My wife and I traveled with three other couples from Indiana to New Orleans. They guys went down by train and the gals flew down. We all went home on the train. My wife and I have been on seven cruises and this was our fifth with Carnival. We were traveling with three other couples who we had cruised with three years ago. Our group generally has a great time together, so adding a train, a cruise ship and the city of New Orleans could only add to our fun. The guys arrived Sunday afternoon and checked in to our hotel, the Hampton Inn and Suites convention center. This hotel was very clean and we were able to explore the city via trolley. The girls came in late that night and we were all able to board the ship a little after 12:00 on Monday. This was the first Fantasy class ship my wife and I had been on, so we were a little nervous about what to expect in comparison with the bigger ships we had been on with Carnival. These fears were quickly put to rest as I found the Ecstasy to be a wonderful ship. We enjoyed the shows, but I do not like the fact that there are some nights with no show and they just play games like jeopardy and minute to win it. We also liked the late night comedians, but they were on the same nights as the shows, so you had to choose. In a perfect world, that could have been planned a little better. Our group really had a ball in the piano bar. I must say, this is an area I have never really frequented in all my other cruises, but we had an absolute ball in this bar. Please check out Frank if you ever get a chance. He truly made an impression on our group. Our stops were Progresso and we did the Corona beach party. I know a lot of people encourage you to go it alone in Progresso. I am so glad we did not follow that advise. There was military personnel everywhere and we were bused right to our excursion. We enjoyed the beach, the beer and the food. The girls got massages and our guide Alan brought the guys all kinds of food. In Cozumel, we did the best excursion I have ever been on. The dune buggy beach break was incredible. Our guides, Monty and Arturo took us through a small Mayan ruin, crocidiles, snorkeling, a light house and a real nice Mexican meal. The dune buggy ride was much more relaxing than I had anticipated. I highly recommend this tour. In conclusion, we enjoyed our time on the Ecstasy and I would love to sail her again. Read Less

Our main focus for this cruise was snorkeling. In Freeport we shared a taxi van ($8 pp each way) to a beautiful secluded beach at Paradise Cove Resort. The reef was 200yds. off shore so a bit of a swim but we saw a stingray, a turtle, lots of beautiful fish & coral. There was lunch there if desired--for a fee. We just took a bunch of fruit from the buffet to snack on. We were there 4 hrs. & just had a set time for the taxi to return for us. Some people just enjoyed the beach. It was so lovely to be away from the crowds on some beaches. Then on Half Moon Cay (it is beautiful too & plenty to see & do). the snorkeling was disappointing but it was wavy so we body surfed & had a good time. The meal furnished by the ship was great but a bit of a walk from the entrance after departing the tenders. We've been to Nassau many times so we stayed on the boat this time, relaxed by the pool & played "corn hole" up on the stage by the pool. In Nassau we've done a small cat snorkeling tour, or we've just walked the city up to the Queen's Staircase & fort (small fee). One time we took a city bus to Cable beach. Also we've taken a water taxi to Atlantis & just walked around inside it which is BEAUTIFUL!! You can spend as little or as much & see all the island has to offer. We really enjoyed the Ecstasy--an older, classic ship. We met a lot of great people, did "Our time" dining for the first time & REALLY liked it. The food was great, service great & as Ballroom dancers (in learning) we did get to do a lot of dancing. A young band, Samantha the singer, played a variety of music styles & took requests. Enjoyed the 2 shows & participated in line dancing at sail-off & the deck party with Mex. buffet. A cruise is always what you make it--plan to have a great time, meet new "friends" & you'll have a great cruise. I always save the "FUN TIMES"; are you looking for anything in particular? Formal night was the 2nd night, Deck party & Mex. buffet the 3rd night, Superstar Karaoke & Quest the 4th night. Carnival always has plenty to do. Read Less

