My husband and I usually cruise Celebrity but chose this cruise for its itinerary and the reputation of excellent food and service . Unfortunately we were disappointed by both . The embarkation was a disaster . Due to high winds in Cape Town the ship was late in arriving in dock . In fact over a day late but it did not warn passengers On the day , no one answered phone calls and there was no communication at all . On the dock side , passengers were left standing in v long warm queues without explanation or apology. Not a staff member in sight for several hours .Eventually on board after 3 hours and a bottle of water later , there were still no apologies . Due to late arrival , our departure was delayed until the following day and we missed a day at Walvis Bay .. still no apology but a statement ‘ force major ‘ .. ie not their responsibility The staff on the whole were ‘ miserable ‘ They never welcomed us back on board , never wished us a good day, never offered refreshments or towels on boarding .. in fact generally we felt as though we were an irritant and an inconvenience rather than a guest . It was not a warm nor welcoming atmosphere and there was not an officer in sight . The ship was generally clean and well kept although some of the sanitizers did not work. Ok .. it is a little warn and old fashioned but that wasn’t a problem .. The main Dinning room was disappointing. The food was rarely warm and often poor quality and was thrown at you in a cafeteria way rather than with the elegance as advertised . The staff were rushed off their feet and had no time for small talk . Lunch times were a better experience. The dress code was v relaxed throughout the cruise. with many t shirts and trainers in sight . The speciality restaurants were a much better standard but visits were limited. Communication was extremely poor and there was no interactive facility to check bills, book restaurants etc .. We struggled to find information and as this was our first cruise with Oceania ended up relying on other guests who had cruised with then before to help us , The room was comfortable but the air conditioning became warm at night ! In searching for something positive , I find it’s quite difficult . !!!! The happy hour between 5 and 6 was only in Horizons or the martini bar which is a very small lounge with limited space and extremely packed . We spilled over into an area where some musicians were playing and were told to be quiet !! During this time the glasses and hence quantity also shrank ! Illogical rules and regulations which the staff hid behind dogged the enjoyment of guests and dulled socialising ... hard to explain but readily realised when on board. The ship vibrates and kept us awake at night . We were mid ship but our friends in the owners suite at the back moved furniture and other items to limit the noise . Unfortunately we missed a second port Port Elizabeth due to high winds and this was again very disappointing for many guests . Some of the organised trips were good but expensive . Others were badly organised with guides not turning up etc .. and not running to time or schedule . I could go on but it is beginning to sound more like a rant than a review . ... The disembarkation went well . Read Less

Background: We had booked a 14-day fly/cruise package directly through Fred Olsen leaving from Cape Town, visiting Port Elizabeth, Richard’s Bay, Mayotte, Madagascar and the Seychelles. Flights: Instead of the direct flight we were supposed to have, we had to go through Johannesburg, collect our luggage, go through customs, re-check our luggage, change terminals and take another flight to Cape Town. It was a nightmare and took 22 hours. For the return flight we had a 5-hour flight to Dohar, a 3 hour wait at midnight followed by a 7-hour flight to UK. What upset me most about the whole experience was that other passengers had direct flights both ways. Ports of Call: In Port Elizabeth, the debunking service failed to show. The ship was 12 hours late leaving the port. In Richard's Bay, our berth was next to a Coal Factory and everything on the ship including us was covered in a thin layer of black soot. The shore excursion arranged by the cruise was terrible. We completely missed the next port of call, Mayotte in the Comoro Islands. This is a rarely visited island and we were looking forward to visiting it. Disembarkation: In Seychelles we had to be out of our cabin by 8:00 AM. Our flight was at 6:15 PM. We were left for hours queuing in the 34 degree non air-conditioned Airport. Cabin/Food/Entertainment/Service: The cabin was nice, the food was excellent, the entertainment was very professional, the service by the crew was first rate and the port talk etc. were very informative. The Ship: is a bit dated but comfortable and small enough to give an intimate atmosphere. Summary: It is a shame that these administrative disasters spoilt an otherwise very pleasant cruise. We were expecting a relaxing leisurely cruise from CT to Durban. Due to wind the cruise was shortened by two days. In our experience not enough was done from the side of MSC to ensure the least discomfort for passengers. Firstly we were informed by SMS to be at the harbor at 8am and that embarkation would start promptly afterwards. Queuing for nearly five hours apparently due to the lengthy disembarkation of passengers on board was a nightmare. This could have been avoided had MSC taken the trouble to inform passengers beforehand that embarkation would be delayed. Staff were not always very helpful when assistance was needed with changing of flights and hotel reservations due to the late arrival in Durban. Ship phones were out of order and cellphone reception was poor. Prepaid wine packages (For 2 days instead of 4) were not refundable. Selection of wines on Wine packages was limited due to stock shortages according to staff. Shortage of cool drinks & beverages.. No information has been forthcoming from MSC regarding refund of shortened trip. All in all it was a rushed stressful experience spending more time in ques and sorting out travel arrangements instead of relaxing. In conclusion we feel that the trip should have been cancelled and similar cruises should have been scheduled at later dates. Read Less

