destination good but wouldn't recommend this as ship needs to be replaced by o old. The whole experience of this cruise was as if I had been in an old people's home. The entertainment was geared for this and so we're the activities. The destination was appealing but to be given a port that was a coal mining destination Port Richard and get covered in dust isn't my idea of interesting port even captain agreed and told us he had notified the company of this. Must have been a cheap port to go to. The overall staff really very good and helpful, food good, cabins not up to today standards. Entertainment needs to be updated though an older crowd they need to realise we are not one foot in the grave. Lovely table but also of the same opinion. Perference given to people who book Fred Olsen direct. Independence passages required to desembark no later than 10.00 a.m. But Fred Olsen passengers were allowed to stay on board as long as necessary before their flight departure. I hope Fred Olsen take note of these comments Read Less

We chose the 4 night cruise because there are no longer 8 day cruises out of holiday season. We always go around March. We enjoyed every moment, If I have to be critical - there could be a couple more waiters on the top deck and in the lounges. The restaurants are great and the staff friendly and helpful. The Shows in the evening are very professional and the music in the lounges at night is good. Embarkation has improved a lot and disembarkation at the various destinations is excellent. MSC has done an amazing job with the facilities at Pomene. We loved it there. Portuguese Island remains a favourite, We have booked on the Musica next year for our 10th cruise with MSC. We have been so lucky because out of all the cruises we've been on, we were only unable to get off ONCE. I can recommend a holiday at sea without hesitation! Read Less

It was our second cruise. This time we took the whole family to share in the wonderful experience. The new cruisers enjoyed every moment, except for the day that we went through the storm and almost everyone was sea sick. The kids had an absolutely great time at the club and also at the spray park and the swimming pools. The embarkation process could be improved though. Maybe allocate a specific time for embarkation for a specific group of cabins.the current process is very delayed and tiring. By the time you get onto the ship, you have no energy to enjoy what the vessel has to offer. The self-help service for disembarkation on the other hand, is and absolute bonus. The process is quick and completely hassle free, especially if your schedules are tight. We are definitely going again.we are considering doing a longer cruise as we have now done the Cape Town to Durban twice. Time for a new adventure with MSC Cruises. Read Less

Standing in queue for 2 and a half hours at Cape Town totally and utterly ridiculous. Hot sun, weaving here/weaving there - caused headaches - small wee bit of orange juice for, I don't know if it was for welcome or standing in sun all afternoon. System for embarkation disgusting. Durban clued up putting you into colour system. Worked efficiently/quickly. Although we had cabin with partial view with lifeboats in front of you - I suppose you could call it needing a bed to sleep on was important! Toilets on boat always smelly. Some staff don't understand. Captain could have introduced himself on last evening at final show. Captain could have announced 20 minutes before/after time coming/going so people could take sea sickness tablets in case and also for passengers to take in view. Cape Town must have been beautiful, unfortunately two tugs next to us and wolla we were moving out - without Captain announcing we're on our way Was he nervous or something?. Read Less

I wanted to experience a cruise. This was the most affordable. The food excellent entertainment wow. The service marvellous. Rooms great. Just loved it. There is so much to do on the cruise and even more to eat. No dieting on this cruise. All my friends raved about their time to Mauritius and Namibia on this ship. I really enjoyed the shows. Very professional. The entertainers in the lounge areas very entertaining and know their jobs. The waiters in the dining areas fast and friendly and very helpful. Even though I didn't purchase from the shops on board. I now know for the next time how things works. A good idea to purchase onboard packages before the time. Eg drinks photos etc. The disembarkation process as just as smooth. The ship is so huge that we walked all over and used the stairs instead of the lift for exercise. Thankyou for a wonderful experience. Hope to see you soon on the musical Read Less

