i have been on this cruise before and had the time of my life, needless to say this time round i had told all my friends and family join, we were about 21, adults and kids. I had elderly members in my group who had never traveled, now they get to enjoy the cruise and its luxuries with their kids and grand kids. I was to celebrate my daughters 1st and nieces 3rd birthday on board or so we planned. I know you cant control the weather so when we received text message no 5 after our cruise had a 2 day delay due to gale force winds we were still excited to make the most of our holiday. We were told to be in Cape Towns port by 8am the Saturday morning (26th January) for a swift embarkation, unfortunately i spent all of 4 hours in the line with a restless kid in arm. By the time i eventually got onto the ship the halal buffet was anorexic with almost nothing available. The water was choppy but the ship was trying to make up as much time as possible, at one point i thought we were a speed boat, my entire party suffered from vertigo, mostly on the first night. Supper was mediocre and we didn't get a Gala evening. Our waiters seemed exhausted and unwilling to assist, not normally the case in my past experiences. I was on the melody, an extinct and ancient ship for 19 days in 2011 and had the time of my life, this cruise was supposed to be top all my expectations but was an anti climax. We didnt stop in Port Elizabeth and got into Durban earlier than expected. on the brink of disembarkation i was told that i could not leave the ship because i had an outstanding balance on my account. i had to head back to reception where there was a 40 min line because of all the queries passengers had. They billed me $1.50 per person for a UNICEF donation. This should be optional and not a prerequisite payment before you leave the ship. I donate to my own organisations and how the hell do i know that MSC actually gives my money to UNICEF. based on this they removed my charges and i was allowed to leave the ship almost an hour later... If one pays for a luxury experience especially for leisure and relaxation purposes especially if you saving and looking forward to it for months. Its a complete let down when you utilized your annual leave or savings for a trip and us as consumers gets the short end of the stick.. MSC just picks up more people in Durban and can start fresh giving them an ultimate experience. Instead of them cancelling the trip in totality because it would cost the company an arm or a leg, this trip was a taxi service to Durban because you inevitably had to go there as part of your itinerary. The passengers were dragged along for the speedy and bumpy ride and all you can do is compensate us with a lousy 20% on our next cruise excluding service and port charges...HOW IS THAT WORTH IT? do you classify that as compensation for my inconvenience and disappointment? IM BEYOND GUTTED! Read Less

We were expecting a relaxing leisurely cruise from CT to Durban. Due to wind the cruise was shortened by two days. In our experience not enough was done from the side of MSC to ensure the least discomfort for passengers. Firstly we were informed by SMS to be at the harbor at 8am and that embarkation would start promptly afterwards. Queuing for nearly five hours apparently due to the lengthy disembarkation of passengers on board was a nightmare. This could have been avoided had MSC taken the trouble to inform passengers beforehand that embarkation would be delayed. Staff were not always very helpful when assistance was needed with changing of flights and hotel reservations due to the late arrival in Durban. Ship phones were out of order and cellphone reception was poor. Prepaid wine packages (For 2 days instead of 4) were not refundable. Selection of wines on Wine packages was limited due to stock shortages according to staff. Shortage of cool drinks & beverages.. No information has been forthcoming from MSC regarding refund of shortened trip. All in all it was a rushed stressful experience spending more time in ques and sorting out travel arrangements instead of relaxing. In conclusion we feel that the trip should have been cancelled and similar cruises should have been scheduled at later dates. Read Less

The 2 day delay resulted in a lot of disorganization and a feeling of being rushed, which wasn't relaxing. Embarking took 5 hours, and was very uncomfortable. Service was good by some, but really rude by others. The fruit juice served with breakfast was terrible. The coffee wasn't much better. Some meals were good, others were very poor. I didn't appreciate having to pay 15% service fee on everything, even when I fetched my own drinks from the bar. The delay in confirming our new arrival time in Durban meant that we incurred costs to change flight times. We tried to claim for the additional costs, but the claim was not accepted. I think this is very unfair. There is very little management of the Jacuzzis, and they were overcrowded and dominated by certain people for the majority of the time. The queues at reception were always long, resulting in holiday time being wasted in order to sort things out e.g. cruise card not working. Read Less

