We selected let Carnival choose your room and save money. They gave us an inside room, no window s, no seating area, 2nd. Floor above the engine room!!! We paid the same price for that room as our other friends that were on the 9th floor with a sliding glass door and balcony, plus a sitting area!!!!! This is unfair pricing!!!!!! We absolutely did. To sleep due to the noise. We complained and this fell on deaf ears. They could have cared less!!!! I was told, once I was told my room assignment a couple of days prior to departure, it was a sold out cruise. They told me the only room available would cost more t(an a $1000 more!!!! So disappointing. Bartenders on this ship were rude also. They appeared bored. Made terrible drinks!!! The buffet was poorly planned. Long lines, terrible food!!! All the food was substandard, entertainment was like watching a junior high musical. The only good thing I can say about this cruise is the cruise director seemed to be very good and talented. I WILL NEVER GO ON A CARNIVAL CRUISE AGAIN!!!!!!! Book Royal Caribbean!!!! Or, better yet, save your money and book a VIKING European cruise!!!!!! Read Less

Getting on the ship was great ... and that’s the only thing !!! They lost our luggage, we went looking for it ... found it on a different floor sitting in the hallway. Buy the way they didn’t even care that it was missing. Never a letter to all the staterooms or anything. But thank the Lord we found it. Next .. room Stuart was horrible barely cleaned. Had to always call if needed towels or ice or toilet paper... ect... The ship rocked the whole cruise ... THE WHOLE CRUISE !!! It was awful!! We DID NOT have bad weather either. Casino was fine.. the waiters were great in there. The dinners were just ok. The comedy was funny. We did go to Grand Turk and Amber Cove and the ports were great as always !! We will never go on this ship ever again !!! We wrote to Carnival.. but haven’t heard back from them yet. Maybe we should try another cruise line just because of no response. Think twice about getting on this ship. Better yet.. just don’t do it !! Read Less

My husband and I were on the Carnival Magic for the second time (first was August 2018). We took this cruise to celebrate both our 45th birthday. This was our 11th cruise, 10 with Carnival and 1 with RCCL. Overall ship maintenance. 1. The most important issue (I think) comes from the A/C system! We've been roasting in our cabin, mislead by the guests service who called maintenance even though, that we learned later, they knew it wouldn't be fixed. Other passengers complained about it too and we all been told the problem would be fixed the next day but never happened. There were also some public areas where the A/C was barely to not working at all. Again, when people complained they were told that there was no problem! 2. This ship is way more rusty than all other ships we've been on, regardless of the class and age (we've been on Fantasy class, Conquest class and Dream class). 3. Throughout the week we could smell sewage odor in differents part of the ship. The first evening it was stronger in the Atrium and when guests service crew were asked about it they pretended not to smell anything and reply they would send someone to spray with air freshener! 4. Windows were so dirty that we couldn't take pictures through it. In the past we could see crew members hanging around the ship at every port of call to clean the windows and ship. By the amount of grime accumulated it seems like it's been a while since they did. 5. In the Lido dinning room, over the tables, there is air vents with nothing to prevent dirt from falling. Food and drink... 1. We noticed a very big decrease in the quality of the food. I'm not saying the food was not good but the quality and taste in general wasn't what we normally see with Carnival. On the other hand we tried the steakhouse for the first time and it was amazing! 2. The water available on the Lido from the drink fountains tasted terrible and the limonade was way too strong. We've been drinking the ships water and limonade since our first cruise and never experienced something like that. 3. For the first time on any of our Carnival cruises, the service in the dinning room was average, at best. We experienced on our previous cruises excellente and personnalized service but on this particular one we felt neglected and rushed. Housekeeping 1. Our stateroom stewart was really nice and was doing a great job. When we told her about the room temperature she managed to find us a fan despite being rare due to the large number of cabins with A/C issues. She even wrote a special note on the mirror for our birthday. 2. From the public restrooms to the dinning rooms and the corridors, everything was really clean. Entertainment and activities 1. The playlist production team was fantastic. It was their first week on the Magic and we couldn't notice any hesitation or discomfort between them. 2. The Cruise Director, Leigh, was doing a great job. He is enthusiastic and easy to approach. 3. We tried to go to the Punchliner comedy club 2 or 3 times but the club was already packed 30 minutes prior to the show or the line up to get in was so long we coudn't get in. Ports of call 1. Half moon cay, as always is a nice stop. It's a perfect beach and relaxation day. The only thing I would say is there is not enough umbrellas. 2. Grand Turk was also really great. It's a really great place for people who enjoy snorkeling without spending big money on an excursion. 3. Amber Cove is a beautiful place with a pretty nice pool area. There is 2 waterslides that you can access for free and a zipline for which you have to pay. In conclusion, I do not recommend the Magic until it has undergone major work. As for the ports of call, if you enjoy a lot of beach and pool these places are for you! Read Less

