on anything older than the Breeze if I go back to Carnival. Read Less

The Northern Lights dining area service was not up to our normal expectations. Staff seemed overwhelmed at times and getting seating for a large group was near impossible. We waited hours that is correct more than an hour for a table multiple nights. The food was also sub par. The meat was overcooked and the food luke warm at best. Service at the bar areas and other common areas was great but not in the Northern Lights Dining rooom. We also noticed a strong "sewage" odor on all floors in the aft ship area including the rear common area. Staff either are used to it or were ignoring it as they never responded to complaints or offerred solutions. Ship activities seemed plentiful but in every common area that we tried to enjoy a quiet drink the music was VERY loud. I even complained a couple of times with the staff stating that this was normal so everyone could hear. I couldn't hear myself think! Read Less

We went on a scrapbooking themed cruise on the Fantasy, leaving from Mobile. The ship was delayed coming in 27 hours due to weather and we left 27 hours late. We were promised a full day of cruising refund but we found out the hard way that the refund did not include any prorating of our $393.34 in port fees, taxes, or other fees. This makes zero sense to me since our docking in Cozumel was cancelled. I guess Carnival pays Cozumel zero port fees. I did not get the automatic prorated refund for pre-paid gratuities credited as a refundable credit to my on-board ship account that I was supposed to get so I called and spent an hour on the phone arguing that I never got it and they finally agreed I had not gotten it and so they are mailing a check in 2-3 weeks. Then there was the onboard ship account mess in addition to not getting the prepaid gratuities refund. I downloaded Carnival's cruise app where one is supposed to be able keep up with one's onboard charges. Half the time it did not work. When the account part of the app worked, it worked well and was accurate. However, the last night of the cruise, a piece of paper detailing my charges and credits was slipped under the door that totally disagreed with the online app. So I went to Guest Services and they looked it up and decided the app was right but not the last night paper statement. This was the only positive experience I had with Fantasy's Guest Services. The morning on board the ship, we heard hammering or something right below our cabin from about 6 am to 6:45 am. I went to guest services about 7:15 am and there was noone there and no sign saying they would open or be back at a certain time. So I yelled to see if there was anybody and back. After the third holler, someone came out. I was told they could do nothing about the hammering because I did not report it while it was going on. If it happened again, I should call. So the next morning when it happened again, I called guest services from my cabin and guess what? They did not answer! I hung up, waited a few minutes and called again and again no answer. Shame on you Fantasy Guest Services and Shame on the very noisy Fantasy crew who bang and make all kinds of noises when people should be sleeping. There were many more problems with this stupid cruise, and I will try to think of a few more of them. When we got to the cruise terminal, there was about a 30-40 minute line of cars outside backed up into the street trying to get into the parking garage. Once we finally got our luggage turned over to a porter and parked, I, who have a handicapped hangtag, had to stand in line with everyone else in the garage for 45 minutes just for the privilege to ride up an escalator to another long line. At this point, I spotted some wheelchairs that I had not seen before and asked for one and was told I did not need one anymore because the lines upstairs for security were real short. So we went up the escalator to security and there were horrible lines. So I asked again for a wheelchair. I wanted over 20 minutes for a wheelchair. After we got through security and signed in, I was pushed up a very, very long ramp and taken to my room by a very nice young man. But the whole ordeal of parking and boarding took over 2 hours. Oh, and by the way, there is a shortage of handicapped parking spots. Our cruise was cut from 2 1/2 days at sea and 2 ports to 2 1/2 days at sea and 1 port. Despite this, Carnival closed the pool on the last day at sea and there was very little to do except eat, drink alcohol, gamble, and play bingo. Shame on Carnival for closing the pool without telling anybody you were going to! Somebody told me Carnival does it on all cruises to clean the pool but I didn't know they were going to do it. I have been on 3 other cruises, twice on Royal Caribbean, and once over 10 years ago on Carnival and this was by far the worst. On the other cruises, the cruise line had interesting speakers who gave programs on board about the natural history or history of our destination, but Fantasy had not interesting programs like that. As for the food, my daughter said she thought the Fantasy had a theme for their food, "dry cake." Except for one night serving of Tiramisu that was tasty and moist, she and I agreed that all of their cakes were very dry and therefore not as tasty as they might have been. Carnival should serve a wider variety of desserts, especially on their buffet, such as some pies or cobblers. On the one night we had in port in Progresso, we decided to try the buffet instead of 6 pm dinner reservation and were dissappointe to get to the Lido buffet and find it there was only one hot line and it was very long. Why? This seems like a very bad management decision. Even in the mornings when they have two hot buffet lines the lines are long so why ever go down to one? Hopefully this is the last complaint, cabins are real small but bathroom not too small and they need to update the cabin to have more than one outlet for recharging multiple phones and cameras. My daughter were fighting over the outlet. And I had to get my daughter to stand on my bed to reach the air conditioning vent to adjust the air flow coming out directly over my bed since I have mobility problems and didn't dare. I'll stop there. You get the picture. Messy accounting, deplorable refund practices, horrible embarkation practices, terrible Guest Services, cabins clean but need modernizing. Since my mother told me never to say anything bad if I couldn't say anything good, I will list a few pluses: clean and neat cabins, very nice and caring personnel on board the ship except for Guest Services, good buffet breakfasts in the Lido buffet although lines a little long and having to share tables with strangers. But sharing a table with a stranger can be turned into a plus. Read Less

I almost a yearly cruiser along with at least 10 other friends/family for the last 6 years, but been cruising since 1996! This year we chose VISTA , because she was a new ship and we enjoy traveling with Carnival Cruises, and have most years had great experiences. This year I traveled with 28 family members to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and just being with family!! Bad decision, even though VISTA is a new bigger grander ship, I was very unimpressed! Bigger ship more people and sub-par service. Even the food was not as good as we have grown use to, more space where they crammed more amenities but was it worth it?? Sports bars that accommodate maybe 30 people on a ship with over 3000! I couldn't believe it and during NFL playoffs no less!! SAD!!!! On my first day after boarding we went to the Atrium bar and were completely ignored by the bartender! It was during the time when people were still boarding and the bar was not even crowded. Than on the first night we were roomed on deck 1 (ALL NIGHT we heard the slamming of what appeared to be an unsecured life boat banging against the ship!) they did finally get it secured the next day so we didn't have to endure it on the rest of the trip! Never again anything other than at deck 3-4! I was so disappointed in this cruise. Lots of new things on the ship, but between the scheduled times and the actual space allowed, it's doesn't really allow people to engage in the activities we would like to enjoy. Also when you scheduled for late dining you have to miss out on shows or try to get in after the show begins or right in the middle. I must however state that as always our room cleaners ( Jonathan ) were exceptional! We are currently discussing if we should sail again with carnival next year or maybe its time to try another cruise line. I guess that's something to think about for our future endeavor. Read Less