I embarked from Cape Town and unfortunately had a bit of a tough time with the weather so our cruise was delayed by two days. This however is not anyone's fault and totally understand MSC's reasoning for not embarking on the 24th. We only embarked the 26th January. Embarkation is a very long and tedious process. The waiting before going on board is crazy and very tiring. The ship is so beautiful. The staff on board is very welcoming and cheerful. I loved seeing a mixed diversity of people from all over the World. It was lovely interacting with staff who is willing to chat to you about their life on board, their country and culture and just about general things as well. Whenever I passed a staff member, they would greet with a friendly hello and smile :) The cabin I stayed in was okay however I was VERY disappointed to find a filthy used pair of underwear that didn't belong to myself or the person I shared the room with. I assume that the staff didn't clean correctly as there was a bit of a rush on the 26th. This shouldn't have been missed though. It was nasty and makes me question if the sheets were even changed. My dietary requirement is halaal and I was very disappointed to see the sad selection of halaal food in the buffet section on deck 13. There is a wide variety of halaal food that could have been catered for. Curry is not the only halaal food. In future, I would like to see a bigger variety of food in the halaal section :) Evening dinner was okay. We had a great waiter (Kurniawan). He was so helpful when selecting our meals. He was really friendly as well. The entertainment really blew me away from the shows in the theater to the live bands in the lounges to the daily activities on deck 13. Very impressed by the MSC's entertainment staff as well. They really know how to get the crowd hyped up and they make sure everyone is having fun. The service onboard was great! The receptionists were really helpful with whatever questions I had and they were very professional. We did some shopping onboard and each shop we went to we were greeted with smiles and good customer service. I purchased a spa package before embarkation and it's totally worth it! The masseuse, Maria, was so lovely and so good at her job. She made me feel comfortable and very relaxed. The spa facilities are great! The sauna and Turkish baths are amazing and so relaxing. 100% would recommend! Unfortunately, we booked a shore excursion for PE but it was canceled due to missing a few days on the boat so we never got to experience a sore excursion :( I would definitely cruise with MSC again. It was an enjoyable experience being onboard the MSC Musica. Read Less

We started planning this trip in May 2018, we booked in June 2018. We planned a holiday around this trip. First we flew down from Johannesburg on the 21st January, we explored Cape Town and did a few excursions which went very well. This was our first time on a cruise and we were very excited after reading a lot of reviews and feedback from other people who have done the trip. The start was not so good due to the wind and the boat not being able to enter the harbor, but eventually on Saturday we could board. Off we started exploring the boat after if left the harbor. We ended up in the spa area and seeing that we booked in advance the massages we decided to go for our massage the same day, we booked for 16H30. We went to our cabin to prepare and went for the Jacuzzi inside the spa area which we though we could use any time during the cruise, well the next day we were told we used our day and it was only valid for the day, not like it was mentioned for the whole trip. We also planned for the 4 days and bought drinks packages in advance, this could not be returned and had to drink 3 drink packages in two days. The rest of the trip was good, really enjoyed it will however recommend not to purchase packages in advance it works out cheaper when you buy onboard. The cocktails being served was also not well prepared and brought in a normal plastic glass, it was not presented as I expected of a cocktail. Read Less

We are pensioner couple on our FIRST cruise ever. We were so excited before trip but the reality soon set in when we were told the ship would be 2days late docking in CTown and hence cruise cut short by 2 days . Embarkation was very busy but ok and delayed due to passengers still getting off. Our cabins were very nice and clean . However we were angry when we were only told on the last day that the ship would arrive 7 hours late and we still had to disembark. We could not get any internet signal and spent hours in the cyber room without sucess to try and get new flights scheduled . The final day was spent standing and waiting in queues at reception for use of the only phone . They told us expenses in the delay in Durban would be covered . We never saw a show due to the fiasco of waiting . The evening meals were of a poor quality and quantity . The reception was understaffed and very stressed We disembarked in Durban and had to find our own way to get a hotel and later we learned that all flights to Cape town were booked up for 2 days . So we were stuck in Durban hotel. OVERALL IT WAS A GREAT DISSAPOINTMENT for us oldies especially when our claims for expenses in Durban were later declined. Such a waste !!! Read Less

