I used to love Carnival. Not the case anymore. This cruise, to put it politely, SUCKED. The service in the Scarlet Restaurant was non-existent. The service of the waiters and waitresses, non-existent. Trying to get a soft drink on this ship is like pulling teeth. No one pays attention to you unless you are an alcoholic. All the fun things happened while everyone was in Port, and the only thing they had to do at night was Seminars on how to improve your posture, and junk like that. I was not on a cruise to be "evaluated" on how I walked, I wanted to have fun. I had none. This cruise line is terrible to say the least. The food is terrible, the drinks were even more terrible and the only thing that made this cruise even worth the trip was the fact that some of the staff were over friendly, and there were a few places on the ship that are quiet and pretty. But again, for the most part, not worth the $3500 we spent . Never again . Read Less

The travel dates and departure port (Canaveral/Orland) met with the spring break travel time we needed to take our daughter on her graduation vacation. Considering that the Sunshine had recently come out of dry dock and been refurbished we thought this would be a nicer experience. The ship was smaller than we expected and felt very crowded. The spa suite we were in though was wonderful. We had early assigned dining and it was a mess. The dining room service was sub-par, the staff was unorganized and the food overall was disappointing. Having been on several other Carnival cruises, this was by far the worst experience we have had. The staff didn't put on a show 2 nights during dining that were planned. The nights that they did provide a show, it was unorganized and seemed very well unplanned. Despite being seated every night for dinner by 6:15, several times we were not out of the dining room w/ dessert until well after 8:45. Some meals we were even 1/2 way through the meal before we ever even got anything to drink besides water. During the morning dining breakfast the vast majority of the dining staff was unpleasant and cool. Not what you typically see of the dining room. Entertainment was crowded and overall not very well planned. We were unable to see ANY of the comedy shows because the venue was so small and there was no seating. Several nights even an hour before the show started it was standing room only. This was disappointing. We learned after that the venue on this boat had been significantly downsized to accommodate other changes on the boat during refurbishing. Other shows though that we attended, were greatly empty. Faster to the Fun purchase was a waste on this sailing. Except for early boarding, NONE of the cabins on the boat were ready and all of the doors were shut to the staterooms until after 2:00. FTTF is supposed to provide your cabin being ready on embarkation. Additionally, there was no priority debarkation in any of the ports w/ the shore excursions provided. As such, we almost got left by the excursion staff for our port of call in San Juan because we ported late and it took us almost an hour to get off the boat. According to the customer service desk, the boat as the "option" of providing priority debarkation and the Sunshine does not provide it. The service was mediocre in most areas. (cabin stewardess was wonderful). We also had problems with the spa, which is a big issue for us as we spend a great deal of time and money in the spa. The massages we experienced on this boat were not worth the price we paid and paled in comparison to those we received on other ships. Additionally, the spa jacked up our onboard expense account on the 2nd sailing day by charging us almost $1400 for spa services that had been pre-paid prior to sailing. Thus, resulting in a 1/2 day to fix their error and our inability to be able to even purchase a drink during this period. The ports we stopped in were very nice and our shore excursions were great. However, our stop in San Juan was very short. Once we left and returned from a planned excursion on the other side of the island, we had enough time to get through the gate back to the boat. There was no time to explore the port, which was disappointing. We are scheduled to sail the Sunshine again in 02/2018, but if we do not have a better experience, we will not sail this ship again. We chose this cruise to celebrate a Birthday and our Anniversary. We have cruised this trip on 4 other occasions. We are platinum cruisers with Carnival and have been on many cruises. This cruise tops our "favorite" list. (Not the destination, but the cruise). We normally find ourselves drinking more than we normally do and come home exhausted. This cruise, we decided to pamper ourselves the entire cruise. We had a balcony suite on the Spa Level. It was awesome. We spent 90% of our time at the spa. We had the couples bamboo and hot stone massage, a facial, the men's shaving treatment/haircut/foot and leg massage, teeth whitening and even hired a personal trainer while on board. The Physian, Dr. Olachea, Spa Manager and all of the Spa Staff, Elina, Victoria, Megan, Oliva, Kate and many more, were the best we have ever experienced on a Carnival Cruise. I have a fractured heel, due to a running injury. Kate, the Personal Trainer put together workouts that were customized to my injury, still providing a great and challenging workout. They always made us feel "important" and treated us like Kings. We had to walk by the Spa door every time we left or came to our cabin. They always waved and were very friendly. We had the flexible dining schedule. Our waiter was the best we have had on a cruise as well. His name was Roger. He had 2 other young ladies working with him and they were awesome as well. Our room steward was great and very attentive. We did not visit the bars often, but when we did, they were always friendly. As far as the entertainment, it was average. We did partake in the casino (slot tournament) twice. The 2 female staff members that were in charge of the tournament were great also and very entertaining. The process gaining access to the ship was quick and efficient. The process departing the ship was quick and efficient as well. This was an excellent experience. We wish we could have this entire staff on every cruise that we take. In all the cruised that we have taken, we have never submitted a review, not that the trips were bad, but the trips in the past never really stuck out in our minds. We have never had any issues with Carnival. Read Less

