This ship is pretty and because it is new, does not have the usual wear and tear. The dining choices are good (but you basically have to spend extra $ to get a decent dinner). Guys Pig has a good bbq lunch that is free. The bad: Havana: We paid significantly more for havana rooms in order to avoid crowds at the pool. But the Havana pool was actually more crowded. It was loud, packed and had no chairs. Not worth it. New elavators: Big swing and a miss here. They SUCK. They take longer, confuse the elderly. The screens used to select floors work poorly. Carnival needs to ditch this system. Beds: the “king” bed is two smaller beds pushed together. But the mattresses push apart, leaving a canton in the middle of the bed. Dining: The main dining room anytime system sucks. You have to check in on a screen far away from the dining room. It is chaos. Long lines, too crowded. Gym: the gym is WAY too small for a ship this size. Read Less

We decided to try a Carnival cruise out of Galveston and picked a back to back 14 day itinerary that included a few ports we hadn't been to before. I knew not to expect too much from a Carnival cruise and as a result I wasn't disappointed. Embarkation was the best experience we've ever had in all our years of cruising. No waiting at all. Upon arrival at the cruise port around 12:30 pm we dropped off our bags, cleared security, had our ship card photo taken and then proceeded to walk onto the ship. It had been almost a year since our last Carnival cruise and there were some slight changes noted that have likely been done to cut costs. No longer do they offer the tasting bar where you could sample foods. All of the shows in the main lounge are either performed by the Playlist cast or an audience show (Hasbro and LipSync). They don't bring other entertainers on to provide a variety of entertainment. Fortunately they still have the Comedy Club which we quite enjoyed. We ate at the Steakhouse one night and were very disappointed with the quality of the food although we did enjoy the chocolate surprise dessert. Holland America charges the same price to eat dinner at their Pinnacle Grill restaurant and the quality and dining experience is so much better. Carnival's steakhouse is definitely overpriced. The food in the main dining room was moderately good and we were very fortunate to have an awesome dining crew. Food on the lido deck tends to cater to an American diet - lots of deep fried food. And after a week or so, became very boring and repetitious. Guys burgers are good to try once, but we asked for a plain bun otherwise they slather butter on the buns and grease them up on the grill which makes for a very greasy burger! I couldn't help but notice most of the people gulping down the burgers and fries probably shouldn't be eating that food!!! Our cabin stewards did a good job cleaning our cabin. The bed was terrible - I think they need new mattresses. The TV in the room was a very small, old flat screen TV with snowy reception and a poor remote. We requested bath robes which were nice. There was a lot of noise outside our cabin most nights as people tended to stay up late and party, and didn't seem to realize how noisy they were as they shouted to each other in the hallways. On sea days we liked relaxing on the Serenity deck where it tended to be quieter and we could read our books. We enjoyed renting bikes in Key West. We were very disappointed with the cruise port in Freeport where it was next to impossible to rent a taxi. Instead they only seemed to allow mini van taxis to the port and if you wanted to go somewhere they would not leave until the mini van was full. And getting back to the cruise port was uncertain. In the end we gave up and went back to the ship. In Nassau we went on a long walk over to the Atlantis resort area. The day we were in Roatan, Honduras it poured heavy rain most of the day. We did hire a taxi over to West Beach and when we got back to the port we walked around Mahogany Bay which was quite nice. We did a shore excursion in Belize City to the Mayan ruins which was fun. And another shore excursion in Cozumel where we went on a catamaran snorkeling and to a private beach. You definitely get what you pay for on a cruise ship and I think it will be awhile before I go on another Carnival cruise. I'd rather pay a little more and enjoy better food, a better cabin and more variety in entertainment. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the destinations. We flew into Tampa. I highly recommend using Carnival's shuttle service. It's reasonable and drops you off right at the port. Tampa's port was easy to get through in a reasonable amount of time. We sailed on the Paradise. It was supposed to sail to Cozumel and the Cayman Islands. However, our itinerary was changed. We sailed Costa Maya instead of the Cayman Islands. Cozumel was fun! I highly recommend visiting Tulum (The Mayan Ruins) or the Salsa, Salsa excursion in Cozumel. The comedians were great! Shows were good for entire family. The food was average. I didn't care for the buffets because they offered a lot of the fried foods. Main dining food was pretty good, service was a little slow. Costa Maya was a big disappointment. I don't recommend staying in port unless you have a planned excursion. The business owners and the insects were extremely annoying! Carnival offered everyone on our cruise a $25 on board Credit because they changed the itinerary. It wasn't worth the headache! I always do research when planning a cruise. I was disappointed with the condition of the Paradise. We stayed on Level 6 where the Upper Deck elevator area smelled moldy, water was leaking from ceiling and they had fans in hallways the entire cruise. One of the main elevators in lobby area wasn't operable the entire cruise. One set of sliding doors to the buffet was inoperable for a day. Was awaken by a very loud noise one night, not sure what it was. The Serenity area (private area for 21+) was very small and crowded. My husband and I have sailed on several Carnival ships. I am not a fan of the Paradise! If you are looking for a reasonable cruise with good service, food and entertainment, look into cruising on Carnival Sensation or Sunshine. Read Less

