This ship was selected for us by the travel agent booking our cruise. We were assigned a cabin in the aft with a wraparound balcony. The cabin was small, no seating area. The balcony was very narrow and not very enticing to use. The day of our on-boarding everything went smooth. The elevator attendant complained about having to work the elevator for 3-hours without a break. He said, "I'd kill for a Coke." I just happened to have a mini-Coke in my carry on bag. I gave it to him. He was so happy to get it, he told me his name and said he worked in the casino and for me to look him up - he'd make sure I would win a game. (Hummm! sounds like a winner to me.) On our second day of Port of Call in Progreso, a Carnival employee came through the Lido Breakfast Buffet area with a big cart of bottled water in an over-the-shoulder carrier barking, "Last chance, last chance!" My husband inquired as to the price and the employee quoted $10.00. My husband gave him a $10.00 dollar bill and we got the water. WRONG! Our mistake - you never pay cash on board the ship; your room key is the vehicle for purchasing things. The charges are put on your cabin account number that's attached to the credit card you chose when making your reservations. Oh snap! The employee pocketed $10.00. On our last day at sea another ship's employee (casino auditor) stood beside us at the coffee cafe. We shared our stories and he was apologetic for the unacceptable shenanigans of the staff members. He indicated that there would be some staff meetings and training done to prevent any repeats. Then, he treated us to a cup of coffee. Our cabin was small and it only had (1) one electrical outlet for recharging our phones and plugging in my hair-curler. Our steward brought us a power chord mid-way through the trip. There wasn't a seating area inside the cabin; it was completely filled with bedding. The balcony had rough handrails and rust on the underneath side of the balcony area above us. Several days maintenance crew accessed our cabin to work on balcony refurbishing. Read Less

We chose the Dream because we enjoyed sailing on her out of New Orleans and got a casino offer at a pretty good rate out of Galveston which is where we live. Embarkation was simple and quick. It was really nice that the muster was indoors since it was mid August. Our stateroom was on Lido forward. This meant a lot of walking (I had a knee injury and had to use a cane), but we chose this stateroom so that's on us. The room was clean and tidy, but we didn't see much of our steward. Room was cleaned once per day during dinner hour. This is a far cry from the service Carnival provided in the past, though it's no fault of the steward. He did his best. Smoking areas on 5 and 11 received no bar service. They were very small areas with no access to pool nor whirlpools. Smokers were confined to the very small areas and not allowed to use sun loungers. Deck 5 smoking area was blocked off about half the cruise. Deck 11 smoking was right behind the stack and black oil spots were all over our clothes. Casino area was of course full of smokers. Where else could they go? Carnival makes a good bit of money off of smokers. STOP TREATING THEM LIKE TRASH!! One other thing about the casino...there was a drawing held one night and we were to receive an entry for every 100 points we had. We each had around 1300 points. We realized as we watched the names roll around on the screen that neither of our names were there. That didn't give us a very good feeling. Steakhouse. What happened here? This used to be a very nice experience with yummy food and beautiful composed plates. Now you get a piece of meat and roasted tomato dropped on your plate. Why this change??? Terrible. Raise the price if you need to, but don't just ruin it by destroying the ambience! Main dining Food mediocre as usual, but the service was impeccable. Yaco and his assistants were awesome. Yaco served drinks at the back pool on shore days and was the only server to come up to no man's land (smoking area). Thanks Yaco! Crew They were as awesome as they could be. They are overworked and treated like crap by many cruisers. We always treat them well, enjoy talking with them and tip extra. They are the only really enjoyable part of this cruise. Entertainment Violinists were good. Otherwise really lacking. I know you can get better entertainment. Finally We've all seen the carnival experience go downhill over the years. I understand keeping costs down to allow more people the opportunity to cruise. I've never cuised another line so have nothing to compare it to. I've always loved the cruising experience til now. It was the first time I've wanted to go home from a cruise. If you smoke, be warned you'll be treated by the cruise line as a lower class citizen. I won't say that I'll never cruise again, but right now I sure don't want to. Sad. Read Less

