We have cruised 8 times previously and on multiple lines including past Carnival, Princess, NCL, and Celebrity cruises. This is close to the bottom of all the cruises I have taken. However, let me through out a few compliments: 1. Lucky, our cabin steward was exceptional. Even more impressive is her recall of mine and my spouses name by face the second day of our cruise. 2. Simon the cruise director of the Carnival Freedom who self effacive comedy kept things light on the cruise. Now onto the bad: 1. We had cabin 1026 on the 10th floor. The cabin is dated and worn. The sofa is a combination of faded and frayed leather seat and cloth pillows. There was also a constant sewer smell from the airline quality toilets. 2. The food was an atrocious mix of gelatinous chocolate mousse, hard as a brick cakes, dried out pasta dished, and burned apple pie in the Chic Dining room. 3. Tired and worn infrastructure including deep paint chipping on the "whale tail" exhaust and a rusting track for what I assume was a once functioning roof over the adult swimming area in the aft section of the ship. 4. We ran late departing Galveston but no effort was really made to make up the time. Some Cozumel excursions were canceled and refunded but no attempt made to help us reschedule a new excursion at the last minute. 5. The ship continued on a delayed schedule up and through Ochos Rios, Jamaica. Checking in to the tubing excursion some before us were told there were two boarding times and to come buck at 11:00am. As our group moved forward for our 10:00a.m. booking we were told ours was the only group going. Those who were told to come back at 11:00 probably had a rude awakening. 6. As with most cruise ships internet service remains an expensive joke. Having chose the most expensive package I got very slow service. The idea of the HUB app is not well executed. I was never able to connect or find other parties in my group in the texting portion. Then some text messages to people I was connected with were never received after being sent by me. Cruise Critic!! You professional review is a woeful representation of the realities of this ship. Time to send your professional critic back for a reassessment. Read Less

The staff was nice most of the time, the balcony room was fair. We only got a few channels on the TV, not that we were there to be watching TV but come on. The food was terrible!!!!! I was told that cruise line food was amazing, even the fine dining was not very good. Im sure I dropped some weight. The bar tenders are inconsistent my wife and I had the cheers package and some of them would not let me get my wife a drink even if I had her card with me. The casino bar tenders were top notch they know how to treat people. The shows were hit and miss, lip sync was good and the bands were good especially the violinist. It really seems like you get nickel and dimed to death and they don’t tell you about the extra costs, they are sneaky about that. I won’t cruise again for awhile, we are looking for all inclusive destinations from now on. If I do cruise again it won’t be with Carnival. Read Less

My mom and dad will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in three days. The only time I could get a large amount of time off work was around Christmas. This was our first cruise so we weren’t certain what to expect. When Carnival says a 7 day cruise, it’s a lie. You’re only on a cruise 6 days. The first day we spent getting up at 2 am, flying to Houston, riding an hour and a half to Galveston, and then there was the whole process of getting on the ship, which took over an hour. From the airport to getting on the ship, no water or anything was available to drink. So of course, you’re very thirsty, and no drink cards work on the first day. They didnt have our rooms ready for about an hour after we got on the ship. When we finally got in our rooms, the alarm went off and it was muster time! Which is everyone lining up on deck and listening to safety instructions. I have no problem with safety instructions, but at least let us rest for a few minutes! I was not impressed with the overall look of the ship. It smelled and reminded me of a casino. The only food that was decent in quality was the dining in the evening. If you have a sweet tooth, bring your own sugar, cause almost everything is sweetened with artificial sweeteners. I think they use real sugar in the dining rooms in the evening. We bought an endless bubbles deal, for soft drinks, but they made it so difficult to get to it, it wasn’t worth it. And they still charge you $2:50 for a can of soda. Premium WiFi is a complete waste of money. It’s so slow, you’d never be able to upload or download anything. Do not go to EXcaret Park. Two people from our group were late, so the boat operator sped back to Freedom. We almost capsized two times. The blender for drinks spilled all over a passenger and broke. People were throwing up in bags everywhere, It took all day Saturday to get off the ship, get back to Houston, and fly home. Read Less

If you are accustomed to a nicer cruising experience like Holland America and Celebrity you really should avoid Carnival. Service was subpar. Ship was not as well maintained as some of the nicer cruises. And the fellow passengers are not at all what we are used to. We treated ourselves to a suite and even though the room was spacious it was not well maintained, was not clean, and was unusually noisy on rough sea days. The ship overall was cramped, tacky decor, and difficult to navigate. Be aware that if you choose the drink package, it is highly enforced. Most every hand sanitizer dispenser was empty, buffet lines had spilled food all over counter tops, and there were foul smells in elevators and toilets. Overall if you are accustomed to food and service of Holland or Celebrity and are considering Carnival, you will need to lower your expectations considerably. Read Less