We had a nice vacation planned, fly from Germany to Capetown, spend a few days there and then go on a short cruise to Durban to meet our guide there for a Safaritour. Well, the first and third part worked out well, but the cruise,,, The itinerary said embarkation starts at 12:30, so we decided to get there at around two pm in the hope of avoiding the biggest rush. When we got to the cruiseterminal, there were still people coming off the ship, so naturally embarkation hadn´t even started. There were already long lines out in the rather hot sun because the terminal is much too small to handle a "regular size" cruiseship. Some of those waiting in line didn´t make it on board before six pm. We were lucky, because we had priority embarkation through our having gained "black" status via the statustransfer-program MSC is running currently (we are Elite Plus at Celebrity Cruises). Even so we had to wait one and a half hours, before we got on board. I think Capetown Harbor and MSC are about equally to blame for this. Like I said, the Terminal is very small and there were only three or four counters( of a possible ten or twelve) open when embarkation finally began. Then ther was the rather stupid setup by MSC having the commercial photos (those you can later buy) taken right after the security check and the onboard photos taken one by one after entering the ship single file on two gangways. It would make more sense taking the necessary photos right after the security check and position the voluntary photos somewhere later. Well, when we finally had made it on board, the fun really started. At MSC the cabins are supposed to be open and you find your roomcard inside. Naturally our cabin was locked and it took another half hour until somebody came to open it for us The cabin itself was very nice, only the sofa is looking very old, but overall the cabin is nice and roomy. It even has a walkable closet. After some exploring in the cabin, we discovered that the safe was locked, so another trip to the reception and more time waiting in the cabin instead of exploring the ship. The ship was supposed to get on its way to Durban at six pm, but by then there were still people embarking and the first announcements were made that " due to the strong winds" our departure would be delayed by several hours. We spent a nice evening on board after a rather ho-hum dinner with several beer buckets (remember we´re Germans) and went to bed. Next morning we´re still in Capetown and the first lttle panic sets in with our companions if we can make it to Durban in timeto meet our guide. All morning announcements are made that we are still a little delayed due to the strong winds, although on the ship´s tv the winds are shown at 21 knots, which doesn´t seem too extraordinary- If a cruiseship can´t handle 20 knot winds, they might as well beach it somewhere or make it a hotelship in some port... By noon the reception had just reassured us, that we would still reach Durban on monday, when the announcement came that MSC couldn´t guarantee the hour or even the date of the arrival in Durban and everybody who wished to disembark could now do so. The process involved another long wait in line and in the early afternoon our shortest cruise ever thankfully ended... Read Less

Even the language was no barrier, his English was clear and understandable. They entertainment for my junior kids was great. the staff there was great with kids. They staff is so friendly and always find ways to assist you. I was nervous at first but when seeing the HUGE ship it helped calm my nerves. Embarkation chaos. Took more than 4 hours to get on board. When on board, after 2 checkpoints, you were lost. Nobody gave information what to do next. Had to ask random staff working at kiddies check in counter to found out that you must go to your cabin, get your cruise card. I cannot imagine how lost a first timer must be or feel. Dining a joke. We were three pax, but were allocated a table for two. They had to shift in an extra chair in a small space. Food is average and not the same as it use to be a few years ago. At the buffet, the serving dishes were not monitor by staff to keep it full. To get a seat was a nightmare. Tables were not cleared and cleaned regularly. People were not directed to a seating, so you find 2 people sitting at a table of 8 pax. People were not leaving after finishing eating and use the buffet area to chill out. Read Less

The embarkment process was a nightmare. There was no information to passengers waiting to embark and then the priority pass people were mixed with the regular pass people - so what was the difference in priority people paying more? Rip off if you ask me. Besides the delay which was due to the weather and not the fault of MSC, I found the bar attendants and room cleaners to be abrupt (some bartenders were actually very rude) and not as friendly as my previous trip a few years ago. The quality of the cocktails (not all the bartenders knew how to mix cocktail correctly and between four ladies, we had 6 full books of 18 drinks each, which was a waste) were also very poor! The food was cheaply made and of average quality. MSC's Cape Town quality has dropped considerably since my previous trip. I must say that the reception area was quite helpful. Read Less

