I booked this cruise going to Bahamas leaving on October 16,2016 for my fiancé birthday, it wasn't until we checked in to customs that we were told we were going to Grand Turks only! once in Grand Turks the waves were too strong to do anything, I also paid for the Cheers package couldn't enjoy due to rocking boat. Spoke to several people at carnival all they give me is their policy. You get a penalty if you cancel your cruise but if the cruise line cancel your itinerary and don't inform you until you checking in, there's no penalty and you don't have a choice to reschedule. I am very disappointed with the service I received from Carnival Cruise Line. Carnival knew well in advance the islands were not ready for visitors. I praying someone is looking into the complaints and do the right thing by those of us who felt cheated. Read Less

We took the 3-day trip from Long Beach to Ensenada. We had an awesome experience and the entire weekend was just one long party. We got to pre-board for the wedding making it very easy, then a beautiful wedding/reception that was followed by 3-days of non-stop fun and partying. The room steward was the best, our room was always fresh, clean and he always met us with a smile or friendly word. This was our first cruise and we were impressed by how much space we actually had in our standard room, good water pressure in the shower and toilets worked surprisingly well. Nice linens & pillows, the cute towel animals each night was a pleasant treat, and room was relatively quiet except the drunks/kids in the hallway. We dined with our group in the dining room each night and was treated to nice dinners and friendly wait staff. There were a couple of hiccups there, but the staff was always so friendly, accommodating, and fun, you really didn't mind. The only thing that could use some improvement was the very slow service at the bars. Be ready to spend a bit of time to get a drink, and even when they're not busy don't expect fast service (and they're not friendly ~ except the young gal in the atrium bar, she at least served her drinks with a hello & smile). We used the Carnival Hub app on our phones to communicate with each other, $5 charge is well worth it if you are travelling with a group. Our day in Ensenada was a lot of fun too. We went to the Rosario Beach Party at Papas & Beer. It is just what you would expect for a laid-back Mexico style party bar. They provided us seating in their reserved beach area (broken old plastic furniture), shade umbrellas, decent lunch, cold beers and great service. No complaints. The locals will try to peddle their wears but that is just Mexico, be ready for it. It's only about 30 minutes south of San Diego, so expect the ocean to have the same cold water. When the cruise ended they have that have that process down really smooth too, and we had no delays or problem (we took our own luggage off the boat). Would definitely do this trip again!! If you're looking for a quiet relaxing get away this is NOT the cruise for you. It's a fun party from the minute you board the ship. Read Less

This was my first cruise, and i was so excited, was rather amused to see so many kids knowing that christmas break had not started yet, and there was a rather obnoxious thug like group that ran unchecked the entire time. There were so many people, and the noise level seemed very loud. The music at the pool was not relaxing, it was of the "hip hop" variety for the most part. Not all of us are into it, and after two days of watching certain people "whip" and nae nae. I wanted to puke. We were not able to use the hot tubs because they were packed with kids that should have been in school. There were also people smoking out on the main deck, no one said anything to them. Our cabin was on the second level, towards the front of the ship, and not only did we feel waves, it sounded like doors slamming all night, this also added to my frustration. The hallway smelled like sewage, and towards the end of the cruise, many places smelled of vomit. The chairs were also sticky right along with the floors. So by saturday, i was more than ready to get off the ship, and honestly had no desire to get back on. We only had 6 hours at cozumel, which is also crap. The process of unloading the passengers was mass confusion, and everyone began crowding, it could have been a disaster, so much for all their "safety"concerns. We were also warned to be back by 330 pm or they would have no problem "leaving us". Many of us bought alcohol and it was promptly confiscated upon return. That way they could continue to charge over inflated prices for drinks. The bottles we bought were for gifts. They had no worries with us. My husband stood in line for over an hour the last morning in order to retrieve them, others spent longer. We did go to the comedy club on Saturday night, and even then, kids were there as well, although they were asked to leave for the late performance, which was actually the best part of the cruise. For the most part, i was stressed getting off this tub, and i won't be back. I do not feel like Carnival takes safety seriously, or their security would have been more present enforcing rules. Parents do not parent anymore, and people do not act like adults. That dosen't mean that i want to spend several days putting up with it. I can get enough of that at the mall. Read Less