We've just returned from our 6 day cruise on the Conquest. If I could, I would have given it a 2.5 out of 5. We chose my time dining, which we really liked the flexibility of. We liked going when we were ready, and not forced to a fixed schedule. We never had to wait for a table for the 4 of us. That was the good. The bad was the spotty service we had. The only great service we had was the ONE night we were served by O'Dane Trevor. We asked for him every night thereafter, but were told his section was full. And then we had very poor service. Long waits, appetizers arriving before cocktails, soup & appetizer arriving both at same time for same person, wait staff having language barriers, and seemingly overwhelmed. Granted, the ship was at maximum capacity of 3,730 guests but we are used to much better service in the DR on previous cruises. I should mention this was our 3rd Carnival cruise, and we've done 2 NCL and 1 RC in the past. Service in the Renoir DR was the worst we've had in all our cruises. We dined once in the steakhouse, which was exceptional. It's an extra cost, which we had contemplated but SO GLAD we did it. Worth every penny. But, why should you have to pay extra to have that sort of service? We chose this cruise based on availability for our daughter's spring break. Loads of college spring breakers on this cruise. It seemed Carnival is more geared to young people, which is also why we like Carnival for our kids. But we weren't expecting such a party-fest. Embarkation took the longest of all the cruises we've been on. The "select your boarding time" was new for us, and clearly we chose the same time as 75% of the other cruisers. We finally got aboard the ship at around 1pm and were told the cabins would not be ready until after 1:30. We were able to get to ours around 2pm and our bags came awhile later (around 3:30). During that time, we were able to have lunch and explore the ship. Suggestion: be sure you pack shorts or swimsuit in your carry-on, as we were walking around in denim and long sleeves. We had 2 cabins on deck 6, and both were what we expected. Our room steward Nia was excellent. She took good care of our cabins and was always pleasant. We stopped in Ocho Rios Jamaica, Amber Cove DR, and Grand Turk. Ocho Rios was a short visit (arrived at 7:30 and departed at 1:30). Did not allow much time to do much. Especially if you did not want to pay for lunch ashore. We stayed in close proximity and paid US$12 per chair from Margaritaville. Otherwise, you can sit on the sand. Even after paying for chairs, they're expecting you to order drinks and/or food. Small beach was nice though. Amber Cove was fun, and we enjoyed the beautiful swimming pool area. Note: this stop does NOT have any beach access. So if you want beach, you'll have to go somewhere to put your toes in the sand! Shade was scarce, and umbrellas were a rip-off at US$20 each. Again, a rather short stop since we were only arriving at mid-day. Staying until 7:30pm, but not many people would be staying pool-side beyond dinner time. Not much else to do here unless you do an excursion. So another short time to visit the island. Last stop was Grand Turk, which we were really looking forward to. We had booked a poolside cabana. But alas the day was a complete wash-out with pouring rain the entire day. You can't predict the weather though! We were glad to have the cabana, so we could stay dry, but wished we could have cancelled it as it was not worth the money to sit inside a cabana shivering. Debarkation was kind of slow as there were many cruises coming back at the same time. We were awakened at 6:45am to Chloe the cruise director's loud announcement that they were about to start calling decks for debarkation. It was still dark outside!! Although we had been previously told we only had to vacate the cabins by 8:30. We had planned to have a nice breakfast before doing that, but with the constant announcements, we really felt the urgency to GET OFF the ship. But then they stopped people from getting off due to congestion at port customs. We waited around until we were finally called to debark. So it was hurry up and wait. Out of the 6 cruises we've done, this was our least favorite. DR service not great. Buffet food was not great. Again, the least favorite of our cruise experiences. And there are only so many tacos and Guy's burgers one person can eat. The "chocolate-fest" is a joke when compared to the one you have on NCL. The chocolate buffet is just some extra desserts at the lido buffet. Our kids did not even bother to go. I think we won't be hurrying back on another cruise for awhile, and when we do, it likely will not be on Carnival. Read Less

Well first the pros: Embarkation and Disembarkation was excellent. We were on and off the ship with little delay. The use of technology to move people was amazing. The stateroom was clean and the staff excellent. We loved the variety of live music around the various venues. The comedy club was especially a great venue for both show type, PG and adult. Fluffy the club manager was excellent. The Cruise Director, Matt was a instant star during the whole trip. Obviously well chosen for his energy. Speciality restaurants were excellent especially the Suzi restaurant. Well worth the extra money. Now the cons: Line ups and wait times for everything was horrible. Just too many people looking to do the same activities and eat at the same time. Food in the restaurants was average in quality. One major complaint. If you are going to serve cold soups then keep them cold. In general I felt I was being retailed to death and frankly the costs of drinks and retail items were very expensive. Read Less

Went on the Vista to see the new ship and came away disappointed. Embarkation in Miami was horrible taking two and one half hours. Everything seemed to run late including the safety drill, leaving ports, and some of the entertainment. My time dining was run very poorly, first you have to go upstairs to the checkin desk, then back down to the restaurant and wait 15 minutes more, and the service was the worst on any cruise we have been on, in fact we stopped going to the dining room and went to the marketplace instead. So many people came to dinner with shorts, tank tops, and baseball hats, even on formal night that it took away from the atmosphere, if they are going to have dress rules they should enforce them. The cruise director, Matt, was fantastic and the military appreciation event was very special. The ship is beautiful but there seemed to be a lot of trash left unattended and they did not clean the tables in the marketplace very quickly. The theater is laid out with moveable chairs so there was no really good seats and it is rather small for such a large ship. The ship has most of the amenities as those on the Breeze, which we loved, but because it is a larger ship the venues are inadequate to take care of the increased number of passengers, so we faced long lines wherever we went. Our stateroom attendant was great but much of the other service was poor to average at best. The ship is beautiful with great amenities so if the service gets better in may be a great ship. Read Less

The first three days of the cruise was bad due to the weather not the captain. I was in the room on those days. They need to put fridges in the rooms because some people have medicines that need to be in the fridge. They also need to put the menu on the television so that people know what is being serve for that night. Some people don't like fish food and fried food, Speaking of fried food that was all that was on the lido deck for lunch and diner. They also need to give the schedule for the next day for tours or entertainments the night before so that people could book their excursion tours or know what to plan for the next day. When we went on our tour in Aruba it was three in a half hours long which was fine, but when we got back to go shopping the stores were all close and no one got to shop in Aruba. The smoking areas for people were close due to bad weather, so I do think that they need to give one side of the lido deck open to smokers, not only for the adults but for teenagers too because the teenagers can not go into the casinos. Otherwise the trip was soso. Very disappointed. Also when we got off the ship and got a porter he broke my luggage and did not report it. I like Carnival cruise line but not this ship. Will not go on it again. Read Less

