We are getting close to the end of an 8 day adventure on Carnival Magic and have a few negatives to report . The entertainment in the evening was not what we expected compared to our previous 2 cruises with Carnival. The only night we half enjoyed was the last night with the rock and roll of the 80's being played by the cast in costume. The entertainment on the main floor was much better with several different groups. The trio of female violinists from the Ukrane were the best. Some of the Pixel staff needs a lesson on customer courtesy as their new way of ordering pictures was very confusing and they were all 11x7 pictures but they didnt have one 11 x 7 frame to purchase and some of the help didnt even know how to order your pictures and didnt seem to care if you bought or not. We found most of the food ok but the dinner at night was great. We really need to put a shout out to our head waiter Joseph and his staff of Maryna and Cabata for the friendship they showed us every evening in the Northern Lights Restaurant. We hope to someday take another cruise and luck out to have them again. Also we would like to thank our housekeeping for the nice job of keeping our room clean and ice bucket filled. We did feel the carpet needed a good cleaning though. We will cherish all the fond memories we did have on this cruise though. We have previously been to Grand Turks but took the Rainbow Tour Bus for a tour of the island. My sister-in-law enjoyed it so that's what we had hoped for. A special thanks to Jaunita for her guide service on Bermuda. Very informative. My sister-in-law who took her first cruise with us at 83 years young got plenty of souvenirs to take back with her and we truly hope she decides to take another cruise in a couple years. My wife and I are planning an Alaska Cruise and Land tour in the next couple of years when she retires from her work. Once again, thank you Carnival for another great experience. Read Less

I choose Carnival Sunshine because we were able to depart from Charleston, SC. where I live! It was my first cruise and loved it! We cruised to Bermuda and Princess Cays from September 28-October 5th! Everyone was so nice and friendly! Our Steward LD (for short) kept us comfortable the whole time! Robert from Romania (Head Server) was awesome! One can tell he thoroughly enjoyed his job! He kept us entertained and was on the ball with his service! I would rate his service an 11!!!! The shows, food, Lido Deck, music, service, people and everything was wonderful! We also enjoyed the buffet.the ice cream and pizza! The the crew was friendly and accommodated us with all our needs. Shopping on the ship was awesome, I found some good deals for myself and family. I will do it all over again very soon!! Thank you very much Carnival Sunshine!! See you soon! Read Less

Why Yes, and No? The Sunrise is a ship that is not new, but is new, a refurbished ship with many new amenities and also many new cabins which means more people. Unfortunately the cabins were put in at the expense of public areas. So, why Yes and No? It's not a great ship but not nearly as bad as some of the reviews are making it out to be. We were supposed to embark in Manhattan, NY but were notified by Carnival a month before that the pier was being closed by Port Officials due to repairs, so we would embark in Brooklyn, NY after the ship disembarked passengers from the previous cruise in Manhattan and repositioned to Brooklyn. As we live on Long Island and Brooklyn is actually on Long Island, it was not a problem for us, but for others coming from out of the immediate area it posed somewhat of a logistical problem. But this was not Carnival's doing nor fault. The repositioning also caused a two hour delay in boarding. Carnival gives a choice of boarding times and we had chosen 12:30 to 1:00 PM, now making it a boarding time of 2:30 - 3 PM with sailaway at 6 PM. After speaking to a Carnival agent we were told to stick to the original time of 12:30, then another agent told someone on our CruiseCritic forum to go with the two hour delay. At this point I figured it would be a free for all as people would be arriving at all different times, and I was right. We unloaded at the baggage area at 1:14 PM, and we were on the ship by 1:56 PM, less than 45 minutes. We are not Platinum or Diamond VIFP and did not have FTTF. It went pretty smoothly, very organized, all the staff was helpful and friendly. Sailing out of Brooklyn you get to see the Statue of Liberty but do not sail by her. So the captain brought the ship out of the channel between the dock and Governor's Island and then turned UP river, just past the Statue and then back down again giving everyone on both sides of the ship some great views of her and great pictures too. My wife and I enjoyed the ship and enjoyed being on the ship. I can honestly say this was a strange cruise. We were supposed to go to Bermuda for two nights but due to rough seas and a hurricane we were diverted to Charleston, SC , then supposed to go on to Bermuda for one day. So a 25% future cruise credit because of the missed night in port. Then when the ship could not continue on to Bermuda due to rough seas, a 100% future cruise credit and a slooooooow (approximately 8 knots or around 10 mph) cruise home to Brooklyn. A total of five sea days, which we love, and a visit to a port we've never been to. We had some rocky seas and it seemed as if the ship was less stable than others I've been on. People were getting sick and I was queasy, but I had developed a problem in my abdomen just prior to the cruise so not sure how much that played into it. And we did not notice any foul odors or smells nor did we hear of a complaints of any. The Carnival Sunrise is a nice enough ship, but not too sure about the renovation. Carnival used to boast the biggest cabins on the sea, but it sure didn't feel like that at all. The room was sparse, one picture on the wall, a large screen tv, and that's it, fairly stark, but we didn't go to stay in our cabin. Plenty of food areas, the outside areas are nice, but getting to and from the Lido buffet was cramped, though not as bad as some of the reviews have said. I question that if they would have to close the outside decks due to weather if they would be able to accommodate all the passengers in the inside spaces. Guy's Burgers and Pig and Anchor were very good, as was the pizza and Blue Iguana Cantina. I only ate breakfast there, but it was a bit different and very good. The Lucky Bowl was good, I enjoyed the Asian "soup" bowls, but didn't eat at the Deli, nor the Seafood Shack. We always eat at the Steakhouse, and this was no disappointment, very good food, excellent service, and we took advantage of the free wine for the first night. We are not big drinkers, I don't drink at all and my wife lightly, so the bottle lasted the whole trip for her. Sushi bar was adequate, not great, but very nice over all. We did not eat at Cucina Del Capitano. Moving forward and aft on some of the decks was impossible causing diversions to other decks by going up or down and then reversing direction on the other side. This was on Decks 4 and 5. (We've cruised on the Carnival Splendor and didn't like it there either). The problem is that you use the elevator to get to a deck, only to find that you need to go to another deck to go through the ship. Also, some of the venues i.e., sushi bar, red frog pub, alchemy and the piano bar on the 5th deck are accessed either by the aft elevator or by walking through the casino, a smoking allowed area. Not good, but not really a deal breaker either. The entertainment was good, the shows very nice, and the shipboard musicians very good. The cruise director, Mikey, was very good, very high energy, funny and not intrusive. He and his team did a great job keeping things going, especially being as there were extra sea days to cover. We did not go to the comedy shows. The musicians found in the various venues were generally good, some not to our liking, and some were excellent. The staff; room stewards, main dining rooms, Lido food venues, Farenheit 555, and general cleaning crew, were excellent. They were friendly and very efficient. In Charleston we walked the Market to the right of the pier on, well, Market St. Nice, it seemed expensive to me, but I'm not a shopper. We also took a one hour carriage ride, with the company with the red sashes, through part of the historic area which was very nice, relaxing and informative. Guide was engaging, knowledgeable and humorous. Fee for the one hour was $28.00 per person. Disembarkation was very smooth and quick. We chose to have our baggage taken off and we also chose the late disembarkation. Finding our baggage was easy as it was the last set left in our zone and moving through the Customs line was pretty quick too. We were off the ship and waiting for about 10 minutes for our ride to pick us up. Good timing on my daughter's part. We go on a cruise to have a good time, and plan on it to be a good time. I've never had a bad time on a cruise, and we don't drink or gamble, I figure if you plan on it being good, it will be. Is this our favorite ship? No, but we would definitely sail on her again. At least the next time we'd be way more used to the through ship travelling. Read Less

