We sailed on the six-night itinerary to Amber Cove, Grand Turk, and Nassau on December 15 as an early Christmas present to ourselves (side note: at $680 for a suite, it was a steal). The Magic is a lovely ship—this was our second time cruising on this ship, and I wouldn't hesitate to book a third. I've noticed that other reviews include a lot people complaining that it's run down, but I didn't notice anything looking shabby. To the contrary, staff are constantly cleaning, polishing, painting—doing everything they can to keep the effects of a lifetime at sea at bay. It was our first time staying in a suite, and I have to say, it was absolutely, 100% worth the money. The bathroom is a REAL bathroom, complete with jetted tub and double sinks. There was also a dressing room area with a door between the cabin and the bathroom, affording a bit of extra privacy when getting ready. There was storage for days, and I swear, we even had extra glassware. Our steward, Julio, went above and beyond. We had some pretty nasty weather one night, causing the ship to rock and roll (enough that our bathroom door was slamming and glassware was clinking), and my daughter got really seasick. We made good use of the trash can that night. Anyway, I did my best to clean it up, but you know. Puking kid + small room = Big Mess. I called him to let him know, and he had the place spotless by the time we got back from breakfast. And he left her a bag of cookies with a sweet note. Being a suite guest also made embarkation a breeze—we were pretty much ushered through an empty terminal while the less lucky masses waited in long lines. Debarkation was much the same. In short: if you can swing a suite, do it. You won't regret it. Food ranged from just fine to really good. I am not a buffet person—in fact I hate them with every fiber of my being, especially in the morning, when I have not had coffee and am forced to deal with hordes of people—but they were fine. There did seem to be less of a selection than there used to be, but what there was was enjoyable. I highly recommend the omelet station in the morning. Also, head to the back of the buffet rather than hovering at the front—there's generally more seating back there. The Northern Lights dining room was uniformly delicious. I don't know what people are complaining about—there was filet mignon, prime rib, lobster, and plenty of other fancy dishes, but you could also get more "ordinary" food like fried chicken and salmon. We had Your Time dining, which worked really well—I hate being locked in to a specific time. When we wanted to eat, we reserved a table in the app, and it was generally ready by the time we got there. The servers treated my daughter like a queen—one even cut up her prime rib for her (she's almost 11). It was pretty hilarious. We also did the Chef's Table, which was an amazing experience. There were seven main courses (as well as a few appetizer courses), and each one was artfully presented and exquisitely prepared. The sous chef played host and told us a lot about how their operations work, in addition to describing the food. Side note: it's in the main galley, so there's some pretty good people watching. Activities: we didn't really use the pools. They're too dang crowded, but nice, if hanging out in a sea of people is your thing. The water park area is pretty fun, and the shows were decent. We're pretty low key in general, so we didn't do a whole lot of "participating," if you know what I mean. The Cloud 9 spa thallasotherapy area (I just murdered the spelling) was amazing. Quiet, relaxing, and totally zen-like. I only made it up there once (kids. sigh.), but thoroughly enjoyed the two hours I got to myself. The ports were nice. We just hung out at the pool at Amber Cove, and if you ignored all the drunk people, all was well. The waterslides are also pretty amazing. In Nassau we did the Dolphin Experience at Blue Lagoon, which I highly recommend. It was great fun, and is certified by the humane society (pretty rare for an attraction like this). The dolphins seemed truly happy and the trainers seemed to love their jobs. Plus, the island is ridiculously beautiful. And in Grand Turk, we sat on the beach. It was 80 degrees and sunny in December, the water was that beautiful turquoise color, and you could even snorkel. What else do you need? All in all, it was a highly enjoyable vacation and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Magic to anyone. Read Less

