We have taken our family on 5 cruises. This line was the worst. Our luggage was lost, which the chief purser refused to take responsibility for, not too mention two other bags were torn and our stuff broken both coming and going.

The food was awful, we all got sick the 2nd night, for those of us that ate the fish. The rooms were dirty, and noisy and our mini balcony was a room with two doors that opened inward to reveal a mini WALL and a tender boat that blocked any chance of a view. You also had to keep those curtains closed because at all hours of the days there were deck hands on those boats, cleaning or whatever which I found out when I came out of the shower NAKED to see a man standing at my open window.

The kids activities were a joke and they lost my 9 year old the first day he went, the 12 year olds are unsupervised in a disco room with 17 year olds that were making out each day with no cruise staff anywhere to be seen in the disco room they used for the teen clubs. The 7 year old was in a room with 3 sicker than you know what kids, so he never went back there and our excursion to the Ixtapa Island getaway was dirty, the snorkeling cost more (they didn't tell you up front) and the tour guide bus driver was either drunk or blind while driving what was to be an air conditioned bus that was hot as heck that he almost drove into about a dozen parked cars, but managed to miss them by hitting every branch on every tree on the road. We get to this island to change in what we were told was bathrooms, only to step into a little hole in a wall that had 3 inches of human waste all over the floor and holes in the walls that allowed everyone to see you, but who cares because there wasn't even a toilet, just a hole in the ground where everyone made a toilet, which explained the human waste. My kids got bit by sand sharks, my husband thrown into a bed of rocks that got sea earchent quills all in his legs and arms, that sent them all to the infirmary where they barely had the ability to help us.

The captain refused pictures at his gala, which is the only time you saw him and the shows were so r-rated that we as adults were even offended by the little Asian woman and the sailor on leave making reference to making love right there on the stage.. it was sick and perverted.

They charged us for bottled water we never drank that they even took back on the last night.

Our room broke a pipe in the wall and 2 of our 4 rooms got flooded, and the pictures cost 20.00 each and the water camera we paid 15.00 for broke and they refused a refund. We cried more than laughed and would NEVER EVER, EVER CRUISE CARNIVAL! this was the trip for ..you know where.. and to say one last thing the Manzinillo port was the dirtiest disgusting place we'd ever seen, docking in front of the waste plant and we got caught in a shoot out between the local police and the local gangs. DO NOT CRUISE CARNIVAL unless you plan on leaving your kids at home, because a pervert can grab them and this staff would not blink an eye, you'd have to take out high insurance for your lost and damaged bags and medical needs and need a strong stomach for the things we had to see. Royal Caribbean is such a higher class of cuisines that we would never ever cruise carnival even if it were free, and this was costly in so many ways, what a waste of 7 thousand dollars and 8 nights of our life that we will never get back. DO NOT CRUISE CARNIVAL IF YOU VALUE YOUR KIDS AND YOUR HEALTH AND MENTAL STATE!

We have been on 5 cruises, Carnival was the worst. Our luggage was lost and our other bags were torn and two we did not get for one day as they delivered it to the wrong room. One never showed up the entire cruise and they could care less of our loss. The food was terrible and made us sick. We had 4 cabins and everyone that ate fish got violently ill. The rooms stunk, and were noisy and our mini balcony room was no balcony, it was a joke with two doors that opened inward to show you a little 3 foot wall that blocked you from moving further and your view was a stinky, noisy, creaky life boat that blocked any view you thought a window room would give you.

The kids activities were non existent. They had no supervision and sick kids in the play rooms and they let kids as young as 9 like my son leave the play room and get lost or go anywhere they want, while the teens in charge lounged and chatted with each other. Then they lumped 17 year old with 12 year olds (which was our daughter) in this two story disco room that was filled with kids smoking and making out that made you sick and scared all at the same time. They had no planned activities, just suggestions of things to do and even then they never followed through so our kids never went back. It was a joke unlike the Royal Caribbean line that had jam packed supervised fun stuff all day long. This ship was downright dangerous for kids to be on.

