Great New Ship
"I was skeptical of a stage being useful in the atrium of the ship, but Carnival Mardi Gras and her staff have made it work.Overall, for a new ship with a new crew, other than a few small glitches, I would highly recommend the Mardi Gras!..."Read More

Pretty Good, but Headed for Troubled Waters at Full Capacity

Review for Carnival Mardi Gras to Caribbean - Western

Review at a Glance (TLDR): - I would give a 3.5/5 if half ratings were possible. I rounded down because I foresee major issues as passenger numbers ramp up towards capacity. - 60% capacity (3,875 passengers) - Excursions are highlight experiences and should definitely be booked in Cozumel and Costa Maya - There is enough to do in Rotan to forego booking an excursion in favor of the ...

I was obsessed with trying out the Bolt roller coaster and it didn't disappoint. I had a blast on Bolt, the ropes course and the water slides (and I'm a 44 year old man). The Italian restaurant was an absolute pleasure and the staff couldn't have been any friendlier. Rudi's Seagrill was also good, but I'm not sure it was worth the upcharge. The Cruise Director was really good, although I must ...

After multiple cancellations we were very excited to be back on a cruise! First, the good: The service folks were top notch everywhere we were. Cabin steward, dining room waiters, bar staff just couldn't have been better nor friendlier. Center Stage Band featuring Coco and Calvin were fantastic. The Backyard Band at Guy's Pig and Anchor were excellent (except when they got in the ...

Really nice cruise except for a few hiccups

We were on the Mardi Gras with only 60% capacity. I have been on large ships before and the Mardi Gras does not have the space for a lot of people. The Center Stage area was spacious and beautiful, but it was still too small for some of the events /crowds. For Bingo, there was standing room only even if you got there 1/2 hr before the start time. They did have clip boards in the front/stage ...

We were on the 9/4 sailing on Mardi Gras. The lead up to the cruise was stressful with getting covid tests but it was so worth it!. We loved the ship and wearing masks wasn't a big deal to us. The many different dining areas were great. We liked that Guys has its own area now. We had dinner in the main dining room 4 nights. One night we dined in Cucina which was free right now. It was SO good - ...

Great New Ship

A group of five of us went on the new Carnival Mardi Gras. It is a beautiful ship with a very pleasant and soothing tropical decor. From what I was told by a crew member, the ship sailed at about 65% capacity. Although it is Carnival’s largest ship, it never seemed overcrowded even though many of the venues (ie. comedy clubs, bars, restaurants) were relatively small. I am assuming that was due to ...

Covid precautions

Review for Carnival Mardi Gras to Caribbean - Western

My main priority was covid precautions in place and management of precautions by cruise line. Carnival failed in this regard. Policies are only as good as the paper there written on if not enforced. carnival staff only paid lip service to any covid precautions to cruisers. Cons: Unmasked cruisers in public tight spaces. Announcement made during shows about mask policy but no enforcement by ...

Carnival knows how to cut corners

Carnival knows how to cut a corner!! We sailed Mardi Gras out of Port Canaveral August 21, 2021. The fourth sailing for this ship. We were about 70% full with 4,200 pax we were told. The ship maximum is said to be 6,500 pax. There are some things to like about this new ship but it clearly is not as “innovative” as the marketing would suggest in our view. Yes, the roller coaster is the ...

Diamond cruisers who loved the Mardi Gras cabin

We are well experienced cruisers who love cruising & have done 114 cruises, 68 on Carnival. We did a back to back on the Mardi Gras. The ship is very large. Our extended balcony cabin was at the very forward of the ship. We would not recommend cabins in this location. While the balcony was larger, with a wind shield to easily open your balcony door, the base was metal, not glass, so you had to ...

Great food and service.. room not so good,

The Mardi Gras is totally different from any other Carnival ship. Instead of one deck with shops, casinos, etc the Mardi Gras has 3, decks 6,7,8. All laid out well with a ton of restaurants along with a Tour Time Dining restaurant the Flamingo, and the traditional assigned seating restaurant the Palms. We opted for the first seating although we only ate there two nights. There were so many ...