We are pensioner couple on our FIRST cruise ever. We were so excited before trip but the reality soon set in when we were told the ship would be 2days late docking in CTown and hence cruise cut short by 2 days . Embarkation was very busy but ok and delayed due to passengers still getting off. Our cabins were very nice and clean . However we were angry when we were only told on the last day that the ship would arrive 7 hours late and we still had to disembark. We could not get any internet signal and spent hours in the cyber room without sucess to try and get new flights scheduled . The final day was spent standing and waiting in queues at reception for use of the only phone . They told us expenses in the delay in Durban would be covered . We never saw a show due to the fiasco of waiting . The evening meals were of a poor quality and quantity . The reception was understaffed and very stressed We disembarked in Durban and had to find our own way to get a hotel and later we learned that all flights to Cape town were booked up for 2 days . So we were stuck in Durban hotel. OVERALL IT WAS A GREAT DISSAPOINTMENT for us oldies especially when our claims for expenses in Durban were later declined. Such a waste !!! Read Less

The food was poor compared to previous cruises. The bar service was slow and the quality of the cocktails was inconsistent. The cabins were very comfortable and clean. The embarkation process was a circus. Having been told to get to the terminal early, we were then told to sit and wait. No refreshments were offered and the shore based personnel became fractious and rude. While the delay in the ship arriving was not MSC's fault, I believe they should have been far more forthcoming with apologies, gestures and financial compensation. People were just dumped at hotels and had to fend for themselves. The insurance cover was not explained clearly and I know there are going to be some very angry guests who ended spending way more than R1250 per person in accommodation, meals, transport and drinks. The 50% refund on the cruise and 20% discount on a future cruise just doesn't go far enough. Read Less

We love cruising and have done many cruises on various ships but this experience was the worst by far.We sailed up to Walvis on the 20th January. The embarkation procedure was a complete disaster- we had two small children with us and we stood in line for 4 and a half hours. We noticed many elderly people and even a lady in a wheelchair having to go through this horrendous experience. The ship was forced to stay out at sea due to high winds which we know is beyond the control of MSC but we heard sooooooo many complaints from fellow customers about the way in which the delay was managed. We eventually got off this morning and thankfully that didn't take as long as we had expected. Even though we were told to leave our cabins at 06h00 and only left the ship at about 08h00 and that was only due to the fact that we elected to drag our own cases off the ship. The ship was at full capacity and that was clearly evident- the buffets were completely overcrowded and the queues endless- people were eating at the tables by the swimming pool as there were no tables available inside. We went down to lunch one day in the restaurant and there too the queue was out the door. The food was the worst that we have ever had on any prior cruise.Numerous guests were commenting on the standard of the food. Photographs excessively priced and in fact when we looked yesterday there must have been thousands of unsold photographs. The excursions in walvis were expensive and guests that went to the flamingos didn't get to see flamingo's. The entertainment was good- could have had more happening around the pool though. The staff in the baby club and kids club were phenomenal- our kids loved playing there. Also they stay open late so gives the adults time to eat dinner in peace and go to a show. Our cabin was fine and was always nicely cleaned- no complaints there. The ship was at capacity and still the one pool was drained and worked on- why not do this when the ship is emptier? The Jacuzzi's were always busy and often had children sitting in them. The loungers were always difficult to get as there are not enough in the shaded areas. We often landed up sitting at one of the tables. WE often found that there was no toilet paper in the toilets and the floors very wet. Read Less

