We decided to book a cruise, and a couple of our adult children and their children joined in. We have cruised on Carnival many times, and always tell everyone what a great time we have, how we enjoy the service, the food and most importantly the fun! Unfortunately, this cruise disappointed. There were a few major issues: FTTF - we paid for it, and we did get on the ship smoothly but not quickly, there was some issue with getting people off the ship before we could board. Our bags showed up in the late afternoon, so no benefit there. One of our group didn't get FTTF and they waited hours to get on the ship past their appointed time. The hallways to the staterooms all had signs saying the rooms weren't ready. We went in anyway and our room was ready, but it deterred a lot of the FTTF people from going to their rooms. Disembarkation was smooth, but we self-disembarked. Dinner service was deplorable. Our table regularly waited for our dinner while others were eating dessert. We could see our domed plates sitting on the side tables, but they weren't being delivered. The effect of this - cold food. At its best warm food. On one night we had just been given our dessert when it was announced in the dining room that it was time to clear out for the next sitting. We gave them the benefit of the doubt for the first few days, then finally spoke to the maitre'd. He got things sorted out and it seemed to be smoother after that. Our last night our food was served on time and hot! I personally thought the food, although cool, was good. The steaks were delicious and cooked properly most of the time. The serving sizes were a bit hit and miss. The men often felt theirs were too small. Thought the server could have warned them to order extra. I thought the buffet selection was limited at lunch time, but we really only wanted a salad to counteract the larger dinners. The staff clearing tables etc at the buffet area were very friendly. Our cabin was very clean and exactly what we expected. Our only issue was having to argue with the room stewardess about getting a laundry bag. She insisted she had given us 3, we explained we had 1...after 5 minutes she gave us the bags. They're only paper...not sure what the problem was. There was lots going on, but the Fun Times reported wrong information a few times, which was distressing to some. All the usual antics going on to keep us entertained, but didn't like that they kept choosing the same people for contests etc. 3000 to choose from, didn't expect to see the same faces contest after contest, show after show. Bartenders. Fantastic! Learned our names and our drinks. They were the clear service winners on the cruise. We didn't do much on the shore days. We did a short private excursion at Mazatlan, the snorkelling disappointing. Save your money for when you go to the Caribbean :) We had a 6 year old with us. We couldn't keep her out of the Carnival Kids camp. She enjoyed every moment of it. Felt like we hardly saw her! As soon as dinner was over, she was asking to go back haha. That was a great help for her mom, who got to enjoy some mom time. Something that might help people with kids...remember to ask your server to have fruit or veggies or something at the dinner table when you get there every night. Otherwise little people sit for too long with nothing to eat, which makes for crabby little people. I think every staff member on the ship knew her name, and always said hello or stopped for a little chat. It was very cool for her. I'll definitely give Carnival another try since this was not our typical experience. We like the casual fun atmosphere. Get out there and have fun! Watch the contests, play trivia, sing a song. You might surprise yourself and like it! Read Less

This was our second Carnival cruise. First one was almost 4 years ago and I am so glad they improved on the embarkment and disembarkment. Before, they use to snap pictures of people when trying to get off the ship at ports right on the gang plank. Now, they moved that to the dock, much better and disembarkation went so quickly going on and off. We did have a 2 hour delay getting on in Miami which was crazy and no one ever explained to us what was going on, but you're on vacation and away from the snow so no big deal standing in the sun in Miami for us Canadians. We had a balcony and it is the only way I have cruised so far so can't compare it to anything. Room was the usual small cabin/comfy quarters but how much time does one spend in their room, right? The cabin steward kept our room clean and lovely towel animals. Use to get chocolate on pillows but didn't get any this time. We went to Grand Turks, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and St. Maarten - Puerto Rico is still my favourite place. Saw damage from hurricane's in PR but especially in St. Maarten. So sad. The planes are returning to St. Maarten. Did not do any excursions on this trip so can't recommend. Entertainment was good. Matt the Entertainment Director was great, very funny. The staff on the ship work very hard and are always so polite and friendly. The ship is kept very clean considering there are thousands of people on it. Dining, Buffets and Food: I am a plant based vegan and that was impossible on the ship unless I only wanted to eat salad every meal. I started eating vegetarian on the ship, which also was harder than you would think given it is 2018. In the dining room one evening, I was about to order the tomato soup as a starter but my waiter informed me it was made with "chicken" stock. Seriously! Then whenever I found stir fry at the buffet, it had chicken or shrimp or both. Only once I found it with just veggies. I went to the asian place for lunch and ordered a veggie stir fry and it was good, although very small. I found the selection of food anywhere on the ship terrible if you were vegetarian and for get it if you were vegan. Family I was with had lobster one night at dining and the lobster was mostly raw. I think for the amount of money I paid (and for Canadians, we also have to fly to a port), the food should be better with options that are not ALL meat, cheese and dairy. And if you make a soup that contains no meat like vegetable or tomato, use vegetable stock to make it not chicken. So many of the various salad options were loaded with mayo ... vegans don't do ANY dairy. I have to say, I was very disappointed in the food. I expected better. I contacted Carnival prior to going and mention I was vegan/vegetarian and they said talk to my waiter. One night in the dining room they made me a special meal, two pieces of broccoli, over cooked asparagus and two hunks of not cooked tofu. It was disgusting. Carnival, you need to dedicate a cook to vegetarians/vegans at meal time. Someone who can make at least one thing completely tasty and healthy. Waterslides - so much fun! Skyride- LOVED it! Summary: for us, cruising is so expensive when you take in account the airfare to get to a port, cost of the cruise, all the gratuities, extras for decent coffee or a drink and then all the expenses when you go off at various ports. I think it is cheaper to go to a resort for 2 weeks then one week on a cruise. I also think that since I have only been on Carnival, I will have to research the other cruise lines to see if they have vegan/vegetarian options that Carnival just does NOT have. If so, my cruising dollar will go to the line that does. I'm not going to neglect my health just because I'm on vacation. Read Less

