So we booked this cruise because a group of friends out of Charleston invited us to go on a cruise vacation with them. It has been years since we sailed with Carnival because we primarily sail Royal Caribbean. In fact, we just completed a RCL cruise less than 3 weeks ago. So I would say that we are very experienced cruisers. We did check out the reviews prior and we saw quite a few bad ones. Initially, we thought the reviewers were being nit picky or didn't understand how cruising works. Well.....the bad reviews were spot on. First, the parking sucks and not because it was $85. It was just an overall pain to park. When you get to the port, there is someone there checking to see if you have cruise documents. Then you are directed to another person a few feet away to actually check your documents. Then you go another few feet to some that inquires if you have your bags. If you do, then they put a sticker on your car. Then you are directed a few more feet to prepay the parking fee. Then you go a few more feet to be given bag tags to complete. Then you are directed to go to yet another person a few feet away who actually takes your bags to the ship. Then we follow the signs OUT of the parking lot then back INTO the parking lot to finally park. Never mind that this was a ridiculously tedious process. It was also very confusing with all of the red cones every where. The security process seems stricter than the airport. So be prepared to strip, be wanded down and patted down (I got all three) if your bra wire buzzes.... The boat is old. No surprises there. However, I was surprised how bored I was and how terrible the food was. Unless you like to spend money on drinks, tacky jewelry and overpriced art, there isn't much to do. Most people seemed to play cards with friends, hang out at the casino or just drink. It was too cool and rainy for the deck. There wasn't a lot of activities particularly during the day on sea days. I remember years ago having a blast on Carnival....no more. The food was terrible. It was either over cooked or undercooked. It was bland most of the time. We ate in the main dining room most days and we couldn't find anything appetizing to eat. This was not the experience that we had in the past. This is probably the first cruise where I didn't gain weight. The smokers were everywhere on this cruise. It was difficult to find places to breath in fresh air. The positives were that the stateroom attendant knew my name from the very first day and called us by name every time he saw us. Every night we had cute little towel animals in out room. The waiters during dinner worked very hard to make up for the lackluster food. If I wasn't happy (or anyone in our 20 member group), they would make recommendations and bring other items. The food just sucked... After this experience, I will never take a cruise out of Charleston or take Carnival again. Read Less

My wife and I spent our 30 year anniversary on this cruise. We had such a great time. The food was great, Guest services was awesome. We had our photos taken all about the ship. Comedy shows were great. The Magic show was more of a comedy magic entertainment. Non-Stop entertainment by the pool. Great Food 24/7. Formal dining was very elegant and fun. If your not into formal dining, there were buffet lines with a wide variety of foods and desert. Seaside cabin with a great view of the ocean was very clean. When we returned to our cabin after dinner, we were greeted with a different towel animal placed our bed each night. All of our excursions went well. Parasailing in Nassau, Swim with and feed the sting rays in Half moon Cay was WOW! In Grand Turk, I heard there was a strike from the "water" tours. (Chucka) I think was the tour company that went on strike. That port we just happened to schedule a land/sight seeing/food tour, so we lucked out. Great tour and good food. Went swimming at the beach afterward. Not that we needed it but, there was even day care for those with little ones. Embarkation and Disembarking was expedient. Summary; JUST DO IT! Read Less