I can’t begin to understand how any one can complain about the ship. Although I was one of the unfortunate ones to have their ports cancelled due to hurricane Humberto, I still can’t say a bad thing. They’re giving us a free cruise for the inconvenience and the staff did amazing! Yes being stuck on a port for 6 out of 7 days during bad seas was rough but the staff did everything they can to make us feel safe and welcomed. EVERY STAFF MEMBER on that ship is AMAZING ! The entertainment is top notch.. food is the best I’ve ever had and I’m sorry there was no waiting , ship was clean and never felt crowded. The entertainment went on even though it was hard to stand on the stage , trust me I know I was on it as well. You can’t predict bad weather and we we’re u lucky but As I said the staff did everything they could to make it a fun cruise . All our excursions were refunded immediately . I would highly recommend guys burgers and the blue cantina, food was amazing . The alchemy bar was hands down the best drinks and most talented bartenders I’ve ever seen and that’s coming from a bartender myself, I learned a lot of tricks from them. I highly Recommend ignoring the bad reviews and booking this cruise! Read Less

We were big Carnival fans but then they got greedy and service and quality went down to the basement. But we came back last year and things had improved-not much but somewhat On the Pride the service was excellent everywhere we went. Our cabin steward Yasa was fantastic. we had cruised with him before on Carnival. He exceeded all expectations of service and being just a great guy. We usually have issues in the formal dining. I mean some bad slow service but this time on the Pride- HayDee and her team of Roland and Rexter were outstanding. They were terrific people. My wife cried on the last service saying goodbye-Yeah I got a little choked up too. Due to weather the production shows were modified but still good. I hope Carnival keeps them as they are fun and entertaining. Some other cruise lines have changed things up and we don't care for their entertainment Cruise direct Dr. E worked hard to keep the crown engaged. He was fun. We are senior citizens but like fun times and Carnival most of the time provides that. But we expect excellent service and decent food. Carnival keeps trickling UP their drink prices and gratuity while limiting choices like a "bar" brandy and 18% tag on for drinks. They are greedy. Parents- either leave your kids at home OR watch them- IT is NOT their ship to run all over screaming and hollering. All in all- a good time was had. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it suited our time frame and the price was extremely fair. I was however nervous a couple of days prior to departure after reading some terrible reviews. Embarking went fantastic very quick and efficient the appointment times work so there is no wait to get onboard and begin the vacation. First impressions were staff very friendly and welcoming love the new designs in the lobby atrium very welcoming and feels very roomy. Straight up onto the lido deck we went to check it out. It was extremely busy as you can imagine as everyone was enjoying the bar and ample types of foods. Mikey from the entertainment was absolutely phenomenal I’ve never laughed so hard and right from the beginning I knew this was going to be a good one. We were able to access our cabins at 1:30pm which was awesome so we could get ourselves situated before we set sail. We stay in cabin aft 6439 balcony the room design was awesome and more than enough closets 3 in total full length mirror on inside of one of the doors. In the bureau there was ample drawers 6 in total. With a built in desk and another great mirror. And shelves built around it. The cabin was fabulous no complaints whatsoever about the cleanliness and the bathroom is actually bigger with a decent amount of counter space on the vanity along with 6 shelves. Love the water temperature adjuster huge thumbs up on this. Deck party phenomenal all the Entertainment was fabulous there was so much to do never a minute to become bored. Serenity was amazing we even found ourselves falling asleep with the tranquil music that was being played and the chaises made for 2 so comfortable. Dining room very efficient we were welcomed each evening no problems with service or food all excellent. I would highly recommend a night at the Fahrenheit steakhouse the food was amazing. All in all no complaints at all only praise. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we already booked for next year but this time instead of the 4 day we are doing 8 loved it Read Less