We chose this cruise for its itinerary, and that was great. But arriving late 6 times at ports caused problems on tours (never Oceania's fault). Oceania claims to have "the finest cuisine at sea"--NOT TRUE! There were many problems with the cuisine. The coffee does not taste like coffee; we tried every conceivable way to get a good cup of coffee, but it would not happen; it tasted burnt and was strong and bitter. We switched to cappuccinos or lattes and they were palatable. Pizza crust was so hard you could not cut it or chew it; many very tough cuts of meat--lamb rack twice, leg of lamb, rib-eye steak in Polo Grill--all were so tough one could not chew them. The desserts were always similar--an excellent cheese cake every night, several mouses that varied but always mouse, a tartlet of some sort. We prefer eating our dinner in the dining room, but service there was so slow we ended up most times in the Terrace Cafe. Both of these venues are very crowded with each table almost touching adjacent tables. The cabin is advertised as having down pillows; they were not down but feather. The Blue Book says we have a spacious shower--it was the smallest we have ever had on any cruise ship, and we have cruised over 400 days. This ship is old and tired; it is due for refit in 2020, and certainly needs that! The entertainment was usually excellent. Activities on board were the usual as on any other line. We took 4 Oceania Shore Excursions. Two were good, and two were not. All of their shore excursions are about 3 times the price of private ones that also have a smaller group, so usually that is what we did. Oceania is exhibiting a strong desire to make money, but not deliver on services. For instance, they repeatedly denied any possibility of having a Bridge Director for games and lessons. They wanted to sell the cabin. But on the day of the cruise, they phoned the Bridge Director from their previous cruise who was already at the airport and asked her to return. She had 13 days at sea for bridge, with 117 people involved in a day! This does not make money for them, so they would rather sell the cabin than provide a service that people enjoy. Also, we missed the port of Mombasa; however, Oceania has kept the port charges and fees that everyone paid. It was our money that paid for these port charges, so why should Oceania get to keep about $50,000? Each person on that cruise paid $1607 in taxes, fees, port charges. The staff were excellent. They were attentive, friendly and willing to overcome the problems we faced. But some things did not go away! We will be happy to cruise again on Princess, Holland America and Celebrity where the money spent reflects the value received. This was definitely not the case with Oceania!! Read Less

We chose this cruise as we had done the trip up to Mozambique from Durban twice before, and felt like a change of departure city, ship and itinerary. We felt like the ship was overcrowded, way to few seating in the buffet area and pool decks. No system to keep order and no assistance with children or babies in the buffet area. Being pushed an bumped while trying to get a meal for my baby was very frustrating & tedious. Often there was no disinfectant at the entrance to the buffet. But the food was tasty and plentiful stocked, with good friendly service from the staff. Our cabin was a good size for us and our son, also clean and neat (except it didn't have hand soap by the basin in the bathroom. Our experience with our cabin and staff was good. But the last 2 nights (which were unexpected and unplanned due to winds and not being able to go back into the harbor) our sleeper couch was not set up, the mini bar was locked and it felt like the service had just gone on hold- very disappointing. We felt like the itinerary was not nearly as fun and exciting as our previous trips. Previously there was themed deck party's or even themed days- here there was non. Only some games during the hottest time of the day- but also just to busy to even try. The dj music was overly repeated, monotonous and not from all genres/ cultures. Our son went to baby club as he is under 3. He loved it completely and I can commend Gouwe his 'teacher" for her time, love and patience with him & the other kids. We felt like the location of the baby club was rather silly, as it was out side on the top deck, by what felt like the windiest area. Collecting was a mission on the windy days as even opening the door was a great task. As our son was in baby club, he only got 3 sessions a day at an hour at a time, we were very disappointed and frustrated to learn on the one morning that the 'teacher' was scheduled to do a safety drill during our ONE hour. I'm sure they could have done it at a time that she was not on duty per the schedule or the day we were on shore. The shore day ran smoothly, we got a taxi to a near by yacht club and enjoyed our time there before returning to the ship with out hassles or delays. I managed to use the gym facilities twice and really enjoyed it. Enough equipment and good aircon. We thouroughly enjoyed Melvin from the cigar lounge and Giovvani from the bar in the buffet area. They were always friendly, made an effort with us and went the extra mile. Lastly, we are aware that it was out of the ship and crews control that we had to stay the extra 2 days and nights due to strong winds. But what we were not happy about was the lack of communicationfrom the bridge. We feel like they knew on the thursday morning already that we would only be able to go in on the saturday morning- yet they kept us on a line until Friday evening. We lived out of our bag for this time as we were unsure when we would be disembarking, hoping any minute. Had they just told us from the begining what the plan was- we could have moved all our post-cruise plans acordingly, unpacked and relaxed. We could feel the tension of both the guests and the staff because we felt like we were left in the dark. Unfortunately we will not be doing a local cruise with MSC again, and would also not likely recommend the trip to friends or family. Read Less