My wife and I sailed on the Elation for the December 14th-19th Amber Cove/Grand Turk cruise. We are from SC, and booked a night at the Radisson Resort at the Port for the evening before the cruise. Had planned to park at the port, but instead opted to park at the cruise parking lot at the hotel. The hotel staff was very competent, parking was a breeze, and the shuttle service was excellent. When it came time to embark, there was a situation on board that delayed boarding. We were not told what it was, and it delayed boarding by about an hour and a half. All the embarking passengers were held in the terminal until boarding. Boarding commenced at 1:45 PM. Our suite was ready when we boarded, so we dropped our carry on bag off, and picked up our room keys. Off to the Lido deck for lunch at Guy's Burgers. The burgers do not disappoint, but I feel they could be better. As far as the food was concerned, for the most part it was standard cruise fare. I have always compared most of it to Golden Corral food, and that pretty much describes most of what was served on the Lido Buffet. The dining room food was your usual fare, served competently by the staff, and usually doesn't vary much from ship to ship. I once again did not get to eat at the Blue Iguana Cantina, so I cannot comment other than it looked pretty busy every day, as it is a pretty popular venue. I did try the Bonsai Sushi bar, and I found the sushi rolls to be excellent. As other cruisers have said, the menu is a little limited on the sushi, so there may not be something for everyone. The pizza was just adequate, nothing to write home about, but was pretty popular also. I did not care for the deli order I had. Ordered a reuben, it had a weird taste. It wasn't really a reuben. My wife and I attended the Chef's Table dinner the fourth night, and I somewhat enjoyed it. My wife found very little she liked, but she can be pretty picky. The danish style roll served at the start was by far the best piece of bread I have ever put in my mouth! A lot of what was served was good, but just not to my taste. The sea bass was the best fish I have ever eaten, bar none! The last courses were a lamb roll with lamb pate, and smoked veal. The veal was smoked right at the table, and was an entertaining display. While the last courses were good, both the veal and the lamb had a "wild" taste, like what venison tastes like, and I really cant tolerate that taste. So...points deducted for the wild taste. While there were several things I liked during dinner, there were two things missing from the table......Salt and Pepper! Each item served would have been much better with salt and pepper, and there were several people looking for both items. For the items I liked, I do not feel it was a good value for the money, and I would skip future Chef's Table dinners unless I saw the menu in advance. For the port visits, we disembarked in both Amber Cove and Grand Turk. We took shore excursions each day, booked through the Carnival app. The excursion in Amber Cove was an all inclusive visit to the Lifestyle resort. All inclusive included open bar and buffet lunch at the resort restaurant. This excursion was well worth the money paid for it, and I would not hesitate to book again. The excursion in Grand Turk, however, was not as nice. It was called "Home Sweet Home". It amounted to use of a house and beach for the duration of the allotted time, and included lunch and an open bar with rum punch, a few mixed drinks, and beer. Lunch was the highlight, it was very good. Water toys were available, and a lifeguard was on duty while people were in the water. All in all, I do not feel it was worth the money, and I would not repeat this excursion. The ports themselves were what you would expect from the area. Amber Cove was nice, somewhat clean, and the resort was fantastic. Grand Turk was not nearly as nice in my opinion. Skinny dogs running around, not much infrastructure, slummy looking out in town. The beach area around the cruise port was nice, however. Our cabin was a suite on the 14th deck, G5. Very nice, extended balcony, and was very roomy for a married couple. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Linens were nice, towels kept fresh. Room was very clean, almost spotless! Shiela was our room steward, and she did an outstanding job the entire cruise. I tipped her for a job well done the last day. As for cruise activities, we attended a couple of shows, and they were nice. Your standard cruise shows. My wife and I just sort of vegged out this cruise, and did not attend many activities. We did hang around the Deck 7 atrium bar. Romy and Satria were the two main bartenders, and they both did an excellent job! I tipped them both on the last day as well. As for the ship, I found it to be incredibly clean and well kept. The ship's staff were very nice. The room steward Shiela know our name the first day. We booked a suite this cruise, and I must say I am sold on the suite experience. Priority boarding/disembarkation, free water in the room, robes, large TV, complimentary laundry service..the list goes on and on. Will never sail again except in a suite! As many people have said, the ship did have a "rock' to it. During the cruise all over the Caribbean there were high winds. I honestly found the rocking to be enjoyable. We did, however hit a patch of bad seas the last night, and at about 2:30 AM the last night it woke us up with the violent pitching up and down. Apparent wind at the time was 70 mph, and all the weatherdecks were secured. It only lasted a couple of hours though, and we were able to go back to sleep. Disembarkation was smooth, and was part of the suite experience. We were offered early disembarking, and took it. Had to be in the theater at 7:00 AM. The ship docked at 7:00 AM, we were off by 7:30, and were back to our car by 8:15. Very smooth indeed! Overall I would not hesitate to sail on the Elation in the future! One last thing, and others have brought it up. Carnival is starting to nickel and dime cruisers for every little thing nowadays. Most notably we had to pay 5 bucks for each device to be able to use the Carnival app to text. Seems like I remember this service being free on our last cruise. So, be prepared to pay out of pocket for a few things not originally budgeted for. Read Less

Our waiter Pray in the MDR was so nice, he made sure that I had a meal that fit my needs as I am a vegan. He took care of everyone at our table very well and always said hello to us even around the ship if we saw him in another dining area. Lots of activities to do all the time. I would take this cruise again for sure. The port of call were great and loved every port stop. We travelled to Amber Cove, DR, St. Thomas, San Juan, and Grand Turk. The comedians on the ship were all funny and had you laughing so hard. I loved the Lip Sync Battle and the cruise director NoNo was funny and always available and friendly. Read Less

We were treated to a shore excursions of our choice in Turks an Caicos. Our parking was paid for because we drove there. There was a plaque on our cabin door saying we were Elite guests. We are already platinum so the platinum upgrade for the cruise really didn't affect us. The fifth day there was an Elite cocktail party where the hors d huerves were better than an upscale wedding with an open bar. It was a wonderful experience that you should not miss it you get invited.try it you will love it. The cabin was always kept clean and wasn't dated.could use some more drawer space. Food in the Lido buffet was just OK but the Italiain restaurant food was good in Cucina del Capitano. Read Less

Me and my wife sailed with Carnival on board the Breeze In November 2019 for our honeymoon. We had a room on the first floor with an ocean view. The cruise was 7 days and we enjoyed every second of it. The staff was not only amazing but by the second day they had already remembered both of our names and what we liked to order. The food was outstanding and the dining room staff was always so friendly and helpful. Every drink we ordered regardless of our location was made perfectly. The shows were always Entertaining and fun for everyone. I’ve been on 3 cruises, all with carnival and I’ve never experienced or overheard any have one negative thing to say about any of them. The staff treats everyone with the upmost respect even when some passengers don’t deserve it. Our waiter, Roberto, and his dining room staff always made us feel welcomed and at home. You can’t go wrong cruising with carnival, the have so much stuff you can do so you’re never bored, and if you want to just relax all cruise and soak up some sun, then they have plenty of areas for that too. People that complain are just looking for free stuff, staying on deck two means that there is a whole deck of cabins below you, not the engine room. And lunch lines will be longer when you go at the same time as everybody else. You have multiple locations that are all open for multiple hours. Read Less