My wife's birthday was on the 12 of September. Bermuda was her first choice and Charleston was an easy commute from our home in NC. It was to be my birthday present to her. Once on board we were met by the "happiest and friendliest" crew compared to all our previous 13 plus cruises. While the Sunshine did show some "bumps and bruises" showing her age; the crew definitely made up for it. We all thought their most positive attitude stemmed from the top: Captain Lorenzo. To quote a familiar military phrase, " he leads from the front." His pleasing personality was always on display. Most significantly to this writer was the effort he and "Freddie," the head of Guest Services went to on my wife special day : having her picture taken with the Captain, Champagne at the dining table, special birthday cake, singing Happy Birthday by the Matte D's and personal appearance by the Captain and Freddie to wish her a Happy Birthday. My wife's reaction is hard to put into words but she did say at the time, "this will be remembered as the most special birthday and one I will remember the rest of my life." I think besides my wife's misty reaction - all in attendence also got a little moist around the eyes. The rest of the cruise was a very happy experience with the ever present greeting from every crew person, "Good morning or Day" with those broad smiles. To sum up this review, "we just finished a cruise with the happiest crew in the Carnival fleet." Read Less

This was our first cruise ever so we choose a 7day to Nassau Bahamas and a overnight in Bermuda. I only saw my 16y old at breakfast and Dinner plus the 2 shore excursions he made a bunch of friends his age doing their entertainment and activities all over the ship ( I highly recommend taking the "Restless Native Catamaran " shore excursions in Bermuda) I have to give a Shout Out to these's people they made our experience very memorable " James, Thai , Andy, Adam, Christian, with the games like Clue, Guess Who, trivia's ect and we must not forget the Comedians " Cowboy, Kim Harris, Al Cats " . Our first dinner was at the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse , the rest of the Dinners we eat a the" Sunrise Dinner " we got so spoiled , Henry & ----- table number 517 knew our names and had our drinks , they worked so hard for us I have to say "Thank You " I give them a 10 out of 10 thumbs up.. We did not want to leave the Sunshine ship it only felt like 3 days next time I'll be taking 10 to 14 days ... Definitely will go again !! The only thing that need to be more smoother is when we got to the port in Bermuda getting Off the ship was so crowded everyone wanted off at the same time , we had an excursion at a certain time but for some reason you let the people who did NOT have excursions go at the same time I thought the Excursions had priority off the ship first ? We chose this cruise as a first vacation for our blended family of 4 kids. With interior and balcony rooms on deck 6 aft we had plenty of space for her 2 girls and my 2 boys (ages 10, 10, 13, and 14.) Speaking of aft, the back of the ship was like a hidden gem that rarely got crowded and had plenty to offer. It was right up the stairs and the kids had plenty of time in the hot tubs and pool as well as the ropes course and Foosball at all hours of the day/night. Not a single meal disappointed but the lido buffet does get packed during prime hours. We avoided it during the breakfast and lunch rush and had no issues getting food other places. Kids said the hot dogs were the best they ever had. This was my 2nd cruise on the Sunshine class of ships and this sailing was more fun and less stressful than the Sunshine to the Bahamas a few years back. For the girlfriend and her 2 girls it was their first cruise and they loved it. Our only complaints were getting stuck on an elevator for 5 minutes. I'll go into some detail below but overall we had an amazing time going to Bermuda and would definitely sail again on the Sunrise! Now for some specifics: Embarkation and debarkation in New York was incredibility easy. I had faster to the fun, she did not, but we all got to board at the same time. It took 15 minutes from walking into the port to walking on the ship, and leaving was just as easy. We spent probably 20 minutes from when we left our room to walking through customs. Her interior room was small, but the 3 of them didn't do much but sleep in it. We spent a lot of time on my balcony enjoying drinks and the waves. Both rooms were always kept clean and our attendant Chai was awesome. Main dining room (your time dining) was always a blast and the kids had some amazing food. The lobster was a huge hit. Some of the small specialty places to eat were also good. This cruise lacked some of the fun shows in the liquid lounge but we were surprisingly entertained with a jazz program and always have a blast at Hasbro Game Night. I got to go up on the state for my 2nd time and we won. Chris (The Flying Scotsman) is a little over rated in my opinion. I didn't enjoy his company as much as Mason from the Sunshine and his one man show was the only thing we walked out on, the kids were not feeling it. But we did see 3 different shows in the comedy club, 2 of which were kid friendly and they loved it. Pools and hottubs were awesome and never that packed. The water was 80 degrees and felt great. Even the water slides were fun. Again, back on the Sunshine in April a couple years back the water was freezing so this was a pleasant treat. There were of course plenty of people not having a good time, mostly because they were upset with some of the language barriers or slower drink service on the busy days. The beauty of things like Cheers is that you just order another drink before you current one is gone! Bermuda was BEAUTIFUL. I've never had so much fun swimming in the ocean, i'm used to it being a little on the cold side but this trip was perfect. The bus ride to the beach was way too hot and the kids didn't enjoy that part so much. The beach was also packed, but it's a big ocean. Overall, the 6 of us had an amazing trip and only have a handful of complaints but not enough to review this vacation as anything short of perfect. I booked the Sunrise based on the fact that it was recently refurbished and leaving for Bermuda out of New York. I didn't want something as touristy as the Bahamas again. I also knew full well of the "poop cruise" and the negative ratings that the Triumph and some of the newly named Sunrise was getting but didn't let that deter me because you can often tell that some reviews are negative because of someone specific attitude or that they didn't really know what they wanted out of a vacation. We just got back from a 4 day Bermuda on the Sunrise. We chose this cruise because of the length as we did not have the time to book the 8 day to the Caribbean. Regardless, we had so much fun. The ship is in great condition and I thought they did a great job with the refurbishment. You are able to tell that the ship is older, however the cabins and guest areas have been quite modernized and are definitely a big step up from the older carnival ships. Our cruise director Chris (the Flying Scotsman) was fantastic! is is always full of energy and he seems to make an appearance at every event around the ship. The fun squad and DJ were good. But we wish they had a few more deck parties as those are usually our favorite on Carnival. We enjoyed our cabins very much as well. We had the interior with walkway views on deck 7 at the front of the ship. It was great having a full size window just like an Oceanview cabin. both embarkation and disembarkation were very easy. During embarkation it was only about 20 minutes from curbside to on the ship. during disembarkation we waited in a short line in the atrium to get off and had very minimal lines at customs. Another reason we chose this ship was for all of the dining options. We are big fans of the new restaurants added such as guys burger joint, the blue iguana cantina, and the pig and anchor smokehouse which was delicious. The service in the dining room was great, we had your time dining and we were always seated in the Sunshine restaurant at the aft of the ship. In Bermuda we decided to take a taxi to Horseshoe bay beach, as we heard it was a great beach. The ride cost $7 per person and was about 15 minutes away. The beach was absolutely beautiful. The front gets crowded, but the back and side of the beach have lots of coves that are much more secluded and great for spending a day at the beach. But, definitely decide to return to the ship early as the line to get a taxi/ shuttle back to the ship was extremely long and people were scrambling to get back to the ship. Overall this was a great getaway cruise, we would definitely go on this ship and route again! Read Less

