We chose this cruise because it was our anniversary and it was going to Bermuda. We have been to Bermuda twice before and loved it. We had friends going with us who had never been there. We were supposed to go to Princess Cay first then Bermuda. We were supposed to spend a day and a half in Bermuda. Because Princess Cay sustained damage due to the hurricane, we were sent to Nassau. For some reason it too longer to get to Bermuda from Nassau than it would have from Princess Cay. Our time in Bermuda was cut short by a third. We didn't arrive in Bermuda till after noon and by the time we docked and approved by customs, it was well after one oclock before we could go ashore. We took the ferry to Hamilton arrived about 3:30. We wanted to take a bus to St. George, which would take about 45 minutes. The last ferry from St. George to the Dock Yard was 4:30pm. Most of the shops and sites close about 5:30/6:00pm. The next day we had to be back on the ship by 11:30am. Not time to really see the island. Very disappointed about the change in schedule and no reimbursement from Carnival. Princess Cay is in the Bahamas as is Nassau and according to the map a little lower. I don't understand why it took longer to get from Nassau to Bermuda than it would have from Princess Cay to Bermuda. Our friends were also extremely disappointed. The entertainment on the ship was great and the ship had the best cruise director we've ever had a cruise. I must say the food was so much better than what we had on the Esctacy in June. Desserts were wonderful, Wait staff very friendly and called us by name. Cabin was fine, plenty of closet space, Carnival is not very stringent on hand washing as other ships such as Norwegian. The buffet dining room needs some reconfiguration. The hanging lights don't line up with the tables. A lot of people bumping their heads including us. I gave the overall rating a poor because the main reason we went on this cruise was to go with our friends to see Bermuda. Read Less

Apparently the main objective of Carnivals transformation of the Triumph into the Sunrise was to increase their revenue and the customer be damned. While some welcome amenities were added, more of the focus of the renovation was apparently devoted to additional cabins than to passenger amenities. Cabin: The ocean suite was quite spacious and clean. Air conditioning within the suite seemed a bit lacking, even on the coldest setting temps rarely dropped below 76 degrees. We had an issue where the toilet would repeatedly flush itself for minutes at a time after use. A metal railing securing the bottom of the shower door kept falling off. Overall we were not happy with this cabin. Dining: Forget about the Lido Marketplace as it is unbelievably crowded compared to any other ship I have been on. We only tried it for breakfast on our first 2 days. Buffet lines greater than 30 minutes were the norm. On day 1, we were unable to find a table, so we took our food back to our room. On day 2, we found a table, but were interrupted by dripping condensate from the ceiling falling on our heads and food, gross. Needless to say we didn't return there for the remainder of the trip. On a better note, Cucina De Capitano was great, and Fahrenheit 555 was fabulous. We alternated between those for dinner for most of the trip. Special Mention to Guy's Burger Joint and Pig and Anchor as well. The deli had lots of nice options and was fairly quick as well. Embarkation: We had Priority boarding and all went very quickly. Activities: My son seemed to enjoy many of the on board activities, My wife and I were like meh. Entertainment: One of the few bright spots on this ship. Fun shows and a fantastic cruise director in Chris "The Flying Scotsman". Fitness and Recreation: Meh. Onboard Experience: This ship feels very crowded most likely due to the reasons stated in the first paragraph. The pools were almost always filled to capacity. There was hardly a lounge chair to be had on sea days. While I am a smoker, I can usually sympathize with the complaints others have made regarding the casino. However, on 2 occasions on this trip, I was in the smoking section on the Panorama deck when non smokers complained about the smoke. I basically pointed at the sign on the wall and told them to pound sand, but it illustrates the level of crowding if non-smokers are willing to aggressively attempt to shame the smokers out of the smoking areas to snag an open lounger. Public Rooms: Public restrooms were non-existent or simply difficult to find which led to a long trek back to the cabin if you suddenly had to go in the middle of dinner. In addition, air conditioning was weak in many public areas (with the notable exception of the casino). Service: The young ladies who were serving me drinks on the Panorama deck (AnnaMarie and Rochelle) were absolutely amazing, and I went out of my way to tip them personally. Staff of Fahrenheit 555, Deli, and Cucina Del Capitano were equally amazing. Cabin steward was meh. Shore Excursions: We didn't use any as were are familiar with Bermuda and can easily get around on our own. Value for the Money: As a cruiser who routinely purchases suite level accommodations, this ship is not even close to being worth the price. While the staff and crew are wonderful, as is typical of all of my past cruises with Carnival, even their hard work cannot remove the tarnish from this Old Girl's reputation. This is the first time I felt cheated with a cruise. For the money I paid I expected a lot better then what I got. Bottom Line: If you are considering booking this ship, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. If you are reading this and you have already booked, you have my sympathy. We sailed the Horizon last year and the experience was vastly superior to this. Their newer ships are way better. But they only seem to bring them to NY for a limited engagement then sail them off to Florida or the Caribbean, never to return. I live on Long Island, and as such I like to sail out of New York. For my money, if Royal Caribbean can routinely run Oasis of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas, and NCL can run Encore, Escape, and Joy out of NY, why can't Carnival offer us a first class ship? Instead they offer us these retreads, and based on this experience, I would have to assume the experience would be similar on other Carnival ships they tend to run out of New York I.E. Sunshine, Radiance. Carnival truly needs to step up their game in the NY market. Unfortunately, I will no longer be sailing Carnival in the future as a result of this experience. Read Less