This was my 3rd cruise with MSC. The Ship is well Maintained. Very neat and clean and well looked after. The entertainment crew were friendly and good. The barmen in the Cigar Lounge were very friendly and helpful. The crew at the Spa were friendly and very good. I was lucky to meet the Manager and I could congrats him with his staff. The crew at the outside bar, reception and restaurants were unfriendly. The willing to help were not there. They looked like they hate there jobs. My suitcase was damaged. The team that take in the suitcases at night don't keep people that was sleeping in mind. The also not friendly at all and throw the luggage. When I reported my damaged suitcase, there were more people with the same complain. We book for the 1st seating in restaurant, but on our cards we were booked for second seating. They just told us they cannot change that. On deck 13 there were "Call for bar service buttons". Nothing happens when pressing it. (I tried more than once) Don't know why they put it on the tables. We had an bad incident at the entertainment area and need security, but they were not in site. Maybe they must be more visible on all decks. People from other tables saw what happened and helped me. The food was great and the variety more than enough. Thanks to all the hardworking guys in the kitchen! We wait very long for the food in the evening, but is was worthwhile! The rows to embarkation were not flow for a very long time. People wait to long in rows and in the sun. Disembarkation and embarkation in Walvisbay went very smooth and quick. The Disembarkation in Cape Town also go very quick and smooth. I would like to book again for the 2020 cruise with the hope that I experience the same hospitality that I experience on the Rapsody and the Melody and not the unfriendly hospitality that we received on the Musica. This was our 3rd time with msc and have never been impressed with them, but chose this cruise for the itinerary It is a very nice ship but the organisation is abismal, lack of communication, public areas not very clean, toilets often dirty and no toilet paper.Poor choice of food, small portions and overall not very good. If you are using the public toilets make sure you there is toilet paper in there! ! The cabin was small but OK, the cabin steward was excellent, nothing was too much trouble, he was very polite. He kept the cabin spotlessly clean. Embarkation was chaotic and that is putting it mildly.Queues in the reception .We area were always long and slow moving. We were very lucky to have an excellent waiter in the the restaurant but not everyone was so lucky. There is an obvious lack of training in the staff. If all staff were adequately trained it would make a big difference. Definitely will not go by Msc again. Read Less

Ship was top notch but passenger atmosphere was lacking. Cruise dedicated to older seniors and ship was more like a retirement village with the entertainment to suit this demographic. Definitely not suited to a single traveler even though I am older. Things did improve when Australians embarked in Fremantle. I did not eat at the Brittanica Restaurant because I prefer to eat when I feel like it and not be constrained by set timing. Food at the Lido was was below par and a table very difficult to find. If I waited until the show was on, it was less crowded but the food was limited and very dry. My cabin was excellent, very roomy and clean and the tea and coffee making facilities were really appreciated. All staff on the ship were courteous and helpful. The shuttle buses in the ports were also appreciated. I spent most of my time in the cabin because activities were couples orientated so I did watch a lot of television with the shows being constantly repeated. Cruise did not live up to the cost and hype. Read Less