This is our 5th cruise with Carnival and it will probably be our last. Sad to say because the Cruises to Nowhere fit our schedule as well as our budget. I'm not the type of person to complain if there weren't any chocolates left on my pillow or anything like that so take this as an honest review. We received an email that they are trying something new---staggered check-in and to arrive between 1pm and 3pm. We arrived at 12:55 and stood on-line (outside in the heat) for about 3 hours :-( No one came out to tell us what the delay was. At one point, my husband looked at me and asked if I was okay. I sat down in the shade in order to get out of the sun. I don't mind waiting but as least let the passengers know what's going on. Once we arrived inside the port, we had a number stamped on our boarding passes and were told to wait (again) in a section. At least we were able to sit down but it felt like we were at the DMV. This was just terrible. Now, we finally got inside the ship and went to our rooms to use the restroom and put down our luggage. We took no more than 2 minutes and we rushed up to the Lido desk to have lunch. Once we arrived, the buffet was being shut down. I would have appreciated if they stayed open longer due to the looong wait to check-in. By this time it was almost 5:30 and our first day was pretty much gone. Normally, we check-in in about 90 minutes and this allows us time to enjoy our first day. Not this time, due to the standing in the sun for hours, everyone was pretty much pooped. Now on to the fun part.....I am African-American, so please don't get the wrong idea when I say this. However, there were quite a few other African-American's on board who clearly had zero class. I am all about having fun and enjoying myself but there is a time and place for everything. There was a lot of cursing and talking extra loud and I really didn't appreciate it. Our party consisted of my husband, step-daughter, parents and brother. Each one of us was ready to go once we were back to the port on the last day. Now, back to the ship, our cabin steward cleaned our room the next morning and later around noon, we went back to change our clothes. The steward knocked on the door and about 3 seconds later, entered without giving any of us a chance to say come on. I asked if I can help him and he said he wanted to know if we needed our room clean. I said that he already cleaned it this morning and he left. That was VERY fishy to me. I did send Carnival a complaint on-line regarding that. Also, they only had karoke one time at 2pm. I like karoke in the evening when people are ready to have a good time. Not at 2pm, and some folks are still waking up. We didn't have toiletries in our cabin, maybe they are trying to save money, not sure. I look forward to the lobster tail dinner on the second night but that was ONLY offered for an additional charge. This is the first time in 5 cruises that the lobster tail wasn't included. On the second day, we went to play one of the trivia games. It was over in 15 minutes. Normally, they play 2 or 3 games in a row. Also, many of the night clubs and bars were closed at random times of the day,not sure why. The pool had also been closed, we heard it was due to kids playing around, again, not sure. You know how the serves come around and offer you the drink of the day in the cute plastic container, we were asked only once the entire time. I don't drink much on vacation, but I would have appreciated if I had been asked more. We decided to go to the art auction. Normally, they serve champagne as you walk in. This time, we waited for about 20 minutes and the presenter said that there was a delay with the server. At the auction, we were given 3 stickies for you to put on artwork you would like to see them show so that you can (possibly) bid if interested. After we took our time walking around and placing the stickies on work as instructed, they never showed ANY of them. My husband put a sticky on 3 pieces, not one was showed. Again, we aren't sure why. The ship itself is very nice. We liked the pink/shell/oyster/pearl decor. One plus, was the Asian band that plays R&B music and also good music to dance to. They are really good. Give them a try next time you visit one of the bars. There was also a Latin group that we heard as we were passing by and they had some really nice music to dance to. All in all, I really enjoyed Carnival up until this point. Perhaps I will try them again on a different cruise. Maybe the Cruise to Nowhere is no longer for us. Read Less

