Embarkation was amazingly easy. disembarkation was a mess. They said only one customs agent showed up and they had "no control", REALLY? We were over an hour late, leaving us standing it line. The Balcony room was wonderful and Michael, our steward, was exceptional. Dining was acceptable, once we got into the dining room. Once again, the organization of moving into the dining room seemed nonexistent. The first and third night we waited over an hour in a line that snake around the entire 3rd floor atrium. It was open dining, but if there wasn't enough room in the one dining room, perhaps they could have sent people to the other dining room. The food arrived warm and was generally good.. However, they served a seafood pasta, which was brought to the table with unopened mussels... really??!!?? No one should ever eat a clam or mussel that does not open after being cooked. The staff was exceptional. They all seemed happy and genuinely pleased to be of assistance, which I found amazing for people who are away from home for months at a time and work long hours. It was refreshing to find people striving to provide good service. This was true everywhere on the ship with the exception of the Casino. The staff there were totally uncaring. I was a good customer, tipping on top of the imposed tip. And within a few days I was to receive free drinks. I would go to the bar when I could not find a staff to help and sometimes the bartender would give me a drink and other times I was told to talk to the staff who delivered drinks. I asked a young man to bring my daughter and I each a drink. He brought one and never returned. I waited forty minutes went back to the bar and was again told to talk to the waitress. So, I went to a waitress and ordered a scotch with a side of water. She came after another hour and brought me a bourbon. I told her she brought the wrong drink and she asked if I wanted it. I told her to leave it and bring me a coke. I waited 1.5 hours, she never came back. Then the young man showed up... 2.5 hours later and asked if I wanted the club soda he forgot to bring the first time!!!! I told him no, but I would love a coke. He did manage to bring that within 20 minutes. Through this experience I never showed my frustration, I was extremely polite because I felt their inability to.provide service was most likely a management issue. On Feb 9th, the music was so loud and pounding I left with a headache after 20 minutes. Other people were complaining and they would turn it down a little and then work the sound level up within a couple minutes, totally disrespecting customers desires. The entertainment was interesting. The smaller group activities seemed good, but the stage performances were similar to the casino music on the 9th. At sometime the performers must have been told that being loud made up for quality. Actually, the performers seemed to have fairly good voices, but the music was so loud it was overwhelming and made it difficult to hear the singing. It was the same group every night.with the lead doing the vast majority of the songs. He could have shared the limelight. The comedy acts were generally really good and enjoyable. Patrick, in the piano bar was excellent to get the crowd participation. I was worried that he would pass out from the amount he was drinking. Drinking was part of his act. We only went on one excursion in Cozumal and it was wonderful.. Everything about it, including the guide, Diego. We went to see and interact with the Dolphins. It was a perfect day. The spa was perhaps my biggest disappointment. Not the massages. They were perfect. But my daughter and I joined the Spa that allowed us to use the steam rooms, saunas, and the Therapy Spa. That was the disappointing part. The first day I let them know that the Aroma Room had no aroma, no Eucalyptus or Lemon, which was one of the main reasons I joined. By the third day other customers were talking about it. I went again to the desk and was told they had run out...?? The same was true of the Therapy pool. It was to have Salt water and special minerals, this was the second reason I sign up and paid $300 for the experience for my daughter and myself. The whirlpools on the decks at least had salt water!!! Also, there were no minerals, you can smell and taste the minerals, just as you do the salt in the water. I also noted there was no chlorine and I got an infection which I believe was caused from the untreated spa. Last September, when we went on a Carnival cruise they asked us to complete a survey. They didn't this time. Maybe they didn't want to know. I had planned to do cruises every 3 months, but I have decided that this may be my last cruise. Read Less