I need to use a scooter (which was to be delivered to my room) to get around the ship. I reserved a wheelchair to get from the port to my room (which I thought!!). Well, they took me to the lobby which was on the 3rd deck. My room was on the 8th deck. I had to walk to get to my room (which I was not happy about). I asked if we could take the wheelchair to our room and then return it, and was told "NO". When I saw the pools, I was shocked. They were very small for the amount of people on board and there were not enough chairs to accomodate us. Our first port was to be Half Moon Cay (which we were to be tendered). We get there, see the tenders waiting for us and then were informed that we couldn't go due to the swells in the seas. So we had to stay onboard on Monday. Activities were not as I thought they would keep us busy. Tuesday was an at sea day. Wednesday we were at Grand Turk. We were informed that we would not be going to Amber Cove either as the dock was underwater. We would be going to Nassau on Friday. This was a very disappointing cruise. Now to debarkation - I called for a wheelchair to take me from the room down to the port. I was told "go to deck 3 - aft". Well we walked there and were told we were on the wrong side of the ship, so we had to get to deck 3 - forward. Again, I had to walk. By this time, I was in so much pain that I had to take a pain pill,. I would NOT recommend this ship to anyone!!! Read Less

We chose this date to be part of the USA inaugural sailing of the Vista. Unfortunately there was nothing special about the ship or activities. Our stateroom was exactly like every other stateroom on Carnival's ships-- very basic. The entire ship had no bling or pizzazz. The atrium was plain. The theater is the worst of any cruise ship we have been on. There are rows of chairs set up in between each permanent row. The shows themselves were dull; only 2 of the 11 shows had full musical production. We resorted to the excellent Punchliners Comedy Club whenever we could get in. We met many other frequent cruisers, as we are. Everyone we met was disappointed, and some had booked 2 years earlier for the chance to be passengers on a new ship. We were very limited in the cabin selection as we booked in July and so only 2 cabins were left to choose from. On a positive note, the food and service were excellent. The specialty restaurants were awesome. There is an iMax theater is on board. Sorry there was not more excitement offered. Read Less

We are seasoned Carnival Platinum VIP's. We recently cruised on the Carnival Vista. Overall it was good. We found the poor ratings of main dinning were not true. We had the late seating. The service was fine and the food was great.. The food on buffet were not so good and there was no variety. Waiting line for dinning and show were not supervised and there were a few alteration among the passengers. The main show and comedy seat was a disaster. They use the Liquid Lounge for main shows and use chairs instead of stadium style seating. Passengers would move chairs and make it impossible to see. Many seats were blocked by passengers moving chairs and could not be used. The comedy show waiting line was worst. Sometimes waiting for over half hour and not getting in. Again many loose chairs not usable do to passengers blocking them. They increased the number of guest and only allowed 21 people in pool at a time. Read Less

Choose this cruise because of the port s because we have never been to any of them, Being usually a Royal Caribbean cruiser I wanted to try something different. Flew from Indiana into Lauderdale and stayed the night at Ramada Oakland Park because of the great price. The transportation to the hotel was $10 but because they could not find us we were left to hail a cab there that cost us $40!! So much for the great room price! Hotel was clean and the outdoor pool and bar was beautiful. The next day they waived the $10 fee to the port because of the screw up. Had a boarding time of 11am and arrived about 12:30. Thank God we did because the line outside was tremendous! We were escorted to the front of the line which still was long and took forever, This was the worse embarkation I have ever experienced!! First was half moon cay which the ship had to skip because of the swells. That was disappointing, Our room was a balcony on Lido deck 9281, LOVED it! So close to everything and never heard any noise at all. Was so easy to go get breakfast and take it to the room to enjoy on the balcony. Our room steward was top notch and always kept our ice bucket full. I purchased the unlimited soda card but shouldnt have. They will not give you a can of soda! Only a cup with straw and ice. Next time I will know to carry on soda. I was told they are not allowed to. The room was clean and neat and well taken care of. My disappointment was in both ports Amber Cove and Grand Turk. The huge Carnival stores at each port were so fake to the island..It was like a giant outdoor mall and ruined the natural beauty of the islands. I imagine any natives there had to pay Carnival a hefty price to sell their wares there and that turned me off.I wont be back. Luckily at Grand Turk we reserved the poolside cabana for 4 of us . It was so hot out it was great to get away in the airconditioning and also have a phone to order drinks and food. We got the cabana closest to the beach so we could enjoy snorkeling. Snorkeled up near the ship and saw quite a bit of sea life. really enjoyed that. At Amber Cove again was the giant concrete mall like amusement park built by Carnival. Cannot wait to go back to St Martin or St Thomas and see a real island! We took the Coconut Cove beach break and enjoyed it. The ride there was long but got to see the real country even though it was so poor, at least it was real!! The surf was quite rough but the hurricane had just passed through so I imagine thats why. The guys working there were wonderful. Saw them interact with a group of girls taking them snorkeling and were so accomodating to everyone. Hda a few cocktails at the outside bar and all in all had fun. Food on the ship was ok. Typical ship food except Guys burgers was great. Im not a big burger person but it was so much better than any of the other offerings we ate them a LOT! I must say the entertainment shows were terrible! I could not believe it. The Motown show first of all had not one black singer and everyone was off key, Kind of like a grammer school choir singing motown ..we left. Tried the rock and roll show and I thought Prince was turning over in his grave the way they were ruining his misic..again we left. Maybe we are used to Royals shows and this is how Carnivals is?? I dont know. The band in the Atrium every night was OUTSTANDING! They should have been the show. We spent many nights there before and after dinner. Wish I could remember their name . Thats about it. We will not visit those islands again and am looking now to return to St Martin or St Thomas for some good snorkeling Read Less