I have been sailing on Royal Caribbean because of a bad experience with Carnival ]Triump three years ago. We decided to try Carnival again for a short cruise to the Bahamas because we got a really good price. We have never stayed on the lowest deck before, but we booked very late and that was the only oceanview cabin that was available. Turns out the lowest deck on Ecstacy was Deck 4 which was fine with us and turned out to be very convenient. I was concerned that the area across from our room was a space that could have been storage, but we never heard any activity at all. The room was a nice size and the bathroom was the largest we have ever had on a cruise ship and had a door on the shower instead of a curtain. The ship is old but is beautiful, spotlessly clean and well cared for. There were areas that could have smelled better in some areas, but a musty smell in an old ship must be expected. We really loved the whole cruise. Dining: There ia one dining room with assigned seating and one was anytime dining. We had anytime dining and loved it and never ate dinner the same time the whole cruise. They will seat a couple alone if you don't ask to share, which we always did. We have been married 32 years and are retired so are happy to enjoy others when dining. We always had very interesting seatmates and never had to wait in line more than 5 minutes to be seated. The food was very good to just ok but never bad. Service was not as good as assigned seating because these waiters are not dependent on your tips and critique, but was never bad. One night we had to wait so long for dessert that our seat mates left, but they eventually showed up and were very apologetic. We did not eat in the specialty restaurants. I thought the buffet was excellent and always had a big choice of non-fried vegetables which isn't always the case. Shore Tours: We never use ship tours because we are very experienced and either book online in advance or find something when we get onshore. This time we booked in advance online. I highly recommend Stuarts Cove for snorkeling in Nassau. We have been snorkeling for 30 years and this was one of the best. The boat was first class with easy entry and exit to the water. Three stops. One mediocre one fantastic, the last was to see sharks. The water was much clearer than we have ever seen in Cozumel, a big variety of fish and some pretty nice coral. We used Chad4nature in Freeport which is a local operation. We were disappointed in the coral reef on the East End but enjoyed learning to kayak and the lunch was wonderful and intend to take the West End tour next year when we go back. I like using local operations. Parking: We used Global Airport Parking at Port Canaveral. It was $5 a day and they gave personal pick up. You call them when you get your luggage and they pick you up. We were delayed because the ship lost our liquor and they had to replace it, and they waited for us without complaint. Excellent operation at an incredible price. Like I said, we'll do the same cruise next year if it is offered. Great experience. Read Less

Living in Florida, one would have thought that by now our travels would have taken us to all ports of call near us. Some how we have missed Half Moon Cay. All the reading and pictures from other reviews have been the motivation. This short four night, long weekend fit the timing. I'll fill in the hurricane thing later. We drove from Orlando to Port Canaveral on the Beach Line, (toll road) can't remember the amount of the tolls. They have added a new toll plaza. Total of three now. The construction work appears all done at the new terminal and shared parking garage. We chose the nearest parking, the open lot. 75 bucks for four night stay. Time check 11:05 AM. We walked right up to the VIP security check in. They reviewed our carry on's. 20 ounce cola, water, tea and Gatorade. One small cooler, (for ice). She shook the water and sent us to the escalator. The regular lines were very short. The VIP was over filled. We were escorted to the first available agent. Should have just gone there anyhow. Quick pit stop, then walked to the photo and "Ding" on the ship. Time check 11:30 AM The whole debate about the room being ready. The main hall way was locked. We went to the Lido, aft. Then down to the Serenity, used the back stairs to the Empress, around the corner, E228. And the cabin was ready. This was the best cabin location to get Serenity we have ever had. The Serenity area have bright yellow towels, no need to carry the blue ones from your cabin. And NEVER saw chair hogs or children. I enjoyed the theme of City Lights. They changed color, never boring. The house band was very good. Six piece band named Ecstasy Band. real simple. Ship activities. too many to do, so just picked a few. Our friends wanted a ship on the stick, so we did the digital scavenger hunt. Then tried the slot tourney. Both were on the sea day. First port of call was Nassau. With no plans for excursions, we went to Athena's Greek Diner for conk fritters. Returned to the ship and Serenity again. Half Moon Cay. It is a tender port. arrived prox 9 AM the sky was slow to show sun. The guest services escorted a small group to the tender. We were allowed to get on before the rope was opened to passengers. Good perk. Our friends rented a clam shell. I think for 20 bucks. When the sun came out, I then thought good move. I enjoyed the beach, water and relaxed. The passing of the hurricane may have eroded the shore line some. We could see a few areas where fresh sand was replaced from washout. May be some buried trash was uncovered, but minor. We dined using anytime dinning. 6:45 was perfect to miss any line. Food was quick, no delays and always hot. Did remember ribs and elegant night don't mix. I had the ribs, normal cruise attire won. Debark was good. We ate breakfast with friends, then simply waited for a few zones to clear, then walked right off. Did the self assist. Cleared customs, 10 minutes tops. We will include HMC whenever it is on the itinerary. Read Less