The food was poor compared to previous cruises. The bar service was slow and the quality of the cocktails was inconsistent. The cabins were very comfortable and clean. The embarkation process was a circus. Having been told to get to the terminal early, we were then told to sit and wait. No refreshments were offered and the shore based personnel became fractious and rude. While the delay in the ship arriving was not MSC's fault, I believe they should have been far more forthcoming with apologies, gestures and financial compensation. People were just dumped at hotels and had to fend for themselves. The insurance cover was not explained clearly and I know there are going to be some very angry guests who ended spending way more than R1250 per person in accommodation, meals, transport and drinks. The 50% refund on the cruise and 20% discount on a future cruise just doesn't go far enough. Read Less

We loved the various lounges & bar areas for relaxation & good music. The dining sittings in the restaurant caters for everyones needs & the staff serving guests with a smile & then having the opportunity to meet wonderful people at the table we share with. Our highlight the sushi restaurant (my favourite). Our balcony cabin for two very spacious & clean..the staff (& that includes everyone) very friendly & helpful at all times & they work long hours daily. Its also fantastic on the pool deck soaking up the sun & having fun with activities organised by the entertainment team. Its your lucky day if you win something. The shows in the theatre outstanding!!!Professionalism beyond words! The cruise overall is too much to see & do & theres too little time..definitely another cruise planned for the future.. Read Less

Choose this as a first time cruise to explore other cruises. Thought that four days from Cape Town via Port Elizabeth too Durban would be a great test of the waters so to speak. Ended up frustrated at late departure due to high winds preventing scheduled departure. More annoying was the lack of communication from MSC regarding anticipated departure as well as impact delay would make on arrival as we had already booked a return flight to Cape Town. Instead we had to rely on mixed messages from on board passengers on social media. Even the travel agent did not/could not supply updated information. When we eventually did board two days late there was again insufficient information regarding arrival date and time. MSC eventually let us know on the day that we would disembark at lunch time. This lack of communication resulted in our having delayed our flight unnecessarily as well as extra cost including an overnight stay in a hotel. The boat itself was great and the good as good as expected however this was ruined by very poor service from a waiter at breakfast. When we did get some reimbursement from MSC for the loss of two of the four days trip it worked out at about 20% of what the trip cost and nowhere near 50%! All in all very disappointing and definitely not worth recommending to anyone ever. Read Less

We and our extended family have travelled numerous occassions with the MSC and had pleasant and fun experiences, but the recent trip with MSC Musica was a disaster. We've made a few trips with the ship; Meditteranean cruise, Cruise to Maurituis, Durban to Portuguese Island, Cape Town to P.E to Durban. This was the worst trip ever, having to cram the whole journey in 2 days. We were rocking from side to side due to the speed. Our cabin toilet was filthy and bathroom had no towels. The bar fridge had a plate with left over food in it. I explicity requested vegetarian foods for a few of us, but the selection was seriously few and bad, even the desserts were terrible. (This was our first night on the ship.) The waiter at least arranged for a better selection of foods for supper on the last night at the restaurant for us. We could not dock in PE and it was race to get to Durban in 2 days. The Embarkation was long and tiring, having to wait from 8am to 12 without refreshments and standing in a long queue in an unused warehouse which was bird envested and dirty, having to walk along the ailes to land up in the extreme hot sun without shade. Disembarking was another tiring exercise. We had to leave our bags outside our cabins by 8am and wait in the overly full lounge as we had to be out of our cabins by 10am. We were a group of 10 people, hoping to have a good long weekend on the ship but we were sadly disappointed. I used to tell my family and friends that the best holiday you can take would be on a cruise, I was terribly wrong! Read Less

Chose this cruise as we are regular cruisers and wanted to take my daughters on it for the experience. Food was ample and tasteful. Beautiful ship, comfortable cabins . Clean We were disappointed about the late departure as this was our only holiday for the year as I am a Nurse and my husband Police Officer. This was the only time we could take off for vacation. My 2 daughters were soooo excited, but due to the delay the excited decreased. We did not want to be reimbursed, we were hoping MSC company would suggest to offer us a another 2 day cruise like from Cape Town to Nowhere to Cape Town maybe next year. We would have enjoyed another trip, but we not sure if we will ever be able to afford one in the future. We would definitely want to go again, but I guess another 2 years of saving will do the trick. Thank you to the Captain and the drivers of the cruise for taking us smoothly and safely to Durban. Also thank you to the crew, waiters and the cleaning of our cabin. Read Less