i chose this cruise because I was getting off the Miracle 14 day Panama Cruise in Tampa and friends and I rented a car and drove to the Magic to jump on her the same day. I paid for my sister to be in my cabin with me and talked my other sister and her husband into going on this cruise. Needless to say they all said they would never cruise again after the experience on the Magic. Sister's Cove Balcony had such a large noise or banging that they could not sleep at night at all. Front desk sent someone and they said it was the waves and that they crew had it a lot worst than they did. Food was cold and took a long time to get to us. No chairs to sit and eat when going to the buffet. People playing cards in the chairs and on tables where the trivia activities were to be held so we cover not ever participate in any on board activities because of this. Read Less

I have been on this cruise once before and I enjoyed it the first time. I still very much enjoyed it this time as well. There were only a couple of little things that I could say were a bit of cons. One was that the boarding and unboarding took a bit long but I did appreciate the fact there was places to sit. The second thing was the muster drill. There have been other cruises I've been on where instead of doing an outside muster drill they do an inside one where you can at least sit down while the late people come strolling in with their alcoholic beverages and ice cream. But other then those small cons the dining options were great, the entertainment was fun, and everything else went pretty smoothly. I definitely have to give a shout out to some of the amazing staff. MarQ was an awesome cruise director and personally my favorite one out of all the cruises I've been on. Bernie, Eugene, and Jamar did an awesome job waiting on us at dinner time and Bernie was the life of the party when it came to showtimes in the dining room. Margaret our room stewardess was very nice and tried so hard to help us with our TV problem. The staff at the help desk gave us $50 off of our drink tab because of not being able to use our TV most of the time. And DJ Zen was an awesome DJ spinning out fun tunes till very late at night. Also I gotta say I enjoyed the time in Cabo and Mazatlan and enjoyed our land and sea excursion in Mazatlan but in Puerto Vallarta I did get a little miffed at the Cheeky Monkey restraunt. We waited for 45 minutes for nachos and a crab enchilada (both which weren't even that good) and then they told us they couldn't take visa when it clearly states on one of the signs when you walk in that they accept visa. Eventually everything was sorted but it had been an hour and that had kinda dampened our mood a bit to have to go through all of that. Another thing about the cruise I liked was our balcony cabin. Usually my mom, dad and I share a inside cabin but I can't climb up to the bunk bed so we always lay a mattress down on the floor where my mom and dad have to step over me to go to the bathroom in the night. This time with the balcony cabin they had a couch that turned into a bed, not the most comfortable place to sleep but still way better than the floor. All in all I can definitely say I had a good experience and I will be sailing the Carnival line again. Read Less

The staff was great and I enjoyed the entire cruise. Brittany kept the fun going and Ronodolph was always on the spot when needed for the stateroom. Everyone that were there to support you KNEW you by name and did a great job making everyone feel right at home. Jerome the photographer was my BFF while on the boat and kept the pictures displayed. The kids had Camp Ocean the ladies in there were very professional and attentive to the kids. My boys did not want to leave. The Dr. Seuss theme was so much fun for the kids as well as kids at heart. There was even a parade and Dr. Seuss pics. Food was plentiful and always good. The burgers are juicy and cooked fresh in front of you. Don't go on cruise to relax because there is ALWAYS something to do. When I got home I needed a couple days to rest. :-) Read Less