We allowed our travel agent to choose the cruise following guidelines we had given her. I am handicapped and on Oxygen so we had many special needs and the staff met those quite well. The ship (mostly the cabins) are very tired. We took a Carnival 11 years ago and the carpet and décor in the cabins are the same now as then just that much more worn. The area I was most disappointed with was the dining. There were no specialty restaurants aboard, and the dining room is only open for lunch if we were not in port. The dinner menu's were very uninspired, meatloaf one night, brisket another. Quite disappointing. I will say when I commented to our waiter about this. He apparently told the dining room supervisor who presented me with chocolate dipped strawberries the following evening. We did order the "off the menu" steaks (extra) which were excellent and one night chateaubriand was on the regular menu. I asked about lamb chops and they said "oh no you had to take a 6 night cruise for lamb" ( ours was only a 5 night). Now for the good parts, the staff was absolutely the best. The main areas were beautiful, Art Deco in style, and very comfortable. They had violinists in the main atrium every night, the piano bar was great, excellent photographers (I always take horrible pictures and they actually did a great job and we bought them all BIG BUCKS but worth it.) The food on the Lido deck was always quite tasty, and because I'm on a scooter there were always people willing to assist me. Will we travel on this ship again, probably not, but would not hesitate to recommend it knowing these limitations. Read Less

We were in cabin 2242 which was an extended ocean view room with "2 bathrooms" 1 is the standard cruise ship bathroom with small shower. The second has a 3/4 size tub with shower and sink. Standing room in there is enough to turn around only but the tub room shower is more spacious than the standard one. Our family only used the tub room to shower due to the increased room in the shower area. The attendant Jono was amazing best attendant I have had in the 7 cruises I have taken. Very nice and accommodating. Ship was better than any other Carnival ship I have been on for appearance. ( Holiday, Liberty and Sunshine) The people on the ship were so helpful and friendly. Entertainment and activities were hit and miss when you have 2 teenagers because a lot of the activities say 18+ so there were times we were in the cabin watching a pay per view movie. There is a lanai on the 5th floor on both sides of the ship that is a hidden gem with loungers that are always 50-70% empty with a direct view of the water and you can read or just relax very peaceful from the 10th pool deck. The food is simply horrible and I am not a food type. The selection at the buffet is very limited with a lot of salad like food and limited main course options. The dining room has the standard Carnival regular stuff with a few other options. Honestly my first cruise in 1997 on the Holiday was so far beyond the Dream for food and dining choices and options and quality. I saw people beside us at the Scarlet dining room ordering multiple entrees and picking through everything to come up with their meal.. NO JOKE. I would be embarrassed myself but this is what it has come to I guess. Read Less

We choose to cruise as this was one that was available departing from New York. We enjoyed the cruise to Bahamas visiting Grand Turk, half Moon Cay and Nassau. The staff work very hard and no bad experiences with them. The serenity area was lovely and we spent most of time here as it is adult area only given that on this trip there were a lot if children, it was nice area to go to. The entertainment was really good we enjoyed the shows in liquid and limelight lounges . The performances in the shows were of. a very high standard so too were the comedians you could tell that a lot if effort was put into the entertainment . My only critic is the dining room sometimes long wait for a table and had to queue for dining time then had to go two floors down to dining area. The dining room menu was hit and miss a lot of fish food which we are not fond off and standard of food not always very good, food sometimes received not very hot and often had to wait a while for food to arrive. My suggestion is that Carnival could look to improve the dining room experience . Read Less

This was a 4-day cruise with Cozumel as the port. Little background information....This is my 6th cruise and we are in our 30s & 40s... I know not many cruises compared to some of you awesome cruisers! I am going to give a pro/con lists and excursion pro/con.... Hope you find this helpful. This is of course my opinion.... PROS: Embarkation. We had a boarding pass time of 1-3, but came early and was able to get on board. We were on board by 11:45. They were organized and friendly! The entertainment on board was awesome. Loved the 80's show and rock show. They did an awesome job. The shows sure have become short over the years--35 minutes. I remember when they were an hr+ but sometimes it is nice to be able to do other activities....You don't need to get there super early as many folks wait until the last minute to join. Newlywed show was funny like always. They did it different on this cruise but still good. Hasbro show also worth watching. Our room was always clean and bigger than expected. OV room. No couch though? Shower bigger than RCL. Dining room staff very pleasant and willing to please. Pool entertainment was fun like always. The cheesy contests are a must with cruising and the dancing. CONS: FOOD- It was very much hit or miss. I couldn't believe the SMALL hot buffet. At first I was like where is the rest of the buffet. LOL I looked around ....The food was either good or terrible. Nothing was excellent. The homemade pizza was good and we were thankful they had that on board. Our go to food. How sad. LOL The desserts looked good on the buffet but tasted awful. Other people were complaining about the food....The Deli was different and good. The formal dining room food was good or bad. It's funny how the best food was on the last day. Crab cake was delicious and tomato/mozzarella salad. I am use to the room steward greeting you and introducing himself on day 1. NOPE. He called!! Seriously. That was a first. Day 2 I see two room stewards on their phones and I asked if he was our steward and introduced myself. LOL Pools were OLD and above the ground. Had a yucky feel. That salt water was insane. Although, if you are a kid at heart you will love the slide (cross arms/legs & raise your back...you WILL go fast!) I know it came from the ocean but you'd swear they took galloons of salt and dumped it in... Hit and miss again on friendly staff. Missed staff at the beginning of the lido deck restaurants greeting and all. I enjoyed my drinks but my friend didn't. The WOK was yuck! If you have done Mongolian grill before then you will be disappointed. Who has only rice noodles and such a limited selection. The disembarkation was crazy. What happened to first come first serve if you are taking your luggage off??? We were on deck 4 and the last ones. Now, if the shipped took our luggage off it would of been 10:40 am before we would even leave to head to customs. Crazy. Customs took 30 minutes so not too bad. Excursion....We signed up for the ATV and Amazing Secret River excursion. The ATV was a blast. Be prepared to be covered from head to toe in sand and dirt!!! Now, we were aggravated they ran out of single rider ATVs when we signed up for those! My friend had to take the intermediate ATV (double) since I have never rode one before....No guys would let her use the smaller/single riders. UGH. It was fun though. Secret River was awesome. You will be in a wet suit, lifejacket, helmet, and have a walking stick... Very cool experience. The pictures with blue vibrant water was just that an edited picture!! LOL Our guide was very knowledgeable. We felt safe. The ferry ride to Playa del Carmen was about 35-40 minutes and then you board a van for the ATV. After ATV you board another van for the secret river. We waited 45 minutes on the ferry to go home before we ever left That was crazy! Read Less