I have been cruising and loyal to Carnival for years now. Mainly because of the great service, fun times and awesome prices. Carnival Splendor changed my perception of Carnival completely. Where do I begin? *It took 2.5 hours standing and waiting in the HOT sun just to board the ship. *We were provided luggage tags only to find out that they were not checking luggage. (would have been nice to know this in advance) *Once we finally reached the counter the person checking us in was very nice but just did not know how to work the system. We were asked to go stand in yet another line just put our credit card on file. *Once we swiped our sail and sign cards to get on the boat we were rushed and not given any information/ directions on anything. Where were the JUST ASK T-shirt crew members that we are use to seeing? *Camp carnival wasn't available 1st night of our cruise (on a 2 night cruise)??? *Paid for night owls and the kids were made to lay down and go to sleep??? WHAT FUN? *Every crew member we asked for directions had NO CLUE how to find anything on the boat. Either they did not speak well enough English or they would simply point us in the wrong direction! *The only staff that were friendly and accommodating were our servers at our 6 o'clock dinner. *the staff that waited on us for breakfast on Sunday seemed completely irritated when we asked for coffee. Putting up there finger saying "your going to have to wait" I have never experienced a cruise like this before. I called the 800 # to complain and they said there wasn't anything they could do. I have sailed on Fantasy several times and never had a bad time. Everyone on Fantasy was great! DO NOT SAIL WITH CARNIVAL SPLENDOR. Read Less

My 2 good friends and I chose this option because it wasn't terribly expensive. We were supposed to go to Catalina Island and then Ensenada. The day before we leave, we get an email stating that due to poor weather we weren't able to go to Catalina and had to change ports from Long Island to San Diego (about three hours further from us). We were upset but decided to make the best of it. One of my friends had an unexpected death in the family and had to cancel. "Luckily" we purchased the trip insurance. It has been a complete hassle to get a refund for her portion of the trip. You all but have to sell your first born to make any progress. The cruise line doesn't assist you and the insurance company is awful. Back to the cruise, the activities on the ship are poorly planned and they don't cater to young adults (twenties). So, being stuck on there an extra day wasn't great. The only reason we had a good time was being with a friend and being able to get off the ship in Mexico. The food was not great and the drinks are inflated like crazy. In our cabin, there were two outlets but we had to tape our device to one of them because it wasn't holding anything. Their are MUCH better cruise lines out there. I will never go on another Carnival cruise. Read Less

I found the staff the best thing. They were caring and helpful and earnest to make this little cruise fun. They were outstanding in name recall. AMAZING for a 4-day cruise. The ship was festive. The food was good, the ship was fun, the kids kept busy, so I didn't notice them much, and everything was clean. We had a great time. There could have been more daytime activities...basket weaving, dollar bill origami, that sort of thing would have been fun. The books were locked up and you had to go to the service desk to get someone to trek over to get a book. But the library was pretty and quiet with lots of good sitting areas. On the 4-day cruise there was only one big show, and all the entertainment started after 9pm...late for old folks, who are a large percentage of cruisers. Though on this cruise (and Carnival's reputation in general) the age was younger. But still, lots of seniors. I'd have liked the entertainment to be in shifts so early diners could catch a comedy show and still go to sleep at 10.

This was our 4th CTN with 2 very recent ones on NCL Jewel and Gem, and Carnival Victory a few years back. Our 2 NCL CTN's were in the Winter, so this was a nice change taking a CTN in August as we spent the entire 2nd day at sea in the sun. Was very hard to find a lounge chair to sun due to the beautiful sunny weather and literally all 3,000 passengers were out there. Lets get the meat and potatoes of the cruise.

Overall we had a fantastic cruise, the service was excellent everywhere, from our Cabin Steward, to our Waiters, to the roaming bar servers.

Fastest embarkation on record, we got to the Manhattan piers at 11 AM, paid $70 to park, breezed through security, and literally boarded as part of zone 3 by 11:15. We were eating lunch on the LIDO deck by 11:30. Debarkation was smooth, ship returned to the pier by 6:30 AM, and passengers started leaving by 8 AM as they called you off by deck number, no stress no worries, we carried our luggage on and off ourselves.

We had balcony cabin 8267, typical Carnival room, plenty of storage, flat screen TV, lots of storage, free products in the bathroom with an adequate shower with shower curtain. Only negative was that our cabin was located too close the lobby elevators and we could literally hear the elevators buzz on arrival and the music from the lobby came up and could be heard in the room.

Ship was recently updated in December of 2012, mostly hits, some misses. The whirlpool in the gym had the ugliest brown fake rock formation I have ever seen at sea. This ship still has some of the gaudy decorations that have now been retired by Carnival on the newer ships. The disco was the ugliest one we have ever seen on any ship, piano bar was a blood red and black, thank god they changed designers finally.