I selected carnival because I enjoyed the previous carnival cruises. This one was not what I expected. On previous carnival ships the atrium was amazing. This was the first thing you saw so you were in awe as you entered the ship. The Vista' s atrium was something you might see as you entered a medical clinic, not even as nice as a shopping mall atrium. Very disappointing. It took 5 days to find my way around. In some cases you were forced to travel through the casino which was all open smoking. I am an ex-smoker and it was disgusting. My eyes burned for several hours. They had very few shops. The food at the buffet was terrible. Twice I attempted to eat a Caesar Salad and both times it tasted like fish. One night the fried chicken was under cooked. Other than the salads the choices were very slim on the buffet. Buffet was self serve slowing the line down. In the past there was carnival staff dishing up the food. The liquid lounge had a horrible design and was too small. The cruise director and the carnival dancers were amazing. The props appeared to be unprofessional but I believe they did the best with what they had. If it had not been for the dancers I would be requesting a refund. I spoke to several people on the cruise and not one had a good thing to say. I'm not sure there will be very many return cruiser to the Vista. The smaller ships are so much better. I had an extended balcony cabin cabin. It was pretty nice. I understand the regular balconies are very small. Mahogany Bay is nothing more than a small beach area with overpriced junk. It is pretty. The basketball court and slides were closed. The bike rail only lasted a day and was down the rest of the cruise. Read Less

We were lucky enough to have family harbor suites for breakfast and snacks. This ship may be the largest in the fleet...but its not in public space but in rooms they can pack on the boat. Hour long lines for food or anything...two tiny pools for five thousand people is not great. Food was ok at best when we had it from the buffet. Guys, pizza and the sushi was the best food we had we heard good things about the 555 steak place. Long lines for anything and everything, daycare hours were poorly managed for excursion days..and we had to fight to make our excursions...we either had our seats stollen or crowded out by the masses. so we had to stay in our rooms also plan to take the stairs...enjoyed ports very much, cruse director was fun and pleasant..We wont take the Vista again...it would be great it they had a few thousand less people on the boat. We saw a Smithsonian channel segment on new ships with Vista included. We live in Dallas so Galveston was convenient. This ship is bigger than other Carnival ships we have sailed on but it doesn't seem large inside. The atrium is a much documented problem. It is small, mostly bar, three stories with glass railings and bar stools at the railings to look down and watch-- what? In fact, this whole ship is to sit, drink and watch someone else do something and be told you are having fun doing it. I had the soda package and got great service with it. Our spa balcony cabin was like any other balcony, glass window/single glass door to outside. The robes provided were frayed at the necks and belts. Only two elevators go Deck 14 but also go to all decks so it is impossible to get an elevator. You walk up and down to 12 to gain access to all elelvators. The private stairway from Deck 14 to spa was nice but there was a peculiar odor on the stairwell. The spa is a hugh disappointment. The "thermal pool" is a rectangular hot tub approx 6"by14" with benches and jets down one side so you sit lined up with other passengers like ducks in a row. Holds about 6. We sail Norwegian with their great spas and were aghast. There are 8 or 9 heated lounges, far too few for the ship spa population. Saunas and steam rooms were okay. One has switch for different steam smells but it never worked. WORST OF ALL, personnel do not come and go in the spa area and passengers have loud conversations with many guffaws, pass cell phone pictures back and forth with comments, and two gentlemen had a very loud thermal pool conversation about deer getting into their yards, trapping, killing and dressing the deer--for all within forty feet to endure. No relaxing music, no aromatherapy and no "quiet" signs posted. No monitoring of what is going on in the spa area. Don't waste your money on the "pseudo spa." The shows were what you would expect, comedians were really good, IMax ok, shore excursion ok. WE ARE BALLROOM DANCERS AND NO DANCING ON THIS SHIP. There is music played above atrium bar but no dancing on atrium dance floor as it has two photographer screens set up. Two clubs with dance floor had really fast music to sit and listen and drink to. DJ same thing. One country western band drew crowd of mostly Texan passengers but no recognizable CW played. Some announced as "Canadian." No one on the dance floor just sitting. One night after enduring an entire set of this music, the band announced their last song would be "something you can dance to" They played a waltz and fifteen couples danced. THAT'S 30 PEOPLE WHO HAD BEEN SITTING, BEING TOLD THEY WERE HAVING FUN. It never happened again. We watched people walk by the dance floor, listen a minute and walk on. Carnival told us they were focusing on FUN and ballroom dancing did not fit their program. The quality of bands and two person ensembles was poor across every group. On exception was the vocalist in one band who belted out Gladys Knight's "If I were Your Woman" like a Vegas act. It made enduring that evening almost worth it. The food is very good on the Vista throughout all the restaurants we tried. The brew pub was fun. My husband thought the beef very good(nice praise from a Texas beef eater) They do great seafood dishes and the restaurant brunch on sea days is very nice. The crew and service are great. The crew are very nice and try very hard to please. We had this ship booked for June, 2019 for nine members of our family to celebrate graduations and a birthday. We are cancelling. The attractons for teenagers didn't look that good to us.The arcade had little kid and teenage games side by side-not good. We want a better designed ship, nicer spa, more space and to find real fun, not what we are told is fun. We want to have dinner and dancing. Isn't that what cruise ships do? Read Less