Hope the food will be better next time I travel on the breeze. I travel on carnival freedom, and had a great time, the food was great, washroom stay open 24 hours, breakfast was serve a 6:00 am, travel carnival freedom 2015, carnival breeze 2016. overall, I enjoy myself, a great get away form Houston, TX to other places in the islands, seem so far away from everything. I like going on these cruises for vacation, I probably will be going more often in the near future, and I will continued to cruise the carnival ships for awhile. hope I will have the funpoints for next year on the carnival breeze, and have more fun next year Read Less

I've sailed on the Sensation twice, the Valor, the Glory, and the Pride. I've also sailed with Princess, Celebrity, and Norwegian. I must say that while a cruise vacation is still one of my favorite ways to unwind, this one had its share of disappointments. Embarkation was terrible, with a two hour line that filled the port building and wound around the outside. The food lines were long, the food in the Cezanne Restaurant was marginal. The times of availability of food was limited. In the Monet Restaurant the wait staff was spread far too thin. How far things have fallen since the days of seven courses and white table cloths, and piano. The production shows have and orchestra have been eliminated. The ports were fine, though the window in San Juan was quite small. The cabins are well kept. The staff is generally friendly. I might sail with Carnival again but will look twice at the competition before I book. It's been a long but steady decline over the years. Read Less

We chose this cruise for its itinerary. Embarkation was really bad. Fortunately we have Platinum status, so unlike most passengers, were able to sit indoors during the 3 hour delay boarding. Many people waited for hours outdoors in the heat. It would have been helpful if they would of kept the passengers informed on what was going. I never learned about the cause of the delay. Food: loved the new additions of Guy's Burgers! Also, the Blue Iguana Cantina was really good. I had breakfast burritos for breakfast everyday. The buffet was average. The desserts at the buffet were disappointing. The Tandoor Indian buffet for lunch was very good as was the pizzeria. We skipped the pay restaurants because based on the menus they didn't seem to worth the up charge. The Northern Lights restaurant (main dining room for My Time dining) was very disappointing. The service was very slow and the food was cold. We ate there only twice due to the first two experiences. Bars/lounges: The bar staff at the Alchemy Bar were very friendly and entertaining, even when they were slammed. Stvatava made me a custom cocktail which was delicious. The Red Frog Pub was fun. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. We didn't drink a whole lot so can't really rate the other venues. But speaking of alcohol, we were unpleasantly surprised to learn on the last night that alcohol bought on board would not be delivered to our cabins. We had to pick it up at 6am the morning of disembarkation. Had I known that I would never had purchased any. When we asked why they were doing this, we were told that when alcohol is delivered on the last night passengers were drinking it. Seriously? Even if that was true, how much money would they have lost. It definitely was a major inconvenience. Our cabin steward was always very friendly and did a great job of keeping our cabin tidy. My husband and I sailed Carnival Fantasy last year and had a wonderful time. We chose to depart from Charleston as it is only about 4 hours away. When we got to the dock, we had to wait for almost an hour until we could get our car into the parking area. Then we waited another 20 minutes for a shuttle to take us to the ship's check in. We learned that there was a 45 minute delay because there were three weddings. I don't know why that would hold us up from getting on board. After we got inside, we were in line for another half hour to go through the final steps of getting our boarding passes. The staff was wonderful and could not have been better. The food choices on the other hand were not so great. We were squished together at a table set up for 11 people and the waiters had to squeeze behind us to get to the table next to ours. The ships entertainment was the same two shows that we saw last year and the performers were not of the same caliber as last year's. The lead female singer screeched through her version of "I'm stepping out" and the male singers were just average. There didn't seem to be as much to do on this trip as there was on our last cruise. I did not like the fact that we had to walk through the smoking areas to get to our dining room. I don't smoke and I don't like to smell like it. Everything about the cruise seemed to be out of sync. Shows and events did not start on time. All in all I was disappointed that we did not have the same great experience that we had last year. Read Less

