Okay this is my second cruise. My first was 10 years ago on the Carnival Ecstasy. I booked this cruise 2 weeks out mostly because I wanted to experience a Fantasy class ship again and it was a port that you can drive to from Kansas. Yes this ship is old and yes she does show some signs of age but she is still a great value for the price and a good looking old ship. I stayed in cabin R3 its a porthole room on the bottom passenger deck. It was a great room! Super big and the portholes offered good light and the same price as an interior. My Steward Budi was awesome. He serviced my room twice a day as I asked and also made sure I always had ice. The food on the ship was great! Everything I ordered in the MDR was cooked how I liked and tasted very good. Service was slow at times but for the most part it was a very good experience. Lines for things like Guys and Blue Iguana were always manageable and not to long. The shows on the ship were very good. Motor City was the best of the shows but all were good. The playlist staff does a really awesome job. The comedy club had some great guys in the there and were very funny and interactive with the crowd. Read Less

Our summer vacation this year was booked on the Carnival Fantasy July 8th -13th. We sailed out of Mobile, Alabama to Cozumel and Costa Maya. We spent most of our days at the water slides with the kids and laying out. The main pool was very tiny and people were packed like sardines in it...to close for comfort for me! Our first night dinner was in the Celebration dining room and the food was horrible. It took 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive at our table, bread was served without butter(15 minutes for that to arrive) and over an hour for our main meal. My kids ordered the steak and there was so much fat throughout I couldn’t even cut it with a knife. They ended up just eating their appetizer and dessert for dinner. I actually left the dining room and walked down to the main bar to get our second drink order and to inquire at guest services why it was taking over an hour for our meal. The dining room was not busy and had empty tables everywhere. The couple behind us experienced the same issues. By the 4th night I was getting sick of eating the same thing for dinner...they don’t really change the menu. I decided to pay an extra $20 and ordered the filet and lobster. The filet was average and lobster was rubber...I would not recommend spending the extra money. We visited the spa several times throughout our cruise. My daughter and niece got pedicures and the ladies did such a good job I made an appointment for myself and my husband. The spa was running a special for a back/neck/foot massage with hot stone for 89.99 per person. I decided to take advantage and scheduled myself, daughter and niece. The massage was supposed to last for 50 minutes but only lasted 30...a little disappointed but it was a good massage. We also visited the Casino two nights but the cigarette smoke was so bad and no one was walking around taking drink orders so we didn’t stay long. We didn’t end up winning any money but still had fun. The kids played in the arcade a few nights but it was a little pricey. We had three kids with us and each game was $2.00. We were in room E321 and it looked as if the room had not been updated since 1990. We had black mold around our sink, toilet was dirty, fingerprints all over the doors and walls and dirt/dust on carpets. Our air conditioner in the room was working great up until the last two days. There were five of us in the room so we had to request a cot for my 10 year old. This room was the same size room we had last year but we only had four people in it. They basically charged us for five people and never increased the size of our room. The cot was actually a toddler bed so my sons feet hung off the end of it. Our steward was very friendly but not very efficient. He would clean our room and collect the pool/bath towels but never replace the pool towels. We had to call every morning to ask for new towels and were told we couldn’t get any until 8:30 am. Our other option was to head to the main pool area and sign them out. We got off the boat in Cozumel and Costa Maya for a few hours. It was nothing great just a lot of people trying to sell dollar store items. I would never go back again. We were a little leary about eating off the boat so we had bottled water/bottled Heineken and walked around for a little. Thursday evening Hurricane Barry rolled in and it was all downhill after that. We were told the port in Mobile was closed but for whatever reason the captain decided we were going to head there anyway( safety of the guests on board didn’t come into play on that decision) We were due to get off the boat Saturday morning at 8:00 am and the next guests were due to board at 11:00 am Saturday. All day Friday the boat was really rocking. We were eating lunch and the whole display of deserts and plates fell off the counter. It got worse Friday night. There were broken wine glasses on the floor people slamming into the walls and service carts falling over along with pop cans and glasses scattered throughout the hallways. People were throwing up EVERYWHERE! My niece actually stepped in one pile of throw up trying to make it back to our room. My kids were absolutely terrified and crying thinking that they were going to die. I went to guest service to ask what was going on and why we were driving through the storm if the port was closed. They could have cared less! All three workers behind the counter were dancing and singing while the music was playing at the main bar. I asked them to send someone to clean up the pile of puke that was in our hallway but that never happened, it was still there the next day. Saturday we were supposed to get off the boat but the port was still closed. Long story short we ended up having to go back out to sea and forced to spend another night on the boat. We got off the boat Sunday morning and header home but the curse of our vacation doesn’t end there. My daughter got severely sick Monday evening. She could not eat or drink anything without throwing up. She ended up being admitted to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for what they say is an unknown virus and dehydration. We were interviewed by the center for disease control while there. It has now been 5 days since we have been off the boat and she is still running a high fever, can’t eat and sleeps all day. We are due to follow up with her pediatrician in three days. I plan to email Carnival regarding the cleanliness of the ship and inquire if anyone else has reported a illness. I am also contacting the local health department in my area to see how I go about reporting this. Update: carnival contacted me and offered me $100.00 credit...what a joke! My husband had to miss 2 days of work and I had to miss 1 day. This will be our last cruise!! I have photos of the puke in hallways, rain pouring in from the stairways when we were stuck in the hurricane, mold in the bathroom and fatty steak. I can’t load them from my phone but plan to post them on other review sites for carnival. Read Less

My family chose this cruise due to the Mobile port location and timing. We were able to get onto the ship quickly with the faster to the fun program. Upon boarding the ship at 12:30pm our cabin was ready as promised and we were able to place our bags into the cabin and tour the ship. Although the ship has a lot of age, it has been maintained very well. The staff is constantly cleaning it on all levels and it was kept clean throughout our voyage. The dining room staff was outstanding along with the dining room food. We also ate in the dining room for brunch on most days and the food was excellent as well. Our room attendant, Arifin did a great job and learned all our names from day 1. We had great weather throughout the cruise and although the ship was at capacity it did not feel overcrowded. The day in Cozumel went smooth. All in all it was one of the best cruises we have been on especially for the cost. Read Less