Chosen cruise was a family cruise and loved it. Restaurants was well filled and had good service levels in the restaurants. Buffet was excellent although there needs to be some sort of system in place when collecting ones food at the restaurants. It can become chaos at times. The other one big thing was when boarding the experience was not nice as we did not know where to go stand when we arrived, nobody was outside directing people. we just had to figure it out. Cabin was clean, bathroom was a good sized. Entertainment was excellent and well worth the watch. Traveled with kids, kids enjoyed the kids section on the ship. We are planning to do this cruise again as this was our second trip thus far. The ship was beautiful and only negative I had was that there was no kids water section which the previous ship had. On deck entertainment was a little unexciting as i would have liked more interaction. overall the trip was enjoyable. Can't wait for our next sail date. Read Less

i booked this date because I we did not want to go on the Jazz cruise. As it was our first time on a cruise ship, we were quite amazed with everything. The interior of the ship, wow! Our cabin was a real surprise. It was so beautiful and clean. The service was also A1. The dining room were so beautiful. We ate one night in the dining room, but prefer the buffet on the 13th floor. As we were on holiday, the time schedule did'nt work with usl But the food in the dining room as well at the buffet were fantastic. The entertainment - shows, arts and craft, bingo were very good. I wish we had more shows. The entertainment team could get a big YES from everybody. They were suburb with everyting they did to keep us entertained. I must draw the attention to Marco - he was a feast. My granddaughter went with us and we saw her the morning that she left the cabin and then at night when she come back from the disco. They kept her entertained the whole day. We saw her once or twice running up the stairs for the scavenging hunt. And to our enjoyment we had 2 days extra. This was a bonus. So my experience: I know there was some people that were complaining about the extra days - but not me. I enjoyed every moment. Wish it could last longer. I don't think anyone could say they did not enjoy the cruise. If they do, they don't know how to enjoy life. The whole cruise was FAB-U-LOUS!!! Thank you again. Read Less

We returned on Saturday 26 January 2019 from our fantastic trip on the MSC Musica. The extra 2 days were a great bonus and we actually had the most fun on those 2 days as the weather was exceptional. Thanks again for doing the booking for us and keeping us informed along the way. I left this feedback with MSC. I rated most of the activities a "10" not just as a default rating but an honest rating of our fantastic experience on the MSC Musica. From the moment we stepped aboard, we were super impressed with the facilities and service. The theatre shows were fantastic and Darren is a great host, although his jokes are like "dad" jokes (lol). The meals were great and the evening "fine dining" as a highlight and Vitali (from the Ukraine) was an excellent waitor. There are enough activities to occupy yourself with but we thouroughly enjoyed doing NOTHING for 7 days as we realised that we had not been on a family vacation for more than 8 years. The bonus was the extra 2 days at sea due to high wind conditions in Cape Town. Here the MSC staff excelled! Updates were given on a regular basis and I loved the daily newsletter with activities for the next day. I commend the staff for serving us for an extra 2 days and hats off to the Captain for putting our safety above keeping to a time schedule. We arrived this morning (26 Jan 2019) and I have already been telling all my friends and family about our cruise and that they must make plans to book a cruise as well. It is really value for money, compared to booking a holiday at a holiday resort. It was also very interesting to talk to total strangers and the best of all was meeting people we had not seen in many years. My wife met 4 colleagues that she had not seen in over 25 years. The best was - none of them were travelling together. What are the chances of that? I met a man who was my manager in 1990 - almost 30 years ago!!!! How about that! And we recognised each other. Another chance meeting, while waiting to disembark - chatted to a total stranger and discovered that she worked with my sister-in-law many years ago - I immediately called her and the two of them were chatting away about the good old days. We loved that we did not have to spend any money on the cruise, except for the last night as our drinks booklets had run out! While walking down the corridors or anywhere on the ship, it felt like you were in a 5 star hotel. The design and finishes of the interior is top notch. Loved the pool - and the tidal effect created by the forward movement of the ship! This will go down as the best holiday that I have gone on in my 53 years on this planet! I am missing the ship already! We might do the Mauritius or Portugese Island cruise next time. To all the staff on board the MSC Musica, THANK YOU for making it a memorable holidy for my family and I. Read Less