Do not book a cruise on Sunrise!! The positives: The Flying Scotsman; family memories, Java Blue coffee shop, debarkation, free laundry (pay machine was broken) Negatives: Smell of sewage throughout ship Cabin bathrooms smell of urine Cabin 6365 is below casino, constant smell of cigarettes (lung cancer anyone?) LOUD - doors bang shut - Passengers - most of them were rude, for example: things I heard in the hallway (mid ship 6th floor): a parent telling a young child they are "retarded," toddlers left unattended, people encouraging friend to vomit in hallway (he succeeded), smell of marijuana Scantily clad passengers who left nothing to your imagination. Breakfast in dining room WAS FANTASTIC!!!!! Dinner in dining room - AWFUL (ending up just eating dessert every night) At 2 am, a group was outside our door talking loudly. My husband asked them NICELY if they could keep it down, to which they replied "f you, we will f you up!" Read Less

Refurbished- added passenger capacity for several hundred more passengers. Ship could not physically accommodate the increased number of people. Lines at buffet were 30 minutes long. Swimming was impossible-pools were so crowded you only had room to stand. Insufficient number of crew, who were poorly trained and unmotivated. In the dining room- 2 steps past our table a man vomits explosively a HUGE amount of vomit all over the rug, splattering the bottoms of chairs and tables. None of the dining room staff did anything to address this. The women at the adjacent booth were gagging and holding their napkins to their faces. Kept telling the servers there was a problem, but they were rushing around serving dinners. As people walked by, the only reason they didn’t walk through a pool of vomit is because my husband and I physically stopped them. No one tried to block off the area or relocate the other diners. We refused to sit in that section for the remainder of the cruise because the area should have been properly cleaned by shampooing the rug. The next morning I am sitting on our balcony -I am drenched with gallons of dirty water from two decks above from balcony cleaning. Apparently we were supposed to be notified that the balconies would be cleaned that morning, but our steward never gave us the flyer. Poor ship hygiene, overcrowding, non-existent customer service. Food was average. Entertainment was poor because the size of the theatre had been reduced by 2/3 to make more cabins. There were no production shows. Ports were lovely but shore excursions were way overpriced. You could use the Bermuda ferry or bus to get everywhere for $5 a trip. Activities were very basic- mostly endless trivia and bingo. I actually won this cruise on the Today Show. Was so excited, but let down afterwards!!! The ship was so crowded, the pools are extremely small, Buffet lines are ridiculous, the ship is chopped up and hard to navigate to all the venues. You have to walk through a Smokey Casino to get to most Venues. The Entertainment was mediocre at best. What topped it off was my IPAD being stolen from my cabin and they won't reimburse me. I've sent them several emails and they say they can't find it. It was definitely stolen!! I never used it because the wifi was so bad!! I had left it in my carry-on and never checked my bag again until I got home. I will never cruise Carnival again!! The Positives: My Stateroom was spacious, bathroom was a nice size. The food was OK but not enough places to eat during the day like other cruise lines. Such a Disappointment!!!!!!! Read Less

There were pails of vomit in hallways and I could not even bring myself to eat. so much time and money was wasted. We were told that we couldn't go outside on deck and they still wanted to people to pay for bingo. Anyway not for me. This was the second time my family cruised with Carnival and they enjoyed the first cruise so much. The shore excursion that was booked through Carnival was also upsetting, we had to wait 45 minutes for a pre ordered van to take us to beach and it was only supposed to be my group then they let more people squeeze into van, also lost about 11/2 hour of beach time, very disappointing. Another Cruise Ship was docked there too many people at 1 time. Read Less

