This was my first cruise and let me say we had a blast. The cruise director Adam was phenomenal. I loved that he would dress up and change looks depending on the theme. He had great energy. He did a great job making sure everyone was entertained. I loved that they had so many activities for all ages. The welcome shows were great. Food and drinks were great. The FUN SHIP drink is a MUST. So delicious. Guys Burgers were juicy and the fries were banging. Room service was always on point. Putu (bobby) was always so friendly. It was amazing that he memorized everyone's name. It made the stay that much more welcoming. Anything we needed he made sure we had. Super helpful and friendly. All the staff was great. Always with smiles and waiting to answer any questions we had. From boarding the boat to leaving it was such a smooth transition. When we got to Cozumel there were so many excursions to choose from. We decided on paradise island. Our tour guides angel and faisel did an amazing job explaining the tour. It was all inclusive. The beach was just beautiful. The photographers took great photos. We ended up meeting some new friends on the excursion. The nightlife was good. Music was on point and i feel it catered to all ages. DRINKS IN THE REX WERE BOMB. (DJs Fave) was my go to drink. My only complaint would be the photos on the cruise. They didnt have an option to purchase all photos taken even on a usb. Each photo was $17-22 per photo. We had about 50 photos to choose from and it sucked not being able to bring them all home. The photos were all beautiful and with all the different backgrounds they had every night made it hard to choose. They also wont let you take your own photos with their background so thats how they get you. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had never been to Bermuda and found this 8 night cruise with better rates than the 4 night Bermuda cruises at the time we booked. We flew down from North Carolina the day before our cruise. We stayed at the Hampton Inn Ft. Lauderdale Airport North Cruise Port. I had read great reviews about this hotel. The staff was the nicest of any hotel we have stayed at. The hotel was very clean and the pillows and beds were very comfortable. The free breakfast was very good. We took the 10:30 shuttle from the hotel to the cruise port. It was $10 per person. We were on the ship by 11:30. We have found Carnival gets better and better on Embarkation. Our rooms were ready when we boarded. We have been Platinum on our last several cruises and enjoy the free laundry! Our family of six had 2 spa rooms with connecting balconies. The rooms were very clean but the beds did not seem as comfortable as past cruises. Our steward was Wirawan and he always kept our room clean. We had him clean in the mornings and in the evenings, we only wanted him to make sure we had fresh towels. The ship was beautiful and very clean. We did not smell any odor like some people have said. Before the cruise, I was concerned about the negative reviews of the Magic but we did not have any problems at all. Our whole family loved the Magic. We had 4 sea days and I ate brunch in the dining room two days. The french toast was delicious! We never experienced long lines on the Lido. When going to the Mongolian Wok, we got there 10 minutes early and they usually opened 5 minutes early. We always timed it right to avoid long lines. We didn't really like the barbecue. We prefer our N.C. barbecue. The desserts were definitely better on the Lido this time. We had early dining at 6:00 and had the best service!!! Our last 2 Carnival cruises have had much better service than previous cruises. Asyis, Adi and Sendian did an excellent job serving us. They were so nice too! During the sea days, we relaxed, played some mini golf and just enjoyed different activities on the ship. My two daughters and I enjoyed the Fun Shoppes. We always like the half price sale on purses, wallets, etc. . One of our daughters has special needs. There were some passengers that were extra nice to her. One nice young man saw us at the coffee shop and asked her what she liked. He ended up surprising her and buying her a double mocha frappe. It was so nice of him! We met a lot of very nice passengers on our cruise and enjoyed talking to them. We did not go to the shows at night! Some of my family went to watch the movies at night. Our first stop was at Grand Turk. We had been there before and went off the ship for less than an hour. Some of my family went to Jack's Shack but only stayed 15 minutes. We had 2 days in Bermuda. Our first morning there, we went to Horseshoe Bay beach for a couple of hours. Then we went to the ship and ate lunch. After lunch, we took the ferry to St. George. My daughters and I went in shops and enjoyed looking around the Pharmacy and the Perfumery. My husband, son and nephew walked across the town to Tobacco Bay Beach. We took the last ferry back that day at 5:45. We got back too late to go to early dining. Because we were staying over night, they allowed everyone who wanted to to go to anytime dining. That was nice of Carnival. We went at around 7:00 and were finished eating in about 55 minutes. I had an excursion booked for our second day there. A few months before our cruise, I booked a snorkeling excursion for the 6 of us and 2 friends from church who were also on our cruise. I booked with Mark Roberts and Under the Sea Charters. Mark can take up to 12 but there were only the 8 of us that day. We took a short taxi ride to the marina where Mark met us. Mark has a very nice boat. Most snorkeling excursions have very large groups of people snorkeling and snorkel close to the shore. It was nice because Mark took us 5 miles off shore to the Blue Hole and we were the only people out there snorkeling. The reef was beautiful with pretty fish. After that, he took us to an area to swim with turtles and then to a ship wreck. My daughter even got a selfie with one of the turtles. She thought it was the best excursion of all our cruises. I had read great reviews about Mark before I booked with him. He and his wife were so nice and informative. I highly recommend Mark if you want a great snorkeling experience. A lot of the crew had never been to Bermuda before, including the Captain. We loved our time in Bermuda. Our flight back was at 11:50 out of Ft. Lauderdale. We left our rooms at 8:00 and carried our own luggage off. We were off the ship in about 5 minutes and outside in less than 15 minutes. I am sure I left out some other information about the Magic but I will stop for now. This is the 3rd day writing a review. My computer the past two days would not submit my reviews and I am just hoping after all this time, it finally gets submitted. Our family loved the Magic and our cruise to Bermuda! We would definitely go on the Magic again. Read Less