Twenty two friends and relatives taking a cruise together can only be a fun time! Overall the ship was fine. It is an older ship that they are replacing in October I believe of this year. The staff was friendly and helpful. The safety drill was long and drawn out and tedious and not at all practical if there were an emergency on the ship. We didn't put on the life vest and make our way on deck like I had on previous trips on other ships so it was strange. I kept thinking most of the passengers won't have a clue if something really bad were to happen. The accommodations were good with the usual linens and decorations but could have been cleaner in the bathroom. I kept wanting to wipe all the walls of my bathroom down, they had hair spray spots (I hope that's what they were) from previous guests. Our stewards were very nice and accommodating. We used many of the services on the ship. Friends who got massage therapy went back for second treatments and were very happy with the service. Friends who used the gym said it was good. We played games of putt putt and used the walking track to burn off the meals that were good. The food was good for the most part. The 24 hour pizza bar is awesome and the pizza maker was so nice to talk to. My mom loved the sandwich deli as an option to the regular lunch buffets. The seating we had in the main dining room was located right next to where they bring all the dishes so it was extremely loud and disruptive. We had a ten top table with an eight top table next to each other so we could visit while we dined but the noise was really disruptive to the dining experience. The bars on the ship all had friendly waitstaff and the drink specials were good. Friends who bought the drink packages NEVER used them totally. I don't know if they saved any money buying them. You get free drinks in the casino after you earn so many credits so I think that's where they spent more than they had to. The casino was fun. The comedy shows were good. There was one great comic that was hysterical and the other one, not so much. The disco was hopping and we all had fun in there also. The pools are small and crowded but you find everyone is just having a good time and you can always find a chair to sit in and watch people go by having fun. The shore excursions our friends purchased they said were all fun. Beach trips, snorkeling, etc. Everyone had a great time. The ports on this trip don't offer much to do besides souvenir shopping and beach time. A group of us grabbed a taxi in Freeport to Port Lucaya to shop and eat. It was a pretty area to walk around with a Casino nearby. On the way back to the ship we stopped at Senor Frogs to get some internet service but it was too slow to use. Ended up having a great time though with good food, drinks and lots of music and entertainment! On Nassau we had a mission to make a meeting at Weight Watchers and ended up getting a cab for $12 a person to drive us to it. It had moved and the driver began a search that lead us to three different places so we saw a good bit of the eastern side of the island. There wasn't much to see. We gave him extra for his effort and on the trip if he knew a bit of the history or who owned a certain house he would narrate for us. It was a fun day. Getting off the ship went quickly with us carrying our own bags, a bit longer for those who opted to have the bags brought out for them. It was a good cruise for a good price. It was also the sixth one I'd been on and the first on Carnival. Read Less

I loved this cruise!!! I loved the starting horn, the gym, the food, the rooms, and the entertainment, the fun activity's, the camp. The food was really really really good. We could explore, and this and that. The cabins had a bunk bed, it was so comfy, it is a clean cruise, and there is a really nice window. The activity's in the camp were really fun and awesome, the gym is good, and the swimming pool. The shows in the theater were awesome, and the food was too good. The cruise was spotless and clean. The games and everything was so good. The library, the deck, the starting horn, the deck, the carnival logo on the deck. Exploring the cruise and running around it was fun, and the running of the cruise was fun. The room key was really good and fun. And the shopping area's were good. I also loved the ports outside, they were really fun too Read Less

I recently went on the 5 day cruise with 19 people and we had a blast ! The crew workers work non stop to make the people happy! The Food was good but it did mess with my stomach I'm guessing where I'm not use to eating that food! The Staff was awesome but I did have one at the pizza place that gave me a hard time. I had a beer in my hand sliding it on the table when I moved it their was a groove in the table that i didn't see and my beer spilled. TOTAL accident but he got the meanest look on his face and took him over thirty mins to clean it which I know they have to clean it good but he was being VERY sarcastic about it and then help other people while I was their still waiting for him to take my order. I never went back their again because that was VERY rude to me. Then we had a very loud DRUNK woman at the dinner table behind us that was getting lippy and talking about everyone at our table and no one did anything to her ( it was infront of her childern that was between 8 to 13 yrs old ) . Well we finally had to stand up and then came security and took out a person from our table instead on the woman that caused all the problems . You come on a ship to Have fun and enjoy not to be mean and destructive. Our waiters at the table where awesome and our outside waiter was great also. All and all a great trip but had allot of us felt sick the last day. I was on deck 4 Rivera at the very back of the ship and the room was great, but it seemed ever time I went down their their was a very strong feces smell coming for either the rooms or where the sewage is on the back of the ship, And it is very nosey back their when the boat ports it sounds like the whole thing is about to cave in. I'm not hard to please but I will never get a room on the back of the ship.s the boat swaying so much or food ? But I wouldn't do the 5 day again I would rather go to a resort and get everything FREE instead of pay a outrageous price on the alcohol their .       Read Less