Third cruise; first on Carnival. New Orleans, Roatan, Belize City, Cozumel. Embark/disembark very smooth and efficient. Stateroom: Balcony near aft elevators deck 7. Room pleasant, normal, functional. Had two 12-pack cases of water pre-ordered and delivered to room. Good idea. Ship has sub-par water. Small balcony had push open door rather than sliding. Food: Guy Fieri's Hamburger Joint and his themed Pig and Anchor BBQ. If these were in my town I'd be a regular customer. 24 hour pizza: If this was in my town => out of business in a week. Main dining (Anytime): Ok. Good service, mostly good food. Crew gets celebration going regularly during dinner. Ate off the regular menu; good flat iron steak, poor, skimpy shrimp cocktails. creative appetizers, sides of veggies kinda small, deserts ok+. Feast night ordered two lobster tails. Good idea. Breakfast: Main dining room, not crowded. Good. (eggs benedict). Good coffee. Buffet, Pretty good. Deli made good sandwiches. 24 hr soft serve ice cream stations good. Experienced very few and limited lines or much trouble finding a table. Could have been due to 800 passengers for a business conference who mainly were out of site and may have eaten together when not in meetings. We tended to use the stairs a lot; two flights up/down to stuff. Nice, quiet, get away place in Library room. Movies under the stars were ok, but surrounded by several open bars with folks enjoying a good (noisy) time. Catch the comedians at the Punchline club. Shows in main theater were ok+. Cruise director was great. Over all, would cruise again with them (taking note of 800 preoccupied conference people and some other reviewers talking about long lines). Read Less

Really a nice ship. Staff was excellent: room steward Josephine, wait staff Sunny, Ikatuk & Kadek In Crimson, bartenders Airine (sp? pronounced Irene) and Dwi at Ocean Plaza Bar (next to Alchemy), Tomislav and Harta at the casino, Nana at the Lobby Bar and Dipak at level 10 aft bar. All were EXCELLENT and recognized me by name after first day. Rock band was Excellent, brass jazz/soul band was Excellent too! (Together they were PHENOMENAL!) Steel drum lady was good as well. All other bands were “meh”. Biggest Dissapointment: 1st Caribbean cruise I’ve been on without a Latín band. No salsa, no merengue, no cha cha cha, in other words no spice. The disco was really bad too, not a soul in there probably because the music was terrible, undanceable. Food was very good to excellent. For breakfast go to the lido deck and do the omelette station. Pizza was very good too, open 24 hours. Guy’s Burgers were pretty good but Guy’s BBQ (“Pig & Anchor”) was HIGHLY over-rated. Did not do any shore excursions. Overall, good cruise. Read Less

This was for my birthday, we had the best cruise ever. This was our 17th cruise. Great dining staff, wonderful food. The excursions were very fun. We had no been to these three ports before, Key West, Freeport and Nassau in the Bahamas. All of the crew were super nice. The cruise director Gary was very funny. Enjoyed his morning show every morning. The shows in the evening was great. The crew in the Fun Shops were very nice. The personal shoppers Vanya and Izzy were very informative and helpful in the shops in the ports of call. When it was time to get off the ship it was so easy and pretty fast. If you are thinking of taking a cruise, I would definitely encourage you to take a Carnival Cruise. You would won't be disappointed. We had a great week on the carnival Dream. There was always something for everyone to do. The boat was very clean and staff were always smiling. Our server at dinner, Walter, was outstanding. Always had a great attitude and was the hardest worker I saw all week. He went out of his way to make our dinners great. We will miss his smiling face. There’s plenty for children to do as well as adults. My only complaint would have to be the quality of dinner some nights. I felt the meals were very hit or miss. Most fish was overcooked and a lot of the food was very bland. I’ve only cruised twice previously and it was on royal Caribbean and I have to say that their food in the dining room is better. I will say you can’t beat carnival’s chocolate melting cake though. Also, I can not recommend Guy’s Burger Bar enough. Absolutely delicious. The quick pizza was pretty good as well. Overall I recommend this cruise to any family. It was a great experience. Read Less

