On the vista all the buffet food was so terrible we couldn't eat it, it was either over cooked or just plain bad. the dinning rooms food was better but most of the nights the food was not excitable. this was the worst ship I have ever been on, most of the time they closed one buffet line and everyone had to go to the other line, which the food was so terrible we didn't eat. all the other ships I have been on had excellent food on the buffet, so what was their problem. Also they need to have one elevator just for the handicap cause people are so rude to them. we had to wait for 6 times to get my sister on an elevator cause people were so rude and wouldn't let us on they would cut in front of us. the dis embarkment went well cause we talked to the cruise director and she told us how to get my sister off in a faster way. We have cruises on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean several times and thought we would try Carnival this trip. What a mistake, the food was terrible. Very poor quality and very few selections. The Guys Burgers was the best place to eat on the ship. The Blue Iguana was second but neither serve dinner so your stuck with the Lido Buffet or the Dining room which serve basically the same quality food. The staff were not very friendly and just par in my book. No going above and beyond on this cruise. My biggest issue was with the Hygiene on the ship. On both Norwegian and Royal you are greeted at the entrance to the buffet by the “ Happy Happy Washy Washy Staff” giving everyone a dose of sanitizer before hitting the buffet. On this ship there are a few hand sanitizer dispensers and several of the ones I attempted to use were empty. Dishes on the buffet were dirty, and many guests return with their used plates and cups to refill. Our cabin, an oceanview, was unimpressive. Linen was dated, as was the overall appearance of the room. We were impressed with the embarking and disembarking process. It was smooth and timely. We will not be cruising on Carnival Again. Royal Caribbean out of Galveston is a much better experience. Read Less

Let me start by saying I have spent the last 20 years sticking up for Carnival. I would tell people I was going on a carnival Cruise for vacation and they would try to take a collection so I could buy up to RCCL. I figured it was fun and had great service, so I could live with the food being mediocre and the bed being basic......and then I had a much different experience. 18 friends on a Carnival 5 day at my recommendation. Mostly first timers. It started with the confiscation of our 8" fan which my wife needs to sleep. After 2 hours of standing in line at guest services and losing my temper, they retrieved the fan that they said couldn't be retrieved. You may think this is an odd carryon but at least 8 other people were standing n line for the same thing. You see, it isn't listed as a restricted item and I have taken the same fan on several other Carnival Cruises. My room steward stopped by while we were unpacking to set up a time for his one visit per day. They leave 1 towel per person, so if you shower more than once you are using a damp towel. On to the dining room where the waiter told me if I brought an open bottle of wine 1/3 of the way full, he was going to charge me a corkage fee......I poured it into a water glass and proceeded. The menu has changed as well and the items we used to look forward to are now an upcharge. Guys Burgers was good, the Taco place was good and the Pizza place was good but it always had a long line late at night. If you have a soda card, expect to wait until alcohol drinkers are served before you get yours. I actually was delivered a second beer before the waiter brought my wife's Diet Coke. The activities crew was good, Donkey the Activities Director was quite entertaining. Both Comedians were good and the port of Galveston did a nice job with crowd control. One more tip, luggage tags are no longer dropped at your room, if you want to check your luggage, you have to go to guest services to get tags Most of our group decided to self carry in order to get off the ship sooner. We were in group 18 for the checked luggage and beat them by 20 minutes..... Read Less