The Fantasy is a much nicer ship than we had expected based on her age. Nice and clean, refurbished well, and excellent food. But the best was the attitude of the crew who all were excited and wanted THIS cruise to be the best one yet for each and every person. Cabins were just fine with large windows and spacious, new bathrooms. The three ports were each fun and each different.. The hustle and bustle of Nassau, markets, horse and carriage, straw market, Atlantis, taxis for local sightseeing, easy to walk right off the boat and be in the town. Freeport was a little disappointing but only becuase this island is quite depressed..many half finished hotels, houses and shopping areas..the recession has really taken its toll on this once beautiful spot. You cannot walk off the ship and into the town..there is a small shopping area right at the dock which is fine for a few souvenirs, but take the shuttle for $5 each way and go to the Port Lucaya Marketplace, shop a while, then wander across the street to the One and Only and go down by the beach to the bar area to relax. Had our shuttle planned to pick us back up at 1pm (got there at 10am) and that was perfect. Some of our group took a driver and toured the island..$25 per person. Key West..of course it is a fun spot! Several train/trolleys to take you around the island and see some of the very attractive spots..old homes, historical areas, where some of the well known bars are, some good shopping and just plain fun to walk around in..good food and drink. Our favorite port. Back to the ship..very good food with many choices..if you want to you could have steak every night..good waiters and crew..made dinner a fun meal! Lunch in either one of the dining rooms or at the buffet depending on your time and preference..breakfastthe same..excellent dining room breakfast choices and a little less hectic than the buffet. The entertainment on the Fantasy was very good..the two full cast shows were excellent..get there early for seats though. Other nice shows on the other nights. This is a super value and you can't go wrong if you are just looking for a nice getaway and a chance to have some fun! Good for families, couples, singles or group trips...we will go back and take our grandchildren! Enjoy!   Read Less

Just returned from the Fantasy. I cruised with a group of girlfriends while our husbands had their annual Pinehurst golf trip. Having sailed over 20 times - I really had no high expectations - just wanted a fun get away. The Port of Charleston is so handy - I hope the "scheduled improvements by 2012" really happen. Let's just say there is a LOT of room for improvement. I arrived at 11:30 and was on the ship by noon.....my friends were a 1/2 hour behind me - but took over three hours to go through the process. I made new friends waiting in the Atrium Bar waiting for them to board (and discovered a great new drink..."Kiss on the LIPS"...(x3). The Muster Drill was unorganized - honestly - had the ship gone down - most passengers would have been clueless as to what to do....and most were first time cruisers. The have refurbished the Fantasy.....but after sailing so many of the new ships - I would not/could not suggest this cruise to anyone other than first time cruisers - or those who want an easy vacation (although not cheap - I've sailed many 7 night cruises with a balcony cheaper than this 5 night outside cost). I miss having a balcony - and will never sail without one again unless it's a FREE cruise. The Fantasy does not have many options for a balcony - unlike the newer ships. Casino & Bar service was good. Cabin and Food service was below average - at best.....and dining room service was very slow. Food quality - was - OK - but again...nothing like the quality on Princess, HAL, or even other Carnival ships. The chocolate melting cake was amazing though. Only one pool....small....and wall to wall people. Liked the "Adult-Only" Serenity area....no pool - but no kids....great place to read. However - they had two hot tubs there - and since it was quite hot, they were unused. Too Bad they couldn't have made one of the hot tubs a "cool water" tub....that would have been refreshing in the heat. I did not like the fact that I could only carry one bottle of wine on board....a new Carnival Policy. I have no problem paying the corkage fee in the dining room - but I prefer my own wine - I think their new policy stinks. We booked Pat & Diane's Desert Island tour in Freeport - on our own - and it was fantastic. Highly recommend. We booked the Atlantis Aqua-adventure and had a blast....would book both tours again. I hope Carnival (or someone) will bring a better ship - with a better itinerary Charleston....otherwise - looks like I'll be headed back to Fort Lauderdale in the future. Please understand - we had fun - anyone who can't have fun on a cruise is crazy....it just wasn't a "Ship of Dreams"...but it didn't sink either. Sandy Read Less
