Port close to home with easy access. Girls trip to celebrate our birthdays. Wanted to see the Bahamas as we both have seen Mexico. Price was great and reasonable. 2nd time cruising on this same ship. I love Carnival as I have sailed 4 times since 2016. There is lots of live entertainment and I love the way they donate to ST. Jude as I am a cancer survivor. They make it easy for the disabled to experience a cruise. Children are entertained with the cat in the hat. So many different perks to choose from and the staff is always very helpful. Customer service is always ready to solve any problem you may have and make sure you are taken care of to enjoy your vacation. I also love the way they appreciate the military as I am from a military family and my fiance' was 20 years National Guard. They do a meet a greet for the military and their families and give discounts as well. Read Less

We are frequent cruises and lower our expectations when necessary. The ship itself was well maintained and the food was good. Guys burgers were awesome! Room service was also very good and had many free options and the pay options were not pricey. Our room location was horrible. We were right above the metal machine shop where very loud grinding, hammering of metal and clinking continues from 7:30 am until after supper every day. I was really sick with a head cold and could not rest even with ear plugs. They offered us 150 credit at the ships shops. We got badly sunburned and the ships shop did not have any aloe or ointments to help. The cabin steward accidentally threw out a retainer that was on the bathroom shelf. It will be 500 to replace it. We are in our forties and really appreciate our afternoon rests and peace and quiet but there was none in our room. Read Less

The Elation has been kept up beautifully and she doesn't show her age. New carpeting, paint, and loving care has done wonders to keep her in her original 'glory days' condition. I booked last minute and was able to snag the last available cabin, which happened to be an ocean view on the Riviera Deck, aft, port side, just above the water level; it was fresh, roomy, plenty of storage, and even a fridge! Nice size shower with good water pressure and really hot water! The food offered at the Lido buffet was always a treat, with a nice variety, and beautiful desserts; no waiting in line during the 'off' hours. Other dining options included at no extra charge are the main dining room for sit-down-service, a burger place,a pizza place, burrito bar, and an in room service menu. There is steak-and-lobster offered in the dining room for a minimal cost, and sushi is available for purchase on the 9th deck. There is always something going on around the ship, and it's always fun to try something new. The shows in the main theater were top notch talent, accompanied by fun music, and stunning special effects. The casino is always a fun option, and cocktails are avail for purchase just about everywhere. (I attended some of the raffles, which offer free mimosas!) The service was great everywhere, the entire crew was always friendly, but not intrusive. Half moon Cay is indeed a paradise for those craving beach activities, as easy or as strenuous as desired. Nassau is the place to buy souvenirs, and $4.00 buys a taxi ride to the beautiful Paradise Island where the Atlantis Resort has made certain areas available to the public at no charge, and other areas are available for a fee. Their casino is open 24 hours, and there is no charge to the general public to stroll through, or try your luck! Having cruised over 40 times and on many different lines and ships, I find Elation to be one of my favorite for a short cruise. There are bigger ships, and newer ships, but Elation never ceases to amaze me. Read Less

This cruise was such a great time and turned out better than I thought it would. I have a few minor complaints but there were minimal compared to the awesome time we had. This ship is 20 years old but did not feel like an old ship due to the awesome upgrades it got last year. Guy's Burger Joint and Blue Iguana Cantina were perfect alternatives to the buffet which I typically try to avoid. Red Frog Rum Bar and Blue Iguana Tequila Bar were both excellent and offer a variety of drink options. All of the bars were great (get the Cheers package)! The new WaterWorks splash pad/waterslides were so much fun and even though we were the only adults on them at the time we had an absolute blast. Dining was great with excellent food and service. We did the Sea Day Brunch to enjoy a relaxing meal with excellent food but unfortunately our server was not very friendly and was very short with us. The shows were so enjoyable to watch even though they were exactly the same ones we saw last year on the Splendor. Hopefully Carnival updates them soon before we go again next year. The comedians were hilarious and were a great way to end the night. The lounges were very nice and offered all kinds of activities. I didn't really care for the night club simply because the DJ wasn't very good. The club was very nice and the drinks were nice and strong but the only music played was "gangster rap" music that was incredibly hard to dance to. Everyone on the floor didn't really know how to dance and most were standing around. I would have liked more party dance music like they play at the sail away and deck parties. Read Less