Cabin steward Pande was fantastic, he was very friendly and polite. Entertainment in shows were great. Cruise director Alex was very entertaining and easy to talk to. He made sure any and all questions were answered. Staff on lido deck were friendly not pushy when told you didn't want drinks. Ship was very clean and maintained. Dining was outstanding. Loved the fine dining room, only wish you didn't have to dress up on certain nights casual dress should have been ok, (I don't mean shorts, bathing suits or tank tops) Both boarding and exiting ship was fast, and organized. All ports were set up basically the same with same merchandise and shops, sales people were pushy and each said the same thing. Read Less

My wife and I had this cruise scheduled and a hurricane named Harvey changed our itinerary for us. This was also the only cruise on the Dream we had not sailed as anyone that has looked at our profile of cruises will see and our 5th on the Dream. Liked Carnivals new embarkation board with boarding pass, sail and sign card in mail box by cabin door and we love the Cove Balconies on deck 2. The Glory nor the Valor have cove balconies so that will be missed. The entertainment had the best vocals of any of our Carnival cruises since Chris Williams moved on. One of the dancers, Josh looked a lot like Shelton Cooper (Big Bang Theory) The service was fantastic with the exception of the Dream Steakhouse.(read below) Ports and excursions we do not do, mobility problems and to far from soft-serve machine. Son and his wife and their two boys going with us in November all riding the City of New Orleans. First of all this is not a rant against Carnival more of an observation in general and particular this one cruise that I hope will be just a one of. We have two more cruises scheduled on the Dream in November 2018 and Feb. 2019 then sadly the Dream moves to Galveston in May 2019. Now the rest of the story! My reasoning for the claim of (Profit Gouging). 1. Onboard credit has changed from per person to just cabin in other words we would get 25.00 for my wife and 25.00 for me onboard credit booking a 7 day cruise, now just 25.00 for the cabin booked. 2. Gratuity on top of gratuity, I know that a lot of people don't tip any extras and some shame on them do not tip at all. Carnival does charge gratuities either on the front of the cruise or the back of the cruise now another gratuity is added to every sail and sign purchase. My wife and I tip in cash (room service, bar etc.). 3. It could just be me, but appeared to be less staff causing longer wait time and confusion, this also could be for profit over comfort. Now for my one and only big complaint and the end of steak house dinning. We always eat at the Dream Steakhouse our first night and loved it until this cruise. Arrived at Steakhouse at 6:00 PM table for 4 seated and ordered our drinks, all four ordered steak baked potatoes and salad and that's exactly what we got. At 6:45 our steaks arrived, I was about full from all the bread and butter eaten while I was waiting. Halfway through the steak about 7:00 our baked potatoes arrived and at the end of our steak you guess it our salads arrived and my wife's salad wasn't what she ordered. Read Less

Being my first cruise - I learned as the journey continued. Note: My United seat was too small and chairs too close to my knees for me to get out. I would have enjoyed my cruise more if I had "thought" about there being a doctor on the cruise. Because of the hurt sacrum and arthritis, I needed to stop more often. Therefore, I would have LOVED having somewhere to sit on each floor. Even if it was near the elevator. There were very, very few places to sit along the passageways. This would be helpful especially to us older or partially handicapped people. Some people just "loved" the cruise director. Since this was my first cruise, I did not have a previous director to compare him to. As for me, I found his English accent very annoying to my ears and you heard it all over the ship - everywhere all the time. Some people loved him. So I am sure he was very good. Even if you are not ready for a wheelchair (like me) you might consider getting a partially handicapped room if you stumble over things or trip a lot. The reason I say that is the first cabin I was in (like 1202) the restroom floor was raised up about six inches. I had to put the lime green cups in the doorway so I would remember to step up the extra height each time I went into the restroom of my cabin. I went to play bingo - one time. It was very expensive. Also - if you were not the only person who won that game, you had to split the pot with whoever won also. I SURE WISH I HAD BEEN TOLD there was a free shuttle that would take me from the ship into Nassau. It was not a really long trip but it was stifling hot. Also, once you entered into the building to get to town, you could not turn back. You had to go through the building and enter the other side and stand in line to wait for the shuttle back to ship or I guess to walk out and walk back to ship. Not sure how I should have handled having my baggage taken to the bus I was to get on to go from pier to airport --- but I am sure going to find out on my next cruise in December 2018. I went down early and took them myself. Little knowing I would have to stop and start and stop and start for a very, very long ways from ship back and forth through corridors to get to the bus for airport. Surely I could have paid to have my bags put on the bus and me just walk it. I will figure this out at beginning of my next cruise. I was on this first cruise by myself. I am very friendly and so were others but I made sure that I have someone with me for my next cruise and it seemed too long by being alone. I began in cabin 11202 but woke up in wee hours with rocking of ship. Went to guest services and they graciously moved me to another room the next morning. Mucho better. Thank you. Read Less