1) because my brother and his wife have never cruised before. 2) the price 3) where it was going. 4) because my brother and his wife still like to party. Carnival seems more like a party type atmosphere. The staff was wonderful from our room steward Wayan to our dinner stall Dede, Ignatius, and Polett. to the staff in cloud-9. spent the day in New Orleans before embarkation. Embarkation went very smoothly ( great job) our cabin 7203 is classified interior, but has a window. It is interior with a picture(walkway view). It was our highest level yet. and a good choice. they do sell out fast. we enjoyed most of our dinning I was disappointed in the main buffet, but like the other 3 buffet or was it 4? guy burgers was very good, the pasta bella was not a buffet, but a sit down where you place an order and drop it off at the head of serving line and then go sit down and they deliver it piping hot as you ordered. a don't miss if you travel on the Dream. Main dinning room was very good. the chef's table was an outstanding experience. It di cost extra, but we thought it well worth it. the shows in the encore lounge were to mush like Vegas style and loud. we like more Broadway style performances. disembarkation went very smooth also. It's the best vacation we had so far, our family really enjoyed the whole trip. wonderful food, enough entertainment for all the age groups, real professional staff are in store for all. My kids are ready to take one more cruise immediately. Our time is well spent for three days, age groups wise programs in circle-C are very good. we had a family golf for the first time on the top deck, it's a pleasant time on the sea. I would suggest every one to take the cruise at least once to get the wonderful experience. Improvement opportunity is to add more Indian/Veg food and make the photographs a bit reasonable for every one to buy more. Shoreline excursion is a bit disappointment, we could not get the expected experience at La bufadora, geyser height is very less and the flea market is boring and not at all interested with the low quality products. Our Cabin had to be cleaned before we unpacked (clumps of hair on shower walls, stained carpet, pink splatters on walls and ceiling) Regular food was mediocre but we also had a Vegan with us and their idea of accommodation was to ask her each night which of the side dishes from the other meals she wanted. The featured vegetarian meal was the same Indian food all 7 nights. Some the lunch restaurants have options such as a taco salad or veggie burger but they are not printed anywhere and you might only know about it until day 5 when you hear someone else in line ask for it. The specialty restaurants such as BBQ, Mexican, Burgers, Indian, Asian, Pasta are only open for lunch. Our group spent over $1,000 in the spa and they were slow, rude and not helpful on at least 5 different visits. You could not even leave the spa without waiting for the one person working the desk to complete a 10 minute sales pitch for someone else since you had to get your room key back from her. They have a cart with signs that let you pick your own ingredients for a self body scrub. When you ask the spa attendant how you use this service (that we paid for) she went in back and brought out a chocolate mint scrub. When we asked about the sign that tells you to pick your own ingredients, she said they don't do that and she went in back again and brought a second scrub option. I was charged for someone elses drinks one evening in the lounge and customer service took it off only to add it back on a day later. Over 60% of the ships daytime activities are based on getting more money out of you. (spa seminars, jewelry events, sales, auctions, photos, casino, yoga classes, ...) The ship's layout blocks sections of the ship on several of the activity and dining decks so you have to change floors, walk to the other section of the ship and then go back to the floor where you wanted to go. I don't know if this is Carnival or just this one ship but we will choose a different cruise line next time. Read Less

the port for embarkation was not organized, no one seemed to know what to do and did not get the priority people on board in a timely manner like being herded the disembarkation to Cabo was total chaos kept calling more people down befor even had 1st group off the ship not enough tenders no one seemed to know what they were doing nor did they know how to accomplish the goal of getting folks off the ship in an orderly fashion the massages were great - very relaxing and very helpful for detoxing and for exfoliating and for stress reduction - did not appreciate always tying to sell the products at a very inflated price Loved the sauna room and the steam room appreciated the lemon and the orange flavored water in the relaxation room the cabin was quit good, always kept neat & clean able to rest in the room load speaker was not piped into room except for wen having safety drill. From the beginning of the cruise we were greeted and made well to be at home. My stateroom steward AGUS made sure we had all the things we need when ever we called. I enjoyed that he learned all