This was my first cruise. It wasn’t well organised. On arrival nobody assisted us with anything. We were left to wonder the ship figuring things out for ourselves. Some things we only found out towards the end of the cruise. One of us fell ill on board, only to be informed they were sold out of meds. Sold out!? During the cruise dinner arrangements were really poor. Our designated table was taken and we had no seats. Nobody assisted and we weren’t permitted to use another table or restaurant. We were left to order (and pay for) room service and to use the specialty restaurant (and pay for that too). When asking reception for anything they were just plain rude and arrogant. Embarkation incolved standing in a queue for three hours watching buses of guests, presumably booked by travel agents, being given priority boarding. Yes we tried purchasing easy on board beforehand, only to be told they’re sold out. After a day, the cruise couldn’t be over quickly enough. This trip ruined cruises for us and we will never, ever do it again. Not even for free, it was that bad. Read Less

We were not happy with this cruise. We have cruised dozens of times, but this was the first and last on Cunard. They cater to a group of loyal Cunard passengers, and do nothing for anyone else. The pro's: The cabin was nice. For the most part, the entertainment was very good. The embarkation was excellent. We received excellent service from our cabin steward and the Britannia Restaurant staff. The con's: Ship is very dull looking inside. Food left a lot to be desired, low quality. There was a very limited menu in the dining room and in the buffet. The dress codes weren't being followed, and no one did anything about it. Many of the passengers were very pushy. Lecturers were boring, with uninteresting subjects. Port lecturer gave inaccurate information. Shops on board were limited and were overpriced. No real sales on board. The casino was very small, although I must admit, it was usually empty. The ship has a sliding covered pool. On the windiest day, it was left uncovered, WHY??Had it been closed, people could have enjoyed the pool area. Cunard really needs some help from Princess, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean. Upon boarding, we noticed some items that needed to be addressed, such as dripping water in bathroom, only hot water in shower, cooler/'refrigerator that didn't work, and the safe did not work. The safe and the cooler were taken care of soon, but the others were left until the last day of the cruise. Some of the ports, such as Mauritius, and Reunion were worthless. Port Elizabeth was a good port with good tours. We went to Addo Elephant Park and found it wonderful. Prior to boarding the ship, we took a Safari in Kruger National Park, which made the trip worthwhile. Without that and Addo, this trip would have been a total waste of time. We would go to So. Africa again, but not with Cunard. Read Less

We had a nice vacation planned, fly from Germany to Capetown, spend a few days there and then go on a short cruise to Durban to meet our guide there for a Safaritour. Well, the first and third part worked out well, but the cruise,,, The itinerary said embarkation starts at 12:30, so we decided to get there at around two pm in the hope of avoiding the biggest rush. When we got to the cruiseterminal, there were still people coming off the ship, so naturally embarkation hadn´t even started. There were already long lines out in the rather hot sun because the terminal is much too small to handle a "regular size" cruiseship. Some of those waiting in line didn´t make it on board before six pm. We were lucky, because we had priority embarkation through our having gained "black" status via the statustransfer-program MSC is running currently (we are Elite Plus at Celebrity Cruises). Even so we had to wait one and a half hours, before we got on board. I think Capetown Harbor and MSC are about equally to blame for this. Like I said, the Terminal is very small and there were only three or four counters( of a possible ten or twelve) open when embarkation finally began. Then ther was the rather stupid setup by MSC having the commercial photos (those you can later buy) taken right after the security check and the onboard photos taken one by one after entering the ship single file on two gangways. It would make more sense taking the necessary photos right after the security check and position the voluntary photos somewhere later. Well, when we finally had made it on board, the fun really started. At MSC the cabins are supposed to be open and you find your roomcard inside. Naturally our cabin was locked and it took another half hour until somebody came to open it for us The cabin itself was very nice, only the sofa is looking very old, but overall the cabin is nice and roomy. It even has a walkable closet. After some exploring in the cabin, we discovered that the safe was locked, so another trip to the reception and more time waiting in the cabin instead of exploring the ship. The ship was supposed to get on its way to Durban at six pm, but by then there were still people embarking and the first announcements were made that " due to the strong winds" our departure would be delayed by several hours. We spent a nice evening on board after a rather ho-hum dinner with several beer buckets (remember we´re Germans) and went to bed. Next morning we´re still in Capetown and the first lttle panic sets in with our companions if we can make it to Durban in timeto meet our guide. All morning announcements are made that we are still a little delayed due to the strong winds, although on the ship´s tv the winds are shown at 21 knots, which doesn´t seem too extraordinary- If a cruiseship can´t handle 20 knot winds, they might as well beach it somewhere or make it a hotelship in some port... By noon the reception had just reassured us, that we would still reach Durban on monday, when the announcement came that MSC couldn´t guarantee the hour or even the date of the arrival in Durban and everybody who wished to disembark could now do so. The process involved another long wait in line and in the early afternoon our shortest cruise ever thankfully ended... Read Less