This was our 13th cruise and the 9th with Carnival. Embarkement was quick..on the ship within an hour. Stayed on the Spa deck which came with 2 free exercise classes each and access to the spa pool and saunas. We liked the decor of the ship..has a summer outdoor feel all over. The ship looked in very good shape to us...she is going into dry dock next week for some upgrades we were told. We had late dining in the Blush restaurant...food and service was very very good..no complaints at all...thanks to our waiters Wayan, Dewa and Joelyn. We had a table of six, however nobody else showed up which was disappointing. We also ate at the steakhouse which was outstanding. The buffet at breakfast and lunch had a good variety as well. We enjoyed the nightly shows at the comedy club which was packed every time. The cruise director Schwartz is awesome..so much energy and fun! We sailed with him last year on the Magic...he is hands down the best cruise director we had so far. We did the sharks and rays excursion to Caye Caulker in Belize...highly recommend that trip. We booked with Carnival because of the price and the fun activities on board. Our next cruise is on the Legend in September from Vancouver to Hawaii. Read Less

I picked this cruise based on the overall price, the fact that it fit my criteria in terms of dates and the destinations. Also, it seemed like it would have a nice mix of things to do. Overall, I was happy with our vacation. I'm a single parent of an only child, and travelling alone with her presents challenges and concerns. In the basic ways Carnival got it right. We both had fun. We both made it home safe and healthy (with 5,000 plus people on board this obviously matters too). We will both remember this trip foundly. So, really no major issues and it delivered what I wanted. I just want to say thanks to the hard working staff. First and foremost a great value for all we got for the price. The ship's layout was easy for my 12 year old and me, 44, to figure out. The ships decor is pretty cool, kinda dated, but still charming overall. The staff works really hard considering some of the crazy kids and confused adults they patiently endure. I never felt like the staff was nasty in any way. The staff isn't like the Ritz-Carlton, but when you look at the customer base it couldn't really be justified or achieved. I also feel like this vacation was a great value. The thermal spa for $119 was worth the price. I got to sit in a really nice thermal tub and enjoyed the steam room a lot too. This comes with a locker and BIG shower. Having this spot to shower and relax is definitely something I'd recommend. The shower alone makes it awesome. So when my kid slept I went there and relaxed then showered for the day. Very good to have when you consider the size of the showers in your room. The food was pretty good mostly, but some of it kinda sucks. Carnival gets it right at Blue Iguana, Guy's burgers, Guy's BBQ, the pizza spot, the Indian food, Red Frog Pub and the steak house are all really good. These places serve food fresher and more memorably. The buffet kinda sucks as does the main dining room. I believe they should limit the variety a bit. Edit down to the better items only. I personally would rather have a very good cheeseburger than a poorly cooked lobster. I will love anything if it's done with passion. Why bother with something if it's not done well? We liked the outdoor movies. The stage entertainment was enjoyable, maybe not Broadway ready, but still enjoyable. The cruise director Dr. E definitely earned his money. This guy should host a tv show. We did 3 excursions and they were all fun. Big shout out to big Al at Mahogany Bay horseback excursion. Very fun excursion. Ride a horse on a beach, through the water - hold a monkey named Charlie while you sit on a horse! Very cool!! Saw a couple funny comedians and a couple of so so comedians. I spent $3200 with my drinks and the 3 excursions. I spent more in Chicago in 5 days staying at a Hyatt sightseeing and going to plays. Feels like I got my money's worth. My kid loved it and I love that. It exceeded my expectations. Read Less

Booked this cruise over a year and a half ago when tickets went on sail. Since having great experiences on our 7 prior Carnival cruises we were anxious to check out this new ship. It had been a year and a half since our last cruise. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. Aside from the ships long list of amenities I was very happy to find that the things that are basic to all ships and cruises seemed to have gotten even better..Overall the food in all venues just seemed better. The entertainment was superb and there was never a dull moment. This ship is big! My fitness tracker recorded an average of 8000 steps a day which is good as it helps offset the indulgences. I do try and work out daily as well. Even with the high passenger count there are plenty of places on the ship outside of your cabin to get some quiet time. It is up to you. Notably is deck 5 Lanai areas, the Library and the Havana Bar. Carnival has done a great job of providing services away from the Lido Deck marketplace. We would grab continental breakfast in the Ocean Plaza on Deck 5 and sit outside and enjoy. No crowds at all. I am not a fan of the marketplace and try to avoid it as much as possible. Notable food items are the Lobster Roll and what appears to be much improved Pizza. Constant line for Pizza during the day as they cannot seem to make it fast enough. Pig and Anchor was very good too. We sailed with another couple that sails several times a year. This was their first Carnival cruise and they were very impressed. They told me that many things were better than what they had experiences on any other cruise they had taken. They will be sailing Carnival again. We loved it! Read Less