We are getting close to the end of an 8 day adventure on Carnival Magic and have a few negatives to report . The entertainment in the evening was not what we expected compared to our previous 2 cruises with Carnival. The only night we half enjoyed was the last night with the rock and roll of the 80's being played by the cast in costume. The entertainment on the main floor was much better with several different groups. The trio of female violinists from the Ukrane were the best. Some of the Pixel staff needs a lesson on customer courtesy as their new way of ordering pictures was very confusing and they were all 11x7 pictures but they didnt have one 11 x 7 frame to purchase and some of the help didnt even know how to order your pictures and didnt seem to care if you bought or not. We found most of the food ok but the dinner at night was great. We really need to put a shout out to our head waiter Joseph and his staff of Maryna and Cabata for the friendship they showed us every evening in the Northern Lights Restaurant. We hope to someday take another cruise and luck out to have them again. Also we would like to thank our housekeeping for the nice job of keeping our room clean and ice bucket filled. We did feel the carpet needed a good cleaning though. We will cherish all the fond memories we did have on this cruise though. We have previously been to Grand Turks but took the Rainbow Tour Bus for a tour of the island. My sister-in-law enjoyed it so that's what we had hoped for. A special thanks to Jaunita for her guide service on Bermuda. Very informative. My sister-in-law who took her first cruise with us at 83 years young got plenty of souvenirs to take back with her and we truly hope she decides to take another cruise in a couple years. My wife and I are planning an Alaska Cruise and Land tour in the next couple of years when she retires from her work. Once again, thank you Carnival for another great experience. Read Less

This was our very first cruise. Didn’t no exactly what to expect and was nervous at first. Everything turned out beyond what I could have asked for. The ship is huge with 2 pools (wished they were a little bigger) but both very nice. The service was great. The dinning room was definitely my families favorite with our 3 favorite servers that we continued to request the entire cruise (Gede Arnawa, Ketut wiranan, and Nant) Arnawa was our favorite!! Very outgoing and went beyond what we could have asked for. Always making us laugh and all around a fun guy!! Danced with him at dinner a few times too haha. He was a highlight on our cruise. Some of our favorite places to eat lunch were guys burgers (so yummy) and pig and anchor (boyfriend loved this and I did too) Our favorite bartender was Keke she was amazing! She knew how the make the best bloody Mary’s and very friendly! The cheers drink package was definitely worth every penny. Drinks are about 10$ so we took full advantage of the drink package!! The entertainment was great! The comedy quest show was hilarious! One of our favorites. Simon was our cruise director and he went above and beyond with entertaining everyone. He had a white night party, and 80s party both which were very enjoyable. The last day he did a balloon drop! Was soo cool! The ports that we visited where half moon cay (water crystal clear, my favorite) Turks and cacios, and amber cove. 3 absolutely beautiful ports. In half moon was a perfect beach day and visiting the pirate ship bar! Turks and Caicos we rented a golf cart and rode around the island. Got to visit margaritavillie jacks shack, and more! Amber cove we did zip lining shore excursion. Loved the excursion. Only downfall they didn’t tell you everything you needed to have to be prepared for excursion (shoes, very long shorts, etc) would I go on a cruise again?! Omg yes in a heartbeat!!! Read Less

We cruised Sept. 22-28 on the Sunshine, originally for 1.5 days in Bermuda, but diverted due to hurricane Jerry to Princess Cays and Nassau. We were disappointed as Bermuda was the main reason we booked the cruise and the fact it was leaving from Charleston. We knew it was hurricane season, but unfortunately, all of the Bermuda options on Carnival from Charleston are during hurricane season and not a lot of other options are available. We were disappointed, but made the best of the cruise. We have sailed the Sunshine before in 2016 when it was making less frequent runs from Charleston, it is now home based there. It is an older ship that was re-designed in 2013. We typically enjoy the very large ships better because there are just more options. There are some oddities with this ship in getting to certain areas. You can’t pass through on all levels and find yourself going up or down a floor, walking through and then going up or down where you need. It is confusing, but not a deal breaker! By the time you figure out the system good, it’s time to get off the ship. Because it is not that big of a ship, it doesn’t take long to get to either end. But, it is larger than the Fantasy class ships. With the exception of the first evening and next morning, we rarely felt movement on the ship. I attributed the movement early on to being close to hurricane waters, but who knows! The rest of the trip, we wouldn’t have known we were on a ship. Of course, on the trip back to Charleston from NASSAU, the trip was only moving at about 12 knots. We had an outside stateroom with picture window, deck 1, midship (less movement typically) The room is a very nice size and in looking at some newer ships on OTHER lines, their outside cabins are very small ( I have not compared to Carnival’s newer ships yet). Our room had good room on each side of the king bed (2 twins together), small tables with storage on either side, a desk/vanity area that was wide, large mirror, lots of storage shelves and drawers. There is a small stool type chair for the vanity, a couch that seats 3 and table. There were 3 closets, 2 with hangers and space and the 3rd had the safe and shelves. There was plenty of storage and room for suitcases under the bed. TV had very limited channels including 2 movie channels and at least 2 channels for kids. You could not check your account on the TV, nor did it have menus, you could see menus on the hub app. You could also follow the days schedule on the app. Lighting was excellent in the cabin. There is an outlet with two plugs at the vanity area. I took an extension cord so I could use my sound machine to drown out snoring! The temperature was comfortable most of the time, a few times it felt a little warm even though we kept the settings on the lowest setting. I will say if you like your room very cold, that is not happening. It was comfortable, but not cold. Keeping curtains closed when sun is on that side helps keep the room from getting too warm. Outside temps were 70’s (night I think) to high 90’s. There is a hairdryer in the top drawer at the vanity, but difficult to use, so if you can, take your own. It is attached in the drawer and does not stretch far enough for you to use it adequately. I had to bend over to get it to my head and I am short. I could not see what I was doing as it would not stretch to the mirror. You also have to keep holding the button as you use it, or it cuts off. That is challenging too. It really was useless except maybe for drying, forget styling! There was space for storage in the bathroom and the size of the shower was very good. We had hot water most of the time and the water pressure was good most of the time. I am sure when a lot of people are using at once, that changes. Our cabin steward was