There was no kids pool, so they just dropped off into 4 feet of water, so the not so strong swimmers struggled. The slide ... OMG what a joke, it doesn't even go into a pool!!!! It stops at the end and they have to climb out, to which our son fell out and had to go to the infirmary and he was cut up and bruised and there were no adults anywhere near the end of the slide. We waited at the steps and realized how dangerous it was and they never went on it again, not to mention it did not have enough water so they got burned coming down.

The shows were so R-rated that I as a 47 year old ex-navy adult was even offended by the act of singers making love right there on the stage ... it was perverted.

They charged us for bottle water we never drank, our room flooded and the pictures cost $20.00 each. And the water camera we paid $15.00 for because they lost our luggage with our cameras broke and they refused me a refund.

Acapulco was fine and we hired a taxi for $15.00 per person that spent the day with us (telling us time was no issue) and he took us to one end and the other of the city and we enjoyed this very well English speaking man named Fernando. DO NOT use the taxis that are marked with the men in the colored shirts. Use the ones further away from the ship in the white shirts that say cruise line something or other ... they are the only ones in white shirts with collars. They are cheaper and more reliable and speak great English and take you on unlimited time for the same price all day.

Our excursion to the the Ixtapa Island getaway was a nightmare and the snorkeling cost more (which we did not know up front) and the tour guide bus driver was incompetent and our kids got bit in the ocean and there were no bathrooms but yet a dinky doorless shack that had human waste everywhere when you stepped into the floor. This made my wife puke, which who could tell with what was on the floor already, and cry and we were stuck there until the tour was over while our tour guide was drinking Coronas. My kids got bit by big unknown scary fish and sand sharks and jellyfish were present because these locals were too lazy or stupid to out out nets to block the dangerous fish from coming to the people. I got thrown into rocks full of sea erchens that embedded their quills in my legs and arms, which sent me to the infirmary.

The Manzanillo port was the dirtiest most disgusting place we'd ever seen, docking in front of the waste plant and we got caught in a shoot out between the local police and the local gangs. Even the staff on board said they never get off there because it is unsafe and disgusting. You pay $3.00 round trip to town and board a stinky dirty broken down bus to go about two blocks! The shopping is a joke as it is not local vendors but local shops so they really do not want your American business and try to take advantage of you by pricing differently in dollars ... beware!

DO NOT CRUISE CARNIVAL unless you plan on leaving your kids at home. You'd have to take out high insurance for your lost and damaged bags and medical needs and need a strong stomach for the things we had to see. Out of all the lines we have cruised Royal Caribbean is such a higher class people, and they seem to care about your kids and they have wonderful cuisine.

We would never ever cruise Carnival even if it were free, and this was costly in so many ways. What a waste of 7 thousand dollars and 8 nights of our life that we will never get back. DO NOT CRUISE CARNIVAL IF YOU VALUE YOUR KIDS AND YOUR HEALTH AND MENTAL STATE!