We love cruising and have done many cruises on various ships but this experience was the worst by far.We sailed up to Walvis on the 20th January. The embarkation procedure was a complete disaster- we had two small children with us and we stood in line for 4 and a half hours. We noticed many elderly people and even a lady in a wheelchair having to go through this horrendous experience. The ship was forced to stay out at sea due to high winds which we know is beyond the control of MSC but we heard sooooooo many complaints from fellow customers about the way in which the delay was managed. We eventually got off this morning and thankfully that didn't take as long as we had expected. Even though we were told to leave our cabins at 06h00 and only left the ship at about 08h00 and that was only due to the fact that we elected to drag our own cases off the ship. The ship was at full capacity and that was clearly evident- the buffets were completely overcrowded and the queues endless- people were eating at the tables by the swimming pool as there were no tables available inside. We went down to lunch one day in the restaurant and there too the queue was out the door. The food was the worst that we have ever had on any prior cruise.Numerous guests were commenting on the standard of the food. Photographs excessively priced and in fact when we looked yesterday there must have been thousands of unsold photographs. The excursions in walvis were expensive and guests that went to the flamingos didn't get to see flamingo's. The entertainment was good- could have had more happening around the pool though. The staff in the baby club and kids club were phenomenal- our kids loved playing there. Also they stay open late so gives the adults time to eat dinner in peace and go to a show. Our cabin was fine and was always nicely cleaned- no complaints there. The ship was at capacity and still the one pool was drained and worked on- why not do this when the ship is emptier? The Jacuzzi's were always busy and often had children sitting in them. The loungers were always difficult to get as there are not enough in the shaded areas. We often landed up sitting at one of the tables. WE often found that there was no toilet paper in the toilets and the floors very wet. Read Less

We where on the cruise that got stuck at sea ! Not their fault, but the lack of communication was. It was a guessing game, not cool. And then the repeat of the food got old very quickly. There is way to many people on the ship and as for the Q's they never stop literary from start to Finnish. The dining was average at best no variety, as for the wine most where not in available, lunch was repeated too many times. Breakfast was fine. The cabin was fine but not the size we where told it would be we where told 28.5m and it was 15m. There was no control of smokers on board and the smell of efuent was every where. The submission of the insurance claim how ever went without a problem well done. The cruise on a whole was not bad but for that price I think they can and should do better. Well that's my opinion. Each person could have a full plate of whatever was their taste. The restaurants had excellent, well trained waiters. Their skill and professionalism did not go unnoticed. Was also extremely impressed with the way the staff handled the delayed disembarking time due to bad weather. Chose the cruise to relax and have fun.The Dream Team were disappointing. None of the usual fun activities I am accustomed to. The cruise director was boring and the shows were not up to the usual standard that I have experienced on previous cruises. He announced on the first night to not miss "Novelty Quest", well it was conspicuous by it's absence. I was not the only one who found the female singer's voice at the theater to be unpleasant to the ears. The South African staff were not very obliging. When I asked for help when registering my credit card at the machine, she was downright rude to me. Francisco, our table waiter was very efficient and friendly, but felt his stress. The wines we requested from the first night on board were not available, ( found out two days later we could purchase the wine we wanted at one of the bars), the wine steward ( female South African) was hopeless. By the time the wine arrived we had almost finished eating. I can only say that that I have had much better experiences with MSC in the past, but have put it down to the fact that it is a bigger ship with less staff. Still deciding whether I want to take my chances on the Orchestra next year. Read Less

The facilities were great, especially the kids club. We were most disappointed with the food in the restaurants. It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either. The last day in particular was quite bad as the ship started to run out of food. Overall a good experience but not quite what we expected. We were made to cover the cost of beverages for the extra two nights which we were obviously not prepared for. We chose this cruise departing on 20th January as it was advertised in the UK and looked interesting visiting different places in South Africa, along with Namibia and Mozambique. Embarking was the worst we have ever experienced, no guidance or help. Cabin 11171 was good and roomy, no issues there! Namibia ended up being the only port of call on the 12 day trip that was there on the correct day and for the advertised time, all the rest of the stops were either shortened dramatically or cancelled, with at times not too much explanation. We ended up floating of Cape Town for 2 days, due to wind, sea swell so could not dock, to us British looked like a lovely calm summers days! Apparently the harbour is not well designed in taking a cruise boat in if slight wind/swell. Overall very disappointed with the experience, due to many things, lack of information, repeat menus, repeat entertainment, buffet reminded me of a school canteen so avoided it, having to change cruise card every 4th day and lots of immigration. Being warned of the $50 visa each for Mozambique would have been good, we did know we had to get one btw. This cruise was never designed for the UK market in my belief but for South Africans who wanted a 4 day eating, drinking jolly. Read Less

