Embarkation was a disastrous experience. There must a way to divide the passengers into groups with different time slots. It will definitely prevent queuing for more than two and a half hours. Some of the elderly people did find difficult to stand that long. Disembarkation was much easier. The worst experience, however, was that we were left in the dark regarding docking. The captain should have kept the passengers informed with regard to problems that made it impossible to enter the port in Cape Town. The people on land were sometimes better informed than us. The ship itself was clean and the majority of the staff friendly and very helpful. Our cabin was clean and the up-keeping was outstanding. The service provided by Mr Putu was outstanding. He was also very helpful in regards to stuff that was not part of his job. The food, entertainment and other activities was excellent. I would have liked it more if I would have been able to sit where-ever I want during dinner. It should be handled in the same way as during breakfast and lunch. I would do it again. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we had done the trip up to Mozambique from Durban twice before, and felt like a change of departure city, ship and itinerary. We felt like the ship was overcrowded, way to few seating in the buffet area and pool decks. No system to keep order and no assistance with children or babies in the buffet area. Being pushed an bumped while trying to get a meal for my baby was very frustrating & tedious. Often there was no disinfectant at the entrance to the buffet. But the food was tasty and plentiful stocked, with good friendly service from the staff. Our cabin was a good size for us and our son, also clean and neat (except it didn't have hand soap by the basin in the bathroom. Our experience with our cabin and staff was good. But the last 2 nights (which were unexpected and unplanned due to winds and not being able to go back into the harbor) our sleeper couch was not set up, the mini bar was locked and it felt like the service had just gone on hold- very disappointing. We felt like the itinerary was not nearly as fun and exciting as our previous trips. Previously there was themed deck party's or even themed days- here there was non. Only some games during the hottest time of the day- but also just to busy to even try. The dj music was overly repeated, monotonous and not from all genres/ cultures. Our son went to baby club as he is under 3. He loved it completely and I can commend Gouwe his 'teacher" for her time, love and patience with him & the other kids. We felt like the location of the baby club was rather silly, as it was out side on the top deck, by what felt like the windiest area. Collecting was a mission on the windy days as even opening the door was a great task. As our son was in baby club, he only got 3 sessions a day at an hour at a time, we were very disappointed and frustrated to learn on the one morning that the 'teacher' was scheduled to do a safety drill during our ONE hour. I'm sure they could have done it at a time that she was not on duty per the schedule or the day we were on shore. The shore day ran smoothly, we got a taxi to a near by yacht club and enjoyed our time there before returning to the ship with out hassles or delays. I managed to use the gym facilities twice and really enjoyed it. Enough equipment and good aircon. We thouroughly enjoyed Melvin from the cigar lounge and Giovvani from the bar in the buffet area. They were always friendly, made an effort with us and went the extra mile. Lastly, we are aware that it was out of the ship and crews control that we had to stay the extra 2 days and nights due to strong winds. But what we were not happy about was the lack of communicationfrom the bridge. We feel like they knew on the thursday morning already that we would only be able to go in on the saturday morning- yet they kept us on a line until Friday evening. We lived out of our bag for this time as we were unsure when we would be disembarking, hoping any minute. Had they just told us from the begining what the plan was- we could have moved all our post-cruise plans acordingly, unpacked and relaxed. We could feel the tension of both the guests and the staff because we felt like we were left in the dark. Unfortunately we will not be doing a local cruise with MSC again, and would also not likely recommend the trip to friends or family. Read Less

Me and my husband was going to go on the cruise to celebrate his birthday. Unfortunately he passed away suddenly in October. I was going to cancel but my daughter insist the two of us must still go. I'm so glad I went, it was the best way to honour his memory and to go create new memories for myself and try to heal the wounds. For a week I could get pass my pain and sorrows. The entertainment and Activities was great the Theatre was absolutely stunning I loved every minute of it. The MC has a fabulous personality. Everything was amazing the two extra days was a bargain. The staff is awesome they really go out of their way to keep passengers happy. The only negative thing is the waiting to get off the ship. Sitting around wasting time. Would love to do it again its an experience you can't explain. Read Less