The staff is what makes this cruise so great. We werent overly impressed with the food options or the dining experience. Bar service was some of the best I ever received. We were disappointed that the pool was closed 2 of the 4 full days on the ship and the hot tubs are a joke (warm at best). Room service is great and he came to our room the first day to introduce himself (cant remember his name). Some of the best staff: Bartenders/Alcohol servers: Jose (tequila bar), wayan (rum bar; won as the best overall), surjeet (multiple bars), noel (casino bar), Marko (casino server), Arie (served on Half moon cay and comedy club), Bambang (rum bar), Atilla (pool server and comedy club) Servers: Achmad (imagination) Other: Room service guy and cam entertainment director Everyone had a lot of fun but just know this ship is small with little shopping, minimal pool time and a small casino. Dining service is good because they sing and dance but the food is disappointing. Read Less

This cruise matched perfectly my kids fall break and it was the reason we chose it. We got the extended balcony Grand Suite and had priority embarkation and debarkation. We are not heavy drinkers so we did not get any drink package and actually brought some wine in the boat. All the restaurants were really good and we did not have to wait long in line at the buffet or to be seated. There had so many activities to do that overwhelms. The evening shows were amazing as well as the comedy club. My favorites were Cam the cruise director, Neil the guitar player and Mow Mow (butchering the name) who had great voices and were able to entertain all day long. My kids love the mini golf and the water slides. They also enjoyed the kids Camp Ocean so much they wanted to go there every day (not the case when we travel to all inclusive hotels in the Caribbean). Overall it was a great first cruise for some of us and a way better cruise for one of us who had cruise before. There were great deals at the shop, the spa, the art gallery, etc, but not that much time to enjoy it all. The crew were so kind and helpful, Wayan the steward would leave nice notes with the fun towels everyday. Anatoliy performed 2 magic tricks for my kids in the dining room. Magali was so sweet and kind to my kids and family. I mean, I could go on, but they really made us feel like family and appreciated. Looking forward to our next cruise. Read Less

My wife and I were celebrating our 32nd Wedding Anniversary and we decided let's celebrate it onboard the Carnival Cruise Ship Elation. This would be our 3rd Carnival Cruise Ship we boarded; twice to Jamaica and this time to the Bahamas. The locals were kind and friendly made us feel very welcomed. We enjoyed it very much. Back on board we relaxed on lounge chairs, taking in the warmth of the sunshine, enjoying our exquisite cocktails, snapping photos, watching everybody having fun. The Carnival Cruise Crew from throughout the clean spotless shining ship were very, very friendly, helpful, and Outstanding!! From servicing our cabin, enjoying the cuisine, excellent entertainment everyday to arriving at Nassau and returning back home. Our safety was there number one priority. We were both sad as we knew we were returning back home to our everyday chores. Time just flew by. But all is not lost, because we plan on returning back to sea on another adventure with Carnival Cruise! Yeah!! Read Less

Keep in mind I have nothing to compare to, but they sure did make my first time great. The cabins were of decent size, similar to a small hotel room. I chose a cabin with the round window and it had a little nook so I could set and look out. The constantly had people cleaning the dinning buffet dining area. The main dinning room I only visited twice. It was a long wait for the main dining room. The had an app i downloaded that told us everything happening on the ship. So I booked marked what i wanted and app just sent alerts to phone.... I never missed anything i was interested in. Some food was awesome, Guys Burger Joint, and fresh omelettes. However overall food experience average, not bad, was just expecting more I guess. I didn't like the pizza at all! Overall EXCELLENT FOR THE PRIZE. Read Less