It is sad to sit here and write about how HORRIBLE our vacation was, but in doing so I hope to save someone else from the terrible time we had on the Carnival Spirit. We took an 8 day cruise with our children, and our grandchildren and out of the 4 cruises we have taken this was the most expensive and the worst of them all. Our ship was well enough, as ships go. The rooms were decent in size but smelled. They were musty and looked old. Two of our bathrooms flooded by a pipe breaking in the wall and then we had to live with the moldy smell that we realized must have been there all along as this must happen often. Our cabin Stewart never even introduced himself until the 3rd night and we did not see him again until the last night when he came to collect the beach towels that they offer you to use. We were not impressed at all with the room service as on two mornings it took an hour just to get my morning coffee, which by that time I was ready to leave my room. The room service food was barely good enough to be served in the school lunch room and that is saying a lot. The midnight buffet was pretty sure.. but smelled so gross that I can't imagine anyone ate this stuff. The dining service was so slow, and you never got what you wanted until after 2 times asking for the right thing, which was usually cold or just gross. The entertainment was a joke, with sound problems and dancers simulating sex on a floor and on a bed during an event that is called a "family show", The cruise director was an idiot and plain rude! We had VIP tickets to get off first so w could look for our lost luggage and this jerk actually announced to the other people waiting..,. to sit back and let the beautiful people off first.. again saying it and then adding yes the rich and the beautiful must go first,,, have a seat everyone else!! We were so embarrassed and sick about this man's mans attempt at humor! My daughter in law had two bags missing for two days then one showed up, we were told it was delivered to the wrong room, but the other pc. of luggage never did show up, and the Purser could care less! She had to complain daily and they really just blew her off telling her to file an insurance claim when she got home. What a nightmare that was. THEY LOST OUR LUGGAGE AND COULD CARE LESS!AS FOR FAMILIES: Our poor grandkids were stuck doing NOTHING! This is their 3rd cruise so they knew just what they wanted to do, until they got there and realized the kids camp was a joke. The 12 year old would have been lumped with 17 year olds, which was too much of a range for a little girl to be with 17 year old boys... and all they had for them to do was sit into a disco during the day and hang out. The one time on the 3rd ay that we walked her down there to check it out, we encountered two set of teens making out on a couch.... this is the 3rd day for goodness sake! It was amazing that there was no supervision at all! The poor 9 year old... well.... no that was really sad... they had activities planned all across the ship but the child is responsible for getting there each time. So they end one thing, then leave without rounding up kids, and our grand son got lost the first day and cried to the purser who sat him in the BAR Lounge and called our room, which we were not in, and we happened to walk by and saw him there un-attended by people drinking and smoking. They explained that although an adult plans the activity they do not actually watch the kids and they can leave at any time even if you do not want them to have free time they tell them to take off when they are in-between things to do. So then we had the 7 year old... oh my... this tiny little room was full of kid coughing and wheezing and our grandson got bit the first day and it drew blood. but no-one even attempted to call us. They were not even apologetic. The room was dirty and a germ cesspool... so none of these kids had activities and it was all very poor. Nothing like the RCI Vision of the seas kids club... which was top notch and the only ship these kids would ever consider again. The DO NOT HAVE A KIDS POOL, the pools are all 4 feet deep so if a smaller kid wants to swim, he will have to brave the heavy waves and hold onto he side. Oh and this slide... my goodness. they first of all do not put in enough water, which leaves burn marks as you go down, but it does not even go into a pool, it goes into a wall and you have to climb out. My grandson fell down the slippery steps of the pool and had to go to the infirmary and spend two days in his cabin healing. There is no supervision on the other side (the end) of the slide or cruise workers is very, very un-safe. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT FAMILIES OR KIDS, IT IS A TOTAL PARTY SHIP!THE PORTS: Of course Acapulco was nice, and we found a tour guide to stay with us for the entire day and rive us anywhere we wanted for $10.00 per person. He drove a brand new Suburban with a/c and spoke wonderful English. Just keep walking away from the ship as the offers get cheaper and cheaper. We even went to Wal-Mart to replace some items from the lost luggage, and then to a great place to eat called Zapittos?, and even stopped to get haircuts at an $5. per person salon. Now IXTAPA was a little different, we actually (like fools) paid the $50 per person for the Island Getaway snorkel tour. First of all you have to pay $10. more when you get there for the snorkel gear, and the bus ride was not air conditioned... well it was if you sat up front but the air did not work in the middle to the back. Then the place they take you to after the bus, and a small stinky fish boat ride away, is this beach that has FILTHY water. All the oils from the boats and grease fill up the shore and you are expected to snorkel in that. They do not net off the shore or an area for you to go into and my son got stung by a jellyfish then thrown into rocks with sea archents that left huge quills in his legs. My granddaughter got bit my something.. not sure what but it left a hole in her thigh and the worst of it was there was no a clean bathroom, just a little shack of what used to have toilets that had a few inches of human waste on the floor right where you walk in... so amazingly gross that my daughter in law threw up and could not stop crying over the condition of what she stepped in. last of all MANZINILLO, what a dirty gross and smelly port this was. Even the crew said they never get off there because the crime and filth is so bad. You pay $3.50 to take a shuttle bus (with no a/c) about two blocks and they drop you where the shopping district is all local stores, no one wants to deal and everything is over-priced. So all in all STAY AWAY FROM CARNIVAL!!!! Read Less