Our family of 8 chose to take the Carnival Fantasy because it was the closest port by car from our home. We have cruised with Carnival before (Victory and Vista) so we had an idea what to expect and most of our experience was similar to prior cruises. The cruise director (Paully) and table artist in the Celebration dining room (Rakin) were two standouts in our mind but the whole staff was enjoyable with only a couple exceptions. Our four kids (3, 6, 9 and 15) used all four Camp Ocean areas. They loved their experience and were asking to go to their camp rooms every day. They bonded well with the staff including our three-year old who is normally terrified of being left with strangers. The water slides that were added in January 2019 make a wonderful addition for the kids. Otherwise the pool is too small, too shallow and too full of adults for kids to really have fun in it and there are no other outdoor water options on the ship for kids. Also, there is no outdoor movie screen so movies are held in the same room where the comedy routines are delivered (at different times obviously). The Build a Bear workshop was really fun and well done and didn't really cost more than in a mall on land. For our three kids that did the workshop the cost averaged $37 per animal. Food was predictable but there are no specialty restaurants like Fahrenheit 555 on this ship. Dining food in the evening was much better with steak and seafood options and unusual appetizers for the adventurous each night like braised rabbit, frog legs and oxen tongue. Guy's Burger Joint was awesome and we hit that up frequently. Otherwise the Lido dining for breakfast and lunch felt like eating at Golden Corral and the wait at the Pizza Pirate is unacceptable especially for the poor quality of the product. The arcade was disappointing. There were 19 total machines and 13 of them were games of chance and claw machines where one tries to win impossible prizes like a PS4 or Apple iPhone. The arcade is a very small area tucked in a corner and seemed like an afterthought to us. The six "kid games" were air hockey, a solo racing game, a team dinosaur shooting game, a superhero game where you can win collector cards, a Halo team shooting game, and a 3D ride simulator. The shore excursions we selected were amazing! Probably the best we've experienced in five cruises. In Costa Maya we went to the Lost Mayan Kingdom which was extremely well run and had enough water slides and zip line activities to keep all our kids ages 3 to 20 fully entertained. In Cozumel we chose the all inclusive Passion Island with our older kids taking the Twister speedboat and the rest of our family taking the powered catamaran. Just be aware it's a 40 to 50 minutes ride to the island but the food, drinks, sand, water and staff were incredible! Comedians were OK. Sometimes funny sometimes not. I enjoyed the PG shows better because sometimes comedians seem to lean too heavily on profanity in the R shows trying to be funny rather than coming up with genuinely witty, unique comedy. And where are the women comedians? The musicians and bands were very good - some of the better ones that we've experienced but they can change frequently so our experience may not apply to your cruise after a few months. Rooms were typical. We had two ocean view rooms Aft on deck 5. Aft is a convenient location to the Lido dining room, water slides, and Camp Ocean. Room service was good with our cabin steward creating some nice animal touches for our kids each day. The ship seemed to need more maintenance than usual. We noticed a lot of rust, many windows were so dirty we couldn't take a good picture out of them, one of the elevators in the atrium was broken the entire cruise and one of the elevators in the aft of the ship constantly said 'Maintenance' most ot the cruise although it seemed to work some of the time. Overall Fantasy is a good ship but not excellent and with two days at sea on their five-day cruise it can become challenging finding something new to do especially for the kids. If you live in Alabama, west Georgia or west Florida or east Mississippi the Mobile Cruise Terminal is a reasonable drive that makes this cruise worth considering. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it appeared to be affordable and we had 25 people going. It was a disaster from the get go. I can’t blame anything on our cabin stewards. They went above and beyond to help us out. Dining in the celebration dining room was great. Entertaining and a decent selection. They do NOT update menus online so do not rely on the app to be correct. I guess they look at what you spend to determine how to treat you. We booked the Cat In The Hat Breakfast as soon as we got on board. We were told to be at the 8:30. When we arrived we were told we were bumped to 9:45 because of overbooking. So we had two upset kids that we had to pacify for an hour. I will say the breakfast was worth the wait. I wouldn’t recommend Carnival or this ship for families. This would be a great party ship but the activities are not what I expected. Camp for the kids was basically 20 kids in a room with a play kitchen. My grandson hated it and didn’t want to go back. We had a handicapped room because my husband has hip and knee issues and needed it. The cabin was beside the service elevator so it was extremely LOUD all night. We were woken up at 2am nightly by crew singing in the service area. We also had a fire on the ship which caused a bit of drama. People wanted to get to their kids and couldn’t. I am sure carnival will hear more from them. Read Less

5 hours from Mobile so we drove down. Getting on and off the boat simple and easy in Mobile. It’s a nice big port with $70/5 day parking. Get a better ship in there it would be worth it. We chose this cruise because we wanted to take our 4 boys (10 to 17) and it was cheapest we found. The boys thought it was awesome, and for them it was, my wife and I not so much. But before I go further I do want to say that everyone was super nice and friendly. It was my first cruise and if it wasn’t for people I know that wouldn’t lie to me it would be my last. It was like staying in a musty ran down motel with excellent room service (if that makes sense), the king size bed was so uncomfortable that I was ready to take the frame out in the hall and lay the mattress on the floor. We paid for extra for an ocean view which landed us at the main back of the noisy ship but that was a WASTE because the window had not been cleaned in so long that you couldn’t be 100ft past the back of the ship. The food was ok the best was Guy Fieri burgers and the Blue Iguana was great. We ate lunch there and dined at ships restaurant it was ok fancy food cooked up and served with a smile but lacked variety and flavor I thought. And believe me I tried everything 6 people 4 being teenage boys can put some food away and I tried everything that we ordered. The entertainment was ok I enjoyed name that song, the live music at the bar and marriage game was halirious. Kevin wasss ssso over the top but he wassss funny I thought (If you know him you’ll get that). The shows were ok except for the Country Roads show it was terrible I thought. The ports were ok, Progreso that shops were in your face almost. Cozumel the boys swam with the nurse sharks and stingrays they had fun but they had never done anything like that but it’s was like a petting zoo in the ocean where you can touch it if your fast enough to corner it. I’ve found out that I just can’t afford to take 6 ppl on a cruise. I’ll find a resort, condo, time share or something else because the 5 days on the boat with the excursion was over 6K. I just read over this... Lol I sound like a hateful old man but one of the easiest going guys I know. I just excepted more and better Read Less