Me and my wife enjoyed all sorts food and friendship with other passengers on board. I was so overwhelmed by his assistance and friendliness. Definitely i am coming for my 20% discount in the 2019 season. I want to book for, From Durban to Cape town, this time together with my kids. When we had problems with our flight and hotel booking because we arrived a day after our booking. MSC management assisted us with Courtesy of Phone calls and internet so that we adjust our bookings. I chose this cruise as my wife and i have never been on a cruise before. It all started going wrong when we arrived for embarkation where we had to wait inline for 3 plus hours. There is no shelter from the sun and for those that cannot stand long no chairs or seating. We get to the boarding gate and there we stand waiting to board in a room that has no air-con and it was hot. I am sure that MSC cruises having been doing this for a long time now would have had an action plan in place or something. Having to wait 30 hours before leaving port was a disaster, no blame to MSC. The cruise itself was nice i enjoyed the atmosphere on board, pity my wife was seasick. The cabins are nice except for the shower which was a little bit on the small side. The entertainment was exellent and the service from everybody was really good. Disembarkation was well thought out and very well executed. Yes i would go on another cruise but my wife will not. We stood in a cue from 12h30 to 6hoo in sun and wind - not pleasurable. Disembarkation was better in Durban, Ship was clean and staff was friendly. The entertainment provided was pleasant and well organised and executed and the shows were of high standard and a pleasure to attend. i would however just suggest that inside the theatre a bit stricter supervision as alot of people stood in our line of sight and would not move. The cabin was well maintained daily. We dined at the il Covo restaurant and were pleasantly surprised at the friendly welcome we received. The food was very good and the staff efficient. The cruise was lovely, once we boarded. The only issue was that we waited for 6 and half hours to board the ship. People were tired and refused to stand in line. There was a stampede and many of us were almost trampled. The security refused to take action and help with the lines until a few of the women started literally screaming at him. Eventually the security intervened and tried to sort out the chaos. The main entrance doors had be closed because people were trying to push open the doors. Horrific experience. People were pushing and swearing. MSC really needs to get more people organising clear lines outside , it will help with the confusion. Once on the boat, it was an incredible experience. Our cruise was delayed due to weather conditions and we left later that expected. This however, did not dampen anyone's spirits at all! The dining experience was incredible. Much of it was owed to our waiter who was friendly, helpful and always so pleasant. Unfortunately we missed the welcome party as we were at the safety drill (something that took forever to start). MSC definitiely needs to look at putting more staff on duty at the Reception desk, we waiting 35 to 45 minutes before receiving any service. We got a bit seasick because of the weather but will definitely come again! Read Less

Entertainment was brilliant, Dancing and Magic shows were the best as well as the live musicians. Buffet food was honestly not that great except for the pizza (burgers was the absolute worst, seems to have been old), but the food in the restaurants was excellent. The staff was the most impressive to me personally. They were extremely helpful positive and professional even though the people were not always easy to work with the staff handled them very professionally. The embarkation was extremely slow really got people annoyed and irritated. I understand that this could not be handled better by MSC as circumstances prevented it. The disembarkation is very quick and painless though, All and all a good experience even though I feel it was a bit expensive but I can appreciate the value that we received from the cruise. I would defenitly do it again if I am financially able. I would definitely recommend a MSC cruise even though there were a few hiccups, MSC's staff made the trip a success. Read Less

We had a pleasant and enlightening cruise on the Spirit from Cape Town to the Seychelles, with stops in southern and east Africa. We did experience some oddities and annoyances, most of them preventable by Silversea. But overall this was a fun experience. Even the internet worked well. We found the ship well-maintained, and our suite in good condition, with traditional decor. The ship is being lengthened and is undergoing major change in drydock right now. Visiting places like Mombasa and Zanzibar was a major goal for us, and the itinerary delivered. The ports offered a fascinating look at the history, culture and beauty of Africa--just what we expected. Ship excursions were okay. We also booked several private excursions and had an excellent time. Free shuttle buses were provided in many ports. Unfortunately, they didn't always go where they should have. In one port they went to a suburban shopping mall. We had to hire a taxi to show us the center city, which was very interesting. But at another port, the shuttle went to the main center city hotel, exactly as it should have. Also unfortunately, the shore excursion desk sometimes didn't provide accurate or useful information. But you could usually count on fine food. We rated the food from good to excellent, sometimes superb. Four restaurants were available for dinner without extra charge. Three required advance reservations, which hampered your flexibility. Two of the four were odd: at one you cooked your meat on a hot stone, at the other you were served a tasting menu, with food coming in tiny cups. After trying each place, we never went back. The ship should rekindle the Lido Buffet concept, serving less formal fare throughout the day in one restaurant. Dinner in the main restaurant and the Italian restaurant was frequently wonderful. After mentioning my love of steak to the waiter one night, he told me to order filet mignon, which wasn't on the menu. He brought two of them, perfectly prepared. The lunch buffets were very good, as was room service. The breakfast buffet was adequate but didn't stand out. The dress code differed from one night to the next, which was confusing. Nor was it enforced. While several formal nights are okay, it shouldn't be necessary on most nights to wear a sport coat to a restaurant in Africa. Restaurant service was sometimes slow, but overall much of the ship staff was great. Our butler and room steward did an excellent job. The captain and the chef were delightful to talk to when we took a bridge and a galley tour. The reception desk was a pain. Its personnel should be replaced. They were rude at times. They said they could not cash a travelers check, until I showed them their cruise booklet which said they could. They refused to exchange a $20 bill for smaller bills. Whoever was in charge of the ship television system should also be replaced. Timely programming was in short supply. Worse yet, the controls on our TV were so bad we had trouble turning it on and off and moving between channels. We asked for help, but got none. Despite the various Silversea shortcomings, we had an enjoyable cruise. I've noticed strong criticism of the ship in other internet reviews. I can be pretty critical myself, but I must say some of those reviews simply don't reflect reality. We'll always remember this cruise fondly. We got what we wanted: quality experiences aboard ship and on land. Read Less