I was invited by a friend to tag along. Was my first cruise. The staff/crew were extremely friendly and helpful. A wider variety of cocktails should be made available. I had a cocktail booklet and it was very limited. As far is the photographs are concerned....excellent photographers but the photographs are just not affordable. Whilst we are aware these are based on dollar exchange you need to take cognisance that the majority of the passengers were South African and particularly Capetonian. I think it was such a waste to destroy such beautiful photographs which I could not afford. Please look at making your photographs more affordable in order for more people to purchase. The shows were excellent and there was always something to do. Despite our docking was delayed by two days due to strong winds....the show continued. The food was amazing and staff always friendly and very hospitable. I would recommend the cruise anytime. Read Less

This was my 3rd cruise with MSC. The Ship is well Maintained. Very neat and clean and well looked after. The entertainment crew were friendly and good. The barmen in the Cigar Lounge were very friendly and helpful. The crew at the Spa were friendly and very good. I was lucky to meet the Manager and I could congrats him with his staff. The crew at the outside bar, reception and restaurants were unfriendly. The willing to help were not there. They looked like they hate there jobs. My suitcase was damaged. The team that take in the suitcases at night don't keep people that was sleeping in mind. The also not friendly at all and throw the luggage. When I reported my damaged suitcase, there were more people with the same complain. We book for the 1st seating in restaurant, but on our cards we were booked for second seating. They just told us they cannot change that. On deck 13 there were "Call for bar service buttons". Nothing happens when pressing it. (I tried more than once) Don't know why they put it on the tables. We had an bad incident at the entertainment area and need security, but they were not in site. Maybe they must be more visible on all decks. People from other tables saw what happened and helped me. The food was great and the variety more than enough. Thanks to all the hardworking guys in the kitchen! We wait very long for the food in the evening, but is was worthwhile! The rows to embarkation were not flow for a very long time. People wait to long in rows and in the sun. Disembarkation and embarkation in Walvisbay went very smooth and quick. The Disembarkation in Cape Town also go very quick and smooth. I would like to book again for the 2020 cruise with the hope that I experience the same hospitality that I experience on the Rapsody and the Melody and not the unfriendly hospitality that we received on the Musica. Well where to start with this one ! I have been on a number of cruises and decided to include one on my recent visit to South Africa, bad choice as this cruise was easily the worst I have ever been on. Too much went wrong to detail everything but I'll have a go. Embarkation at Cape Town was a nightmare. We had to wait 3.5 hrs to board. We had to q up in a deserted shell of a warehouse covered in birds dropping with no facilities, no water, no info from crew, a terrible start to any holiday. Food was of a very low standard, both in the 24x7 cafeteria and the restaurant evening meals. Fine dining it was not, cold soup and badly presented, small food portions, a good way to lose weight ! The service throughout the ship was really poor. Crew did not seem to care and the ones that did were vastly overworked, IE large bar areas took about 20 mins to get a drink as only 1 bar person on duty. This was the norm, it looked as though there were not enough staff on the ship to cope with the crowds of people. The ship seemed rammed with people who mostly camped out in the 24 x 7 cafeteria eating all day. As a consequence it was a nightmare trying to get a a) food and b) a table to sit at during breakfast and lunch. The South Africans on board just camped out there for the day eating. The staff were not that helpful either when you asked them to help you get a table, total chaos ! Hand sanitisers at each restaurant door were either not working or empty. There was no effort made by the crew to make sure every person entering the eating areas sanitised their hands, its a wonder we didn't have a food poisoning outbreak on board. I could go on and on but I am sure you get my drift as to the type of cruise this was. To me it was one small step up from a booze cruise. It was so bad that the Europeans on board demanded a meeting with the Senior staff. We had a meeting in one of the lounges with the Hotel Manager, Customer Relations manager, Second in command to the Captain and the Housekeeping Manager. There were about 200 to 300 hundred irate people complaining to them, BTW the Captain was a no show throughout the cruise not even a tannoy announcement from him. We complained about the service, meals, sanitisation and other items but I felt theses fell on deaf ears. One thing that was said was that the cruises are planned for the local market and they obviously felt the SA people on board were happy with what I would say was a 3 star Spanish hotel experience. They did say that for Europe they upgraded the experience and for North America upgraded even higher. This was a cruise that should have not been sold to Europeans as the standard was deliberately low to match the local market. We asked for compensation but I'm not sure if anything will happen, just make sure if you ever cruise with MSC you dont do it tin South Africa , in fact choose another cruise company entirely. I choose it to relax, which I definitelydid. The dining service was beyond excellent especially the waiters named Anga and Rikki from Indonesia.( Dining on the 6th floor) The staff on the whole always helpful and friendly. Marco was the best when it came to entertainment on the 13 floor. Overall the entertainment staff were top notch. The live music was excellent and the shows too. Room service regarding cleaning was top notch. Food was excellent except for the juice they served at breakfast on the 5th floor was terrible. the kiddies room was awesome and the ladies working in it. The cleaning staff impressed me , at the rate the deck and dining rooms were kept clean. Embarkment was not to wonderful but also not too bad from the South African side. Cabin wise , i feel some of the furniture could be removed since it fills the room and not really needed. Overall it was an excellent cruise and awesome experience. I will definitely go on more cruise. Read Less