First time cruiser excited about seeing Cozumel. I knew beforehand smoking was allowed in the bars and the casino, but I did not know the whole ship would smell like an bar! The lounges and casino do not have physical doors, The entry is wide open and the second-hand smoke travels throughout the ship. I will never go on another cruise unless it is non-smoking or doors and ventilation is installed. Also, there were so many drunk people even though it was not spring break time. I saw one college girl vomit onto a towel on the Serenity deck. The pool was very small and i would never take children on the cruise since there is such a drinking/partying atmosphere. I saw many, many women in the hallways and hamburger restaurant in only bikinis. Appropriate cover-ups were not enforced. The ship was clean and our dining room waiters Eric and Jorge were fantastic. It was hard to find your way around especially since the stairs are not labeled and you never knew which floor you were on. Floor level signs would have been a huge improvement. The onboard entertainment is what I would call cheesy. The bingo was $40 for three bingo cards and lasted less than 10 minutes of actual calling time. The website lists many restaurants, but in reality most of them were in the same cafeteria and each area was labeled as a separate restaurant. For example the ice cream machine was given a separate restaurant name. The coffee shop and sushi counter seemed to be tucked away in a small out of the way area and hard to find. The jewelry and pictures were pushed heavily. The pictures taken were displayed haphazardly and were moved around so much you could not keep up with your pictures to purchase. Read Less

We were looking for a 5 day Carnival cruise that left out of Mobile, AL. The Carnival Fantasy is a lady showing her age and while we were onboard the crew were doing some serious repairs and updates. The 3rd day into the cruise they closed the Blue Iguana Bar and were sanding and adding a fresh coat of varnish. There were several days we saw crew members carrying very large sections of hand rail somewhere. Some outside decks were closed because they were working on them. We heard power tools going most of the days while we were outside. The cabin was small and had a slight musty odor to it, but overall was clean and our steward "Hammie" was Excellent. The bar staff and the food staff were also Excellent and attentive. Ely at the Red Frog Rum Bar was our favorite bartender on board. She was always pleasant and we enjoyed speaking with her. Richard who was a bar server in the Lido restaurant and the Serenity Lounge always had a smile and greeted us by name no matter where he saw us on the ship. Eka who was a server on the Lido deck from the Red Frog Rum Bar took Excellent care of us and checked with us frequently to make sure we were okay. The food was okay. Pizza Pirate was good, the soft serve ice cream and yogurt are always enjoyable. The food on the Carnival Dream was better than on the Fantasy and due to the size of the ship you don't have as many choices. Guys Burgers are good, usually the longest line for food, but they are quick and you don't ever have to wait too long. The food at the Blue Iguana Cantina is also good and we ate there several times. The first and last day of our cruise were cold and windy so we never tried the water slides, although my wife did cool off in one of the fountains on our 4th day, while we were in Cozumel. Our 13 year old son liked the Carnival Dream better as it was larger and had more things for him to do. The entertainment was pretty good. The DJ needs to learn this isn't the 1920's and we don't enjoy listening to 1920's jazz music all the time. The deck parties were nice, they had one night that was 90's music and we enjoyed that. We paid for Faster to the Fun this cruise and I would say it was well worth it, especially for Embarkation. We were suppose to have priority Debarkation, but as usual no one follows instructions and people were just trying to leave the ship as fast as they can. Carnival really needs to figure out how to improve the Debarkation process. Read Less

We were on a specialty themed cruise, but because it wasn't a full charter we had the experience of both the charter & the Fantasy's normal trip. We had 2 adults & 2 children, the youngest being 4, so the smaller ship could not have worked out better for us!! We had a room on the 6th deck at the back of the boat. Above us were the kids club, dining room, and pool level buffet. This made it so convenient!! The kids club was AMAZING!! the staff were so sweet, they constantly had something going on for the kids, and I felt really good about my girls being there. We dropped them off at night after dinner and would pick them up on the way to bed. So convenient and really gave my husband and i the chance to enjoy ourselves at night without any guilt. The rest of the staff on board were amazing as well! not a single rude comment or annoyed face. We were well aware this was an older ship, but didn't lack for anything we needed. I tend to be of the thought that unless you are spending a fortune on a vacation, you have to know that there are some compromises to be made, but that the vacation becomes what you make of it. We didn't want for anything, we didn't feel like we missed anything, the biggest complaint i have is that because it's a smaller ship, there's less staff so sometimes the wait for a drink at the pool bars were a bit long (somehow i survived tho!) The shower pressure in the cabin made for the best shower ive ever had! the rooms were what we expected, and just big enough for comfort. The tv remote was a bit weird as the volume & channel buttons didn't always work, but this was for 1am tv before falling asleep. We had a blast in the casino & bar next to it, they constantly had activities going on inside & outside, and getting on and off at cozumel was quick & easy. we've decided were only going to cruise from now on as its so much easier with 2 kids!!! no cooking, cleaning, and finding something for them to do as its all taken care of. Weve begun planning out next Carnival Cruise for this fall :) Read Less

Port is with in an hour drive from our home. Destination was not important as we have been there before. Our purpose was to relax for next five days. We mostly eat at anytime dinning at Celebrity Restaurant. The staff there were excellent. Young man named Kris took care of us. Coinsurer staff was very proficient and remembered our names. Buffett was ok but lots of people eating too much food, kind of turned us off. We did splurged by signing up for Chef's Table . It was $ 75. / person. Included all the wine you wanted to drink . Fantastic service and kind of creative, rich food was served. We were 12 people only and eat at Library. Chef Roy explained and introduced all food we were served. Cruise Director Mardi was very knowledgeable and real professional. Every time we heard him at any event, he made us laugh. Don't miss Hairy Mans contest. Also don't miss Country Dynamic Duo close to Casino. Some of the Karaoke singers were great. Piano bar, was bit small. Our cabin Stewart kept our room clean. We did our own excursion in Progresso. The town of Merida was very clean and beautiful. Did not look like Mexico. We walked around in Cozumel. This ship had a nice water slide for young kids and activities for them. I do not know how we can pay so little money for 5 days of lodging, 3 full meals each day, and all the entertainment. Most of the staff were foreign and were very courteous. We left additional tip for few of them in addition to what the Ship charged. It was nice and well worth the money vacation. Parked our car in their garage at the cost of $ 90.00. Read Less