Embarkation Once we got on the boat we were informed of the safety training. There were only 18 life boats. Very clear..that's not enough. They made several announcements as to what time the training would be and the designated area. When everyone was in place..the staff wasn't. They were very unorganized. The sail away party was fun. Great vibes. My luggage wasnt at my door even after all that! My room attendant was very nice! Lee was his name. He knew my entire family by name. He gave me a $50 gift card to the spa for the inconvenience. They took my wine out of my luggage when one of the workers told us to put it there. I called member services about. One guy told me that i should have hand carried it on then a lady got on and said it was supposed to be in my luggage which it was. Its like they didn't know their own regulations. Cabin My room was okay. The only thing bad i would say is the bathroom smelled like mold. It was a family vacation so i visited all of my family's room and all of the bathrooms smelled like mold. Food The crew members that cleaned up and served at the buffet and burger area...not one of them looked happy. I honestly felt bad for them. some of the crew had to stand in line to eat like everybody else. I feel like theyre already working all day long. Carnival should have something in place to where the crew doesnt have to stand in line and wait for food. overall the food was good. The Brunch was amazing. the bartenders in the atruim were nothing less than great. Very friendly and fast. The blue iguana bartender was very rude. He refused to serve my sister because she had reached her 15 drink limit but she wasnt intoxicated. Theres no way if youre drinking kiss on the lips hrs apart. Then he laughed in her face and threw her sign and sail card back to her. Most of the elevators didnt work. So when one showed up to your floor everyone was jammed packed because it take so long to catch one. the food in the dining area did not taste too good but the servers were nice. Again it was a family vacation. We booked everything together and ensured our table setting would be together and it wasnt but they found us a spot where we could be together. Entertainment There were plenty to do on the boat. Game show night by hasbro (prizes are a deck of cards haha). Casino Dance club Spa Trivia Magic show (fake) Excursions A bit pricy Getting back on the boat in Nassau we saw the Norwegian crew singing and dancing welcoming them back on the boat but carnival crew member had a exhausted look on their faces. So sad. No singing or dancing. Besides the staff being overworked and the smelly bathrooms it was a great experience overall. Read Less

It's been a number of years since we sailed on a Fantasy class ship, but I recalled the pace feeling less frantic, not feeling crowded and having incredible service. Elation did not disappoint and reaffirmed those remembrances. There was never a venue, dining room, bar, deck, etc that we were unable to easily find a seat in. Service was generally top notched and there was always something to see, do or watch if you wanted, or a place to chill out if that was desired. The ship looks really nice after her upgrades and I noticed people cleaning on a regular basis. Sunset Patrol is the cruise rock/country/80s band. Do not miss them! Every member can sing/play beautifully. We ensured we watched them every chance we got. The Divas show was great fun! Incredible energy and great songs! The Epic Rock show was good, and would have been even better if they had had Sunset Patrol playing live music. If you want a drink during the show, I do recommend stopping at the Atrium Bar on the way in, as bar service within the theater was a bit slow and/or practically non-existent. We only made it to one comedy show and the comedian was outstanding to a point, then turned a bit mean. I don't recall the name, however, I heard from other passengers that the other comedians that were on the cruise was incredible. Seating was not an issue at all and we had no problems finding a seat. We had YTD and never had to wait to be seated, whether we chose to sit with others or on our own. Service varied a bit from outstanding to some of the worse that we have had, but overall it ranged from good to great. Even the best restaurants have an off day, and we hit breakfast one morning on one of those, however the day before had had some of the best service ever at breakfast.. so it balanced out. Guys Burgers, the taco bar, buffet were all good. The pizza.....meh. Pizza Pirate is the pizza on this ship and it's just not quattro formaggio. Room service was prompt and I waited far less time than I expected to. We spent a good amount of time on the Serenity deck and never had a problem finding chairs. Bar service was outstanding as well. There was always someone walking through checking to see if everyone was taken care of The Chef's Table was pretty decent. It was the first time we have done that. A simple tour of the galley, some pretty incredible treats, a demo on how to make melting chocolate cake - recipe provided. The chef that was the host was exceptionally happy to be hosting the dinner with lots of enthusiasm for the food and his presentation. The food was pretty good, however I was having a hard time appreciating it due to severe seasickness and I had to bow out 3/4 of the way through. Everyone else seemed to be really enjoying it though! Half Moon Cay was incredible. True powder white sand, exceptionally easy tendering, and plenty of seats. The most beautiful beach I have seen in my life! We'll go back to that one again and again without complaint. Perfect beach day! In Grand Turk we did the Snorkeling, Conch and Rays excursion. This was our second time. The seas were pretty rough that day, and they were offering refunds to those who desired, and took those of us still wanting to go to an alternate dive site. It was still incredible! The staff was uber-attentive and even in the rough waters I felt very safe. While we were not able to dive for conch, we still got to play with the stingrays and have conch salad. Absolutely incredible day!! The seas were a bit rough this cruise and I got seasick more this cruise than the last 8 combined. I'll just be sure to pack double the motion sickness meds next cruise and maybe then I won't need them at all. :) Definitely recommend this ship for a relaxing or first time cruise. You get to experience a lot of the regular bells and whistles without the crowds. Read Less

