This was my second MSC cruise experience, and as with the first one, I am highly satisfied with the experience. I am from the Western Cape and know Cape Town quite well, so before we embarked, we slept the night prior to the cruise in a hotel in Cape Town and went out for dinner, which is always awesome! Embarkation and disembarkation went very well, and I am really impressed with the way MSC are organized to let everything runs smoothly all the time. There are so many activities on the ship that one sometimes struggle to get to everything, because you enjoy one thing so much, and cannot just leave it unfinished to attend another thing that might be running concurrently! And I am that kind of person who wants to do them all (: The massive ship are very clean and tidy. The lounges and bars are really neat and one love to sit and relax there. The disco in the club and on the decks are amazing. The cabin is comfortable and always clean. I tested both the restaurant and buffet, and are very pleased with both in terms of food and the menu served. The entertainment offered is really world class and one gets the idea that MSC make sure that they present good shows and entertainment. The theatre, comedy, music and artists are stunning, very professional with that special way of involving the crowd in what they present, which is great. The crew staff are always friendly and ready to help with anything, which makes life on the boat very easy. All staff are giving their all in terms of service. The ports and shore excursions are great, although a bit expensive. I just need to touch on a few points which ZI think need consideration: 1. Is it necessary to take all the photos with everyone(I'm referring to the ones that looks like it is compulsory to take) The thing is, I've heard that so many people do not buy those photographs because it is really very expensive. I've asked what is going to happen to those hundreds of thousands of photographs that were to purchased by the people, and I've heard that it will be destroyed. Should people not be given an option to pose for those photos if they are going to buy it in the end. It is such a waste and destroying our planet as well? 2. The dinner seating: I had quite an uncomfortable experience where my travel buddy and I were placed for first seating. When we got to our table, there were already a family of three sitting. We did not know the family. My friend and I ordered wine to get rid of the uncomfortable situation in a way. Then the mother of the group told us that they are also uncomfortable with the arrangement, and they are Muslim, and not supposed to sit with people who drink wine. Now this situation caused us never to go to the restaurant again, because in our opinion, dinner is private, and we never had such an experience before. 3. The play area for the children seems also dangerous; on deck 14, the rails of the ship are not very high, and I think it creates a situation where children are exposed to danger, especially if their parents are not around: you know, falling down the stairs, or over the rails, etc. If I had small children, I would not be comfortable with the play area so exposed. 4. The theme parties are really good and people love it, but is gets so cold on that deck that it is really difficult to stay there for the whole evening!. On the previous cruise, discos were held every night in the club, which was so awesome, because the club is really big. I suggest the theme parties must be done in the club as well, like the last one with the pajama party. Lastly: The cruise overall was absolutely great! I am going again! Thank you sooo much!! How can I become a voyager club member! Read Less

It was just an amazing experience. I had on the MSC Musica and also thank you so much for the great kindness shown by die crew members and staff. The cocktails were amazing. The disco made the hole cruise for me. The whirlpool was just another great experience. The amount of food and the variety just made it so much better and the chefs were spectacular. The hole setup is amazing except that I had to walk through the restaurants to get to a certain point but nevertheless it was amazing. The tanning seats next to the swimming is very comfortable and I will definitely look if I can get some in hand because it is just great material. I like the fact that you are not allowed to smoke in the disco that helps a lot but I didn’t like the way people smoked in non-smoking areas and I’m not sure it waas clear to all the people Read Less

I recently went on a cruise with the MSC Musica and it was by far the best experience I have ever had in my life! The cabin we slept in was nothing short of perfect and not even to mention the food and drink on the ship! the food is of top quality and available anytime of the day! the drinks and bar tenders are exceptional and the overall experience with all the staff was great. They definitely make you as comfortable as possible on the cruise! The entertainment and shops was out of this world and I will definitely be back on board soon and definitely recommend the cruise to anyone for the experience of a lifetime. Disembarkation at the halfway stop was so easy and everyone assisted in anyway they could. If you want to have a party or just plain relax old and young there is loads for everyone to do on this cruise. Thank you MSC for this awesome experience! Read Less