Komang and he did a great job. We were given the option for morning, evening or both for room service, and we chose evening. I asked for ice to be brought nightly and he did that. We did not “see” him often but when we would return to our room, no matter what time we ate dinner, he had been there! He left awesome towel animals too. I try and keep the room straight, neat and clean, so didn’t leave a lot for him to do. We saw in some rooms as we’d pass by and I could not believe the mess people left. I do not feel it is their job to clean up behind us; but to clean bath as needed, leave fresh towels, empty trash, make the bed/turn down and ice. (though I sort of keep my bed made). Sad what some people expect. I always tip stateroom attendant extra because I know what they do is not easy. Food was good, nothing exceptional but it has been that way since the extra fee restaurants came into being. I also think because the chefs/cooks are form other countries, the food/recipes is not prepared as we are used to eating it. The buffet was pretty much similar items for breakfast and lunch. Deli had some great sandwiches and they are open until 11:00pm. Guys Burgers is open until about 6:00pm and the Blue Iguana closes around 2:30 (tacos, salads and burritos). They had late night snacks at 11:30-1:00 in the buffet area, but I never went to see what was offered. The only option for 24 hours is pizza or room service. There is not a fee for room service (unless you order items with an extra cost). Of course, tip is appreciated. Oh, if you are a fa of the cranberry rolls I teh dining room, they only had them one night, so eat up if you see them! All the bread was good though, as was the whipped butter! Sugar straws came with frozen drinks, etc. and they were fine until they started "melting" so to speak, they were like limp wet rubber and you could not drink through them. Not much flavor to them and they did not taste sweet. We found as many have said, the desserts look better than they are, including the cakes. They were good, just not exceptional or awe inspiring, no “wow” factor. Some desserts had odd textures. but they filled you up! I cannot speak for the extra fee restaurants as we did not eat at any, but they may have been better. I heard someone who ate at the steakhouse said it was excellent. I had beef tenderloin for one dinner in the dining room and it was very good, and I enjoyed the filet mignon steak and egg breakfast for brunch in the dining room. The chocolate melting cake was good, as it always is. The 24 ice cream machines were available as were lemonade, tea, coffee and water. I am not a big ice cream fan, so that didn’t appeal to me. All of the staff in the dining room and other dining areas were very nice, friendly and helpful. I saw numerous times throughout the ship, not just at dining, but other times as well, anyone who needed assistance, staff were right there to help them. They were very accommodating. I went to guest services twice and staff were very friendly there as well, Also the excursion desk. I never saw or encountered any rude staff or anyone appearing to be disgruntled. We had my time dining and used our Carnival Hub App to request a table. We went anywhere from 5:30-6:45 and never had more than a 10 minute wait. We would make the request on the app and it would tell us when our table was ready and gave the number. You walk in the dining room on deck 3 and the host has you seated. Only one night in the dining room did we wait what seemed a little longer for our food. Most nights, it was all very quick service. You can pay $5.00 each and be able to chat with each other on the ship through the app if needed. My husband had the premium (2nd level) wifi and was able to receive and send texts, check email and get on the web and make and receive wifi calls, though Carnival does not state/guarantee that will be available. We could sign off one device and use another as needed. My husband is a workaholic and gets stressed if he cannot have access. Our phones with T-Mobile worked on princess Cays and Nassau without the wifi. Just remember when you return to the ship, to put it back on airplane mode. I do not think the ships wifi worked on Princess Cays. I thought we’d be able to check our account on the app, but I was never able to do that. I did go to one of the 2 kiosks and printed out a statement to check our charges. If you have gift cards, you must go to guest services to load them to your account, it no longer works at the kiosks. The production shows were good as well as the comedy club acts. Adam, the Cruise Director was very good, professional and entertaining. When I saw any of the entertainment staff, they were all very good, seemed to be having fun (though I know they are working, and it is a job and not as fun for them as the passengers) and did a great job. Staff were always cleaning throughout the ship and nothing was ever amiss. It is an older ship, but kept in good condition. I never smelled any sewage odor. You could smell smoke on the decks near the casino and in the casino. We stayed out for that reason. Lots of music and bar options. When out by pool areas, waiters came around often to ask if you needed anything. The same during shows. Dress for the dining room, I know this is always a hot topic! On elegant nights, I saw shorts and jeans, as well as formal wear, so the full gamut. It doesn’t matter to me. We elected to skip the first elegant night because hubby did not feel like getting dressed. They had most of the same menu items in the buffet except for the lobster tails, which is OK with me as I am more of a shrimp person. I will say, the oysters were not what we in SC are used to and I could not eat them. The breading is totally different, but the oysters themselves were very strong for lack of a better word and almost fishy like and did not taste like oysters I have eaten elsewhere, including FL. I usually love fried oysters, but not those. For casual dining they do suggest no flip flops, but I saw men in those, after telling my hubby he had to wear closed toed shoes! Next time I won’t worry about it. We did the “behind the Fun” tour (95.00) and enjoyed it very much. It was the first time we have ever done one. It was conducted by Benn, who was getting off the ship same day as us for 2 months of vacation, and he did an excellent job. The tour was very informative and there were several surprises which I will not reveal, or they won’t be surprises for you! I will say there are photo ops and ladies, you may want to take that into consideration! You must wear closed toed shoes for this excursion and no skirts or bathing wear. You cannot take a camera or a cell phone on the tour. There is time for bathroom breaks and a short refreshment break. Though most of the 3.5 hours was walking (stairs as well) and standing, there were several times, where you could sit for a few minutes. Most of our crowd was 50+ and no one seemed to have any challenges. One exciting moment was when we were off the coast of Jacksonville, an air force jet flew over the ship. It was so close and cool to see, would have loved to have had a picture of that! For pictures taken throughout the cruise, they are still posted in