This was our 3rd time with msc and have never been impressed with them, but chose this cruise for the itinerary It is a very nice ship but the organisation is abismal, lack of communication, public areas not very clean, toilets often dirty and no toilet paper.Poor choice of food, small portions and overall not very good. If you are using the public toilets make sure you there is toilet paper in there! ! The cabin was small but OK, the cabin steward was excellent, nothing was too much trouble, he was very polite. He kept the cabin spotlessly clean. Embarkation was chaotic and that is putting it mildly.Queues in the reception .We area were always long and slow moving. We were very lucky to have an excellent waiter in the the restaurant but not everyone was so lucky. There is an obvious lack of training in the staff. If all staff were adequately trained it would make a big difference. Definitely will not go by Msc again. Read Less

We had a wonderful time aboard the Musica. All the staff from cleaning yo management were friendly, helpful and made us feel at home. Our cabin was cosy and regulary cleaned for us. The ship overall is huge with plenty of activities to prevent anyone from becoming bored. We mostly enjoyed the live music in the lounges and the theatre every night. The food was top notch, one didnt have the time to get hungry because there was always something to nibble between meal times and all meals were of excellent quality. My family and i are already looking forward to our next MSC cruise in the upcoming months . Embarkation took about just over two hours, which was a bit long but thats probably due to the volume of people getting off and on the ship. Well done MSC. Keep up the good work and see you soon :) :) Read Less

My husband and I enjoyed getting away together, leaving the teenagers at home and having time to spend reconnecting after a difficult year. We had booked Easy Onboard and this made embankment easy. I am visually impaired and found that I was constantly offered assistance by staff experienced in giving aid with dignity. The staff was fantastic, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed visiting Swakopmund for an all too brief visit. The desert is beautiful and the German ambience of Swakopmund was charming. We spent much of our time on our balcony watching the sea and enjoying the sun and sunsets. It was sheltered from the wind and very comfortable. The piano, jazz music and vocalists in the bars enhanced the experience. We enjoyed a day at the Spa, relaxing in the thermal area and enjoying a massage and facial. Gale force winds meant our cruise was extended a few days waiting for the harbor master to allow us to dock. Even in these difficult circumstances the staff remained cheerful and kind and the entertainment continued. During this time we soaked in the beautiful sight of Table Mountain, Sea Point and Camps Bay. We plan to cruise again next year. Read Less

