The food was poor compared to previous cruises. The bar service was slow and the quality of the cocktails was inconsistent. The cabins were very comfortable and clean. The embarkation process was a circus. Having been told to get to the terminal early, we were then told to sit and wait. No refreshments were offered and the shore based personnel became fractious and rude. While the delay in the ship arriving was not MSC's fault, I believe they should have been far more forthcoming with apologies, gestures and financial compensation. People were just dumped at hotels and had to fend for themselves. The insurance cover was not explained clearly and I know there are going to be some very angry guests who ended spending way more than R1250 per person in accommodation, meals, transport and drinks. The 50% refund on the cruise and 20% discount on a future cruise just doesn't go far enough. Read Less

Due to the delay we only embarked on 26Jan 2019 sadly missing two days of fun we were looking forward to..nevertheless once on board we were in awe of the beauty & magnitude of the ship & then the fun started. We loved the various lounges & bar areas for relaxation & good music. The dining sittings in the restaurant caters for everyones needs & the staff serving guests with a smile & then having the opportunity to meet wonderful people at the table we share with. Our highlight the sushi restaurant (my favourite). Our balcony cabin for two very spacious & clean..the staff (& that includes everyone) very friendly & helpful at all times & they work long hours daily. Its also fantastic on the pool deck soaking up the sun & having fun with activities organised by the entertainment team. Its your lucky day if you win something. The shows in the theatre outstanding!!!Professionalism beyond words! The cruise overall is too much to see & do & theres too little time..definitely another cruise planned for the future.. Read Less

i have been on this cruise before and had the time of my life, needless to say this time round i had told all my friends and family join, we were about 21, adults and kids. I had elderly members in my group who had never traveled, now they get to enjoy the cruise and its luxuries with their kids and grand kids. I was to celebrate my daughters 1st and nieces 3rd birthday on board or so we planned. I know you cant control the weather so when we received text message no 5 after our cruise had a 2 day delay due to gale force winds we were still excited to make the most of our holiday. We were told to be in Cape Towns port by 8am the Saturday morning (26th January) for a swift embarkation, unfortunately i spent all of 4 hours in the line with a restless kid in arm. By the time i eventually got onto the ship the halal buffet was anorexic with almost nothing available. The water was choppy but the ship was trying to make up as much time as possible, at one point i thought we were a speed boat, my entire party suffered from vertigo, mostly on the first night. Supper was mediocre and we didn't get a Gala evening. Our waiters seemed exhausted and unwilling to assist, not normally the case in my past experiences. I was on the melody, an extinct and ancient ship for 19 days in 2011 and had the time of my life, this cruise was supposed to be top all my expectations but was an anti climax. We didnt stop in Port Elizabeth and got into Durban earlier than expected. on the brink of disembarkation i was told that i could not leave the ship because i had an outstanding balance on my account. i had to head back to reception where there was a 40 min line because of all the queries passengers had. They billed me $1.50 per person for a UNICEF donation. This should be optional and not a prerequisite payment before you leave the ship. I donate to my own organisations and how the hell do i know that MSC actually gives my money to UNICEF. based on this they removed my charges and i was allowed to leave the ship almost an hour later... If one pays for a luxury experience especially for leisure and relaxation purposes especially if you saving and looking forward to it for months. Its a complete let down when you utilized your annual leave or savings for a trip and us as consumers gets the short end of the stick.. MSC just picks up more people in Durban and can start fresh giving them an ultimate experience. Instead of them cancelling the trip in totality because it would cost the company an arm or a leg, this trip was a taxi service to Durban because you inevitably had to go there as part of your itinerary. The passengers were dragged along for the speedy and bumpy ride and all you can do is compensate us with a lousy 20% on our next cruise excluding service and port charges...HOW IS THAT WORTH IT? do you classify that as compensation for my inconvenience and disappointment? IM BEYOND GUTTED! Read Less