This was our first Carnival cruise in 4 years and it was a pleasant surprise. The last one was out of New Orleans and debarkation and embarkation were a nightmare as well as the cruise itself. This one was great. We decided to give Carnival another chance simply because we wanted to go to the Bahamas for snorkeling, and Port Canaveral was convenient to our home. We found very inexpensive parking at curiseparkingofportcanaveral.com They give personal pick up and drop off. In fact, we were delayed almost an hour getting off of the ship because our liquor purchase was delivered to the wrong cabin and they had to track it down. The shuttle waited for us because we were the only ones scheduled which was very nice. This is the first time we chose the least expensive cabin which was on deck 4. It was very comfortable and quiet. In fact, we talked to people who were on Deck 8 that paid much more whose cabin was under the stage and they could hear the whole show in their cabin. I recommend you check that out when choosing a cabin. We were mid ship and convenient to both the dining room and the buffet. This was our first time with "your time dining" and we loved it. We never had to stand in line. We had to request sitting with other couples because we enjoy visiting with new acquaintances and always got very interesting tablemates. The food was pretty good in the Wind Star dining room. One evening our dessert was very slow coming and our table mates left without it, and it did seem the service was a little slow because there was no way to grade the servers so there is no accountability. We did not eat in the buffet other than breakfast because we were off the ship every day. We did eat there twice for lunch and it was excellent. There was a big variety of unfried, non starch vegetables which isn't always the case. I thought the desserts were excellent in the dining room and the buffet too. Read Less

We decided to catch a somewhat last minute cruise. Frankly our primary motive was to make sure we have 10 cruises by the end of 2013 so we can be grandfathered into Platinum status under the old rules. The way I read it -- our Mediterranean Cruise next summer will be our 10th and so we should have Platinum status for that cruise. So off to Freeport and Nassau. We've been to Nassau numerous times so we did not book an excursion. We ate lunch at a second floor restaurant on Bay Street. We highly recommend that you check out "where the locals eat" which include these second floor restaurants. On another trip we ate at a "local" place near Junkaroo Beach. We then walked to the Queen's Staircase. It was worth the trip and yes, there were people who imposed upon you to tell you the story of the staircase and ask (openly) for a donation but it was worth it. We skipped going in to the Fort and then we walked back downtown. We stopped at the historical society which was small but had an interesting display and then we walked back to Bay Street to the Rumcake Factory. Frankly I think they ripped us off there -- the sign said buy a medium or large and get a small free and I believe they charged us for both and they kept the detailed receipt. We briefly walked through the straw market which can be a good place to shop if you can ignore the "high pressure" and just look for what you want. There are also plenty of vendors in the plaza that you need to walk through getting on and off the pier. Freeport. If you want to do anything in Freeport, book an excursion. We were going to take the bicycle trip but due to a last minute injury we didn't sign up for it. So we took the taxi to Fort Lucaya and basically wasted two hours and $20. As for the ship. Nothing negative but not our most positive experience either. I think they started embarkation a bit late because the line didn't move for a while when we first arrived. However once we got through security it went smoothly. There were two ships in port and the Ecstasy had the "old" dock. (We arrived back at the new dock). They did the Safety Briefing in various lounges and then brought us up by the lifeboats. We did something similar on a Princess ship but never before on Carnival. It was more comfortable than just crowding together by the boats. This ship was somewhat recently renovated. It has a different layout than most of the other ships. We embarked onto the 7th level and most of the guest rooms were at that level and lower. The main public areas were on the 8th level and above and there was only one of those levels that went through the entire ship. The adults only Serenity area was a little hard to get to but that was good as well because it wasn't crowded. We discovered late in the trip the that one hot tub was warmer than the other. It appeared that the fixed seating dining had mostly large tables which is what we like. We like to sit with other travelers. The anytime dining which is where the sit-down breakfast and lunch were served had smaller tables. A few non-critical staff errors lead me to believe that this boat might be utilized for training. Our housekeeping staff was very friendly but they seemed to be always coming back because they forgot to do something. The staff member for the "next cruise" desk did not speak into the microphone during her presentation (even though she was reminded many times and lots of people walked out because of this). The entertainment staff wasn't overly enthusiastic and just seemed to want to do their job and "get going" -- one morning I arrived at 9:35 for 9:30 trivia and they were already on question 17 and others said that that was happening frequently. The ship did acknowledge that it was Chanukah and had a menorah lighting on the schedule. They brought out a nice spread of latkes, sour cream, applesauce and fruit. However the neither the assigned kitchen staff person or entertainment staff person were given any briefing about the holiday or traditions and the entertainment staff person was consistently late. Because there was no staff person there, we saw many people sort of wander by like they wanted to stop but then then kept going. Our holiday ended Sunday at sunset but because of lack of explanation about the holiday, they still thought that Sunday night was holiday and put out the spread again that night. I appreciate the effort but it could have been better done or skipped. Debarkation went smoothly for those of us who did self-assist. They did want everyone out of their rooms by 8:30 so I'm not sure if this caused problems for those with higher zone numbers for regular debarkation. One glitch which I'm sure will be resolved, we just received an email acknowledging that we were now in their "red" program after taking our first cruise with Carnival. This was our 9th cruise and we are almost Platinum. They email showed a different VIPF number where our proper number and status was on all our other paperwork. I'm sure they will get it resolved. All in all we were looking for a few days rest and that's what we got. So it was a Fun time on the Fun ship. Read Less