I was told this was a great ship to cruise on and boy were they right. From the cruise Director Lee to the room steward they did an outstanding job keeping us informed, involved and ready to go bed! Don't have any major complaints that worth talking too much about. The refridgerators are substandard in that they aren't very high quality and don't keep milk. The entertainment was great with lots of 80's music and that was just what made the cruise perfect! I would stay on that ship again without hesitation. I think this ship is moving to Florida in the near future and would highly reccomend it for everyone. The waiters did an outstanding job each evening serving us and entertaing us to the point we wouldn't miss a meal because it was a highlight of our trip as well. The interary was three port stops in as many days and that was not the most desirable schedule because it would have been nice to had a day at sea between for a little rest but the logistics of it was probably why the way it was planned. We were really excited for this cruise. I usually go with Carnival, because the food is great, service is impeccable, and good bang for the buck. Good points first: Embarkation was wonderful! Quick, no long lines, and on the ship in a jiffy. Some of the staff were very friendly. A couple of the salads at the salad bar were really good. A trio of violinists called the Sunny Trio were the high point for us. Very talented and unexpected! Now for the bad: Food quality: Many of the desserts had a gelatinous texture. Chicken served to me at Guy's Pig and Anchor (I think that's the name) was 1/2 skin and fat, and I had to throw most of it away. Pulled pork had some dried out bites that no amount of the delicious bbq sauce would cover up. Dinners were hit and miss. Some were pretty good while others I would rather forget. Service: The worst! I'm a gold member so I've taken my share of Carnival cruises. Never have I had poor service until now. Some of the waiters were downright grumpy! Night 2: Elegant night - Late dining. Our table was given 1 small roll each and the basket was taken away. We waited 1 hour before receiving appetizers, and my son didn't get his! He waited another 15 minutes before bringing it to server's attention. That and the fact that he ordered 2 bottles of wine which had not been served. By this time, we were VERY HUNGRY! My son finally got his appetizer after we were completely finished with ours - sauce dried on the plate presumably from sitting somewhere for a very long time. Bottles of wine came after waiting 90 minutes or more from the time we ordered! This was NOT an isolated incident. We breakfasted with another couple the we just met in the dining room. The wife never received her omelet. When the husband brought it to the waiter's attention (after we were completely finished with our food) I could see the waiter around the corner picking up entree lids until he found the errant omelet and served it to her. It probably had been sitting there 30 minutes. Our last dinner aboard ship, we experienced the same thing. Sitting, sitting, waiting for food...any food. We were just getting our desserts after most of the dining room had left. There were several tables that had this incredible poor service. I had to step aside for wait staff several times a day. Normally they let you pass. The pools: Standing room only! It was ridiculous. I heard several people complaining that the spas were cold to lukewarm. I have to wonder if Carnival has severely cut staff to cut costs. Grumpy waiters, low quality food, & poor service = save $ for Carnival? Carnival, you just lost a long time customer. Read Less