Only reason I sail from Galveston is it's only a four hour drive. Other than that it's the worst cruise terminal in the world. After traffic was backed up for a mile Galveston P.D. finally decided to get someone out at 1230 to direct traffic. Wait in line to turn, why, we'll just act stupid and cut in front of everybody whos' been waiting. Seven days of people that don't know how to shut a door without slamming it. Balcony door or cabin door, doesn't matter. People who only care about what their doing. Wait on elevator just to find someone one floor down having a conversation just holding the door open. We watched, that car had been idle for quit a while. The drunker and more stupid you acted the better you got along with the entertainment staff. Had drunk with his pitcher of whatever drunk in the Punchliner trying to save two rows of chairs threating to fight everybody, running up on stage like he owns the place. Does the staff do anything? Of course not he's what Carnival Stands for. Not the Fun Ships, we're the Drunk Ships. Try to eat in the Reflections Dining Room. Hope you like yelling across the table, because we don't know what an inside voice is. I will admit that once you could get your waiter to understand what you wanted over all the noise the food in the MDR was pretty good. Though I have yet to get a baked potato that was cooked all the way through. Don't know why guest services has a phone number. Tried calling three different times and after being left on hold for 15 minutes each I gave up. Finally got room steward to get cloths line fixed in shower. Unlike other cruise lines where you call one number for all specialty dining on the Vista you have to know the phone number of the restaurant you are trying to reach. The problem, they only publish the number to one specialty restaurant a day in the daily paper. So, if you didn't save yesterdays or the restaurant you want hasn't been listed yet the only way to get a hold of them to make or change a reservation is to go to it. Why are there urinals in the mens public restrooms? Every time I went into one there was a large puddle of urine on the floor. Ship is only few years old and flies are already a problem. On a good note, there was plenty of seating in the Market Place Buffet. They do need to add those hand wash stations to all their ships, also there could be more of them. It seemed as if about by Friday they were hinting to get us off the ship. Sausage is not supposed to be Rare and the gravy for biscuits and gravy was cold. As was anything from Blue Iguana. Went twice and both times both items were cold. Unless you're a fan of fat and gristle stay away from Guys BBQ. Lines are way too long and for what you get small portion and a plate of mostly fat and gristle, to sit out in the sun and poke at, not worth the wait. Main stage shows. I don't know why Carnival thinks were at a Rolling Stones concert. Just because you turn the volume up to 11 doesn't make your mediocre performers any better. Two of your three females thought they were a lot better than they actually are. The only one with a decent voice was the short blonde. Other two terrible, but hey, it was loud. Only way Carnival can justify the space for a library any more is to put a bar in it. First time I've seen that. I guess we need to have every inch of free space has to sell booze. Read Less

We have traveled with Carnival several times, but this was probably the worst trip. Everything from overcooked food to fights in our hallway by guest. Our states attendant was seen twice the entire trip. She didn't even clean our room during our day in port. We asked for extra towels and pillows, which we never received. We also had to call the day of debarkment for an information sheet. When she brought it to us, it was brought with an attitude. The major issue I had with the cruise is the fact that the staff/management let people come to dinner in bathing suits only. There were multiple nights where people were walking around in thong bikini's and a fish net cover up. That is not okay. The food at dinner was horrible and portions were the smallest I have ever seen. Our waiter, Jose, was the ONLY good thing about the dinner service. Security was called out on our floor for a fight that occurred and nothing was done regarding it. If you are looking to get drunk and just hang out in your room, then this is your trip. But if you want to pay for a vacation and get your moneys worth, PLEASE do not cruise with this ship. Read Less

We chose the Dream because we enjoyed sailing on her out of New Orleans and got a casino offer at a pretty good rate out of Galveston which is where we live. Embarkation was simple and quick. It was really nice that the muster was indoors since it was mid August. Our stateroom was on Lido forward. This meant a lot of walking (I had a knee injury and had to use a cane), but we chose this stateroom so that's on us. The room was clean and tidy, but we didn't see much of our steward. Room was cleaned once per day during dinner hour. This is a far cry from the service Carnival provided in the past, though it's no fault of the steward. He did his best. Smoking areas on 5 and 11 received no bar service. They were very small areas with no access to pool nor whirlpools. Smokers were confined to the very small areas and not allowed to use sun loungers. Deck 5 smoking area was blocked off about half the cruise. Deck 11 smoking was right behind the stack and black oil spots were all over our clothes. Casino area was of course full of smokers. Where else could they go? Carnival makes a good bit of money off of smokers. STOP TREATING THEM LIKE TRASH!! One other thing about the casino...there was a drawing held one night and we were to receive an entry for every 100 points we had. We each had around 1300 points. We realized as we watched the names roll around on the screen that neither of our names were there. That didn't give us a very good feeling. Steakhouse. What happened here? This used to be a very nice experience with yummy food and beautiful composed plates. Now you get a piece of meat and roasted tomato dropped on your plate. Why this change??? Terrible. Raise the price if you need to, but don't just ruin it by destroying the ambience! Main dining Food mediocre as usual, but the service was impeccable. Yaco and his assistants were awesome. Yaco served drinks at the back pool on shore days and was the only server to come up to no man's land (smoking area). Thanks Yaco! Crew They were as awesome as they could be. They are overworked and treated like crap by many cruisers. We always treat them well, enjoy talking with them and tip extra. They are the only really enjoyable part of this cruise. Entertainment Violinists were good. Otherwise really lacking. I know you can get better entertainment. Finally We've all seen the carnival experience go downhill over the years. I understand keeping costs down to allow more people the opportunity to cruise. I've never cuised another line so have nothing to compare it to. I've always loved the cruising experience til now. It was the first time I've wanted to go home from a cruise. If you smoke, be warned you'll be treated by the cruise line as a lower class citizen. I won't say that I'll never cruise again, but right now I sure don't want to. Sad. Read Less