The only problem they were near the casino so some people smoked at the bar ugh!!! The show heart and soul very good. They only had 7 singers and dancers but made the shows work. The show Diva was good not great. Kevin the cruise director was full of energy and did music trivia in atrium area. He sang and performed and was so funny. The staff were very helpful. We did your time dining so we were able to meet a lot of people. We had some interesting conversations. Half moon cay was beautiful. The sand soft and very relaxing. We did not eat on the island. The ship had Guy's Bugers and Blue Iguana. The comedy a lot to be desired. Tom Foss was terrible and John Wessling was ok. Glad we didn't have to pay extra. Go to tea time in piano bar was nice. The buffet choices not great. Some of the dinners were good and some not. The prime rib fatty and wasn't good. I love it on Royal Caribbean. No lobster. Esgargot wasn't good and rabbit ugh. The salmon was good and steak was good. There wasn't a welcome back party. I am gold and all you got was a bottle of water each and 1 drink on last day after 5 pm. Pretty pathetic. We had a great cruising vacation!. First let me say to those that frown upon carnival as being the cheap low end cruise line..let me say ..cheap is not the word.. but great value, food, entertainment, service are all words that should be used.! This was our 7th cruise and our 6th with Carnival and always a great experience! The one time we did stray was with NCL and all I will say is "never again with NCL'. The recently updated smaller ship had a spacious feel to it and things that stood out were the addiotions of Guys Burger Joint, the Blue Iguana Cantina and the renovated cabins. Our food in all dining venues was delicious and served at the right temperatures! Even the fried chicken on the lunch buffet was incredibly crispy and delish! All that being said, its was the service , and crew on the ship that put our experience over the top!..special shout outs to our awesome cabin steward Nathan and our inspiriation dining room waiter Rinaldo, Excellent service from both! Entertainment on board was some of the best weve ever scene ..both comedians put on great and different routines every show.. the main ship shows were terrific with our faves being "heart of soul" and "epic rock'! our cruise director Kevin Donahue and his assistants Jessica and Emmie were THE BEST! Very fun and engaging!. Kevins love and Marriage show and Atrium Trivia sing a longs were hlaarious highlights not to be missed! and the ships Main Dj ..DJ Saxxy spun some of the best party , feel good vacation music! We chose this cruise because it was close to home and sounded like a fun get away. While it was nice weather to lay out in, there wasn't much to do. The DJ's did a great job playing music that was fairly family friendly. However, some of the games were inappropriate for children to watch. Due to the windier colder temps we stayed down on the main pool deck. During that time, we had to leave the area because the cruise directors were having a Hairy chest contest. During this contest, the men were encouraged to basically "lap dance" for three selected females whom were the judges. It was very inappropriate for children. The directors also announced that they were getting the judges for a drink mixing contest "wasted." Those were not activities for any age of kids to see and it was disappointing. Half Moon Cay: beautiful island, probably our favorite day of the cruise. Drink prices were outrageous but it was nice that there was food included on this one. The waters were gorgeous and fun to snorkel in. Dining: Wait staff was wonderful. They learned our names and were kind. They worked hard and were always happy to see us. As for the food on the ship. It got old eating the same things all the time. While the wait staff was phenomenal, the food was about a 3 out of 10 taste wise. Nice presentation but it tasted more like food from the Golden Coral Buffet just served up fancier. The options for "late night" dining were basically pizza. It was funny because they kept advertising that "middle of the night calories don't count" and you should visit all the food spots, but nothing was open in the middle of the night. Middle of the night it's 10pm to too many people. Service during shows: There were plenty of wait staff ready to take your order. Only problem was that I actually had a guy roll his eyes at me because I asked for a glass of water. Not the friendliest server. I would've gotten my one if there were other placed to get a glass of water besides the other end of the ship. Entertainment: They gave it a valiant effort for the shows. Would be nice if the bigger shows were a little more family friendly. Songs were fine, but watching half naked people dance is not my thing. They had pretty good voices. Overall production 3/5 My husband and I were excited to drop our daughter off and see one of the PG comedy shows. We had previously watched the family friendly one and it was pretty good. When we got to the second show. It was the same guy using 50-60% of the same material from the family show. I would expect a comedian to be able to have 2-3 different acts..? We left bored as we already knew the punchlines. SPA: Can we say complete and utter price gouging. almost 300.00 for an hour massage? I can join a massage club at home and have 5 massages for that cost. EVERY single service offered was VERY expensive. Kids Club: Our 5 year old daughter enjoy this very much. She only visited there a few hours during the duration of the trip, but the girls working there knew her name and kept their promises to her and even made her a sweet bracelet. Our daughter left there smiling all three times so that was a huge pus not to worry about her happiness. 5/5 for the kids program! Bathrooms throughout the ship were clean 90% of the time and we used them a lot so that was a plus. Overall community rooms were clean. Dining rooms were clean. We also so staff visibly keeping the ship clean which was nice. Only problem, on the last day we say a pile of baff with bath towels tossed over it to cover it up. GROSS i'll be brining my own towels if I ever cruise again. How'd you like to wipe your face on that towel. Prices: WOW just about everything was a complete rip off. I am not much of a drinker but did have two "liqueur" drinks on one day back to back. Now, I should have been at least feeling nice but no.. felt like I drank water and tasted like I drank juice. For the 10-15 dollar a drink charges, you should be able to enjoy 2 drinks. Also 30.00 for 4 Coors light. seriously... big rip off. Photos: Photo prices were the same, too expensive. You can't buy the size photo you actually want unless you buy the original sized one first. SO, you would have to pay 24.00 (with tax) for the standard 8x10 pic and then you can buy the 5x7 for 16.00 (with tax) Why would I want an 8x10 of half those pics? And to boot... they throw them all away if you don't buy them. Next time: take as many pics as you can so it cost them $ to print them. ha. Read Less

