Camel ride during our shore excursion to the Giza pyramids. It was organized and paid by Viking to avoid haggling and scams. We just had to tip the camel owner. A great experience!

Exotic Journey on a Beautiful Ship
"From friendly staff to comfortable staterooms, beautiful common areas, and truly fine dining, the cruise provided a relaxed and up-close view of the Nile and its communities. We chose this cruise because seeing Egypt was on my husband's "bucket list" and because close friends who have traveled with Viking before invited us...."Read More

An Amazing Adventure in Egypt

On March 6,2024 we arrived in Cairo and were met immediately by a Viking guide who quickly moved us through immigration and out to a waiting van. The airport was very hectic and it would have been most difficult to negotiate it without the help of Gerkis, our Viking guide. After a harrowing drive through the chaotic streets of Cairo, we arrived at the Fairmont Nile City Hotel. It was definitely ...

Egyptian history in a nutshell

The Viking Osiris is a great Nile River ship, intimate, new, and designed for this service. Take advantage of all optional trips, especially the hot air balloon at dawn over the Valley of the Kings and the trip to Abu Simbel. The days are long, with little down time, but you cover a lot of history. The boat is relatively informal, no need to dress for dinner, etc., as you may be just coming ...

We were pleased with the visits and activities, ship’s airy feeling and staff . Activities were well organized and tour directors very knowledgeable . It’s a very well designed ship . Food taste was so so . Be warned that Egyptian food is very large in quantity, we were given to choose 1/2 or whole of the main dish. We feel very comfortable in the public places. Our biggest complaint -There ...

This is a journal of our November 1-16, 2023, “Pyramids & Pharaohs” land/cruise package with Jordan extension on the Viking Osiris. We booked this trip in 2021 with the thought that the COVID-19 pandemic would be over by two years later. It turned out that we were the first Viking sailing that would not require passengers to provide proof of COVID vaccination (although we had received the fall ...

A once in a lifetime trip

To visit Egypt was a dream of mine for a long time but waited until I retired and there was relative peace in the country. From our time in Cairo to the actual cruise down the Nile I was totally enthralled with the itinerary that Viking provided. The guides were Egyptologist and thus knew all the hieroglyphics and gods that the pharaohs worshiped and thus built their burial ...

We chose this trip so we could complete our visit to 7 Continents and Africa was the last one we needed. The Osiris is relatively new and only carries 80 passengers. The onboard experience was typical Viking. A great staff who always looked as if they wanted to be there with outstanding service. As for the included tours, I will admit we sure had a busy itinerary. The group was divided into 3 ...

Egypt and the Nile have always been on the top of our bucket list, this cruise was perfect in all respects! Hotels were outstanding as were the meals and excursions. The Balloon Ride over the Valley of the Kings and the Excursion to Abu Simbel were our highlights. The Program Director, Rasha Mady, was absolutely brilliant. Her knowledge of Egyptian history and culture was very impressive, and ...

Beautiful ship, a few kinks to iron out

The itinerary was packed, always something new and exciting to see. The ship was beautifully laid out, felt spacious and welcoming, food was delicious and service was incredible. The spirits package produced a lot of confusion though. After we arrived onboard we were told that anyone who booked their spirits package after a specific date could no longer be included on the package. It was up to us ...

We have traveled with Viking twice before, and we've loved those experiences. We wanted to go to Egypt for the first time, but we wanted to feel pampered while doing it. We took the Jordan extension because I have been dreaming to go to Petra since that Indiana Jones movie. Believe it or not, the pyramids were only the amuse bouche, the aperitif, we saw things that were just incredible, ...

I chose this cruise because I figured Viking would be a safe option to see Egypt. There were many great things about the cruise - The sights were wonderful. All free excursions were worthwhile. Paid excursions not so wonderful. Had a light show one - definitely not worth it. Friends said bazaar option was not worth it either - too crowded and pushy vendors.... Viking used various methods of ...