We had 3 rooms, a group of 10. We have sailed with Royal Caribbean and decided to give Carnival a shot this year; what a mistake. Everyone who worked on this ship looked mad all the time, employees would run you over, would not get out of your way when you were walking throughout the decks, pool areas and dining areas. The bartenders looked miserable and angry all the time, it was evident they did not want to be there. We had purchased the Cheers package, and yet the bartenders tried to limit every single thing you could order. If we ordered a drink, and didn't want bottom shelf liquor, we were told no, or just completely ignored until we had to demand the bartender to make our drink the way we wanted. After going back and forth with the bartender, we explained, per Carnival policy, you're allowed to have a drink of up to $20, therefore, allowing us to have top shelf liquor drinks. Although you are limited to 15 drinks per day, we were able to reach 11, and we stopped due to the fact they were using so much syrup, it would literally have your stomach hurting (by the way, not even tipsy off these drinks, very suspect). The Food: Absolutely horrible. The best food on this ship was the brisket from Guys BBQ and the burgers from Guys Burgers. The buffet was an absolute joke, the dine in was the same horrible food they were putting on the buffet. The pizza, well lets just say, that pizza didn't live long enough to make it to the oven, it was so dry and over cooked. Then comes desert; nobody can mess up desert, right? Well, Carnival Breeze even managed to mess up the desert, which was also disgusting. Hey, at least the Ceaser Salad was good. Instead of just hopping on here to leave a bad review, I did contact Carnival directly to inform them of our experience and also all the other passengers who were mummering about the horrible experience. I wanted to let Carnival know directly so that they could focus on what matters most. Some times, it's all about changing the small things to make big experiences matter, like a smile when you are being served, having a bartender who not only smiles, but listens to what you want. Friendliness was the main factor missing from the experience, and it was very odd that it was the entire ship. This experience just didn't feel like a 7 day vacation, it felt like we were a nuisance to everyone and really felt out of place. Unfortunately for Carnival, this will be my last cruise with them. I will gladly stick with Royal Caribbean as my experiences with Royal Caribbean are just what their name says, Royalty. Our group is also considering Norwegian as we have heard amazing things about them as well. Read Less

I chose this sailing for smaller ship size and ports. The service for the past few cruises has declined due to massive cutbacks in personnel. This effects the customer and turnover rates. This last sailing, I actually got a steward who verbally insulted me, made up the room only twice in one week, never brought the one item we asked for (ice), left our clothes at the laundry (we sent out 2 bags) for half our sailing. Leaving us dirty clothes to wear for half the week. Turnaround is supposed to be same day. We called down to laundry and were told they were ready same day but stew "forgot" to pick them up. Service in MDR - forgot what we ordered every single night. Only 4 at the table. MDR not busy. Cabin: toilet not flushing on arrival. Fridge DOA. Service in casino - more often than not - had to go to bar and get it myself. One guy tipped a waiter $100 bill just to make sure he would get service that night. Found out Carnival now only gives free vouchers for free cruise if you're in the top 5-10% of "whales" spending in casino. One guy I met spent 30,000 and didn't get one..he got free drinks in casino. That's it. So the little guy and the middle income people..unless you are one of the ever increasing few that gets incredibly lucky..u get nothing but maybe free alcohol. The rich will get the comps. Food was just ok overall. Embarkation was horrible. It was searing hot. A 2 plus hour wait in the heat without water (you're not allowed to have water in bags to get on this cruise line to go through scanners). People were dropping bc of heat..While Royal Caribbean stood outside handing out ice water to its customers..knowing it was too hot for them to be out there without some hydration. Shore excursions not booked through Carnival. I'm done with Carnival. Never ever again. Read Less

Worst cruise i have ever taken. First night no fresh towels, watered down drinks, had cheers package told i couldn’t have Tito’s when i had it previous days. Cold dinners, lastly had a massage and showed up for my time and they tell me they changed it to 30 minutes later. The massage was the worst the lady was pulling my hair. Bartender at the casino avoided me every single time then when i asked for a drink for my husband and myself he said my husband needed to be there even though i had his card and have always gone and got each other drinks. When i met manager all they simply say is sorry. I was offered a steak dinner and 20 minutes extra massage but literally it was something everyday. Please do not go Carnival. Spend the extra and go Royal Caribbean. Well they are mAking me write more to input review so here it is. Read Less

The food was horrible. One in our party was vegetarian and the choices were slim to none. Same Indian vegetarian meal in dining room every night. The food in Lido restaurant needs to be labeled better. There was a pasta dish that looked like regular pasta with marinara sauce. After asking found out all the pasta sauce has seafood base. There seems to be no care given to people with dietary restrictions or needs. They have these hateful ladies (aka crumb patrol) in the Lido restaurant. They get in line right on top of you and clean crumbs the whole time you are in line. Felt very unwelcome. Hot tubs are not hot. I’ve had warmer baths. The temperature control in the cabins on deck 7 were horrible. I’m cold natured and I couldn’t get cool the whole trip. Then I saved the best for last. The muster safety drill! We had to stand outside sweating for an hour (because of waiting for late people), for a five minute safety drill showing how to put on a life jacket. The guy doing the demonstration in muster station F was so short we couldn’t see him. People were about to pass out from the heat. This was my 3rd cruise and my worst. Read Less