My husband and I sailed on Sunrise from NYC to Bermuda. This was our second cruise, with the first being about 15 years ago, also on Carnival. Overall, we had a wonderful vacation, but that was most certainly in spite of Carnival and not because of them. The Good: Our room (7593) was beautiful. It was a balcony room on the 7th deck, had a very comfortable bed and sitting area, and an updated bathroom. We had no issues or complaints whatsoever with our room. Guy's Burger Joint was SO flipping good. Eat here for all of your meals (no really, see below). The brick oven pizza and ice cream 24/7 were also quite good and the pastry chef is top notch--don't skip dessert! The embarkation process was ridiculously easy, straightforward and well done. We got our bags delivered within about an hour, and had immediate access to our room (we arrived on time for our 12:30pm embarkation time). The Serenity deck was lovely. Very comfortable and quiet area; you truly felt like you were away from it all. The downside was that we had rough seas and high winds for both of our days at sea, so we had a really small window to enjoy it. This is obviously not Carnival's fault, but was still a bummer. The fitness area is also great; I got in a good workout on the ship and appreciated having access to the equipment. The Bad: The crew had inconsistent and contradictory communication throughout our time there. Paperwork says---be at your muster station by 3pm. Cruise director announces--don't go to your muster station until I tell you to (which is well after 3pm). The morning of debarkation, the cruise director announces that we should stay in our rooms until our deck is called. We do so, and housekeeping knocks on our door; each time we say we're here waiting for our deck to be called, they apologize and say they'll let someone know. After the third time, I ask the person why they keep knocking if we're supposed to wait in our rooms until our deck is called. They say that we need to be out of our rooms by 8:30am (it's 8:28am and they've been knocking since 8am). I ask how would we have known that? He says it was on our paperwork from last night, and I say we never received it. At that point, we decide that we're not waiting anymore and we get up and leave/make our way off the boat. We're on our cruise to celebrate our anniversary, and our steward (Slam) leaves us a $50 spa gift card. It expires the next day, so we call the Spa immediately to see if they can fit my husband in for a massage. They do so, and when he goes to settle up, he provides them with the gift card. They tell him that they can't accept it, that it's only good for certain treatments and that they have already discounted his service. We contact the Spa Manager, and after a bit of back and forth they take off the amount of the gift card. We booked a shore excursion and when we got to Bermuda we headed out for a leisurely morning until the time of our excursion (12pm). We decided to stop back at our room and it's a good thing we did; the Carnival staff slipped a piece of paper under our door after we left that morning to let us know that our excursion had been cancelled due to weather. The weather was lovely that day, so there's really no way we would have known unless we stopped by our room. Again, really poor communication. The food on the boat is gross. We tried the Deli, the main dining room, the Italian place and the buffet. The buffet is basically the same food as the main dining room, and it was really bland and of poor quality. Also, there are dirty cups and plates all over, and I wish that Carnival had a space where you could drop that stuff off versus everyone just leaving stuff on the table--gross. The service from dining room staff and the steward was basically nonexistent. No one was very friendly or helpful, and that was a shame. One night, my husband burned his hand on pizza that fell back due to a boat movement. Trying to get an ice pack for it became a comedy of errors. We went to the Medical Center our deck 0, and were sent away with plastic bags and told to go to the bar to get ice. Thankfully, another Carnival staff member saw us looking frustrated and took us up to the bar and got the ice for us. That was wonderful and much appreciated, but it shouldn't have been so difficult to get a little help. One night at dinner, several other people on the boat shared that they were experiencing sewage back ups in their rooms. Thankfully, we had none of that, but that's just nasty and not acceptable. Additionally, my husband wasn't aware of the history of the Surnise (as the Triumph), and when we got on the boat he said to me that he kept smelling an odd odor, like poop. Sure enough, even with a $200 million face lift, you can't fix some things. We loved Bermuda, and were able to find a great snorkeling spot on our own via public transport (i.e. skip the waste of money on an excursion!). We loved our room. We loved the time at sea. But, we were constantly frustrated and disappointed by the Carnival team and would not return to that cruise line. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the 3 consecutive days in port in Bermuda, (Didn't happen) We received an email right before we sailed (after full payment had been made) that we would be going out to sea one night verses being in port the whole time. After that they shorten our time in port 2 more times, after so many itinerary changes it left us with very little time to explore. We were never given an explanation to why all the changes. We were very disappointed in Carnival. If we had been informed of this PRIOR to final payment we would not have taken this cruise. Now on a positive note, our room steward Ibara was fantastic! Our dining crew (late) Carlos, and guys were great! Another note, I wish there were other activities on sea days, trivia is ok but it would be nice to have other options. Bermuda (what we saw of it) is a beautiful place and we hope to go there again someday but it won't be with Carnival. Read Less

This was my first and Last cruise with Carnival. My wife and I booked a 4 day cruise with Carnival Horizon from NYC to Bermuda. The check in process took a very long time. Once we finally got to our cabin, I noticed how tiny it was....only one single bed and a couch (in which my wife had to sleep on). The buffet area was always very crowded, many passengers were rude trying to cut in line bumping into us. The food at the buffet was very limited on any given day. On most days there were a couple pasta dishes, a seafood dish, and only once they had boneless chicken (which I had to wait a few minutes for it to be refilled). There was a lot of available seating, but still tough to find a free table at times. Also, the floor area in the buffet area was EXTREMELY slippery and dangerous! The Lido Deck was also a terrible mess. Hundreds of people, and two overcrowded bars including the Red Frog and Blue Iguanna where it took my wife over 15 min just to get a drink. There were way too many passengers and not enough staff at the Lido Deck bars to handle the massive crowds of people. There were two small swimming pools, yet about 4,000 people on our cruise ship so do the math. It was basically impossible to find available seating near the pools and very little room to even take a dip in the pools filled with mostly kids splashing around. Later during our cruise, we found out there was another adult pool near the Havanna Bar on Deck 5, but only open for a couple of hours after 7PM. How much sense does that make?? Now a few positives, aside from the Buffet Staff and Lido Deck Bar staff, the other workers were very friendly. We loved our housekeeper who did an amazing job keeping everything very clean for us. The Dining Room staff, especially the waiters were also amazing! They had a great system in which you grab a reservation ticket on Deck 5 first, then you proceed to the Dining Room on either Deck 3 or 4 and present your ticket for a free 3 Course meal. I will really miss that food and great hospitality. Also, the Comedy Shows were hilarious and a lot of fun. However, make sure you arrive at least 30 min early if you want a seat. There was also some good nightly entertainment including free movies under the stars on the Lido Deck, 80's music event, accoustic guitar performances at the Atrium Bar, Live Latin Music at Havanna Bar, and my favorite was the country music duo band at Guys Pig Anchor Bar (which didn't attract too many people though). They also had karaoke one night next to Internet Cafe, but the wait time to sing was 1 hour and 15 min. They allowed several people to sing twice, without giving newbies a chance. Very poor organization. When we arrived at Bermuda, surprisingly there were no announcements. We only realized it was ok to to exit the boat once we realized how quiet the boat was. At first it took a while to get a public transit bus to take us to Horseshoe Bay Beach, which was gorgeous but extremely packed! We managed to enjoy a few hours at the beach. We also walked around Hamilton, but really nothing worth seeing there. Once we got back to nyc, departing the boat was a nightmare. It took us two hours to get off the boat and go through customs. Lines and more lines while carrying our luggage. Never again! Overall, it was not worth the money we spent to be on an overcrowded boat without being able to do some things because they pack 4,000 people on a boat and not enough staff. No more cruises for me! I have been a long time cruiser on Carnival and many other cruise ships. I have always enjoyed myself on each of the cruises booked.I have always found trips relaxing and a great value This time I CANNOT say that I had a satisfying time. The Horizon was overcrowded to the point of being very uncomfortable. The Lido and Serenity decks pools and hot tubs were ridiculously crowded and one was not functioning properly. The highlight of the ship, the sky ride, was not operating at all.The Food on the lunch buffet was not appetizing at all. After awhile, i found myself just walking away because lines were way too long. The pizza was the only option that was reasonable in wait time depending on the time of day. The shows did not live up to my expectations of Carnival's entertainment. I am fully aware that this is a vacation business but Carnival used to have a way of making vacationers feel that their satisfying experience was the first priority. They used to have an art of presentong food in an awesome way. However now they have no problem presenting upcharges ,overpriced excursions and overcrowded facilities. On a positive note our servers in the Meridian Restaurant were outstanding and our cabin was kept clean by hard working staff who earn every penny. When I called after disembarking they said SORRY.Well I am sorry... My Family and friends will be looking to other cruise lines for future bookings. Read Less

