This was our first cruise and we were naturally a little apprehensive about how we would cope with such a long time on board. Our fears were allayed considerably by the friendliness, courtesy and efficiency of the staff. The ship was immaculate at all times and the hard work put in by the crew was unobtrusive. The accommodation was most acceptable. The food interesting and tasty as well as being abundant and pleasing to the eye. The quality of the entertainment was outstanding and well orchestrated by the very professional cruise director and his team. It was difficult to make choices about what to participate in from the diverse selection provided. Although embarkation and disembarkation were a little irritating for the long waiting sessions, it is appreciated that a large number of passengers have to be handled and the processes were fairly well handled and organisation evident. All in all, this was a very positive experience and one that we would like to repeat. Read Less

The Grand Voyage concept is a brilliant idea - spending three weeks at sea travelling to numerous countries / destinations unpacking once! Travelling from Cape Town to Venice on the MSC Opera was a lifetime experience. The entertainment on board was absolutely outstanding - catering for a more mature (in years!) audience with basically no children on board. We were basically entertained from 10h00 - 23h00 daily with a variety of activities resulting in 21 days just flying by. A variety of shore excursions served everyone's needs and tastes, very well planned to optimize time, getting so many guests on and off the ship. The MSC has served many people well over many years. This was The Opera's last journey before it's major extension and revamp - thus the cabins were not in optimal condition - but no major issue. Dining was great - food was awesome! - variety - with country themes - made dining a memorable experience. An excellent gym assisted in keeping the weight issue at bay - especially with all the great food. Disembarkation in Venice was a long process - mainly because most didn't want to leave what has become a way of life and home for the past three weeks. Highly recommended and a must on your 'bucket list'! Already planning the next mini - retirement on another MSC Grand Voyage!! Read Less