I hate to badmouth, but I have no choice but speak my mind and speaking only about this Carnival ship, not the rest. You charge us that kind of money, we expect first class all the way! One engine was bad when we left and stabilizer didn’t work and rocking so hard, people vomiting and running to buy Dramamine! We were suppose to go to Dominican Republic and Turks and Caicos and we didn’t have enough power because they knew that when we left Port Canaveral and were diverted to Nassau instead. Why didn’t we wait and get the parts and fix it and be delayed a few hours, everyone on board was asking? Took two days to get back to Port Canaveral on one engine from Nassau. Food mostly cold and elevators took sometimes 10-15 minutes! Only bright spots was Cruise Director Chris and Guy Burger was hot and good! We spent a total of $3000 for the cruise and SW plane tickets and got one day in Nassau and water was rough on all beaches and lifeguard blew the whistle and told us to get out of the water. We paid for 5 days and drove around on one engine for 4 and never saw Dominican or Turks, plus my husband and I work for a contract company and you don’t work, you don’t get paid! Carnival offered us half our cruise fare toward another cruise. Hubby said pass! We went to Nassau last cruise and husband didn’t like it and said no more, so where did we go! My hubby said no more Carnival because the ships are too old and unkept. People smoking outside our balcony room and the whole ship smells like smoke and people smoking everywhere. He has asthma and had to use his inhaler quite because he had problems breathing with all that smoke! I told several security persons about it and just walked away? I been on different cruise lines and food was hot and ship looked kept up. Rust spots everywhere outside around pool and deck areas. Need to sell this ship and order another one. I’m going back to Royal Caribbean! Also, it was our 40th wedding anniversary cruise on the HELLation! Carnival got the gold mine and we got the shaft! Read Less

Our first full day at sea the ship broke down and the captain decided that taking us to the Bahamas for a day would make up for a 5 day cruise to Amber Cover and Grand Turk. The food was horrible and half the elevators didn’t work most of the cruise. Carnival felt they were doing us a favor by refunding $100 to each person with 50% off our next cruise. It wasn’t my fault the ship was old didn’t have the ability to make it to the destination. I asked for a refund and was told that I signed a disclaimer and wasn’t entitled to a full refund. Carnival also felt that one day in the Bahamas was just as good as a two day to the Caribbean. We floated out at sea for three full days with nothing to do. It was the worst experience with a company that states they provided quality care and travel. Carnival only cares about making their money and not about the cruisers that help pay their salaries. If your reading this don’t use carnival for your vacation, spend a little more money and cruise on a reliable liner that will actually get you to your destination. The crazy thing happened, the ship started working miraculous when we were getting off the ship. They were preparing to take the same broken ship back out to sea that couldn’t even get us to our destination Read Less

First I would like to state i rated a 1 because there were no minus buttins to select. We chose this cruise to celebrate our wedding honeymoon because of the destination from Port Canaveral to Turks &Caicos, and to Amber Cove D.R. Unfortunately this didnt happen and we ended up in Nassau Bahamas. The itinerary was switched after we were disembarked on the second day. The ship had mechanical issues our balcony door to our suite was broke and therefore impacted the air conditioning and refrigerator in our room. Secondly, prior to boarding our ship we had to carry our luggage to the top floor of the ship ourselves as we were informed Carnival dismisses their porters at 2pm daily. We did not get what we paid for nor did we enjoy this cruise. The staff seemed to not care and are powerless to try and accomodate for our losses. Carnival ruined my honeymoon. If your lokking for luxury this is not the ship nor the cruiseline you want to select. My husband and I are so sorry we didnt cruise with Norwegian as we normally do. Read Less