This ship was amazing, crew was very friendly and went beyond what was required. I enjoyed early morning explorations of the ship and watching the ship as it awakens. There is plenty to do onboard for everybody. Cleanliness was very good, I saw some people make some big messes and the crew always cleaned it up so you could not tell what had happened. The food options are impressive, Guys burgers and the fries are delicious. The pizza was worth waiting for every time. My boys loved the ship so much they wanted to live on the ship and when we left they wanted to know if they would ever be on it again. Embarkation and disembarkation were both pretty smooth, just do as they say and it goes great. Ports were great, loved the water in Grand Turk. I would definitely cruise on the Vista again and it won't come soon enough. Read Less

We choose this cruise because we have heard of its good reputation. I am very happy that I had my first experience of cruising. The onboard experience is marketed relaxing and enjoyable as I have no dull moment. Watching sunrise in the morning, gym, spa, sauna & steam, so much food with many varieties to choose from and a 24 hours pizza! I must say WOW to our 3 waiters in the evening Vitaliy, Komang and Yen. Thanks to them to make the meal time so enjoyable and they took care of our need. We only request once and they remembered to supply us in every meal. We must say Thatvwevfeel like VIPs. Love to dance with the waiters during the evening meal time. Great entertainments and activities. Love to watch the children participated in the towel animals folding on stage. My impression and experience tell me that the management takes great care of customers service. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we chose Carnival because of the price and that it covered our birthdays. Our trip started well with the shuttle from the airport it was easy to use,( they found us) quick and our luggage was well taken care of at the port. Our cabin was a pleasant surprise comfortable and very clean. Later we found it to be well appointed. We sailed out of Sydney and the views from the ship were outstanding. We used most of the dining options, and enjoyed all of them. The Empire being our favourite not just because of the great food, but because of Dessi and her marvelous team who not only feed us each night but entertained us. Our waiter Godfrey sand and danced for us each night. We enjoyed the Red Frog Pub and again our waiter Eka gave us personal attention. The stops at the islands were wonderful, some with not a lot of touristy things which was nice. Our cabin stewards Turi and Andi keep our cabin in very good order and went out of their way to help us celebrate our birthdays with messages in colour pens on the mirrors. We found that all the staff we came in contact with remembered our names and made us feel like we were special. Lastly the young people who put on all the shows, Wow what talent. The comedy club, very entertaining. We travelled from Adelaide to join the ship, We are a couple late 60's and early 70's. We disembarked with ease, no rush, shuttle to the airport in time for our flight. Would we do it again...........in a heart beat. Thank you Carnival. Read Less

We don't usually cruise Carnival maybe (8 times) but it suited us this time. I'm a long time cruiser with over 50 cruise. Don't stick to any one cruise line as I don't like playing the status designations. If they want to give me something, then I'll take it. But I'm not going to pick a particular cruise line because of my status. That being said. Just got back from Mexican Riviera today. As usual, the cruise staff was great and functioned as best as they could under the Carnival regimen. (Others cruise staff are treated better by their bosses and so treat us better, fyi.) Food was limited. Not much difference between the buffet options and the restaurant. So if you don't like to dress up, like we don't, you get the same food. But overall variety of options are very limited. Food quality was not bad, but not something to rave about. I didnt' get poisoned. Had great weather and it was a good time of the year for this cruise, climate wise. There were still bug bites to be gotten, especially at Puerto Vallarta, compared to summer time, So bring bug spray. But temperatures were perfect. Entertainment of this ship is limited, it might be their training ground ship perhaps. Got a suite with all the amenities that often come with it (laundry, spa, priority on and off the ship, etc), Our steward, Rogie, was awesome. ATTENTION: Not enough outlets in the rooms to charge all of our devices. We usually bring extension cords to we can charge our ipads and cellphones. But there was only one 120volt outlet and it was in the bathroom. We talked our steward into bring us a power strip with extra plugs. Make sure your extension cords are 3 pronged (grounded) Only critique: Who books a cruise and doesn't get onboard credit. Was supposed to have $200 onboard credit for spending, but never got it. This is not a deal breaker for me, but in principle I feel cheated and it leaves a bad last day carnival taste for me. Wouldn't blame the ship's staff at all when I inquired about it. They checked into this and got back to me very quickly, so they did their part. But Carnival seemed to weasel out of their commitment somehow and stated that there was not onboard credit deal. Of all of the cruises I book with, I don't think that I have every not had onboard credit. Again, not a deal changer for me considering I lost a lot more having fun in the casino, Advice: Watch the fine print if that was it was. I still don't know how this happened. Read Less