Arrived in Charleston and was advised by security to drop off our luggage and come back out of the port to park for an hour. Upon re-entry we were told because we had Faster to the fun, we had priority boarding and should proceed to lane 1. We paid $119 for parking for the week. We sat for about an hour in line after paying. The people in charge then released all of lane 1 - priority boarders to park. That was pretty cool! We parked in the garage, walked to the bus, wait for about 10 minutes before boarding and being taken to the port. Once entering the port, we told the person at the door we had priority boarding and they sent us to a check-in with 1 person in line. We went straight to our cabin M2 and dropped of our backpack and went straight to lunch. [CON] The bathroom floor was squishy with an odd smell. The floor was covered with the same blue covering that was in the shower. It was odd. [PRO] Our cabin was clean. I pulled back the sheets and checked the mattress for bedbugs and clean sheets. All appeared acceptable. We walked straight to lunch. Of course Italian was the theme, always is on embarkation day. [CON] Disappointing there was nothing new. Old ship, old menu. The pasta was rigatoni noodles and they were not fully cooked and difficult to eat. Salad bar was hum drum. Plain iceburg lettuce. Was hopeful for mixed greens or a spinach option as I cannot eat lettuce. They removed the larger cups and replaced them with a very small cup that required frequent refills throughout the meal. [PRO] The sauce on the rigatoni noodles was really tasty. The grilled chicken was out of the world and a bowl of veggies with no lettuce was just fine for me. I went to the gift shop and bought a giant cup and held 3 of the cups from the lido buffet, no need to continue refilling! The was our first cruise on the Ecstasy. We walked around the ship. She was almost identical to the Fantasy, which we really enjoyed. I preferred the decoration on the Ecstasy better than the Fantasy. [CON] We proceeded to walk down the Promenade deck and could not. Walking past Pixels, toward the Casino, was a SMOKE CLOUD and horrible smell. There was a wedding reception in one of the clubs and the wedding party clearly had a lot of smokers. This was EXTREMELY frustrating. Because most pictures on Elegant night are on the Promenade, we could not visit many of the scenes. I love the candy shop; we coud not go because I couldn't hold my breath long enough to get there. I wanted to visit the $10 store, coffee shop, shopping desk, Comedy Shows, dance clubs, the cool rolls royce/vintage motorcycle and rebooking desk and couldn't because of the smoke. I understand there are smokers that need a place to smoke. But to allow smoking on the hallway where many activities take place is ridiculous. [PRO] The weather was beautiful most days. We spent most time outdoors on the Serenity Deck, playing putt putt, over looking the pool, funshops and blue safire lounge. Saved a fortune by not being able to visit the rebooking desk, coffee shop, candy store and casino! We went back to our room and received a knock on the door. [CON] Our stateroom host, xxxxxxxx said [and i quote], "My name is xxxxxxxx, I am your stateroom host. So I am clear and there is no misunderstanding, I work in the morning and night and you must choose if you want me to service your stateroom in the morning OR night; we do not do both." I was a little miffed at his introduction. I reviewed the sheet and said, "OK. So, there is no option for both morning AND night. I have to choose 1 or the other, correct?" He just said, "Yes." I reviewed the sheet he was holding for me to complete. I said, "Morning. We will need extra towels and ice please." He handed me his card and said, "ok." We NEVER received the ice from him. I always went and got it myself. We NEVER received extra towels from him. I called him once during his break and asked for the previously requested towels. I stopped him in the hall other days to get extra towels. We had the opportunity to speak with him. He was always the first steward on the hall working and the steward on the hall working. He worked 2 shifts; but between him and his helper, they had to clean 37 rooms. He was always discombobulated and running behind. He had 1 month left on his contract and was clearly ready for a break. [PRO] We always had clean towels regardless of how frustrating it was to get them. I needed the exercise anyway; so walking to get ice, where irritating; but beneficial! Pixels photographers are everywhere! We had the opportunity to speak with one of the photographers; Ivica from Macedonia. He loved his job! He loved making people smile. He always did a great job taking our photos and we bought a few. [CON] The Pixels pictures are expensive! $22.99 for an 8x10 - Yikes. It would seem they could cut costs by displaying pictures digital instead of printing every single one. I suppose with people wanting things instantly, if they can touch it, they can take it now and are willing to pay the price. [PRO] I love pictures. I love the convenience of walking to dinner and stopping to have a family portrait made. Every background has a different photographer with their own ideas on how to pose. They print all pictures so you can buy one or buy none. Dining room - Wind Song was our assigned dining room. When we first booked, we requested a table for 2. At that time, they did not have anything available. Not a problem, we went ahead and were seated with 4 other nice couples the first night. When we got back to our stateroom, we received a note from the Matre'D Persad. He was able to accommodate our request and our table had been moved to 370. Our Head Waiter is Vigor and his team. They were phenomenal! They were friendly and encouraged us to try everything new and so we did. [CON] The 6pm dinner always seemed rushed. The menu was a bit boring. Steaks were blah. Not bad, just nothing to write home about. I hate to be served 1 piece of bread. I prefer to have a small basket of bread on my table. I understand they are cutting down on waste; so use a smaller basket. [PRO] I always enjoyed the 'Didja' part of the menu and took advantage every night. The cold soups were different and yummy. Mango was my favorite. Dining room - Wind Star was where we had brunch. If you haven't had brunch, you should. [CON] It is much SLOWER service from tired and not so friendly servers. They put a much too large basket of bread/pastries on your table to start your brunch. They are trying to cut back, they should get a smaller basket for this so so much doesn't go to waste. [PRO] The menu is 2 sided and you can order whatever you want from either side. The food is better than the junk at the Lido deck buffet. The first brunch, I tried raisin brand crusted french toast. It was surprisingly good! They are stinggy with the syrup; so order 2 when you place your order. I also tried blueberry pancakes, omelet, crispy bacon - and it was perfectly cooked, and the best cheddar grits I have had in a very long time. Mongolian Grill - My very favorite place to eat on the Fantasty! I could not wait to try it on the Ecstasy. [CON] They replaced my favorite snow peas with green beans. [huge thumbs down]. The food was incredibly salty. In fact, I asked my husband to try it thinking it was just me. He too agreed it was disgusting. In fact, it had no flavor except salt. [PRO] I saw other people eating it, so the food didn't go to waste. Lido Deck - Pool area/Entertainment. [CON] The mainstage area does not have constant entertainment. What irritates me is they do not start playing music until at least lunch time. Most people, myself included are out enjoying the salty air by at least 9am and expected to hear something other than elevator music before lunch time. The entertainment was actually terrible. They had the traditional hairy chest contest that turned into a dance competition and the hairiest guy didn't win. They had mixology contest, ice carving, Groove for St Jude, short dance party, corn hole competition. Nothing that made me want to tell anyone they must cruise on the Ecstasy because the entertainment and music is awesome. [PRO] They sometimes had a guy playing steel drum and he was incredible. When they played music, it was a good variety for everyone of every age. Events around the ship. [CON] From the shopping presentation, Bingo, Love and Marriage, Guess that tune, towel folding, comedy shows, the Brits, Balloon Animal guy, fun shop sales; there is nothing else, nothing fresh and new. If you have done this once, twice, three times is just blah...... [PRO] Cruise Director Benjamin Lambert and his assistant Adrian do a good job trying to get people involved. Benjamin also played music on the Empress Deck stage by the bar and he is really good. The Love and Marriage show is HILARIOUS. Kudos to the passengers that volunteered for that. Oh My.... My stomach hurt from laughing so hard. The 'Name that 80's tune' was a lot of fun. Benjamin is funny and quick witted. He made it a lot of fun by getting people involved and participating. VIFP / Birthday Celebrations: Actually a nice gesture, Carnival sent my husband and I both a liter bottle of water for being repeat customers. That was helpful since the 2 cases of water I preordered were almost not enough. For our birthdays, carnival gave us a non-transferable gift card. [CON] My husband got a $50 gift card for the spa and I got a gift card for a free 6x9 photo at Pixels. GREAT. He went for a massage only afterwards to be charged $98. When I looked at his receipt, they deducted the gift card and charged an 'automatic gratuity' of $20 for the therapist. What the hell is an 'automatic gratuity'. This makes me IRATE! If you are automatically charging me a fee, it is NOT a gratuity! A gratuity is something that you earn after performing a task AND is at my discretion. [SIDE NOTE: Later in the evening, while in the Saphire Lounge, we heard at least 8 other couples complaining of this same issue as they too experienced this with the "free gift card". [PRO] My Pixels gift card was truly a gift. I got my 6x9 picture free, no questions asked! Amber Cove - The port is beautiful. The area the ship had to dock is very narry. We watched the captain navigate, backing the ship to the dock. Very Impressive. The port has a pool that is free to use. There are additional features that cost a small fee; ZipLine, kayaking, canoeing, etc. We took the excursion - Discover the taste and traditions [I think]. We boarded bus #1. The driver was Orlando and Tour Guide was Juan. Juan was incredibly knowledgable and entertaining. We visited the city, a gift shop, a church, a mock plantation, a mock Brugal Rum factory and had a traditional Dominican Republic lunch. [CON] For the amount of time we spent standing in Central Park watching a parade, we could have visited shops or the beach. We did visit one shop. The Power went out while we were shopping. They had a few people on the street trying to sell us their goods and would not take no for an answer. My husband had to step up for a lady and tell the man she said NO for him to go away. 1 US Dollar equals $45 Pesos in Dominican Republic. [PRO] The Brugal Rum is very smooth. The Coconut Pineapple and Mango/Peach came home with me. The Dominican lunch was a stew with local veggies, broth, chicken and rice. The Dominican Coffee is unbelievably good and I don't even drink coffee. The organic Dominican chocolate was delicious. I would have liked to spend a little more time at the plantation. We had a dance contest with the local dancing girls and that was fun! The fresh fruit is gorgeous and delicious. I love fruit and seeing the ladies walk down the street with fruit baskets on their heads was cool. Grand Turk - This port used to be my favorite. If we ever return, we will take an excursion. [CON] The outside excursion vendors were like vultures on the beach. They argued with each other, tried to take customers from other vendors. The chairs are free to use; they would set up their umbrellas between chairs and when unknowing passengers would sit, they would pounce telling them they owed $20 for the use of the umbrella. The port belongs to Carnival and they should do a better job at controlling this. This is not acceptable and should not happen. [PRO] If you visit the other side of the pier, behind the astronaut display, the beach is quiet, no vendors. The beach is natural and not well maintained; so swimming with small kids would not be advised. It is rocky and has lots of conch shells. Half Moon Cay - [CON] This was my second cruise to Half Moon Cay and the second time my visit was cancelled due to the weather. [PRO] A day on the boat is better than a day at work. Alcohol - [CON] This was a nightmare! Previously, the night before the last morning, carnival would deliver your alcohol to your stateroom. This is no longer the process. On the morning of debarkation, all 400 people who purchased alcohol stand in line. They have 2 lines. The line on the left with the ships 2 slowest workers will help all people who are picking up confiscated items and alcohol purchased off the ship. The line on the right with the ships 3 fastest workers will help all people who are picking up liquor purchased in the funshops. If you purchased liquor in the funshops and off the ship, you must standin the line on the left. The letter told us to be in line at 6:30. We were in line at 6:10 and were about 50th in line. The process took us about an hour! It was absolutely ridiculous. Most people in line, from the grumblings were just as upset as I was. [PRO] I am a fast learner and will NOT purchase alcohol again while on a carnival cruise; not on or off the ship. The PRO is, They have saved me money! Disembarkation - Disembarkation was exceptionally fast. No hiccups, issues or [CON] Our vacation was over. [PRO] Faster to the fun allowed us to disembark with the platinum and diamond class people first. NO long lines or waiting. It was awesome! Read Less