We choose this cruise for price as well as where is was going? We wanted to see more countries than just Mexico and Roatan & Belize were a part of this itinerary? We went to Daniels Monkey & Sloth Sanctuary as well as snorkeled in Roatan then Belize we did shopping at the port then back to the ship to rest up and play a little bingo. Cozumel we did a treasure hunt provided by the jewelry stores. This was a blast and we ended up getting a bracelet dull of charms as well as a necklace & earrings all for free and no purchase necessary. We will take, this cruise again one day. Our only complaint with CCL is their expensive drink packages. I don't drink alcohol but my husband does and CCL requires all parties to purchase the drink package if one person in the cabin purchases it. At over $50.00 a day that is almost what my ticket for the whole cruise cost. Absolutely ridiculous! Our steward Ms. Linda was awesome. We were never without ice in our fridge and our room was cleaned to our expectations. We chose to dine in the crimson room in the evenings at a round table which gave us a chance to meet some new & very interesting people. Our servers were exceptional though I do prefer not to be pushed to try something I never asked for which only happened on out first night thank goodness. The Guys burgers & fries cannot be beat for lunch and the condiment area was always fully stocked. As for the buffet dining, the food was medocre, nothing to brag about but definitely convenient for a last minute snack. I eould just say CCL should eliminate all the dirty mirrors in the buffet dining rooms. If there is no time to clean them then just get rid of them because they wer without a doubt a not appealing to look at while we were trying to eat a meal. as for activities on board, we played bingo one night and watched mivies every night in the big screen under the stars. Probably couldn't get much better than relaxing under the stars while eating popcorn and having an ice cold drink while watching a mivue in the big screen. were already planning our next cruise we kived it so much. The Dream is truly that, a Dream cruise. Extra clean, very friendly personnel, restful time, great food, love, love, love the people who work for Carnival! They are so friendly and accommodating. They took care of every request with no complaint and with a smile. Every area was clean and neat. I never saw any messy areas. Our cabin always had clean towels and extras in some cases. Our steward personally delivered the next days itinerary and any messages. Rafael was GREAT!! All the public bathrooms were clean at all times. There was never any trash left anywhere because someone from the crew was always there picking up, mopping, vacuuming, and wiping down every area. I never saw any unsanitary areas. All public bathrooms had plenty paper and soap. Every where I turned, there was a dispenser for antibacterial solution and it was always full. Every time someone left a table in any eating area, there was someone cleaning it for the next person. I have NO complaints about any part of the cruise.I didn't rate the entertainment excellent simply because it just wasn't my musical tastes, but my husband who is a musician said that every musician and dancer was talented. Feb. 3, 2018 Day One, my Wife and I arrive at the Days Inn Gretna, La. one day earlier than our Cruise, this is our normal routine. As we check in I notice things are getting run down and in disrepair, the continental breakfast that is still advertised is no longer available and the lounge has been turned over to a private contractor and did not even open. Our room looked ok but had water spots on the ceiling and a stale odor. The room next to ours had several screaming kids from what appeared to be a family living in the hotel (not a good night). The Days Inn is a park and cruise hotel, but this was definitely our last stay. Our next cruise is scheduled in May and we are not driving, instead taking the train from Memphis. Embarkation was fairly smooth had an issue with removing all the metal before passing through the detector. Once onboard we just sat in the theater for about an hour, this is to let all the (me first) I am (in a hurry) people try to get to (where ever) before anyone else. When you first get on breath and try to relax! This was our 4th cruise on the Carnival Dream and our second cove balcony. The Dream for us is a very entertaining and fun ship, Capt. Bovo and the crew were fantastic, Our cabin 2354 Main deck had a little noise, but nothing like what I had read on another post, if you want total silence visit the onboard morgue! The cuisine has improved with the return of Lobster and our servers (always changing due to anytime dining) were great. The entertainment was very good but we missed Chris Williams our Cruise Director from past cruises on the Dream. The port day's my wife and I stayed onboard, we have the ship to ourselves, no wait elevators or food lines. Getting on and off the ship was easy and quick as we are platinum, which helps. No issues that we saw anywhere. We love cruising out of New Orleans! We were in a porthole cabin, so at the very front of the ship! We saw high waves a few times due to the bad weather, but fairly smooth ride. Noisy when the anchor chain goes down, but time to be up and about, so not a big deal. The ship seemed to shudder towards the center of the ship when docking we noticed walking down the hallway. Decent cabin service, but as in recent cruises, steward trying to come into the cabin, knocking and opening the door at the same time. What's up with that? So many dining options! Will never understand how some reviewers complain about the food as there are so many choices! First ever cruise that we could not drink the iced tap water, the water or the ice had a bad taste! Coffee, lemonade, iced tea were ok to drink. Excellent Guy's Burgers, Pizza, sub sandwiches to die for until late. We didn't try the Mongolian Wok this time, but felt like we missed out. Love the freshly made omelettes on the Lido deck better than in the dining room, although we ate breakfast both places. Coffee, juice, and Eggs Benedict seem better in the dining room. We only snacked for lunch or mid-afternoon with a soft-serve ice cream or fresh fruit, so didn't really sample the buffet for lunch or the dining room. We always ate dinner in the dining room. Meals were excellent! Service a little hit and miss, but not so noticeable, except the last night. We always have coffee with our dessert, and the coffee didn't always get there. We were at a big table for 10. Loved the comedians, more so the ones at the beginning of the cruise. The shows in the theater are pretty awesome, but we've seen them all before on other cruises last year with a different cast. Worth seeing once or twice, but getting old after 4 times or more. We had 3 ports, but were rained out pretty much in Belize and Mahogany Bay, so we didn't even get off the ship. Ate, hung out in the hot tubs, and participated in some trivia games. We had a beautiful day in Cozumel, so wandered around the port on our own, picking up some local honey and vanilla. Recommend the Dream class ships for any cruise! Read Less