My family and I just returned from the 5 day Exotic Eastern Caribbean on the the Carnival Elation. Let me 1st start off by we never made it to any of our designated ports. My family and I have cruised a lot over the years and this by far was the worst cruise we have ever been on. This ship is older even after been refurbished in 2018. There is not a lot of activities on board, the staff is very unfriendly especially at the bars and Pixels. The pool is very small and the serenity deck has no pools only 2 hot tubs that the water was always freezing. We stayed on Deck 14 and the entire time we were on the ship there was only 1 working elevator on the ship that went to Deck 14. And half the time you had couldn't get on the elevator because there was a group of teenagers who were constantly joy riding on the elevator. The food on Lido was not great, and every time we ate at the dining room we were rushed by the staff. And if you purchase the alcohol package the drinks are very watered down. From the time the ship departed on Sat the entire ship was rocking. So badly that passengers were experiencing motion sickness. We departed on Sat 9/21 and was informed on Sunday that due to the ship experiencing mechanical problems we will not be docking at any of the designated ports. We were re routed to Nassau on Monday to see if the ship could be repaired, and left on Tuesday morning with the ship still not being able to be repaired.. There were no excursions offered by Carnival in Nassau because of the previous hurricane in the Bahamas. We were informed that we will be compensated with $100 on board credit per person and 50% off a future sailing. On board credit which you had to use on there ship, so in reality we got no compensation. I fully understand that sometimes issues comes up beyond our control, but I also believe in being treated fairly. The compensation we received for this cruise was terrible considering the hassle we went through. At no point and time was it any of the guest fault that the ship had mechanical issues. Carnival needs to step up and give all there guests that was on this sailing all a better compensation. My family and I probably would not consider Carnival for our next cruise unless we get some other form of compensation for this sailing. This ship needs to be retired it's old and outdated with just too many issues! Read Less

What a complete joke of a cruise. The ship is completely outdated, the food is subpar and not being able to actually go to your destination makes it a very frustrating experience. There was a billow of black smoke pouring out of one side of the stacks as we were about to depart. I knew something was wrong right away. Then the proceeded to take us into 10-15ft swell while telling us that we're not going to make our destinations due to engine problems. Incremental weather I understand but engine problems? I'd that's the case refund us instead of offering some measly ship credit. They should have decommissioned this ship because everything about is old. The pool holds 50 people max with a 2000+ people on board. The 3 jacuzzis are smaller than my bath tub at home and the decor is something out of an 80's movie. Somehow the stars on Cruise Critic show 4 but you can see its actually less than 3.5 stars..... Read Less

First, as so many other reviews let’s start with the fact that they knew this ship was having issues before we left the port and they decided to take off anyway. With one engine working we didn’t go to our designated ports of DR and Grand Turk but instead ended up in Nassau. The refrigerators were not working. The elevators were malfunctioning. The ship was rocking terribly. And for some one who is a frequently cruiser even I had to take some Dramamine. Then to add insult to injury late night past the time that housekeeping should be coming in room an attendant decided to come in my room and stand in the doorway until I awaken out of my sleep and ask him why he’s here. There was roaches in my cabin when I notified guest services of the security issue with “Mr late night peeper” and the cockroach I was insulted by offered a bottle of wine or a steak dinner. Have travelled with carnival in the past and it has been generally good and the dates of this trip worked for me. Let me say quickly that the ship was not up to the usual standard. Food not as varied as previous cruises and the ship looked wore and tired. However the main reason for writing was the fight that broke out in the Tiffany dining room on the 4th night. After a small period of rasied voices one person raised a chair above his head and smashed it into another person's head. This wasn't the end of it. The same person was going to hit the person again had he not been stopped by other guests. Security was called. And it took them some time to arrive at the scene by which time the culprit had left the scene. I did speak to security as i was a witnes to the crime and they showed no interest in me giving a statement and description of the assailant. Therefore for me as a guest, sercurity, passenger safety, and the risk this posses to vunerable peoples safty (a child was in the area and several disabled perople were in the area) leaves me with great concern about carnival attitude to the crimes committed on board. The passenger was taken to the hospital part of the ship and there didnt appear to be any police presence whe we arrived back at dock at the end of the cruise. With that being said i will never book with carnival again and advise others not to do it. I await carnivals response to this. If there is one. Also on a final note about security, let me not dwell to much on the issue with marijuana being smoked on board. Especially previlant on deck 11 the family area. After explicitly being told not to, what was sechrity doing about this. Again await carnivals response to this. Read Less