Cons: Disastrous disembarkment Slow service at sandwich and coffee bars Buffet room personnel struggled with English Smoky casino Spa certificates expired before last day at sea Over cooked fish in dining room Dated cabins in need of refurbish Constant coercion to upgrade/upcharge Erroneous charges on Sail card that were not corrected Did I say disastrous disembarkment? Pros: Pizza bar Rock show Medical personnel Fresh fruit Omelet station Clean room Cabin steward Members in our party purchased the drink package and it did not start until day two of the cruise. That was one of a number of issues that seemed stingy and cut rate. Needless to say, I will not be taking another Carnival cruise. However, the cruise arranged excursion to passion island was very nice. Other than the seaweed, which is an act of nature and out of the control of the cruise line, the beach was perfect. We had an issue with the cleanliness of both rooms. The balcony had vomit from the previous guest. We had underwear from a previous guest left in the bathroom. My sister brought her own personal towels & hung them on the rack. Per their rules if they are left on the rack they won’t take them. Well they took her personal towels and the Manager did not mention replacing them. The Bartenders at the Red Frog Bar on the Lido deck were rude and the drinks they made tasted horrible. I even observed them making fun of guest. The waitstaff in the Lincoln Dining Room were so slow and forgetful that we stopped eating breakfast their. This wasn’t my 1st cruise but it was some of my family members 1st cruise. We had 3 cabins and were celebrating 3 Birthdays. I will never cruise on the Valor again and I’m skeptical about another Carnival Cruise at this point. Read Less

This was our first cruise for our family. Everything was going great up until the 3rd day. That night I woke up with stomach pains and was pretty much sick for the rest of trip. My family enjoyed it, but after about 5 days, we were ready to come home (especially sick me). Our room steward was amazing! He did a great job making sure our room was clean every day. The wait staff at the restaurants was great as well. Always very pleasant and polite, very helpful. The ship itself smelled like sewer pretty much the entire trip. There was a lingering smell we could not get away from, even if we were out by the pool. Speaking of pool, there needs to be more pools. Two pools for the entire boat is not enough. During peak hours, we were all squeezed in there like sardines. The jacuzzi’s jets were not working, the water would not bubble and there was no way to turn it on. Not one time did I see them clean it and it did not smell like chlorine, so I’m a little suspicious about that. We probably won’t be going back on a cruise with Carnival. Not worth the money for the package. The excursions were fun, but beware, the pictures on then website are deceiving. Pros: Sit down dinner with wait service is included in the price, you eat and walk out. We didn’t have to do buffet all the time. Staff is amazing, very well trained and extremely courteous. Alcoholic drinks are served generously. Crew tries very hard to keep you entertained - at all times. Purchasing bottled water was worth every penny, and it’s very inexpensive - I recommend this. Casino was fun, but boy do the slots get you. Water attractions are fun for the kids Cons: Bad sanitation; lingering sewer smell was annoying Sickness: I got sick on my 3rd day. A stomach bug of some kind. Gross. Food from the the buffet is B.A.D. Tastes terrible, definitely not fresh (its expected?). Small pools, they get crowded fast. Will we do it again? Yes, but on a shorter trip and with another cruise line. Read Less

This was our 8th cruise and our entire party was dissapointed with the “lack” of friendly service that we are use to with Carnival cruises lines. Days before the cruise, we were contacted that the cruise was full and would we be interested in upgrading to a suite. This was exciting because we had always talked about we would like to upgrade someday-so here was our chance. So for a small fee-we took the upgrade. -Room-The ocean suite was great, we really enjoyed the balcony and room size! -Staff-The first evening we dined in the Saphire dining room and the main server had seemed annoyed were even there. When he finally brought the dessert menu and asked if anyone wanted anything, before we could answer-he just walked away and didn’t return. As far as our room attendant, we usually are introduced the first day-we didn’t meet him until day three. In the casino, there were several dealers with attitude and rather than having fun with talking with everyone-again, it felt like we were an annoyance. Upon leaving the ship, which was stated at 7am-we didn’t leave until an hour and a half. While waiting in line to leave We over heard three of the staff members talking about how stupid some of the guests were and how they couldn’t believe some people. Which I’m sure they do become tired of certain personality types, but in order to maintain a professional appearance-they may want to say those kind of comments to be expressed behind closed doors. -Food-usually we have been very satisfied with the quality of food and once again-we were dissapointed over-all. The only decent experience was Guy Fierre’s burger joint. All other encounters just weren’t very good. Over-All-Though we have chosen to go through Carnival for many years now, we all agreed we will definitely look for another cruise line with friendlier staff and better food. Sadly, I don’t believe we will be using Carnival again for a long time-if ever. Read Less