The 2 day delay resulted in a lot of disorganization and a feeling of being rushed, which wasn't relaxing. Embarking took 5 hours, and was very uncomfortable. Service was good by some, but really rude by others. The fruit juice served with breakfast was terrible. The coffee wasn't much better. Some meals were good, others were very poor. I didn't appreciate having to pay 15% service fee on everything, even when I fetched my own drinks from the bar. The delay in confirming our new arrival time in Durban meant that we incurred costs to change flight times. We tried to claim for the additional costs, but the claim was not accepted. I think this is very unfair. There is very little management of the Jacuzzis, and they were overcrowded and dominated by certain people for the majority of the time. The queues at reception were always long, resulting in holiday time being wasted in order to sort things out e.g. cruise card not working. Read Less

We love cruising and have done many cruises on various ships but this experience was the worst by far.We sailed up to Walvis on the 20th January. The embarkation procedure was a complete disaster- we had two small children with us and we stood in line for 4 and a half hours. We noticed many elderly people and even a lady in a wheelchair having to go through this horrendous experience. The ship was forced to stay out at sea due to high winds which we know is beyond the control of MSC but we heard sooooooo many complaints from fellow customers about the way in which the delay was managed. We eventually got off this morning and thankfully that didn't take as long as we had expected. Even though we were told to leave our cabins at 06h00 and only left the ship at about 08h00 and that was only due to the fact that we elected to drag our own cases off the ship. The ship was at full capacity and that was clearly evident- the buffets were completely overcrowded and the queues endless- people were eating at the tables by the swimming pool as there were no tables available inside. We went down to lunch one day in the restaurant and there too the queue was out the door. The food was the worst that we have ever had on any prior cruise.Numerous guests were commenting on the standard of the food. Photographs excessively priced and in fact when we looked yesterday there must have been thousands of unsold photographs. The excursions in walvis were expensive and guests that went to the flamingos didn't get to see flamingo's. The entertainment was good- could have had more happening around the pool though. The staff in the baby club and kids club were phenomenal- our kids loved playing there. Also they stay open late so gives the adults time to eat dinner in peace and go to a show. Our cabin was fine and was always nicely cleaned- no complaints there. The ship was at capacity and still the one pool was drained and worked on- why not do this when the ship is emptier? The Jacuzzi's were always busy and often had children sitting in them. The loungers were always difficult to get as there are not enough in the shaded areas. We often landed up sitting at one of the tables. WE often found that there was no toilet paper in the toilets and the floors very wet. Read Less

This was my 3rd cruise with MSC. The Ship is well Maintained. Very neat and clean and well looked after. The entertainment crew were friendly and good. The barmen in the Cigar Lounge were very friendly and helpful. The crew at the Spa were friendly and very good. I was lucky to meet the Manager and I could congrats him with his staff. The crew at the outside bar, reception and restaurants were unfriendly. The willing to help were not there. They looked like they hate there jobs. My suitcase was damaged. The team that take in the suitcases at night don't keep people that was sleeping in mind. The also not friendly at all and throw the luggage. When I reported my damaged suitcase, there were more people with the same complain. We book for the 1st seating in restaurant, but on our cards we were booked for second seating. They just told us they cannot change that. On deck 13 there were "Call for bar service buttons". Nothing happens when pressing it. (I tried more than once) Don't know why they put it on the tables. We had an bad incident at the entertainment area and need security, but they were not in site. Maybe they must be more visible on all decks. People from other tables saw what happened and helped me. The food was great and the variety more than enough. Thanks to all the hardworking guys in the kitchen! We wait very long for the food in the evening, but is was worthwhile! The rows to embarkation were not flow for a very long time. People wait to long in rows and in the sun. Disembarkation and embarkation in Walvisbay went very smooth and quick. The Disembarkation in Cape Town also go very quick and smooth. I would like to book again for the 2020 cruise with the hope that I experience the same hospitality that I experience on the Rapsody and the Melody and not the unfriendly hospitality that we received on the Musica. Chosen cruise was a family cruise and loved it. Restaurants was well filled and had good service levels in the restaurants. Buffet was excellent although there needs to be some sort of system in place when collecting ones food at the restaurants. It can become chaos at times. The other one big thing was when boarding the experience was not nice as we did not know where to go stand when we arrived, nobody was outside directing people. we just had to figure it out. Cabin was clean, bathroom was a good sized. Entertainment was excellent and well worth the watch. Traveled with kids, kids enjoyed the kids section on the ship. We are planning to do this cruise again as this was our second trip thus far. The ship was beautiful and only negative I had was that there was no kids water section which the previous ship had. On deck entertainment was a little unexciting as i would have liked more interaction. overall the trip was enjoyable. Can't wait for our next sail date. Read Less