We have used Carnival before and this was our second time on this particular ship. It is an older ship, but is kept very clean, what it lacks in glamour, the staff make up for in a positive attitude! First and foremost- our room stewards, Dedi & Sasha were excellent! They gave us extra towels, kept ice in our rooms and always stopped to socialize and ensure that our needs were met! Thanks so much guys! Cruise director, Deon was wonderful! We really enjoyed the music trivia nights with him and Double D. Also, a big thank you to Dan & Steffan for hosting the comedy shows and being so friendly! Johnny Milwater, Cee Jay Jones, Thomas Brown and Jodi White put on great comedy shows and we had lots of laughs! A special thanks to LexAppeal for your nightly performances and the rock show - we thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to all of you! Thanks to Bandit and the burger guys, we love Guy's burgers! The pixel staff was wonderful as well! Reymond and Made were very attentive on the smoking deck as well, thanks guys for keeping everything cleaned up. We would like to send a special thanks to all of the dining and housekeeping staff on the Lido deck. The only negative thing about the cruise was the long wait for the dining room on cruise formal night. It took 45 minutes to get in the dining room and another 45 minutes to get our appetizer. That was very disappointing, but the good was good! Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely do it again! Thanks to everyone that made the trip wonderful, we met some wonderful people and thoroughly enjoyed our 5th Carnival Cruise. Read Less