Of variety, I like the crusero, but in this one I am disenchanted, because I saw things on board that I did not like, first long line to be able to eat, in the buffet, second cockroach we found inside the dishes and rates, the air in the rooms they turned it off at night, and it was very hot, the floor of the crusero is bad, you can stumble and fall, I saw it happened to a lady, you must have the video and see that, there are no good hygiene, we went to the restaurant a la carte and the water had very disgusting white argo, that made me go hungry, in a nutshell they should be more careful, I think there are very few personal paravtantas people, the meals need children, it is not that it is exacerbating, but There are many lack of children, sometimes the dishes and glass are dirty as they washed it, the rooms smell bad sometimes, the drink is very restricted, many pockets in that crusero, caramba put more varieties of juices ,,,, ,, Is it so expensive ??????? by God pure lemonade ,,, ,,, and if they put different it is necessary to go looking for it because it is a minute and it is over, ,,,, in short I am very disenchanted ,,,,,, it was better to stay on land ,,,, they must change, ,,,, and so we will be happier on board !!!!! We are a gold level member of Carnival and had completely STOPPED using them after 2 bad experiences back to back in 2017. We decided to give them another try on our honeymoon cruise this week (currently writing this while on the ship, last day) and honestly it was a mistake to even entertain the thought of coming back. For the last 2 years we have been using Norwegian and LOVE it. Much higher class, much better service and better maintained. First, I want to state that we are in our 30's and 40's and are generally easy going and RARELY complain. (We are not the typical nagging customer "looking for a handout" complainers) so please know that everything I put here is the truth and not exaggerated: (see pics as well) The hallways and stateroom areas are not patrolled and quiet time or rules are not enforced, at all... period. Ever. We have had to call security 3 of the 5 nights of this cruise due to EXTREME noise from drunk, loud groups congregating and socializing in the hallways at 1 and 2AM. I recorded videos on 2 of the nights just to show security and guest services. Literally groups of 4-7 people were allowed to stay in the hallways just outside staterooms and LOUDLY socialize, yell, laugh and drink. A dozen different bars upstairs but they were on deck 6 which is ALL staterooms acting out. In speaking with the people at our dining table we learned that this was also the case on other decks and one couple even demanded another room after calling security and guest services didn't correct the issue. You can hear every noise through the walls on the Elation as well. The guests next door to us had 2 children, with names I could not pronounce but I knew their names... How? Because you could clearly hear them through the walls. The ship is VERY dirty and no rules are enforced on dishes, food and towels... As you can see from the pics, mounds of plates with half eaten food and glasses of cocktails are left all down the halls (pics taken on several decks). Half eaten food even tossed on the floor and left?! And not for short periods. This stuff is left for hours upon hours. A piece of glass is currently in my right foot from a broken wine glass left in the hallway by the drunken group that we had to complain about on multiple nights. Mounds of towels were tossed into the hallways and left for many hours. I had to assist a disabled guest with her wheelchair more than once when she was unable to get down the hallway due to towels on one side and 2 full trays of dishes and half eaten food on the other (surprise!) The dress code in the dining room isn't enforced, ever. Never. Again as you can see from the pics, half naked, soaking wet swimmers are allowed to walk into the dining room and eat, without shoes and all right in front of staff. We watched as pool water dripped off a ladies head and breasts into food and silverware baskets. Carnival staff standing FEET away and nothing is ever said or enforced (so why do you even advertise your "Dress code rule" .. Answer: to make customers believe it will be possible to have a decent meal without seeing thongs and butts or without eating pool water that has rolled off someone's head). The elevators were always dirty and had vomit in them two times that we used them (avoid pics if you have a weak stomach) Dishes left in the elevators just like the hallways. (See pics) The Elation is horribly maintained and "feels" like a badly managed rental apartment. Repairs are sub-par, walls are damaged all over the ship, paint doesn't match, an elevator in the atrium doesn't work so they block it off with a table and display boards. The same guests allowed to come into the dining room from the pool are also in the atriums and interior areas congregating and sitting on furniture, soaking it, and then the furniture stays wet for hours and you cannot sit down to enjoy shows or to have a drink. As you can see in the pics, trying to avoid the buffet and go to the dining room is useless. The tables are literally 6 inches apart. You are basically sitting on top of the people beside you, there is no one on one service, just one overworked waiter who works his way down the line taking EVERYONE'S order at one time. Our waiter actually took orders from 6 tables at once. 6! Due to that we waited on drinks for 23 mins (screenshot of times available) and what felt like longer for food (was too aggravated to time or worry about it by that point). The food is nothing special and basically the same every night. The food is very cold, not exaggerating, literally cold.. some was Luke warm but nothing has been "hot" The menu is slightly rearranged each night but it's generally the same. There are no displays or information readily available of what will be served for each meal (besides very vague details in Hub app Ex: Tonight is Caribbean night) The areas and boards where the "menu" or info would normally be were always blank or missing. The burger restaurant has a "menu" but you can't "order" ...they literally line you up and hand out exactly the same thing to every guest - a burger on a bun with cheese (you get to get your own toppings on a separate bar) so there's no choice for the doneness of your burger and to get one without cheese you have to literally yell and stop the "assembly line" process and then the service people just seem annoyed. The Mexican cantina is also an "assembly" line. The tacos were actually pretty good, the tortillas were fresh but the taco salad shells are left sitting out and are very stale, not crispy at all. The toppings for the cantina are on a separate bar but they were not well stocked and were empty most of the times. They were also "contaminated" with other items, cheese in the salsa, habanero in the cheese, sour cream all over the bar and mixed up. Wasn't clean or well cared for at all. Staff also let very very young children "serve" themselves from the buffet, 6 to 7 year old children "playing" in the food and unattended. Running through the dining room and around tables. The cleanliness and temperature of food is a great concern for us due to the recent news of Carnival Ships failing CDC inspections. Beware. Cabins were ok, showers are small and typical, doors and walls are very thin. No exaggerating. You will NOT get a peaceful night on this ship. The staff does not enforce any sort of rules or quiet time and you can hear everything, literally. The queen bed is 2 twins pushed together and they slide apart all night. You cannot hold onto your wife or husband without falling into the crack of the beds splitting. Have to push them together multiple times a night. When we told our room steward he said he would fix but never did. TV remote batteries were dead there's no table or night stand close to the bed for your phone or a drink to sit on. Public areas are not well maintained like the rest of the ship, pics provided of the public bathroom on deck 9 show examples. At least one stall was always out of order but no sign used to communicate, the toilet brush is simply laid on top of the toilet to signal that it doesn't work. Trash and urine left in the floors for at least 2 consecutive days that we are aware of, we did notice someone cleaning them today (last day). Very poor caulking and mismatched paint and repairs. On several occasions the "crew doors" were left swinging open and not closed, ceiling tiles were damaged and AC vents bent, damaged and held on the ceiling by tape. The ports of call on this cruise were Grand Turk and a strictly Carnival "owned" port called Amber Cove in the Dominican republic. Grand Turk was great, the excursions were crowded and overpriced as they always are so we opted to explore the island ourselves. The Amber Cove stop was super disappointing. Since it's owned by Carnival, it's basically all the same shops and merchandise as you find on the ship. Everything, literally everything is owned and controlled by Carnival. There's nothing "local" about the port. Nothing. It really takes away the point of traveling. The only way to see or do anything local is to find a way to get to the closest town of Puerta Plata. You have to force your way away from Carnivals influence and control. Locate a taxi which is a long walk away from the Port (Carnival wants to force you to stay there and spend your money there). The time in Port is very short and doesn't allow for you to really do much. (Except spend your money on Carnivals "stuff") speaking of money do not be fooled by the "cheers" package, you are limited to 15 drinks, still charged gratuity and limited to a time limit on how soon you can order one. To us it didn't matter but they fail to communicate that when they are collecting the crazy amount from you. (Check out Norwegians deals, truly unlimited drinks and even INCLUDED in Sky and Sun cruises...just FYI)*** I am not a Norwegian rep and I am not being paid in any way ... Seriously just a fan and happy customer**** Overall this cruise has the same issues that the other Carnival cruises have had that made us leave the brand. Carnival is basically the "Walmart" of cruising and they do great at making you feel exactly like "walmart". Get on board, spend your money, you do not matter, and get off so they can get the next group on. That's it. You spend over $1000 just to get on board then there's no peace and quiet, everything is dirty, no rules enforced, cold food, loud obnoxious people, vomit in elevators and bathrooms, dishes, food and trash tossed and left everywhere. Even when you call guest services for issues they aren't fixed and the ship is very old and in poor shape. ** I will also add that I have given Carnival proper notice of the extreme issues and have even sent this review and pics to their customer relations team and have yet to get a response.** Read Less