We drove down from the Atlanta area on Saturday, November 23 and checked into the Country Inn and Suites. We reserved the Cruise Park and Stay package, which I highly recommend if you drive in. We wanted a little down time before we sailed away on Monday for our Thanksgiving cruise. We played Putt-Putt, shopped, went to the beach, etc. Great hotel, great staff. I recommend going to Preacher Bar if you get the chance. It's a brief walk from the hotel. We reserved the Cruise Park and Stay package, which I highly recommend if you drive in. We chose this particular cruise for the ports, the convenience of Port Canaveral, and, since we were bringing our adult children and grandchild - the price couldn't be beat! Plus, I didn't have to cook on Thanksgiving :) We are Platinum members with Carnival, having sailed with them on over 20 cruises, but this was our first sailing on a Fantasy Class ship. I will say, though it was smaller than most of the ships we've been on, we never felt cramped or too crowded, nor did we feel the movement/rocking that others have mentioned. We had perfect weather and perfect seas for the entire cruise. Port Canaveral has embarkation down to a science. We've never boarded a ship in 15 minutes - EVER! After reading all of the negative reviews I was a bit concerned, but when we boarded, I knew we were going to be just fine. The ship is a little dated and a little rusty; but was clean. We booked inside cabins, which were just fine - plenty of room and well maintained by our cabin stewards. We enjoyed the Sea Day Brunch, the Deli, and of course the ice cream/frozen yogurt. Guy's Burger Joint was great, as always. We always seemed to miss The Blue Iguana since it was only open for limited hours. Jen, the Cruise Director, was amazing. She has the perfect personality for the job! We saw two great comedians in the Punchliner Comedy Club, and only went to one musical production - DIVAS. It was O.K. Our ports were Amber Cove, D.R. and Grand Turk. We didn't book and excursion in Amber Cove, choosing to instead hang out at the cruise port at the pool. We did reserve a poolside cabana at Margaritaville in Grand Turk, which was a great experience. I highly recommend it - we had great service, air conditioning, privacy. Just perfect. We won't think twice about booking another sailing on a Fantasy Class ship in the future. All in all, don't let the negative reviews sway you from booking on the Elation, and remember, a vacation is what you make of it. Go out and enjoy yourself - it's better than being in the office for a week. Read Less

No matter where we were or what we did on our recent Carnival Breeze cruise, the employees were superb! From our room stewards, Gusti and John Paul, (room 2221) to our waiters, I Putu, Oscar and Carson (Table 533), to the Lido staff, Zara, and the Ocean Plaza help, Ruth, the employees were amazing, friendly, helpful and happy! The "Craft with Michael's" guys, Brad and Ryan were incredibly entertaining and fun. The four comedians, Dale Jones, Jodi White, Allen Mazen and Tyler (the bow tie guy) had us laughing until we were crying, both the family and adult shows! Also, the Sea Sharps are the best band that I've ever seen on my 75+ Carnival cruise days. They performed in the Ocean Plaza which was great because we could dance, but there was standing room only; they need a bigger venue! Schwartz is a fun cruise director; does he have time to sleep?! And, thank you for the daily puzzle, which I did every day; and this cruise, I borrowed a book from the library, read it and returned it, so I didn't even have to haul a book or Kindle around while traveling to and from the ship. Finally, the embark and disembark procedures were the fastest I've ever experienced. Love you Carnival! Read Less

Everything was great and will go on carnaval again, The rope course was great, we had so much fun doing with our niece. Guys burgers and fries station was awesome too. We had a balony room and steward was great and always there if we needed him. Also had room service for coffee every morning and was always fresh. We had fun at all the ports and love Senior Frogs. This was our family cruise. Nine of us sailed aboard the Elation and had a wonderful time. We had sailed on this ship before and were not disappointed. We had 3 first time cruisers with us, and now they are hooked. This ship made a great impression on them. Crew and staff were extremely helpful and quick to respond on all matters is or concerns. Our cruise director did a fantastic job and was everywhere making fun for all. Shows were good and we enjoyed them all. Had seen couple of them on another cruise, but these guys and girls really put Their heart in it! Great singing and dancing. Tried to enter corn hole competition but filled up too quickly. Bummer! We did have 2 of our family make it on stage for Hasbro game, although they did not win they enjoyed playing. Played shuffleboard and enjoyed pools and slides. Lots of room for working on tans, and played putt-putt. Was wanting to play bocci, but no pieces? Went to art show, however I did not stay. Have bought several pieces prior, but seemed to be same art on each ship. Had a 7 year old that had a blast! Loved kids camp and eating ice cream. Made lots of new friends. Food was good as usual, dinning room staff was superb. Always attentive to each of us and fun to be with. Made us feel at home and worked very hard. We did early dinning, and enjoyed some new items on menu, I think 1 was called mungo and the other was la Madera. Both were very tasty, recommend! Grand Turk was beautiful, took your of island through local taxi service. Driver was not very talkful, perhaps because we said we had been there before. Saw lighthouse on far end of island, and previous area where navy used to be. When you get off ship here, swimming area is to the left. A little rocky but still nice and calm. Ship is right there. Carnival has chairs and umbrellas, but got to get there early. Go to your right however and get a great massage from a mother and son team that are great and reasonably priced...not $150 like on board ship! Amber cove was nice as well, took your here from locals too. This guy was great! Went to amber museum, saw government houses, beautiful church and street full of umbrellas. The beach was nice, but the waves of were awful. Need to be a good swimmer here. Very strong under current as well. Word of warning, don't be taken in by ladies offering free foot massage. They do 1 minute free and continue on without asking, then want to charge you. Overall this was a great cruiseship and cruise. Look forward to our next one. This was number 26! Never enough cruise!! Had porthole room, which was kept spotless. Had anawesome issue with smoke smell, I which was addressed quickly and room sterilized. Great team on this ship! Read Less