Wanting to return to Half Moon Cay, we booked this cruise. We sailed on the Elation 2 years ago out of New Orleans to Cozumel, and the old girl was showing her age. Her recent drydock and redo did wonders. The updates have made a huge difference in her appearance and amenities. Embarkation in JAX was smooth and easy as usual. FTTF really comes in handy by the way. The hotel we stayed at informed us they had a shuttle which was half the price as Carnival's. We arrived at the port at 1030am, and we're on board by 1115am, after a very short wait to get the ship ready for the first group of people to board. I can't compliment the embarkation crew enough. Excellent folks. Dining was good. I've ordered the flatiron steaks on 3 different ships, and everytime it's like chewing a flip flop. It just must be the cut. I won't bother again. The prime rib on the last night out you could cut with a soup spoon, and cooked perfectly. Wasn't impressed with the burrito bar, but it might just be my preference for hard shell tacos, not soft. Noticed an increase in quality for Tiffany's as well. Breakfast has really been improved. Guy's Burger Bar, who can complain? Service in the MDR was exceptional as usual. The Comedy Club was hysterical as usual, and the show in the Mikado was nice. Divas was a tribute to, well, DIvas... I must say I was half expecting a drag show, but was surprised that it wasn't. Performers were awesome. Didn't go into Nassau. Half Moon Cay? C'mon, is there not a more perfect place on the planet? Really liked the new smoking area. It's been moved to deck 11 and away from the loudness of the Lido deck, but still close to the activities there. I really wish that Carnival would put a smoking area in part of the Serenity Deck. On that note... I am a polite smoker, and I found more than once you could smell cigarette smoke in the center staircase on all the decks. Not sure if it seeped down from the casino or what, but a non-smoker might find it bothersome. Again, the thing that makes Carnival what it is, is it's staff. Everyone works so hard to unsure a good vacation. The crew on the Elation is no different. From the embarkation folks, to the waiters in the MDR, the attendants in Tiffany's, the bartenders and cocktail waiters, even the cleaners on the Lido deck. Never a frown, always smiling and pleasant and eager to make your day. Carnival I hope, understands what an excellent group of employees they have. I've already booked two more cruises on the Elation. One in January '19 for my partner and I and one in February for him, my son, daughter in law and my grandkids. I love this itinerary and I truly love these Fantasy class ships. They're not as big as the newer ones, and might not have the bells and whistles, but it is much more conducive to just kicking back and meeting new people as well. Read Less