It started when they couldn't control the crowd lining up to get on the ship. People were annoyed they were in line for 2 hours so they started just throwing their luggage into any open bin and walking on to the next huge line. Once you finished line 2 you were permitted to enter the boat. All of the elevators were being used to bring luggage up to rooms, but there were no signs posted to let you know that. After waiting 2 hours in line you had to walk up (6 decks in my case). Once you get to your room you notice there is no electricity!. Fortunately I saw on a blog that I had to stick my sign and sail card (room key) in a slot near the door and leave it in the slot or you didn't get any power. The rooms are clean and very nice. They leave you cards to fill out with your room service breakfast requests. There is only one problem... They do not put any pens or pencils in the rooms. If you are looking for an ice bucket for the one liter of wine that the website states you can bring per person, you are out of luck. No wine buckets no ice but don't worry cause they confiscate your wine and dump it out anyway. They do leave you a lovely note in your suitcase letting you know that they trashed it. Apparently they changed their policy but forgot to tell anyone. There were no shows onboard except for explicit comedy shows. Probably a good thing though considering the boat was packed with over 5,000 people and about 1300 crew members so everyone was on top of each other and lines to even be able to eat were outrageous. There are 4 beautiful pools but good luck getting in any of them. The food was just ok. Nothing special. But if you wanted special you could get it for an additional charge! Unlimited soda was also not unlimited. You had to have a 5 minute wait between beverages and my husband was not permitted to get himself and me a beverage at the same time. Problem was there was no where to sit so when we found a seat anywhere I would guard the seats and he would get the drinks, or should I say drink? We had to share. The staff was amazing and polite and helpful and they always seemed happy. (Perhaps they were drinking all the confiscated wine?) I will be going to an all inclusive resort next time. Oh one more note. We had pictures taken and for only $1,999.99 We could have taken 30 of them home! Not kidding that was the price for an album with 30 pictures! Read Less

Upon embarkation and going into the cabin, my son found a huge smashed cockroach on one of the magazines in the room. Housekeeping was notified. Guest Services were overwhelmed. They never, ever answered the phone, no matter the time of day. The phone kept on ringing, no pickup by anyone. Excessively long lines and waits of over half an hour to speak to someone at Guest Services. Ditto the bizarre elevator system, the use of which was not explained, leaving disabled people, children, non English speakers, and those adults not technologically savvy standing in front of elevator cars for excessive time periods just to get on, and then the car doesn’t stop on their floor! Food was mediocre at breakfast, the same thing all four days of the cruise. Lunch slightly better. Dinner was at least the highlight of the day. Kids all over the place, yelling and screaming and clogging up the pool, not to mention excessively long waits at the water slides. The bicycle around the ship was out of commission for the whole cruise. We were four adults and four children. The movie theatre cost us $88 just to see Jurassic Park. The candy shop is a rip off. The popcorn machine was out of commission, so we went into the candy store onboard. Four small sandwich size bags of gummy bears came to $46!!l On the outside they’d probably be about $10 total. My son accidentally left a medical device on board, and instead of trying to assist us in getting it at NYC, they put it in lost and found onboard and sent it to their facility in Miami to be shipped to us, in NYC, within 30 days!!! The Carnival agent, in Miami, didn't seem to be making an effort to Contact Carnival in NYC to put the medical device aside so we could pick it up in NYC. Read Less