Food in the dining room we thought was very good. On special nights it included prime rib & lobster. We also went to Steakhouse for a additional charge of $40.00 per person. It was outstanding and service was impeccable. Well worth the money and a great way to celebrate a occasion. We also had a Cove balcony. A first for us but very popular. It is close to the waterline and is partially enclosed on the sides to limit splash. Would book this type of balcony again as it lends a up close look at flying fish, dolphins etc.. Service was outstanding as far as Room stewards & dining personnel. Bedding was very comfortable. Entertainment in theater was above average with different themes on different nights. Upon leaving the ship disembarkation was very quick. Would book this ship again. Read Less

Our Cabin had to be cleaned before we unpacked (clumps of hair on shower walls, stained carpet, pink splatters on walls and ceiling) Regular food was mediocre but we also had a Vegan with us and their idea of accommodation was to ask her each night which of the side dishes from the other meals she wanted. The featured vegetarian meal was the same Indian food all 7 nights. Some the lunch restaurants have options such as a taco salad or veggie burger but they are not printed anywhere and you might only know about it until day 5 when you hear someone else in line ask for it. The specialty restaurants such as BBQ, Mexican, Burgers, Indian, Asian, Pasta are only open for lunch. Our group spent over $1,000 in the spa and they were slow, rude and not helpful on at least 5 different visits. You could not even leave the spa without waiting for the one person working the desk to complete a 10 minute sales pitch for someone else since you had to get your room key back from her. They have a cart with signs that let you pick your own ingredients for a self body scrub. When you ask the spa attendant how you use this service (that we paid for) she went in back and brought out a chocolate mint scrub. When we asked about the sign that tells you to pick your own ingredients, she said they don't do that and she went in back again and brought a second scrub option. I was charged for someone elses drinks one evening in the lounge and customer service took it off only to add it back on a day later. Over 60% of the ships daytime activities are based on getting more money out of you. (spa seminars, jewelry events, sales, auctions, photos, casino, yoga classes, ...) The ship's layout blocks sections of the ship on several of the activity and dining decks so you have to change floors, walk to the other section of the ship and then go back to the floor where you wanted to go. I don't know if this is Carnival or just this one ship but we will choose a different cruise line next time. Read Less