This was the fourth cruise out of Galveston for my husband and me. We’ve always cruised Carnival and had great experiences until this time. Overall, I was grateful to be on vacation and a bad cruise is still better than no cruise, but the Vista had many disappointing moments. The sky ride was broken. The steam rooms and special hot tub were broken in the upgraded spa area. Our Carnival excursions were run poorly or started 30 minutes late...which had never happened on my prior cruises. The theater was like a conference room. The performers were talented, but the music in the shows seemed off. I really feel like I didn’t get a good value for my money in several instances. On a positive note, the service and food all over the ship was excellent! The lines for anything were never too long. The other passengers all seemed really nice. Read Less

The main attraction for choosing Vista was the sky ride. This ship went out of a service for almost 2 weeks to fix the propulsion issue, why did they not service the sky ride(first problem)? There were 5 adults and 4 young adults (17-21) only 1 liked Vista. This was cruise number six for 4 of us with Carnival. Embarkation and disembarkation went well, cabin(great), service(great). The second problem we en counted was no air conditioning as soon as we stepped unto the ship. It felt like outside. There were fans on the floor all the way to the lobby. The elevator ride to the 10th floor was no better. The 10th floor lobby and the cabin had air conditioning. The cabin did not cool as well as other ships (Breeze,Magic,Freedom) the thermostat has no digital readout, only red bars for heat and blue bars for cold. The third problem was the minimal air conditioning in the buffet(Lido). The middle was ok, but on either end near the pools you could fell the heat. The fourth problem was the temperature of the food in the buffet, it was always too low and the choices of food could have been better. Thank goodness for Guy's Burger Joint!! This ship also lost power while we were away our 3 rd excursion trapping my elderly in-laws in the elevator. They had to walk 2 flight of stairs to their room. For the amount of money spent on this ship it should not be having these problems on a continuous basis. It's like this ship was built with no plans or means to fix something if it breaks. We always hate to leave the ship on the final day but we were happy to leave today. We are also planning another Carnival cruise next year but not on Vista. Read Less

Where do I start? The food was AWFUL. We paid extra for the steakhouse the last 2 nights just to get a tasty meal. The food was bland and tasteless. The food service was great, but the food was terrible. The pools are completely crowded and the buffets have monster lines and are completely full. 4500 people is too many people for that amount of square footage. The only time I felt comfortable was when everyone else got off the boat. Then we got to enjoy the water slide and pool. Make sure you have swim shoes for the kiddos if they are going to do water slides as the floor is crazy hot. If you hate crowds this is not for you. To get off the boat we ate breakfast at 8:30 (the latest we could sit down) and 3 hours later we got off the boat. Then to make things worse they started loading passengers for the next cruise before we got off. The shows were enjoyable and the staff were great, but overall for a first time cruiser I was not impressed. I will do an all inclusive in Mexico before taking another cruise. Read Less

We choose this cruise because we have been on Carnival cruises in the past and enjoyed the party atmosphere and service from the ships staff. We decided to take this cruise 4 day cruise because we have little kids and wanted to test out there sea legs before jumping into a longer cruise. Day One Embarkation went smoothly with faster to the fun. Once on the ship my kid wanted a soda so we went up to the bar requesting a drink the bartender asked for our sail and sign card but we only had boarding documents because the sail and sign cards weren’t handed out yet. I told him we were told to use the documents but he seemed annoyed by that and took the papers in a forceful manner. I ignored this and moved on. The Barbecue served was horrible and we didn’t get to our rooms until 1:30pm. We were told that rooms would be ready when we boarded because we had FTTF. Dinner at the steakhouse was not great the waiter there was impatient and I was ready to leave. The rooms light fixtures were filthy. Not sure if it was bugs in there or just large debris but eww! The balcony was grimy so we did t enjoy that very much. The shows weren’t great but I’ve seen better on carnival. Day 2 at sea was okay until we went to the coffee bar and the waiter was frustrated because we asked questions about the drinks. Not the typical carnival experience. Camp Ocean was great my kids enjoyed that. Later that night vomit was in the halls and it smelled from that point on until we debarked. Day three was gray only because of the dolphin swim encounter and beach snorkeling. The $300+ couples message was relaxing but the best part of the cruise. Day four just sad couldn’t wait to get home. Read Less