i booked this date because I we did not want to go on the Jazz cruise. As it was our first time on a cruise ship, we were quite amazed with everything. The interior of the ship, wow! Our cabin was a real surprise. It was so beautiful and clean. The service was also A1. The dining room were so beautiful. We ate one night in the dining room, but prefer the buffet on the 13th floor. As we were on holiday, the time schedule did'nt work with usl But the food in the dining room as well at the buffet were fantastic. The entertainment - shows, arts and craft, bingo were very good. I wish we had more shows. The entertainment team could get a big YES from everybody. They were suburb with everyting they did to keep us entertained. I must draw the attention to Marco - he was a feast. My granddaughter went with us and we saw her the morning that she left the cabin and then at night when she come back from the disco. They kept her entertained the whole day. We saw her once or twice running up the stairs for the scavenging hunt. And to our enjoyment we had 2 days extra. This was a bonus. So my experience: I know there was some people that were complaining about the extra days - but not me. I enjoyed every moment. Wish it could last longer. I don't think anyone could say they did not enjoy the cruise. If they do, they don't know how to enjoy life. The whole cruise was FAB-U-LOUS!!! Thank you again. Read Less

We took this cruise to celebrate my daughters first birthday. The cruise itself was good, but due to high winds we were not able to dock on the last day. As a result we had to spend an extra two nights at sea. With 2 small kids on board it became quite difficult to manage as we were not prepared for the extra 2 nights. The facilities were great, especially the kids club. We were most disappointed with the food in the restaurants. It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either. The last day in particular was quite bad as the ship started to run out of food. Overall a good experience but not quite what we expected. We were made to cover the cost of beverages for the extra two nights which we were obviously not prepared for. Even though it was impossible to provide for all guests there should’ve have been care taken towards families with kids. Read Less

We as family decide to cruise from Cape Town to Walvisbay for the first time everything was good breakfast was okay Lunch in Restaurant was also okay but accept for one thing the Pizza at night as well as day was to hard dry and a waist of time because to little topping. Burgers also very dry. Enjoyed the entertainment and activities because all could benefit from it old and young. Services excellence especially Information Desk you do not wait long and they cater for all. Cape Town was a bit of a nerve wrecking situation because some of the people especially me and the first time travelers were nerves and plans was suppose to be canceled for pickup at port. Photo prices really ridicules as it should be less because it should be part of the memories and all cruise package that you will treasure at home and also for marketing purposes. Read Less

We were 10 family members that went on the MSC Musica cruise from 20th January 2019 to 24 January 2019. We thoroughly enjoyed it and what an experience. The staff were very professional and helpful, especially the two waiters, Zamah Sery and Santos Robles of L Oleandro Restaurant gave us excellent service. The entertainment (the shows in the theater) to my opinion was not that great. The dancing was excellent, but the singing was terrible. If it was not for the dancers and the acrobats it would have been a huge failure. The other entertainment in the lounges were excellent. The games and entertainment on the deck was well organised. What really impressed me is that they could quickly organise events for the extra two nights we had to spend on the ship. Well done to all the staff. This needs to be done! We will definitely do it again. Read Less