slots on the walls and you have hunt for yours. I never did find most of mine and figured we must have broken the camera! I did overhear a passenger chastising an employee for telling someone with him, that she could not take pictures, of the picture! I would think that is common sense, but the passenger was trying to make the employee feel bad for doing his job. Not cool. Just admit you’re wrong and move on. We did the stingray excursion in Princess Cays and it was very good, especially for the price. I have swum with stingrays many years ago in Cayman Islands and loved it, but that was challenging because the water was almost neck high for me and lots of waves to keep navigating. For this excursion, the area with the rays is blocked off from the rest of the beach, but is right there when you get to the beach. You walk right in and the rays swim around all the way up to the shoreline. You have the opportunity to pet them, snorkel in the beach area with them and later, feed them and hold them. The handler was very good and has been with them for 3 years. She said when a storm comes, they let them out of the fenced area, but they always come back. My husband was hesitant to get in because of the Steve Ervin incident, but he became more comfortable and did get in with them, though he did not feed or hold one! He took lots of pictures for me. We were allowed to take our own pictures, which was very nice. There were many lounge chairs on the beach (sun and shade) and float chairs to rent as well as many other things to rent. The stretch of beach is long, so keep walking and you will find a chair in an area you like. There was a nicer souvenir shop (takes the sign and sail card only) and straw market type booths as well as hair braiding offered. Bar service was good. Restrooms were limited, so don’t go at the last minute! Band played live music and that was nice. The lunch provided from the ship included hamburgers and hotdogs and was filling. They gave you very small cups for your drink though (lemonade, tea, water), like a bathroom sized dixie cup. People were busy cleaning up, not only the meal areas, but throughout the entire area. It was very clean there. The beach was calm but rocky, you do need water shoes! You must take tenders to the ship and we had no issues with those nor long lines. There was a small shallow pool in the kid’s playground area with lounge chairs. But the ocean was calm and little ones could sit right at shore. There were showers to wash off shoes, etc. but the stream of water was very limited and slow and they didn’t do much good. We did the walking tour in Nassau since we had already been there 3 times, and also did not want a beach day after Princess Cays. It was a very nice and informative tour, our guide was David who was great. It was hot, but he provided us with an iced water bottle about half the way. He also had devices we used so we could all hear him no matter where he was in the group. Highly recommend for a short and informative tour, 1.5 hours. We did not have trouble getting into any of the shows in the theater. It did get full for the love and marriage show, but by the way Adam talked, that was an anomaly, probably because we were in Nassau overnight and most stayed on the ship! For the comedy club, there are lines. The earlier you get there the better. We went about half an hour early and never had trouble getting seated. Once one show ends, everyone has to leave and if they want to attend the next show, they must go to the end of the already formed line. They did have staff at the door watching this. We preferred Jimmy Carroll as the comedian, but both comedians had long lines and full shows. The 18+ is not for kids for sure because mainly of the language. I did not play bingo, I have no idea what the cards cost, but they did give away a cruise on Wednesday, $3000.00 on Thursday and $5000.00 on Friday. There were less than 200 kids on our cruise, so the waterpark was not as crowded as it could be. I did see people on the ropes course. Numerous other outdoor sports options and mini golf. The main pool is not very large, but this seems to be an issue on all ships. There is a smaller waterfall and shallow pool on the serenity deck for adults only. That area is also very nice if you can get a chair. I think the area had been enlarged since my 2016 cruise. Embarkation was quick and easy, though because of the layout of the Charleston terminal, you do go to separate buildings, some walking, some riding a bus. There were no good signs for where we were to turn to park on embarkation day, despite there being good signs to the port itself. That is not Carnival’s fault of course and after turning around, we eventually found the way! You drive in and pay first, then drop your luggage, then go park. You walk to a building where you are checked in (it was quick) and then you go by bus (security reasons) to the ship where we went right on. The sign and sail cards are at your room when doors open at 1:30 (unless you have priority boarding, FTTF, etc. and get in your room early). It was about 12:30 when we got on. For debarkation (silent), also easy. We had to be out of our rooms at 8:30 am and most are off the ship by 9:30am. If you are checking your luggage, you pick up tags the day before departure for early (8:30-9:00) or late departure (9:00-9:30). Your bags are left outside your door the last night on the ship. The departure times are shown on your TV and on the big screen at the pool area, etc. I wish this could be added to the app. Those taking all their luggage off themselves, can start departing much earlier. Announcements are not made because Charleston asked they not be, but this worked just fine. When our number was shown, we went down and walked right off, very quick. When you get into the customs building, you pick up your luggage and go through customs. This took us only about 5 minutes. We normally get a porter, who can get you through a fast porter line, but there weren’t any available and it worked out fast anyway and we saved some bucks! We walked out to the shuttle buses, which take you to the parking lot. We were leaving the parking lot by 9:50am (our number was shown at about 9:15am on the lido pool deck, so entire process took about 35 minutes). There are people to assist those who need it. So, despite the oddities of the terminal (thanks to Charleston), the system works very well and was fast and efficient. I have waited much longer in fancier terminals! Efforts have been in the works to build a nicer terminal, but there are some in Charleston fighting that. I vote with someone who suggested moving up to North Charleston. It would be closer to the airport, less expensive hotels and the ship would sail under the Copper River Bridge! That would be a plus! Love sailing out of Charleston because it is 2 hours from my home. Just wish we had more ship options and more itinerary options. But I am thankful Carnival does offer what they do, as a small group of Charlestonians holds up progress and makes cruising from there difficult. Be glad to answer any questions I can. Overall and good cruise and plenty to do. Debbie Read Less