our names. His team was fabulous with keeping the rooms on point. I was super impressed with FLICK the show. It was totally live awesomeness. The cruise Director Dr. E has tons of energy. He made all the events he was in funny, watchable and want to participate with him and the crew. This year I participated in the trivia and shows. It was delightful. Some of the trivia I did not agree with the answers but it was indeed fun and a learning experience. The service on the Lido deck was impeccable. Everyone was friendly, the food was top notch and the wide variety of choices blew me away each time I get upon a carnival cruise ship. I stayed on the ship so I could not comment on the ports and shore excursions. The clue game was awesome, I just could never to get the places on time and ended up having to ask people who where standing around in the areas what was the clue. That was totally a fun game. I attended a few of Mr. boddy's dance classes. I learn a bit of Latin dancing. For dinner I could not get use to the late night dinning of 8:15pm I disliked it because the major events that was happening on the ship was going on when I had dinning hour. I missed out on many deck 10 events that were for everyone. My servers were super fantastic they were Nova, Iwannva, and I Made. They worked their butts off. Definitely a delight every evening. They carried on conversation like they knew us for years. Very attentive. I appreciate all them and their hard work. The Cucina del Capitano should be advertised more. The food was delightful. I appreciated Melissa for giving more information about the restaurant. I truly enjoyed dinning in there. My next time on the magic I going to make it a point to have at least 2 nights there. Guys the food is in abundance. Large portions. I could not eat it all. I tried to get some of my leftovers reheated but I was told by guess services that they did not reheat food. we were celebrating my mom's birthday and they brought her out a cake and all. It was too special. For the morning that they had stretching at 7 a.m. It was totally a delight.. after all the dancing at night a good early morning stretch of muscles did just the good feeling in the muscles. Overall I have few concerns that bothered me, so I'd definitely go again on the Carnival Magic. Oh word for everyone, don't pack so much. It seems you leave with more than you took any. might want to bring a suitcase that just completely empty for trinkets and tools and gifts you may bring back from your trip. Read Less

NIce ship - Think PINK! Did not have a Red Frog Pub or Guy's Burgers but did not seem to miss it too much. Food was very good with enough of a variety. The main pool on Lido Deck had a retractable roof that came in handy a couple of evenings with rain. Guests were still able to sit out on deck and watch the Dive In movies. Loved the adult pool in the aft. Beautiful view off the aft while sunning with adults only and just steps away from the bars and buffet. The staff on this ship were extremely friendly and tried to learn your name to address you at a later time. Everyone was very accommodating to just about anything you could ever wish for. Very nice ship. We would definitely sail on the Splendor again in the future. The Cruise Director Matey was very personable and very much accessible to all guests. Read Less

Checked in was fast especially that we arrived 2 hours before departure. The ship is very clean, organized and orderly. Excursions: Plenty to choose from except The "Chichen Itza in Conzumel. The tour is 8 hours but the drive itself is over 4 hours in total and you only have 45-50 minutes to see the ruins itself. They need to improvise the time frame on this tour. Juan the tour guide was very nice and informative. Had a sense of humor to keep us awake on the bus back an forth. Ship's Staffs were very nice and friendly. Service was superb. Special thank you to the staffs who were very accommodating: Station 205 Golden Restaurant ( Sabby; Kharen Joy; Wayan; Kathryne) Suparjono and Harley Mar who kept our cabin nice and clean everyday Netzchiel who accommodated our special request of "off the list" menu for dinner on the last night of our cruise, was extremely kind of the "CHEFS" to make our request possible. A shout out for them!!! The food was great! Special thanks to "Mario" (First officer?) who came to dance with me beautifully. Very professional and respectful, he sure can salsa! Gym was clean Formal photo nights were great. Photographers were professional. Stationed at different places preventing traffic congestion. Thank you so very much guys for making our cruise memorable and enjoyable. Flaws/issues: Toilet won't flush right away all the time. Nightly shows (Amber room): Average. Just mostly singing groupies. If your cabin is below or above the entertainment room, the noise is unforgiving if you're trying to rest or sleep. Latin club: Need improvement on their music. 98% of the music they played were salsa and meringues only. Gets boring quickly. Spa products: I bought "elemis cream, was told that it was returnable if I ever have a problem. They gave me the run around and "no return" answer 2 days later when I developed an allergic reaction. Had to ask for the Supervisor to resolved the issue. Wifi is very slow and could take 2 days or more to access. Night club (white heat)- was undesirable. They could play better music, less raps would be wonderful. Decors were Gothic like. They need to have "Filipino band/s" on some station and less acoustic players. Overall, the food, staffs , cleanliness and service were "SUPERB" Read Less