$200 million dollar renovation? Let's start with my room. We had a grand sweet, room 7295. We had dirty water from someone else's room leaking into our bathroom. It was so bad that mold was growing. And not sure exactly what we were walking in, shower water, toilet water? It took 6 days and 5 visits to be fixed, and we had to be out of our room for 5 hours while thru fixed it. We had to keep towels on the floor just to keep our feet dry! On day 7 or toilet stopped flushing, and they had to send a plumber to fix that, Day 8, the last day was problem free thou! Lol. The formal dining room is more like a diner than a formal dining room, allot of booths, which was REALLY CLASSY on formal night! I would say the food is almost as good as our local diner as well! Expect to wait a long time at all other places to eat, long lines, no organization. After you get your food, good luck finding a seat. The pool is very small and over crowded. The slides are nothing special either. People smoke wherever they want, and nobody enforces anything. Complained to security, but they did nothing! There were people even smoking in the kids water park by the slides. People were taking their kid's out of the water because they were doing nothing about it. We couldn't sit on our balcony due to people smoking marijuana, the smell was so bad my 12yr old daughter was getting sick. Guest service said all they can do is send out a letter with the smoking policy! So nothing was done about that either. I personally don't recommend this cruise, I had to get a claim number with carnival for compensation, we will see how that goes, hopefully better then the cruise! At least they added allot of rooms and made the common areas smaller! There are not allot of shows, except for shoes about shopping on board, and comedy shows everyday, which are not kid friendly, even if they say it is, it was very inappropriate. The casino is nice, but you have to walk straight through the smoking area to get anywhere, as it is the only deck you can walk from one end to the other. Not a good set up if you have kids. The spa was nice, my wife had 2 services, and we did a couples massage. The massage was relaxing, but I have had allot better around my house for less money. I would not take this cruise for a family vacation ever again. It was easy getting on the boat, getting off was another story, we had priority with the suite, but nobody knew where to send us, we're we're moved 3 times to different floors carrying 6 suitcases! And all I wanted to do is get off the boat! Kid's club was a joke for my 12 year old daughter as well. All they did was sit in the room and play a video game, or play on their phones. She wanted out in less then an hour! Getting off the boat in ports took a long time as well. Carnival had people stopping everyone on the ramp to get off so they could take pictures. All this did was hold everyone up! Take pictures on the side out of the way! It took us 1.5hrs to get off st the first port, and about an hour st the others. San Juan was nice for shopping, but don't be out after dark, we're didn't feel safe. St. Thomas was beautiful. Grand Turk was our favorite, we went snorkeling, and then relaxed on the beach, wish we had more time there. I would not recommend carnival, we mighty have tried the cruise line again if the company made right by us for all the problems we had, but they did not! Don't waste your breath complaining to the company, they don't care, and already have your money! Find another cruise line! I would add photos, but it won't let me on my phone for some reason. Booked because it was cheap. The cruise was booked for 2 infants, 2 adults. Only one crib was placed in the room, and fit in the room. I was told that I should have known the dimensions of the room, and it became my fault. I spent 2 days arguing with the supervisors. Then, they tried to put me in a separate room away from my family on my vacation so I had somewhere to sleep. I was told before I booked this cruise that swim diapers would be allowed on children in the pool. That conversation with a carnival employee was recorded. On the ship all of a sudden the babies weren't allowed in pool with swim diapers. Pool staff/supervisors told numerous parents that they had to remove the diapers from the kids to go into pool. Parents were removing the swim diapers and putting their kids in the pool. The second day a kid crapped in the pool, and the pool was drained. The supervisors were told about this issues and the response was..."I'm sorry". They would rather have a child in the pool who is obviously not potty trained, than have swim diapers on them. Numerous parents continued to take the diapers off of their babies and put them in the pool in front of the Carnival staff, and everyone in plain site. Not only is this disgusting, but unsanitary. One child squatted and peed in the pool in front of a Carnival supervisor, and all the guests. The management on this ship was horrible. All the elevators were broken, the buffet line every day wrapped around the dining hall, the food at the buffet was gross, and the smell of marijuana was a constant every day, all day. After speaking to Carnival Corporate their solution was a 15% credit. This is after I sent him the recording of the Carnival employee lying to me to get me to book the cruise. Carnival will lie and say what ever they need to say to get your money, book a cruise, and then apologize for the horrible service, but do nothing. Next time I'll spend a little more because you get what you pay for. Read Less