This cruise to the Dominican and Grand Turk was a retirement gift from my co-workers. It was our first cruise and it was great. I will remember it always. Deon, who was our cruise director and a lot of the entertainment on the ship, made this cruise the best time ever. He and all of the staff on the ship including Ivanna from Ukraine who was in the spa, Christina from Romania in guest services, Luisito from the Philippines our favorite waiter, Ramona our cabin steward and Rawanda from South Africa in the jewelry store treated us all like family. They were truly amazing people who got to know us and always welcomed conversation with us. They love their jobs and it shows in how they take care of everyone on the ship. Because of them we will return to Carnival for future cruises. As Deon said....we all came together as one big family on the ship, joined hands and shared our lives together as one big family for 5 days. Deon entertained us in the Fantasia lounge with Hasbro Games. He danced and sang for trivia and different events around the ship especially on the Lido deck. He was fantastic and got everyone involved. He was also very informative each day with what was going on and when so you could plan everything and not miss any major events. The food on the cruise was excellent especially the Guy’s burger joint and the pizza/deli. The buffets were also very good but the desserts were less than desirable. Thank goodness for the swirl cones they were always good. The bars were all phenomenal and loved kareoke! The excursions were okay at the Dominican and Grand Turk. We were not impressed with the tour of Grand Turk. They called a side street with shells and a few benches a nature preserve. The tour guide said “okay ladies and gents” a thousand times as he showed us just old dilapidated houses. The Dominican tour was better. We did not like the shopping experience at each port because we wanted to purchase more cultural items made by the locals and that was not an option. You could only buy junk from China in higher end shops that was the same in every store or high end jewelry that no one could afford. The beach areas were very small unless you bought excursions. The water and beaches were clean and beautiful. All in all being on the ship was the best part of our trip. Next time we will plan the more adventurous excursions. Read Less

Since our first cruise on the Elation, they have updated it to include the water park on top. The updates were very nice and we enjoyed Guys Burger as well as the other eating places that were added. On our first trip on the Elation as well as this one we did experience a lot of roughness as far as the sailing was concerned. Not sure if it was the ship or the water since the only times we've experience so much movement was on the Elation both times. Overall we enjoyed our cruise and experience. Our wait staff in the Dining Room was Godfrey, Ching and Bibiana. Ching was our main server and she (as well as the others) were wonderful. She remember our name after the first night and what we wanted to drink. As far as entertainment goes, I wish they would introduce something different. If you've been on several cruises you've seen the shows and it would be nice to experience something different. But, having said that our overall experience was great! Read Less

We had never been on a cruise before, but we're curious enough to give it a shot. So glad we did. We sailed out of Baltimore for the convenience factor. We live about 30 minutes north of Allentown, PA, so the drive wasn't bad at all. Cruise terminal was very easy to get to. Traffic flowed smoothly and all staff were VERY helpful. We breezed right through the security line, no waiting. We sat a bit until they were ready to let everyone board, but we were still in the serenity area on a clamshell with adult beverages in hand by 12:15. Our cabin was gorgeous. I'll admit, I was nervous. I read a lot of negative reviews about the conditions of cabins. Absolutely no complaints. There was a bit of rust on the balcony, but seeing as how it's a boat with a whole lot of exposure to salt water and weather, the rust was minimal. The staff were. All. Amazing. Japhett was our steward and was fantastic. It seemed as though he knew what we wanted before we did. Very attentive and really nice. We spent the bulk of our time on the Lido deck by the pool. Dr E was our cruise director and he was hilarious. With his "good morning" and "good evening" songs and everything in between, he kept us laughing all week long. Our favorite was the guess that 70s/80s song activity in the main atrium. He outdid himself. Huge shout out to all of the bartenders, but our favorites were Nebo and H at the Blue Iguana Tequila Bar. These guys are hilarious and super friendly. As for the negative reviews. I read a ton of these after I booked this cruise. Here's my 2 cents, and I've read other reviews saying the same thing: know what things are most important to you when you book your cruise. Don't book a Carnival cruise if all you're looking for is quiet and relaxation. We were incredibly relaxed when we came home, but there's a lot going on on this ship. If you're expecting super high end, maybe check out a different cruise line. This boat was exactly as it was advertised: family friendly and party-like atmosphere. In general, the negative reviews were extremely nit-picky. It's a vacation. You're on a cruise with 2,400 of your newest best friends. There's absolutely nothing worth getting all fired up about. Also, be nice to the staff. They live there. We're guests in their home. If you wouldn't do it in your own, don't do it there. (Yes, I'm talking to you, lady who dumped an entire plate of food in the buffet line and just walked away without so much as an apology to the crew member on the floor trying to pick everything up so no one would step on it. Also talking to the gentleman with the stellar personality who screamed at the attendant at the pizza station...I still haven't figured out what was so upsetting.) Sidenote: also know what you're looking for as far as entertainment. I read a ton of reviews about folks being wildly offended by the late night comedy shows. Here's the thing. On the daily newsletter, it says right on it that the late night comedy shows are rated R and only suitable for 18+. Further, before the show even started an announcement is made reminding everyone of such, and also suggests that if you're easily offended or even a little sensitive, you find your way out. The comedians were absolutely hysterical and don't deserve to be slammed for being totally offensive by folks who were well warned as to what they were getting into. Our cruise on the Carnival Pride has set off a total cruise addiction. We came home Sunday and booked our next cruise on Wednesday. Carnival is fantastic! Read Less