We as family decide to cruise from Cape Town to Walvisbay for the first time everything was good breakfast was okay Lunch in Restaurant was also okay but accept for one thing the Pizza at night as well as day was to hard dry and a waist of time because to little topping. Burgers also very dry. Enjoyed the entertainment and activities because all could benefit from it old and young. Services excellence especially Information Desk you do not wait long and they cater for all. Cape Town was a bit of a nerve wrecking situation because some of the people especially me and the first time travelers were nerves and plans was suppose to be canceled for pickup at port. Photo prices really ridicules as it should be less because it should be part of the memories and all cruise package that you will treasure at home and also for marketing purposes. Read Less

This was our first cruise in our lives. In a way we were very impressed but looking deeper under the surface MSC has lots of space to improve their service delivery. Very well aware of fact that this point is most likely not MSC Musica's responsibility but need to be said that waiting for approx 3-4 hours in a queue to go on board without any seating nor refreshments or clean toilet facilities is not a good start. Starting with the cleanliness of the cabin on arrival, we are very well aware of the fact that staff has only very limited time available to clean the cabin. However, on arrival I would expect it spotless. Though our cabin steward Arnaud Napetoke was very helpful and professional communicating with the guests: 10 out of 10! But next time take some extra minutes to clean also drawers in cabin and bathroom. Further going to the self-help restaurants: the range of food was certainly enough. However, staff issues in my opinion again like chef and waitress are very busy on their cellphones and laughing a lot (which is great obviously if they are happy) but failed to attend to guests. Cleanliness of tables leaves to be desired for. Very often at beverage stations were no cups or not stocked with coffee/tea,sugar. However, the staff in restaurants where one was served was extremely knowledgeable! The cleanliness of tables on the pool deck area leaves also lots of space for improvement. The few bar attenders were good but one needed wait for a while to be served. It would be great before purchasing any beverage voucher to know exact prices on board to make choice of vouchers easier. Missed general signs for toilets which could be easily implemented. This would make a search a lot shorter speicifically if passengers are getting "green" and looking for the closest bathroom). We acnnot comment on shore excursions as we didn't do any. The entertainment team was 15 out of 10, they did a great job and so also the evening professional entertainers. Fantastic shows! Read Less

Went on MSC musica cruise from 20.01.2019 till 24.01.2019 but due to gale force south easterly winds in Cape Town we remained on ship for 2more days only docking on the 26th of January. Wow from the moment we got on the ship everyone was friendly. The hospitality from the staff was excellent. The cabins were emaculate, clean and tidy, everything was beautiful and on it's place, with friendly cleaning staff who cleans the cabins daily. The atmosphere on the ship was tantalising. Despite the delays the staff members were so accommodating and hospitable. As a nurse I found this extremely therapeutic and relaxing to be waited on hand and foot. The food, oh the food was amazing. A wide variety of cuisines with balanced flavours was one of the highlights of my cruise. There was so much entertainment you could keep yourself busy for hours. The onboard photograher took amazing pictures that I will cherish for years to come.MSC musica I applaud you. Thank you for making this cruise one of my best yet. Read Less

We were 10 family members that went on the MSC Musica cruise from 20th January 2019 to 24 January 2019. We thoroughly enjoyed it and what an experience. The staff were very professional and helpful, especially the two waiters, Zamah Sery and Santos Robles of L Oleandro Restaurant gave us excellent service. The entertainment (the shows in the theater) to my opinion was not that great. The dancing was excellent, but the singing was terrible. If it was not for the dancers and the acrobats it would have been a huge failure. The other entertainment in the lounges were excellent. The games and entertainment on the deck was well organised. What really impressed me is that they could quickly organise events for the extra two nights we had to spend on the ship. Well done to all the staff. This needs to be done! We will definitely do it again. Read Less