It was my first en not last trip on a MSC ship. This as i said was the best memory i could give my family. We did not see our our 2 boys for the first 2 days due to all the on board entertainment and supervision that was deliverd. Staff are so great and the service was as if we had our own room servent waiter on call and all just great. Food and drinks what can i say. Entertainment for us was so great and we made new friend as the staff that kept us busy was great. This was a Bok radio cruis and lots of entertaiment was availble but we found that our next trip will just be on MSC because we think the ships entertaiment was better and we had more fun theare. If at all possible i would like to metoin a Roger from Al Salavador from our dinning room every evening that made us feel like we own the ship. I would like to say that because of Roger i will save money daily to do a trip on a MSC ship again and meet staff like him, He made us feel welcome and was just GREAT overall. I hope that someday we would meet again. Great review need to have the negative part as well so this is it...Why did i have to get of the ship..... Thanks and hope to see you soon. Read Less

destination good but wouldn't recommend this as ship needs to be replaced by o old. The whole experience of this cruise was as if I had been in an old people's home. The entertainment was geared for this and so we're the activities. The destination was appealing but to be given a port that was a coal mining destination Port Richard and get covered in dust isn't my idea of interesting port even captain agreed and told us he had notified the company of this. Must have been a cheap port to go to. The overall staff really very good and helpful, food good, cabins not up to today standards. Entertainment needs to be updated though an older crowd they need to realise we are not one foot in the grave. Lovely table but also of the same opinion. Perference given to people who book Fred Olsen direct. Independence passages required to desembark no later than 10.00 a.m. But Fred Olsen passengers were allowed to stay on board as long as necessary before their flight departure. I hope Fred Olsen take note of these comments Read Less

This MSC Sinfonia cruise was a 60th birthday gift to my wife. From the time we embarked, we experience awesome service as from previous reviews, we were expecting to be in long queues with embarkation taking hours. This was totally the opposite - we arrived early the morning, handed in our luggage, went straight through to the embarkation process and customs with a breeze - in all, the process took aproximately forty five minutes and our party started on the Sinfonia. Our room was clean and awesome. The public areas/toilets can be cleaned more often, however this was just a small issue. The other tiny issue was that we had to queue in the buffet areas, but this is also expected as I know that there aproximately a thousand people wanting to eat at the same time. We throroughly enjoyed the cruise and are planning/booking our cruise for next year. Well done MSC - we are certainly looking forward to cruising with you on the Musica. Read Less

I booked the cruise in celebration of my hubby's 40th surprise birthday. Our group consist of 14 adults and 7 kids, we were 21 in total. Wow, what an magnificent experience , something unforgettable, we had the best time of our lives, a real blast! There are plenty activities all around the ship to keep all ages entertained, so no time of getting bored . The food, was amazing and you could never get hungry as there were food galore. The life entertainers were terrific, you could never just sit down. The clubs were always packed and the bar staff was on top of their game I must say, they were always more than happy to assist. Money well spend, will definitely recommend at any time.. Over all the best experience, entertainment I had over the years. One critique, the check in time process need urgent attention, we are waiting way to long 2-3 hours max in the queues to get on board. It's really frustrating and tiring:( Read Less

I chose this Cruise because of the particular Shows on the cruise brought to us by RSG Radio Station. Our first experience was the Shuttle Service from the Airport which was very well organised. Embarkation went pretty smoothly as we used the Quick Pass method for a small extra fee. This however meant that we missed out on the embarkation photos which we had paid for in advance. We were pleasantly surprised by the comforts on the ship. However, next time I will remember to state specifically that we require two single beds. The food was great. We tried the dining room once but decided that the buffet was much more to our liking. Most of the staff on the ship were very friendly, kind and helpful. (A special thanks to Mahendra in the Buffet area) The different locations where the Shows were held were mostly comfortable and easily accessible. We disembarked at one port only. I was very sceptical as it meant using a Life Boat and I have difficulty walking and use a walking stick. But the strong young men that helped us on and off were very professional and it became a wonderful experience. Our overall experience was great. We loved it and would certainly want to go on many more cruises with MSC Thank you MSC. Read Less

I enjoyed the 3 days on the MSC Sinfonia tremendously. From checkin to getting on the ship was a wonderful experience. Most of the staff were very friendly and had great sense of humors and always willing to help out. I loved the entertainment, food and people :-) I especially enjoyed the dinner; a lot of choices. I enjoyed the drinks voucher that I bought on the first day I arrived, I found that to be value for money. I do however believe the pool Deck bar need more staff to assist as we stood in the queue a long time to get served. I went inside to the 6 level to get service by another bar. Otherwise, I believe it is well worth the money I spent. I did hear negative feedback from other people and all the negative statements they made, I found to have a very positive experience. Therefore, those negative people are miserable in themselves. I will definitely do it again, butI will choose carefully who my travel partners will be as their negativity and all their complaining were putting a damper on my weekend. I will sail with MSC again :-) Read Less

My wife had just recovered from Cancer. 5 operations and much hardship and it was a way of celebrating the fact that she had been pronounced cancer free. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience overall despite the negative comment I have made later on in this review re children. We most certainly will be looking at going on a further cruise in the future. The kind of cruises we would be interested in would possibly involve rivers and or fjords where we can enjoy peace and tranquility. Whilst we do enjoy a party we also would simply enjoy sitting in our cabin reading and/or enjoying the vista. As we have only been on this one short cruise we obviously have minimal experience at present and hence would need to explore further cruise options to be able to make an better informed decision in the future. In the interim many thanks for your gracious hosting of us and the most positive way my wife could celebrate being cancer free. Read Less