The food and dinning room service was great. Room service was good, Guys Burgers have the best hamburger any where. The casino was good, won some money & the casino staff was so nice This was a Primary Cruise and the gifts were really nice. The shows were good and had a great people. The filet mignon for breakfast was always cooked to perfection. The prime rib at dinner was yum. Our cabin guy was very good at his job. I liked how Carnival allowed us to buy a liter of crown royal for our room. Took the Ecstasy for a 6 day to Bermuda. We have been on the Ecstasy before. The crew was great and they took care of any issues very easily. Food was good and everything was clean. Entertainment was top notch. This is an old ship and all the public areas are above the rooms. The whole cruise was great, weather was so so but carnival didnt make the weather. trouble didnt come till the very last day. Captain warned us that we would be in 4 hours late due to the heavy seas and strong head wind. but over night i got a letter saying i needed to go to a deck 8 lounge to meet with customs. It stated i would owe the customs money. I only bought 2 cartons of cigarettes even though the guy tried hard to sell me 4 cartons. you are only allowed one carton per passenger and since it was only me and my wife that makes 2 my limit. I also bought her some jewelry at the fun shops that was over 700 dollars but then again for two people it is 1600 total. I had maybe 50 dollars in trinkets from the port so i was way under on customs. BUT Carnival turned my name in as oweing duty as if i was travelling alone. Mean while my daughter got the same type of letter becausse she spent 1300 at the fun shops. So 1030 i get in line as the ship docks. and hour later there was no one yet. one guy showed to do this ( this isnt carnivals fault) but me standing in line was. Finally i was next and inside 45 seconds the customs officer after looking at my statement stamps me approved and sends me on my way. BTW my daughter had the exact same experience. Anyhow now i had to get in line to leave and we were in port nearly an hour by this time. Lesson learnt was dont spend more on board than you can individually bring ashore duty free, it doesnt matter if there are 2, 3 or 4 of you in your party. There were a lot of people in that line and i was close to the front.I feel for those at the end. If carnival selected with a bit more intelligence it wouldnt have been an issue at all. The food was overall really good. I love the ribs, and the service this time was impecable. From sit down to stand up only an hour, usually it is more like 90 to 120 minutes. We did have 3 sea days so brunch was something i love on carnival and it was as usual delicious. The band Lexappeal was awesome and was even included one night in the stage show. The male and female singers were great. The other performers were also very good and each had a very different genre and in its own right appealing. The ship doesnt have a big screen but I dont really watch movies often. The port was ok. Glad i went , probably wont return. Things seems a bit more pricey than normal. I took a shore excursion to see the whole of the island and they did that for sure. I think if I did return i would take the ferry over to hamilton for the shopping. Just my 2 cents. Let me finish on a totally up note. The crew was fantastic. obviously the management is doing a bang up job. Oh and I am including a pic of my towel animal..... Read Less

We did this cruise because we had to cancel another cruise; boy was I glad we got to take this cruise. It was the last cruise on this ship out of New York, and they did it New York way! Getting on the ship was fine, as long as you show up on your designated time on your boarding pass, otherwise you have to go into another line. I have cruised many carnival ships before, but this cruise ranked #2 on all my cruises. We had the best cruise director ever. Ryan and his staff kept us quite entertained. Never had a boring day. The comedians were fantastic, Mike Davis and Jeffery Jene kept us in stitches. The food was good, the ship was clean. I would recommend eating at the 55 steakhouse. It was such a great experience. The service was more personal because you have less people to attend to unlike the main dining room. The dining room service was fast, I am not sure why people are complaining, but on our cruise we did not have to wait for dinner. One tip is that you can eat at the Pig and Anchor for free on the first day of the cruise until 3:30pm. Drop your bags off, and go there, you will not be disappointed. All and all a good time was had by all. Florence ruin our beach day in Bermuda, because the waves on the beach were large and we had red flag warning. I will be cruising again in January with Carnival and I hope Ryan is our cruise director. I also stayed in a spa cabin which was a first, but would do it again. Like having access to the spa and its amenities it had to offer. Also the celestial show was amazing. You can only see this show on the Horizon. Book your cruise on Horizon, you won't be disappointed. Read Less