I'll break this review into two parts, (1) the good, and (2) the criticism: The good: - Service. The service and staff were amazing. Friendly, engaging, great with our children, and overall professionals. - Camp Ocean. The camp ocean children servoces were great. We feel bad about placing our children in these types of settings; however, after their first visit -- they wanted to go back. The staff were friendly, professional, and great with our 5 and 9 year old daughters. - Food. The food in the Main dining areas was incredible. We all tried exotic foods we'd never order in a restaurant (e.g., rabbit, escargot). The food was well prepared and the presentation was high end. - Disembarking. The Disembarking process was organized and speedy. - Cruise director and selling. The cruise director, Marty, was great. Unlike some of our other cruise experiences, there was little selling pressure. We enjoyed the freedom from pressure to buy or provide extra tips during the trip. Now for the criticism. To be clear, I'm trying to be fair given the age of the ship and factors in and out of the crew's control. - The ship. This is a nearly 30 year old ship, which obviously has undergone some upgrades over the years. Nevertheless, she's pretty worn. The dining areas are out of the late 1980s. There are areas of weather wear and corrosion. The outside areas are small and offer limited water space (e.g., spa, pool) given the passenger load. The port. This ships sails out of Mobile, AL. Embarkation was a nightmare. The parking area is at the end of a traffic funnel, situated on the far side of active railroad tracks. This made for wild traffic (nearly 2 hours). Entertainment. The venues on this ship are akin to a holiday inn meeting room. They're just not modern. The acts offered were well done, however. I'd like more variety, but it wasn't enough to really complain about. Smoking. This was the worst aspect of this ship. The casino and adjoining bar are mid ship, near the mid ship stairway and elevator bank. The ventilation is poor or non exisitant, making the entirety of the center of the ship a smelly, smoke-filled space (from deck 4 through to deck 9. For a family friendly ship, this was a major drawback. There was no escape from the smoke. Here are a few more obtuse items that the crew really couldn't control... But big carnaval could have done better. The arriving passengers were delayed a few hours due to fog. This delayed our boarding from 12pm to 6pm. The fog also delayed our embarkation ~24 hours. Interestingly, during the warmest and clearest part of the following day... we did not embark. Fantasy embarked closer to 3pm.... after the fog rolled back in heavy (heavier than the previous day and night). It was interesting we could leave the port in this heavy fog... but we did. In the end, our boarding was delayed half a day and we lost a port of call. Carnival refunded shore excursions and port fees. This was an unfortunate and frustrating experience. The passengers. Cruises tend to yield a good cross section of America and, inevitably, some drunks and jokers. For those more conservative parents, these aren't attractive attributes in close quarters. This was certainly true of this cruise. There were a fair share of drunks exposing a bit too much, dancing in what I believe they percieved as sexy, and throwing their children in the one pool everyone shared. Some of this was driven by games hosted by the cruise (e.g., hair chest competition... Where contestants had their chest hair pulled, naked torso smelled, and butt slapped by three lady strangers on stage). I'd sail Carnaval again... But not from Mobile or on Fantasy. Read Less

I chose Carnival because we have always had a great time, but this time with was Horrible! Words can not express how bad this was. To start we left 2 days before the cruise was to set sail because we were driving 16+ hours and wanted to make sure that if we had car trouble we would be able to make the ship on time. We had to drive though a snow storm to get there as well. The evening before our cruise was to set sail ( and we were now an hour away from Mobile) we got a call that due to a mechanical issue with the max speed they were not able to get the ship back to port on time from dry dock. Due to them being a day late they were going to cancel the stop in Progreso ( the port we wanted to go to to see the ruins) and then leave a day late. For this inconvenience we could cancel the trip with a full refund or if you wanted to still go you would get a day credit back and $50 on board credit. Well after driving for 16+ hours we decided to still go on the cruise. Big mistake! The first day the waves were so bad that the entire ship was sick including the crew. Come to find out from the crew the ship was late because of weather as well not just because of the max speed. Then we were late getting into Cozumel so our shore excursion time was bumped back to 12 instead of 10:30. We checked in at 11:45 and did not get to our destination until 12:30. The excursion was a 5 hour duration. We were told to be back at the taxi station at 3:45, but the facility closed at 3. So we came back to the ship when the facility closed. There was no reason for us to sit at the taxi station and stare at each other for 45 minutes. The pool and the higher decks were not open until Thursday (port day) and then Friday due to high winds. The night entertainment was supposed to be a sing and dance routine but because of the weather it was 4 people sitting on stage singing. On our other cruise we couldn't get the kids out of camp they were having so much fun. This time we couldn't get them to go to camp because they would get sick on the back of the boat or when they were feeling up to going all they were doing was watching movies. The food was ok. My melting cake was over cooked. The servers were there to take your order, leave your food and then they were never seen again. So you were not able to complain about the food order or get a different thing. We purchased the drink package and was not able to use it the first 2 days from being sick and when we did try to get a drink it took 20+ minutes to either wait to place your order or for the drink to be made. Staff would tell you wrong information or contradictory information to different people in our party. Times we printed wrong in the fun times. I could go on and on. When I got back home and called to voice my concerns all they told me was that they were going to look into the shore excursion and the rest they were going to keep for their records for future cruises. The took my number to call me back about the shore excursion. I called back 6 hours later to find out that the ships excursion director did email them back and said that the excursion went as planed pick up at 12 back to the ship at 5:30. I said that was not the way it happened and that I have a picture of the itinerary and the hours of the facility and they do not match. The gentleman I spoke with home the phone refused to transfer me to his supervisor and that his word was final. I will never recommend or go on another Carnival Cruise. Read Less