Room 6338 on the Carnival Magic September 22 - September 28, 2019 Exotic Eastern Caribbean Cruise 6 Day. Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, and Amber Cove Dominican Republic Husband and Wife Cruise First off let me just say, the Carnival cruise lines gets too many negative reviews. Our trip started out with arriving at Ft. Lauderdale at 10:30 we boarded the ship after check in immediately around 11:30. The buffet elevators were programed to take you directly up to the Buffet which is on deck 10. We ate at Guys Burger and went to the bar to order a drink. We tried to get to our room which was 6338 and our luggage was outside of our room and badge keys were in the mail box. I AM NOT KIDDING YOU. We were able to unpack and situated. This trip made us Platinum Cruisers and when we opened the door there were two lanyards on the bed and 2 pins with a letter of thanks. Very classy Carnival! I have read where people say some nasty things about Carnival doing this because it's cheap. Shame on you, it cost a lot of money for things like this and a company to show their appreciation. I am not a princess and I appreciate things like this. Elevators were crowded but you’re on vacation with a lot of other people who want to have fun. This is where you manners should prevail. The elevators time was about 10 minutes to get into one. Because we stayed on the 6th floor we would run down the steps to the casino to the 5th floor. We are also Premier Member's (Casino Spenders) and received little gifts every day. LOVED IT. First thing I did was go out on the balcony. I tried before to find a review about the room and could not find one so I will take the time to explain it as best that I can. The balcony is on the 6th floor looking down at the outside shower and the Jacuzzi was to the right of it. I really didn't think too much about it because I planned on being in the casino most of the time. However, there was only one incident where about 8 teen agers were in the Jacuzzi getting on one another shoulders goofing around and splashing water all over the place. This went on about one hour with swearing between each other and making out. I eventually called 911 and reported it. The security guard was up and walked the floor and told them there was a complaint made by the passengers, they told the guard we were all laughing at them and going along with it. The Security Guard remained firm and told them to stop it. After the guard left they started to yell at us all for ratting them out. The boat was just leaving port from Half Moon Cay and they wanted to know why we were all out on the decks (Where are these parents?) Finally they left, Thank God. I do not blame Carnival because the parents should be more responsible with their kids especially teenagers. They still can still get into trouble regardless of where it is. With this being said, I do think that nobody under 18 years of age should be in the Jacuzzi’s without adult supervision. The buffet was really good which surprised me. We do not attend the sit down dining because it takes too long for us. Out of all of the other ships, Freedom, Valor, Liberty, Glory and Conquest this was a better buffet. Very tasty. The deserts were not that sweet which made you not want to overdo it. That was a good thing because it’s amazing to see how people just gorge themselves on the food. The casino was outstanding. I love the bigger ship because it gives you a lot more machines to play on. Even when the nights were really crowded you can find a machine to play. And yea the smokers are really bad. I had one lady that always seemed to be sitting next to me just smoking and blowing it my face without playing the slots. No problem I would just move to another machine. The machines let you play with wins and on the last day my husband won almost $1,200.00 which was very cool.  There were vapors on the boat but the casino employees would catch them and remind them there is not vaping on the boat. Our room Steward was so wonderful and attentive we always had ice in the room and the room was clean and not smelly like some other people have complained about. I did not smell anything on the ship other than good food and cigarette smoke. Also, the crew were amazing they were always working so very hard on keeping the ship clean. I know that this is a long review but Carnival does not get enough good reviews!!! I cannot wait to book another trip on the Dream, Horizon and eventually the new. Dismemberment was the best I have ever had. This guy should be a trainer in keeping things organized and staying right there to direct people to keep doing the same things that other people were doing. Usually there is no leadership and people crowd the hall way and there is congestion everywhere. NOT THIS TIME. Thank you Carnival Cruise lines you are the best and hope to see you soon!!! Read Less