We have been on several cruises with Carnival and I must admit that sometimes bigger is not better as this ship is the largest so far. This is the first time we did not get a suite and we sure missed it. We had originally booked a group that had connecting balconies but everyone ended up dropping out before the cruise, but my husband and I wanted to go as we had not been to the ports on this itinerary before. We stayed in balcony room 6507 on the back of the ship and even though the view was nice as you got to see the whole ocean it did not make up for all the noise from the LimeLight Lounge that was 1deck down below us. The bed literally shook at night from the music blaring below they must not have any insulation on the ceiling of that club to buffer the noise. The food was so-so at the buffets and at the dinning room . I don't know why the food quality and food selection has gone down so much but who wants to eat the same selection thing for a week, but the best place to eat is the Steak House and Italian restaurants that cost extra but well worth the money to get a good meal. Even though they say you can not save seats people were out at 6 and 7am putting towels on all the chairs every where even the Serenity deck so it was impossible to find any place to lay out unless it was on my own balcony. I also think this ship needs a good cleaning and maintenance top to bottom as most dinning room chairs were badly stained and our balcony had several rust places that didn't happen overnight nor was the floor ever cleaned out there. The staff is over worked and can not service all the people on board. I will say that Mike the cruise director was one of the best I have ever seen !! The ports were great but the ship not so much ! I started cruising in the 80's and the service is nothing like it used to be. It seems every year they take away something else. This year they no longer put chocolates on the pillows at night and they don't put tablecloths on the main dining room table with the exception of formal nights. The dining used to be considered 5 star dining, but in my eyes it is not. I am a VIPF member which gives you benefits and one of the benefits is to be first on the ship. But on the Breeze the embarkation was absolutely horrible. There were 3 groups of people that got to board first. My husband had 3 bad meals out of 8. DON'T GET THE FRIED CHICKEN AS THE OVER COOK IT!!! This was a complaint of several passengers that we talked to. My husbands filet was nothing but gristle and he could not eat it. On another night we had the chicken Milanese and his looked totally different than mine along with being orange inside. Our waiter took our cabin number 3 times, but nothing was ever done about the bad meals. The Maitre D never came to our table. Isn't this his job? Another benefit of being a VIPF member is that you get a free drink, but you must use it in the dining room for brunch/lunch. It took the server over 35 minutes to bring us our free drink. IF WE WERE PAYING FOR THE DRINK IT WOULD HAVE NEVER TAKEN 35 MINUTES! They have cut back so much on the staff that the service is not what it used to be. Maybe it's time to stick to my all inclusive resorts! Read Less