My first attempt at a cruise review after 4 cruises. We were to leave Baltimore on September 9, 2018 for Bermuda. Because of Hurricane Florence we were rerouted to the Bahamas. Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Freeport. We cruised to those islands in 2011. I will give you some updates on changes I noticed on this cruise since our last cruise in 2016.. MY OBSERVATIONS: PARKING LOT: There used to be 2 lanes, one for cash and one for credit. The cash line was always the shortest. Now both lanes are open for either cash or credit. EMBARKATION: Seeming long lines at the 1:00 - 1:30 check in but they moved really fast. Carry on bags went through the xray conveyor belt but this time they were not opened and inspected like they did in 2016. We were aboard in about 15-20 minutes. Rooms were ready at 2:00. SHOWER: Water pressure in the shower was excellent. Shower curtain was extra long and didn’t wrap around you while you were taking a shower. I do wish they would add a small grab bar in the shower while the Pride is in drydock. ROOM SERVICE: Room steward brings a card and you check off AM, PM or BOTH. We were not pressured one way or another. We chose AM and wrote in ice. Our room steward was I Ketut and he was great! ROOMS: Our 4K room had a flat screen TV. Previous years you could find the day’s menu and check your sign-and-sail balance on the TV. Now you have to download the Carnival Hub to see those things. We didn’t take a device to use and locked our phones in the safe so this was no help to us. We would check our balance and add money if needed at one of the Kiosk’s at either end of the Casino. Never had to stand in line at Guest Services. I listed the TV Channels you get on the room TVs at the end of this review. BRUNCH: OJ was the only juice offered but you could ask for others. The bread basket came around and you could pick one piece. Menu was great! DINNER: We had YTD on the 3rd floor dining room. Bread basket was placed on the table. Water was really good on this cruise. Some choices came in little bit larger portions (caesar salad especially). Our waiters were awesome! Arta, Arya and Libin. At around 5:30 the line would start forming for the YTD. Crew members from the Dining Room were nice enough to bring those disabled guests right in to a table so they didn’t have to stand in line. I thought that was very nice. In past years they had a menu board outside the Dining Room with that night’s dinner menu. This cruise there was none. LIDO: Lots of good choices for lunch. Breakfast was always the same. I am not a fan. Best drink we found from Lido was to put about ½ inch of lemonade in the cup, add ice and then fill with water. Excellent lemon-water! Lido now has platters alongside the plates. Perfect to use as a tray if you need one, especially for bringing coffee and pastries back to the room. GUY’S BURGERS: Guys is a matter of opinion. Some love it and some do not. My husband loved it but I don’t usually eat burgers. The fries looked greasy and not crispy. However, I love fried onion sandwiches! I got a burger roll from Guys and filled it with the (yes, very greasy) fried onions from their fixins bar. Delish! PIZZA: We both preferred the pizza of 2 years ago made on a flat bread/foca bread type crust. This time it was made on traditional round pizza crust and it was served as ½ pizza when you ordered. (Unless you wanted a whole one. Approximate size was a medium). SHOWS: We didn’t go to any of the musical shows except KARAOKE which was fun. Hosted by Assistant Cruise Director Bendy Blake who was awesome! We did attend the CARIBBEAN SHOPPING SHOW. As reported by others, it was a waste of time, just telling you where to shop on the islands. (Stores associated with Carnival). Love and Marriage Show was hosted by Dr. E and of course it was very funny. He asked around 10 questions. COMEDIANS: Didn’t attend but heard they were very funny but only about 20 minutes sessions. Last couple of nights they had no comedians because they were to be picked up in Freeport on Friday but we skipped that port and came straight home Thursday after Half Moon Cay. CASINO: We spent a little time in the Casino on the first night. The smoke was unbearable. When we got back to our room, our clothes smelled like cigarette smoke! I wish they would make the table game side of the Casino the smoking section and the Slot Machines on the right as non smoking. That might help a little. DH was able to pick up a stack of $100 from the claw machine. We saw a couple other people grab one as well. CREW: As always, you won’t find a nicer, friendlier crew anywhere. When ship is docked in a port, the crew members are busy cleaning. CRUISE DIRECTOR: Reverend Dr. E (Eversen) was so funny and personable! Best cruise director we have ever sailed with! PORTS: GRAND TURK: We were last in Grand Turk in 2011 so it has been awhile. Back then Carnival advised to stay in the Carnival port area and not wander off beyond there. This time, locals were everywhere in the port. They offered golf cart rentals, jeep rentals, tours, chairs and umbrellas closest to the beach. It was really a big difference and to me it just seemed overcrowded with so much going on. Port shops were great. Half Moon Cay: Awesome as always. Captain announced on Thursday evening when we left Half Moon Cay that we would not be docking at Freeport on Friday due to Hurricane Florence. We would leave right then and go farther out to sea and around the Hurricane on our way back to Baltimore. Friday was a rough sea day as we did hit some rough seas. This also cancelled the Comedians for Friday and Saturday as we were unable to pick them up in Freeport. DEBARKATION: We did self-assist for the first time and loved it! If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer. Debarkation Day... and I feel like I should write this review after hearing so many negative people on the ship and on the reviews. First of all, embarkation was a breeze. Waiting 30 minutes in line but you know what, they got everything right and were thorough with security. I don’t mind waiting. We went to Guy’s Pig and Anchor after embarking. It was free guys!!! Waited maybe 10 minutes in line, best food we had all week! Only free on embarkation day. Overall cleaniless was great! Employees were constantly cleaning, mopping the wet floors. Food: buffet for breakfast was good. Burritos were delicious! some commentors say ‘breakfast couldve been better’. Where i’m from eggs, toast and bacon is breakfast. So not sure what ya’ll were expecting? Rib eye? Guy’s Pig and Anchor was phenomenal! We went a second time for $27 we got ribs, corn, cornbread, trascan nachos. It was more than I could eat and absolutely delicious! We ate at the Meridian all week, again top notch! We even got offered a second plate of lobster one night which was surprising and very welcoming! Staff: were all friendly! Our cabin steward Daniel was real nice. Always called us by our first names and chatted with us. Debarkation process also went well! My only two negatives are: an adult only pool would’ve been nice or even just for a few hours. The pools are small and bombarded with kids, but hey I guess we shouldve went to an adult only if we wanted. The meradian, unless you have the app you have to go up a floor to reserve a spot then walk down to your table. I see this being s nuisance for families with kids and people with disabilities. We used the app on the second day once we knew about it and it works flawlessly. In all great trip, great ship! Carnivals reputation for a party ship was not seem on this ship. Oh and the comedy shows were amazing! Caroline and Tommy Drake were hilarious and had us in tears all 5 shows we attended. The brass boys and crushed velvet were a great jazz band we listened to every night!!! We love them!!! Read Less