I was invited by a friend to tag along. Was my first cruise. The staff/crew were extremely friendly and helpful. A wider variety of cocktails should be made available. I had a cocktail booklet and it was very limited. As far is the photographs are concerned....excellent photographers but the photographs are just not affordable. Whilst we are aware these are based on dollar exchange you need to take cognisance that the majority of the passengers were South African and particularly Capetonian. I think it was such a waste to destroy such beautiful photographs which I could not afford. Please look at making your photographs more affordable in order for more people to purchase. The shows were excellent and there was always something to do. Despite our docking was delayed by two days due to strong winds....the show continued. The food was amazing and staff always friendly and very hospitable. I would recommend the cruise anytime. Read Less

Well where to start with this one ! I have been on a number of cruises and decided to include one on my recent visit to South Africa, bad choice as this cruise was easily the worst I have ever been on. Too much went wrong to detail everything but I'll have a go. Embarkation at Cape Town was a nightmare. We had to wait 3.5 hrs to board. We had to q up in a deserted shell of a warehouse covered in birds dropping with no facilities, no water, no info from crew, a terrible start to any holiday. Food was of a very low standard, both in the 24x7 cafeteria and the restaurant evening meals. Fine dining it was not, cold soup and badly presented, small food portions, a good way to lose weight ! The service throughout the ship was really poor. Crew did not seem to care and the ones that did were vastly overworked, IE large bar areas took about 20 mins to get a drink as only 1 bar person on duty. This was the norm, it looked as though there were not enough staff on the ship to cope with the crowds of people. The ship seemed rammed with people who mostly camped out in the 24 x 7 cafeteria eating all day. As a consequence it was a nightmare trying to get a a) food and b) a table to sit at during breakfast and lunch. The South Africans on board just camped out there for the day eating. The staff were not that helpful either when you asked them to help you get a table, total chaos ! Hand sanitisers at each restaurant door were either not working or empty. There was no effort made by the crew to make sure every person entering the eating areas sanitised their hands, its a wonder we didn't have a food poisoning outbreak on board. I could go on and on but I am sure you get my drift as to the type of cruise this was. To me it was one small step up from a booze cruise. It was so bad that the Europeans on board demanded a meeting with the Senior staff. We had a meeting in one of the lounges with the Hotel Manager, Customer Relations manager, Second in command to the Captain and the Housekeeping Manager. There were about 200 to 300 hundred irate people complaining to them, BTW the Captain was a no show throughout the cruise not even a tannoy announcement from him. We complained about the service, meals, sanitisation and other items but I felt theses fell on deaf ears. One thing that was said was that the cruises are planned for the local market and they obviously felt the SA people on board were happy with what I would say was a 3 star Spanish hotel experience. They did say that for Europe they upgraded the experience and for North America upgraded even higher. This was a cruise that should have not been sold to Europeans as the standard was deliberately low to match the local market. We asked for compensation but I'm not sure if anything will happen, just make sure if you ever cruise with MSC you dont do it tin South Africa , in fact choose another cruise company entirely. Having cruised on MSC numerous times, both locally and internationally this cruise was way below the standard i have come to expect. Embarkation was a nightmare, as people queued outside the terminal with no direction from cruise staff and pushed and forced their way in terminal once the doors opened, which almost resulted in a stampede as well as a few curse words between passengers. We had also requested the first dinner seating which was confirmed on the cruse ticker=t, however on boarding we had been given a second seating, despite having booked over a year ago and being a Gold MSC voyagers member. Pool deck seems really cluttered and the design and bars on the ship are not the most appealing. On the last night of the cruise i awoke early hours in the morning in a wet bed due to the fire sprinkler leaking directly onto the bed. Cruise was mediocre at best... Read Less