Let me start off by saying this, I am in no way sending this email to bash Carnival Fantasy Cruise. I just want to share what my wife and I experience during our cruise this time. We took the Cruise leaving out January 21st -26th 2019. I always take a cruise every year in January . It's something I have done for years now. Gives me something to look forward during the cold winter months. I had been looking forward to this trip since May 2018. I have been for years Carnivals biggest spokes person. I have told all my family and friends to take a Carnival cruise for the experience alone. This time I would have been absolutely embarrassed if any of my family and friends would have taken this cruise with us. We traveled from Kentucky to Mobile Alabama only to be told that our cruise would be delayed until Tuesday morning or we could have cancelled and went back home. Now looking back I wish I would have opted for a full refund and traveled back home. But we chose to go on the now 4 day cruise. This experience did not live up to all my past experiences I have had with Carnival . This ship did not seem like it was properly stocked , equipped and was very short staffed to handle the passengers on board. There was not enough help on board in any department for it to run efficiently. Which made for very poor service. This ship was not very well maintained from water fountains not working , to the windows being very dirty. We tried to call Guest relations several times just to get clean towels. We would have to wait all day and try catch a house keeper in the hallway in the evenings between 6-9 pm to get fresh towels. In the past every morning housekeeping would come early to clean and stock the room for the day. Maybe if I could have talked to someone I could have had them change the bedding that smelled like sour milk. Or the fact that we had no robes in our closet and mold around in our showers. There was a strong ammonia smell in the hallway at nights that was so strong it would give you a headache. Never in the past did we have a sign saying housekeeping was only available for three hours in the evening. Could be because they was being utilized else where during the day because of being so short staffed ? Which leads me to one of my favorite parts of a Cruise. The food the food was only served at certain times of the day. This is not at all what it has been it in past. Breakfast was served from 6 am to 9 am, from 9 am to 12 nothing, 12-3 lunch, from 3-6 nothing, and 6 pm was dinner. I went and asked for a Ruben sandwich, usually again the past its prepared right there in front of you. Not this time, it was handed to me from a cooler. not freshly made. All the bread on ship was very stale. No matter which meal it was served at it was stale. At the end of each trip I am always dreading it because I have always had such a great time. This time our bags were packed by the door and patiently waiting for our floor to be called. We could not get home soon enough!!! Even tho a refund was offered for missing the first day of our cruise. It would have been nice to get what was actually owed to us. We was owed $217 for the day. We was only paid out $117 . My mistake that I did not have that corrected as soon as I counted it. But the music was so loud I could not hear what they lady was saying to us. I wont say that I wont ever take a cruise with you guys again but after this experience , I don't know if you guys would be my first choice. Read Less

We usually go with a different cruise line but went with this trip because it was a family trip. Ship was dry docked for 2 weeks before this scheduled trip (Jan. 21st). They suffered a propulsion issue that canceled our first day be wise they couldn't get up to speed. We will be given credit for that day and were given an onboard $50 credit. They also took away Progreso port and gave us credit for port fees. Embarkation was relatively smooth despite all passengers being told to show up at the same time. Here comes my major problem with the trip. If it was dry docked and suffered this propulsion issue on the way back to Mobile, there is no way it was fixed properly because we had one of the roughest trips overnight. I had a room that looked out the back of the ship. The amount of vibrating was not normal. It could be felt all the way up to lido deck. Most passengers including my family were super sick. Vomit in hallways and on elevators. Beds sliding across the room. My kids and myself falling out of bed. Seriously scary. Water coming through the ceiling in the hallway draining into state rooms. Musty/mildew smell throughout the entire ship. The winds delayed us so much we got to our only stop late. No pools until the last day. No mini golf, waterslide only open a few hours. Ship did not feel stable despite sea being relatively calm for trip back. Maintenance crew was out and about doing things that should have been done in dry dock like painting and replacing stateroom carpet. No one ever did clean the carpet in the hallway under the leaking ceiling . After second day crew did not really care about trying to solve any problems while we were onboard. They spent their time preparing things for the next trip. This is fragmented and sort of out of order as I just got off ship this morning. The ship needs to be retired. It's not safe to be out if it's going to be tossed around like that. It obviously does not have the power or stamina to make it through a storm. Pick another ship!! Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the high ratings the ship received for families. I have cruised with Carnival on different ships 2 other times as well as sailing with RCL and DCL. I booked the cruise as a gift to my husband for his 40th birthday. The ship had a scheduled dry dock which ended prior to this sailing. I thought that meant maintenance would be completed and the ship would be in top condition. Boy, was I mistaken. The first day of our cruise was cancelled as well as one of our 2 stops. We were notified of this while traveling from Michigan. We were offered the opportunity to cancel with a full refund which I thought was nice, however, I was just arriving into New Orleans and thought we could make the most of the trip. We planned on renting a car anyway to get from New Orleans to Mobile and had a hotel booked in Biloxi. We were compensated with $50 per person on board credit and one day of our cruise fare credited to the on board account. I was completely satisfied with this. We decided to book a room in Mobile for the night that we would have been on the ship. Choices were limited because of a football event happening in Mobile, but we stayed within walking distance to the terminal and the price was not too bad. The weather was cold and windy the day of embarkation, but my spirits were high because I knew it would get warmer as we headed to Mexico. Embarkation was extremely smooth. The best I have ever experienced. Everyone was helpful and friendly. We got right onto the ship with no wait and we carried our own luggage to our cabin. Some crew members even offered assistance to myself and my 8 year old daughter on the stairs which I thought was really great. Things started to go downhill as soon as we opened the door to our oceanview cabin. It was tiny. There was nowhere to sit. The bed took up most of the space. The one outlet available was positioned so that I could not use the adapter I brought to add outlets. The bathroom door would not latch nor would one closet door close. One closet had a bad odor. The window was so dirty with paint and caulk, it was depressing to look out. Plus the curtains and walls were stained. When the bed that folded out of the wall was put down, it overlapped the king size bed. A small cot was placed under that bed making it impossible to ever walk around the bed. Also making it so that one must be careful while crawling over the bed to get to the window so as to not hit the upper bed. The television was more like a small computer monitor. The bathroom and shower were good size, but the curtain would not stay attached and the water temperature was difficult to control. There is no counter space at all and very little bathroom storage. The hooks that are on the door are only about half inch so hanging items was also a challenge. The ship looked worn and numerous bathrooms on the lido deck and around the ship were not functioning. They were frequently found to be dirty and the toilets would not flush. Leaks from pipes were happening in several places. Painting was in progress throughout the cruise and the odor of paint thinner would sometimes be present in our cabin, which coupled with nausea from sea sickness, is even more unpleasant. The dining, however, really did impress me. I loved Guy's burgers and the buffet and deli were open so many hours with excellent food choices. We had anytime dining which worked out very well for us. The food was wonderful and the service was really great from a few servers. My kids used Camp Ocean and they really loved it. The camp counselors do a fantastic job and made it a point to make us feel special. Acitivities on the ship were pretty good. I wish there were more scheduled family activities and that the children's activity schedule was available on the Hub. I never made it to any shows, but I heard some were cancelled because of the amount of movement from the high swells we were experiencing for the majority of this cruise. Our cabin was cleaned one time throughout our entire trip. The beds for the children were left out throughout our sailing. I saw our steward one time on our first day. She welcomed us by telling us about the strict smoking policy. I explained that we do not smoke and hate the smell of smoke which I could smell strongly in the hallway. We were located across from a door that said "Crew Only" on it and that door was never fully closed. I believe the smoke smell was coming from there. During the night as the ship rocked significantly, the closet door would creak and the bathroom door had to be left open or it would swing open and closed. The weather was poor for most of the time which I know cannot be controlled. It probably impacted my perception of this cruise, but the ship was really in need of more refurbishment. We have decided that we will not sail with Carnival again based on this cruise. There were other things that were not great on this sailing, but I have listed the main problems. I know others on the ship were also disappointed. I consider myself pretty easy going and I don't like to complain, but this was really a bad cruise experience. Read Less