This was our first Christmas cruise, and maybe our last. It just wasnt Christmas for us. We spent Christmas Day evening in the Speciality Steakhouse. and I can say I was really underwhelmed and it was definately not worth the extra money. I had the surf and turf and my lobster tail and steak were barely lukewarm when It was served. The melted butter for the lobster was warmer than the food. They offered to replace the dinner, but by the time they asked how the meal was, my husband was finished with his meal, and who wants to wait for another meal to be fixed and eat alone? Don't waste your money. We ate every other night in the formal dining, and the food was very good. We had a set time (6:00 p.m) and we loved having the same waiters and table mates each night that we could visit with. I loved being able to try new things each day. We tried the Mongolian Wok, good but very spicey, just be forwarned. Pig and Anchor was just ok. Guy's burger joint had very good hamburgers. The buffet was just ok. The chocolate special was not good at all. I saw a lot of food not eaten on people's plates. We had omlets a couple of mornings, and they were very good. The sea day brunch was good. Don't expect to take a swim, the pools are small and overcrowded. The Whirlpools are cold, not even warm. The cruise director was not the best we have had, and was very self-serving, not extremely funny. We took a Scenic Wildlife River Cruise (Carnival excursion) and it was really underwhelming. Just a boat that went up the river 10 miles and back. It had a roadway running alongside the river, so not really scenic. The wildlife consisted of 1 monkey, 2 iguanas, one small alligator. Certainly not worth the money. We would not take this cruise again. Overall, not my best cruise, but ok. Read Less

Were it not for the relentless noise I would really like this ship. Clean, bright, modern, great cabin, good food. Two problem areas: terrible entertainment and noise, noise, noise. 3,500 people cheering, chanting, arguing, laughing and talking is noisy enough but add amped up music, announcements about sales and the general din of engines and fans and you have no tranquility at sea. Perhaps the musicians and crew are deaf ... I nearly am after 7 days. The theatre shows (mimed singing) and trotting about a stage are amped to distortion level so you can't understand anyone who actually sings. Even the classical musicians who play in the worst possible place - the atrium - blast through microphones and huge speakers. Should I add that the lame comedians barely elicit a grin? I didn't attend their "adult" shows because I figured if you aren't funny in a regular show then you won't be funny with swearing and toilet talk. In the outdoor theatre they showed the same film twice. Read Less

My husband and I had taken this cruise many years ago from a different port and ended up avoiding a hurricane at the time. We could not go to Cozumel because the docks were blown out so stayed out to sea for an extra day. We had been to this port previously on another cruise so weren't affected or disappointed. Safety first! We thought that this time we would rebook the cruise to see the sights we had missed in Roatan and Belize so travelled to New Orleans for the Carnival "Dream". We booked an excursion for Belize but unfortunately it was cancelled and we could not go because of hurricane Nate. Safety first! When we stopped in Mahogany Bay, we were told that there was no bus to town but could take a taxi. There is a hop on/off offered but it only makes one stop which is the east end & west end with no stops in the town. We did find out that there was a local bus but then got caught in a torrential rain storm so headed back to the ship. Our stop in Cozumel was not where we had docked previously but at Carnival's port just outside of town along with four other Carnival ships. Busy, busy We do not join in on the activities but did enjoy the entertainment which was very entertaining with high energy and great choreography. The food was very good and had good service in the restaurant and the buffet. Our ship was delayed returning to New Orleans by a day because of the hurricane. The Captain kept us informed on a regular basis as to our arrival and deportation which was very smooth for us, with taking our own luggage off. Read Less

We've been on Carnival cruises in the past and they have upped their game! Service was very good. Food has gotten better. Shore excursions were very fun, well organized, very informative and priced appropriately. I found the spa services a little lacking however. Massage was okay. Certainly not the best I've ever had. The manicure was the worst ever. $50.00 and she fiiled the ridges off across the top of my nails leaving them so thin they broke off within the next 2 days and were a mess. Also whatever services they have ,they try to sell you way overpriced products. The ship was very clean and room was nice with balcony. Our room steward was very good and friendly. He introduced himself right away and asked when we normally like to have our room serviced. He always took care of everything when we wanted and made great towel animals every day. Outdoor movies were okay for viewing but very hard to hear with the kids still in the pool and loud and splashing. We really enjoyed the entertainment every evening. A very talented bunch! Embarkation was smooth and timely as was debarkation. Enjoyed our day in New Orleans where we did Cajun Encounters Swamp Tour. Very fun! Ate at Kenny's Seafood, it's a fish market and restaurant , very good food! Read Less