I chose MSC due to my great previous experiences with them. Their staff are so friendly and very efficient. I will always esteem MSC very highly to my clients and ensure their cruise will be magical. The dining and entertainment varieties were my highlight and not to mention the luxury of the balcony cabins. You will never regret booking with MSC they offer exceptional overall service for a 3* cruise ship. It was fantastic to experience a variety of cultures and cuisines. My only concern was their lack of security cameras in important guest areas like the bag drop department. This should be re-evaluated. Amazing crew, amazing staff. MSC delivers exactly what they promise, more than just a cruise. You feel like you are a VIP guest and you can enjoy your cruise carefree with all your needs taken care of. The reception area for me was just my chill spot because I enjoyed lovely old school jazz. Thank you to all who made this possible. Travelled the Cpt to Namibia route. We also did a tour in Namibia. Sand dunes tour. Very intresting and informativè. I never went up to the dunes too steep but I was too unot to walk all that way. My husband went all the way up. He was extremely brave. The Casino is a smoking area and is opposite the theatre. When gaining access to the theatre from Deck 7 children and non-smokers are expose to those smoke fumes from the Casino side. Other that, my first cruise was awesome and definitely cruise again and also will recommend cruising to my friends and family. Dining (1st seating deck 5) was excellence and on time. Here i must mention that the friendly waiters did really good job in serving us. All the meals ordered was correct the first time. We selected this trip as it was arranged by Bokradio and this is where it was advertised regularly as well as we are listeners of this radio station every day. The number of Afrikaans singers whom committed to the trip also contributed to our decision to go on the trip. The arrangements were excellent and as myself is a double amputee we were accommodated through early on board as well as preference treatment when disembarking at the Cape Town harbour on return. As a disabled person we were accommodated in a quite large suite and I could easily move around with the wheelchair in the room as well as the shower was also comfortable. The food, service and music was excellent every day. Thank you for also having a special place on the pool deck for disabled people it was needed and really appreciated. Just one comment I would like to make on the pool deck is that people should not be allowed to put towels and stuff on all chairs for their friends it should be first come first serve.I have seen this created some unhappiness with some people. Staff are so great and the service was as if we had our own room servent waiter on call and all just great. Food and drinks what can i say. Entertainment for us was so great and we made new friend as the staff that kept us busy was great. This was a Bok radio cruis and lots of entertaiment was availble but we found that our next trip will just be on MSC because we think the ships entertaiment was better and we had more fun theare. I would like to say that because of Roger i will save money daily to do a trip on a MSC ship again and meet staff like him, He made us feel welcome and was just GREAT overall. destination good but wouldn't recommend this as ship needs to be replaced by o old. The whole experience of this cruise was as if I had been in an old people's home. The entertainment was geared for this and so we're the activities. The destination was appealing but to be given a port that was a coal mining destination Port Richard and get covered in dust isn't my idea of interesting port even captain agreed and told us he had notified the company of this. Must have been a cheap port to go to. The overall staff really very good and helpful, food good, cabins not up to today standards. Entertainment needs to be updated though an older crowd they need to realise we are not one foot in the grave. Lovely table but also of the same opinion. The new cruisers enjoyed every moment, except for the day that we went through the storm and almost everyone was sea sick. The kids had an absolutely great time at the club and also at the spray park and the swimming pools. The embarkation process could be improved though. Maybe allocate a specific time for embarkation for a specific group of cabins.the current process is very delayed and tiring. Embarkation chaos. Took more than 4 hours to get on board. When on board, after 2 checkpoints, you were lost. Nobody gave information what to do next. Had to ask random staff working at kiddies check in counter to found out that you must go to your cabin, get your cruise card. I cannot imagine how lost a first timer must be or feel. Dining a joke. We were three pax, but were allocated a table for two. They had to shift in an extra chair in a small space. Food is average and not the same as it use to be a few years ago. At the buffet, the serving dishes were not monitor by staff to keep it full. To get a seat was a nightmare. Tables were not cleared and cleaned regularly. People were not directed to a seating, so you find 2 people sitting at a table of 8 pax. People were not leaving after finishing eating and use the buffet area to chill out. Read Less