We chose the carnival fantasy simply because we saw good reviews on how it was a family style ship. To be honest, it was my first cruise but not my husband or daughters first cruise. Going off their previous experience, food was honestly mediocre. Very similar to Golden Coral, (if you like that kind of food then you’ll be satisfied. There wasn’t a big variety of things to have, such as for dinner it was the same food almost every night. We were expecting great food, we were hoping to at least have good quality food. The crew members were top notch, very friendly, kind and informative! The ship was very out of date, and not kept up well. The tube where the water comes out on the drink dispensers were brown/moldy. Not sure if there is even such thing as a health inspector on this cruise line. The ceiling was leaking in the food area and so there were buckets out catching the water while we all ate, not to mention the water dripping on my neck behind me that started. Next disappointment was when docking in new locations, the process is easy getting on and off, it just sucks that we don’t have much time doing the activity we paid so much money for. I hate to leave a semi “bad review” but I want people to be aware of the small things that matter when boarding a cruise ship with their families. This was more on the less expensive side when we booked, so I guess you get what you pay for. For the rest of my family, this was their first cruise and this cruise kind of let them down and possibly wouldn’t cruise again because of this “bad” experience. Unfortunately I can’t upload pics using my cellphone but trust me I have them all! Read Less

We traveled on Carnival Fantasy because of its being located in our hometown. Its convenience is perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise of November 11, 2018. We traveled with some of our grown children and had a lovely time. Our room steward, ELFREDA, kept our room clean and comfortable, and supplied us with all we needed. She was friendly and caring in all she did. Our dining room team at Station 230 of ALVIN OGAO ESGUERRA, I NYOMAN SUARSA and FNU MATILDA LALREMDIKI, was friendly and efficient. They quickly recognized our individual preferences as they took our orders and served us. They kept up with and supplied us with what we needed during our meals. As usual, the meals were delicious, especially that wonderful chocolate melting cake. I enjoyed the craft activities provided, especially the picture frame. We thoroughly enjoyed the Magic Show and had a good time both nights with the two Musicals. Read Less

So different people cruise for different reasons right? We took this cruise to give our 2 1/2 year old grand daughter her first experience. I am platinum on Carnival and my husband is gold. I have five cruises booked at this time to give you some background. We drove from Tallahassee and it only takes about three hours so travel was easy. It was puzzling to me that coming from the east there was very little direction to the terminal. We found our way but not without a lot of turning around. Fantasy is an older ship but easy to navigate. We walked right on the ship without waiting in line more than five minutes. We arrived about 11am. We went right to the room and it was ready. We had an ocean view room and the bed was very comfortable. Our room steward was very helpful and we did ask that he service our room twice daily and bring ice. There was no refrigerator in the room. The window was stained and foggy but it was still ok. There was no bad sewage odor like you smell on some of the larger ships. Our room was very clean. This was a Getaway offer from the casino so we got gifts everyday and that was a nice perk. There were two drawstring bags the first day, champagne the second, chocolate covered strawberries the third and cookies the fourth. We also got the platinum gift which was the gray backpack. I already have one and found it very useful on my last cruise. The casino also treated us to a bottle of wine in the dining room. We did the green eggs and ham breakfast and the parade with our granddaughter and she loved it. We only ate in the dining room once and the service was ok. The food was normal Carnival fare and ok. We had room service once and it was very prompt in arriving. The rest of the time we ate pizza, burgers and marketplace food. We know how annoying kids can be in the dining room and tried to avoid spoiling anyone's dinner. We didn't do any shore excursions in Cozumel. We just got off the ship and walked around a little. We uses the time on the ship for her to play in the waterworks. The ladies in Camp Carnival were very helpful but she only went once and then refused to stay after. A little too much separation anxiety I think. I have to say that I've been on few ships that the staff was any nicer than on Fantasy. Everyone was very helpful and eager to assist at any moment. We did self debarkation and it was quick and painless. Off the ship by 8:45. By the time the cruise was over our gd had adjusted and was opening the door with her room key, sanitizing her hands frequently and telling everyone hello. I think it was a good experience for her and hope that this is the first of many cruises. I have a cruise booked on this ship in February and look forward to going back. Read Less

