The cruise itinerary was fine. We planned our own excursions. Caribbean Princess is a little tired, but we know that when we booked. The beds and bedding were new and great. The bathroom tiles are old but all edges and corners in shower have been resealed so there is no mold. All staff members, especially our room steward, were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was terrible. The main fruit on the buffet was watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew, and chunks of the of the same which was okay, but no variety. How about peaches, plums, cherries, grapes, nectarines? Same fruit served In the main dining room for dessert. No variety in vegetables either. Mostly carrots. No asparagus, beets, Brussel sprouts. Food wasn't seasoned either. Nothing really tasted great and made you want to eat more. I actually lost weight on this cruise. I am a dessert person and usually order two. I didn't even finish the desserts I ordered except the Crème Brule. Actually, the best thing were the chocolate chip cookies. When the best thing they highlight is a 24 hour cereal bar, and a peanut butter and jelly station, you know something is wrong. Honestly, I don't think we had very many children on this cruise, if any. We cruised on Princess 7 years ago and it was the best. The food was wonderful and I was looking forward to the molten chocolate dessert that I can still remember. I ordered it every night, it was that good. They don't offer that any longer. Read Less

We sailed out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and since we live in Florida we didn't go until time to board the ship, the Caribbean Princess. We were celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Our cabin was nice but not as large as some others we've had, but we did have a nice balcony so that made up for the size of the cabin. Our cabin steward Wilson was attentive. We were treated great! The entertainment was very good in all the locations that we went to. Our waiter RONALD SADIA and his assistant IRENE KOUACH were WONDERFUL, the best ever in all our cruising. The nightly entertainment was good and I played BINGO most days. We went to many of the lounges for entertainment also. The service and all the staff were very attentive to our needs. The Ports were good, and the excursions we choose were interesting. Going to Normandy was the most moving day for us, very emotional experience. What a wonderful trip and then we got to spend an additional three weeks in England. Great 50th! Will go again. Read Less

On April my husband, Paul and I flew from SFO to Ft. Lauderdale for a Transatlantic cruise on the Caribbean Princess. We would travel on a repositioning cruise across the Atlantic to the British Isles. On May 2nd we stopped at Porto Delgado for the day. I had a little gas, I guessed from over eating. The ship sailed at 4:00pm. The ship sailed for the British Isles we expected to have two more sea days with fun, entertainment and good food. As the gas pain progressed I visited the ship medical center at about 4:30. They quickly took a blood test and found I had appendicitis. The standard plan today is not to operate, but use heavy IV antibiotics. The first does was administered. I was told to return at 9:00am for another dose. This dosage would be twice a day until reaching Great Britain. The wonderful South African Doctor on staff did warn me this was quite serious. At 2:00am the pain was strong. In returning to the Medical center I was treated by two doctors and two nurses with X-ray and more antibiotics IV. X-ray was taken and found not to be ruptured. The doctors contacted the Captain for full speed ahead to GB. This 2 day trip could be shortened to 24 hours. I felt the doctors were confident this could work. After the X-ray, I am aware when the appendix ruptured. Morphine was added to the drip and the Captain was again called. He decided to turn the ship around and full speed to Porto Delgado, Azores which would be a shorter journey. Time is somewhat inaccurate in my head during these predicaments but we now have 6 Medical staff and many other crew members watching over me. A Zagorski Military Helicopter was to pick me up in a basket, off the top deck of the ship and airlift me to Porto Delgado. A massive amount of crew members stood by my side from all sectors of the ship along with my wonderful medical staff. Especially the cheery blond nurse from South Africa who always had a smile during my darkest hour. Soon the helicopter was above us. With my entourage, trained and helpful crew we worked our way to the rainy deck. My husband and I with orange life vests on....safety first; headed for the ride of our lives. Having been placed in the basket and a Porto Delgado rescue operator in tow we rose on, what seemed to me to be a very small cord to the helicopter. My husband joined us next with two small bags. I have no memory of the 1 hour ride back into this small port city, but was quickly transported to the hospital. It would appear this took four hours from rupture discovery to surgery. The care given at the Porto Delgado Hospital was excellent. The recovery is long and uncomfortable, but because of the quick acting crew of the Caribbean Princess and their Captain, I am still here to tell the story. Luckily we purchased trip insurance. WHAT TRIP INSURANCE IS COVERING Packing belonging left on ship and sending them home. FedEx laptop left on ship home immediately. Ship hospital stay and full assistance from professional staff. Helicopter ride. Hospital stay in Porto Delgado and surgery. Cancellation of prearranged air transportation home from London at end of trip. Time in hospital as not yet been determined. Booking of last flight home from Azores. Reduction in original cruise pricing. People have been traveling these seas since earliest of time. My forefathers were all sea captains from Maine. They were ALL lost at sea. People die at home as well. Keep on sailing it is part of our heritage, Princess just perfected the process. Captain of the Caribbean Princes, we haven't met, but thank you for my life. Read Less