This is our third cruise in 10 years. Each time has been a downgrade from the time before. It seems the price has gone up including gratuity on everything, but the experience is not worth the 3k we spent for 4 days. I was expecting to have mediocre food, I was expecting cheesy out dated entertainment, I knew there were going to be a ton of women dripping wet with their bikinis on in the dining room even when the sign says you need to have clothes on, I was even expecting to hear the same music as we heard on our first trip 10 years ago. My expectations were on point there. What I wasnt expecting was it be a free for all, do whatever you want any where ever you feel. Yes, it's a vacation and you're supposed to let loose but I think carnival needs to step up security and lay down some obvious rules. I can't tell you how many people had their own radios blaring- as if there's not music piping in every speaker already. Yes, even on the "serenity" deck I couldn't get away from someone's Cardi B on loop on their phone. Everytime I stepped on our balcony I could smell someone smoking pot, and several times on the smoking decks. The gym, casino and pub had kids running around in it. The nice dining area- I'm not talking lido buffet- had half dressed people walking around like they own the place. I even saw a guy walking around with a bottle of Chivas bouncing up and down drinking it from the bottle like he was on the street. I do believe in having a good time and getting a little wild on the lido, or perhaps the casino or dance club, but you gotta know how to tone it down some. It was really embarrassing. One more thing that had nothing to do with the guests. The lido pool area is more or less where the party happens so they are mainly full of adults. I couldn't let my kids swim in those pools because everyone was plastered. I'm cool with that, but there wasnt a place designated for kids to swim yet, I believe there was a hot tub on the serenity deck, and the pool in the back is adult only also. Perhaps the pool next to the slide should be kids only, just to allow them one spot to swim with out getting drinks splashed on on their heads. On a positive note, our room steward was awesome as usual, the staff in the fun shops and camp ocean were friendly, the cruise director and his lady assistants were peppy and entertaining. My favorite part of the trip was our time in Cozumel, but we weren't anywhere near a single cruiser the entire time. We went off on our own and did our own thing. I think the next time we're getting a craving for Mexico, we're are just going to fly there. I'm sure it will save us a few grand and we won't be around the ghettoness. Read Less

We were looking for a family friendly cruise line for our young family. First and last cruise for young family We took our 5, 3 and 1 year old on the Carnival Freedom 7-day cruise to key west, FLA, Freeport Bahamas and Nassau Bahamas. We did lots of research on shops and were looking for a vacation that would be conducive for our young family. We chose this ship because the Carnival website advertised good kids programs for kids and especially because of the baby splash pad area they advertised for this specific First I’ll start with a few positives before getting to why overall, my expectations for a family friendly vacation were not met. 1. Excellent food 2. Camp Ocean was very organized and had competent staff . When we arrived we were told that there was no water area for under 2s. Carnival does not allow non-potty trained babies in any water area. In addition to no baby water area or splash pad there was no kid pool or even a designated kid area. The three small pools on the lido deck were always packed with adults who were drinking and engaging in adult behavior, not an environment suitable for kids. Furthermore on the lido deck there is always very loud adult music playing. In the kids area, Camp Ocean, located on the very top deck of the ship, almost impossible to get a stroller to, my one year old was only allowed to play from 8:00-10:00am. Like most one year olds this time was during her morning nap. The kids The schedule The entire cruise ship schedule is not suited to kids or families. There are LGBT mixers and adult comedy shows. In all 7 days there were three “family friendly” activities, a Build a Bear Workshop (which you had to pay extra for) a movie, Peter Rabbit (PG) and the Seuss a Palooza Parade which was run by a staff member who appeared to never have worked with children before. My three and five year old were wildly unimpressed with the “parade” which involved about 100 kids walking from one area of the ship to another waving bells and other noise makers. The Dr Seuss characters, advertised on all promotional materials, were present for about 20 min total. Changing table There was one baby changing station on the entire lido deck. Food The food places were closed from 2:30-6:00 leaving young families like us out of luck For after nap snacks and early dinner times. There were also almost kid friendly options on the buffet. They had a pizza place and a deli open almost always but they were very often so crowded we opted to not stand in more lines with our children going wild. On the buffet they had melon, pineapple, apples and bananas for fruit and almost no other kids food options for picky toddlers. There are a number of adult only sections of the ship, including the very front called the Serenity deck. Being at the very front of the boat, there were many children anxious to see it but they were not permitted to enter. Putt-putt was a good family activity but it closed at 5:00, right before our kids bedtime when our family would have gotten the most use out of it. There was essentially nothing for my one year old to do on Carnival Freedom. We spent our days taking turns walking her around and letting her go up and down the stairs Excursions Our two excursions in the Bahamas were marketed entirely to families. On both of them we had to walk over a mile to get there and wait in lines for over an hour. Once we arrived at the beaches, they were so crowded we had to wAit in more lines to secure a shaded area for the kids. All in all, this did not meet my expectations for a family friendly vacation. I feel as though Carnivals explicit marketing to young families is false advertising. Next time we will pay the extra for a Disney Cruise or opt for a family centered resort. Read Less