We are frequent cruisers, 30 completed to date. We chose this Cape Town-Cape Town cruise because we are destination driven. What a disappointment! Because of weather issues, we did not dock at 3 ports in a 15 day cruise. Although weather is not in Oceania's control, the response and alternative planning is, which they failed to do. They COULD have added more game drives in the ports we did manage to reach but instead we just sat there, bored to tears. They also COULD have left some ports an hour or two earlier to make up for slowed sail times due to rough seas so that we could have arrived earlier at ports, but instead we just sat there. And our biggest complaint is about the "inclusive" air program. NEVER SUCKER FOR THIS!! When the airlines they book have delay issues, Oceania refuses to try to accommodate you on other flights, thus we missed one whole day of our pre-cruise tours. Their response?? Put in a claim on our travel insurance. They disavow any responsibility for the extreme disappointment of most of the passengers on this cruise. They had a free cocktail party to "compensate" us-big deal. Found Nautica disappointing as well, especially compared to Marina. We "upgraded" to Concierge, again a sucker bet. No Concierge lounge, as on Marina, small cabin, very little benefit to upgrading-don't do it. In fairness, the staff and officers are great, with the exception of the staff at the poolside cafe who are indifferent and slow. Found the food in the specialty restaurants very good, especially Toscana. Read Less

Well unfortunately our food experience was anything but great in fact it was utterly disappointing. The first evening we dined in the restaurant, the portions was very small and not really tasty. The second evening we tried the buffet (if you can call it that), even more disappointing, there was no carvery, no seafood in fact the only meat for the evening was minced meat with peas and potatoes, which tasted awful. We boarded the Friday morning at 11, luckily a lot of people told me to pack the kids swimsuits in my hand luggage and it was a great day so they could start swimming right away. When I enquired about towels I was told by the pool attendant that it was in our rooms and that the rooms will only be ready by 2 the afternoon, so my kids had to sit in the sun to get dry. The afternoon's menu was burgers, the most awful burger I have ever tasted and pizza, which was only cheese and tomato and if you were lucky every 4th or 5th one had ham and olives on. The kids entertainment area was also nothing like the pictures they have on their website, my kids kept asking me where all the games was that was on the website and I could not answer them. The Saturday evening they watched a video and some kids fell asleep during on the cold tiles, as there wasn't even a rug on the floor. The cabins was about the only thing decent on this trip, small but at least tidy and clean and the cleaning staff was always friendly. Overall this was a very disappointing 40th birthday trip for me. This was an average rated cruise. the bedding in cabin - torn, dirty nappy's left in bin in bathroom. bar and dining staff, very rude, no manners, couldnt even crack a smile. were jsut not interested in being at your service. no wow factor to food, all mass produced and most meats were tough. no real inspiration as far as food goes, the best meal of the day was breakfast on deck 11.. Not enough barmen behind bars, this made it choas standing in queys..which ended up waiting for ever to get at least one drink. And dont go for the drinks packages. it worked out way more expensive than doing it normally. ticket was for up to $4.80, if you wanted a beer @ $2.. You would be wasting the other $2.80.. One ticken meant only 1 drink, unless you plan on drinking cocktails all the time, then it is work it... We were sold a booklet @ r750.. When we checked at the desk on our account - it showed up as r800.. The ladies at reception couldnt do anything about the extra charge and even admitted that the bar crew sometimes does that.so we just had to pay... (UNACCEPTABLE) Read Less