We booked this cruise to celebrate our son's graduation. For 4 travelers, we had 2 Ocean View cabins on Deck 5 (Main) and were very pleased with the location and the big window. We usually book a balcony, but this was fine for a short cruise. There are a very limited number of balconies on this ship. This cruise was the winner of the easiest boarding process. It was also the winner of the easiest disembark process. We really liked all of the seafood offered at both the dining room and Lido Deck buffet locations. It is always fresh. I actually got the salmon 4 nights in a row in the dining room because it was so hot and fresh. The two 23-yr olds liked the ribs, steaks, and lobster. They also tried the chocolate melting cake and baked Alaska for the first time and thought they were the best. We also received room service twice for breakfast and it was right on time and consistent as usual. Again, the smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese and capers is very good. The younger guys ordered cereal, yogurt and fresh fruit. As far as service, we thought it was all excellent as far as dining, cabin maintenance, and room service. We spent some time each day on the "Serenity Adult Only" area on the back of the ship. The 2 whirlpool tubs are too crowded. Carnival should put some time limits on how long passengers can stay in there. One group of 9 stayed in there for 2 hours and they were loud because they were drinking a lot. One whirlpool was hot and one was luke warm. There was no problem getting a lounge chair and they had an attendant who checked out big yellow beach towels for that area. We ordered drinks and thought that they were very weak (Mojito and Hurricane)and not worth the price. A "Classic Mojito" is $8.75 with 15% gratuity ($1.31) for $10.59. We ended up going with a bucket of Coors Light 16oz. for $25.41. The shows were good and the comedians were hysterical. Best overall: Food and Service Worst Overall: Whirlpools Read Less

First I need to say that I was very excited to go on this cruise....I had heard so many raves about cruising, the food, the fun, etc. We had never been on a cruise and let me tell you .... I am not sure we will ever cruise again. The food on this ship was terrible!! Hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken nuggets for lunch by the pool! Terrible...not one dessert that was good except the chocolate melting pot..the cakes were dry, most desserts were some type of jello or pudding. Fish entrees at dinner DRY DRY DRY...the Caesar dressing tasted fishy! way too much anchovies. It was like eating at a college cafeteria..in fact possibly worse. As far as activities go..unless you like to gamble, go to bars or drink there aren't any! $20 just to play bingo by the pool! The only positive thing I can say is that our cabin steward was FABULOUS - Deway was friendly, knew our names from the 1st night, made us little towel animals each night when he made down our beds, kept our room spotless! Nassau was fabulous...went to the RUI Palace for the day Freeport - tourist trap! Read Less