I can’t begin to understand how any one can complain about the ship. Although I was one of the unfortunate ones to have their ports cancelled due to hurricane Humberto, I still can’t say a bad thing. They’re giving us a free cruise for the inconvenience and the staff did amazing! Yes being stuck on a port for 6 out of 7 days during bad seas was rough but the staff did everything they can to make us feel safe and welcomed. EVERY STAFF MEMBER on that ship is AMAZING ! The entertainment is top notch.. food is the best I’ve ever had and I’m sorry there was no waiting , ship was clean and never felt crowded. The entertainment went on even though it was hard to stand on the stage , trust me I know I was on it as well. You can’t predict bad weather and we we’re u lucky but As I said the staff did everything they could to make it a fun cruise . All our excursions were refunded immediately . I would highly recommend guys burgers and the blue cantina, food was amazing . The alchemy bar was hands down the best drinks and most talented bartenders I’ve ever seen and that’s coming from a bartender myself, I learned a lot of tricks from them. I highly Recommend ignoring the bad reviews and booking this cruise! Read Less

We were big Carnival fans but then they got greedy and service and quality went down to the basement. But we came back last year and things had improved-not much but somewhat On the Pride the service was excellent everywhere we went. Our cabin steward Yasa was fantastic. we had cruised with him before on Carnival. He exceeded all expectations of service and being just a great guy. We usually have issues in the formal dining. I mean some bad slow service but this time on the Pride- HayDee and her team of Roland and Rexter were outstanding. They were terrific people. My wife cried on the last service saying goodbye-Yeah I got a little choked up too. Due to weather the production shows were modified but still good. I hope Carnival keeps them as they are fun and entertaining. Some other cruise lines have changed things up and we don't care for their entertainment Cruise direct Dr. E worked hard to keep the crown engaged. He was fun. We are senior citizens but like fun times and Carnival most of the time provides that. But we expect excellent service and decent food. Carnival keeps trickling UP their drink prices and gratuity while limiting choices like a "bar" brandy and 18% tag on for drinks. They are greedy. Parents- either leave your kids at home OR watch them- IT is NOT their ship to run all over screaming and hollering. All in all- a good time was had. Read Less

the cruise sailed from NOLA, which is only a 6 hour drive to the port we dont like to fly, the airports are such a pita since 9/11 the ports were great, Belize has really expanded it's on shore shoping the bbq on the ship was not very good the fieri burgers were just ok, nothing to write home about the dr. seuss breakfast and dining staff went above and beyond we were in 7210 which was very quiet and close to everything. we had the plus of getting espn 1 and 2 in the cabin as we were directly below the officer quarters. they should give this to the whole ship. the sports bar is always smokey from the casino and not much fun to sit in the shows were above and beyond and the late night comics were hilarious over 1/2 the ship takes all their crap off the ship to be first off, crazy people wore hats , flops, wife beater shirts to dinner in MDR Carnival has really lost it here. Food was good. i did blue slide 10 times and fractured right elbow, better now. sex, drugs, rock and roll....great cruise Read Less

Chose this cruise due to length (8 nights) and ports visited (St Thomas, St Maarten and San Juan) plus it left out of Charleston SC which was convenient for our family cruise. I would recommend the Sunshine. Staff was nice and entertainment staff was great. Loved the Ocean Plaza area. Trivia, great music (2 to 12). Enjoyed the Java Café each day. The Atrium parties were fun and the cruise director, Adam, added to the entire experience. Love the Thirsty Frog and Carnivals Red Beer. Our cabin was fine (interior on 6). Towels animals every day made me smile. Ports were awesome. Excursions were fun. Met great people. Also, enjoyed Alchemy Bar and the assortment of drinks. Bartenders did a great job. LOVED the Build a Bear and made a Carnival Bear (and I'm an adult) lol Shows were good. Comedians were funny. Negatives were: the food was below par. Buffet food was cold most of the time. (Salad bar was good). Not enough healthy choices. Lack of vegetables on buffet. Limited choices. Need more fish & chicken that was edible. Deli was good and stayed busy. Pizza was not very good. NCL has much better food. Although Bar Service was overall GOOD. The bartenders don't work a bar very well. They don't honor 1st come 1st serve AND they take orders around the entire bar; make many drinks at once leaving people long waits and newcomers to bar even longer waits. Bad system overall. Other negative for this cruise was piano bar which we usually love. Zack Daniels not a very good singer but can play piano and entertain. But found him overbearing in some aspects. Also, Aretha, bingo, was rude and crude. Rest of staff was great. One other negative was the water pressure. It's an older ship but fine except for the water pressure in shower/bathroom sink. Also, Carnival seems to have problems with sewage smells around their ships that other cruise lines don't have. Public toilets over flowing (ie: Casino bathroom). Don't see this on NCL, RCI or Celebrity. We've been on 4 cruise out of Charleston (Ecstasy, Fantasy and Sunshine). We've enjoyed all 4 and are pleasantly surprised by our experiences. Love this port. This was our first Platinum cruise and we enjoyed the party and guest service priority. Thanks Read Less

The only 3 Day available in my area. But we were very happy for the service and address of NoNo, who is an excellent director, demonstrates a lot of love for what she does and her joy and affection is for everyone, from children to the elderly. It really is very positive that they have people like her in the Carnival family. In addition, all the staff made us feel part of them and at all times were willing to help us. We are very pleased to have had this experience that will certainly not be the last. Thank you for everything you made us feel and for the energy and joy of your director NoNo. We love her. The attention of my dining room team was excellent: THW- Marcos, Jeffrey Jimenez. TW- Jele, Siphilisiwe, ATW- Chua, Hazel Ong. Something we don't like is the child care schedule that on their first day they only have to register them and very late for what is a day that children cannot enjoy that service they should think of a better schedule and that neither they offer children meals or snacks while they play. We chose this cruise as it suited our time frame and the price was extremely fair. I was however nervous a couple of days prior to departure after reading some terrible reviews. Embarking went fantastic very quick and efficient the appointment times work so there is no wait to get onboard and begin the vacation. First impressions were staff very friendly and welcoming love the new designs in the lobby atrium very welcoming and