We had several issues while on this cruise. We sailed with several other family members so we had a total of 15 people traveling with us. All of us purchased the Faster to the Fun package and scheduled early check ins. The process through the check in lanes was very rushed ( I understand the reason for this ) but once we were on board they looked at our tickets and said our rooms would not be ready until the afternoon. We tried to explain to staff that we had paid so that our rooms would be ready when we boarded, they did not want to listen. so we went to the Lido deck with all of our luggage ( we didn't check any because our rooms were suppose to be ready). We finally decided to just go and find our rooms, they let us put our luggage in but it was not ready to occupy. That should have been the first clue. Through the online site I ordered small gifts to be sent to each room, of the others in our party, with a personal greeting. The gifts were delivered but the greetings were so inconspicuous that nobody realized who they were from or that something special for them. In my room I found a letter stating that some of the gifts were no longer available and that I could go to the gift shop and get a refund for less then what I had paid for the items. I had to wait 2 days before I was finally able to find the right person who was able to correct this error. The online ship info advertises a breakfast with Dr. Seuss, but unlike other activities there was not way to book in advance. I figured that this would be a daily activity. Nope, was I wrong. I tried to ask staff about the breakfast but nobody gave any specifics, until the 3rd day on board. Then we were told that the breakfast only occurs on the last cruise day and that it was already completely booked. The online info also advertises Build a Bear Workshops, but they do not say that it is a one time activity done on the last cruise day. When we finally got settled into our room we went looking for a Build a Bear store that did not exist, the kids were very disappointed. The info on the Progreso stop should be more accurate and let people know how dirty the town is, how unsafe it feels and that the locals will not leave you alone for 5 minutes before asking for money. Don't go to Progreso, ride the bus or taxi to the next town or take an excursion. Carnival should say this is an excursion only stop. There were other issues such as poor food quality and timing issues, but those were just so over shadowed by these other things. This was our first Carnival cruise and the first cruise for our family of 5 (others in our group had cruised before). I can say with all certainty that I will never sail on another Carnival ship again, I felt very much like a piece of livestock. People pay good, hard earned money for these vacations, I expected to be wowed. The sad thing is that Carnival knows that for every disappointed customer there are hundreds of others who don't care and accept what they get. There were also a few staff members who really went the extra mile and that's sad too because there were so many others who didn't. Read Less

My wife and I went on a family cruise with our son and his family. Our ports were Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. Two excursions 7 Mile Beach on Grand Cayman and Mr. Sanchos at Cozumel. Both were very enjoyable. Embarkation and Disembarkation was smooth. No real problems. However, the food and service in the dining room (blush dining) was extremely disappointing. I would rate it very poor. Example was Filet Mignon night. 6 people at the table. Not one was cooked correctly. They were ordered medium rare to medium, each one was too rare. One steak was sent back 3 times and was never correct. One evening 45 minutes to get dessert. We were the only ones left in the dining room. We finally gave up the dining room and went to the buffet which was average. This was our second cruise with Carnival and it will most certainly be our last! Read Less