I like to give detailed reviews on my cruises because the more detailed it is the more helpful I think it would be for other cruisers: We went to the C. Ecstasy from Oct. 30th - Nov. 2nd/2015. FOOD: The food on the main dinning room, as always, was outstanding, the service was very slow but the food was delicious; the food on the buffet was OK, but the breakfast on the buffet was AWFUL; this is my 3rd cruise, 2nd with Carnival and the breakfast on this ship was the worst in the world, everything tasted like carton, get away from it!! The buffet during the rest of the day was very good, the ice cream machine is perfect and so was the pizza! They are both very good!! Buy the CHEERS! program, is totally worth it and there are servers anywhere so you can get your drink fast! ENTERTAINMENT: The shows on the theater were very low quality, the first night show was OK but the rest of the shows were extremely boring and you can notice that on how empty the theater was; Carnival needs to invest a little more on their entertainment; the casino was fun and so were the rest of the bars; the nightclub was so much fun! they always had good music; I didn´t like that the bars on the pool closed so early; the hairy chest contest was very fun! SHIP: We were a group of 8 people (6 new cruisers) accomodatted in 2 oceanview stateroom on deck 5. The rooms were perfect, very comfy and perfect for 4 people; it was clean and the a/c was perfect; our steward, Rachel, was very nice and she made our room once a day in the afternoon; I wish she left us some animal towels since it was the first cruise for most of the group and I wanted them to have a great impression. The ship was old but very clean and very well maintained, you can barely notice that the ship is over 20 years old. The ship is very small but there are many things to do on board. STAFF: Most of the staff was cranky and rude, I hated the bar tenders, servers on the main dinning room and the staff taking photographs, they need to improve their attitude or leave the ship; the people on the shops are very nice and funny (Jose from the liquor store and Juan from the gallery/accesories)! The director Adam is so so, nothing special. NASSAU, BAHAMAS: I was a bit dissapointed from this place, probably because our tour guide sucked, she took us to the poor areas and never let us get off the car to take photos, she was a little slow and didn´t know much about Nassau; we wasted a lot of time with her, but at the end we ended up going to JUNKALOO BEACH were we had a BLAST! You have to spent your afternoon in CRAB-N-TING, their server, ASHLEY is the best in the whole world! She is so much fun, her service was outstanding and they treated us like kings! Best time ever plus you get to put your own music, they have speakers for you using bluetooth. At night we went to a nightclub located in the ATLANTIS Hotel and we had so much fun, just be careful because the club has a cashless system and is very expensive, but the people and music are so much better than anywhere. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: I had a lot of fun with my friends, we partied a lot, met fun people and we ate a lot; the ship is old but you cant really see it, its very well maintained but still I would never go back to a small Carnival ship, I prefer by far the newer and bigger ships from Carnival; most of the people on this ship is very ugly, so have an open mind, just have fun, drink it up and laugh it off! Everything was almost perfect; I love Carnival, just a few details like the shows and the breakfast, they suck. Thank you again Carnival !! See you soon again!! Read Less

I don't even know where to begin. First let me start by saying, typically we only cruise on royal caribbean (one of the most amazing cruise lines) but we decided to give carnival a shot. I can say 100% they blew there shot 110%. Very outdated. Disgustingly horrific customer service. Every staff member on board was rude and and absolutely no knowledge of anything we asked and barely spoke good english. There was food in the hallways from room service and it took them at least 1 day and a half to remove it. We had bugs, mold & mildew in our shower. I myself can understand a mistake or 2 but once we discovered dirty/used gloves on our bed from the state room attendant cleaning toilets showers and anything else that was the end of our belief in ever cruising with carnival again. Then the next day we discovered the state room attendant broke my wife $300.00 sunglasses. Their excuses was "we provide safes in each room, you guys should have used it". So i guess we aren't allowed to set our personal belongings down anywhere safely on carnival cruise lines. The on our last night we discovered what looked to be either old dried up blood or poop on our sheets. So basically the bottom line is, if your looking for cruises to attend, trust me when i tell you to stay far far away from carnival. If you have never cruised before you may not know the difference between good and bad cruise line service. So you need to take other peoples word for it in order to avoid making the mistake. It may seem like they have better prices than other cruise lines but with carnival your going to get much less than you bargain for. Look into royal caribbean cruise and you will be much happier with the results of your vacation. Carnival has absolutely not one single benefit on royal caribbean. Even a man had a heart attack and past away while cruising and it took medical response a very long time to show up. I know because my mother was the one performing cpr on the guy before they showed up. Read Less

While this cruise/ship is not the most elegant, it certainly is a lot of value. Our cabin was quite adequate (an inside cabin) as we spend very little time in it. The food was quite good, especially in the dining room, but it is not quite as good as on previous Carnival cruises. We found the staff to be excellent. They were quick, competent, and remarkably friendly. The entertainment is quite good in the main show room, the comedy club, and throughout the ship. The ports of call (Nassau and Freeport) are a couple of our favorites. The convenience for us (we live in the Charleston, SC area) is especially good, and the staff at the terminal is remarkable. They got us on board quickly and put us in a great mood right from the beginning. What more could you ask for? My wife and I will definitely be going on a lot more cruises on the Ecstasy. Read Less

I wasn't super impressed with the cleanliness of my room, to be honest. There seemed to be some dust, or maybe mold - the first night, my nose was going crazy. Also, aren't cruises supposed to have a ton of entertainment? I feel like I was waiting for events the whole time. The food was okay. The breakfast was great, even though my girlfriend didn't really bother eating most of the stuff that was served. The dinners we found to be great. We weren't exactly "impressed", but we at least enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, so we have nothing really to complain about this. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the music! There were live bands, and we actually got to hang out with one of the guitarists after their set. He was super cool, and he kind of made the trip worth it. We also appreciated the nearby parking with Instapark once we got back to the mainland. Overall not a bad time, but not really impressed, to be honest. Read Less