The pools for some reason by their paint scheme made the water look green and unappealing. We never went in them as the pools were packed during the CTN. Winners of course were the Guy Fieti's burger bar, the burrito bar, the Red Frog bars by the pool, and this ship has the first Fish and Chip's food area that I ever saw at sea and the food there was delicious.

We ate both of our lunches at the LIDO buffet, food was good, lots of variety, if you can't find something you like then you are too picky an eater. We ate our breakfasts in the main dining room, that was a great choice as they were not crowded, service was excellent, and food choices of filet mignon, eggs benedict, etc were very very good. We ate our 2 dinners also in the main dining room, mostly hits, nothing to complain about, highlights were the melting chocolate cake, lobster, the soups, etc.

The casino was packed, everyone was having fun in there. Surprisingly there was no formal show on night one which worked out well as we took pictures, listened and danced to a very good Latin band, then danced in the packed disco, what a great time. The second night we watched the very entertaining Latin show, we liked the new Carnival glitz show and the short 30 minute presentation. The crowd on the CTN varied from young to older adults, a few kids, and just lots people having a lot of fun.

Overall, the was our favorite cruise to nowhere since we got to sun in the beautiful weather, everyone was in a party mood, we stayed up late dancing and people watching, we would take this ship again. This type of vacation hands beats a weekend in Atlantic City or the Poconos, we are already looking at booking our next CTN.

We just came back from another 2 night cruise to nowhere on the Carnival Glory.

Arrived at the port by 10:30am and was on the ship by 11:10am and followed everyone to the buffet area. Unlike the last time we did this the buffet area had plenty of seating and the lunch buffet was very good. We had no complaints. The deli part of it was actually very good.

After lunch we took a spa tour and I signed up for a gentlemens shave/facial later on that day. We walked around the ship and got to cabin at 1pm and unpacked. Cabin 8461 aft with extended balcony. Small cabin but nice balcony. For a couple of days it was fine. We usually stay in suites but on a 2 nighter what's the point.

The ship never felt crowded except during the muster drill. It was a full ship. Ate both nights in the steakhouse. Both meals were fantastic and worth the up charge to us. There was no production show our first night and they cancelled the adult comedy show at 1130pm that night. This was very disappointing. All there was to do was gamble and drink. So we did. The gambling wasn't good to us but I did see many people getting hand paid on the slots. So some people were winning. My spa treatment was nice and spa was good. The second night went to a very weak latin stage show and saw the adult comedy show late night that was so packed we had to stand. The comedy was funny so we didn't mind standing for about 40 minutes.

Had great weather and calm seas. All in all we had a real good time.

Just returned from a 2 Day Cruise to No Where with my DH and my niece. DH and I are seasoned cruisers and have been on Royal and NCL. We are now legal guardians to my 13 year old niece so sharing a vacation and a cabin with a child is new to us so we thought a 2 day cruise would be perfect way to try it out.

Love leaving out of Manhattan. Coming from CT its a pleasant drive. Because we left early we were on the pier about 10:30 so parking was not an issue and were on board by 11:30. Being a 2 day, you bring your own luggage on board. Not an issue expect we had to drag it around for 2+ hours. We did a 2 day on NCL in Feb and they allowed you to leave your luggage in one of the clubs until the rooms were ready. Carnival, take note, that is a nice option!

Heard good things about Guys Burgers and headed there first. YUM! I am not a burger fan but this really was delicious. Fries were delish too!

Being there was a light rain, we walked around exploring the ship  with luggage in tow. I agree with others that said the layout is hard to manage and in some regards, strange. NCL is guilty of this too as you cant always walk from front to back or my personal pet peeve, you have to walk through the middle of a club or restaurant to get to the other side. This is where I miss Royal and the promenade.

Rooms are finally ready so we are eager to get rid of our luggage. I booked the Ocean Suite and it was very nice though smaller than I expected. Again, DH and I are still getting accustomed to being parents and now sharing a very small space hence the upgrade to a suite. It worked out fine though the bed was harder than I would of liked.