We chose this cruise due to its unusual itinerary, the opportunity to go on a safari, and the stop in the Seychelles, a place my wife and I had long wanted to visit. Also, having sailed on Crystal and Seaborne several times, we wanted to experience Silversea. The many positives included excellent food, having less than 300 passengers, being able to eat dinner by ourselves or with others as desired and at the time of our choosing, a large cabin with a walk-in closet, a very responsive butler, and an exceptionally interesting international mix of passengers - there were relatively few from the U.S. In addition, our short safari in Kenya was spectacular and the Seychelles did not disappoint. The major problem was a ship in marked need of overhaul - - the cabin bathroom smelled, the tap water was rust red, the air conditioning could not keep up, carpet was badly stained throughout the ship, and the furniture was tired. Those conditions are unacceptable for any cruise line and particularly one in the luxury category that charges top dollar. Also, the destination speaker was very weak. Africa is a continent about which many of the passengers did not know a great deal. A knowledgeable and engaging speaker would have significantly enhanced the experience. It will be very difficult for my wife and I to ever trust Silversea again. Read Less

We paid for the suite so we were happy with the room size and the balcony. The room needed massively updating however and was dirty upon embarkation. The restaurant il Covo was almost faultless - food, service, everything went well. Sadly this is where the good feedback stops. On-board staff aggressive, rude and did not smile or greet us with a "good morning" - we were ignored like we did not exist. Security staff on the dis/embarkation point very rude, did not greet or smile (tall Italian/Romanian guy). Shows were not west-end style as described on the website - we live in London and attend west end shows - the shows on board were very amateur and had no continuity. Witnessed staff not washing their hands after using bathroom and then returning to work. Soap was sometimes empty in public bathrooms so was not even possible to wash hands. Hygiene and washing hands was not enforced or even encouraged before entering buffet/dining room. Not enough ashtrays in the smoking area outside. Ship looked very tired and had a real lack of attention to detail across the board. Room cleaniness was awful - dust, dirty bedding and lots of hair in the draw upon arrival. Plus the balcony glass wall was dirty for the duration of our cruise. Food in il Covo was good, but the food in the buffet was at best bad, at worst inedible and bacon was dripping in oil, eggs not freshly cooked or undercooked, hamburger rolls hard and inedible. In the bar glasses ran out so we were served drinks in plastic cups (hardly a 5 star cruise!!). There were also no glasses available for juices in the morning, so had to use a coffee cup. Positive people that improved our experience: in the il Covo Restaurant: Dedy our waiter always friendly and effecient, the restaurant manager and assistant manager: Cristian and Innya - always helpful and greeted us nicely. Manhatten bar - only one good bar person - Johnson (from India/Indonessia) - only person who smiled and had a nice personality. Sheilagh's Bar - Luke from SA - good and friendly service. Read Less