Please avoid using this Radio Station ever - this cruise has made us vow never to return to MSC again, sadly indeed. Only one (1) of the 4 nights was enjoyed in the restaurant. that night the food and service was superb-what we expect from MSC. The other nights are best forgotten. The breakfast offering followed the very same pattern- lovely for one morning, awful for thhe rest. We enjoyed the entertainment in the Pubs and Lounges but not always n the SINFONIA lounge where the last night(Thursday) was loud and raucous-unbecoming of a ship of this class!! This MSC Sinfonia cruise was a 60th birthday gift to my wife. From the time we embarked, we experience awesome service as from previous reviews, we were expecting to be in long queues with embarkation taking hours. This was totally the opposite - we arrived early the morning, handed in our luggage, went straight through to the embarkation process and customs with a breeze - in all, the process took aproximately forty five minutes and our party started on the Sinfonia. Our room was clean and awesome. The public areas/toilets can be cleaned more often, however this was just a small issue. The other tiny issue was that we had to queue in the buffet areas, but this is also expected as I know that there aproximately a thousand people wanting to eat at the same time. We throroughly enjoyed the cruise and are planning/booking our cruise for next year. Well done MSC - we are certainly looking forward to cruising with you on the Musica. Read Less

I also think that we need more waitresses per tables. Some staff members are not up to date with what's currently happening on the Ship. Need to inform all the staff about all the activities that are happening. More training is needed in this regard. The entertainment on deck 12 was well planned for it was really wonderful. This was first part of back to back. Capetown to Mumbai. Seemed like good ports. On second leg no outside entertainment. All we had was stable of singers on board. Did have local dancers at one port. A cheap way to stick it to passengers. Main and veranda dining rooms very limited selection. The main dining room had a hamburger every night that had texture of baby food. Salad selection just about same each night mesculan. Not much, not good. All dressings lacked flavor. For an Italian owned ship pasta was pasty and bread sticks on table were soggy half the time. The gelato they served was the worst ever had including all over Italy. Seemed to be water vs. cream. Fish burnt, soup tasteless, portions bigger on our flight home then in dining room. Waiters ability to help in choices non existent due to their lack of English skills. First cruise of 30 days that I lost weight on. Plenty of alcohol. In the cabins no mid sized towels. Only bath and hand. Overall color scheme dark and old. Low ceilings in public rooms. They are going into dry dock about a year late. Limited deck chairs with shade at pool. They increased pool dining area at expense of shade for chairs. No cushions on chairs. Had trouble getting a diet 7up or sprite. Not a US ship so guess not important to them. Balcony chairs have no cushions only straps. They were not comfortable. Entertainment with their singers at times recorded music, might as well have had a CD to listen to. Using their laundry service clothes returned all wet. This is not the way to spend your time or money. There are plenty of good cruise lines that you can travel on. Crystal, Regent, Seabourn and probably many others that provide a value for the money spent. I have had over 50 cruises since 1972 this rates as the worst. NEVER AGAIN Read Less