Wanted to experience the Musica compared to others. Disembarkment in CT was a disasteras there was no discipline and people left the ship even though they were expected to wait.People smoke in non smoker areas with a sign above her head in the casino and they take drinks inti the theatre and nobody does anything,so instilling discipline of officials is zero.No Italian dress up evening as they dont want to offend people .Nonsense it has always been a choice but it was nice just to wear Red ,Green and White. Children in jacuzzis ( outside school holidays) and then adults cant get a chance .Children of 3 and 5 unattended in jacuzzi.Father is 15m away.MSC needs to instill discipline to make it pleasant for all. Deck entertainment needs a mature person from RSA to head up the entertainment. This year juniors who had no clue ran the games and a Italian who does not South Africans.. Besides these negatives the service was excellent and so was the food.Reception ,dining and bars were a pleasure to attend. MSC Voyager help desk attendee had no interest in helping. Dissappointed in his attitude. I asked him what specials are they talking about for members and he said .Read the daily program which has nothing to do with it.SPECIAL mention: Prisco Fernandes,Thobeka Ntshangase and Carmine Di Fiore in dining room,Vanmali Sandeep in watch store;eddiesen Lobo in barand Stella Andriambelo cabin stewart. NOTHING was too much trouble for them. RECOMMENDATION : You must lie in the International waters for a day and only enter the harnbour the next morning as the view of Table Mountain in the morning and at night with Robben Eiland on the other side is breathtaking and worth paying extra for.Best part of our trip. You must buy Easy on board as it takes you 15 min no matter when you arrive. The shows every night before dinner were great and the entertainment outside on deck was excellent. All staff were friendly and always greeted. Thank you for informing us about the seniors discount. My friend and I decide to go on a cruise for my 60th birthday, she never been on a cruise thus a new experience for her. On our arrival our cabin was clean and ready for us to occupy. Everything was clean and nothing to really complaint about everything was to our satisfaction. The food was good and even thou we stayed two days on board longer because of the weather that did not allow us to dock at Cape Town port the crew make great food with what was available. Most of the crew was very friendly and what stand out are the people servicing us during dinner and after dinner coffee. Phila Khamrang was very friendly and her service excellent, with her our food servicer Putu Darsana was very kind and helpful; both were very friendly and kind. Most of the personal in the dinner room was professional and friendly. The lady that served us our after dinner coffee was the best Tanuj Deeno and is excellent in what she is doing. We made some awesome friends and had a fantastic time. The music was a blast and we went to the disco and it was really like the old age home coming out and we all had so much fun with the most awesome music. We loved all the shows not one stands out as they were all of a very good quality and very entertaining. During our extra stay everyone was very helpful explaining the situation not being able to go into the port and was very professional in helping us all with travel arrangements etc. I love eating in the dining room we were seated at table 516 and had an awesome time. The food was tasty and the portions sensible size. The 24 hour dining facility was not really to our liking the coffee taste horrible but if one thinks how many people go through constantly the fast foods was hot and available. I found the duty free shops to be extremely expensive but I travel a lot and it seems duty free is more expensive these days maybe because people think it should be cheaper. The day tour to Swakopmund was very over priced for that price they could have supply the passengers a light meal, we only had a hour in Swakopmund and was nearly late - we went out late. For cost they could make it a day tour. Overall Wonderful Cruise!! Read Less

I wanted the experience of sailing into Walvis Bay and seeing desert meet ocean. The day trip was perfect 4x4 adventure. The cruise sailed out of Cape Town ..spectacular views from verandah cabin. Heavy fog made 2nd night interesting with vessels horn blasting into the night. Strong headwinds gave us some rough cruising on way back to Cape Town. We had delays getting back into the harbour due to the howling Southeaster but the 2 days extra at sea was handled well by the crew. MSC MUSICA is a large vessel so long queues at all times. Deck space limited. The Restuarants were honestly a disaster and waiters way out of their depth. I gave up and decided to order room service instead. Two dishes for $5 plus service not bad. Ate in the peace of my cabin and able to keep abreast of news on TV. Loved the spa package giving me full access and two treatments. Booked pre boarding and saved. Read Less