This was our first Carnival cruise and will probably be our last....not quite our cup of tea. This was our 12th cruise in total....almost all on Princess. We were on this cruise because our son got married on the ship while still in port at Galveston. That was the best part. From there...not so great. Since we were a wedding party, we got to be the first on board. After all the wedding events, we went to our cabin which was OK. Inside, aft on 7th deck. We've had inside cabins before and this was a typical cabin. Only big difference was the shower is bigger than Princess and I think less closet space than princess...otherwise pretty much same. Our room steward didn't make his presence known until about 7:30 that night. And only to ask us if we wanted room clean in morning or evening....what? Only once a day????? On princess, they are continuously cleaning and restocking our room several times a day and at night turn down service with chocolate on the pillow....here you are lucky if you get clean towels each day. No ice in frig...nothing. We had to call "Jose" several times because tv remote was not working AT ALL. He finally replaced it after 2nd day. At Muster drill we were hustled outside deck 4 in the sauna known as galveston (95+ with 100% humidity) where we had to stand cheek to cheek for 15 minutes before they began safety drill. At least we didn't have to lug the life-vest with us. I had to take a shower before dressing for dinner. We had our luggage quickly, probably because we boarded so early. We were seated with our new family members at 3 large tables. Our waitstaff were outstanding and quite willing to bring us anything we asked for. Due to us celebrating our son's wedding, my husband and I had gone to Scarlett's Steakhouse for early dinner which was sooooo fantastic. Glad we ate there, but did go to our assigned late dining just to be with the family. From what we saw of the others food, glad we ate earlier. By the time dinner was over, we were exhausted and went straight to bed.....well, that was the plan. About midnight we were awaken with VERY loud talking in the halls. We kept thinking....they will go on their way....NOPE....this went on til 2 am, when I pulled out the old trusty ear plugs....turned TV to picture of front of ship with music. Turned the volume so I could no longer hear them, then finally went to sleep. Nest morning about 9 we were awaken with VERY loud conversation in the room next to ours (I think different people). We decided to get up and go eat breakfast. Since we were new to Carnival, we went to buffet.....MISTAKE...it was so packed, you could not find a seat, and lines were so long. No thank you. I grabbed some coffee and told my DH, lets try dinning room. They had Sea day brunch til 11 am. What a difference...quiet, not many people in there. Got a fantastic table for 2 and had a very pleasant breakfast. Food was excellent. Whey do they all cram into the buffet????? After looking at the activities, which were nil and none, we decided to explore the ship a bit. Then went to our not cleaned room. Fell asleep and awoke about 12:30 and decided to check out Guys Burgers....they are fantastic...highly recommend them. Great fries too. Took food back to our room, because yet again....no place to sit. Took another nap and walked around a bit. Went to our late dinner. It was good. Liked trying foods I'd never had before. There was a show in Ivanho "American Rock" which we enjoyed. Hardly anyone was there...not what we are use to. Again, around midnight, the ruckus began. Out came ear plugs, TV and got pretty good rest til 4 am when neighbors started up again......ugh. Next day was Cozumel. We were back on board by 1. Went to lido and got Guys burgers again. Buffet didn't look that good to us. Went back to room and crashed til dinner. Ate and went to bed with earplugs and TV on. Again, around 2 am Ruckus and neighbors....UGH! Walls must have no sound proofing. This happened last night of cruise also, at 2 am and 4 am. Don't these people sleep??? Last sea day they didn't tell us anything about disembarkation til after 10:30 am where you had to go search the ship for the small display of luggage tags and watch the TV later on in the day which gave you vague directions on what to do with luggage and tags and when we would disembark...basically, put your checked luggage out before you go to bed. Be out of cabin at 8:30 am and go anywhere BUT 3rd deck and wait to be called...huh???? Apparently most Carnival cruisers carry their own luggage off, few check theirs off. We managed to be on our way to the car by 10:30 am...surprisingly. We are looking at Royal Caribbean for our next adventure. Read Less

This was our first cruise... and it will almost definitely be our last! I felt like part of a herd of cattle, being ran here and there. It was hot and miserable for the embarkation and debarkation and meetings. There wasn't enough entertainment on board to keep you busy in between excursions. The beds were rock hard and kept separating. The pools were so tiny and crowded. The crew was not all that helpful and there was definitely a language barrier. How can they help if they don't understand what you need? Our steward kept forgetting things in our room. They need more information when you're booking to help you choose a room, activities, etc. and a more detailed map on how to get where you need to be. Some floors don't go all the way though. It was very disconcerting. I was very disappointed. I was so looking forward to our very first cruise and this one ruined it for me. Also, the excursion crew flat out lied to me to get me to purchase an excursion. I was pissed! Read Less