My wife and I are first time cruisers, and the Carnival Elation was an excellent choice to get our feet wet. The embarkation was a lengthy process, even with FTTF. We were told that there were passengers who had not yet debarked and customs would not clear the ship. Once we stepped onto the ship we were very impressed. I know there are many newer and bigger Carnival ships, but I think if you are a Fantasy class ship lover the Elation fresh out of Dry Dock with major renovations is the ship for you. The food was excellent, the only down side was the Iguana Catina had weird hours which disappointed my wife, we will just have to pay attention more to the open hours. Half Moon Cay was the best part of the cruise, the beach was awesome and we spent all day laying on the beach and drinking. Nassau was a dump in the downtown area, we didn't do any excursions there because we wanted to just walk around and shop, we maybe stayed 3 hours off the ship. There were so many things to do on the ship that we maybe hit 1/3 of the activities for the 5 days We had early dining in the inspiration dining room and the food was excellent. We saw on show, and tried to do the comedy show but the place was packed and we couldn't find a seat. Keven the Cruise Director was awesome and kept us informed on everything throughout the cruise. This ship was supposed to have been recently updated but there were many things that did not work. 2-3 elevators were out the entire cruise, 2 whirlpools did not work and maintenance were replacing/repairing tiles during our cruise. There was an empty coke can and a nasty stain on our pillow case upon first arriving to our cabin. The air conditioner in our cabin quit working and required maintenance. The shows were sub par at best. The food was excellent and the shower was amazing (plenty of hot water and water pressure)! the only 2 really positive aspects of the ship. My wife and I really were disappointed We have traveled Royal Caribbean in the past and plan on using them again in the near future. We would not recommend Carnival to our family/friends and we do not plan on using them again based on this experience. The Love and Marriage show should not allow minors at all and should be a night/late night show. i know it says 18 and up recommended but there were children in there who appeared to be 5-6 years old and they should not have been in there. We had an ocean view room on the 7th deck and our window on the outside was filthy. I understand it is not east to clean the outside of the window but we were still disappointed. Overall my wife and I rate this cruise a 4-5/10 at best. Read Less

There were a few good things to mention about this cruise. The staff was very friendly and helpful...especially the wait staff in Imagination restaurant. We elected to eat here at night because their other restaurant reminded us of a cafeteria. We want to especially thank Jose and his staff for being so accommodating, and Lorinel who went out of her way to welcome us every night. We also enjoyed the day at Half Moon Cay. They provided a wonderful barbecue lunch for all the passengers. The matre di Metin was helpful when we had comments about the loud music in the dining room. The negatives about this cruise far outweigh the positives. I will mention only a few. The ship is about 30 years old and shoves it. The room was tiny...smallest we have ever been in. Crewmen were constantly sanding and painting areas while we were docked....the smell was awful. The shows at night were very mediocre. The cruise director Kevin seems to prefer loud rock to soft music. One show feature a juggle who was very good. Kevin's acts were all about trying to embarrass the audience member. The comedy acts were good but too few. The upper deck food stations were too few and very common foods were prepared. Elation should be dry docked and updated. Alternatively it should be sold or scraped. Read Less

The cruise was chosen for us by dance director, but it was perfect. The size of the boat was perfect. It was too small nor too big, we could locate each other within 15 min. Our room had 3 adults in it, we had a standard room and while times it was tight it worked well for us. The dinners in the dinning room where superb, along with our waiter. He truly new his job and treated us as royalty. The shows at night fit all our ages and were very entertaining. My oldest daughter (23) loved the comedians the best and my younger daughter (18) love the musical performances. We all attended the 80's and 90's music trivia which was fantastic. The cruise director Kevin, George and Lisa where awesome. We had so much fun talking with them. Every day we came back to a clean room which was serviced by Michael, he was also very interesting to get to know. We ate breakfast twice in the dinning room, same water and same superb service. The Tiffany buffett was also good food with a lot of varieties. Tiffany's also offers late night pizza which my kids loved. I enjoyed the ice cream/frozen yogurt. There was always plenty of deck chairs to sit at on every level. I enjoyed the top levels to watch the people and the clouds. The pool was small but they did offer two of them and an adult only pool. We went to two ports: Half moon cay and Nassau. Loved Half moon cay, we did not do any itinerary's as the beach and the ocean is plenty. The staff was awesome there too. We were feed hamburgers and hot dogs. Loved the how the staff were very professional on the island as if on the ship. Nassau is a typical port city, we shopped at the straw market and did our own walking tour to the queens staircase, fort finnicale and Nassau's historical society. This port has a lot of history and we learned a lot of it from queens to pirates. Back on the ship there was late night dance parties, veteran/military get together and even Harry potter trivia. We just get to it all and would go again to catch what we missed. We were with a dance team ranging in ages from 12 - 18 and the girls all found something fun to do. Every morning several would get up to watch the sunrise and at night they would go to a show, dance party or hang out and talk. The day they performed on the ship was great, many of the performers and crew members came to watch, along with other cruisers. This was truly on of the best vacations I have been on. This is my 2nd time cruising and my kids 1st. Read Less