Seemed like a nice time to take a cruise, boy was I clueless. Too too many kids taking up pools, hot tubs, running into people, screaming and running down hallways until 3am nightly. Party mommas do you know where in the hell your kids are at 12-3am. Several very rude kids, all but run u down. Had to ask for ice everyday. These people working on the ship worked non stop. They were so worn out, they didn't even greet cruise guest, The cruise director is definitely awesome and the glue to keep this ship going. Food was not very appetizing in MDR. We did dine in steakhouse last cruise night, it was the best food I had all week. Not enough activities for adults. The adult aft pool had more kids then adults most days. Belize was ok, enjoyed cavetubing, Mahogany Bay was ok. I would not care to return to these ports anytime soon, I do not plan to cruise with Carnival @ New Year, Mardi Gras, Easter, June July, August, Sept. Thanksgiving week or Christmas week. I can not deal with unsupervised children runnning wild all day & night until 3am. Read Less

Date, price and ship. This was my 9th cruise on Carnival but never on the Dream. The ship was great, loved the new choices for lunch and dinner. Just wish the BBq places open more hours. It is only open on sea days from noon till 230. So made it really hard to plan to eat there. Love our cabin and all the crew members. We had the new American Table and I thought the food was great. Not having a table cloth on nights other than elegant nights was fine with me. I loved the all the new choices. Guys Burgers is still one of my favorite, you can't beat the pizza that is available 24 hours and I never had to wait over 5 minutes with a long line. The shows were good and I loved the larger casino. The slots seem to pay out better than some ships. Will be trying to book the dream again soon. Read Less

Liked the deportation city of New Orleans, 3 hours from our home, with family where we could spend the night before, and no need for a flight. However, very few people on the trip were from Louisiana. The ship was huge, with over 3000 passengers. Surprisingly, even though the ship was fully booked, I never noticed the mobs of people I expected to see. The weather was cooler than expected, so the pools were not crowded. DH likes the buffet, and even though we selected early dining, we only went to eat there one night. The dining and buffet have some of the same entrees, although the dining has more selections. If you want to drink with your meal, don't mind waiting a few minutes for your food and want more elegant decor, then go with the dining. With the buffet, the food is ready and you can go back for more of something right away (if you have room). The lines never got very long. The one drawback I noticed was the food wasn't as warm as I would have liked at the buffet. I like buttered toast in the morning, and the toast was room temperature. We were told that we could ask for an attendant to toast some for us, but when my husband asked, the food attendant simply pointed at the toast- the food service employees are as friendly as you could ask for, but many are not very English proficient. The coffee was very good and always piping hot! Failsafe ways to get hot food- Mongolian Wok, Guys Hamburger, Guys Barbeque, omelet station. Big plus for the buffet was the large selection of fruits and vegetables. You could easily fill up just on this. Thanks for not having many fried foods guys! We never tried the pizza but it was open 24 hours, as was the self serve soft ice cream. Drinks available for no cost at the buffet are iced tea, coffee, lemonade, apple juice, and sometimes a mango mix drink, and water. Tip: The food tends to be not highly seasoned, so if you like it this way then you might want to bring your own favorite seasoning. All that is available on the table is salt and pepper. There are some sauces available, such as soy, ketchup, etc. We saw one show on board, the Motor City, and it was very well performed with singing and dancing. Also one comedy show, Just June, very funny. Read Less

This cruise got off to a rough start because of a difficult embarkation process and then rough seas for the first two days at sea. My wife and I both were ill. Now to the good. The balcony cabin was nice. Plenty of space and a nice sized bathroom. Overall the food was good ( especially liked Guy's Burgers). The stage shows were very good, especially impressive was the technical backgrounds and the performer interaction with the projected imagery. The seats in the theater get a bit uncomfortable after a time. The comedy shows were also good as well as various groups playing around the ship.. I particularly liked the violin trio. The public areas of the ship were nice kept very clean to the point that parts of the Lido deck were slippery from excessive mopping. There is too much space being occupied by photographers and photo displays. Everyone has a phone, Let us enjoy the cruise.without constant photo pestering. As far as getting of the ship Jamaica was disappointing, but the Caymans were beautiful and so was Cozumel. The tendering went smoothly in the Caymans and it is fun to glide over the turquoise crystal clear water. Finally the disembarkation featured too much waiting and long lines. Not sure of the problem there. All in all a good cruise. Read Less