My 2 sisters and I decided to take my mom on a cruise. We decide to get a nice suite. Not only was there no wheel chair elevators for disabled people, but the lines for the Buffet was insane! The line to get onto the boat took over 35 minutes due to rude people not allowing a disabled lady in a wheel chair go first. Then the 10th floor buffet was gross! Lines that took way over 45 minutes. Also to get to the buffet the floors around the pools were so slick and wet we couldn't chance one of us pushing my mother to fall! Someone is seriously going to get injured. As to the restaurants thankfully they were delicious. Liked the steak house very much. The one thing I had was a great time laughing. ONLY THING. Way too crowed. 5000 people on one ship. UM no. And to have no wheel chair elevator is not smart! And they don't just have where you push the floor you want to be on. Nope. They make you wait and advise when that elevator will be ready. Again by this time rude ignorant people jump in front of my mother in a wheelchair. Lastly being on a floor with a suite, we had our own bar and pool. Loved that. BUT.....the pool was only for us till 7pm. Then it was open to the entire boat. I didn't spend thousands of dollars for rude ignorant people to be allowed on our floor's pool! Oh and best part? There was a bachelor party on this floor. LOUD, RUDE, AND didn't want to go back to the suite pool as all the guys were drunk the entire time. Shocked no one kicked them back to their suite. Would I go back? Nope. disembarked 5/28/2018 in NY 1st the positives, our balcony stateroom was clean & stewart kept it clean thoughout our cruise, the food was good and wait staff were good, The temperature on the majority of the boat was extremely hot my 8 year old (special needs) and I were sick from the temperature on the boat,(not sea sick very calm seas) we had to move our table for dinner 3 times, our stateroom was hot, stuffy and humid our cloths were damp in the closet from the humidity. Trying to sleep we were dripping with sweat. complained to guest services (that don't answer the phone) on deck 3 you must wait on long lines every time. finally 3 days later a lady was sent up to take a temperature reading of 75 degrees, I was told "she would tell someone" that was it never heard back from them. the movie theatre was dirty and gross. Camp ocean for kids seemed like a great idea however they have no way to contact you, Oh wait they do they can give you a cell phone (they won't tell you that) while at guest services trying to get a wine opener for 3 days they told us to ask camp ocean for a cell phone, I went back to camp ocean and asked for a cell phone they refused to give me one. The water park is great in theory, an employee stands on the top entrance and send people down the slide that employee cannot see the exit of the tubes and relies on another employee who always seemed to be busy talking to a 3rd employee who was on break. very slow process. The arcade was ok (small) it was about 90 degrees inside. The dodgeball, volleyball and basketball tournaments are only for 18+, non for younger kids, all of the attractions are under staffed very long waits sometimes well over an hour. On many occasions a large party travel the elevators together and you must travel/wait for the same elevator ( no other option) so you must wait for a second elevator but only after the 1st elevator already left your deck. We walked to every location on the boat the wait for an elevator was to long. This was a cruise I was very disappointed with. I will keep it short. I have 37 cruises under my belt, 7 with Carnival, and each year, the quality seems to be going down hill, This cruise was clearly better than NCL and RCL. The Bad The elevators took for "Ever" to come. The technology is really bad that they are using. Carnival should have looked in to queuing theory before they ordered the worst technology known in the 20th century. Queuing Theory has been around for 70 years and they do not use it. The crew, knew nothing. Giving wrong directions, wrong floors etc. They would send you to the other end of the ship, wrong floor, make you very late for a show, The shows, this is where they have cut costs. They are unprofessional, and the theaters are so small, can not fit anywhere half of the 3,900 passengers that are on the ship. Get there very early, or you will not get a seat! The Ship is Dirty, things are missing, holes are everywhere. This should not be the case for a New Ship. The drink plan, you have to wait 10 min between drinks, but the staff does not show up for a long time. So, plan on not being able to get drunk on the drink plan. Your bill will not be correct. Expect double charges on your credit card. Split charges from shops. And holds on your credit card, for which you can not find what the charges are from. CHECK YOUR BILL!!! before you leave the ship!!!! Drinks are not consistent, Some drinks have too little spirit, some are too sweet and some will get you drunk on 1 drink. The décor is clearly on a low budget. Not what I would expect compared to the older ships. Very plane, not the elaborate décor of Carnival ships that I have taken in the past. And clearly not the technology that RCL has implemented. Carnival should take note of the adult activities that RCL offers. ie FlowRider, IFly etc. The activity lines were long, and very slow The comedy was very poor. The comics did not have depth of material. Very amateurish, and their background that they stated was not true. The entrainment was clearly a D-. But get there early, or you will not get a seat. I mean when doors open. The seating is a big miss on this ship. How can they make such a big mistake!!! The Tea, WHY CAN THEY NOT BREW THE TEA? and make it drinkable? Shore Excursions, Just say NO. The Good The food actually was the best compared to RCL,NCL, and Princess. I was presently surprised, and the service was good, for the low passenger to crew ratio. Carnival has really cut back. The server staff was very overworked. The key is to get there very early, so the food is fresh. Make sure you get a burger, taco and pizza on the ship. The best I have ever had on a ship. The BBQ place, well it is over smoked, and I really like heavy smoked food, under seasoned and too lean. The bacon macaroni was notable, and I don't like Mac and cheese and the first time great, the other times, the cheese was granular. Really no complaints about the Cabin. Again, the cabin staff was very over worked, due to short staff. I was surprised, that the curtains and other fixtures showed worn-out with just a new ship. The attendant was very good, about the best I have seen from any ship in the last few years. The cruise director was great on the Cruise. All in all, Carnival has a lot of work to do to live up to their past level of quality. Compared to RCL, NCL and Princess, it was a better experience. But Carnival really badly designed this ship. I prefer the older ships in the fleet, as long as they did not refurbish them to a lower standard then they were. Be prepared to be squeezed for every dollar you have. And if it seems to good to be true, it is not true, even if you are on vacation Read Less