We chose the Oceana Nautica because of the itenery we had never been to South Africa and it was on our bucket list,The fact it was going over Christmas and New Year and because of its claim to being the best ,best, best. We love good food the Nautica deffinitely told us that we would find it on board. The Cruise was expensive but we always say you get what you pay for unfortunately the Nautica proved us wrong. Having read reviews about the entertainment onCruis Critic we felt sure they would have rectified it ,we love shows and didn't expect big Las Vagas events as on wonderful previous cruises we have had(33)to date, but having been on smaller ships k we had not been disappointed, until the Nautica. The resident singers and dancers made everything sound the same we normally never miss a show but we gave up. We thought we would try the trio in the bar area where there was a small dance area. We shouldn't have bothered. No atmosphere, people had given up, why, because the band had no personallity no expression on their faces except boredom and gave a robotic type performance. We complained about our junior suite having such an old shower with a shower curtain............When my husband dropped his soap there was no room to bend down to pick it up,we were told nothing could be done for us. We complained about the dried up food and bad service. We were told that a lot of staff were changing at the end of the cruise not sure how that was supposed to help us.One night we had to wait two hours before being served in a speciallity Restaurant. We were told to give them another chance. The cruise Director was only interested in being on the TV the entertainment factor was minimal the saving grace was the lectures on the Politics of South Africa. People that had been on Board time and time again were saying that it had changed and not for the better. When we were told we couldn't dock at one of our Ports of call,we were taken to a Port with nothing but a Mall in,the sort of place you see people getting off and getting back on the bus asap. The tours were extremely expensive and some of the tour guides were students that didn't want to use a mike. So I think you get the message that we will not be going back on the Nautica despite the Head Office saying we should give them another chance,we think £11,000.00.is a bit much for second chances. This cruise was entitled "Sumptuous Safaris" and had it not been for the pre cruise safari, which was the highlight of the trip, it would have been an absolute disaster. On embarkation we were asked for our "yellow fever cards", which we didn't have and had not been requested to have by Regent. We were told that we should contact our GP and get copies emailed to us, and if we didn't we may not be able to get off the ship at some ports. Finally they said that we would be contacted by someone once on board. This never happened, so we never knew what the fuss was all about. The ship didn't sail on schedule apparently due to bad weather so we had an extra day in Cape Town, we were left to our own devices. When we retuned to the ship there was a letter offering a tour around Cape Town, somewhat too late as it had already left 2 hours previously. Due to the delayed departure and a further delay at East London we missed three out of the seven ports we were supposed to visit, therefore three of the seven booked tours were not available to us. When we eventually got on a tour in Namibia the bus broke down, and we were stranded in the desert for 2 hours only to return to the ship having missed this tour as well. Regent did however compensate us for this disaster with some significant 'on board' spend which was appreciated. We select these cruises primarily for the itenary therefore we are very disappointed when 50% of our tours were not achieved for one reason or another. This was our fourth cruise with Regent and we have always had a good experience up until this cruise, quite frankly I became fed up from hearing other passengers exclaiming the virtues of other so called 6 star cruise operators. Unfortunately things could have been managed better in difficult circumstances, ideally this cruise should have never taken place. The wrong location for the time of year. When you learn that the same cruise in 2015 experienced problems due to bad weather and that this cruise is not being offered in 2017 or 2018 then you wonder why it was offered to unsuspecting customers in 2016. After two cruises on Seven Seas Navigator we are convinced that Regent are not so good as they think they are, and by no means offer 6 star luxury. On the positive side, the cabins, the selection of drinks, especially wine, afternoon tea, and the putting green are all very good. The pianist was OK, but we warmed to her and enjoyed her quizzes. Highlight of the cruise was a concert given by a local choir in Namibia (who were then hustled off the ship so that it could sail!). On the other hand, in our view the following leave a lot to be desired: food quality; food service especially in the overcrowded and noisy Sette Mari/La Veranda ; drinks service at the overcrowded pool bar (best just to go to the bar itself and order it from the staff there who are very helpful); wine service in restaurants, especially after 9pm when most of the wine waiters disappear; some excursions (it appears not to be Regent's policy to send a member of the crew on each excursion to help resolve any problems); entertainment which, apart from being too loud, was of very mixed quality and very much attuned to an American audience - the pits was a concert by so-called 'Opera Girls' which included only two operatic items, one of them composed as a tenor solo. We heard many complaints on-board from other guests, and we had a major complaint about arrangements for a 'free' post-cruise safari, which were notified shortly before the event and were wholly unacceptable. The Destinations staff lied to us about the situation and then wanted to charge over $500 to remedy it. Suffice to say that after we complained Regent eventually paid us substantial compensation. And one further thing: after complaining about our first cruise with them in June 2016 we were told that the on-board General Manager would be asked to ensure the quality of our (already booked) next one. We did not notice any impact of this promise, and indeed had no contact whatsoever from him for nearly two weeks on that second cruise until we complained about the post-cruise safari. Overall they need to improve their self awareness, rather then believing their own publicity, and learn more about customer service. We would not sail with them again. Read Less

We have been on Regent before and expected to spend our 30th Wedding Anniversary and retirement celebration seeing Africa in style. Couldn't have been more disappointed!! Missed ports due to weather we were never warned about, rough seas, too many sea days, mediocre food, very expensive and too many rude staff members, made this the cruise from hell! The cabins are nice, Prime 7 is good but you can't get in very often and as mentioned in other reviews, going to other restaurants can be overcrowded with slow service. After our return we tried to get some compensation from the cruise line and they offered $500 per person on our next cruise! I was hoping they would do something to make me want to cruise with them again, but no such luck! There are too many high-end luxury cruise lines that care about your business. This is not one of them, so find another cruise line to spend your hard-earned money on! Read Less