This was our very first cruise. Didn’t no exactly what to expect and was nervous at first. Everything turned out beyond what I could have asked for. The ship is huge with 2 pools (wished they were a little bigger) but both very nice. The service was great. The dinning room was definitely my families favorite with our 3 favorite servers that we continued to request the entire cruise (Gede Arnawa, Ketut wiranan, and Nant) Arnawa was our favorite!! Very outgoing and went beyond what we could have asked for. Always making us laugh and all around a fun guy!! Danced with him at dinner a few times too haha. He was a highlight on our cruise. Some of our favorite places to eat lunch were guys burgers (so yummy) and pig and anchor (boyfriend loved this and I did too) Our favorite bartender was Keke she was amazing! She knew how the make the best bloody Mary’s and very friendly! The cheers drink package was definitely worth every penny. Drinks are about 10$ so we took full advantage of the drink package!! The entertainment was great! The comedy quest show was hilarious! One of our favorites. Simon was our cruise director and he went above and beyond with entertaining everyone. He had a white night party, and 80s party both which were very enjoyable. The last day he did a balloon drop! Was soo cool! The ports that we visited where half moon cay (water crystal clear, my favorite) Turks and cacios, and amber cove. 3 absolutely beautiful ports. In half moon was a perfect beach day and visiting the pirate ship bar! Turks and Caicos we rented a golf cart and rode around the island. Got to visit margaritavillie jacks shack, and more! Amber cove we did zip lining shore excursion. Loved the excursion. Only downfall they didn’t tell you everything you needed to have to be prepared for excursion (shoes, very long shorts, etc) would I go on a cruise again?! Omg yes in a heartbeat!!! Read Less

I read all the review that I could find about the Carnival Magic, some of them worst than others. That being said, I went on this vacation with an open mind and low bar. Let me tell you that was the best thing I could have done and I was not disappointed. My friends and I arrived in Ft. Lauderdale the day before we embarked and stayed at a Hampton Inn which had free airport shuttle and $10 per person transport to the cruise terminal. The hotel was so/so and I would not stay there again. We ended up taking an Uber, which from the hotel to the cruise terminal was less than $20 for an UberXL. From the time of being dropped off by our Uber to getting on the ship, only took 12 minutes. Way to go Port Everglades! Our cabin was amazing. We booked a cove balcony as I've been in one before and I would certainly do it again. People mentioned in some reviews about a sewage smell and we only experienced it in the hallway between rooms 2298-2280 for less than 24 hours, I believe on the third day. It was strange because once you got to our room which was 3 doors down, the hallway smelled fine. Nothing was ever noticeable in our room. Ilham, our room steward, meet us on the first day and asked when we wanted turn down service. Ilham and his assistant were on top of their game. Every time I would walk by them in the hall they would great me and ask me how my day is going. We brought soda onboard and left the extras for them because they were that wonderful. The food on the ship was amazing and I would highly suggest going to the dining room every night to eat. I went with a couple of friends and each night they ordered two entrees because they couldn't decide what to eat. Our waiter, Marvin, and bus boy, Luis, where down to earth and I could not have asked for better wait staff. Guy's Burger are wonderful and I could have had those for every meal. The buffet was so-so, typical buffet food and at one point I went to the Mongolian place and it took 30 minutes of waiting in line to get my food. Pizzeria was never a disappointment and I suggest #4 which is the Formaggio. Simon London, our cruise director, was EVERYWHERE. He is hilarious and all the shows he hosted had a huge crowd. I highly, highly recommend the Love and Marriage show. We sat toward the front and we were crying because we were laughing so hard. Simon was certainly kept on his toes with some of those answers. I also recommend going to the decade trivia in the atrium. It's not really trivia as much as it's a huge sing-a-long and the CD bringing out guests from the audience to participate. In some of the reviews, I was reading the was no Quest scavenger hunt, but on our ship there was. Unfortunately, we were not able to attend because it was extremely late at night (I believe 2330) and we had to be up early the next day to be one of the first off the ship for our excursion. Our piano bar player, Scott, was another fantastic entertainer. The first night we stumbled upon the piano bar by accident and every night thereafter, we spent there because it was that much fun. The Fun Squad on our ship worked really well together and with our Cruise Director. For some of the events they were scripted, but you could tell they were going off script because they would be laughing on stage. Our favorite port was Half Moon Cay. People say there is not good snorkeling there, but that a bunch of crap. They obviously did not try hard enough. If you walk all the way to the end of the beach (its a pretty far walk), there is fantastic coral with huge fish. I would only recommend this if you're a strong swimmer though, the current can be a little strong. The downside of this port is it's a tender port. I had to wait in line for about 35-45 minutes to get a number for the tender. Perks of waiting though, is you are one of the first people off the ship and it feels like you have the beach to yourself, especially if you keep walking away from the crowds. Hopefully Carnival will start building a pier for Half Moon Cay. I did not like Grand Turk at all. So much so, I would not go on another cruise to that port. We had an excursion there, but it was cancelled because not enough people signed up for it. We ended up making our way down to Jack's Shack. That place was nice, but the drinks were overpriced. If you go here, may sure you bring your water shoes with you because the beaches are rocky and full of sea weed. Amber Cove was beautiful. My friends kept singing the theme song to Jurassic Park. We booked a tour through Iguana Mama for the Damajagua Falls. I would HIGHLY recommend the company for an excursion. We were only able to do 7 of the 27 falls because of drought in the area, but they gave us a reimbursement and told us up front about the situation. We did not spend much time in port itself, but there are many shops. If you've made it this far, thank you. Overall, I would recommend this ship and would sail her again. If you go in not expecting a whole lot, you will have a wonderful time. There are many activities on board and you need to try each of them out. If you don't like it, simply leave, there are other activities. The Carnival Magic will not let you down. Read Less