My sister and I sailed on the Pride in Dec 2015 to determine if this ship would be right for a 50th wedding anniversary celebration. We were impressed with leaving from Baltimore and with the service on board. This cruise was disappointing. Service standards seem to have fallen. There was little or no communication between service departments and between supervisors and workers. A private party we had planned at great expense was coordinated badly. Especially disappointing was the failure of the photographer to show up even tho' we had ordered those services ahead of time and had checked with the Photography department on board the day of the party. The food all over the ship was of the quality of a Golden Buffet. David's steakhouse was waaaay overpriced. The steaks were tough and not flavorful. We had organized a party of 32 people, many of whom had never cruised before. We were embarrassed that we chose Carnival Pride for our group. Read Less

I have only gone on one cruise prior to my trip on Carnival Sunshine. This was my first time traveling with Carnival and I can truthfully say, very likely to be my last. I am not a difficult person to please and when I read some of the reviews on this site, I thought we would be just fine because we had realistic expectations of the cruise. Unfortunately, this cruise did not meet my expectations. The Good: I was very pleased with our housekeeper. He kept our room clean, was quick to clean it, knew our names, was friendly, was thoughtful and all that I could ask for in a housekeeper. He was the best service we received on our cruise. The room itself was also very nice and larger then I am used to on a cruise. We booked an oceanview room and the size was far better then are our last cruise where we had an interior room. I loved that this room had lots of drawers to put things, my luggage fit under the bed, and there was an end table on both sides of the bed. I loved Bermuda. It was awesome and a great port to stop at. I also really enjoyed sailing out of NY and enjoyed the view leaving NY. The Carnival Hub app is awesome and well worth the $5 to communicate with other people traveling with you on the boat. The Bad: Now, Carnival is known for being an affordable cruiseline. That being said, I did not think our trip was cheap, so I did have certain expectations. We did pay $1000 per person when all was said and done with the room, gratuities, and drink package for only 4 days so this was not a steal in price by any means. Most service on the boat was very slow, especially the drinks. When we finally did get drinks, they were sometimes wrong. I was disappointed by the lack of variety in the shows. When I traveled with Norwegian I was blown away by the entertainment. With this cruise, the only entertainment seemed to be comedy shows. I get that for one night, but I wasn't impressed that this was the entertainment on all four nights. There were a few other things going on like a game show etc, but now shows like acrobats or magicians or anything like I had seen with Norwegian. As I mentioned I got the drink package and I completely understand why you can't order two alcohol drinks at the same time. What I don't understand is why I couldn't order non alcoholic drinks with an alcoholic drinks. So I couldn't order a bottle of water and milkshake at the same time or a margarita and a bottled water at the same time for example. And because service was slow, this became frustrating to wait in line and then not be able to get two things at once. It made me really question why I got the drink package because I felt like I ended up wasting so much time in line, whereas people who were buying as they went could purchase two things at one time. We purchased the internet package and shouldn't have. It was so slow you could barely use it. I did talk to Carnival and they refunded my money on that, which I appreciated. Cleanliness really surprised me. Although I didn't necessarily feel like things were dirty, I felt there was not enough emphasis on it. I didn't see people sanitizing and cleaning the way I did when I took a trip with Norwegian. Noise. This trip was filled with kids in the hot tubs and running around. I generally am not a person who cares about this, but I do think it's worth noting as it would bother other people. The only time it upset me was when people were being rude in the middle of the night screaming or drunkenly yelling in the hallways. The So-So: The food was not bad, but it was not great either. There were plenty of options for me and one night I did have a really awesome prime rib, but overall I would say pretty average and what I expected from a cruiseline. This met my expectations because I had realistic expectations of the food. You're not going to get an unforgettable meal, but definitely lots of options and you won't go hungry by any means. we have been on many carnival crusies in the past and enjoyed with little problems. this on started with problems once on the ship. The app almost never worked, and need the app for almost everything to keep track of spending to entertainment Without the app it was hard to know what activities and pools were included in price., request from housekeeping took forever. Getting off ship they ruined my luggage. The food was hit or miss. Some nights at dinner the food was good other times too overcooked. The shore excursion to bermuda which was the aquiriam and snorkle was disapointing. not the best snorkling place or zoo. There was always a line at coustomer service due to everyone having so many problems The muster drill did not make anyone feel safe. The areas were so badly packed with people you could not even get to your assigned sation.. An up note, the entertainment was great and engaging. Good job Emma and entertainment staff. Read Less

Recommend people sign up for designated time. anytime dining is like a mase that is difficult to get through. Service was lousy and food was not what we ordered. But I will definitely cruise the sunshine again. Overall we had a great time. Free drinks in the casino, cookies in the room, Free bottle of wine, and we won another cruise. You can't beat those odds. Our Cabin Steward was fantastic, and the help from guest services was terrific. Smoking areas were the best we have ever seen, as many people would agree. Loved the three levels of Serinety, as well as the late movies. Great cruise except for anytime dining, buffett was ok, but a lot of cold fish. Guys was fantastic as was the omlet bar for breakfast. As a former restaurant mgr., I can assure you the hot foods were not hot. Read Less