We arrived in Nobile AL the morning of the cruise. We found the Port and it was too early to get in so we went for breakfast. We went back to the port around 10am and they were letting us in the parking structure. This was the easiest luggage drop off we have experienced so far. When we pulled in the parking structure the attendants were waiting to grab the bags from the cars and then we went and parked. We had paid online for our parking so there was no headache with that. Once we got through check in and on the boat the staff were all smiles and helpful as always. We were excited to try Guy's Burgers and Blue Iguana b/c we hadn't had those on our previous cruises. The food did not disappoint the food was amazing at both. The Muster drill was much shorter than any of the previous ones. My group was taken into one of the theaters and they went through all of the normal stuff. They told us that it was no longer required for us to go outside and stand by the life boats and do that part of the muster drill which was good with me b/c I had a sleeping 3yo on me. Embarkation was very smooth. The first night in the MDR we met our head waiter Alvin he was amazing! We requested him for the rest of the week. He is by far the best we have ever had. When we would see him on the Lido he would even call us by our first names. My 3yo only ate dinner with us the first night then the rest of the week he dined with the kids camp. Alvin would ask about him every night. We have never had someone that was so warm and welcoming and made you feel a personal connection with them. All of our dinning experiences were GREAT! The food was amazing and the service was the best we have ever had. The entertainment could of used a lot of work. There were 2 comedians...one was Cowboy which we had seen a few years ago. He had the same material as he did 2 years ago which was off putting to me and it's not as funny once you've heard them previously. There was another guy comedian as well and I don't even remember his name but he wasn't funny either. We went to the Country show and the British show and left both shows. The singers were HORRIBLE....there were better singers in karaoke than Carnival was paying. The guy at the Piano Bar was amazing...he was definitely the best that we have had. Our room steward did a great job I think he was the best so far as well. All of the staff on the boat was very eager to help! Our 3yo LOVED the kids camp. After he went the first day he kept asking to go back. As I had mentioned previously he only ate dinner with us one time and then wanted to eat with his friends the rest of the week. This was such a relief since I could actually set down and have a grown up meal for a couple of hours. He loved all of the activities and crafts that they did at camp. He even stayed at the camp on Port Days. I had mixed feeling at first about it and was adamant that he would be getting off the boat with us. I am so glad that we decided to take him to camp. He had a much better time at camp than he would have had walking around Mexico in the 90degree weather shopping. The staff at the kids camp were outstanding. They were always so warm and welcoming to my 3yo and made him feel so comfortable. In Progresso we just went to a outdoor market and did some shopping. It looked really sketchy outside of the market and we had the older kids with us so we decided to go back to the boat after we were finished shopping. We went to Cozumel the next day. We went to Paradise Beach. The taxi drivers kept changing the prices on us b/c we had a large group (10) of us. They told us that even though the signs said passenger vans up to 14 people that the vans could only hold 8 people for insurance purposes. So we had to take 2 van's. They told us $22 per van for the 11 of us. When we got to the destination the cab driver told my husband that it was going to be $29 b/c there was 6 in his van and 4 in the other van. We asked the other's if they lowered their price since there were 4 of them in their van and they said no. So my husband told the driver he wasn't giving him any more than what they agreed on. So Paradise Beach does live up to the name of Paradise. it was beautiful and the facilities were very nice as well as the pool. However the prices that they were telling us were not what I had read online. I had read that the inflatables were $18 and we were charged $21/person. We spent a few hours there and when we were leaving we were told that it was another $110 before we could leave. They said that everyone in the party had to spend $10 on food which we hadn't been told this. My husband specifically asked when he was paying what other charges there would be and they said none. My husband talked with the Manager and just explained that he asked about any other charges when we got there and this $10/person food fee wasn't communicated to any of us. The Manager said he would have to talk to our cabana boy about it b/c they were supposed to communicate this to the guest when they were setting them up. We went back and did shopping at the Port at Cozumel for a while and then were glad to get back on the boat! This will definitely be my last time in Cozumel and Progresso I have had my feel of them and the ever changing prices at every turn. We had kids from the age of 3yo-16yo with us and they all had a great time! The teenagers probably enjoyed Guy's Burger's the most. They also enjoyed the Water Works. I would definitely go on this ship again but with a different itinerary. Read Less

Family of 4, kids aged 11 and 7. This was Fall break and this was my 12th Cruise, 5th on carnival. First, I love the Fantasy class of ships. They are small and have little outdoor areas a lot of the big ships have gone away from. They have a classic look and feel. Fantasy is showing her 27 years, but is well maintained and the crew seems to be in good spirits. Several remembered my name despite only visiting their location only a couple times. Embarkation in Mobile was hands down the most easy and smooth process of any cruise I’ve been on. Literally dropped luggage, parked, went thru security and on ship in 25 minutes. Carnival upgraded the fantasy class ships a couple years ago adding Guys burger joint and Blue Iguana cantina. Great burgers and great tacos/burritos and breakfast options as well at Blue Iguana. We had an interior cabin with 2 bunks that dropped from the wall and a king for us. Interior cabins are great for the afternoon nap as it’s dark and how much time will you be in cabin when you have 2 kids with you?! (Camp ocean :)) Our cabin steward introduced himself on the first night and we never saw him again. He always cleaned and turned down beds in the mornings..that’s fine except they rooms gets kinda trashed during the day for changing and naps and showers etc...I think too many cabins too few people working.. Dining Room was traditional cruise dining with the noticeably lacking service. We love food and dining and are not picky eaters and understand it’s not a 200 a plate steak house, but water glasses never being refilled. If you didn’t order a glass of wine when you first walked in, you would be lucky to get it by main course. That said, the waitstaff was working their tails off!!! Once again, too many full tables and not enough waitstaff!! Meals were decent, dessert was meh...all in all we had good food. No lobster on 5 day cruise ( unless you paid surcharge) escargots tho were excellent! Common denominator was too many cabins and tables not enough cabin stewards or waitstaff. Those are really the only things keeping this cruise from being a 4. Pool was crowded on seas days but we got there early and found shaded seats. Waterworks is awesome and on back of ship. My kids are generally well behaved and were able to go from pool to water slides on their own. They would check in every 20 mins or so and they have cruised many times before so they know the drill. Adults please do the water slides at least once. Great view from the top of the big one!! Our routines were morning gym, then mimosas with Lancelot at the red frog rum bar!!! Yes that’s his real name and he’s the best bartender on the ship!!! Then pools and lunch and relaxing and nap dinner etc...we went mellow this time. No agenda just wanted to relax. You can make cruises very busy and stressful trying to keep up with everything. My advice is to just chill and enjoy yourself. They still allow smoking in the casino, so it filters onto the promenade just FYI when ship is at sea. Get the cheers package if you plan on having more than 5 drinks in the whole day. Hot sun cold beer goes fast I’m telling you...plus you can get kids virgin pina coladas and daiquiris and bottled water all included. Also lattes and good coffee at bistro, and Rockstsr energy drinks. All that is included in cheers so it’s worth it to us. Smaller ship equals less walking and less people. This ship was full as it was fall break, but still felt nothing like a full freedom class or bigger on RCCL, etc or carnival Vista class. Debarkstion was easy too. We self carried and were off the ship and driving by 8:28 am! I would sail out of Mobile again. Carnival would enhance its experience by adding a few more waiters and cabin stewards. Read Less