I chose this cruise for the location, destination as well as the ship.It was perfect for us. It has a lot to offer like the water works area, sport deck was excellent. My grand children 10,11,12 fully enjoyed the rope course , the water racing slides, pool table, foose ball, chess , bean bag toss and mini golf. The pool itself is small but very nice and refreshing. Ship looks beautiful and clean. All the staff was very friendly. We used the public restrooms a lot as we were out of our cabin most of the day and they were all clean .It was nice to see top management out and about often, not only to observe that all is running well but to stop and visit with families making them feel welcomed. It was a true delight to my grand children to play a game of foose ball and chat with the Hotel Director , Niksa P. I have been on many cruises where you may get a hello greeting from upper staff and that is it as they are very busy understandably. A fantastic Cruise , food was great in buffet as well as dining rooms. We fully enjoyed both. Dining room staff at our table was spot on perfect. The kids did go to the kids club a few times and really liked it but we stayed busy with activities and shore excursions that the kids didn't go everyday. .We had room service one morning and they were very prompt and enjoyable. We did the Dolphin Play Excursion, pricey but they did a great job with the kids. You can take photos of your family but you are not up close to capture alot as your family is in the water with dolphins so about 50/50 were ok pics so we did buy from the company as well...pricey too but worth it. Wonderful Memories. We also did the Crystal Caves and Aquarium tour with zoo. Caves were Awesome Aquarium and zoo very small and so so. We stopped at a light house for the kids to climb as well. We had a fantastic beach day at Horseshoe Bay. So pretty there, yes lots of people but restrooms and place to eat and drink and a life guard on duty. We took the bus at 7.00 a person each way. The bus area is right off the ship .. easy ... We got our moneys worth for our family and have made memories for our 3 grand kids forever Read Less

My husband and I enjoyed our Carnival Sunshine cruise to Bermuda... The Sunshine reminded me of an older mini Vista. Some rust here and there but otherwise clean and still in great shape featuring all of the 2.0 upgrades and cute wooden doors. Shows were entertaining and the food on the ship was great and consistent! We decided this cruise to eat in the MDR every night however did enjoy the lunch options at both JiJis and Cucina del Capitano. We purchased the Cruising the Vineyards package and found it an excellent value for five bottle of wines or champagnes to enjoy with our dinners, they would recork and store in the cellar for us when needed and then back the following night to the table. In the dining room they acknowledged we were celebrating my birthday and our belated anniversary by singing to us and bringing small cakes...nice touch! We had Emma Nixon as our cruise director and she was excellent, we loved her...she was fun and her and the entertainment team kept everything running smooth all week! There was always something to do, too much at times! Epic Rock and the Lipsync battle were our overall favourites fo the week. Our room steward was absolutely wonderful, as was our waitstaff team, they were all so friendly and we never had to ask or want for anything! We did the behind the fun tour and really enjoyed seeing and learning all about how the ship and crew functions and of course meeting and having photos taken with the captain. The embark and disembark process was slow and we had priority...only real downside to leaving from Manhattan port. The port: Bermuda was absolutely beautiful, so much to see. We did not do any Carnival excursions this cruise instead the first day we took the ferry to Hamilton and walked to the cathedral, parks, restaurants and shopped for awhile. The second day in port we hired a blue flag taxi driver who came highly recommended and saw almost the entire island in just over six hours. The third day we took the shuttle to Warwick Long bay and walked the path to Horseshoe bay beach stopping for photos and swimming along the way. Everyone on the island was so friendly, it was breathtakingly beautiful...we can’t wait to return again someday. Read Less

This is our 6th Carnival cruise and the 4th on the Pride. We love the Carnival Spirt Class ships. From the layout to the capacity. This cruise was sold out and we never felt crowded or have to wait long for anything except Muster and debarkation which is normal. The cruise terminal staff was quick and had us onboard in less than 20 minutes. Once we left the ship we were back in our car in less than 15 minutes. This was our first cruise to Bermuda and it was nice being able to enjoy the island each day and have place to come back to for a rest or a meal whenever we needed. The Kings Wharf / Royal Naval Dockyard area are great if you don't want to stray to far away and just want to shop and do a few activities. The shuttles, busses, taxis and ferries are all right there and can take you anywhere else you need to go. Even with a larger ship in port with us it was easy to get transportation without a long wait. We decide not to do any shore excursions because we had so much time on the island to do our own thing. The itinerary is not offered too often from Baltimore and was a nice option from the normal itinaries. We really enjoyed the extended time in port allowing us to explore and enjoy the island. Any of the staff and crew we interacted with on the Pride were always friendly and professional. The ship is in very good shape. They were always cleaning and doing repairs as needed to keep her tidy. It was disturbing to see that some guests seem to think the ship is their own toy. Damaging, defacing or just leaving trash anywhrere they please. The food and entertainment on the Pride was as good as the first time we cruised. I see others complain and can't understand why. It is what you make it. If I have ever needed something or had a concern I have asked the staff and they make it good and take care of it. We have already booked our next cruise on the Pride in less than 6 months. Read Less