I'm sure the decor of the boat fits someone's taste but not mine. From the first step on the boat, I found the atmosphere and decor to be very old fashioned and stuffy. The weather and sea were rough, there were so many people who got sick. I know thats not Carnival's fault but the way they handled it was disappointing, they charged me for the medicine for sea sickness which was ridiculous to me. The dining room service was the worst I've ever experienced on a carnival cruise. No apology, no explanation. To give you an idea of what I mean, one morning at,brunch, we ordered eggs, pancakes, sausage and grits. The eggs, pancakes and sausage came but no grits. When ssked, they said, oh they're coming. The grits arrived just as we were finishing breakfast. The next night, our order didn't get taken for about 30 minute . It even went down hill from there. Not what we were used to. Bermuda offered no to little activity or excitement. The bestt thing about the trip was some of the entertainment. Both comedians were mediocre, wit one being extremely vulgar. Oh, the cabin was FREEZING, they gave us the thinnest blanket I've ever seen and couldn't fix the heat. I coughed and snifflEd the whole trip. To summarize, the trip was disappointing. Read Less

Carnival is reaching new lows each yr. Hard to book em any more, but we wanted to see Bermuda. The Food was a severe dissapointment. Service just as bad. We expect freshly cooked food in Dining Room, but this was not the case. Entre's were all overcooked, dried out and obviously had been sitting under warming lamps for long times. Ordered a snapper entre that looked like dried out leather-rubbery. All meats are well done plus.. Lido buffet has long lines, dirty tables not bussed, and food that sits out way too long. Had a B-day and my wife ordered a whole chocolate cake to be delivered. Tried to cut into it and the entire icing layer peeled off like it was made of thin rubbery plastic. Awful .. Anytime dining means getting a beeper and sitting down 25 min later. Then having the staff rush your meal to turn the tables. They serve 2 dishes at once to each of us, even though we had no room at the small table for 2. Server puts dirty fork and knife on tablecloth instead of replacing or at least on the bread plate. The desserts look good but have no taste to them..do NOT order the Pumkin Pie if its on the menu..tastes like dried out zuccini clay. Coffee machines are out of order at lido for most of cruise. Had horrible sewage smell thruout the ship for a full night after leaving Bemuda. Casino full of chain smokers and staff take 30 min to get you a drink. Ship rocked continously every moment at sea..reminded me of the Miracle when they ran it for 4 months with an engine out of service on the Alaskan run. No more Capt reception with free drinks for GOLD members. only Diamond-Platinum. Soft serve ice cream machines often out of service. Always a wait for pizza, burgers cooked beyond well done. Splendor has turned into a cheap vegas style junket, where over half are cruising free or near free because of their casino credits. Its a sleazy experience . Read Less

We were 6 friends waiting at Port and wondering why so long when it was announced we were changinging our iternary to Bermuda from Canada and away from the Hurricane. This is my 15th cruise having sailed with Carnival, Holland, Cunard and Nowegian. The FOOD was HORRIBLE in the main dining room for Every Meal. It is the same food as is being served at the Buffet. The Chefs don't care on Carnival. I really believe that Carnival will eventually go Buffet Only plus Pizza and Burgers. Carnival is joking with the patrons when the food is this bad. Carnival does not care, the food is of the lowest grade and cooked SO Bad. Did I say the FOOD was Bad, Horrible. You won't gain weight cruising with Carnival. Service was nice and attentive all over the ship. Our stewards did a nice job too. Bed was comfortable, AC first day was not very strong but did some work the second day and it helped. We had a Spa Balcony Room, nice size and gave us access to Spa with it's own large jacuzzi, sauna rooms and more. The comedians were good. The best part was being rerouted to Sunny Bermuda even if it was only for the day. I keep saying no more Carnival but they have the schedule I need. Our last 3 cruises with them the food has been as awful as the last. A pity as when we cruised with our kids in 1999 the food was suprisingly good. Also the wine list is low grade. Read Less

Won't take carnival again. If it's not for getting nickeled and dimed the whole the trip it's the general attitude of the employees and the company itself.Embarkation was a mess. They bumped the board time twice. Ended up leaving late at 8pm. Got on board and found out they lost the 5 x $30 transaction for soda cards. Soda cards to not print out from documentation. Which led me to track everything on boat. The $15 bucks credit per passenger was two rather than three on the sign card review, then when we called they put it on, the next day it was gone. So they never credited it for us. The weather was rough going down, could not go in the pools for the rocking of the ship. There were about 87 kids in each hot tub. If you went to the one on the serenity deck, it was not open when you would want to use it. If you are in before, they dump your belongings on the deck (in high winds) rather than say anything to you or ask you to move it. I managed to get in a hot tub twice despite Carnival. Enrichment, there was one cooking class, otherwise non existent.. Rates per say were fine. It's the nickle and dimeing you to death when you are on ship. My sons bought two watches in ships stores, within an hour they were both broke. They got them replaced, by the end of the cruise the new ones were both broke. Dining. We went to our assigned dining room twice. The first time it took 20 min to get drinks (soda). The second time it took 45 min. The rest of the cruise we ate at the mermaid cafateria (which did not have soda's). One good thing were the shows. The hypnosis show was hillarious. Even though we paid the 'pre paid gratuities' you just don't get service unless you tip at the bars to get soda's (which we already paid for twice). Once I went to the bar in the promenade to get soda with my daughter and ex and they got soda's for my daughter and ex and then walked away leaving no one in the bar and me without a soda. It was my first cruise. It sucked. I've already booked with another cruise line, will not ever spend another penny where it benefits Carnival in some way. there are many other instances of poor service, or us getting ripped off by Carnival. I provided them a list and they have not responded. Read Less

