We booked this cruise in December 2015, our TA got us a great deal on an Ocean Suite, however, my wife was taken into hospital 3 weeks before we were due to sail. We feared that we would have to cancel, but her health improved quite quickly, and we both decided that it would probably be beneficial to have 8 days of rest and relaxation aboard ship but not do any off ship excursions. This proved to be a good decision.
We had booked the Hotel Continental in Barcelona for a 2 night pre-cruise stay, it is a wonderfully quirky place and we had an excellent room with a queen sized bed and a balcony overlooking Las Ramblas. We loved this hotel and have already booked there again prior to a cruise we are taking next June.
On departure day the cruise terminal was extremely busy and the safety drill later in the day was a bit chaotic. We found out later that the previous cruise was delayed arriving in Barcelona due to engine trouble and that as a result everything was running behind schedule. We had to queue for about 20 minutes before we could drop off our luggage, after that we were checked in and aboard the ship pretty quickly. As we were in a suite we had priority check in, so that probably helped. We were also pleased to discover that as suite guests our room was ready straight away, this enabled us to drop our hand baggage off and go to the Lido buffet for some lunch.
The ship is huge and even after 8 days aboard with no shore excursions we felt that we still hadn't seen everything it had to offer.
Accomodation...Our stateroom, as I mentioned earlier, was an Ocean suite on deck 7. It was a large room with a king bed, large sofa, armchair, coffee table, dressing table, fridge, safe and an enormous flat screen TV, there was also a separate closet area for clothes. The bathroom was also a good size with a full sized whirlpool bath with an overhead shower, wc and double washbasins. The balcony was the full width of the room with 3 chairs and a small table. Our cabin steward Mihai was unobtrusive but very efficient. Overall , we were very happy with our choice of cabin.
Dining... We ate all our breakfasts and lunches in the Lido buffet. The was a lot of choice and the food was very tasty. For dinner we were on Your Time Dining, for this you had to check in at the reservations desk on Deck 5 and the go to the Horizons restaurant which was on 2 levels and had entrances on decks 3 & 4 (ours was deck 4, the upper level). Apart from the first night when everybody was still unsure about the system, we never had to wait more that a couple of minutes either to check in or be seated in the dining room. We had a great service team and requested their service area for all the following nights.
Entertainment...There are some great entertainers in all the bars, our favourite was the Red Frog pub. We also enjoyed the dive in movies in the evenings on the pool deck and the Thrill Theatre, my wife particularly liked the scary late night showing there. Apart from the Red Frog we didn't go to many of the bars and shows as we preferred to sit out on deck in an evening on the very comfortable lounge chairs and sofas chatting to other passengers.
Conclusion... We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise on the Vista, the crew and other passengers were very friendly and we would have no hesitation in cruising with Carnival again in the future Read Less