Chose this cruise due to length (8 nights) and ports visited (St Thomas, St Maarten and San Juan) plus it left out of Charleston SC which was convenient for our family cruise. I would recommend the Sunshine. Staff was nice and entertainment staff was great. Loved the Ocean Plaza area. Trivia, great music (2 to 12). Enjoyed the Java Café each day. The Atrium parties were fun and the cruise director, Adam, added to the entire experience. Love the Thirsty Frog and Carnivals Red Beer. Our cabin was fine (interior on 6). Towels animals every day made me smile. Ports were awesome. Excursions were fun. Met great people. Also, enjoyed Alchemy Bar and the assortment of drinks. Bartenders did a great job. LOVED the Build a Bear and made a Carnival Bear (and I'm an adult) lol Shows were good. Comedians were funny. Negatives were: the food was below par. Buffet food was cold most of the time. (Salad bar was good). Not enough healthy choices. Lack of vegetables on buffet. Limited choices. Need more fish & chicken that was edible. Deli was good and stayed busy. Pizza was not very good. NCL has much better food. Although Bar Service was overall GOOD. The bartenders don't work a bar very well. They don't honor 1st come 1st serve AND they take orders around the entire bar; make many drinks at once leaving people long waits and newcomers to bar even longer waits. Bad system overall. Other negative for this cruise was piano bar which we usually love. Zack Daniels not a very good singer but can play piano and entertain. But found him overbearing in some aspects. Also, Aretha, bingo, was rude and crude. Rest of staff was great. One other negative was the water pressure. It's an older ship but fine except for the water pressure in shower/bathroom sink. Also, Carnival seems to have problems with sewage smells around their ships that other cruise lines don't have. Public toilets over flowing (ie: Casino bathroom). Don't see this on NCL, RCI or Celebrity. We've been on 4 cruise out of Charleston (Ecstasy, Fantasy and Sunshine). We've enjoyed all 4 and are pleasantly surprised by our experiences. Love this port. This was our first Platinum cruise and we enjoyed the party and guest service priority. Thanks Read Less

Chose this cruise because it was departing from Charleston, SC and going to San Juan. The food selections and quality was amazing. The entertainment especially Zack Daniels in the piano bar was great fun every night but Thursday. Thursday is his drinking night and he was not performing. The shows in the Liquid Lounge where really good. The Acoustic Jams with the young couple Unity entertained us almost every night. They sang a variety of songs and he whistles well while she plays the drum. Ketut and Joyce took good care of our rooms and the Omelet Station on the Lido deck in the Havana Bar was my favorite breakfast most mornings. I would recommend this ship to the 50 and older travelers. They made up 90% of the cruisers onboard. If you require a wheelchair to get on and off the ship this port and this ship does it better than any of the more than 14 ships of 6 different cruise lines I have traveled on. I can't wait for our next cruise on this ship in January 2020. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we had a blast. Right from the port of entry the carnival people where polite and very respectful. Once onboard the ship was very amazing. The night dining meals was fantastic. Our waiter bent over backwards to meet our needs. Aba was one of them and the other was Edward. Once we got settled in our room was very clean and the air conditioner worked great. The balcony was nice at night time. Our room Stewart was niaom "not sure of spelling" Niaom was very polite and helpful. Anything ask he would go out of his way to get it done. Over all trip was fantastic and we seen land that my family thought they would never see. Half moon cay was a beautiful island to spend the day. Our next cruise will be to Bermudas and will be with the pride of possible. Can't forget the ship cruise director Dr E he put together and awesome week of entertainment. Read Less

I never write reviews but felt inclined to after seeing so many negative reviews. This is my 4th cruise. I just came back from the 8 day Eastern Caribbean cruise - a cruise which I was a little concerned about because of so many poor reviews. I'm glad I don't always believe what I read. First, the ship is beautiful. Yes it's a smaller ship but at no time did I feel crowded. Never had a problem getting food - Pig n Anchor, grill, Mexican, raw bar etc.- never more than a few minute wait. Your Time Dining for dinner is great - download the app and request a table. The wait was never more than 10 minutes. Menu changed every night. We were very happy with all our choices. Yes the buffet could get busy but again it was never more than 10 minutes in line. The drink area does bottleneck and it was the only area that annoyed me but it was no big deal. Entertainment was varied and very good. The Acoustic Trio in the Red Frog Pub was our favorite. Mike the cruise director was hysterical and really got people involved but wasn't pushy. All ports of call were beautif - Amber Cove was our favorite. We didn't do any excursions because we just wanted sun sand and water. All in all you get a lot for your money. Embarkation was a breeze - disembarking is still a chore. Read Less