Flock at sea 2017: We saw wonderful seabirds, all of them lifers and that is exactly why we joined this cruise. It was fantastic to share the birdwatching experience with 2000 other birders. Most of them were wonderful people. We learnt a great deal about seabirds. The talks about penguins and albatrosses were out of this world. The food was ample, fine and almost always available. The wine selection was a bit thin. The cabin was more comfortable than we hoped for. All staff were friendly. Embarkation was slow and tedious. Disembarkation was fast. There is in my opinion not really anything to complain about apart from the slow embarkation. The trip was very affordable. Should Flock at sea be on Sinfonia in four years time we won't hesitate to join. Everyone should at least once go out on the open ocean, because it is an awesome experience. Keep up the good work. Our first trip to South Africa began with a couple of days in the lovely Cape Town before boarding Silver Cloud for a 10 day cruise along the coat to Mozambique and back. We had sailed with Silversea before and rated them lacking in atmosphere and cuisine. Same now. Our package included 2 nights at Table Bay Hotel (very good) and a 4 day safari at the end (fantastic) before returning to UK via Johannesburg (worst airport I have seen) Silver Cloud looked and felt dated and tired. I understand now that it is to be withdrawn from general service next year and used as an arctic/antarctic exploration ship. . There were no children on board Dining was not impressive; as the line is Italian owned, the menus were swamped with pasta and fairly unimaginative at that. The restaurant was a good size with nice table arrangements. The Terrazza has a breakfast buffet of standard stuff and slightly better choices for lunch, but converts to an Italian restaurant in the evening, which we didn't enjoy. One unusual facility was the Pool Grill in the evening, which converts into a 'hot rock' facility, with steaks etc cooking on very hot stones on the table, something which we hadn't seen before at sea, and quite welcome. Entertainment was mainly the six 'Voices of Silversea' giving various production-type performances in the evening. I thought the performances were mediocre and they didn't do much for me, but maybe that's how I am. The 'Enrichment Lectures' however, were another matter, with a series of superb presentations from a South African called Rob Prentiss, who described graphically the formation and history of the Union of South Africa, including politics, Apartheid and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission after Mandela. Entertaining and informative. The overall itinerary was disappointing. There was little point in going to Maputo and no point at all in spending two whole days in Richards Bay. Potentially more interesting ports such as Durban and East London only had a few hours. I think we did discover the reasoning behind the plan however: passengers included a group of about 80 golfers, who disembarked and leapfrogged the ship over a series of ports, so I think this controlled the whole itinerary. In addition, many of the excursions on offer included visits to game reserves and as we were due to go on a 'proper' safari they held less attraction. In the end, we didn't go on any of the expensive formal excursions. Disembarkation was straightforward and a bus took us to the airport where we flew to Port Elizabeth. Then we took another bus to the Shamwari Game reserve, which was outstanding. Read Less

The port of Cape Town is beautiful and the staff at the airport was very nice to all of us in the group. Took a heck of a long time and standing in an endless line at the port to embark....Staff very friendly and in less than 3 minutes you are booked in and off you go to board the ship but this happens only once you reach the staff in front.... The food in the La Terrazza restaurant(pool level) was always of mediocre quality...some of the deserts you could taste was "mass-produced" and the rest of the food was of medium quality...nothing to shout out about...at least there was free coffee and warm water to drink.:-( The Il Galeone had very friendly staff but again the food was no where near good quality...one night had steak and it was so tough we didn't even eat it.... Must try not to compare to other cruise lines, but out of ten they scored a 3 in my book. Cold drinks( sodas) was extremely expensive ($4.37) so drinking warm water was the order of the day.... Visited the Gelateria ( Ice cream parlor) and had a smoothie with some liquers mixed in...also very expensive($5.64). Staff in the La Terrazza was not very friendly and did not communicate in very good english...as was some of the staff at reception...very broken english spoken and could not understand our South African accent. Shows at nighttime was Brilliant!!! I must say it really was very entertaining and different every night!! Bravo to the artists/dancers/ singers/ acrobats/magician.... The cruise director - Steve - needs a mention here...he understood the South African humor and entertained us endlessly during Battle of the Sexes and other games! Found the lifts too small to handle the capacity of the ship. Disembarkation was fast but did not enjoy the fact that we could not settle our bill the night before...had to be at the accounts dept at around 5 am to sort it out....not good.... Read Less