My husband and I have taken four cruises together (including the honeymoon that became the reason for my screen name), but our 2 children had never been. We really wanted to introduce them to cruising and hoped they would love it as much as we do! We chose the Carnival Fantasy because Mobile is the most convenient port to us, being only a short 5 hour drive away. The kids were out of school for Labor Day, so less missed days. And the cruise was very reasonably priced which helped make the decision easy! Our kids were 5 and 2 at the time of travel and they LOVED our cruise. The staff was wonderful with them and made them feel like royalty. Both kids were excited to go to Camp Carnival (the fact that 2 year olds can use the kid’s clubs on Carnival is definitely a point in their favor!). Water Works was a huge draw for the kids, although my 2 year old was sad not to be big enough for the slides. Both kids wanted to play in the pool, but were disappointed by how small it was. So it was nice to have Water Works to make up for that. The food was very good in the main dining room, but we felt the buffet was somewhat lacking. Blue Iguana and Guy’s were both excellent. The kids actually really enjoyed going to the main dining room. The Seuss breakfast was awesome - food and characters were both wonderful! We did the Carnival sponsored Isla Pasion excursion and is was wonderful. The island is stunningly beautiful and we enjoyed playing in the sand and splashing in the water. The food was also very good, although there was not a huge selection. I only wish we had longer at the island. Overall, I think this was a great first cruise for those with small kids to “test out the waters” (pun intended)! Four days was a nice starter length and we loved having multiple sea days to really explore all the boat had to offer. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we booked last minute and the price was good. We had gone on the triumph less than a year ago and the experience was much more Pleasurable. To make a long story short all my little boy cared about was going on the water slides. they said my son (4years of age)did not meet the 42 inch height requirement of the water slides. I measured him 2 days before we left myself to verify he met the height requirement which he did. The slide attendants said he did not he could not slide. Remembering that he could ride all slides a year ago while he was only 3 on the triumph, I asked to speak with someone and waited where they asked for an hour and no one showed. Instead of getting my family all worked up on day 1 I decided to let it go. So we went to the 1 tiny pool where he was not enogh room to play or swim so we got out. The kids camp was okay. Again the triumph was larger and the kids camp a lot nicer with staff that seemed more excited to greet him upon arrival. The ship is outdated. The dining staff, bartenders, steward etc were great. Had a setback at excursion desk. We booked an excursion through carnival called the Mayan welness experience and when we Arrived were told the power went out. It includes a swim with the stingrays. But it was filled with trash and could t do that either. So basically while waiting for them to figure out what to do we were stuck at the beach ordering $10 Drinks. The cruise line said they would not refund any of the money because it said we received our services which wasn’t true. We had 2 options to choose from which was get on a bus and go to a beach (it was not an option because we didn’t want to venture off without our little one) or get a massage. The massage was fine but I could have gotten that anywhere. I would have rather gotten a refund. After Much complaining and the desk attendant rolling her eyes I was able to get 30%off. All in all, if someone paid for my cruise in its entirety I would not go back on this BOAT. The best part of the trip was going to Mr Sancho´s which I bookedyself outside of carnival. Read Less

This cruise was my 8th cruise. I have gone on some of the newer boats as well as some of the older Fantasy class ships. This was a family vacation with my husband, almost 2 year old, my mother and 2 friends. This was our first time driving to a port as we usually fly. But Mobile was about a 6 hour trip so we drove. Mobile was also the most disorganized port I've been to. We were told that the Fantasy was an hour late getting back to port and so that there were delays with getting on the ship, which could explain some of the disorganization but not all. The staff were no help at all and we stood in long, unorganized lines until a loud and very rude lady who told me she "ran the place" came and started yelling at us for forming a line that was blocking the traffic in the parking garage. However two other workers just stood and watched us form the line without giving us any direction on where we should stand. To make a long story short it was all a mess. And the lady was very rude and inconsiderate and if she really is the one who is supposed to be running the whole operation I see why it was such a mess. Once we finally got inside things were much better and people were nicer. And the process of getting our room keys was fast and easy. Once we got to our room we noticed that the crib that we had requested wasn't in the room and our room steward Elfreda was great and called for them to bring one. The boat is noticably old and in need of repair. But it was kept very clean. The staff was great and always smiling. We had your time dining in the Celebration Dining room and Delroy and his team were great. We appreciated that they brought our daughter's food out first without us even having to ask. The only issue we had was that our friends stateroom was extremely hot with no working A/C and smelt of gasoline. After two nights they were switched to another room. We also smelt gasoline at times in the hallways. We only went to one show "The Brits" me and my husband stayed for 10 minutes and then left for karaoke which was more entertaining in our opinion. The show was very cheesy and the singing and dancing not very strong compared to other cruises I've been on. The food was good, but the desserts were not impressive. We went to Costa Maya and Cozumel. Costa Maya we didn't do an excursion, just shopped around the port. Cozumel we did the Catamaran sail and snorkel and beach. It was great. The beach was beautiful and the snorkeling was fun. They had free drinks which were watered down. But we aren't big alcohol drinkers and brought our own bottled water so we didn't care. The staff was very nice and we're very serious about safety. They take pictures during the excursion and sell them to you on the way back, $12 each. Disembarkation was equally as chaotic as embarkation. Once we got our bags a worker came up and asked us if we had passports, we told her we all did except for my daughter who had a birth certificate and she said that was okay. She led us to a shorter "passport" line when the same rude lady from embarkation came up to us. Apparently we couldn't go through the passport line with a birth certificate. Which is fine. But the fact that were given wrong information was frustrating. We only were trying that line because a worker came up to us and told us it would be okay. It didn't help that they only had 3 people checking passports/birth certificates which made the line move slow. It's interesting that a port with only 1 ship, the smallest one at that, is the slowest and most disorganized one I've been through. All in all it was a good cruise. The boat didn't have a lot the new upgrades and is in need of some TLC. But the staff made it great. Everyone was great with my daughter. I think I would go again. I heard she was being dry docked in January 2019 so curious to see if she gets some upgrades. I've never bought Faster to the Fun but I definitely wished I had it for this cruise due to the disorganized port! Read Less