Our 1st cruise was on the Carnival Valor, we LOVED everything on the Valor, not so much on the Dream. Everything from cleanliness, food, drinks was a complete let down. The ship stunk on the Lido deck like sewage/urine. The food was nothing special, the dining room basically had the same menu night after night, with only a few items different each night. The desserts were unimpressive, quality inconcistent. We were in the Crisome dining room stuck in a back corner, asked if the window coverings could be opened, so we could see out to the water, was told they never open them, their entertainment show was nothing entertaining about it. The best meal we had was the Dr. Seuss breakfast that was $5 per person extra. We did enjoy Trivia, Sorry and the 50's/60's Rock and Roll show, we went to the 80's music show also, it was ok. The waterworks area was nice and the grandkids enjoyed it. The only 2 times our faster to fun helped us was getting on the ship and getting off the ship in Galveston. The Blue Iguana Bar (Tequlia bar) was closed most of the time, which then back up the Rum bar, so most of the time we waited for a deck server to get us a drink, sometimes taking as long as 30 minutes. This was my first cruise with my 11 year old daughter. We planned for months and were excited to spend minimal time on the ship and go to our planned stops- Jamaica, Cayman and Cozumel. Carnival announced 4 days before the cruise that the ship was having mechanical issues and could not get to Jamaica but was being redirected. After an initial disappointment, we sucked it up and chose new itineraries in the new places we were going. Everything was planned for months, time off work and airfare purchased. We left AZ at 3 am and got to the ship on time. Onboarding was easy, but once we got on board we were told of another itinerary change- we were only going to TWO stops in Mexico and staying on the ship an extra day. We could have gotten off the ship for a full refund, but having traveled with a child who would be more disappointed that the entire vacation was called off was not an option. I spent a fair amount of time on board trying to change excursions, waiting in line to talk to guest services and had to buy service to call the airlines and change my flights, which were non refundable. I dropped an extra $800 for one way tickets back to AZ since the cruise was extended the extra day. I emailed Carnival (since I never actually got to talk to guest services because of the wait time) and was told that mechanical issues were out of their control. The excursions we booked were canceled at the last minute because of the rough seas- and we couldn't get anything else because they were sold out, due to the itinerary change. While Carnival offered 50% off the next cruise, I am wondering why they think I would remotely want to cruise again based on this terrible first experience? The only saving grace on the ship was the staff. They were great and we had fun watching the shows. But after 4 days sailing, we were a bit stir crazy, and our first excursion was sitting on some less than wonderful Mexican beach. I didn't book a cruise to sit on a ship for an extended period of time- I booked as a means to get to exotic locals and have some adventure. Adventure it was not, and mechanical issues are certainly within the control of a company that manages ships. Departure was fine for us but we were also one of the first called off the ship. The room was fine, food was fine, but the hassle pretty much ruined the only vacation we have taken in three years. If I wanted to sit on a beach in Mexico I would have rented a house and driven there. Carnival is assisting with the airline ticket payments but overall, it was not worth the frustration or hassle, as we didn't get to do much of anything that was planned. They gave on board credit which I used for a massage to try and destress from it all. Read Less