I choose Carnival because I wanted to experience a different cruise line. Oh my goodness, have you ever been on a cruise where there was hardly any food? Unbelievable! You have to pay for everything! French fries ($2), no free chicken wings ($5), restaurants were packed (the 3 free restuarants) and they were opened with limited time so with the long lines, good luck if you make it to the front before some crew member cuts you off and tells you that they are closed. Stood on a line for an hour to get a pre-made sandwich. Was so upset, decided to order in to room one night for dinner. Keep in mind that I am paying for my dinner. It took 2 and a half hours for the food to be delivered to the room. Speaking with the service desk was difficult. They answered the phone as if we're a bother. Nothing about this cruise was good, I am not one to bash anyone with bad reviews but please save your money and use another cruise line. For first time cruisers, you would be utterly disappointed if you go on this ship. I love cruises and I am glad I cruised on a different line before I went on carnival sunrise because if it was the other way around, I would never cruise again. I have a 2 yr old and I tried to take him into the pool. I was told that he could not go into the pool with swimming diapers and that he needed to be potty trained. No problem. So I tried to take him to the kiddie section for him to run around (no swimming), same thing. Horrible. Kiddie camp had 1 crew member with over 15 kids under 3 in one room with no toys, just sitting on the floor. Really? The entire ship had a lack of crew (long lines of people waiting) only to be serviced by a few crew members. How about the beverage package? Hmmm 5 oz. Of soda and the rest is ice. You will have to wait 5 mins to order another soda. Craving seafood? Better prepare yourself to pay your own tab because it ain't free my friend. I can go on and on but I think I have made my point. PS. When the ship came back to NY and docked, I saw oil floating in the water . . . Like a leakage. They are probably doing more harm than good seeing how they're cutting corners. I hope someone looks into this because we need to look out for our City. Read Less

Don’t know where to start. Entertainment director was very disorganized. No one could understand him. He did not set up good activities. It was a total chaos on the ship. People were boarding on and off whenever they want. They initially provided the time to each deck but people were getting off whenever they want to. Staff was extremely rude and impolite. Food was horrible, lines were extremely long. Room services lost our bottle of wines which we bought at the port and then they were ignorant about that. Very bad experience with carnival. No help for people who were using walkers. It was major mess, no organization . Staff was the worst , no manners to talk to people. I felt like I was in military ship and staff was talking down. We were supposed to be in king size bed ( they joined two twin size beds and there was significant gap between beds). Very disappointing . Read Less