We chose this cruise because our friends were looking at something relatively affordable and not bad of a drive. The ship is older and smaller, but some public areas are nice, especially the promenade, atrium, spa, buffet, and dinning rooms. Other than that, the ship is quite dated, although some decks have been redone. Embarkation was pretty straightforward, albeit parking was somewhat confusing. Debarkation, however, was awful. My party chose to roll off our luggage so we could get back home at a reasonable time. A few of us sat down at breakfast that morning in the dinning room for 30 seconds before we had to go back to our rooms for our luggage. The information sheet said that our deck would be leaving from 9:05-9:20. But at breakfast, the cruise director said that everyone had to be out of their rooms at 8:30. That information was not published anywhere nor was it on the TV. So we raced back to our rooms and got our stuff. We tried eating at the buffet but they finished breakfast up at 8:30 as well. The cabin was dated, but it was suitable for two people. If you're trying to cram 5 people into a room, get a suite. Our friends had a 5 person interior room and they were legitimately on top of each other. Spending extra money on the suite is worth your sanity. Our bathroom had some mold in the shower and a hole in the door frame. The shower also flooded the bathroom a little bit, but I've ran into that problem on every cruise I've been on. The A/C did not work at all in my cabin nor in my friends' cabins. We called for maintenance but it never got fixed. The food in the dinning room was pretty good I'll admit. It was well-rounded and it had specialty items that could be charged to your account for $20 extra. The buffet stayed crowded, and it stopped serving food at the most inconvenient times. My friends and I never ate lunch while onboard because of that. The brunch in the dinning room was good, with only a few dishes being bland. My party did not really take advantage of the entertainment onboard, we really did our own thing so I can't really speak of how good the entertainment was. The service was great everywhere. The waiters were attentive, and the cabin steward was always there to handle any question we had. However, the security personnel in the nightclub was very rude. Whenever we had a drink in our hand, we were asked for a photo id. We would give them our room keys but we were told that was never enough (even though your age and picture is in the computer). Half Moon Cay was fine. It's really like every other private island. One thing that really annoyed me was the bar on the island did not take cash, forcing you to make purchases on your account. My party walked around in Nassau and we found some places to explore, but Nassau is not really fun unless you go to Atlantis or book an excursion. It has been years since I cruised with Carnival, and the last time I did the cruise was so-so. After this trip, I highly doubt I will be sailing with them again. Albeit some of the ship's features made the experience kind of bad, but the sheer amount of nickel and dimming that Carnival does has really turned me off from sailing with them ever again. Read Less