I went on this cruise as part of a large group (50+ people). It was my first cruise and will also be my last. I was always told your are treated like something special on a cruise. I did not experience this. I was also told that the food was fabulous on cruises. Not the case on the Freedom. Getting on to the ship was absolute chaos. Luggage is turned in at one end of the port and you have to walked back through the massive crowds to get to the entry doorway to go through security and board the ship. What a mess that was. When you walk onto the ship and finally get inside the oppressive three story atrium makes you feel depressed. It is dark and underwhelming. No excitement. No light and airy feel. The first thought is "what did I get myself in to?" We had to wait two hours before we could get to our rooms. Once we hit Deck 2 we smelled the never ending smell of light sewage in the air. In all the elevator lobbies and general populations areas there was always something to be wiped down and/or picked up. Food was more miss than hit especially the Lido deck buffet. Yuck! Guy's Burgers were about the only think edible on the ship - everything else made us nauseous. Staff would sometimes smile but most of the time not. I really did not like to see my 77 year old mother harassed on debarkation. >:{ Ship windows were cracked. Cabin couch cushions had mold, spots, rips and tears. Beds were more comfortable than they look but still too short - my feet hung over the edge the entire trip - I'm six feet tall. The nail tech in the spa was great but that's about where it ended. AC in cabin never cooled things down below 78. Called maintenance but they never showed. Fitness center did not open until 5PM - no morning workouts unless they entailed walking circles around Deck 10 through the smoking areas. Saw drunken fights every night on the ship. Had to call security on one woman who beat her husband which was right across from my 14 year old daughter's cabin. Another incident happened in the casino where a guy accused a woman across the roulette table of racism and she never said a word to him. Another night a guy on the Lido deck suck punched another guy walking by with no provocation. I hid in my cabin the last night just to stay away from the drunkenness. If I ever cruise again it will not be on Carnival. I had to come home and schedule a true relaxing vacation from this mistake on the sea. Read Less

When we first entered the atrium, it was just like someone’s extra large living room with extra number of chairs and a bar. The decor is simplistic and lack of the grandeur ambience other carnival cruises we have been on(total four carnival cruises so far). This actually goes for the whole cruise ship. A lot of activity and small areas for sitting with nice chairs but the whole design of the ship feels claustrophobic. Buffets have very limited options and it was disappointing because buffet is one of the things we enjoy on cruises. Guy’s burger used to be available until midnight on other ships but stops service at 6pm today (not sure if it is the same hours everyday). Not sure if this is a way to get people go to fee based restaurants which there are four or five. We enjoyed JI JI Asian fusion restaurants and went twice. Formal dining is not at par with other carnival cruises either. There is IMAX and thrill rides which is nice if you are willing to pay for it. There are more photos purchase options like downloading on your phone , USB or prints but the problem is the photos are displayed digitally instead of prints and the digital prints have carnival logos all over and I ended up ordering photo in which my face is twisted but that specific detail is blocked . We booked two excursions and despite of the high price we did not even get a bottle of water for drink. I would be careful to go with carnival and read reviews first before I take carnival cruise again. Read Less

Poor We were very excited about this cruise. We decided to pick this one since it was one of the new ones departing from Galveston ( well 10 years) . However, we found an old ship with poor and outdated decoration. We waited about 45 minutes with at least 800 people in the checking area before getting into the cruise, with almost no air conditioner and not enough space. It was pretty chaotic. Inside, everything was very crowded, amenities were out of shape and most of the time, there was not enough space for everyone. Tons of people everywhere you go, loud music, and no space in the pools. Food in the buffed was plenty, but very poor quality, same with the sandwich and pizza area. The chocolate and cake station was far from exquisite and the pasta bar was completely awful. However, the Mongolian wok was very good, same as the brunch, breakfast and dinner at the Scarlet (main dining). Shows: our second show ( something related to movies) was the best one. The other ones were not impressive. Movies: the movies in the pool were a great idea. Better Our experience at the Scarlet wasn’t great at first. We had to share a table ( late dining) and there was very little space for everyone, plus the waitress wasn’t ideal either. Luckily, we talked to the Dmitry and he give as a beautiful table in from of the ocean for ourselves (in early seating). This was such a plus! Food here was very good. Reagan ( another waitress) was incredible. My only two recommendations will be: 1) work on better desserts, the chocolate cake was the only good one we had. 2) clean better the plates before you serve them (work on food presentation). Mercy, the lady that cleaned our room was the nicest person we met, besides Reagan. She took care of every detail in our cabin, everything was clean and well organized and she was extremely sweet. Overall: we loved the beach. Cozumel and Costa Maya were incredible! We enjoy having breakfast and dinner at the Scarlet as well. Even so, we won’t be going back to this ship. I recommend newer cruises. Read Less