Faster to fun DOES NOT work on this ship!(you will not be redunded) guest services very very rude. Server (dinner time) laughed and made fun of my husband because he refused alcoholic drinks( recovering alcoholic). Called carnival customer service when we got off the boat was told I would have a return call in 24-48 hours NEVER recieved this call. So much wrong happened on this cruise I just cant list it all. This is definitely the last time cruising with carnival. Down to the stupid animal towels that we never recieved on our beds each day. Could not access smoking area due to a family reunion was priority up on smoking deck. Security allowed drug use on decks. Just a horrible experience every day! Read Less

This cruise was by far the most terrible as far as customer service. Dining room room experience was awful, had to wait 15mins for water, bread was very hard and food was not at all appetizing. Attitudes were displayed as if the wait staff was irritated. It was very stuffy, a.c. Was not working to full capacity. Bar staff in the club was awful, attitudes, very slow and unenthusiastic with the exception of Sean (China) Santosa (Indonesia)@ the red rum bar they were AWESOME!!!! Give them a raise!!!! The public facilities were at minimal use, the dryers were broken and washers half washed the clothes. Pool areas were congested, maybe consider an adult only pool area. Food selections were always the same in the buffet area. Debarkation was very very slow and not very organized. Not very pleased with this cruise. This was my 6th cruise, hope things get better. We have been on many many cruises, several cruise lines. This has been far and away the worst cruise ship and cruise we have every taken. VERY SMALL ship little to nothing to do. very ROUGH unsteady ride. Has not been redone. Exterior is rusty and pitted. Balcony is slimy, rusty and unusable. Windows are filthy. Covered in a rusty slimy thick film. Hair, body, cloths stuck to everything out there. The smell of facies and methane gas permeates through stained cabin toilets into the cabins and through the halls. Food in main dining room is terrible portions are small child sized which really doesn’t matter cause you don’t want to eat it anyway. You have to be up on deck by 6:15 AM if you want a deck chair. Ports of call are still devastated. Sad to see - nothing to do -very very sad. The only thing worth doing is the Chef’s Table which was lovely. On last day we were awakened by crew banging on door screaming to get up time to get off the ship. Paperwork said we could stay in room until 8:30 but staff wanted us out at 6:45am. Thank god we were already up and dressed couldn’t wait to get out of the hell hole. Disembarkment complete chaos. Unorganized. Takes quadruple the amount of time as any other ship we have ever been on. Simply put don’t ever go on this ship disgusting! Read Less

We chose this cruise as a beautiful family getaway. I’ve traveled on several other ships and always had excellent service. Cleanliness smiles and great entertainment. This ship offered non of that. Not one good morning not one hello from staff. Everyone that works here looked miserable. I feel like I’m spending almost 9,000 for 5 people was a waste. I booked a room with a balcony because my husband is a smoker and is disabled just to find out that you can’t smoke on the deck The smoking area on deck 10 was terrible several people blasting music and dancing with their personal radio Floors by the pool were wet and no one was there to keep deck dry. Not to mention the sewage smell. Who wants to smell that while trying to relax on vacation. No pools for kids so the two pools they do have are all full of kids in diapers with life preservers kicking you because it’s so tight. The lido deck was a joke so unorganized. I tried to talk to the manager George but he walked away from me. Picture 40 people on a buffet line that doesn’t move. The one cook behind the line would carve one piece of meat and walk away to the hot line. No one should have to wait 25 min for food. The line for sandwiches was also a min of 30 min wait. They had one guy to prepare the sandwiches. This boat is grossly understaffed and it clearly shows with the staff and how miserable they are. We finally arrived at our first port so I called carnival and was told no one can help me. I wanted to get off the boat and fly home from Puerto Rico but wanted a partial refund of my trip from hell. No one helped me. The day I got home I received a call from carnival because I sent them an email. All I got was an I’m sorry and someone from guest services tried to contact me. Seriously people if guest services was trying to get a hold of me they would page you. If my Amex wouldn’t go thru I guarantee they would get. Hold of me. Stay away from this boat. Stay away. We cruised twice on this ship before millions were spent to upgrade this ship. They did a terrible job. They ruined it. It is hard to get around, they added little places on deck nine to get special foods and when walk towards the restaurant in the back you have to wait for people coming the other direction, they downsized the theater, they say if you do not use your lounges at the pool they will remove your towels but half the lounges had towels on them but nobody used them all day, there were a few arguments about this. Everyday there was a sewage smell on deck 9 around the pool and on deck 6 sewage came out of a room. The cruise director “ flying Scotsman” was awesome I give him 10-10’s and also dancers and singers the same. Room stewards were great and the waiters etc. were awesome. We will never that ship again. Kids were out of control, running etc. Read Less