Introduction: This cruise was booked 16 months prior to sailing. While it is not our first cruise, it is the first with my daughter and her husband who had no previous cruise experience. I sprang the invitation to my daughter just 6 months before the cruise. To say they were excited is an understatement. We traveled to NYC by train the day before sailing, my wife and I from Boston and my daughter and son-n-law from Philadelphia. Embarkation: I have become quite disappointed with the embarkation and debarkation process on Carnival in Manhattan and this cruise was not an exception. Up until 2016 Priority Boarding for Platinum, Diamond and Suite guests we always had a VIP lounge and a separate boarding area. The process was fast, efficient and comfortable. No longer is this the case. The Platinum, Diamond and Suite guests no longer have a lounge, and are grouped together with Faster to the Fun and persons with disabilities. The Ship: When I was looking for a cruise for September it was exciting to see a different ship was coming to New York. For reasons some who have read my previous reviews are aware my wife and I limit our cruises to those out of New York and Boston. We had not sailed on the Triumph before its transformation to the Sunrise this year. I had actually booked the cruise before the change was even publicized. I prefer the ships under 110,000 so this met my entire criterion. The ship was clean which given it just went through a $200 million refurbishment should not come as a surprise. While it never, even breakfast at the Lido, seemed crowded it always felt compressed like they want to be all things to all people. Each venue seemed shrunk to fit. The two exceptions were Pixels and Serenity. Way too much space taken up with this money grabbing venue of which my wife took full advantage. We unfortunately were unable to find any seating at Serenity on the three times we attempted. Simply stated we are not early risers so we just went back to our wonderful balcony which I discuss next under Stateroom. I was a bit disappointed with the layout of the ship. Getting to the Limelight Lounge on Deck 4 with the Punch Liner Comedy is a bit complicated. You have to traverse the Radiance Dining Room or walk partially through the Casino on Deck 5 then take the elevator or stairs down to Deck 4. Rarely will you be able to enter through the back side next to the Sunshine Dining Room. Stateroom: I originally booked Grand Suites but about a month before the cruise when we were “visiting” the ship on-line my wife saw the Captain’s Suite. As the saying goes “Happy Wife, Happy Life” so I checked and miraculously there was one of the two Captain’s Suites available. My daughter and her husband were pleased with the Grand Suite but I can not give any details given I did not ever see the suite. As for the Captain’s Suite, it is a bit more than two people need, separate bathrooms…? really now! Lots of storage space, large televisions in the sitting room and bedroom, lots of electric outlets and USB outlets, huge balcony with a table and four chairs and two lounge chairs and a spectacular view out the front of the ship. The room is directly above the ship’s bridge so the view is as good as the Captain’s. My wife did find the bathtub while jetted was smaller than previous suites. Food: The food was fine in all the venues we visited with the exception of the lobster in the MDR and the Seafood Shack. My wife, who is a Maine lobster fanatic found them to be, in her words “slimy”. She did find the shrimp and chowder to be very good and I have the tab to prove it. Also we are not Sushi lovers, did not find time for the tacos at the Blue Iguana Cantina or Guy’s Pig and Anchor Smokehouse. I would be remiss to not mention Guy’s Burger Joint. My two previous experiences of biting into a piece of charcoal and then a leather belt will never be forgotten. Being the forgiving type and always giving a second chance, in this case third chance, I went for it. And glad I did. THIS was what I had wanted all along. Even though it was well done, it was still juicy and delicious. I really enjoyed this burger immensely. We did dine at Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and Cucina del Capitano and both are well worth the additional fee. More of an observation rather than a criticism or complaint we have always left the dining room after eating satisfied. This time we felt stuffed. My daughter, who is not afraid of food, was unable to empty her plate on several occasions. It seems Carnival, possibly just this chef, has increased the portion sizes. Previously, we would order another entrée, go to another venue and get something more to eat, get a soft serve ice cream or simply wait till the late night dining at the Lido. None of that occurred on this cruise. Staff: The staff throughout the ship was wonderful. The bar/ lounge staff, the dining staff, room steward guest services, etc. If they ever knew our name, they would always greet us using our names. I’m not sure how they do it, sometimes I do not remember my own. Entertainment: Al Ernst is one of the funniest if not THE funniest guys I have seen on a cruise ship. Yeah, he doesn’t swear up a storm or look for ways to insult the audience or have a bunch of filthy stories to tell but he is one heck of a great comedian. Thank you, Al for two wonderful evenings of humor. The shows in the Liquid Lounge were enjoyable with very talented performers. We did find the Electric Violins in the Sunrise Lobby played a louder than we prefer thus did our drinking and socializing elsewhere. Ports/Excursions: We only left the ship at Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic. We missed this Carnival private port on the Vista in 2016 due to strong winds. We rented an Ocean View Cabana which was very enjoyable. My daughter and son-in-law rode the zip line once and decided as much fun as it was, the trek back to the top really wasn’t worth it. The pool looked very inviting and there were plenty of chairs but I really enjoyed sitting and relaxing in the Cabana with an occasional hop into the water. Getting up the ladder out of the water is quite an ordeal. I suggest a couple more rungs on the ladder deeper in the water. Pretty tough on us older folk (I’m 72) and those who may be a bit on the hefty side. On the other port days we took advantage of the pool as the ship was vacated of passengers. Ah, maybe this is when we should have visited Serenity! No pool though. Debarkation: We were told to be in the Liquid Lounge at 8:15 A.M. to take advantage of Priority Debarkation. Not sure why we had to be there when we weren't allowed off until 9:30 A.M. No coffee, juice and pastry were available as has been the case on previous cruises. Had I known, we would have had a relaxing breakfast in the MDR and been the last people off the ship at 10:30. Conclusion: This certainly wasn’t our first rodeo with Carnival and God willing not our last. Overall the cruise was great with the exceptions of embarkation and debarkation. I hope to sail the Sunrise again and take advantage of the some of the other things it has to offer. While we have been on prettier ships, enjoyed better pampering and sailed for more days we are thankful the lord gave us the physical and financial ability to go on this cruise and will have memories that will stay with us the rest of our lives.