The cruise ship itself is not aesthetically pleasing, very dark decor...also not very organized as it took us days to figure out the floor plan The temperature in our room was the main issue! After the second day, it started becoming warm in our room and we began reporting it. Staff came down, checked the temp which was about 74 and gave us some fans. On this seven day cruise, we complained and called at least 7-8 times. Staff would simply come in and check the temp which continued to hover around 74. At one time, the thermostat was changed out. On the 5th day, I got tired of sweating in my own room. I called Guest Services who stated someone would be down to the room shortly. After an hour, I marched down there not too happy. Luckily, management was there and took me seriously. By this time, I was livid. The temp in the room was 78.1. We were finally moved from the room and given a balcony room so I can at least say for 2 days, we were comfortable. The food was primarily mediocre. I love a good breakfast buffet but it was basically the same everyday. Guy's Burgers I guess was my favorite along with Blue Iguana. All in all, I will probably try to avoid this ship because of our uncomfortable experiences. Several more cabin members also discussed the temperature on the facebook page We did experience the quickest check in ever! Read Less

I have been on two carnival cruises in past eight months/spent around 15k on tickets and onboard services. The service and organization on cruise to Alaska in August outweighed high pressure sales at spa/jewelry store/art gallery. The mediocre service/lack of organization on cruise out of Galveston over spring break, 2019, along with the high pressure sales that bordered on deceptive trade practices make it highly unlikely I’ll cruise with Carnival again. At an appointment at spa for massage I inquired about a facial. They reported an opening at 8:00 a.m. the following day. I said I’d think about it and let them know, and the girl said “We’ll keep it open for you!” When I called later that day to let them know I did not want the facial because my young daughter was seriously sea sick and throwing up, they reported that they would still charge my credit card due to failure to cancel (I never “booked”) w/i 24 hrs. At the art gallery I expressed interest in a piece. They were very insistent that I purchase right then and there. I left saying I’d think about. I got a call two days later asking about the art I “purchased.” When I said I never purchased, they preceded to tell me I had “reserved” the piece and was obligated to buy. Only when I asked them to show me what I had signed indicating I was reserving or buying, did they relent. Also, they were very unaccomofating fir my 80 yr old family member I had with me. They refused to allow me to take the elevator with her when boarding, and it took me an hour to find her after. Upon disembarking, they said she had to wait in the same line with everyone else, which took 45 minutes (she can barely stand with a walker. Carnival, I’m very disappointed and encourage all reading to reconsider cruising with them! Read Less

Crew is the least friendly and coldest we've ever encountered on Carnival. The ship is full of gimmicks (for extra $); the "accessible" balcony cabin, was impossible to "navigate"; Guest Services was curt and unaccommodating when we requested a different cabin, even-though we said we'd take an inside one without requiring any fare adjustment or credit. The Spa "therapists" were all smiles and no substance, it did not feel sincere at all. The dinner menus were uninspired and repetitive, and the Reflections restaurant is does not feel inviting or comfortable. Too many large tables and not enough servers. The "FUNSquad" was not very fun at all, they mostly just go through the motions for trivia, name the song, and other games and activities. Room Service delivered our breakfast ALWAYS outside the requested 30-minute window, up to 30 minutes earlier and then 45 minutes late on the last day. A few times we tried to order coffee in the afternoon (there was no self-service Decaf available anywhere on the ship...), and that would take from 45-minutes up to TWO hours to have it delivered. I love Carnival Cruise Lines and always have. I do my best to get on every new ship they bring to Galveston. Booked Vista at Christmas time for late February. Embarkation was amazing. Smooth, and easy. The best ever in Galveston or Canaveral, for me. Vista is beautiful on the outside. It’s massive! Once inside though, you see the major changes of this class of ship. The atrium lacks everything a carnival atrium has always had. The shops are small and boring, the bar is larger but the service was horrendous. Balcony room was nice! Stewards were overworked and not friendly like any other Carnival ships. The worst so far in that regard. The dining room was a joke to say the very least. Why in the world is the check in counter on a totally different floor in a totally different area? Wild. A “10-15 minute wait” on the app would end up 45-1 hour every time. The staff was terribly overworked, they did their best... but the service was not good. Saw the bar service person once in the dining room the entire 7 days. FOOD WAS GOOD!! Serenity (adult only deck), amazing as always. The salad bar was unbelievably great! Bartenders in this area were amazing. I’m a casino-goer & a smoker. The casino on vista is the worst on any ship. Small, packed, very smokey. The circular bar in the middle has no TVs. The area is very bright and you just end up making awkward eye contact at people across the bar the entire time. The bartenders here were the worst. No respect for customers or each other. Lots of eye rolls behind each other’s backs. Attitude when someone would order a drink they didn’t want to make. Cheers! Package has always been great for me and my group. Always felt like it was a great value. Have never been able to hit the drink limit. On Vista however, I hit it every day. Oftentimes before 9pm. NO LIQUOR IN THE DRINKS. I had a friend (without Cheers!) order the same drink as me - night and day difference. I will not continue to buy this package if they are going to skimp out. GREAT KIDS ACTIVITIES! Highly recommend the ship if traveling with children. 18+ not so much. They have eliminated the “night club”. The makeshift club is now in the comedy show room. The bar in a step up from a picnic table with bottles on it. Terrible music, very awkward in there. Im not sure what happened to having the club be in the Liquid Lounge but it’s not going over well. Sandwich bar: great as always Seafood shack: good! Lido Buffett: on par with Carnival Steakhouse: AMAZING sushi restaurant: very good! Overall it is not a miserable ship. I’m sure first time cruisers might not even know the difference. For me though, it’s a boxy, poorly designed mess. Good luck finding restrooms in the public areas. Read Less