We had a great time on the elation. This was our fourth cruise. We went with four other couples two of which were first time cruisers. They thoroughly enojoyed their time on the ship. The ship is a little dated, I would compare it to the old style vegas look. Staff was friendly and room steward was great (Harold). We stayed in an interior stateroom for this cruise and I was surprised that it was quite roomy compared to the interior cabin we stayed in on a Royal Caribbean ship. The bathroom looked like it was recently updated with great water pressure. The food was pretty good, nothing to write home about but not bad. Embarkation and debarkation was a breeze at the Jacksonville terminal. We parked across the street from the terminal ( the parking mall, I think) and we were swiftly shuttled to the terminal. It was half the price of terminal parking. As always, a cruise vacation is what you make of it and if your willing you can certainly have a great time in this ship. This was a last minute Spring Break cruise - brought 7 college kids with two of us Moms (yes, we are brave). There was a nice mix of passengers, but mainly college spring break age (between 18-23). That said, it was still a very enjoyable cruise and we met so many great college kids. This is my 8th cruise but 1st on Carnival. I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. PROS: Cost - can't beat a 5 day cruise for under $400. Also liked sailing out of JAX - easy to get too and not far from home. The crew was amazing! Every crew member we met went above and beyond to make it an enjoyable experience. Best crew we have had - even better than any Celebrity, Princess or Royal Caribbean crew. Half Moon Cay is an amazing private island - I think it is the best any cruise line has. Suggest walking all the way to the end of the cove, pretty and secluded (Food on island was not too good, but that is typical of a cruise line). We had our chairs to the right of the large pirate ship. Water was an amazing blue and temp. was perfect. We had an amazing day on the beach - took last tender back to boat which was nice because we didn't have to wait in long lines. Our comics were hilarious - standing room only every night. Wish they had moved the comics to the large auditorium vs. the small venue they were in. Because of the crowd, the comics were R & X rated. Was a treat to laugh that much! MIDDLE OF THE ROAD: I had heard food was terrible but in honesty it was OK (but not great)....I found something I liked every meal but nothing to really rave about except the made to order omelettes. Pizza was a must early evening because we had late dinner. Loved the made to order omelette at breakfast and the deli at lunch or dinner (eggs to order & deli is same location and is near the pizza area in the buffet dining room - some people didn't know it was there until the last day!). Dining room food was just so so (although loved our servers!). I don't eat fish or seafood but those at table who ordered these items gave them 3.5-4 stars. I liked the pork chops but didn't like the steak - was never cooked enough. Kale salad was good and the Chocolate Melting Cake was to die for! CONS: Smallest ship I have been on so not too many amenities. Although Size means that it is easier to find your way around..in theory (I still got lost) Ship needs an overhaul because it is very dated. We heard it is going to get a facelift soon. We liked the look of the 3rd floor - light and airy but our floor (4th) and others were dark. Hopefully, they will redo other floors to look like 3rd floor. Our cabin had ample storage for us two moms. Beds were comfy. Room was clean but showed wear and tear. Public areas also dated and could use some help. Only played Bingo last day and it was a joke - first two games were won in a couple minutes - they need to have longer games. I don't mind losing...but don't want to lose in a couple minutes. Casino was not my favorite - weird location. Suggestions: we used stairs exclusively - helped make sure I didn't gain weight. One day we got over 20,000 steps in - on a day at sea! I would cruise Carnival again but a bigger boat. Read Less

Ship is old and in my opinion should be retired... Cabin was outdated, tiles in shower are falling off the walls and very poor air conditioning. TV might as well have been an old 1970 floor model with very few channels. Reported A/C problem twice, only to be told it was within Carnival's standards. Food was below standard on this cruise. Room service (sandwiches) was the best food we had. Entertainment is the same nightly, and not very entertaining. Service was good, (bartender and steward) Enjoyed Half Moon Cay tremendously, although $7.50 is a bit high for beer. I will never sail on this ship again, and will probably just stick with Norwegian Cruise Lines going forward. Nyoman, our bartender was the highlight of our cruise. Carnival should seriously consider a different approach to disembarkation process. There is no sense in thousands of people standing in their hallway waiting to be called down to exit the ship. They seriously kick you out of your rooms only to stand in hallway with your luggage. This causes many unhappy, and irritable people. Took three hours for us to be called down to disembark. Read Less

In September 2016, we did this very same cruise and enjoyed it greatly and thought we would try it again because we wanted to enjoy some warm weather at the end of winter. Having booked this , we asked for the very same cabin we had before because of it's location to the elevators and position on the ship. This time around, the room never did get cool, the food was sub-par and the service was not acceptable. The ship itself is outdated with 70's styling and in need of updating. The activities were lacking and it seemed that the energy in the ship was just not there. The island stop at Half Moon Cay was the highlight of the cruise because it is breathtaking and should not be missed. Our favorite employee on this cruise would've been Nyoman the bartender in the Drama Bar down by the casino. He was a delight and very personable. Need more employees with his energy. Very disappointing as a whole. Read Less
