The cruise itself was great! We embarked in Charleston, SC, with the families of my wife's two sisters. Having spent 22 years in the Navy, most of them on submarines, I was definitely looking forward to going to sea without having to stand watch or handle the mooring lines. The ship was an hour late arriving, so the boarding was delayed. The check-in could have been longer, but my wife's younger sister was friends with one of the officials , so we ended up with VIP boarding, which put us ahead of a V E R Y long line. The ramp up to the ship was exceedingly long for my wife, who had knee surgery a little over 6 weeks previously, and her older sister, but it was no real problem for the rest of us. Once we were aboard, the crew was more than polite. All of our luggage arrived after the required abandon ship familiarization drill. The briefing was handled very professionally by the crew. We then went to dinner as the ship got underway. Our waitress in the Jubilee dining room, Jane, was superb.he wait staff was superb. The food was fantastic. Our stateroom was three times the size of the stateroom I had while I was stationed on the submarine tender in Scotland! The layout of the ship was quite interesting. We spent the first night and the entire first day at sea exploring the ship and all of the fun things to do. You were NEVER in need of food or drink. There was always the pizza bar if everything else was closed and if you needed a libation, there was a bar nearby or a waiter ready to take your order. There was a schedule provided every day of activites onboard. My wife and I went to a presentation by the ship's shopping guru concerning the available deals in the upcoming ports of call. Amanda was wonderful! She provided information on most of the hotspots where deals were available and fun spots to check out. There were art auctions, comedy shows, karioke (?), trivia contests, and other events available almost around the clock. The Cruise Director kept the agenda full, but there was no pressure to attend any event. You could go to any event or you could take a dip in the pool, sit in a hot tub (3 of them), get some sun, plat putt-putt, go to the spa, get your hair done, anything you could imagine! We stopped in Freeport, Bahamas, and took a 20 minute taxi ride into town. There was a small shopping area. The weather was warm and a bit humid. There were a few good deals. Our next stop was Key West, FL. This was a very special stop for me. I was born there!! My Dad was in the Navy. The last time I was there was when I was in the first grade, some 51 years previous, and I was at the northern end of the island. We took the Hop-On, Hop-Off trolley tour. I recommend this to everyone. On this tour, you see the same things you see on the other tours, but you can get off at certain spots, like the southern-most point of the U.S., Hemingway's house, etc., and catch the next trolley which comes by every 15 - 20 minutes. The other tours you must stay on the entire tour and then walk to the attractions you saw from the original start of the tour. My two favorite places were Jimmy Buffet's Original Margaritaville and Hemingway's favorite hangout, Sloppy Joe's. Our next stop was Nassau, Bermuda. What a lovely place! A nice breeze, nice shopping beautiful scenery. I could almost live there. From here, you can take excursions to the Atlantis hotel. My sister-in-law went to swim with the dolphins and had a blast! My only complaint was the ship itself. There appeared to be a problem with the rudder linkages. The aft end of the ship shuddered constantly, no matter what speed we were at, though it was more pronounced at higher speeds. From 22 years of naval experience, this is normally due to improperly adjusted rudder linkages, allowing the rudder to "flop" from side to side, resulting in the side to side motion of the aft end of the ship. This resulted in dire sea-sickness of my wife and nephew and some sea-sickness of my sister-in-law and other nephew, as well as other passengers. This problem NEEDS to be rectified for the comfort of passengers. While it did not affect me and others, I am sure others would tell you a different story. Sincerely, Charles Vroman Read Less