Took the 5 day cruise on the Valor with my brothers and their wives. We have been on many other ships and this was the first that was rusted, very limited live entertainment, deserts were only cake and ice cream only and steak and lobsters were $20 extra.(we have always had free lobster 1 night on other ships). The carpeting in the "suite" was very stained and I had to have them fix the balcony door so it would close properly. Shopping area was basically 2 stores and very high prices. (We were given $50 gift certificates to the store and spa and they would not pay 50% of the cheapest item which was a $125 message. There were some $10 items sold in the hallway kiosks that looked pretty nice. I was not given my promised $50/person onboard credits even though it is printed on the ticket and the free drink card I won at the casino was almost worthless as it took an average of 30 minutes for the ONE waiter to get to the table or machines and the card would not work at a bar. Slot payouts were extremely low with 5 ea 7's only paying $80 on a $1 machine. The only bright spot was the service, in that our stateroom attendant and dining room waiter (Nilson) were very good. We didn't take the excursions this time but Progresso is a new village inside a shipping port with about 20 vendors that were branches of the ones in Cozumel. We did not have children but there were a lot of them on the ship even during school days. Although we are regular cruise veterans, we would not consider the Valor. Read Less

I've been on around 8 cruises mostly carnival ships. This was by far the worst cruise I have ever been on. I think most of the problems can be contributed to cost cutting and not having enough people on board to keep up with the work load. I had dirty napkins and glasses that either had lipstick or dried food on them. I got coffee with my dessert at dinner once. How hard is it to bring coffee to the table. They were just so overworked. We had different wait staff every night so it wasn't just one bad waiter. About 25% of the workers I encountered were rude or just really annoyed. The way all the activities were timed was really aggravating. Dinner always interfered with what we wanted to do with the kids, It seemed like after 8pm everything was geared towards adults. The kids I was with were 14 and 16 and the comedy shows were 18 and over at 8 pm. They watched movies every night. The music/dancing shows were not good at all. Every night was a different theme with the same people who cant sing. Breakfast was pretty good, Lunch was good, but the desserts were not. Dinner was also good except for the service. My room was a 2nd floor balcony, under the lifeboats. Which was nice. There was some noise at night above us but for the most part it didn't mess with our sleep. I talked to other people on the elevator who had 2nd floor rooms they said they couldn't sleep at night because of all the banging. There were parts of the ship layout that were not good. Seating was horrible for shows, There was a really small atrium. I just didn't like it. Overall I just didn't enjoy myself on this ship. Will be trying a different cruise line next time. Read Less

We had not sailed aboard the Vista and wanted to try it out. This was my 16th. Carnival cruise. I had carried a book that I wanted to study and on sea days there was not a spot (even on our balcony) that was quiet enough. The music that was playing on the speakers in the Ledo dining areas was absolutely HORRIBLE. The food on the buffet was not as good as you would get at Luby's Cafeteria. Thank goodness for Guy's Burger! The crew did a great job and was very friendly and that helped. The majority of the passengers I saw were aged between 55 and 85. For this crowd the Dive-in movie was something like "The ant man vs the wasp". Really, If Carnival is going to purchase their movies from the Wal Mart five dollar box they should arrive earlier before the selection becomes that poor! This ship was not as open as the other Carnival ships and it was crowded. The casino was totally filled with cigarette smoke. We had selected the anytime dining. You had to go to one floor to sign into the dining area and then travel to a totally different floor to access the dining room. I typically go to the seaside brunch on each sea day and the dining room each night. I only went to the dining room one time this cruise and that was more than enough. The ship was clean and our room was pretty good. Read Less