This ship was recommended to us because it was a new and the itinerary is what we were looking for. We have been on other ships with Carnival that we liked better. A lot of the rooms(bars, etc) and pools were not big enough to hold the number of people that were on this ship. The serenity area was nice, but it was hard to find a place to sit unless you got there early. The decor of the ship was just so so. We did not care for the colors. That being said, we thought the dining room food, the steak house, guys burgers, Seafood shack, and the guys pig and anchor were delicious. We didn't care for the blueiguana. I loved where we were on the ship. We had a room on the 14th level and it was close to everything. Balconies are smaller, but still had a great time. The service for the rooms was excellent and also in the dining areas. They need more people for the bars however. Always had to wait for a drink. Never had that problem before on a cruise ship. The dive in movies and the imax theaters were a lot of fun. We did two excursions. We had booked these months ahead of time. The first one that we were suppose to go on was the dune buggy. When we arrived at the meeting area the person in charge(I think his name was George) said our bus had already left. We were so upset since we had been planning it for months. He said they sent a memo to our room which I told him no they didn't. He said he would put us on something else and give us 20% off whatever we choose, but we were not dressed for the beach so we ended up zip lining. It ended up being a lot of fun and George was very helpful and professional. We went to the excursion desk later to express our disappointment and they ended giving us another 30% off the next excursion we had booked which was the snorkeling and segway in Aruba. I recommend both excursions. We enjoyed every island. We just shopped in Curacao. We didn't get to Grand Turk because of the hurricane. We didn't go see any shows. We would sit and listen to the singers and Violinist. Lenox lusts, string classics and Tom Hanson were great to kick back and enjoy. The casino was way to smokey. They need more ventilation there. All in all we enjoyed the cruise but new doesn't mean better. I would go back to the smaller and older ships. Read Less

My family decided to take a cruise for the first time during 8/21-8/26 a time when we didn't put much thought into having one of the worst hurricanes to hit Houston in a 100 years be the week we were to take our vacation. On that note we were beyond disbelief when we got word that there would be a hurricane headed straight for the Houston when we awoke to begin the first day of our 5 day cruise. We went about our cruise with all the expectations that the storm would be finished by the time we got back to the Port of Galveston on Saturday, well when a hurricane comes to the state of your port all bets are off that you will return on time. I have to say we weren't thrilled as you can imagine that we may be at sea for a few more days which turned in to an additional 7 more days but we just wanted to make sure that we would be safe, so it didn't matter much and we stuck it out. First and foremost I have to give Captain Rocco Lubrano and Captain Salvatore Messina our deepest thanks for doing everything right to keep us out of harms way of the storm. Second to our cabin steward I-Mate who took great care of our cabins during the 12 day duration. Third my family and I spent a large part of our cruise in the casino and this is where we received the most of our enjoyment from the staff that took all the thoughts of any disaster that may be going on back home far from our minds. I have to say we received 5 star treatment from al everyone one that was on the casino staff Kyle, Euvey, Enola, Regina, Kasigo, YuTing, Robert, Vladen, Menzi, Ricardo (El Chapo), Lee, Yolanda. I have to say because of my circumstances with my business in Houston I don't take vacations as often as I would like but this one will be one of the ages that I will cherish and hold in my heart for the rest of my life thanks to the fine people on your staff. Thank you Carnival for all the joy you provided for my family and the memories we will hold dear to our hearts forever. Read Less