This was my families 8th Carnival cruise. First time on Valor Room attendant didn't clean the room to good. He only fixed the bed and took out the trash, didn't vacuum the whole time. We only asked for the room to be cleaned once instead of twice and he didn't do a good job at all. We might have seen him in the hallway 3 times total. They confiscated our fan at embarkation and didn't even tell us. The room attendant said he would check on it the first night but never did. According to carnivals policy a fan is allowed in your state room if used with caution. We asked the cruise director about it so he introduced to a supervisor of the hotel. He said fans are not allowed, so i showed him carnivals website where it says they are allowed . He acted like it wasn't carnivals site so I had to prove it to him. Finally he said he would check with security and get us one brought to the room that belonged to carnival while he found out why it was taken from us before boarding. Well of course the fan never showed up and of course he never got back with us. On the last morning I went to guest service to pick up my fan and asked (guest service member) for his name and she wouldn't give it me. She said she would take a statement but wouldn't give me his name. The seafood counter in back closed early, sometimes they would stand in the back and tell you it was open but wouldn't ever come to the front to take your order. The basketball court closed every day at 5pm and that was what he does most. Other Carnival ships basketball was available untill 1130p. The buffet was the same thrown together food from the day before. We ate guys burgers mostly but it closed early also. They didn't have the Las Vegas the shows every night. One night they just sat on bar stools and sang country songs. One female security guard that was on the check in gang way after the port stop was very rude to my 13 year old daughter. Then the lie they tell you that if you carry your own bags off the boat is faster was so far off. It took 3 hours for them to call our floor. They called 5 floors of guest that checked their luggage off before us. They wont let you stay in the room so it looked like a homeless bridge under pass with 3000 guest sitting in closed bars , hallways , in the casino with all their luggage. Read Less

The ship is american hero theme in decor but there are non american references to the idea of valor as well. I don't know where Scarlett Ohara fits in valor. The exterior public exteriors are art deco a throwback to classical cruise ships. There are movies every night on Lido deck. Bingo is ridiculous $5,$20,$30 per game. You can drop almost $100 per session and there are 2 a day. I stayed away from the casino on deck 5. There are a multitude of raffles held to get you to buy things but very few winners. Spa was free to sauna and steam and a quiet cool place to read. The "discount spa services" are a setup for a timeshare presentation of high dollar beauty treatments. Playbill revue shows were entertaining as were comedians. There are children everywhere crying in the room next door, at the pools, in the dining room and at adult venues after 10pm having meltdowns even though they offer after hours childrens programs. The best food is in the dining room. I had your time dining; so I could eat at different times. I find eating early avoids the loud rowdy drinkers. Avoid the pizza at all cost the only time I felt ill was after the pizza. The burgers and tacos are good but only available 12pm to 6pm. Read Less

We had a balcony and inside room and compared to Norwegian, these were large. Old Tv and very slow service on the tv. The employees were very nice. The steak and seafood restaurant are to die for. Order the oysters at the seafood restaurant and the artwork desert. Very cool presentation. We traveled with 4 teenagers 15-17 and they were bored a large portion of the time. Not enough for them to do. Pools were too full and the water slide lines extremely long. They close the basketball court from 530-1130 daily and all the games are 18+ (for dodgeball??) there was a bad smell a good portion of the time off the back of the boat. Massage was $180 and pedicure $85 before tip. Buffet had the same food each day which got old fast. The shows were good but Hasbro for example, was all about small children. My teens got bored quickly. Would recommend another boat or cruise line for traveling with teenagers. Read Less

Let me start by saying I have done 4 Carnival cruises and never had a bad experience until now; our last Carnival was 3 years ago. Cabin- we had Deck 7 interior, mirror on wall was smashed needed repair. Toilets did not flush frequently. Bed was comfortable and room steward good. Lido Deck Buffet- SOS daily, never a change. Steak House, served my husband a New York Strip with a bunch of grizzle, bad! Dining room- nice but slow Guys Burger- high point and best food boat. Embark and Debark easy and fast Casino- although I won, I was betting over $8 a spin and return on many machines was zero. Gym- adequate for a trip Shows- great! Karaoke- if you like Rap for karaoke, be my guest. Also lady running show clearly put people she liked up a number of times while others could not sing. Winston’s-best find, a little too late, we found this on our last night. Guests- about as rude as I have ever been around. Now understand wanting to bring your kids, but if you have never taught them manners, leave them home! Adults- it’s called a buffet, but folks were piling like 20 pieces of bacon to the point the cooks are rationing it, it was gluttony. I met a few foreigners and it was embarrassing we as Americans can act to rude and disrespectful. I don’t want to sound like a big gripe sessions, but I wanted people to be aware that although Carnival is clearly not the top cruise line or most expensive, it can clean up its act when mirrors and windows are smashed, and they run out of coffee in the latte bar on day 3! It’s a mess! Read Less