We have cruised 8 times previously and on multiple lines including past Carnival, Princess, NCL, and Celebrity cruises. This is close to the bottom of all the cruises I have taken. However, let me through out a few compliments: 1. Lucky, our cabin steward was exceptional. Even more impressive is her recall of mine and my spouses name by face the second day of our cruise. 2. Simon the cruise director of the Carnival Freedom who self effacive comedy kept things light on the cruise. Now onto the bad: 1. We had cabin 1026 on the 10th floor. The cabin is dated and worn. The sofa is a combination of faded and frayed leather seat and cloth pillows. There was also a constant sewer smell from the airline quality toilets. 2. The food was an atrocious mix of gelatinous chocolate mousse, hard as a brick cakes, dried out pasta dished, and burned apple pie in the Chic Dining room. 3. Tired and worn infrastructure including deep paint chipping on the "whale tail" exhaust and a rusting track for what I assume was a once functioning roof over the adult swimming area in the aft section of the ship. 4. We ran late departing Galveston but no effort was really made to make up the time. Some Cozumel excursions were canceled and refunded but no attempt made to help us reschedule a new excursion at the last minute. 5. The ship continued on a delayed schedule up and through Ochos Rios, Jamaica. Checking in to the tubing excursion some before us were told there were two boarding times and to come buck at 11:00am. As our group moved forward for our 10:00a.m. booking we were told ours was the only group going. Those who were told to come back at 11:00 probably had a rude awakening. 6. As with most cruise ships internet service remains an expensive joke. Having chose the most expensive package I got very slow service. The idea of the HUB app is not well executed. I was never able to connect or find other parties in my group in the texting portion. Then some text messages to people I was connected with were never received after being sent by me. Cruise Critic!! You professional review is a woeful representation of the realities of this ship. Time to send your professional critic back for a reassessment. Read Less

The staff was nice most of the time, the balcony room was fair. We only got a few channels on the TV, not that we were there to be watching TV but come on. The food was terrible!!!!! I was told that cruise line food was amazing, even the fine dining was not very good. Im sure I dropped some weight. The bar tenders are inconsistent my wife and I had the cheers package and some of them would not let me get my wife a drink even if I had her card with me. The casino bar tenders were top notch they know how to treat people. The shows were hit and miss, lip sync was good and the bands were good especially the violinist. It really seems like you get nickel and dimed to death and they don’t tell you about the extra costs, they are sneaky about that. I won’t cruise again for awhile, we are looking for all inclusive destinations from now on. If I do cruise again it won’t be with Carnival. Read Less

My mom and dad will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in three days. The only time I could get a large amount of time off work was around Christmas. This was our first cruise so we weren’t certain what to expect. When Carnival says a 7 day cruise, it’s a lie. You’re only on a cruise 6 days. The first day we spent getting up at 2 am, flying to Houston, riding an hour and a half to Galveston, and then there was the whole process of getting on the ship, which took over an hour. From the airport to getting on the ship, no water or anything was available to drink. So of course, you’re very thirsty, and no drink cards work on the first day. They didnt have our rooms ready for about an hour after we got on the ship. When we finally got in our rooms, the alarm went off and it was muster time! Which is everyone lining up on deck and listening to safety instructions. I have no problem with safety instructions, but at least let us rest for a few minutes! I was not impressed with the overall look of the ship. It smelled and reminded me of a casino. The only food that was decent in quality was the dining in the evening. If you have a sweet tooth, bring your own sugar, cause almost everything is sweetened with artificial sweeteners. I think they use real sugar in the dining rooms in the evening. We bought an endless bubbles deal, for soft drinks, but they made it so difficult to get to it, it wasn’t worth it. And they still charge you $2:50 for a can of soda. Premium WiFi is a complete waste of money. It’s so slow, you’d never be able to upload or download anything. Do not go to EXcaret Park. Two people from our group were late, so the boat operator sped back to Freedom. We almost capsized two times. The blender for drinks spilled all over a passenger and broke. People were throwing up in bags everywhere, It took all day Saturday to get off the ship, get back to Houston, and fly home. Read Less