feels very roomy. Straight up onto the lido deck we went to check it out. It was extremely busy as you can imagine as everyone was enjoying the bar and ample types of foods. Mikey from the entertainment was absolutely phenomenal I’ve never laughed so hard and right from the beginning I knew this was going to be a good one. We were able to access our cabins at 1:30pm which was awesome so we could get ourselves situated before we set sail. We stay in cabin aft 6439 balcony the room design was awesome and more than enough closets 3 in total full length mirror on inside of one of the doors. In the bureau there was ample drawers 6 in total. With a built in desk and another great mirror. And shelves built around it. The cabin was fabulous no complaints whatsoever about the cleanliness and the bathroom is actually bigger with a decent amount of counter space on the vanity along with 6 shelves. Love the water temperature adjuster huge thumbs up on this. Deck party phenomenal all the Entertainment was fabulous there was so much to do never a minute to become bored. Serenity was amazing we even found ourselves falling asleep with the tranquil music that was being played and the chaises made for 2 so comfortable. Dining room very efficient we were welcomed each evening no problems with service or food all excellent. I would highly recommend a night at the Fahrenheit steakhouse the food was amazing. All in all no complaints at all only praise. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we already booked for next year but this time instead of the 4 day we are doing 8 loved it Read Less

Over 20 cruises with Carnival. Each one an experience. Although this ship is a little old now,she is still a fun ship. Great staff on this ship makes the voyage lots f of fun and entertaining. Cam,the cruise director is definitely one of the best. He really puts his all into everything he does. One of if not the best singing/dance teams we have seen. Ardestra Gardens in Nassau was beautiful. Small garden with marching flamingos! About $18 for ticket and a $20 taxi ride there. Definitely worth a visit, highly recommend. Half moon cay was beautiful as usual, watch out for jellyfish! Otherwise beautiful sandy beach with lots of room for fun and relaxation. Looking for jewelry? Check out Effy on ship, Marianne or Alexandra are 2 ladies who know their stuff. They also give away lots of cool stuff. Guys burgers are always a hit, and they have improved their desserts in the lido restaurant. Had ocean view room, which was comfortable and plenty of storage space for 2. There was worn spot in shower floor which was repainted during cruise while we were out and about. I also recommend that when looking at reviews to take more notice of this who have done more than one review. These folks have cruised often and know what to expect. Just saying! Read Less

This was our first cruise and we had a blast. Right from the port of entry the carnival people where polite and very respectful. Once onboard the ship was very amazing. The night dining meals was fantastic. Our waiter bent over backwards to meet our needs. Aba was one of them and the other was Edward. Once we got settled in our room was very clean and the air conditioner worked great. The balcony was nice at night time. Our room Stewart was niaom "not sure of spelling" Niaom was very polite and helpful. Anything ask he would go out of his way to get it done. Over all trip was fantastic and we seen land that my family thought they would never see. Half moon cay was a beautiful island to spend the day. This was our first cruise ever so we choose a 7day to Nassau Bahamas and a overnight in Bermuda. I only saw my 16y old at breakfast and Dinner plus the 2 shore excursions he made a bunch of friends his age doing their entertainment and activities all over the ship ( I highly recommend taking the "Restless Native Catamaran " shore excursions in Bermuda) I have to give a Shout Out to these's people they made our experience very memorable " James, Thai , Andy, Adam, Christian, with the games like Clue, Guess Who, trivia's ect and we must not forget the Comedians " Cowboy, Kim Harris, Al Cats " . Our first dinner was at the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse , the rest of the Dinners we eat a the" Sunrise Dinner " we got so spoiled , Henry & ----- table number 517 knew our names and had our drinks , they worked so hard for us I have to say "Thank You " I give them a 10 out of 10 thumbs up.. We did not want to leave the Sunshine ship it only felt like 3 days next time I'll be taking 10 to 14 days ... Definitely will go again !! The only thing that need to be more smoother is when we got to the port in Bermuda getting Off the ship was so crowded everyone wanted off at the same time , we had an excursion at a certain time but for some reason you let the people who did NOT have excursions go at the same time I thought the Excursions had priority off the ship first ? I have to say I was happily surprised about many things that weren't like I had read on the reviews on this site. This was my husband and my 4th cruise and our two teenage daughters first cruise. We parked our rental car at 528 Port Parking. We only waited a few minutes for the shuttle to Carnival Liberty. It was only $35 to park and the shuttle was included. We arrived an hour earlier than our boarding time but they sent us right on the ship. We went up to the Lido deck and had lunch. Most of the tables were full but the lines were short for food and moved quickly. We didn't check any bags so we headed to our room at 1:30, unpacked and went to the muster. This is a miserable process because it is hot and you are so close to so many people but it seemed to go smoothly. We chose anytime dining and chose to have dinner at 5:30 the first night. We were some of the first to arrive. The service was great, the food was hot and tasted good, the portions are small but I love that because you can try more things. We ate in the dining room every night. The menu was different each time. We even went at different times and we still had great service and great food. As far as other food experiences, we loved the burgers at Guy's, the pizza place was good, the crust was a little thin but we didn't mind that, the deli was good, I had a turkey avocado sandwich on a pretzel bun and it was really good, the breakfast burritos at the Mexican place were to die for (I even ordered an extra at breakfast and ate it for lunch at Atlantis), Sea Day Brunch is a must, I loved the 12 hour french toast, we had chocolate melting cake every night in the dining room, it is so good, the girls ordered room service one day and they liked it, I had read about long lines, we only experienced this at the pizza place once after everything else was closed. Many reviews talked about how old and run down Liberty is. You can tell it is an older ship but it is still nice. Some reviews talked about the workers not clearing tables or cleaning, I saw many of them clearing and cleaning up. Our cabin was an inside cabin and it was super crowded with 4 of us in there but we don't cruise to sit in our room so that didn't matter to us. The a/c didn't stay as cool as we would have liked but