I struggle to say something positive about my 12 day cruise. Embarkation should have warned us what to expect,3 and a half hours in a filthy smelly derelict warehouse with no water or toilets and NO MSC STAFF The staff are demotivated and disorganised very few taking any pride in their work No one listened to anything you asked or said The ship is just waiting for a outbreak of norovirus There was a pile of vomit on the floor staff ignored it for over half an hour No hygiene standards,no hand cleaner at dining areas until the final day Toilets often dirty and floors wet no toilet attendants and often not even toilet paper We left Capetown with virtually no South African wine the food was very poor quality and some of the waiting staff actually apologised for what they were serving When we complained about the standard of cleaning and food we were told by guest relations that the S.A. guests have much lower standards than British which I found really insulting as I am half South African. We have done back to back cruises on other lines and have never had exactly the same menu( which wasn't good the first time),and the same entertainment (which we did enjoy the first time, not so much the second and third) repeated. This was 3 4 day back to back cruises so we had the same meals and entertainment 3 times in 12 days it was like having a recurrent nightmare Read Less

Having cruised on MSC numerous times, both locally and internationally this cruise was way below the standard i have come to expect. Embarkation was a nightmare, as people queued outside the terminal with no direction from cruise staff and pushed and forced their way in terminal once the doors opened, which almost resulted in a stampede as well as a few curse words between passengers. We had also requested the first dinner seating which was confirmed on the cruse ticker=t, however on boarding we had been given a second seating, despite having booked over a year ago and being a Gold MSC voyagers member. Pool deck seems really cluttered and the design and bars on the ship are not the most appealing. This was my first cruise. It wasn’t well organised. On arrival nobody assisted us with anything. We were left to wonder the ship figuring things out for ourselves. Some things we only found out towards the end of the cruise. One of us fell ill on board, only to be informed they were sold out of meds. Sold out!? During the cruise dinner arrangements were really poor. Our designated table was taken and we had no seats. Nobody assisted and we weren’t permitted to use another table or restaurant. We were left to order (and pay for) room service and to use the specialty restaurant (and pay for that too). When asking reception for anything they were just plain rude and arrogant. Embarkation incolved standing in a queue for three hours watching buses of guests, presumably booked by travel agents, being given priority boarding. Yes we tried purchasing easy on board beforehand, only to be told they’re sold out. After a day, the cruise couldn’t be over quickly enough. This trip ruined cruises for us and we will never, ever do it again. Not even for free, it was that bad. Read Less

The dining and entertainment varieties were my highlight and not to mention the luxury of the balcony cabins. You will never regret booking with MSC they offer exceptional overall service for a 3* cruise ship. It was fantastic to experience a variety of cultures and cuisines. My only concern was their lack of security cameras in important guest areas like the bag drop department. This should be re-evaluated. Amazing crew, amazing staff. The cruise was a pre-birthday gift from my wife in anticipation of my 50th birthday anniversary. This was indeed a birthday gift that will be treasured and valued as we journey on our path of life. So much looking forward to the next trip because of the excellent entertainment, hospitality and ambience on deck. The balcony cabin was well appointed and the view and experience amazing. Cabins were cleaned on a regular basis and service always came with a smile. I just loved the interaction and entertainment provided by the entertainment crew. The cruise was breathtaking, the facilities was admirable and entertainment mind blowing which contributed to the greatest holiday ever. My wife and I indeed had an absolute awesome and magnificent experience on the Musica. We solute Heart 104.9 & MSC Musica for affording us this awesome experience. If we could be in two places at the same time, believe us, it would definitely be with Heart and MSC Musica because you Rock. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we really enjoyed it. The only problem that I encounter was on deck 7....I would suggest that all entries to the Casino to closed at all time. The Casino is a smoking area and is opposite the theatre. When gaining access to the theatre from Deck 7 children and non-smokers are expose to those smoke fumes from the Casino side. Other that, my first cruise was awesome and definitely cruise again and also will recommend cruising to my friends and family. Dining (1st seating deck 5) was excellence and on time. Here i must mention that the friendly waiters did really good job in serving us. All the meals ordered was correct the first time. However, better control should be enforce at the restaurant on deck 13. This restaurant was well below the standards in comparison with the other restaurants. All the info about all event was readily available thanks to our Cabin steward. Read Less