This was my second cruise (both Carnival), and after enjoying the first so much, I was greatly looking forward to being on an even bigger, newer ship. The experience, unfortunately, was pretty lackluster. Embarkation and debarkation went smoothly--much more so than my last visit a few years ago, so I was happy with that. There was standing in long lines, yes, but the lines moved pretty quickly and we got cycled through in about thirty minutes. Ship: The ship is beautiful and has nice interior decoration--it's not over-the-top or gaudy like some of the older ships. Everywhere we went though, especially decks 10, 11, and 12 where people like to lay out and watch the ocean, were PACKED. My husband and I tried many times to find open lounge chairs, doing full laps of all decks, and none were available. So many people "claimed" loungers with their towels or other items, then left. There simply aren't enough chairs for everyone to claim one all day, or even hours at a time. Cabin: This was my first time having a balcony. I was on deck nine, mid-ship. In the future, I'll go lower! The room felt like it was rocking most of the time. Having a balcony made the room seem so much bigger (I mean, it WAS bigger than an interior room, but a lot of it had to do with the light coming in). During this sailing, the wind was so strong that we weren't often able to enjoy the deck, but there were a few days we were able to sit out there together and enjoy it. I think in the future I'd rather put the extra money of a balcony cabin toward something else, but I'm glad to have tried it! Dining: I was really let down by the food. Breakfast in the main dining room and Lido were pretty good--no complaints there, food-wise (okay, except the eggs). There was a pretty good selection of the usual fare--fruit, yogurt, milk, cereal, eggs (powdered and pretty awful), bacon, some version of sausage or ham, and usually either pancakes, french toast, or waffles. The coffee is just terrible, and the hot chocolate machines didn't seem to be mixing the hot water with the chocolate powder right; often, the hot chocolate was nothing more than hot water with a very slight brownish haze. Lunch in Lido had decent variety, but the food quality usually wasn't very good. Guy's Burgers is good, I didn't care for Pizza Pirate at all, Pig and Anchor was alright, and the deli counter that served sandwiches was slow but good. I only ate dinner in the main dining room once. I ordered a steak, medium-well, and received a briquette. I don't mind a little char, but it was pretty much charcoal through and through. Fahrenheit 555 is nice. I'm a gal with simple tastes, so some of the things were a little fancy for me, but I managed to find things in every course that sounded good, and my husband (much more adventurous than me where food is concerned) loved the opportunity to try beef tartare. The steaks were HUGE and well-cooked. Well worth the $35 pp charge. Cucina del Capitano was also really good, and a good value. The fare there comes with far less presentation than the steakhouse, but that suited me just fine. $15 pp, and money well spent. Dinner in Lido is... awful. There was a single line worth of selection (okay, technically two, but it mirrored the first line, so there wasn't anything different). I think Carnival is really pushing their specialty dining by not offering much in the buffet area. By dinner time, Guy's Burgers is closed, so several times I opted for a sandwich. It was a little disappointing. The dessert bar featured good, fresh fruit (pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew), but the desserts themselves were hit and miss. Often, things touted as "cake" were more like a gelatin dessert. The cheesecake, when available, was good. The chocolate cake was more frosting than cake though :-/ Entertainment and Activities: The show "Flick" was really, really good. There were comedians every night, usually performing two shows, and though I only made it to one performance, it was really good. I didn't even mind standing up in the back--but I recommend arriving early for those who do! Cruise Director Lee is funny and personable. There's lots of evening/night entertainment. Morning/afternoon entertainment, on the other hand, is lacking. This ship just seemed to have too many people on it, so for the few activities during the day that didn't feature a sales pitch, there were a ton of people. Daytime activities were things along the lines of trivia, bingo, and lots and lots of things to try and get you to buy and spend. Being a non-gambler meant I had a lot of free time during the day, and since there was no space to sit outside and enjoy the day or a book or my husband's company, we were often left roaming, bored, looking for things to do. We selected this cruise because it went out of Galveston and was during Spring Break. However after sailing on other ships was disappointed in the service. Long waits in the dining room, food passed over me to guest across me and even asked to pass a plate down to another guest. Also disappointed that there were not a lot of activities for teens to do other than hang out in the Teen Club and listen to music. The activities for adults were basically to get you to purchase something more on the ship - only free activities were the dance classes and creativity activity. Lots of drunks and having to remind adults and teens that there are children on the ship with their nasty language. I was glad that I could lay out on my Aft deck and not have to fight for a place by the pool as you wouldn't be able to get one - lots of seats saved with no one ever in them. Tried to watch a Dive In Movie one night but couldn't hear because of pool filled with screaming kids. The price was right, but it was a case of you get what you pay for. Overall, it just wasn't my type of crowd. Here are a few good things: Guy's Burgers - incredible! Deli on Lido deck - Meatball sandwich - yummy! Room Steward - was good and the fun towel animals were the best! Zach Daniels at the Piano Bar was fun along with Aura John the comedian was fabulous! Debarkationo and Embarkation - quick! Other things: One plug in for the entire cabin; not one in the bathroom. Cabin steward will ask if you want your room cleaned in the am or evening or both - never had this asked on any other cruise line, but then the steward had about 30 rooms to care for and most other cruise lines they have around 15.