we really like it cool. The ship lay out isn't super easy to navigate but you learn quickly. The Carnival Hub app is awesome. I highly recommend using it. It helped with ship navigation but also help us know what activities were happening all the time. We liked the Rock show and the Hasbro Game show. We didn't attend any of the others. My husband went to the casino a few times. He lost his allotted money quickly so he didn't stay long. I played bingo once and liked it. We didn't go to any of the comedy shows. We did however watch movies on deck every night and we loved it. They have popcorn. The girls sat in the hot tub and I on a deck chair. We booked a room at Comfort Inn and Suites to get the free Atlantis tickets that they offer. It was much cheaper than buying through the ship or Atlantis. Book your room ahead of time though because they fill up fast. We had a great time at Atlantis, there were no lines, we loved the rapids river and the slides, we snorkeled in the Lagoon and spent some time on the beach. The water in Nassau is the most beautiful blue. We took a water taxi to Atlantis and we took a regular taxi back to the ship, it was about $20 each way for 4 of us. Make sure you have your sail and sign card and your ID to get back on the ship. Debarkation took longer than we expected but we were on deck 8 so we were the last to be called. We waited about 30 mins for our shuttle. We love cruising and it was fun to see our girls experience cruising. Oh, I almost forgot. I was given a $50 card to use at the spa from Carnival for my birthday that is this week. I had the most amazing combined facial and massage. TY Carnival for the cherry on top. Read Less

Introduction: This cruise was booked 16 months prior to sailing. While it is not our first cruise, it is the first with my daughter and her husband who had no previous cruise experience. I sprang the invitation to my daughter just 6 months before the cruise. To say they were excited is an understatement. We traveled to NYC by train the day before sailing, my wife and I from Boston and my daughter and son-n-law from Philadelphia. Embarkation: I have become quite disappointed with the embarkation and debarkation process on Carnival in Manhattan and this cruise was not an exception. Up until 2016 Priority Boarding for Platinum, Diamond and Suite guests we always had a VIP lounge and a separate boarding area. The process was fast, efficient and comfortable. No longer is this the case. The Platinum, Diamond and Suite guests no longer have a lounge, and are grouped together with Faster to the Fun and persons with disabilities. The Ship: When I was looking for a cruise for September it was exciting to see a different ship was coming to New York. For reasons some who have read my previous reviews are aware my wife and I limit our cruises to those out of New York and Boston. We had not sailed on the Triumph before its transformation to the Sunrise this year. I had actually booked the cruise before the change was even publicized. I prefer the ships under 110,000 so this met my entire criterion. The ship was clean which given it just went through a $200 million refurbishment should not come as a surprise. While it never, even breakfast at the Lido, seemed crowded it always felt compressed like they want to be all things to all people. Each venue seemed shrunk to fit. The two exceptions were Pixels and Serenity. Way too much space taken up with this money grabbing venue of which my wife took full advantage. We unfortunately were unable to find any seating at Serenity on the three times we attempted. Simply stated we are not early risers so we just went back to our wonderful balcony which I discuss next under Stateroom. I was a bit disappointed with the layout of the ship. Getting to the Limelight Lounge on Deck 4 with the Punch Liner Comedy is a bit complicated. You have to traverse the Radiance Dining Room or walk partially through the Casino on Deck 5 then take the elevator or stairs down to Deck 4. Rarely will you be able to enter through the back side next to the Sunshine Dining Room. Stateroom: I originally booked Grand Suites but about a month before the cruise when we were “visiting” the ship on-line my wife saw the Captain’s Suite. As the saying goes “Happy Wife, Happy Life” so I checked and miraculously there was one of the two Captain’s Suites available. My daughter and her husband were pleased with the Grand Suite but I can not give any details given I did not ever see the suite. As for the Captain’s Suite, it is a bit more than two people need, separate bathrooms…? really now! Lots of storage space, large televisions in the sitting room and bedroom, lots of electric outlets and USB outlets, huge balcony with a table and four chairs and two lounge chairs and a spectacular view out the front of the ship. The room is directly above the ship’s bridge so the view is as good as the Captain’s. My wife did find the bathtub while jetted was smaller than previous suites. Food: The food was fine in all the venues we visited with the exception of the lobster in the MDR and the Seafood Shack. My wife, who is a Maine lobster fanatic found them to be, in her words “slimy”. She did find the shrimp and chowder to be very good and I have the tab to prove it. Also we are not Sushi lovers, did not find time for the tacos at the Blue Iguana Cantina or Guy’s Pig and Anchor Smokehouse. I would be remiss to not mention Guy’s Burger Joint. My two previous experiences of biting into a piece of charcoal and then a leather belt will never be forgotten. Being the forgiving type and always giving a second chance, in this case third chance, I went for it. And glad I did. THIS was what I had wanted all along. Even though it was well done, it was still juicy and delicious. I really enjoyed this burger immensely. We did dine at Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and Cucina del Capitano and both are well worth the additional fee. More of an observation rather than a criticism or complaint we have always left the dining room after eating satisfied. This time we felt stuffed. My daughter, who is not afraid of food, was unable to empty her plate on several occasions. It seems Carnival, possibly just this chef, has increased the portion sizes. Previously, we would order another entrée, go to another venue and get something more to eat, get a soft serve ice cream or simply wait till the late night dining at the Lido. None of that occurred on this cruise. Staff: The staff throughout the ship was wonderful. The bar/ lounge staff, the dining staff, room steward guest services, etc. If they ever knew our name, they would always greet us using our names. I’m not sure how they do it, sometimes I do not remember my own. Entertainment: Al Ernst is one of the funniest if not THE funniest guys I have seen on a cruise ship. Yeah, he doesn’t swear up a storm or look for ways to insult the audience or have a bunch of filthy stories to tell but he is one heck of a great comedian. Thank you, Al for two wonderful evenings of humor. The shows in the Liquid Lounge were enjoyable with very talented performers. We did find the Electric Violins in the Sunrise Lobby played a louder than we prefer thus did our