We just got back from our Jan. 2018 Sailing and we did have a great time. It was a rough first couple days because of the weather but the Captain did the best he could. We were the only ship to make it into our first port. I had heard that a few others werent able to get in. This was our 3rd Carnival cruise and I have to say that the food was the best on this sailing. BBQ and Guys Burgers were very good. Even the buffet food has some really good choices at each meal. The room was pretty much the same as any other carnival cruise. The entertainment was good to great. We saw all 4 comedians. 2 were excellent and 1 was good, while the other was not so good. Blanchard was one of the excellent ones and the others name was Marvin something. Our Cruise Director Matt was the best we have had. Excellent all the way around. Lines were not bad other than if you wanted good seats for the comedy shows. One suggestion for people coming on the Vista. There are not enough good seats available around the lido deck to go around, so get up early and reserve your spot. Thrill Theatre was cool and fun. Did not see an Imax but they had some good movies to choose from. Jumanji and Maze Runner. Really my only complaint was the embarkment and really there wasnt much they could do. Only one gangway was working so it took too long to get the previous cruisers off and get us on. The line was long but we are pretty patient so we got there eventually. Thank you Carnival and all the Staff for a wonderful trip. Cant wait for the next one. Read Less

This was our 21 cruise, our 3 with Carnival and it will be our last. the Elation is an older ship but was recently refurbished. Our outside window cabin on Deck 6 was on the small size. Well maintained and clean except for the window, which was leaky and glass was very dirty on the outside. Cabin was made up once a day only. We had the anytime dinning which was not easy to get in, every night we tried a different time and still experienced long lines and upto a 30 minute wait to get a table. The food terrible, mostly made up of processed foods, all the meats were tough, and the breads which are normally very good were nothing special. The entertainment around the pool was the usual and very loud. We went to a few shows only, the comedian was great, and the singers in the show were good. Service was nothing special, not one standout person, with most just doing the basic to get by. We stopped at Nassau and Freeport, nice beaches and people. Every gift shop pretty well sold the same thing. Read Less

We chose this cruise because there were multiple cabins being booked and the price was great. We selected this specific cruise because of the stop in Half Moon Cay instead of Freeport. We were taking our parents ashes to be spread at sea and the crew did a wonderful job at working all of that out for us. There were 8 of us cruising. My husband and me, my sister and B-I-L, Daughter and S-I-L plus 2 grandchildren (ages 7 and 3). This was the 14th cruise for hubby and me, second cruise for daughter and S-I-L and first cruise for everyone else. We visited the Jacksonville Zoo the day before our departure. It was a nice stop and I would highly recommend it. We found BOGO coupons on Allstate Drivewise app, which made this a great deal. The upgrades to the ship are fantastic! I am not a buffet lover, but the food in the main dining room was always good as were the burgers at Guy's and the food at Blue Iguana. We had FTTF, so embarkation and debarkation were a breeze. It was our first cruise out of Jacksonville and we thought it was easy to get to and embarkation was simple. The children loved Waterworks as well as the Seuss breakfast and Build-a-Bear Workshop. They chose not to go to the kids club, but they did great. They played mini-golf and the 7 year-old also attempted to play ping pong, but it was too windy. They enjoyed spending a little time in the arcade. Our room steward - Izzy was absolutely fantastic! We had your time dining and never had to wait long for a table. The dining room staff was good, but did seem a bit rushed, especially if you didn't get there right when the dining room opened. We don't drink, so there's no opinion on the bar staff. In room E153 we did hear noise from the galley above us, like most of the night! I will be more careful in the future when booking to be sure we don't end up right under the galley in the future. It was a great cruise and enjoyed by all!! Read Less

Able to drive to Galveston. Prices and perks. A new place to visit like Chixilub and Progreso, Yucatan. Service and food was excellent. Our servers Bagrain, Agung and wilori with table 372 in the Washington room were so warn and attentive. Having a latin band was a plus. embarkation n debarkation was excellent. The ship was old and needs a little TLC but we still had a great time. Excursions at the ports were good. we decided to hire a cab to take us to chixilub for lunch, had our meal at the Barilles, great food, service and prices. The taxi driver even gave us a tour thru Progreso and with out extra fee. the ports are very easy to maneuver out leaving the area, if you choose to go back to the ship for lunch. Progreso was a little different had to catch a shuttle to the city, but it has many taxis. it did help to know the language. Read Less