With prayers answered, the sun was out just in time for sail away. I was eager to show my niece the Status of Liberty and going under the bridge. We went to the very top deck and watched us pull out of our berth and start down the river. My niece was already bored watching the skyline and went to the pool, LOL. DH and I enjoyed the sun, the sights and the excitement of going under the bridge. You really do worry that youre not going to make it!

Off to dinner in the My Time dining room. On a longer cruise, I always choose the late seating as my favorite part of cruising is the camaraderie you develop with the wait staff. I have been blessed each cruise with an amazing wait staff so though the staff was excellent and served me well, I still missed the personal touches of being served by the same people night after night. Oh, I did love the dancing and singing in the dining room by the wait staff. My niece of course was totally embarrassed by my participation, but I enjoyed myself.

The one requirement I asked of my niece was to go to the meet & greet at Circle C (Carnivals kids camp). She begrudgingly attended after dinner but when I returned to pick her up, she was out & about with her new found friends. My plan worked! Now DH and I could go dancing while she was out with her friends.

Not having ever used the kids camps before, I didnt know what to expect and have nothing to compare it to. I did think the 12-14 year old room was rather small and didnt see much in there to entertain them whereas the small kids area was very large and the older kids was set up like a night club. There were planned activities but niece preferred wondering around the ship with her group of friends.

Next day was gorgeous and sunny. Went to Red Sail for breakfast and seemed to beat the crowd as there werent any lines (there were very long a couple hours later). Its funny as I thought the buffet area on the Glory was very welcoming and warm and not loud & chaotic, but it was a bit frustrating to wait in line to get your food. Then again, NCL & Royals buffet area is a mad house with people in front of you, behind you and all over trying to get their portions. Still not sure which I prefer.chaos or lines.

By 9:30 am finding lounge chairs by the pool was near impossible. We managed to find two for DH & I and my niece went by herself and located one in another area. She didnt stay there long as she wanted to go find her friends. We on the other hand, stayed in the pool area all day people watching. We did leave for lunch  pizza and burritos (yummy) but otherwise relaxed all day.

They did the usual pool games, music and ice sculpting on deck during the day. From 12 to 4 they had a DJ on deck which I enjoyed. I kinda liked the shout outs for birthdays, anniversaries and what not. It kept the energy high in the area.

After 7 hours in the sun, I was ready for a shower and of course to eat. Another dinner in the Golden something dining room and they had lobster which surprised me. Thinking its only 2 days, they wouldnt serve lobster. But they did and I was oh so happy. Another dance with the wait staff and off we went. Took a family photo  our first, and off she went with her friends and off we went to enjoy a beautiful evening on deck and later to dance the night away.

Unfortunately two days goes by so quickly and the next morning had breakfast, packed up and disembarked. Disembarkation went smoothly but as always theres a lot of people so the lines to get off tend to be long.

Overall, I enjoyed myself. I am not hard to please, I have a go with the flow, make the best it attitude and had a nice long weekend. I do miss the easy layout of Royals ship and I do prefer Royals color schemes as they are more subdue. I thought Glory looked too shiny and glossy and you can easily tell the new upgraded areas from the old because of this. For example, the Alchemy Bar is done with a neutral stone bar, leather seating and wood floors whereas the hallway floor leading to it is a shiny glittery black tile with glittery color tiles sprinkled about with a mirrored ceiling, and loud colored seating. Not my personal preference but it certainly did not take away from my experience.

I also think the lobby areas on other ships fall short of the wow factor. But again, I love the promenade with the sidewalk feel and its big open space. Again a personal preference. I will say I enjoyed the food on Carnival a lot, the DJs were excellent and didnt make me feel old by playing music I couldnt dance too and the staff was over the top friendly and helpful  I mean amazingly nice and eager to help you.

So, how was it with my niece? Good. Im glad she had a good time, met some kids and was able to do her own thing so we could have some adult time. I learned establishing rules are vital and knowing how to get back to the cabin are also very important (for her and me, LOL!).

How was my first time on Carnival? No complaints really. I like to cruise. I like having my bed made each night, my room cleaned daily, a variety of foods to choose from and try, entertainment within walking distance, and not having a care in the world for a while.

So the question now is where to next?