drinking and socializing elsewhere. Ports/Excursions: We only left the ship at Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic. We missed this Carnival private port on the Vista in 2016 due to strong winds. We rented an Ocean View Cabana which was very enjoyable. My daughter and son-in-law rode the zip line once and decided as much fun as it was, the trek back to the top really wasn’t worth it. The pool looked very inviting and there were plenty of chairs but I really enjoyed sitting and relaxing in the Cabana with an occasional hop into the water. Getting up the ladder out of the water is quite an ordeal. I suggest a couple more rungs on the ladder deeper in the water. Pretty tough on us older folk (I’m 72) and those who may be a bit on the hefty side. On the other port days we took advantage of the pool as the ship was vacated of passengers. Ah, maybe this is when we should have visited Serenity! No pool though. Debarkation: We were told to be in the Liquid Lounge at 8:15 A.M. to take advantage of Priority Debarkation. Not sure why we had to be there when we weren't allowed off until 9:30 A.M. No coffee, juice and pastry were available as has been the case on previous cruises. Had I known, we would have had a relaxing breakfast in the MDR and been the last people off the ship at 10:30. Conclusion: This certainly wasn’t our first rodeo with Carnival and God willing not our last. Overall the cruise was great with the exceptions of embarkation and debarkation. I hope to sail the Sunrise again and take advantage of the some of the other things it has to offer. While we have been on prettier ships, enjoyed better pampering and sailed for more days we are thankful the lord gave us the physical and financial ability to go on this cruise and will have memories that will stay with us the rest of our lives. Slowed down to take a picture for memories. Boarded ship nlt 1pm and room was ready by 2pm. Met our stateroom steward, Tegum. He kept our room tidy and requests handled in a timely manner. This was our fifth time on the Pride. Our first stop was to Guy's Burger and we were not disappointed. The burgers are juicy, the extras are plentiful and the fries are just as delicious. Menu in dining room was okay, but we did try the sushi bar (the boat for Two) was more than enough, especially with soup and salad and a drink. We celebrated my birthday and Teguh surprised me with discounts for Spa and tours. We had an obstructed view balcony. Dr E, the Cruise Director was very entertaining and the highlight of the cruise. Cabin Steward Adrian was exceptional! Room was perfect-always had ice. Was very prompt with our laundry. Excellent personality, I love-love the towel monkey! Cabin 1101 was located on deck 11 on the side of the Spa and under the Serenity Deck. Only a few rooms in the hall, no cabin across from ours. Be aware that one evening is a scheduled Serenity party beginning at 11:00 pm till whenever. Thought the ceiling was coming in from all the stomping. We would have stayed up later if we had caught the event on the Fun Times. Only negative thing I can say is the meet & greet was a disappointment-close to 50 people attended, this was on the next to last day, half way through someone contacted guest services that no one from Carnival was there. Bonsai sushi and Steakhouse a must visit and guys burger joint is literally the best burger i have ever had! Some areas were a little tired but that didnt take away from the amazing holiday we had. This was my first time with Carnival and i wasn't sure if it would be loud and too much going on, but they really do cater for everyone. I know everyone is entitled to their opinions and so I always read reviews with an open mind and then I like to go back and give my experience based on my travels with the cruise line. This was our 9th Carnival Cruise. To be honest we are 15 days away from Platinum so that is our goal. Embarkation was swift and easy. This was our first VIP entrance since we were staying in a suite - and it was truly faster - but then again Carnival has made strides in improving and making this process as quick as it possible. Once on the boat - our room 7312 was ready at 1:30 as told to us inside the terminal. Our bags made it quickly to our room also. We did not buy the Drink Package (alcohol) we prefer to smuggle in Rum Runners. We did buy one over priced six pack of Sprite and Coke for mixers and a 4 pack of beer - also overpriced but a little cheaper pre-cruise. I would suggest buying and paying for as much as possible before a cruise. Tends to be cheaper and less of a bill at the end. The Internet and hub worked just fine and was quicker than experience last year on different ship. Much better and we shared on social for the adults and a basic for the two teenagers, again purchased prior to leaving. The ship was nice. It has three small pools. So we always sat between the two pools on deck 9/10. Plenty, plenty of chairs to be had by all. You should remember their is a set of stairs in Vincent's bar which leads up to the walkway where the photos are taken and you can get to the piano bar and pixels too. We watched a video on YouTube on our exact room and some tips on navigating the ship and from their it was easy. Quick to navigate in a day or two. Food was good. They repeat the menu every week so they have it down to a science. Now you can get a molting chocolate cake for the whole table if you want. Where improvements have been made are on the sit down breakfasts and the "sea day brunch". Both were fabulous to us - since we can recall the days the sit down was the same as the buffet food wise. The bagel tower and the 24 hr French toast to die for. Entertainment was good. Fun Squad was great too. We choose to interact, greet others with a smile and become a part of the cruise family for the week. Robbie, Ritchie and Jake were real, real good and funny and you could have a blast if you wanted. Don't be afraid to join them - the payoff is rich in kindness and stewardship of the cruise world and passion of the fun-ship. It truly is part of the experience. We went to Grand Cayman - did our own thing at Eden Rock and Smith Cove. Amber Cove was nice but the country is so poor looking. Belize City was again nice and the pier was great.. lots of fun things to do right there. The last tender was not good at all - took nearly and hour and a half to leave and get back on boat. Way too long. Disembarkation - piece of cake, we were in a suite so you get to leave early -but what was bad was the terminal - they had all zones of luggage kind of thrown together at some point. Not a big fan of that since with the conveyors they had made the process better.. but someone just started moving luggage cause the terminal got backed up. The cruise ship itself did a bad job keeping us posted on Hurricane Dorian. It did not affect our trip on the boat - I understand - but for some it affects/affected their lives - so they could have been more open. In closing - the ship was nice. I do not think it needs to be overhauled and updated. Staff was great and it was a good trip and vacation. In my opinion a litte homework ahead of time goes a long way in enjoying a trip. Peace and safe travels. Read Less