This was our third cruise, and second on Carnival. Cruise began a day late due to storm related delays as the ship was coming from the Bahamas. Carnival only reduces the price by 1/7 with no allowance for the hotel, meals, rental car, and other expenses incurred for the extra day at the port city. The crew was obviously stressed and fatigued by the previous bad weather and this continued with a very rough ride to Bermuda. The AC was broken in our room and it was too nasty outside (40 mph winds) to have the balcony door open. Somehow a heavy dose of cigarette odor was also being pumped into our cabin and hallway - likely due to some type of ventilation issue. Luckily after a day and a half our very friendly room stewardess was able to get maintenance to repair the AC and the odor was gone also. Sadly our original 2.5 days in Bermuda was cut to 20 hours as they left Baltimore late and left Bermuda early to avoid more bad weather. Only about 6 hours of the 20 was usable daylight time for touring the island. Carnival has changed their evening meals and not for the better. Compared to a previous cruise 2 yrs ago, it's a big step down. Of five meals, I'd rate only one above fair. And the portions are shrunken. It appears they are trying to drive everybody to the premium steakhouse @ 30 bucks extra / meal. We tried that one evening and it was excellent. The breakfast and lunch buffets were pretty good, although not as good as I remembered from previous cruises. We tried the sit down for lunch one day and the service was incredibly slow. Took an hour and 15 minutes for a sandwich. There were two excellent comedians on this trip, Roman Murray and Percy Cruz. The musical show was probably on par with a high school production, but given the rocky ride, they were hanging on for dear life. One show was completely cancelled due to technical problems. The cruise director appeared like a guy who lost his job selling cars at a "buy here, pay here" lot and tried something else. This was the first time we didn't get a customer satisfaction survey at the end of a cruise. I'm thinking Carnival already knew what the answer was. In summary, Carnival probably should have cancelled this trip or re-routed to a different location avoid the weather. I'm also quite disappointed in their current dining room fare. Read Less

I Just finished my cruise on the Carnival Pride, and outside of Mikita and her girls at David's Steak house, young girl from India on the Lido Deck and the pizza guy on the Lido deck this was the worst Carnival cruise I have ever been on. We were not notified until after 8PM, Saturday night that our cruise would not begin on 11/6, but would sail on Monday 11/7 at 1PM with over $100,000.00 worth of damages due to a storm that delay the Carnival Pride getting into Baltimore on 11/6.Crew members told me that passengers in the upper floors were sleeping in the hall ways and in the atrium which was flooded. Crew members told me that they were afraid during that storm. The Captain, knowing the Tropical Storm Shawn was in the Atlantic, heading towards Bermuda, took us into the storm while in my, and other guest opinions should have changed our destinations to New England. 48 hours later we arrived in Bermuda on Wednesday at 1PM and it took us until about 2:30PM to dock, clear customs and get to our first excursion. Our excursion lasted about 1 hr, 20 mins,, and since the shops close at 5PM, we stayed in the King's Wharf area and shopped till the shops closed and then went to dinner. On Sunday e were told we had to be back on board by 12:30PM, since the ship was leaving early, with the shops not opening till 10PM we figured with the 20 minute ferry ride, each way, to Hamilton, or the 45 minute travel time to, each way St. George's, it was not worth the risk of missing the 12:30/1PM sailing. we arrived off the Va Coast around 12:45Pm Friday afternoon and sailed up and down from Nagg's Head to the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay the rest of Friday and all day Saturday just punching holes in the water. 48 hours from Baltimore to Bermuda and only 22 hours from Bermuda to the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay. Two of the six Atrium elevators did not work, storm damage. Jay the Shopping expert, saw only twice, outside of on TV. One was at his post, the day before his show, which he had pamphlets out for Freeport. Very, very rude and arrogant! Only saw the cruise director on TV and stage. Very, very elusive. 50% or the crew was friendly, 50% of the crew was rude. What did Carnival offer us in return, they said that they would return 1/7th of the trip, in approximately two weeks, and only charge us 6/7th's of the tip fee. Carnival did allow us to cancel the remaining two excursions we booked. We had to spend an extra hotel night, and food which Carnival said a first they would not pay us back. So I paid $1253.95 for a five day boat ride, with no compensation from Carnival, no discount or upgrades for a future cruise, no payment for my room I had to rent so I could catch this cruise. Carnival did N-O-T-H-I-N-G! Food on the Lido deck and most items in the dining room, unless it came directly from the grill was cold and outside of the temperature safety holding zones. The busboys seemed to be standing around and only cleared tables when they felt like the really needed to, in non peak serving times. A ships tour of the kitchen was something else! I am a retired chef and a restaurant manager and the kitchen was "dirty". I would have been embarrassed to invite anyone to come into any of my kitchens and see the dried on food on carts, the floor needing deck scrubbing badly, standing water, food splattered n the sides of walk-in fridges, and poor food preparation. The stainless steel walls stainless steel looked like they had not been polished in months. The quantity of different gourmet meals offered for dinner each dinner meal has decreased to just a few gourmet meals and what food other items that was offered is something I could get in any Mom & Pop Diner. This was my 9th cruise, and the worst one I have ever been on. I expected a lot more from Carnival than what I got this time. If this is the "New" Carnival way of doing business, I and a lot of guest do not approve of it! I had to pay an extra $140, room and food, that I did not plan on. In my personal opinion, Carnival has gone from a very good cruise line to a so-so cruise line. Even though our next cruise will qualify us for platinum status, we are seriously thinking about trying another line. Read Less