I can't say enough good things about the cruise my DH and I took to celebrate our 25th anniversary on the Carnival Pride. From the accommodations, to the friendly crew, to the Carnival Excursions, the entire experience was absolutely fantastic. This was only our second cruise (first back in 1999), but we've already booked 2 more! We boarded the ship in Baltimore - such an easy boarding experience. Then we enjoyed all the ship had to offer - Steakhouse reservations one evening, comedy shows throughout, a Behind the Fun tour, several stage shows, and the Cheers! drink package. Our waiters Francisco, Igusti, and Michele were so attentive and did a fabulous job making us feel spoiled. The Serenity Pool (though often crazy crowded) was a nice respite from the regular Lido deck pool. Our room #7192 was perfectly situated in the middle of everything, but was not at all noisy. The balcony was fantastic - so nice to be able to watch the ship pull into Bermuda and dock, then watch it all drift away as we sailed off. :( The Carnival Excursions, though somewhat pricey, were definitely worth it. Highly recommend the Restless Native Catamaran snorkeling excursion. We had a private cove all to ourselves to snorkel, look for seashells, or just float and enjoy paradise. The crew (Zander, Sam & Steve) were very personable and made us feel right at home. And the Rum Swizzles and freshly made chocolate chip cookies were perfect for the ride back. Also, the Horseshoe Bay excursion (though way too short) was an awesome experience. The driver even took us the long way back to the ship, past the Gibbs lighthouse, for some photo ops. Check out the Arts and Crafts market and the Ferry (within walking distance to the ship) - very nice! Also, visit Hamilton via the Ferry (only $4.00 one-way) and enjoy some of the amazing shops in town. I honestly can't wait to go back to Bermuda! Read Less

We planned this trip almost a year and a half ago, and choose both Carnival and the Carnival Sunshine for my parents to renew their vows on the ship. Overall, Carnival went above and beyond for my parents the entire ceremony was amazing, even the staff loved it! This was our second Carnival cruise since our cruise on the Carnival Triumph in 2009 so it has been a while but the Carnival Sunshine was an amazing ship, in great condition all around and her staff were excellent. Big shout out to Melissa who put together the entire ceremony she went above and beyond. Only minor complaints were more MDR food options, and a better midnight buffet. Our cabin, a Oceanview was perfect for three in a cabin and the entertainment were great as well. We loved this trip so much, we booked it again next year on the Sunshine as well! Full review will posted on the Carnival Boards as well. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. It wasn't a hit and run cruise but rather a stay put in one port get to really see the island type of cruise. We found our stateroom to be roomy and clean. We spent many an hour on our balcony. It was unfortunate that we left Bermuda hours ahead of schedule kind of killing the last day that we had planned. But now we have a reason to go back! The food on the ship was both delicious and plentiful. And always came to the table hot, that is very important to us. The cocktails were well made and strong, the way we like them. We found the ship easy to get around after the first day or so. The nightly Dive In Movies were a great way to spend an evening if you're not into sitting in the lounges or piano bars. We would definitely recommend this cruise to our friends. And will plan other cruises on Carnival's cruise line. Read Less

I was very happy to sail on the Sunshine, Carnival did a wonderful job. We lucked out this week while others were unsure of their sailing to the Caribbean, Bermuda was beautiful. We did have rain the first day but that was it all other days was clear sailing. Leaving out of NYC was good (I never experience a problem) we waited a bit for the ship to clear, and was boarding in no time. We went up on deck for lunch, the buffet had a variety of items and all that I ate was very good. We did sit in back as there was more seating. While we were eating the announcement stated cabins were available. We dropped off our carry on and began exploring the ship. I had an inside spa cabin 11004, this was a nice inside cabin, quiet and close the the spa. We did a spa tour and while I always felt the spa prices were higher than what I would usually pay I decided the special seaweed wrap was something I wanted to do but never did. My husband chose the hot stone and bamboo. He loved it. What I had was one of the most enjoyable treatments I had in a long time. It was 2 hours and when I was done, I could barely walk alone and my body was so relaxed. I would do this again. Check it out!!! and no I didnt buy the items suggested but it was one of the best treatments. We had anytime dining, I chose this because we were traveling with my sister and brother in law and was unsure of what time they liked to eat dinner. When you have this, you must go on deck 5 and get a reservation. The first night was the only busy night, we decided to use the Italian Restaurant as we had a free night there. While I heard poor reviews, I will say I thought the food was very good, service was excellent. So we made a great choice. Every other night the line for dinner was no more than a 10 min wait. We did eat one night at the steak house, as we were celebrating birthdays, and anniversaries. The food and service was excellent. I love the lamb chops amazing!!!. While we are talking about food, I enjoyed every dinner, the food was good and so happy to see the cold soups still on the menu!!. The first day we got to Bermuda, we decided to stay on the ship, and enjoyed the sunshine and spa. The next day, we did a Carnival tour, I still do Carnival tours instead of private the price is a few dollars different and its worry free. We did the 5 hour tour of Bermuda. I enjoyed this, we had time to shop and our tour guide was excellent. The next day we were going to plan a beach day but due to ships needing to come in due to the storm that week we had to leave early so we didnt do the beach. I was ok with it as I know I will be back and now I know what I didnt see and what I want to see in the future. Bermuda was very nice, expensive but I dont shop and I eat on the ship. I was looking for knee socks for my two little grandsons as I love the Bermuda attire. I want to share with you that the ship did not feel crowded at all. I loved the ship and the crew was excellent. not sure why people say horrible things about this ship because I liked it. If you are looking for a ship that you can walk through and enjoy this is a mid size ship. I am not a huge mega ship where if you are on the aft, it takes a long walk to get to where you want to go. I would also like to share, the martini bar was excellent!!! I would do another cruise with Carnival on the Sunshine again and again. You will love the cruise but remember, you make your fun, it's your vacation so enjoy it. Read Less