My wife and I won a "free cruise" when we bought into a time share a couple of years ago. TAV was the name of the service that administered the "free cruise," which of course was limited in dates and ships. Carnival Ecstasy was one of the ships and this (leaving Jan. 18) was one of the dates. By the time we paid the fees to TAV associated with the cruise, we came up about $20 each short of what we would have actually paid to go on the cruise ... so it wasn't free :) But ... we decided to make the best of it. We have cruised five previous times on Royal Caribbean and had great experiences. We knew this was an older Carnival ship (second oldest) and read many reviews on Cruise Critic (that were very helpful). We left our children at home, and flew down on Sunday thanks to frequent flier miles. We got a free shuttle from the airport to our motel (Courtyard by Marriott) and paid 10 apiece for a shuttle to the ship on Monday morning. We got to the port around 11:30 and got right into the waiting area, where we chatted up other travelers. It should be noted when we left Minnesota on Sunday it was 15 below zero ... so temps in the 70s meant we had a 90 degree difference. All good so far! We stayed in the lowest tier of room, but only used the stateroom to sleep. It was about what we expected, maybe a little dirtier than it should have been, but quieter than expected. The casino is open air so the ship is smoky. I guess we knew that coming in, but it's a complaint of people who don't smoke. The food was just fine ... hey, much better than we eat at home. We sat at a table with four other couples who were great dinner companions (I hope we were as well). The shows were entertaining, good singing and dancing. My wife liked the Mongolian Barbecue on the pool deck. We also used the workout room a lot. Service was very good in the dining areas and by the cabin steward. No complaints there. We didn't take part in too many shipboard activities. Obviously, it's a smaller ship, so there is a lot less to do on board, but we expected that to be the case. Key West was a nice stop, a little cool. We rented bikes and tooled around town and bought the only thing we forgot to bring -- sunglasses. We had to be back on ship by 3, so spent the afternoon being lazy. Cozumel was Day 2 ... we got right off the ship when it docked at noon and rented, on a whim, a scooter for 50 bucks. We spent the day beach-hopping around the island, and ended up driving on a complete circle around the island (40 miles). A little hairy in town, but I drove like a maniac and figured people would get out of my way! Day 3 was a day at sea, the weather was cloudy and cool. We just tried to relax and work out and graze the buffet lines. Check out in the morning was really nice. We had an early flight, so walked off the ship with our luggage and got to the airport by 9 a.m. for an 11:30 flight. In summary -- the cruise was exactly what we expected. We did something I bet some people don't do -- we didn't spend one red penny on board ship. How about that? Having said that -- we would have spent money to buy a CD of all the pictures that were taken of us. That wasn't offered. And we didn't love the pictures that much to buy them for 20 bucks each. I guess some Carnival ships do offer CDs of all the pictures. Some other people have commented that generally people were rude. I would say one thing about that -- the $50 "all you can drink a day" feature was used by a lot of people, and I think if you throw down 12 drinks a day "just to get your money's worth" you are going to be more rude than usual. Plus, there were very few families on this cruise (given it was during the school year), so mostly people who were there to party (but most of them were older, so yeah). Almost any cruise is a good cruise, and I would say this was a good one. However, and I hope this is the spot to say this ... given the choice between Carnival on a similar itinerary or Royal Caribbean, I would pay more for Royal. To me, the dealbreakers are that Carnival has too smoky of a casino area (and the area around it gets smoky) and the people traveling on it are a little too edgier. Hope that doesn't offend anyone.
